A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

The only thing that JS should start with is BALANCING TP risk/reward and income.
I can think of several reason why he neer did it, and all of them are not good for players and the game economy.

warrior and mesmer are about sustained…..except shatter mesmers..
And yes its how burst profession are supposed to work in ANY game.
You bring your opponent in a weak state then you have to finish him before it recovers or can fight back or just die.
Otherwyse you are covering 2 roles rather than only the burst one.
D/D eles have very good amounts of burst too with plenty of healing, and in no way are they are free kill if they miss that burning speed/fire grab.
you don t play ele….we d lose time discussing a profession you don t know…

Lets speak of the real BURST that is S/F or S/D fresh air…if you miss the burst you are a free kill, and that is the most viable ele nowaday.
Mesmers can easily get away with failing a burst or two.
Mesmer shatter is a burst build, mesmer PU is not….its a duelist role with no burst.
Equip and build is totally different.
Actually almost all the professions can get as much burst as thieves while still having some mechanics they can rely on for survivability.

There is some sort of burst necro…with similar issues of ele and they don t even have stealth to get free burst attempts.
Taking away stealth is taking away the d/d and d/p thief’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
ther should be some middle ground…
stealth can t be a defensive and offensive tool and be coupled with mobility.
Look at what they did to ele RTL…….would be like giving 30 seconds of revealed debuff to thieves…..
That would start to make sense….keep your stealth and use as offensive OR defensive tool..

You don’t have a lot stealth and constant evades. It’s two different builds you’re talking about, you don’t get to have them both.
evades is th OTHER mechanic to build with…a luxury few professions have….
Personally I see thieves die all the time.
Even thief section is full of thieves saying only baddies die in WWW……unless you meet a Whole BIG zerg and you are surprised….not case that thieves first job is scouting….
They can disengage easily, but most classes can if they want to.
currently only 2 are really strong at this:
Warrior due to insane mobility
Thief with mobility AND stealth having it even easier.
There’s quite a few classes/builds that are very hard for a thief to take down 1v1,
read above….you may have issues Killing a profession….but if you are good with your profession you won t EVER die in any duel

We just need thief to pay for their mistakes…..if you can t lose, then any chance of Killing an opponent is OP.
It cannot ever not be spammy actually. The game is balanced around pve and pvp combined. The pve system requires auto attacks to have no cooldowns and to be relatively strong.
No pve is never taken in account when balancing…
In the remote necessity it is, a split is made….but only if a pvp balance is totally gamebreaking (and even then……).
They “try” to balance pve adjusting mobs, events and dungeons…..(they said something like this).
At Fractal levels of 30 and below, having some defense does make a difference. There’s a lot of people taking Berserker gear because it is the Meta, but end up lying on their face a lot, because they are inexperienced with it. I’d personally go with Knights if you are less experienced, and want some defense to go along with the damage output.
At higher level fractals, I don’t think you need Berserker, but it’s obviously faster. You do more damage. Monsters hit for less now, but until they fix the combat system, Berserker will still come out on top.
If you reduce group dps in dredge or cliffside you are much more likely to wipe when clearing trash. So no, defense doesnt really help because the best defense is a good offense.
cliffside is the fractal where dps is not even so important….
That is mostly when i log my ele and keep the Whole team alive alone….
low/average HP mobs with infinite spawns and lot of condition and all you have to do is Killing one and then suriving few seconds with your skills locked…
Its possibly the best fractal to bring an anchor considering the small difference in time required.
I strongly suggest you to watch the thread vayne opened about the manifesto…..

If you pug, having an anchor or a backup profession is also good at higher level fotm.
Most difficult bosses are either Insane DPS (that needs perfect teamplay and builds in order to even prevent most mechanics to even matter….) OR dps is just worthless if even one of the party is not doing his job.
I personally play with a zerk mesmer, and a celestial S/F ele as a backup….i can often recover party wipes….i obviousy log it only if i don t trust my party.
P.S. remember that is not only about the “equipment” but mostly about utilities and skills..

Well but that 8% is overal damage or compared to traveler orbs?
Example:
Ascended armor is 5% better than exotic…..but doesn t mean you will do 5% more overall damage because armor is just a fraction of all the equipment.

Since the nerf to RTL, having some condition damage is qute useful, that is why celestial is not so bad.
Also more crit damage and %.
At least you have a decent burst to attempt finishing your opponent before he can escape…
the only thing preventing your opponent to flee is earth 3…. and the 40 sec RTL that will never hit….so now you need more dps.
i m thinking of using my mesmer in WWW but since i play pve also (istances mostly, fotms in particular) i was wondering how much would the dps loss be in % from ruby orb to traveler runes.
is the difference noticeable?

The issue with many thieves is they think they deserve to do everything.
Now BURST build is not supposed to stay alive in a fight…
Like any other BURST profession SHOULD be based on hitting first, hitting hard and then if failing, pay for the failure.
The best part is that is not even the only build thief has.
You just want to being able o burst from stealth, be able to follow any damaged opponent surviving the opener, reset the fight at will and just flee if you can t win…
If this isn t god mode i wonder what it is…. (note we are speaking of WWW), and that without even mentioning the evades….
Compare the thief to an ele….and you istantly see what s wrong with thief.
Point is: there is no build that can kill reliably an halfway decent thief even if you try to build for that and even if the thief commit huge mistakes.
Proof ll those thieves trolling in front of almost ANY enemy spawn….even anet admitted it….but despite what they say, they never do anything to solve the problems they know gw2 has.
Hard counters like that will just cause thieves to immediately flee because stealth is their core mechanic for damage and survivability and they are useless without it.
If you can flee from an opponent without your “survivability mechanic”….doesn t that alone proves you have another survivability mechanic?
Anet said once, that in www you can t really kill a thief, but if you make it run away its a victory….
stealth would be good only if paired with 50% reduced mobility…
Mobility+ stealth = you can t kill a thief.
It just means you won t never pay for your mistakes…any half decent thief can do that.

this is not even an issue.
The REAL issue is how ele are locked in a range……that is the reason RTL would be fair even if thieves and warrior mobility were at 40 sec CD.
RTL is as easy to evade as churning earth at anything more than 300 range….preventing ele to chase anything that has access to stability or break stun. (infact was a decent thief/warrior counter before nerfs).
That is why rtl at 30 wouldn t still be enough.
Also as they didn t think to the reason why ele needed wasy access to stunbreaks…
The only surviving mechanism ele has comes mostly from utilities….they can t give up any…
that were the main balance offenders…
We don t need buffs we need them to reverse completely those unreasonable nerfs…
Balancing team is probably different from the team that designed the professions…
I’d like to start using mesmer in WWW but i m really spending all my gold/laurels on ele :| so i wonder if i could get a decent roaming PU build with the following stuff:
I can have:
GS and SW/X (any stat possibly using generosity sigil on GS)
zerk armor
(possibly ruby orbs so i would save 60+ gold in traveler runes and keep my PvE dps)
Zerk necklace (laurels reserved for armors -.-)
ANY ring/accessory available (i drown in commendations and pristines).
With all this should i try to WWW with mesmer or should i wait to have some gold to get proper equipment?

Byron, I think you underestimate elementalist damage. They can have much higher than a warriors, but the skill ceiling is indeed higher. Good players know this. Why play with players who don’t?

Good players can understand what happens in those youtube video you watched…..they also replied explaining how most of those vids are just showing tests not really working in game….
The vet giant test is a BURST test for example…when the giant dies ele is on full cd ……after that point he would just lose 90% dps dropping his sustained a lot.
Most Others require warrior support.
People already answered….but few people read and tried.
If you pug with an ele unless you can abuse FGS you won t deal as much as ANY zerk warrior even a GS one.
Best part is that without a good guardian you will be wiping the floor costantly also….

Just to start with somethingThere is some truth in this statement, however I want to remind you that you can not balance the lack of skill. Eles are great damage dealers already , however a lot of ele players run horrible builds for dungeons (aurashare for example) with horrible gearsets (celestial would be godly compared to it), even if you buff eles, those people wont go. Same goes for rangers, they can deal very decent dps, however 99% are longbow camping. Now of course some things can be balanced out, for example how necros bring very little use to your party, but tbh there needs to be a way to really show players how much of an anchor they really are for their groups. (inb4 a quadrillion h4t3r5 show up).
a couple suggestion…
-If you pug…celestial may be a great choice for ele. (that s why i bring one along my zerk set…you can almost solo difficult bosses…if you think your pug Group is not good enough).
-the bunker ele is highly situational, yet can be useful
-if you take ele for dps, is probably because you didn t find a 5th warriors expecially if you pug unless you are playing coe, cof and other stuff (even in AC dps ele needs someone to keep him alive despite what people say kohler will 2 shot you with basic attack).
-all balance is done for pvp, that hurt some profession and kept warriors and guardians godlike in pve since release..
-don t trust dps tests…..they are made mostly in situation not representing the real game.
Said this, every profession is viable.
Issue is, a superskilled necro, is as effective as a beginner warrior…….
This led to what we have now…. i already screened many times the LFG board full of “only heavies”….
And its also one of the reason if a really huge part of the istance community rerolled an heavy….they lost faith in anet after one year repeating the same stuff they shouldn t even be told.
If you want to promote pugging the only viable ways are class balance and less grinding (less reason to count seconds….).
One or both will solve the issue.

try this…
Equip staff…stack 1 min+ swiftness and use Glyph of elemental armony while in air.
Equip D/D, reach your beloved 30 sec swiftness or just use the guardian swiftness to reach 1 min…
Use glyph of elemental harmony….
Second case you won t get any swiftness added.
Try to reach swiftness cap with D/D combos and staff combos by yourself….see the difference.
I still have to test it properly but i m quite convinced they overdo with D/D swiftness stack..
(i play ele since release and i admit in the past was able to stack up to 30 min swiftness, then drop to 30, then reverted to 2 mins, then back to 30….none of that was EVER mentioned in patchnotes….i have yet to test after last patch, but Yesterday i noticed glyph wasn t giving me any swiftness when i had 50 sec obtained by a guard with D/D equipped, while i usually get past 1 min with staff).
Why D/D swiftness is capped at 30 or something like that while other profession can stack minutes of swiftness?
Notice that this was a stealth nerf that started many Patches ago….to the point that today any swiftness won t stack past 30 seconds or less.
What i can t get is how on D/D even healing skills, traits etc won t let you pass those 30 sec while with staff you can get more than 1 min with the same skills…..
when a fix introduces more probelms than the bug fixed…..
They should just revert the change until they can solve it…
Or just make iwarden attack on spawn at its position and only after the CD behaving like now.
what about Group of thieves that are not full zerker being able to camp in front of spawns?
what about bloodlust.
Not to mention how a fleeing thief doesn t give reward as other profession.
Since anet said “if you make a thief flee you have won”, then make them drop reward on stealth from combat….or do something about it as people is asking since release maybe….
1) class balance
2) some mechanics like bloodlust promoting roamers groups
3) taking care of thieves state (they still can disengage at will like no other profession)
4) antizerg mechanics
5) retaliation change
In the end, pugging is not about socializing, it’s about getting the dungeon done as fast and efficient as possible. Dungeon runners will be all friendly and sociable until you mess up, unless you play with friends or guild mates.
and this started when the play the way you want changed to grind to your Death….
When there wasn t the necessity of amassing huge amount of gold to equip your charaters, groups were more friendly…and people didn t count the seconds lost in a dungeon run….
You can t kill any nearly decent thief…
Most www thieves are bad so people thinks that they can win…
But any decent thief player will be able to disengage at will with no risk of losing….expecially in www.

Imho..its a bad idea going D/D in fractal…
people will say L2evade….and they Always forgets base concept of this game like skills like fire 3, earth 3-3, air 4 etc that will leave you totally defenseless enough to be oneshot.
If the reaction Windows is shorter than the skill duration, and it forces you into melee, its really impossible to react.
Not to mention how nice the “aoe cap” will give priority to “invisible and indestructible targets” like the dredge cart and many Others turning your aoe in less than single target.
Finally the total lack of reflect and short stability.
Well i finally tried to use custom soundtracks for gw2.
All is working except in dungeons where i often get the dungeon music instead of the custom followed by some custom music.
And for people interested..
If you have issues with playlists:
Edit them with notepad
They won t work with dynamic paths like ../../music etc etc
They need the exact path like C:/music/trackname
its time to admit the RTL nerf mistake maybe….
revert to 20 sec plain.
Many professions have better disengages…but contrary to ele they:
-have defense mechanics
-have better HP and or armor
-doesn t desperatly need a RELIABLE gap closer…and rtl at 40 CD is not.
Ele first issue resides in skills, not in traits….
The silk incident is just half of the damask incident…

If there are only LFG heavy on fotm 1-50 the issue is quite significant and can t be ignored.
Stronger or not screens shows a problem that has to be fixed…..

I don t care if its due to players thinking wrongly war is the best class or because its so easy than a potato can use it without any problem…

Its not that people like warrior…is that to play any pug dungeon you need warriors…

I got how it works after 1 year.
Until you realize that you still need to do the time gated stuff to level up your crafting skills high enough to actually make the ascended equipment in the first place. Whether or not you can purchase the time gated mats off of the trading post you still have to get a crafting skill to a high enough level to actually make the ascended gear. And since the Ascended Gear is bound to you, you can’t simply have someone else craft it for you.
I’m pretty sure I can get to 500 crafting in a few hours if I have money. And if I dont’ it’ll take alot more than a few hours.
You still need to do “something” yourself, but with money it is much easier right?
Note: With MONEY. Gold. Easily accessible in-game.
Then WHY is it time gated? Please explain that.

player A pays real money and get ascended weapons
Player B instead has to wait and craft it slowly in 1 month.For 1 month player A is having advantage.
a month pass, player A and B are supposed to be on equal ground..
But Anet release Ascended armors taking 3 monthsPlayer A buys them
Player B Waits some months.Another 3 month of advantage of player A….
What will happen in 3 months? infusions….This is the reason behind the trendmill we are seeying and the added grinding.
Now lets add that in NO WAY (with the ONLY small exception of market flipping) you can gain enough gold to be on par with player A.
Considering a reasonable amount of daily play….(i farm most dungeons daily………i still have to finish ascended weapons).
you will have to grind all our time and still won t be able to be on par….also we won t really “play the game”.
Player A cannot buy ascended. Your argument is invalid.

Paying to have an unfair advantage is still P2W…bypassing 36 days of timegating and having to farm only 2 days (dragonite and the remaining T7).
You can do easily 5-700 dragonite per day…and most players have so much empyreal and bloodstones to trash it.
so basically finishing ascended faster is considered Pay-to-Win ? win against what ? there is no contest or competition who would finish their ascended first as far as i know, or am i missing any ?
You’re using gold to buy those things. None of those things are for sale in the gemstore. Here’s my link: Log into your game and bring up the gem shop. Search for any of the materials involved in making ascended armor/weapons/whatever. So, not only are they NOT for sale there, and thus NOT behind the ceiling of using real money to get them, your only argument here is that people can get gold for their gems.
100gold=~$20. If you think that’s a good, efficient way of making gold, then you’re either not paying rent/bills or you’re much better off than most people are right now.
However, here’s the biggest point I’m trying to make: Gold is the currency of all these things you’re bringing up, and Gold is not hard to come by in the game. And I say that as someone who was too poor to waypoint earlier today.
