For the love of everything half sensible, please change that name before its too late, Anet!
You don’t even have to apologize. Will write it off as a Bata-name holder.
- Guardian – Protector, defender, guard.
- Hunter… NOT that ^
I’m fairly sure the entire crew, destiny’s Edge, and others would restrain or kill you before you could succeed in the first place. :P
I am pretty sure, you are wrong.
“You’re a scholar, not a general, Firstborne. Why should we trust you?” – Watch commander Talon.
Although that line is really nonsensical in the grater arc in that instance, it pretty much sums up what I believe most of the orders would have said. Trahearne, should have been an advisor.
Agreed. both of you raise very good points. Well put.
Think of it this way…
If you were the big leader of the Pact, YOU would be dealing with the paperwork. Generals typically don’t lead from the front, they sit behind a desk. Traehearne sat behind the desk and dealt with the paperwork and other aspects while you kicked kitten in the field.
Or, the pact leaders could do all that. Alternatively, given that it’s a game and there is no background administration, no one could do it, since no one does do it. Trehearne could be removed and nothing would be lost.
Going with this logic, we could literally remove a huge chunk of npcs and have ‘nothing lost’ storywise.
Lost sister? Who cares. She physically appears once or twice early on, then once again, ONLY if you pic the tank option. Remove her and nothing is lost.
Guy from tutorial area with the pet fox? Appears twice. remove him and nothing is lost.
So on so forth with named npcs until eventually, there is just the freaking player character and nameless mooks.
Difference is, that sword was actually needed to cleanse Orr. Traehearne new the ritual. Other aspects make sense for him to do. Simply spouting “But we could insert nameless mook number 13 to do that!” or “We could remove that character!” doesn’t work because then I ask you apply that to… everybody.
Oh hey, we could remove Tybalt from the Claw Island arc and lose nothing from the story according to that logic. Staying behind? Anybody could do that. Replace him with some random high ranking OoW character and bam, success! But then the loss wouldn’t be as heavy, because it’d be some random nameless character. Likewise for the cleansing of Orr, if it was some nameless or random group of Pact spellcasters doing the ritual, it wouldn’t have the impact IMO.
Oh… now you give legitimacy to my point. The story is written so poorly and the NPC are so faceless, so one dimensional, that you could literally remove them and nothing would be lost. Moronharne is no difference.
The issue is not JUST the character, its the story telling. Its poor. It is flat. It creates no sense of immersion, no feeling of contribution.
There is one single exception: Tibalt.
So now consider the point that in the entire personal story, most people remember only 2 of the NPC’s; Tibalt and Moronharne.
One, because they love him, the other, because they hate him.
…Traeharne should have been the bloody villain! At least the feeling we fel towards him would have made sense.
Sorry friend, just because you play a sylvari does not make the character any better. He is bad, and there is a LOT of reasons for it, and a lot more people who feel that way then there are otherwise. Whether they are opinions or legitimate complaints is utterly irrelevant. The point it, the character is loathed, and he should not be where he is.
I honestly hope when HoT comes around, we get to kill him and he is forgotten once and for all.
Choosing Trahearne at that point in time was really the only reasonable option,
No. Actually it was an entirely unreasonable option.
He had no command experience, no military experience at all as near as we can tell. He actively demonstrates a complete lack of tactical acumen in play. He also admits to having no understanding or experience of Orrian creatures after claiming to have studied Orr extensively.
The idea that there was not a single combat trained and experienced military officer available to fill a command position, any one of which would have been a better choice, is ludicrous. This is particularly true in a continent in a continuous state of war.
In complete agreement.
What’s really funny to me is how Trahearne expresses shock when an abomination appears during the Further Into Orr mission. This is after at least one mission with a number of abominations. And then he seems surprised when a couple of risen quaggan appear later in that same mission, despite having studied Orr for years and having traveled to Orr . . .
Yeah, this inconsistencies int he story is appalling. It is as if the whole thing was written by 5 different people, who worked in 5 different offices, in 5 different counties, and never talked because they hate each other.
Mary Sue writers can take lessons from the peeps who wrote the personal story. I like how some “fixes” came in lately. First time you get to claw island, Moronurne goes on about how he studied Orian creatures for years. Then in the “dream” where you and him gets taken to Orr, he goes… or at least, used to say something like; Oh Mother, they are horrible. I have never seen such creatures.
Wait… what have you been studying then?
Now he says something like; oh, those things are formidable.
Sorry, Anet, but that does not fix this pathetic character, or this very very bad storyline. You need to do a little more than that.
Plus… knock-backs! REALLY! You had to give him…. KNOCK-BACKS!??
Despise that character. Trying to finish personal story on my alts, and just thinking that I have to be in the same room as that guy puts me off from it.
OP, you need to understand that the game is balanced around pvp. Always has been, always will be.
PvErs have never liked it, but those of us that were around in GW1 know and understand that this is how Anet works. Yes, GW2 was (supposedly) designed as primarily a pve game; however, pvp has always been the scene in which Anet has catered to. Nothing wrong with that necessarily. As such, yes, they are going to take feedback from their top tier pvp players into heavy consideration when they do balancing. Those people eat, breathe, and sleep the classes they play. As such, they should actually offer some valuable input from a balance perspective.
Yes, Anet has said that they try to look at how a change will impact all game modes before implementing it; however, until they willing start splitting skills and balancing the modes individually, expect PvE balance to always take a back seat.
Balance should be separated between pvp pve and wvw and we know they can do this BECAUSE THEY DID THIS IN GW1
Why is this game a step backwards I have no idea.
Agree 130%
Although, I agree that there was/is a problem, the fix seems a bit… Knee-jerk-reactioney…. I am sure there are better way to do things then this, guys?
And if the hall of monuments is any indicator of disabled things… No, this is very knee-jerk, fellas.
OMG…. nothing is ever enough for some people….
Here is an idea, go back to WOW and leave this game to people who can read, care, and possibly understand.
Any chance of re-looking at this item’s price?
At current exchange rates, it is around 47 gold for 1. (On the individual package)
The most expensive Runes currently are Torment at 10.99 gold, and Exuberance at 10.95.
Looking as Sigils, and setting aside Generosity and Karka Slaying for the moment as those are the exception to the rule, Bursting and Torment is around 14 gold.
So, logically, trying to retrieve runes for example, it would be better to convert the gems into gold, trash the runes instead of exacting, and buying 4 for the price of one, with 7 gold change.
An inclusion of these items into BL Chests or as log-in BL rewards would be cool as well.
(Please note, all prices only valid at the creation of this post.)
THANK YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for making the ascended changes! It is FANTASTIC!
Thank you Colin, for letting us know about this.
From me, at least, it is much appreciated
This is great news as it does alleviate a lot of the RNG aspect when it comes to getting ascended outside of crafting.
No it not, its fantastic news!
paranoid mode on
You guys really fall for this smoke screen to cloud the whole controversy about the pre-purchase price policy?
This is a quality of life update to be able to change a current ascended armour into another stat via the MF. As it destroys all upgrades, a complete re-mod would cost e.g. ~120 gold (Zerker/Hoelbrak runes) + Laurels and soul shards.
I appreciate the update, but all the concerns and valid arguments about the HoT xpack have not been addressed.
paranoid mode off
Get over yourself bro. This has NOTHING to do with it. This is fantastic news, and this is why I love they game. But kids like you will use ANY excuse to push your own agendas. Go back to your cancer thread and leave the rest of us to be excited and appreciate this update.
……
One of the things it’ll be most useful for is obtaining extraordinarily expensive ascended stat combinations, like the zealot’s stats. The prices for some of those recipes and such are astronomical due to the supply limit. However, being able to swap to those stats will put them in line with any other type of ascended gear. In general, all the tradeable recipes will have their prices normalized to each other, which is good for people who have not been able to get ascended stuff due to the price barrier.
yep keeper’s gear. this was the 1st thing that came to my mind.
Got my set through Fractal Raiders boxes. Is one of the stat options in the raiders boxes. But yes, this is fantastic! Fantastic news. I got a spreadsheet open where I am planing my moves
I need to go change my underwear. O.O Please excuse me.
Would like to see a few more options become more readily available as well. Be it future or soon. Would still like to see it.
Let this not die. Show you support the game. Show you do not support or agree with the behaviors of a very very vocal and miss-mannered few. Sigh-up now, and get what you know will be worth it!
Agree with OP. Keep in mind, its a PRE-purchase. Who knows what “purchase” deal will look like once its released.
When have you lost an argument, when you need to focus on things other than the argument to try and win points. Things such as… say grammar.
You are not arguing. You are misusing term without knowing what it means.
Nah bro, I am not arguing. I’m a bird brain after all. So being confused kinda comes with the turf. I am still however supporting the product, and I am still buying multiple copies. Confused or not.
Correct. I am not arguing. I am voicing an opinion…
And, it would have been funnier if you posted this:

You are not arguing but others lose an argument which was no argument since you were only voicing an opinion?
Not sure who of us is confused.

Even if you gave me the $10 I wouldn’t spend it on this expac. I can find so many better uses for $10.
Then don’t I’m going to though. Twice!
The first thing that tipped me off that you aren’t well equipped for this kind of argument is using the term “entitled generation”. That aside, most people aren’t angry that new people are getting something for free (the core game) and the veteran players are not. The problem is that the new players are at least getting their $50 worth. The original price of the game was about $60 on release, and being out this long, obviously the price would have gone down. Crazy $10 weekends aside, this game would probably run about $35-$40 at most retailers. Add to that an expansion that so far looks to cover about 15-20% of the core game’s map (The Maguuma is not that big of an area), we can’t assume, even with the idea that the maps will be HUGE in a vertical kind of way, that this expac will really make the game that much bigger. A new class and some neat little things like hang gliders, maybe, but overall not a huge addition. At best we’re looking at a $30 expansion. MAYBE $40. (The expansion for GW1 was $35 at launch I believe, and had quite a lot of things worth paying for, but I’ll go out on a limb and say that this expansion will have a price adjustment based on some very mild inflation and the fact that we have a z axis) So, basically, $35-$40 for the core game and $35-$40 fore the expansion, that’d make the whole thing about $80.
BUT!!!The core game isn’t in question. It’s a GIFT! Therefore NO ONE should pay the $40 for the core. EVERYONE should pay $40 for JUST the expac. I’d be cool with that. Happier with $35, but I’d suck it up for another $5. But $50 is just too much. For anyone, new or old.I could scrounge around my house for 10 dollars in change.
Like…..if 10 dollars is a deal breaker for you, you may want to rethink your career choice my friend.
Yeah… I was thinking this as well…
Not arguing Saying, you guys are behaving like kids. Last time I checked, I was “entitled” to do so :P
This is a grand idea. I’m with you. 2 copies!
Hell, I’ll upgrade all of my friends’ accounts if I need to.
Actually, I like that idea a lot. I think I am gona do that same for a buddy of mine who is a bit kitten luck right now.
When have you lost an argument, when you need to focus on things other than the argument to try and win points. Things such as… say grammar.
Time invested? We are talking about a video game, right?
Not defending anything. Simply saying, I have no issue with set price and that I am satisfied with my care… and I bought multiple copies.
The reason is quite simple. Not one person has actually put forward the counter argument. Just their side. I can’t help but draw the conclusion that it is all centered around… they self, and what they is entitled. Have anyone even considered the term: PRE-Purchase" and what it will be once it is not longer for PRE-purchase, but simply a purchase?
Just curious how many people actually thought about that part. Doubt many, cause, you know, I am getting screwed… buy not loosing anything.
Still cant quite figure that one out either. I am getting screwed by not loosing anything… eh?
Uh hu…. Cause, us ‘veterans’ are so much more important than new players. Get over yourself.
Here is the mentality of the Entitled generation: “Without me, this game is dead.”
Boy, do I have a surprise for you… lel
The QQ is making me grin… Loving it.
We have heard, and loudly and mostly in all caps, the voices of the entitled generation, the folks who believe… actually, I dono what they believe.
Now, here is the voice of the other side, the side that feels that Anet has set a fair price. The side the believes it is not just a novel idea, but ground breaking to release an expansion with the base game (They were not first. Distant Worlds did it as well… but certainly in the MMO side I think). The side that do not feel they are being robbed because someone else is getting something they did not get (Not even sure how you logic that out). The side that supports the game and acknowledged that Anet employees do not work for charity (Gasp!).
The side that will… Buy 2 copies of HoT!
Yes, I will do that, and I will gift one copy to a friend, and bring someone into the game I would not be embarrassed to see talking in map-chat.
Cheers Anet. See you in HoT!
No one cares that you’re ok with sub par overpriced products, and genuinely cannot grasp or even fathom the reason why the current model is being torn apart, and rightfully so. Here’s a little secret for you, from the the entitled generation, if it was marketed CORRECTLY there wouldn’t be a discussion about it.
Free economic principle: If you feel something is over priced, don’t buy it

Keeper is bad??? I missed that memo. I think it is quite good in fact.
And PS: I have a set. No recipes though. Thank you fractals.
Random Charr in Fort Trinity (Not exact, as I can’t remember the exact words, but you’ll get the idea): Find the biggest gun you can get, and when you’re not firing, you can take cover behind it.
I can see you were not idle during your downtime :P
I personally disagree. I do not own it nor will I ever own it personally but this is an mmorpg. Not everyone will have everything. People who play the game a lot and have nothing else in the game to do makes it a great goal. There will always be in every single mmorpg these armors or weapons that a small percentage of the players will have. If you want it you have to earn it, yes you’ll need to farm a lot of events for gold or play the trading post or get lucky with drops. But that’s the game.
Sure. IF IT WAS STILL AVAILABLE FOR A DROP. Which it is not. It was for one event, and one event only, and has never since been re-released. A VERY limited number of people got them. And MAY I remind you that you cannot sell Ascended gear. So even those who have it, cannot make to sell it. Just in case you did not know.
I would honestly like to see this return. I don’t mind working for it, I do mind not having any way to obtain it other than forking out obscene amounts of gold for the recipes.
And +100 on the jewelry!
Probably right, Wanze, but would still like to know if this is “on the table”. Cause I agree. This is a fine set to have, but not at the cost of almost 3 k gold for just the recipes. And that’s not the weapons included. Just the armour.
Assuming you actually have alts on which using it, it is a cool item…if all of your characters are 80, that’s another matter…
Yeah… kinda my problem. Did the story once back when it was all new and shiny. Did not really find it enthralling enough to do it again. Well, not until I was asked to help a few guildies though and I figured may get the full rewards for it.
Story was still not very… well, gripping, and the strange reward made me pause for a moment.
Ah well, better than a frontal lobotomy.
Sorry if I miss something here, and if I may have missed it somewhere else on the forum as the search only gave one result, which had nothing to do with what I am looking for, BUT; can someone please explain the rationale behind a level 18 exotic once you finish the personal story?
I am not sure I am fully grasping this.
I stopped banging my face against that wall. Its hard and its got an imprint of a fool on it. Nah, I will wait until something is done. And its sad, because Fractals are likely my favorite thing in the game to do. I really enjoy it… I just REALLY don’t like the let down in the end
Still a tiny bit of room for more Fuzzies;)
Still room for more Fuzz;)
OMG! Anet! Huge WIN! This year was awesome! Its so funny! I can’t stop running around!
I would love my cuddlyfluffy to stand upright instead of hunched.
NUUUU!!!! Charr’s are awesome, because they are different! just a little TLC on the design side would be fine! Don’t hurt my boyzes backs and put them into medical devices to make em straight! Where is the tolerance? Where is the respect for differences! Don’t be bias or a bigot, love Charr the way they are! They were born that way, its not their fault!
*sniff…. I need a tissue.
lol, ok, fun aside, I would actually really like to see some attention given to Charr armour. Not a lot, but a little goes a long way. Tail holes… such a small thing… you have no idea how much that would mean to me though. To all us Charrs.
I am afraid you were in the wrong, Archie. Not because you were running support, but because you did not have the AR for the fight.
That’s on you, not the group. Its like going into AC with a level 25 and ranting when the group kicks you. There is no difference here. Get your AR to the suitable level where you can actually safely help your group, as appose to chose one: “Die while supporting group, or live and whats group die.”
No, sorry Archie, you compromised your group, but not for the reason you were stating. Don’t blame the meta for this one. Own up to your own mistakes.
