Commander tag now visible above chara..

Lord Kuru.3685

i’ve wanted a pink commander tag since day one.. just on the map though, i’d pay gems for it z_z and other colors obviously

I would like a green one and a shield looking icon one so people know that I like to actually HOLD objectives in WvW. If they gave us different looking tags for different uses it could really help things, a few examples:

Shield – lets players know you like to build up towers/keeps and defend them so others may come and help do that.

Question mark – could be a good one for PvE for players who like to “mentor” others or who don’t mind answering questions from new players etc.

I’m sure there’s many they could come up with, in fact this was all discussed last year and I’m sure they had promised it was coming “soon” in one of their replies way back then and never came. :s

Why?! Why isn’t this in the game yet?! Great ideas.

Similar suggestions were made in the commander CDI in the WvW forum. They were all ignored.

Another Non-Completable Map

in The Edge of the Mists

Lord Kuru.3685

Because you can’t retroactively edit the requirements for World Completion – it creates massive issues.

Suddenly people who previously had completion no longer do, and then what do you do when they hit it again? Add programming to make sure they don’t get another Gift?

It also pushes new players further and further away from the achievement, presenting them with a more difficult experience than the players before them.

You can expect new completion achievements with later large additions to the game, but at this stage it wouldnt make any sense for EoTM to have map completion. Even WvW shouldn’t because it isn’t part of Tyria, it’s part of the mists.

They’ve added new WPs to the game (for example, there’s one in Gendarran Fields called Aetherblade site 2, or something like that) and I believe if you don’t have map completion already, you need these WPs to get it.

GW2 is funded by gemstore. If they want funding, they need to intro stuff people want in gemstore. That stuff will always be better, improved and more interesting items than the previous ones because this will be the only thing that ensures consistent sales over time.

Do you think Anet will eventually have to sell finishers that can stomp people faster than normal finishers?

This is like the Queen’s Gauntlet gambits. It’s probably the only hope because we’re certainly not getting any major updates.

To be honest, I’d settle for even simpler things like:

  • More rewards for smaller party,
  • Foes deal more damage, etc.

Things that Anet can implement in minutes — because they just aren’t willing to put any more effort than that.

Anyway, instead of EoTM, Anet should have spent the time on a new EB map as well as a new BL map and put them into rotation with the old ones. That’d have really revitalized WvW while using the same dev resources as EoTM.

I wonder how many people complaining about this don’t appreciate the fact that they don’t pay a monthly fee to play this game ….

There’s always someone who brings up this ridiculous argument.

It’s hardly ridiculous … if there was no items that people wanted to buy in the gemstore then the game would 1) have to become some kind of subscription based model or 2) close up shop. What do you think funds this outfit? Goodwill?

The game ONLY works on the premise you only pay once BECAUSE they continue to release things in the gemstore that are desirable to fund it.
Frankly,

Not true at all. It is possible to have a business model where you pay once and get “lifetime” support — and that’s how the game was advertised: Buy-to-Play.

By selling on the idea of B2P, you get more people buying the game than would otherwise — just look at GW2’s fantastic launch numbers. This larger-than-usual load of cash is used to support the game. Of course, selling as B2P gets you sales after launch as well.

If you go back on the B2P idea, then you will lose people’s trust and you lose after-launch sales (and forget about a GW3). And that’s happening here — at least in the eyes of many customers. And here’s the important part:

It doesn’t even matter if it’s truly P2W by some technical definition, if customers have the perception that it’s P2W, then you’re in trouble.

Pre-paid yearly gym memberships (or even lifetime memberships) is run on the same idea. You pay a discounted price upfront and get all their content for the duration. You get the same benefits as a “regular” monthly-paying customer. They’re not Goodwill. Not even close.

Many businesses run on the pay once model. And many, once they have your lump-sum money, begin to nickel-and-dime you, in creative ways, for the services that you’ve already paid for. That’s what people are afraid is happening now with GW2. And IMO they’re probably right.

Edit: Now that I think about it, perhaps a better model (for customers) is one where you get to choose, either B2P or pay monthly. The B2P players give infusions of instant cash while the monthly customers keep the company honest as they can leave at any time.

Lord Kuru.3685

Yes but I’m not or ever been in favor is speed leveling. An RPG is meant to by played as an exploration/adventure game, not a spreadsheet of optimal builds, fast leveling, speed runs and even “best farms”.

Except MMO players in general have been conditioned to play only one way with Flavor of the Month builds and choosing content solely on ROI calculations to minimize time while maximizing reward because in reality they don’t want to play the whole game anymore because all the good stuff is at max level/zones right?

It’s like reading a who done it and you jump to the end as soon as the crime is discovered. It’s like the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation when Data and Geordi were playing Holmes and Watson on the holodeck. Data kept solving the adventure 30 seconds after it starts instead of going through it. The notion that there is a quantitative “best way” to play drives me nuts.

This thread isn’t about earning enough to buy linen at it’s current value, it’s about why it got there and how to fix it.

If you’re not on your first or second character, then leveling is boring. The hearts, the DEs, the vistas are all the same as at launch. And it’s not as if you need 80 levels to learn and explore your profession — the number of skills each character has access to is very small; the number of combinations of those skills is small as well.

And if you mainly play WvW, it’s an awful experience waiting for your new toon to finally get up to 80.

That’s why I champ farm all the way up.

Here’s what’s naturally the next step:

  • Next Living Story chapter introduces “cogs.”
  • Currently, items that require sprockets to craft need 250 sprockets (for “superior” items). Cogs will work the same way, there will be items that require 250 cogs to craft.
  • The drop rate of cogs will be lower than the drop rate of sprockets.
  • Anet will introduce a (Limited Time Only!!) gathering sickle that has 20% chance of popping out cogs.

Two weeks after that, we get “widgets.”

They will move one step at a time. Each step will be small, but there’s no mistaking where they’re going.

Don't Make Precursors Craftable

LOL. Crafting is not the point. People just want a guaranteed way to get one because they don’t really care for RNG. In any case, you can simply choose not to craft, but use the mystic toilet instead. How does other people crafting one hurt you?

Please, read my last three posts.

Showing off a legendary is useless — they’re sold on the TP, so having one doesn’t impress anyone. Being lucky with the mystic forge doesn’t impress anyone. All a Legendary shows is that you grinded out a ton of karma, got world completion, and have lots of gold.

And you’re wrong about them being cosmetic only. They are the only gear that allows stat switching. That’s probably a more important reason to get a Legendary nowadays — since crafting Ascended gear is a huge pain.

As for crafting — don’t worry, Anet won’t make it easy. They know how shallow their game is and so they need Legendaries to be really hard to get. Remember the halloween pail? It’ll be something like that. Perhaps 10,000 giant eyes will be part of the recipe.

Then don’t craft precursors. Let other people do it if they wish.

Legendaries aren’t even prestige items anyway since having one just means either you lucked out at the forge or you have lots of gold.

Then, if you want to craft it, craft some items, sell them on the TP and buy a precursor. That’s the current system, and I say you’re lucky the way I see it.

And for the longest time some T5 mats were, and still are, 1c over vendor with supply in the millions.

In the rush to max level and the refusal to play in middle level zones where some rewards and drops provide T4 mats (“I’m goin’ to ride this champ train all night long baby …”) those mats aren’t being found/savaged in the quantities that are in actual (as in a reasonable price) demand. I did get a lot of linen when I was in a level kitten zone a few nights ago. Pretty much by myself.

So how many port into those zones, do the event and port away without even trying to do a local DE or even a sweep? “But another boss event is waiting Behellagh, I have a schedule to keep.” Well guess what, that’s why linen is so expensive. Nobody is farming for it because nobody is playing in the zones where it drops unless they’re there for the boss chest.

Edit: Odd thing to kittenize, a range of numbers that are 5 less than what Zaxares posted after me. Ah, I get it now, silly way to write a word referring to the posterior using only numbers, as long as you squeeze out hyphens first.

The best linen farm I know (no exploit) still doesn’t make as much as champ farming so at the moment, it’s still better to champ farm and buy linen with the proceeds.

By the way, if you have a mid-level toon, leveling through the champ farm gets you a fair amount of linen as a side bonus.

Lord Kuru.3685

Listen to me carefully. A precursor is the only item that drops really rarely, and actually the only fuel that drives me to play the game. That feeling of whether will I get one or not. Everything of importance is already craftable. Legendary item is a vanity item. Leave precursors as a random drop, them at least.

Crafting so many items has become really tedious and boring. Sure, I hate it when a 10-year-old gets a precursor on first mystic forge use, and I already used MF for about a 100 times, and zilch. But, that’s the fun of it! Believe me.

Stop whining, and if you want to craft a precursor, you think it’s gonna be free? Just buy one off the Trading Post, because even if precursors would be craftable, mats could be worth ~500g.

Leave something to luck, don’t make another grind fest.

Thank you, ANet.

Then don’t craft precursors. Let other people do it if they wish.

Solution to the LFG tool problem.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685

Lord Kuru.3685

So the LFG tool can be used to destroy other people’s parties. Currently, this is affecting sellers as there is one person who is griefing Arah dungeon sales repeatedly.

Since Anet isn’t going to ever do anything, perhaps sellers should slowly — say, over the course of the next 3 weeks — shift back to gw2lfg.

So for the next three weeks:

  • Post both on gw2lfg as well as on the in-game LFG tool.
  • Tell every customer to, in the future, check gw2lfg instead of in-game LFG.
  • Give a discount to those who joined using gw2lfg (just post a “coupon code” with your gw2lfg post).
  • Post in reddit and these forums about the plan.

If a good number of sellers do this, then customers will get used to going to gw2lfg instead of using the in-game LFG. With this bit of initial momentum, word-of-mouth should reach all potential customers.

If enough sellers move, those sellers who don’t follow face getting griefed even more by this guy, pushing them to move as well.

Not a great solution, but since Anet shows no ability/desire to act, perhaps it’s one of the better options.

There’s always someone who brings up this ridiculous argument.

The game was — and still is — sold on the promise that you only pay once. The $60 (or whatever) we paid for the game was an upfront payment for not just today’s content, but also tomorrow’s content, and the day after’s content.

If that $60 only guaranteed you today’s content and nothing more in the future, you can bet many people would not have bought this game in the first place.

So we already paid for this content and if we’re not satisfied, we certainly have the right to complain. Anet’s not a charity.

Fix for current dungeon meta

Lord Kuru.3685

Yes. Anet has designed many parts of dungeons to be optional. If you want to skip, you skip. If you don’t want to skip, you don’t skip. Clearly that’s better than forcing you to play a single way.

Anet has also explicitly stated that selling dungeon runs is ok.

You want to try other dungeons, make your own LFG. Stop complaining about how other people play the game and concentrate on how you play.

I couldn’t care less how you play the game (no offense). However, if you want to freedom of choice card me then why are you against rewarding both: the lazy and the honest way – instead of just the first one? TBH- I’ve never said how the balance between skip/ speedruns and clear runs should be. That’s completely up to Anet and I wouldn’t blame them if skipping 100% except the final boss and reroll the path would reward you with just as much currency as clear runs per minute/hour/day.

My reply was to this statement:

“So Anet wnat us to skip most of the dgn’s content and want people to sell dgn runs too?”

People just can’t seem to understand that many bosses in many dungeons were intentionally designed to be optional. Your reward for doing that optional content is a champ chest, or one of those huge chests, or a waypoint, or all three in the case of Kohler.

If you want more rewards or extra rewards for doing all the bosses, just say so, but calling skipping the “lazy” way and the other the “honest” way is not going to get you good discussion.

Improving the Infusion system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685

Lord Kuru.3685

So I was thinking instead of our current system where every new infusion overwrites your old one, we should be able to add their effects. Best explained on an example:

- You have 1 piece of ascended armor and a craftable +5 Infusion on it.
- Now what I suggest is that: if you wish to increase it to +6, you could craft/buy from TP another +5 and add it to the same piece and the system would count those two like it does in Crafting Stations resulting in a +6 infusion

Two reasons we won’t see this:

  1. They sell extractors in the gemstore to do exactly what you want.
  2. Not grindy enough.

Why do people feel that there is a problem? Everything is working as intended. Deal with it.

So Anet wnat us to skip most of the dgn’s content and want people to sell dgn runs too? This just promotes scamming since if you buy a path you can’t be sure if you will get what you want or if you just will get robbed.
I prefer runnign dgn’s to make gold over anything in this game. But because of this mentality I just run CoF and AC since it’s the easiest and what most people farm. I would actually try another dgn’s if they fixed these 2 since the ime to do these or other would basicly be the “same”.

I think another even easier way to fix a lot of the problems is to make it so mobs don’t lose aggro in dungeons. That way you can’t skip groups or they just follow you to the boss or wherever you’re going. Also make the final boss invulnerable until the previous bosses have been killed(so people don’t skip bosses like Kholer in AC).

Anet has explicitly stated that Kohler was designed to be optional — just like the champ troll in the same dungeon.

Also, mobs are designed with a leash for fear that players will lead them into overly favorable locations to kill.
