  • Don’t pug in a group with more than 1 member from the same guild.
  • Enter the instance first so that if you’re kicked the instance is wiped for everyone.

IDEA: auto teamups of the two trailing teams
When leading team score > (2nd + 3rd) / modifier then 2nd and 3rd become automatically allied and/or gain bonuses for attacking the leading team.

I like this idea. Too often the 3rd place team drops off and has no effect on the game other than to stop the 2nd place team be competitive to the 1st place team.

This is an intriguing concept. The original idea behind WvW was that this would happen of its own accord, but I haven’t seen that in practice. I think it could be much more of a part of the game if there were a way to do this. Would it make more sense to provide increased score from this or to increase the individual rewards? I would lean slightly towards the latter. I also wonder if it would work to be really heavy handed about it and actually put the two losing servers on the same team. Of course, that presents numerous problems including score tracking at that juncture. But I would think we can find some sort of system that encourages servers to work together to defeat a bigger server.

So Anet think teaming up should happen a lot MORE than it does at the moment.

The scoring system we have right now makes going for the win less important than getting PPT. Thus, it’s pretty much always better for one of the weak servers to gang up with the strong server on the other weak server. Bad game design.

I think he got a good idea of what we want – this is not as much for him, than for us, that he proposed to work that way…

and in the ideas thread, he’s just keeping things lively – showing us that he’s on and reading.

Gonna take some time before he takes his marks and really get things going.

I do expect him to eventually make a summary of the CDIs and devs answers to our concerns – but if you took time to read through it all – as I did – you know it’s quite lenghty and is not gonna be done in one day… Plus, he does not only have WvW forum to keep track of…

Give him a chance to show what he’s here for, how he can help us, what kind of job he’ll do here… he’s only been here for 9 days (make it 7, for week-ends), which is quite a short amount of time, given all he has to catch-up with WvW-wise and the fact that he still has to cover the duties he had before being named here…

I’m never going to throw a rock at someone because someone else has been bad… might be that previous communications were bad / limited / one-sided, but please, do judge Josh on what he does, not what others did…

This is now Anet’s pattern.

  • Bring someone new in, have him promise to listen.
  • Deluded people in the forums welcome their savior. “Just give him some time to get up to speed.”
  • Nothing happens. The very serious major issues are never addressed. A few unwanted features are implemented.
  • The new savior disappears from the forums forever and someone new is brought in.
  • Rinse and repeat.

Our default was to trust Anet, but they squandered our trust. Now they have to act to regain it.

What part of random don’t you understand? Random means being red 7 times is entirely possible. Random also means that it won’t stay that way forever.

It’s not random. The colors are calculated the way I described in my post. That allows red 7 times in a row because the rankings are based on server points with a bit of variation.

By the way, if they were really random (1/3 chance for each color), then being red 7 times in a row has .04% chance of happening.

Over Flow is an issue. AN knows it, they are looking into solutions.

Overflow has been an issue since Tequatl. They needed to either

  • Fix overflow before releasing content where overflow is expected to happen, or
  • Don’t release content where overflow will negatively affect play.

Instead, we get the usual “we’re looking into fixing it.”

Why are we falling for the same trick again? Why are we rewriting the same posts full of lists of what we want/don’t want?

I say it’s time they give us a list. We get to choose one thing from that list and it will be implemented by Valentine’s day. Nothing major has to be on the list — it can be all small QoL improvements. But I’d like to see some action this time before we put our trust in yet another Anet dev promising to listen.

The way it works now:

  1. matchmaking algorithm orders servers based on ranking + a bit or randomness.
  2. Every group of 3 servers are matched up with each other.
  3. Within each matchup, colors are assigned using the rankings from step 1, where top server in each matchup is green, middle is blue, and bottom is red.

Easy fix:

At step 3, randomly assign the colors.

However: We see threads like the OP’s every single week. It’s obvious by now that the problem will never be resolved because Anet doesn’t care.

There should be gambits a la Queen’s Gauntlet where bringing in fewer than 5 gives you extra rewards.

Since Anet’s not going to ever truly improve the dungeons, this change (and adding other gambits) would be the best we can hope for — plus, Anet doesn’t have to put much work in to get this done so it fits their MO.

Same. The 10k achievement chest was the ‘carrot on a stick’ for me and since I’ve gotten that I’ve lost most of my motivation to continue.

I had zero plans to participate in this patch until I noticed they annoyingly made the meta reward another instance node, so now I’m torn since I’m guessing this is a ‘one time only’ thing. Meh. I think they did that on purpose to get more people to play bad content. :P

This is me. I’m currently farming the LS for achievement points so I can get through chests faster, so I can get the laurels that come from chests, so I can get ascended armor/weapons on my guard/theif/mesmer.

The storyline is horrid and I’ve spent it wondering what happened to the team responsible for gw1.

Both of you are a big part of the problem. Anet only looks at metrics, then interprets them incorrectly. If you do the meta, for whatever reason, Anet counts you as a satisfied customer and is encouraged to do more of the same content.

You either sacrifice the AP boost/home instance node this time — so that next time you get decent content — or you get the same content over and over again.

The wiki only tells me that “high level” destroyers have a chance of dropping them.
What is considered “high level?” I farmed the ones around the Mega Destroyer’s area for a while (Level 66-67) and didn’t get any.

Tips, tricks?

You’re playing the game wrong. For practically every item, farming is a bad idea because drop rates are abysmal. You’re supposed to farm gold instead and use the gold to buy what you want on the TP. In other words, get a “job” such as “Frostgorge champ farmer.”

I understand where you’re coming from. Heck, the ‘shower of responses’ on the sPvP forums is probably from me.

WvW is an incredibly complex game-type that caters to individuals with a wide array of interests, whether that’s coordinated large-scale guild groups, havoc groups, small-man roaming, roaming alone, zerg surfing, and whatever else floats your respective boats. I’ve been spending a considerable amount of time reading through threads in this forum – the good, the bad, and the ultra ugly. Getting your finger on the pulse of WvW can be difficult when there’s multiple perspectives on every issue. This is on me to sort through, and I want to make sure I do right by you guys.

In the meantime, please continue to provide feedback. This is essential. In case you’re wondering what I want for Valentine’s Day: I like lists, break-downs, and bullet points.

Nice sincere-sounding post. But we’ve read posts like this before from other devs.
Here’s how it goes:

  • “Give us lists of issues you want discussed.” Then:
  • “Nice lists, we’ll discuss them a bit in the forum.” Then:
  • “I’ll bring the ideas discussed to the WvW team.” Then:
  • <crickets>
  • <crickets>
  • <crickets>
  • “Great news, we’ve renamed Guard Leech!”
  • Forum rages and devs don’t return for 4 months.
  • Rinse and repeat with another dev, starting with a nice post promising player concerns will be heard.

We’re feeling stonewalled. We need to see something. Proof of Life, if you will.

(To be honest, I’d say there’s a good chance absolutely nothing’s going to change with WvW until the end of March where the “big reveal” <cue drumrolls> is that Account-bound WXP will arrive in early April to counter the new MMO coming out that month — pretty sad.)

And I will continue to use the term “vocal minority” whether you like it or not, because I am able to apply common sense and realize that if the majority of players agreed with them (not just the majority of the forums but everyone playing the game) then the data collected would indicate this.

Not necessarily correct. You are assuming Anet interprets their metrics correctly. That’s a very strong assumption.

It would be nice if they put the destruction on such a large scale in the hands of the players. In other words, if the players fail to stop Scarlet, the results is something like L.A. getting destroyed.

Meaning I could visit another server and it would look different? Interesting, not sure what kind of a nightmare that would be for the design in the future.

On a simpler level, it could be game-wide. That’s how it was with the Ellen/Evon event.

Or they could rig it like the tower of nightmares destruction where everything is predetermined, but the players have an illusion that they are affecting the world.

Shouts have small range is one of the things that push people to all be in melee range in the first place.

A ton of people just do the LS content just for the achievements. Then Anet looks at the metrics and interprets them as people loving the content. And so we get more of it.

What about this:

  • Weapon slot one is labeled slot “A”, weapon slot two is labeled slot “B.” This is for one-handed weapons.
  • For two-handed weapons, slot “A” is the first sigil slot and slot “B” is the second sigil slot.

Put 9 second cooldowns for each slot. So “A” can’t proc twice within 9 seconds and “B” can’t proc twice within 9 seconds, but “A” and “B” act independently.

There likely would be some programming issues in implementing this as you have two-handed and one-handed weapons treated differently.

on the plus side we are seeing more tweaks in dungeons as of late than we have in quite a few months, so I suspect something’s going on over there. They may have made a new team or just assigned a few tasks as a side project to an existing team. either way it seem that dungeons are being looked at. Cof P1 had a wall added and players are reporting changes to Arah as well that i haven’t had a chance to see them yet.

Agreed, the new changes are promising. Sure they missed tons of stuff that probably should have been done first. Arah p2 is in far better shape than it used to be. So at least there is some attention going on. Hopefully this is only the beginning of this trend.

You guys are so starved for anything positive that you think these are a sign of more dungeon attention. It’s like a starving man having delusions of a massive feast before he drops dead.

Starved? No, more like cautious optimism at best. That’s why I said it could just be a side project, no more than a sticky note on some guy’s monitor. “Place wall in COF 1”

Still not sure why the optimism. We’ve had stealth dungeon changes in pretty much every patch (mostly invisible wall and JP “fixes”). I don’t really see anything out of the ordinary for this patch — just the usual two-minute bandaid fixes.

No. They stealth a lot of changes in every patch (harpy feathers, Arah dungeon JPs, for example in this latest patch).

I feel a 10-15mins cooldown would have been met with much less anger.

I guess the way it was worded in the patch notes also annoyed a lot of people. It’s understandable that these are being used to make hard bosses a lot easier to a point that the designers hadn’t anticipated, but the notes only addressed performance issues rather then the obvious fact that these were being kindof exploited (spamming to the point that teq could be done while half asleep). This was patched so further bosses could be designed without having to take into affect the extra dmg these did which is understandable seeing as 2 new world bosses also were released at the exact same time.

Well the two are related, but they don’t need to point that they nerfed it cause of the DPS.

Since players wanted more DPS, they kept spamming the fire ele, which caused intense graphical lag and possibly increased server resources. And at that point they said enough is enough.

I’m beginning to wonder whether this heavy requirement for DPS was built-in because devs expect everyone to have Ascended gear (especially weapons) at some point — meanwhile, embers are a substitute for that.

In this case, two words: Gear Treadmill.

Anet has no dungeon team, and clearly no devs that care about dungeons at all. Their numerous jp/invisible wall fixes are just half-hearted band-aid fixes that — hilariously — rarely work.

The funny thing is that if they had taken all the time spent on these worthless band-aid fixes and had put it into properly fixing the issues, illegit skipping would already be a thing of the past.

  • unfortunately, the creatures were not specifically designed to the constraints we have on pets in general. They are way more costly than your average ranger pet. In fact, they are exactly the same as the versions you fight in the open world which is what makes them so powerful.

So the solution would be to rework them so they are more along the lines of pets, not put a cooldown on them that renders them completely worthless.

You say you don’t want to completely destroy them but you have. The ember is powerful, but glass, it gets destroyed very easily. This is just a typical example of arenanet taking the easy way out of a problem and overshooting the mark. And you say you’ve had this in mind for months……….. well you had time to implement a proper solution then.

An equally lazy solution would have been to have a cap on the number of embers per may — much like siege in WvW. But that solution would have been much better as it would only affect a few regions for a few minutes each day (Tequatl, new bosses) and the vast majority of players would experience the same gameplay as before.

I pugged with that Heitred yesterday. I soloed arah p2 legit until alphard, then i posted on lfg. He was the first one to join. He is very skilled in Arah, he even has a guild focused in running arah daily, [ARAH] is the name.

The only problem i saw was that he runs sword+shield on warrior, and he also uses all the lupicus skips on his runs.

I ran with him a number of times back in the day with Lupi Stomped My Pug guild. He was pretty decent. I’m not sure when he decided griefing people was fun. But he definitely doesn’t do it as some white knight thing, because he’s exploits his own runs yet will kill legit runs. He and a buddy also kicked 3 guys at the end of a p4 and sold the instance. I personally ran with the guys just after it happened and they said his name before I even mentioned it.

Wow. Being so infamous, I’m surprised people aren’t griefing his runs.

Great. So everyone loses embers and ogre pets because of Tequatl and a couple new open world bosses. But not only that. These bosses will stand alone, by themselves, with practically no one even attempting to kill them within 2 weeks.

So basically the 30 minute nerf was just so that a few members of TTS can do a few bosses a few times a day.

from what I heard it’s quite inconsequential, maybe about 2%? if you look at the solo records most of them let that transition grub go anyway. main thing about having an npc take it is that you can freely drop a stunbreak on a class where having one is a dps loss (warrior)

This update isnt terribly exciting but its only the first of the the last four living story season one updates. based on reports from anet and fansites,I have a feeling something BIG is coming in the final installment and that the next update will be better.
