5 man time: 9 m 6 s
trio time: 9 m 5 s
Crazy o.O
Recruitment’s amped up lately
Come give us a try!
People ahve looked at their combat log, calculated the coefficients of the attacks and figured out the formulas for damage. They then do rotations and calculate the time it takes to do different attacks and combinations of attacks. They throw all that information into a well built spreadsheet, and play around with it till they find an optimized answer.
So basically most of the work is done with just good ol’ maths and is heavily focused on the theoretical. Then you take that and analyze the practical and argue with people about it
There actually are several DPS meters available, so I was assuming that’s how at least some of the DPS calculations were done
Need more elite zerkburgers :^)
Not sure if you guys saw, but tucked into the frog post was a sentence or two about fractal masteries saying they’ll bring better rewards and make you more powerful.
Over under on the new rewards being access to the fractal weapon box if you level up fractal masteries?
better rewards?
give me legendaries for completing level 1 fractals and i still won’t bother playing, the game needs more content, not more rewards.
let’s just see if HoT can deliver.
I don’t know why, but I’ve got a feeling we will get no dungeons and fractals with HoT, instead their challenging group content will be tower defense like game inside GW2. I don’t know why, but after seeing pacman and dota in GW2, I feel like the next logical step is TD-like gamemode.
Pacman? Don’t you mean mario?
I’ve always found the swiftness pretty funny, +1 for the relevant pic.
I’m gonna go ahead and assume that in an as-of-yet unannounced challenge mode version of TA the nightmare tree uproots and chases you around the dungeon :^)
Still recruiting avid dungeon-runners!
The UI customization in this game leaves a lot to be desired. A simple menu where you could tick off UI features you want to have would go a looong way.
Since underwater combat is now ‘unlocked’ at a higher level, that area was drained because it would be a deathtrap for players to go swimming before they actually are able to defend themselves while doing so.
Wow, I thought you were joking at first.
Now I know better.
This is just really, really sad. Cutting content from their game because it’s too “confusing”? Really? What an absolute waste.
Jumping is an exploit :^)
In fact I think gear in general is unneeded, since I recall seeing a number of naked solos.
Teaching players to equip gear is just filling their heads with “useless information”, so we may as well not bother informing anyone that you can equip items too~
A thief stealthing himself at cannon phase on mai trin…. Grrrrrr
Or when im on thief and say ill stealth u if ur low on health and an ele mist forms out of sr…Grrrrr
Pretty much every profession with a downed blink that does that. I can’t count the number of times I’ve started rezzing a downed mesmer only to have them blink away :P
Crazy to see how a single persona managed to change the UI to be so much better than the original, which was made by a team at an established company. Fantastic job, especially on the dyes.
The rewards are okay. They give lots of champ boxes and you get the chance to make mawdrey, which is an ascended backpiece and gives you item that lets you eat up bloodstone dust and spit out bags of loot.
I noticed it when fighting Kholer in Arah P1 (strangely, P2 and P3 weren’t affected). When my party would get 2 stacks off, the last couple would sometimes pop Immune until we had done enough raw damage to him. Was running my guardian, party was Ele, Thiefx2 and War. Thief using Head Shot while I was spamming my blinds.
Kholer?
I didn’t know Arah had a Kholer in it :P
I agree with jerus on this. I think it will cause more damage then good. The only situation where reflect is broken is lupi and his 5 billion projectiles from one attack. The individual damage of each reflected projectile is actually pretty fair considering his health. So nerfing/changing reflect damage is a poor solution in my opinion.
Yeah, I’d really hate to see reflects get nerfed across the board. There aren’t a lot of situations that are made trivial by reflects, but they do simplify a lot of the content. Which is a good thing IMO, because that allows some of the more support-oriented classes like mesmer and guardian to remain viable.

Yeah, would you look at all these dumb dungeon runners thinking silly things like dodging and swiftness matter outside of highly elite dungeon speedruns! Regular players don’t need to know what dodging or combo fields are, because who even needs to dodge in this game anyway?
Protip: Don’t assume that just because you don’t want to learn the oh-so complicated mechanics behind dodging or combos, doesn’t mean others don’t
Thats a really lazy and ineffective method of teaching though. They need actual interactive tutorials. They would probably have to be class specific tutorials or use environmental weapons to demonstrate combos.
Not disagreeing but they have at least started putting the info in. When I started I had no idea what a combo field was until I found the wiki and looked it up.
How would you feel about a heart like the training heart in Queensdale where you learn to block (if you take the shield that is)? Just do ones for different mechanics or something.
That heart was my favorite QD heart when I first started playing. I thought it was awesome that there was this sort of minigame. Though I’m not sure that simply having it as a heart would ensure people do it, since I know many players skip a lot of the hearts.
Bumping for more members~
Hey all,
I’ve been having problems with defiant stripping lately.
When running arah path 2 with guildies a week or so ago, both I and another partymate had trouble clearing defiant stacks off of alphard. The first couple of stacks would strip without a problem (using thief pistol 4), but after around 3 stacks stripped, I would start getting “immune” popups. I got one of the guildies to rejoin on his thief to confirm, and he got the same result.
Today, I’ve had the same “immune” popups appear on the Wraithlord’s Crusher after around 2 or 3 successfully stripped defiant stacks. I was using thief pistol 4 to strip, as before. Has anyone else experienced problems with defiant stripping lately? Maybe I’m missing something, but this seems like a bug :>
Guys, on your LFG for high level fractals, do you ask for meta builds? I had an horrible experience at lv 49: very bad dps, a necro using signet of the locust the whole run…
I’ve had some “fun” experiences with a certain locust signet necro who claimed he “plays at the highest possible level” :>
Wonder if it’s the same guy…
Nice solo, I do find that guardian is one of the slower classes to do it on. Was surprised to see you wall him so close to the “reset spot”, I’ve had him surprise me with a 1% reset in the past, which is never fun xD
Before you raise such matters as “bad players”, you might want to consider to what kind of audience a game like this caters to. In my opinion, your problem is not “the bad playerbase”, but that you simply picked the wrong game. Learn to deal with it or move on.
This is actually a really good point that I think a lot of folks gloss over. It’s a tough pill to swallow that the game you are playing and even enjoying just isn’t targeted at you.
I’ve kept this in mind for the last 6 months – 1 year and it’s made the game a lot more enjoyable for me. I think others could do the same and find themselves enjoying the game again.
I see so many people claiming that gw2 is a casual-only game, that it’s a themepark, that it isn’t catered to more hardcore players, but I simply cannot agree that this is Anet’s intention.
With the amount of effort and money they spend trying to bring attention and players to the hardcore PvP scene, it’s obvious they agree that it is the hardcore players who bring in new blood, usually via streams and big events. Why they apply their money and attention to the PvP side of the game only, rather than taking advantage of all the PvE content they have as well, when catering to hardcore players, honestly baffles me.
It’s obvious they care about getting GW2’s name out both to casual players (via things like that video promotion with the “oath” they made a while back) and hardcores (through their PvP efforts, tourneys, mini lama and leaderboards), but they seem to be missing out on the hardcore PvE-ers in the game.
Yo from your guild name I assume you are on the tarnished coast server, Would it be cool if i joined if Im on Blackgate?
We’re cross-server, and not actually affiliated with any server. We absolutely accept players from all servers, but be sure to apply through the website so we can get you in the system! It’s a fast application that won’t take long at all, I promise
Bumping again! Come check out our site for more info ~
Shoo stupid forum bug!
Been busy lately, but never too busy to bump~

Bump! Still recruiting avid dungeon-runners.
I have no interest in being a part of this guild any more
That’s great to hear because you won’t be. Though you did a thorough job of exposing your anger issues and antisocial tendencies in a public setting
I can just imagine the influx of controller players in my PUG runs. “Hey guard can you grab wall of reflect?” “Sorry, it takes 10 minutes to change utilities or traits with my controller setup”
When combining rares, you must proc both the 20% upgrade chance AND the 0.5-1% precursor chance, while using exotics allows you to skip the 20% upgrade chance, so naturally using exotics yields a higher precursor return rate.
While I’m all for diversity, a shooter made on an MMO engine would probably play about as well as a platformer on an MMO engine (hint: not very well)
Dynamic events that lead to large group dungeon instances. Makes finding groups more seamless.
I’m not sure what you’re suggesting? That players do an open-world event that progressively gets closer to a dungeon entrance, then continues inside it? We already have something similar with the dungeon unlocking system (coe/cof are fine examples). Only the current system takes you to the entrance without forcing you inside to complete the event. Anyway, how would the party system work then? What if there are 6 people doing the event? Would only the first 5 people get to enter the dungeon while the 6th is out of luck? I’m pretty confused by what you’re proposing.
I’ll go over the complaints with those who brought them to my attention, but I don’t think anyone was in the business of taking screenshots. I’ll bring it up with our officers as well, but I must admit that it’s unlikely the decision will be reversed, if only for the reason you chose to bring this to our recruitment thread, where it has no business being, rather than PM me directly.
There’s no need to take getting kicked from a guild so personally, it is no comment on you as a person (and nobody ever called you a “worthless piece of kitten”, nor implied it), simply a reflection of two different philosophies on doing things. I’m sure you’d feel more at home in a guild more aligned with your attitude towards doing things anyway.
Hey guys! What’s going on in this thre—o—oh.. oh. Okay… alright.. I’ll… I’ll just leave you all to it then… sorry to interrupt. /closesdoor
Posting in this thread got me my first infraction. I should have ran when I had the chance =>
disc* banner. Never seen it abbreviated as disp.
Yeah, that was a typo, thanks
- [Fractals – Thaumanova] The eastern event where you have to break open the doors to save the Asuran engineers is broken insofar as the door to the collider is open even if you never save any of the engineers.
This is only the case in fractals were you need to activate all 4 colliders (iirc 40 and higher). Yesterday, at level 30 or 20 (cant remember in which I had Thaumanova), it was closed (as it was before the patch in the same situations).
This is most likely intended! That part can FAIL by having one asura die, resulting in the door not opening, making it impossible to activate the collider in that area. It’s even noticeable by the audio “Never mind that collider”. If it would fail in a situation where all colliders are needed, it would mean the end of that fractal run.
Interesting. If this is indeed intended then this is the first example I can think of where failing an instanced event has any real consequence besides spending a few seconds repairing.
Not to mention that 7-8/10 times people who join are fully ascended which is individually 7.48% damage boost but in a party full of ascendeds, that’s 37.4% damage boost which is always welcome!
this isnt how 2 math..
Math is hard.

(Don’t miss Murderous Clown’s amazing story as you enjoy that thread)
Sometimes I think that any new purchase of gw2 should require a skill-testing question, much like many lottery tickets…
They need to do something. Maybe even using the /age counter that has been in the game from day 1. Maybe use AP as the measuring stick. Anything other than the current catch-all system.
I’d like to kick this thread off by saying this is by far the most inconvenient system I’ve seen come into play by ArenaNet. I haven’t even finished the first week with this change in place without running into gold cap from my members. I run 2 lotteries (weekly and legendary), I get donations, I get premium fees, I get funding for seasonal giveaways… I am the 1% crippled by this new process.
I don’t know how this is going to stop anyone, but now it’s going to force me to rewrite my systems to use items as currencies instead (which introduces issues like 15% TP taxes for resale, fluctuating prices, etc).
ANet, you had time to think about how this was going to affect the “1%” before integrating this into your routines. its been over 2.5 years and all of a sudden you integrate this system without having a plan for exceptions?
I fully agree with OP that this system creates artificial barriers on some of the most common activities undertaken by larger guilds, namely raffles and giveaways. Was gold selling really such a large problem that anet will allow such an inconvenience to affect thousands of its’ players? Or would it maybe be easier to detect suspicious gold transactions between players, without setting a limit on accounts that have been active for over two and a half years. Oh but that would require an actual live person to go over these transactions, silly me
“Profession Roles Withing the Meta” has some strange symbols in place of an apostrophe in the first sentence "…and this is reflected in the individual profession’s perceived value in the community. "
A few terms/definitions you may wish to add to the glossary: fotm(fractals of the mist), pathing, stacking, blasting
as well as maybe common skill abbreviations that people ask for in pugs: fb (feedback), WoR (wall of reflection), SR (shadow refuge), disc*/str banner, WB (warbanner), fgj, things like that.
Not sure if you mean for the glossary to be full of general terms or only to refer to terms you used in other places on the site, but it’s something to consider.
Also, maybe add a “consumeables” section to the skipping tab? Just to briefly cover the common consumeables used in skipping, though it’s true that anet’s occasional patching of this sort of thing could affect the guide.

Here’s a leaderboard idea : release those fractal leaderboards that we’ve all had our fotm progress reset for >=(
What’s wrong with the gw2 humans replicating the armor design that a particular diety is depicted in? If it makes you feel better, think of the outfit as an imperfect imitation, though I do agree that diety-themed legendary armor would be pretty awesome.
I think somone missunderstood my first post. It just feeols like my entire journey is worthless until I am level 80 and have put 10’s of hours into dungeons then? I don’t want to mass destruct one area, i just want to feel that every level I do is worth it, I want to feel it.
You all might hate me for taking this as an example. But if any of you have played Runescape? Did you ever feel the joy and the slighest stronger for every Strength level you aquired? And the game was built so that you could feel it within your enemies. In Rs2 I used to love my maxed character because I felt like e Demi-God, yes low level NPC was easy but i still has many threats even at max level, but you did atleast feel like a max level.
Even after 54 levels I feel the same, do you who read this understand my point now? Maybe this game isnt for me, and don’t think I want GW2 to be Runescape, it was just an example!
Once you get to 80 and have a full set of exotic armor, assuming you go with Berserker’s gear and not some craptastic healer/tank set, you’ll be able to one-shot or two-shot most low level mobs. That’s because scaling lets you keep bonuses from your armor, and those are pretty significant at max level. So keep on truckin’
Aren’t exotics also scaled down to not matter at low enough levels? please correct me if I’m wrong. Either way, yeah with traits and zerk gear you can whirlwind through a pack of enemies in say Brisban and watch them all die.
Looks like I was talking out of my kitten lol. I spent some time trying to find where I read that but couldn’t. There’s a pretty good post on reddit explaining how downscaling works: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/113xm9/downscaling_in_dungeons/
Apparently every bit of bonus stats you get (such as that provided by armor) is also scaled down proportional to the area. The post then goes to explain why an undergeared 80 will have worse stats than an optimally-geared level 30 guy. This might explain why OP is having problems killing things in low level areas: if his gear is of a lower level than he is, he will be punished by the scaling rather than rewarded by it.
But again, all of this will go away once you get geared in 80’s exotic Berserker’s gear OP, so just keep at it, you WILL feel the “demigod” level of damage compared to open-world mobs when you hit level cap and get geared, I promise you
Anet won’t confirm this because AFAIK this is an “exploit fix” and they don’t want to advertise the existence of exploits. Pretty funny considering how many of them have been unavoidable at one point or another for a large majority of players
