But at the same time I feel like we’re taking advantage of BG and SOR going to EotM a bit too much.
Your not taking advantage of SOR because SOR doesn’t care. We play for fights and bags not PPT. We don’t want to WvW anymore because BG and JQ play for PPT and just blob, sit In T3 towers with Arrow carts and then blob from one tower to the next tower thats the only time you will see them. And when they don’t run in the blob the fights are fun but short lived because then they blob back up and hit you with overwhelming numbers.
Servers that are losing always say this. It makes them feel better about themselves.
Servers that wipe to a smaller and more organized force always say this. It makes them feel better about themselves.
LOL. That doesn’t even make sense as a comeback.
EoTM will likely be deserted in a few weeks and what’ll WvW have? The same-old-same-old. That’s the real problem.
You think that 27 server don’t have enough players fill couple EotM maps?
My prediction, it’ll generally have one map that’s not full (two to three weeks after the PvE players leave).
Unless some sort of karma/WXP train becomes popular there for whatever reason — that’s somewhat unlikely, but always possible when new maps are released.
Edit: I just noticed you were EU — I’m talking NA… I really have no idea how the game is played in EU.

- Legendaries are Ascended, pseudo legendaries are exotic.
- Legendaries have OOC stat switching.
Legendaries are no longer just about the skin.
People run these champ trains because it’s the most rewarding thing there is currently. Running in a loop, over and over and over again, killing the same 4-5 champs for hours on end.
Think about it…THIS is the most rewarding in game at the moment. Kind of depressing, no?
Why do it if it’s no fun for you? Seems to me you are punishing yourself just to “maximize” gold per hour ratio. I understand if anything else in the game also isn’t fun for you in particular, but I certainly also don’t find the “train” fun and avoid it myself. Plenty to do in this game that is rewarding-perhaps you can tone down the min/maxer in you regarding gold per hour gains.
Players that love to maximize gold in this way are often paying the price for doing so. I bet 100% of them aren’t really enjoying it or doing it for fun, but more as a money-making chore (money which isn’t real, and has no true purpose in being acquired-online prestige is overrated.)
Also, some players may be actually having fun doing these things. People are different. Some people actually had fun doing CoF 1 runs back then, even if it never was my money-making cup of tea.
For many people, the game is not champ training but rather we champ train so that we can play the game — this has been especially true since the advent of the Ascended grind. It’s like having a job within the game.
I am primarily a WvW player, I used to level WvW toons in WvW. Now I champ train because I desperately need the middle tier mats for Ascended gear for my other toons. Is it fun? Overall, no.
RNG in this game pushes you towards making gold and buying on the TP because you can see consistent progress making gold. On the other hand poor droprates makes farming almost any item in this game becomes an exercise in frustration.
IMO this is a serious issue with the game.
People can appreciate a hard coding issue. People don’t appreciate being mislead.
If they had been honest in the first place and put the words “approximate queue position,” this whole thing would be a much smaller issue. It’s not as if we wouldn’t have noticed this.

No idea why people get hung up on the personal story so much:
Race change comes with wipe of PS progress. You start the PS over after your change.
Problem solved.
So you personally don’t like the champ train so you don’t want anyone else to use it either?
They can always make a harvesting tool that gives 20% chance to pop out one of these recipes.
Well if you paint the map your color then then you get one champ at each location then it over, as you will then own them all and there will be nothing there to kill.
Oops… didn’t think of that… pretty embarrassing!
I’m curious. To the regular sPvP players — do you guys usually get the daily every day? If so, how much time does it take you?
As I understand it, dailies are more or less supposed come automatically if you play that playstyle. For example the 3 WvW dailies (part of the PvE dailies) come pretty effortlessly if you’re a WvW player — and without needing hours upon hours of play.
If sPvP players generally aren’t getting their dailies in a reasonable amount of time, perhaps they should feel cheated by Anet.
(I’m not an AP hunter… I just find the AP hunter threads really fascinating because their playstyle is so different from mine.)
Now casual players will have to lifelessly farm for gem store items even more at this exchange rate. likely hood of that happening is none, because their casuals.
That’s the point. They’ll have to spend real money.
In GW1, you were more or less expected to play in a party with other players (or heros). In GW2, it seems the ability to play solo (open world) has been emphasized.
Thus, having balanced party of mobs like in GW1 probably makes the game too hard for solo open world PvE players.
How viable is champ farming in EoTM? Let’s say you’ve painted the map your color so there’s no resistance.
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
The living story added hoards of overpowered enemies that are no chance you can take down by yourself if you are a lvl 45 out and exploring.
I can see how being low level can be more difficult, but OP says he’s level 80 with full exotics.
Anet is terrible at balancing in general. They need to pay some top level players to help them out.
It doesn’t help that they decided to make things really complicated with the whole trait system. We see a lot of skill balance decisions made because of the existence of certain traits. I wouldn’t be surprised if traits + skills has probably made GW2 as hard to balance as GW1!
The whole thing’s a huge mess.
You make it seem that most events are hard. Please name some. And which spider queen are you talking about (there’s a whole bunch)?
Did you see how fast they responded to the rank 30 requirement for the Gift of Battle? It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any response to this issue at all.
If they had displayed: “Approximate queue position: 23,” upon release of this update, that’d probably prevented all these threads.
Instead they tried to pass off the number as your actual precise queue position hoping no one would notice. Well, people noticed.
They’re dragging it out to give the illusion that more updates are being made than actually are.
WvW people complain for a year about how getting a legendary is IMPOSSIBLE to do with only WvW and having to do lots of PvE to get it, and we get nothing to help us. PvE people complain for 1 week about having actually do a TINY bit of ACTUAL WvW (not just running around waiting for completion asking people to take stuff for them), and it gets temporarily removed to “re-evaluate”.
If PvE’ers can get great shinies without having to really do WvW, can WvW people FINALLY get some real shinies that they can get only doing WvW? I mean, give a rest on the “new” masteries. Give us some WvW shinies (note: those “new” skins they gave us earlier this year weren’t even new…weren’t great…not really worth it for level 80 WvW players). Maybe if anet actually listened to their WvW people, instead of constantly pandering to the PvE masses, they’d get more money from us
(heck, Im sure that quaggan finisher got them quite a bit!)
Maybe if WvWers didn’t circle around every possibility of PvEers being forced into world v world like sharks around a pile of chum, they might be more willing to do it. As it is, you guys look at PvEers as a cheap source of bags, and grief the hell out of them for the giggles. Why would they want to be forced into it, simply so they can be tormented?
Just saying, as someone who doesn’t wear full zerker gear, or do speed run stuff, I’ve been kicked from fractal and PvE dungeon groups plenty of times with people calling me a noob because I didn’t know the short cuts for speed runs, or went in as a condi mesmer instead of buying zerker gear. It goes both ways. The only difference is when WvW people “grief” (mostly just kill or camp a JP in a PvP area) the forums become ablaze with how horrible we WvW people are
Oh, I totally see your point. I see TONS of people in the dungeon forums saying “I can’t wait to kick some WvWer for not having zerker gear from my dungeon party. Gonna be so much fun! And then, and then, I’m going to call him a noob! BURN!” Meanwhile, I read a post on the forums about a WvWer that knocked a pveer off the last part for obisidian sanctum, jumped down, and started eating zaftaffy simply so they could vomit on the corpse. There’s a bit of a difference here, isn’t there?
It’s because PvEers consistently and constantly whine about the WvW requirements whenever they are actually required to set foot in WvW (before badges were given out in achieve chests and after this rank 30 change, EB JP during the LS, EoTM).
That whining is the direct cause of the negative reaction in the WvW community.
On the other hand, you never hear WvW players whining about PvE requirements for the Legendaries — they only even mention it as counters to PvE whining about WvW.
(btw, vomiting on corpses sounds awesome — I gotta try it!)
Perhaps if the OP or others in the thread listed a few examples of what they consider non-soloable (or very hard) events/skillpoints, we can give some suggestions.
I think Kasmeer and Marjory are cute together and their flirting is fun, and it’s cool for Anet to be inclusive like this. I think most people who can’t stomach this are just intolerant bigots, if one of them was a guy even people who dislike how the relationship was written or don’t care would just shrug and move on.
Being inclusive has nothing to do with why they’re doing this. This relationship is designed for the juvenile male audience.
If they were focussing a male-male relationship, then you can say they’re being inclusive.
If you’re level 80 and have trouble with regular events and skillpoints, then unfortunately this seems like an L2P issue. What’s your profession?
Nerfing zerker too hard after having introduced ascended gear is a recipe for disaster. People are not going to want to regrind another set of ascended gear.
In fact, Anet may have trapped themselves a bit because players are now essentially forced to play only one set of gear — any attempt at diversifying is going to be met with resistance from those who don’t want to grind out more ascended gear.
All it does is make Anet look stupid for putting up information that’s clearly being gamed.
my riposte was interrupted with the stun :P
Oh!!! I hadn’t thought of that!
I thought since the backstab was unblockable, riposte would block then next (killer) attack. But it actually makes sense, the backstab stun interrupts your riposte channel.
I wonder if you used Melandru runes whether you could just ignore her regular attack’s bleeds. Maybe melandru runes plus -40% condition duration food? Perhaps you can do it faster than with these than Scholar runes because you’d be able to facetank her?
nice job!
If I recall correctly, of her “regular” attacks, one does far more damage than her others and you can live with absorbing those attacks and dodging just that one (I think it’s “sword slash,” or something like that — the combat log will tell you).
That’ll significantly speed up your time, lessening possibility of a bad chain of backstabs.
As for her stealth: when she stealths, I don’t think you need to move around that much. Just wait for her: if she uses death blossom, you’ll see her appear a fraction of a second before you take any hits and can dodge it all. For backstab, there’s nothing you can do but stunbreak/instant block then dodge away from her.
Disclaimer: I did this on a guardian and used 5 stunbreaks/aegis/blocks — it’s probably much much easier
Edit: Can you use something like Riposte after she goes into steath but right before she reappears — timed so that you get the block if she backstabs? (You’d have to check whether the time between her stun and her backstab is long enough that riposte expires.) If this is usable, then you have a defense against the backstab that’s really low recharge!

This new selection screen is great. I like being able to see the queues in each of the maps. Nicely done. I’d say this is the second best deliverable for WvW since go-live (the first being the elimination of culling).
Second best… What do you consider its competition? There’s the bloodlust area…
Terrible post. I’m sure that hundreds of suggestions were made. If they listened to 50 and didn’t listen to 250…did they listen? What if the 250 were terrible suggestions (as many undoubtedly were).
Yes, many things players complained about and asked for did get changed. How many? I wasn’t keeping count.
If even Vayne can’t give any major examples of suggestions that were followed, that probably means there were none. So I guess that settles it.
I don’t know how many complaints I have seen on these very forums about how the only thing to run is zerker and it needs to change and then they give control builds a place to shine on skyhammer and eotm and everyone freaks out. I think it’s utterly brilliant. Placement and positioning are king for this map and I think it’s a wonderful change from just pressing buttons.
Make up your mind fickle player base. Do you just mindlessly want to spam buttons?
I am beginning to think the player base at large just wants to whine about anything.
No one has ever said zerker is the only thing to run in sPvP or WvW.
Although a rather lame theory, considering red teams generally are those in last place of their respective tiers, possible benefit of the doubt perhaps?
Colour is no longer place-dependant. It hasn’t been for like half a year now.
It pretty much still is. The new match algorithm tweaks rankings a bit and those new rankings determine your matchups. However, if there are big gaps in rankings between servers, it makes it more likely for your server to stay at the same rank and thus the same color.
The probability of seeing servers having the same color week after week is very very small — but that’s exactly what we’re seeing. Colors are definitely not totally random.
Following the reasoning in the first post, Taimi will likely not be killed at this time. The reason is that the character has only just been introduced, and there has hardly been any time for the audience (i.e. us) to grow attached to the character.
They do exactly that in the personal story. Meet someone in one chapter and two chapters later he/she’s dead.
We recently had Fractured. This mean there will be no (positive) fractal changes for one year.
So Anet says they’re trying to listen to the views of the players more (see CDI).
To EoTM beta testers. Did Anet listen to your input? What were some suggestions that were/were not implemented?
EoTM was to have more GvG esque skirmishes that was undeniable.
You can’t even get your whole guild into the same EoTM map, how are you supposed to GvG.
In any case, the purpose of EoTM — as stated by Devon Carver himself — is to alleviate the enormous WvW queues when the game launches in “other regions” (meaning China). NA/EU barely has queues anymore in large part because of constant neglect of the WvW game mode.
I would like to see links on where Anet said they wanted this for a specific reason. People say “Anet wanted EotM for X or Y reason” and I don’t remember them saying any of that

Grotesque.6479:
“Q11: What do you view under ‘We want the best WvW experience’? What is the goal of WvW and what would be the best WvW experience with the addition of this map?”DevonCarver
“11) The goal of this map is to provide a place for the thousands of people who queue daily to be able to experience the WvW experience rather than being left out. There will be massive battles, epic sieges, stirring defenses, and crushing defeats on this map. We want as many people as possible to be playing WvW and as we expand into other territories we want to make sure they don’t experience the massive queues that we saw at launch in NA/EU.”Rephrasing Devon – Map made for overstacked Tier 1 servers.
I read his reply as saying EoTM exists to make sure the China release goes smoothly without awful queues. It would appear that NA/EU WvW isn’t even on Anet’s radar (in other words, the business as usual).
Don’t forget to kill the champ troll in AC.
Eh. Why not? Or Kholer, for that matter. They’re both easy. Hell, I’ll even forgive the exploit where you make them fight each other. Why? Because it’s an amusing excuse to break open a bag of popcorn while you play.
Most no-skipping groups (that I’ve seen) skip it. LOL
Don’t forget to kill the champ troll in AC.
OP logic: Being beaten to a bloody pulp in a dark alley is not that bad because being murdered in said alley is worse.
If you karma train in there you will be farmed….. as you progress further from your spawn the run back becomes obnoxious… so your train will thin out and then a guild group will farm you.
I am hoping people come there for karma trains.
In a true karma train, you cap and your opponent, in an unspoken agreement, decaps behind you (or vice versa). Both of you win.
Sounds like it’s working exactly as before, except now you can see numbers.
Please provide a link to a source that is current which states color assignment is random.
I can’t vouch for it being purely random… but a quick look at matchups will clearly show that colors are not directly tied to relative rank anymore. In some tiers Blue is the top ranked server, in others it’s Green.
Definitely not purely random. The randomized ranking algorithm creates a modified ranking from the “true” ranking using a bit of randomness. That new ranking determines matchups as well as the colors. However, this small bit of randomness often isn’t enough to push some servers out of their “true” rank (because of big rank gaps between it and its neighbors) and that’s why some servers get the same color week after week.
When they raise the level cap, they will upgrade Legendaries to the new cap — this is something that players would truly quit over and Anet can’t risk it.
However, don’t assume that just because you have a Legendary, your days of grinding are over. Anet can (and likely will) implement infusion slot vertical grind: currently, each infusion slots can hold +5 stats. Next: +7, then +10, and so on.
They’re already doing exactly this with Agony resistance in the infusion slots.
This way they keep the grind up, force those who haven’t gone to Ascended to grind to them, and also force Legendary users to keep grinding as well!
As I understand it, dungeon recipes can be dropped from any of the bosses in that dungeon. However, it seems that Shukov’s Launch Codes have never ever dropped as it has never shown up on the TP.
Yes. Ever since the last patch.
Looking at the new Edge of the Mists that just came out, it’s clear that Anet loves skyhammer’s mechanics. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re developing skyhammer 2 as we speak.
The trading post, in all honesty.
Nice try, guy with thousands up mats up for sale!
He’s right. Drop rates are really bad in this game so if you go out farming for a particular mat or tier of mats, you’ll be really disappointed and frustrated. The game is designed so that the least frustrating way to get most items is to farm gold and to use that gold to buy whatever you want off the TP.
How to farm gold? Dungeon running is very profitable. The Frostgorge champ train is as well.
Full disclosure: I currently have around 40 scraps of silk for sale on the TP along with perhaps 50 pieces of various gear.
