Salma District - Home Instance changes

in Personal Story

M Steel.2574

Changes in Salma District are less apparent & require some searching to find.

You should see something a long the following:

  • A priest or priestess representing the god or goddess you chose during character creation.
  • NPC’s from the first and second chapter of your personal story. For example: I chose Street Rat and now Riot Alice appears in my home instance.
  • Representatives from the lesser race you chose to assist (Scritt, Hyleck, or Quaggan).
  • Mira

There are others as well

Home Instance after Personal Story Act 1

M Steel.2574

Here’s is a list of changes I am aware of for each race:

Spoilers Follow

Norn Home Instance Changes

  • A shaman will appear in your home instance representing one of the four animal spirits. The shaman you get depends on the animal totem you choose.
  • If you choose “Defeat Our Ancient Foes” additional weapons racks will appear in your home instance.
  • If your chose to get revenge on your rival, Balteus Bloodletter (a charr) will appear in your home instance.
  • If you join the Vigil, Dalloros, a sylvari Vigil champion will appear in your home instance along with Vigil Representative Thurkill.
  • Depending on what minor race you chose to assist, a group of grawl, ogres, or scritt will appear in your home instance.
  • After the Battle of Claw Island, Mira will appear in your home instance. She is easy to miss because she is lying in bed wearing civilian cloths. Her hair is gone and she is missing an eye to reflect her injured state.
  • If you choose “Protect the Spirits” a minotaur spirit will appear in your home instance.
  • If you choose “Lost an Heirloom” a Kodan will appear in your home instance.

Sylvari Home Instance Changes

  • The firstborn of which ever cycle you chose during character creation will appear in your home instance.
  • The White Stag will move into your home instance if you rescue it.
  • If you kill the Green Knight his helmet will hang from a tree in your home instance and Gairwen will appear in your home instance.
  • If you select the crescent moon shield, a random valiant/warden will appear in your home instance.
  • If you chose “Act with wisdom, but act,” Larra, the asura from the quest line, will appear in your home instance.

Charr Home Instance Changes

  • As you collect members for your warband, each one will appear in your home instance, including your sparring partner.

Asura Home Instance Changes

  • The mentor you selected during character creation will appear in your home instance.
  • If you chose the college of Synergetics, an asura named Bezia will appear in your home instance. You will see her immediately upon entering the instance, she is across from the gate.
  • If you chose the weather machine as your first invention, a sylvari named Peredur will appear in your home instance.

Human Home Instance Changes

  • A priest or priestess will appear in your home instance representing the god or goddess you selected during character creation.
  • If you selected the street rat origin, Riot Alice will appear in your home instance in a back alley. Quinn will not appear whether you saved him or not, however, the dialogue of some of the npc’s will change depending on your decision. I’m not sure if this is a bug.
  • If you selected the unknown parents storyline during character creation, Exemplar Mehid and Exemplar Salia will appear in your home instance, however, their names will not display. I’m not sure if this is a bug.
  • Even if you didn’t select the commoner storyline, Andrew and Petra will appear in your home instance. Petra will be upstairs in the inn.
  • Mira will also appear upstairs in a room in the inn, but I believe she is also bugged. In my instance she is wearing full armor & standing on a bed. I know in that in other instances she unarmored, bedridden, and missing an eye.

All Races

  • Depending on what racial sympathy you choose, a group of that race will appear in your home instance, usually accompanied by an npc from the quest line.

I definitely agree. Having some sort of slot for consumables would be great.

Better Aquatic Helm Skins

M Steel.2574

I hate that when my norn wears an aquatic helm his beard disappears. It makes his head look misshapen and breaks my immersion. Could we get some better aquatic helm skins, possible ones that cover the entire face to avoid the beard issue.

Mounts...

M Steel.2574

Dolyaks, marmox, bulls, and oakhearts are already used for pack animals, it would make sense for them to be used as mounts as well.

Not necessarily. Training an animal to pull a load is quite different from training an animal to accept a rider.

I was thinking more in terms of rendering, since they already have stuff on their backs & are of a sufficient size to carry most races, but you make a good point. Perhaps there should be racial mounts. While an Asura riding a moa would work out fine, a nine foot norn might find it a tad difficult.

Player Housing

in Suggestions

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I read somewhere that they have planned to implement player housing. I just assumed it would be in your home instance, because there are vacant buildings, rooms, areas, etc. in each home instance (as far as I’ve seen). This seems like the easiest area for player housing to be implemented.

M Steel.2574

My norn totally needs a dolyak to ride around on. Dolyaks, marmox, bulls, and oakhearts are already used for pack animals, it would make sense for them to be used as mounts as well. I’d like to see mounts with a small increase in movement speed.

Sidekick from personal storyline

I suppose it wouldn’t be too difficult for the developers to reward a mini pet of the race you chose upon completion of the racial sympathy story arc. It wouldn’t require too much tweaking, since mini pets are already a part of the game & might encourage more gameplay if the mini pets are unique (you’d have to complete all the racial sympathy quests to collect them all). Alternatively, they could add a special elite skill that allows you to summon a member of the race you chose to assist to fight a long side you for a short time.

I really like the idea of having an NPC companion following your character around, but I think it would be difficult to implement.

Just started playing my first norn and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who finds the dance totally out of character. Seriously, it is awful. I think they need a dance that reflects the norn culture better.

Improved Environment Interactions

M Steel.2574

I’d like to see Guild Wars 2 develop a more immersive gaming environment. For example:

It would enhance immersion if player characters could sit in chairs, use beds, etc.

Make cities more dynamic

Taverns could be improved by making them more intereactive. Improve tavern keeper dialogue so that they respond to key events taking place in the world, have bards that actually sing, dance, do magic and/or tell stories. Have tavern themed mini events like drinking competitions, darts, puzzles, bar brawls. Many of these things have been implemented in one form or another in player quests.

More clothing options, more freedom.

M Steel.2574

I’d like to see more cultural town clothing and cultural armor options, preferably ones that don’t cost gems, and can be bought with gold or karma.

Slot for Minis

in Suggestions

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I’d like to see some sort of slot created for mini pets outside of a character’s inventory, so you can enable or disable them without having to click into your inventory & don’t have to worry about accidentally selling them or sending them to the bank with the rest of your collectables. Perhaps they could be treated as an accessory like the wintersday toy bag that can be toggled on and off. It would make minis more convenient.

Do you ever wish to join the Nightmare Court?

in Sylvari

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I hope to see the developers expand on Sylvari culture and factions in later expansions; fingers crossed. If you chose “Where Life Goes, So Too Should You,” then you know there is more to the dream/nightmare dichotomy than meets the eye. Personally I’d love the chance to join the Nightmare Court. The White Stag quest line shows that they consist of a wide range of characters (they are not all sociopaths) and if you listen to what they have to say and why they don’t follow Ventari’s teachings, it actually makes a lot of sense. There are also sylvari who cut themselves off from both the dream and the nightmare entirely. There is a lot of room for further exploration of sylvari culture and I hope we will see some in future game updates.

Favorite Class for Norn?

in Norn

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I’m partial to guardian or ranger.

Rangers are nice because they allow you to have a pet that represents your Spirit Guide (Snow Leopard, Raven, Bear, and Wolf). The Norn starting area is filled with juvenile animals, so it is easy to expand your collection of pets quickly (You can find juvenile snow leopards, ravens, brown bears, arctodus, alpine wolves, and ice drakes in the Wayfarer Foothills). You can also find juvenile polar bears in Hoelbrak. Rangers are nice, because they can switch between melee and ranged weaponry and still pack a punch. They also fit in well canonically. Eir is a ranger.

Guardians are a very popular class for norns and my personal favorite to roll when I play a norn. The graphics are well done for greatsword and war hammer wielding and the dialogue is appropriate.

Your Spirit Guide choice affects what?

in Norn

M Steel.2574

If you visit the temple of your Spirit Guide, the shaman there will recognize you as a follower of whatever spirit you chose and have some special dialogue, but that is all I’ve noticed.

Expanding Personal Story

The Further Adventure of YOU

in Personal Story

M Steel.2574

I’d also like to see players’ personal stories expanded. I’ve been playing an orphaned, human, street rat & it seems like my character’s personal story has a lot of loose ends and opportunities for follow-up stories. I was disappointed that the characters I met in the first chapter of my personal story (Quinn, Riot Alice, etc.) don’t play a part in the rest of the game. I’d like to see them revisited in some way.

Home Instance Wishlist

M Steel.2574

Home instances need an overhaul. Here is what I’d like to see in the future. Feel free to add to the list.

- Instant travel to the home instance (home instance waypoint)
- Black Lion & Bank Access in the home instance
- Improve dialogue/interaction with personal story related NPC’s
- Small dynamic events/dailies (gathering events, escort events, etc.)
- Player homes with trophies, customizations, etc. – upgrades through Black Lion
- Repair merchant.
- Target practice, dummies, training areas
- More order representation (representatives from Vigil, Priory, or Whispers)
- Guild representation (guild banners, emblem display, etc.)
- The occasional visit w/dialogue from Logan, Caithe, Rytlock, Zojja, or Eir depending on a character’s race.
- A clothing merchant that sells commoner clothing/noble clothing for kharma points

SPOILER ALERT – Turn Back Now

- A memorial for a fallen mentor

Home Instance: Future Plans?

in Personal Story

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

Spoilers I’d like to see Quinn added to the Street Rat’s home instance if he was saved. He was a big part of the personal story, but I can’t find him anywhere. I found Riot Alice, Andrew, Petra, Mira, minor race, etc., but no Quinn.

I’d like to be able to interact with npc’s from my personal story, otherwise they are just scenery. Put a few dailies in the home instance (gathering, puzzles, etc.), spice up the dialogue, add a little customization.
