40 laurels (over a month to get 40) + 50 ecto is rather stupid. WTF are they thinking? Over a month to get a ascended accessory and you have to spend ectos which people are most likely saving for upgrading ascended backpiece/mystic forge unique weapons/legendarys. Yeah, this game isn’t grindy at all.
Yeah RNG is awesome especially when you put 4 ruby orbs in the mystic toilet and get a ruby orb out. SWEET!
I wonder what happened to the mini dungeons below the WvW maps, unless they just meant the EB JP. I thought I read somewhere, pre-launch, that there were underground dungeons that connected to keeps and they were an alternative way to attack a keep or something.
I expect significant improvements to the Ranger class.
I snorted at my own jest – woe is me.
Is this the guild wars 2 jokes thread?
Broken guild missions. I mean what was this thread about?
Necro’s good at crowd control (fears, chill, immobilize, cripple depending on weapon set), which is why I think I’m getting used to thieves. “Oh, that’s cute, you’re trying to get behind me to stab me for 7k, nope! Eat some marks.”
Stealth is still OP though in its current state. Whether or not that’s because of culling is yet to be determined if they actually ever fix culling.
Here we go again…
I actually didn’t have any problems last night against thieves. Its either YB thieves suck or I am getting used to fighting them.
Well, this is definitely a different post – hearing about the experience from the other side (the thief side). Regardless, this will end up in linksville just like the other thief post. I agree with your post though.
Er, yeah… I just woke up and, this… Score update or something. ::sigh::
I should log on before heading to work and check if FA has blue keep and langor gulch tower so I can grab those POIs, lol…I’ve checked EB when I get on WvW but DB EB keep hasn’t been ours at night and we don’t seem to go for it till way later. I hate map completion in WvW but its just bothering me not to have it done.
Lol, your Norn looks drunk in that screenshot kinda.
It was rather interesting tonight on YB’s BL. YB had Victor’s Lodge all sieged up. My guildies and I saw 2 trebs, a golem, I think ballista or catapaults and a crapton of flame rams. It was like fighting Maguuuma with the amount of flame rams present. I guess they really didn’t want to lose that camp. YB has some decent zerg groups as well.
This is going to be a cycle that repeats itself. Couple of months later SOR will be the victim of this cycle if they can’t break 3rd place.
Then there’s us tier 3/4 servers that are ok being at that tier. Its truly amazing how different each tier’s attitude on their tier placement is.
It is way too costly to keep hopping around to win. It’s roughly 35 gold or $25 to transfer which makes multiple transfers in a short period of time seem unlikely.
Good point. This was not always true though. Paid transfers just occurred recently. Before then, who knows how many times guilds transferred. That’s why I was asking/guessing. I am hoping my guess was wrong of course. Fair weather fans are never a good thing.
I just hope these SoS transfers don’t flee BG if BG ever does poorly. It seems that quite a few SoS guilds have left, but I haven’t seen this happen to JQ, BG, Kain, etc. Those servers gained guilds, not lost. That’s why I asked how many of the guilds that are transferring now were transfers to SoS when they were #1 vs how many of those guilds transferring now were on SoS at launch. My guess is the ones transferring now were not on SoS at launch and just transfer around to the server that they think will be victorious server at the time.
Exception – I’m fairly positive MERC was always on SoS but with Jedahs leaving GW2, I get the feeling it was kinda Jedahs that kept MERC on SoS, but since he’s gone, this is what happens.

“While we would like to add new maps to the game at some point, creating maps is our most labor intensive process and WvW maps take quite a lot more effort to build than any other type of map so we’re exploring some other avenues to create new gameplay opportunites until we have enough time to properly build and test any new maps.”
How is 3 of the 4 WvW maps being copy-pastas of each other with each section being named differently labor intensive? It must be hard renaming a tower redbriar from greenbriar. ><
If you guys (BG and Kai) love us TC so much then please stomp FA for us. <3
If you guys love us, do what Sam said. FA have spilled blood of sacred levels, defiled the corpses of animals very dear to us, and…
I would consider it a personal favour if you all did this …
Hey now. We just enjoy our dolyak burgers! Can you blame us?!
You’re the exception. Nobody is allowed to kill Magi.
Haha.
To BG, I wish you luck when you make it back to tier 1 – I’ve always enjoyed you guys since the days of BG being in tier 1 when I was there (formerly JQ) and I enjoyed you guys during FA’s 1 week in tier 2 a few weeks ago. Shake it up a bit up there. Give my former server good competition when you get there. Most of all, have fun!

So much for SoS’er’s server pride. :P
How many SoS guilds transferring now were transfers to SoS as opposed to guilds that had been there since launch?
Interesting weeks up ahead for sure. Get ready to bend over fellow FA’ers (I kid, I kid).
True. There is that way of looking at it. It will also be interesting to see what happens to SoS with the amount of guilds transferring off that server recently.
Looks like we may be in tier 2 next week. Not sure I’m looking forward to that. Two powerhouse servers (BG and Kain) vs us. I know its still early to determine but we have a decent amount of points ahead of TC now…
Too bad most legendaries look pretty crappy. The mystic forge uniques look better. The only legendary I really care about is the dreamer on my ranger for lols. The legendary rifle and bolt are pretty cool. Twilight is ok. The rest is just meh. The mace I can’t take seriously, especially since each hit makes fireworks sounds.
Out of the mystic forge uniques, there’s a crapton that look better:
All the mists themed weapons (vision of the mists, spirit links, abyssal scepter, etc etc)
Jormag’s breath
Foefire’s essence
The Anomaly
Volcanus
I think people’s definition of what a “zerg” is changes from post to post and conversation to conversation. From what I understand of what a “zerg” is:
1. Any group of players that has more people than you.
2. Any group of players that has more numbers and kills you.
3. A large amount of players.
4. A large amount of players moving around together.
5. A large amount of players that has more people than you and moving together.
6. An unorganized group of a large amount of players that has more players than you.
7. A title to indicate a save-face term that helps you feel better when you die to a large number of players that outnumber you and have more people than you that move around in either a coordinated or uncoordinated fashion which always implies your death was to a bunch of zerging unskilled people.
8. A bunch of people on your screen because you can’t count.Basically, that is what a zerg is, from what I have read over the years of gaming. It always changes from person to person.
A zerg can zerg a zerg and move better than another zerg while being zerged by a zerg and defeat a zerg in a coordinated better zerg. And if you get zerged its because a zerg is bad and you are better because a zerg is always bad but because you die its not your faults its because of a zerg.
So you can feel better dying to zergs because you are better because you are not in a zerg when you get zerged. Unless it is a coordinated zerg that meant to zerg.
Make sense?
Dang, and I thought a zerg referred to anthropodal aliens.
Straegen.2938Some servers simply do not have a large population of WvW players during specific time frames. I am sure FA complains about being outnumbered for various parts of the day as well. It is completely understandable as few if any like to be run over time and time again by sheer numbers. I suggest treating the posts as venting frustration rather than whining.
Sure are plenty of them out there when we’re winning.
Some of us play wvwvw at hours different than your own =(
I’ve never seen the salad updater in person =(
I’ve seen Eva’s Norn in person, even had a score update screenshot with her – it was fun times.

Goodbye Magruuuumba (closest thing to Macgruber I could think of).
I’m pretty sure you all spend too much time arguing and not enough time putting golems on supply depots.
lol
Don’t tell me that Mag has turned to the Great Lord Alpha & Omega Siege Golem now instead of the Great Lord Flame Ram xD
Those are guard golems for the ram lord, kind of like the dog statues on Ghost Busters.
Hahahaha, great reference sir.
Are these missions in special sections of the map or in instanced areas? The locations in the video aside from the part with the karka did not look familiar. I ask because if they are a part of the persistent world in the middle of existing parts of the map, what will prevent these guild missions from breaking like persistent world events do on a regular basis, some of which have been breaking and not progressing since launch…
Its great that you guys want to add things to the game, but I’d rather see fixes to the game (fix to culling, class balancing, etc) or features that people had been asking for over completely new content. That may just be me though.
I just noticed fractal weapons don’t have attributes or anything slotted into the upgrade slot. Why not just make them weapon skins you can apply to another weapon, similar to the Wintersday weapon skins and HoM skins? If you (ANet) are going to just make weapon skins to transmute to, why don’t you do this with all skins and allow us to put them in a collection tab in our bank so players could collect all the skins if they want to instead of having to fill up their bank with multiple weapons to have different skins. I wouldn’t mind being able to unlock a skin and use it as many times as I want. If its because players wouldn’t spend money on the fine transmutation stones, fine, then make a item that can be bought in the gem store that allows us to make a copy of a weapon or armor as a collectible skin. PvP has a locker, would be cool if we could collect skins in PvE.
I’m sure there’s been several posts about this, so making this one probably won’t have any effect. Might as well try though.
I would be happy if FA went to tier 2 but I am afraid we are stuck with them for a while. But even if they move up and TC moved down to join us it will be pretty much the same deal. Same goes for you guys, if you move down to tier 4 you will dominate and the match will get stale. Both DB and Mag are in a pretty crappy spot. Overpowered servers above us and underpowered below.
Do what we did. Join forces and create Maguumabrand.
Or Draguuma.
The EB JP is actually pretty easy to get through, at least on the tier I’m in. If you’re having trouble, just use the stealth fountains. There’s 3 of them. Ofc, that screws you for the dark room, but eh, most people won’t attack in the dark room since they’re also using torches to get through…at least in my experience. You can also use the stealth fountains + mad king’s back piece as your light source, that way you won’t have to remove the stealth to get thru the dark room.
Anti stealth skill for some classes, like Ranger get single player see stealthed players for 30sec and Engineer get AOE skill so everyone around him se stealtehd players for 10sec that i would like.
Rangers should then also have a skill that break stealth, they shoot shoot 1 on a stealthed player and everyone see him.
Yea and Eles should get an ability that removes ranger pets for 30 seconds. Necros could get an ability that locks eles into one element for 30 seconds. Wars should be able to make mesmers not be able to clone and maybe Guardians should get an instant AoE that destroys all engineer equipment in a 1200 radius.
Not to be offtopic, but WoW had stealth detection for hunters – it was called hunter’s mark or something. Did that break rogues/deter people from playing rogues? No. Get over yourself. Man, thieves sure are entitled and whiny.
So last night I got finished by what seemed like a remote/distanced finishing move (which I know doesn’t exist). I didn’t see any thief go into stealth near me, so I have no clue what it was. It could have been a thief that had been already stealthed or another class that I couldn’t see due to this awesome culling. Anyone else ever experience this? Usually when I get ‘blind’ finished a thief stealths on me basically then finishes me.
Well, in my case, I sometimes run with my guild in a group of 5. Currently, attacking a camp which you can’t really ninja since you have to attack the supervisor, can very well get the attention of a zerg if the other team so desires to send a zerg. 5 people vs 20+ is no contest. If they increased the orange sword limit to even 10, then we could quietly take camps and move on before another small party or zerg realizes what’s happening. I like running in small groups, taking camps and at times towers. I welcome this change for situations such as this or scouting. I’m not saying increasing the amount of players to trigger orange swords would improve this, but it probably will not hurt either. Yes, camps are rather easy to take for a small group currently, but there’s been times where (thanks to orange swords), a zerg has rolled over the small group I’m in.
Of course, the other side of this is if people see white swords at a camp, they won’t know how many people are over there and will end up sending a zerg anyways. Making white swords trigger on x many people would be a bad idea though.
I can see where this change could be bad, but for some reason, I see more good than bad out of it.
Fun fights last night against EA and Krew at the bluewater camp and bluelake tower on Mags BL.
I think 25 is a little too high, as 25 players can quickly take down a gate. 15 is a better number.
I agree, 15 would be a decent number. 15 people is hardly a zerg.
In this topic – thieves telling others to L2P because there’s a lot of players that cannot combat a broken mechanic (stealth) buffed by a broken game engine aspect (culling).
Not in this topic – 90% of thieves admitting to the fact stealth is a broken mechanic, people NOT comparing sPvP to WvWvW (which really needs to stop, sPvP has way less people in it), and people saying guardian/ranger/necro is OP.
Did I miss anything?
Mesmers and Elementalists are also OP.
Other than that, you’ve pretty much covered it.
That’s why the mesmers and elementalists were in the “not in this topic” section. ;P While not as stupid OP as thieves, they are still pretty powerful, but its a powerful I can accept because I can see them 100% of the time for the most part and they actually have to spec their traits and wear the right armor to be resilient. Thieves get a free ‘resilience’ card, its called near-perma stealth, which is why they can get away with wearing glass cannon sets (I know third time I’m saying that, but really trying to drive that point, which most people fail to realize).
You will never see someone say to a thief “wear PVT” to 1v1 another class. But for all other classes vs thief, there’s been plenty of “wear PVT” in this thread alone. Unbalanced much?
Mesmers, elementalists, etc don’t have a broken stealth mechanic that’s further broken by culling. Yeah mesmers have stealth too, but it can’t be used as often as thieves’ AFAIK. Not able to kill something because they know how to play their class well or because they are stacked with defensive attributes/traits (defensive eles for instance) is a lot different than not being able to kill something you can’t see. Again, thieves can wear w/e armor they want due to stealth. Every other class has to have PVT/defensive traits to survive that well. That’s unbalanced.
(edited by Moderator)
This actually sounds nice. Now someone accidentally hitting their skill while targeting a gate won’t trigger orange swords when the small group is trying to be silent. This is a step towards smaller groups becoming more of a threat in WvW, as opposed to everyone just zerging all over the place.
My favorite thing about all this, thieves can go whatever armor set they want and still be hard to kill because of the broken stealth mechanic. Every other class needs to stack PVT if they wanna be tanky in WvW. If that isn’t unbalanced, I don’t know what is. People pro thief have said numerous times in this thread “get PVT gear” yet the thief gets to wear whatever they want. Those D/D eles, they survive because they probably have a trait build that allows for that and has armor that allows for that. Thieves can wear zerker gear, and be as hard to kill as someone in full PVT items. Yep, stealth is not a broken mechanic at all. ANet, learn from mistakes of past MMOs and fix this crap…..owait, this MMO is like we’re in 2006 where mass grind was ok and pvp had balance issues all over the place (even WoW fixed the balance issues rogues had) – this is 2013 though, get with the times.

Culling due to 8 people? Yeah, I don’t buy that.
Teamkiller, did you even read Erinshaw’s post? There were 8 people there all using AoE and they couldn’t detect him. How does that have anything to do with your 2 points? Its not hard to avoid blindly placed AoE circles – blindly placed because those 8 people had no clue where the stealthed thief was. That has nothing to do with thief mechanics….
Ok, fair enough Harbinger. I do run PVT on my necro, and while 1 burst set does not down me, it does get me to around 50% hp. I don’t generally have that many problems with thieves on my necro, except when 2 catch me off guard and 2v1 me, which is somewhat hard to combat, especially if you’re caught off guard. That being said, I still think the stealth mechanic needs to be reviewed in some form, because it is broken, and obviously the amount of people agreeing with it being broken (even some thieves), it does prove it needs some reworking. In 1v1, thieves are probably the more powerful class, because of how often they can stealth. Take that as you will, but that’s my opinion and apparently many other players’ opinions. I guess we all need to “learn to play” (kinda getting tired of that argument really).
I know of the stunlocking you’re talking about. I see little difference, however, when thieves hit a few skills and bring down an opponent’s whole HP bar from stealth. Instead of stunlocking from 100 to 0, you stealth attacked from 100 to 0. So I guess every person saying that stealth in this game is a broken mechanic is wrong? Oh hey, you play a thief, of course you don’t think its broken. 90% of thieves say its not broken.
So you’re ok with going toe to toe with your opponent when they have to make an educated guess on 1) if you are running away or preparing an attack or 2) where you are going to attack from (usually the backside)?
Fair enough. The point I was trying to make though is that its way easier for thieves to stealth mid-combat in this game than any other game. Fine, I was wrong, forgot about vanish, sue me. My point still remains, however. What was cooldown on vanish? 12 seconds? Yeah, didn’t think so.
@Sureshot – that’s great. Vanish was the ONLY way WoW rogues could stealth mid-combat. GW2 thieves have this ability via multiple skills mid-combat every 12 seconds. Huge difference. Maybe you should get your facts straight as well. Vanish was mostly used as a escape mechanic, not an offensive mechanic. GW2 stealth is used for both offensive and defensive.
“If you are going to make an argument based on previous games you better at least know how they worked otherwise you just look silly.”

Oh look another probably thief player calling everyone noob that can’t kill thieves, instead of providing any good tips against thieves. Zzzzzzzzzz…
I hope you ate not referring to me as I spelled it out for you. If so I will not feed the trolls good luck.
Also, note my main is a warrior which has no problem dealing with thieves. my next char is a guardian again no problem, and my other alt is a ranger….and wow again not an issue to fight a thief. Re-read my post and if you still can’t learn to adjust your fighting dependent on each class you fight I suggest uninstalling immediately
Ok, I’ll play this game.
“Honestly this thread sounds like a bunch of hurt kids crying because……etc etc” – Not very helpful.
“Thieves are not op…yes culling allows them to not render but bind a closest target and boom there they are” – target closest has been broken since day 1, it doesn’t always target the mob closest to you, most of the time, not all the time
“Next PTV gear it’s not a suggestion…you are no help if you are dead so lose the noob zerk gear” – using the word ‘noob’ isn’t very helpful – PTV gear does help, you’re right, but armor is easy to get, a little helpful
“Finally learn your class you have skills/utilities/ traits that will reflect damage, break stuns, and cc your opponents. A great one is pain inverter that will melt a thief. PS true perma stealth thieves do crap for damage.” – now we’re talking, but pain inverter is available to asura only (so I guess we should all re-roll Asura). I play a necro in WvW, we don’t have reflect or confusion, we have a couple stun breaks just like every class. We do have a nice axe skill that applies retaliation, however. Obv, necros have CCs too.
I actually don’t have that many problems on my necro with thieves, I’m just agreeing with people in this thread that the stealth mechanic is broken, which it is.
I guess everyone in this thread that also says the stealth mechanic is broken in this thread should also uninstall. Good advice sir.
Stealth in any PvP game is just a bad idea on so many levels. I wonder when game developers will figure out stealth can not ever be balanced ? It’s either to powerful or totally useless and causes nothing but problems for both themselves and their customers / players.
I guess Arenanet is behind the times when it comes to MMOs. They’ve shown quite a few times that they haven’t learned from mistakes other MMOs made early on. Its ok though because Arenanet is new to the MMO market right?
Oh look another probably thief player calling everyone noob that can’t kill thieves, instead of providing any good tips against thieves. Zzzzzzzzzz…
A proper proposal to fix the problems with thieves in my opinion would be that not only does outgoing damage break stealth, but also incoming damage breaks stealth.
stealth breaking on damage taken would just kill the thieves.
i still believe the best solution is to apply revealed debuff every time they come out of stealth.
Really? How do you think other games’ thiefs/rogues cope? They can’t stealth mid-combat and if they can, damage breaks it. This is a weak argument. A very weak argument. Try again please.
Your quote should be “stealth breaking on damage taken would make thieves actually learn to play well without facerolling their keyboards” but I guess that would kill most players, because no skill people want easy wins.
(edited by Magiofdeath.2745)
why are you even trying to compare the two?
Because a large majority of thieves are played by morons and will try to find anything to prove their class mechanic isn’t BS. Next up: thieves will say bear ranger pets are more OP than the thief class.
Make thief like every other MMO, don’t allow stealthing in combat. What? Other MMOS’ rogue/thief classes are fine without having to stealth mid-combat every 12 secs? OMG! GW1’s assassin was a powerhouse and good at PvE and PvP and wait for it, wait for it – didn’t need stealth mid-combat every 12 secs to be good. GW2’s thief is crap compared to GW1’s assassin and every other games’ thief/rogue class.
