Yeah .. i also bought the 100 € version, and have spent maybe 4-5 hours max in the
new areas, and have absolutely no interest to go there ever again.

Serious question. Do you really think you have given the new areas a fair shake if that’s all the time you have spent there?

There seems to be a significant contingent of players (and you may or may not be in this category) that want everything to be exactly as it was, with little willingness to even attempt to adapt to the new content. I find it challenging, but it also feels more rewarding when I succeed at something. Sometimes I get caught unprepared for a fight and get demolished, even by normal mobs, but there have also been amazing moments where I truly felt I had done something awesome.

I understand if people find navigating a challenge, especially at first, or are taken aback when they get destroyed by a group of enemies when we have gotten so accustomed to most not posing a threat, or can’t solo some of the hero points. What I don’t get is the number of people that seem to have dipped their toe into the water, declared it too hard, and decided they have had enough. I wonder how many of those people, if they give it a bit longer, might grow to like it.

I’m with Beldin. I spent a little more time in the jungle than he, but it certainly won’t be more than 10 hours.

I don’t find it too challenging. I completed VB without breaking a sweat, and was very close to completing AB. And suddenly it struck me. I wasn’t having fun.

The emphasis on navigation? Boring at best, annoying the rest of the time. It doesn’t challenge me, it wastes my time. The emptiness of the maps and the map change request every 15 minutes, that can only be remedied with wasting time on the LFG tool? Beyond annoying, crossing right into the insufferable. Every map running on the real-life clock? Not a chance. That’s not how I play games. And what’s there to motivate me to stick with it? Dreadful weapon and armor skins I wouldn’t buy for 2 coppers, all hidden behind collections that require rubbish minigames and endless repetitions of content I have to synchronize my watch for?

The new content is an atrocity, its only redeeming feature the terrain aesthetics, and that’s not enough to keep me around.

Instead, I’ll just play the parts of the game I do like, and will be vocal about how I hate HoT on these forums until someone stops me.

I will teach you the secret steps to joining a good DS map. Listen carefully because any little mistake can ruin your chances of executing this complex technique.

1. Be in a DS map when the timer is between 1h45 and 2h.
2. Open LFG.
3. Join any one of the 10 parties that say “DS taxi” or something similar.
4. Right click your party member’s icon and click Join in their map.

I know this sounds hard, but if you manage to follow these steps, I guarantee you will find yourself in a successful DS map. Good luck.

So you have to be there in an exact 15 minute window of a 2 hour cycle?

Why did anyone think this was a good idea?

I’ve noticed that the “Looking For Group” system is being abused on a grand scale.

Many people use it for a completely different purpose than to find a group of others to form a party with in order to pursue a common goal in the game.

People use it to find map instances. I know, it’s disgusting behavior! What drives these people? Have they no shame? I’d report them all if it wasn’t so widespread; I’d be reporting people all day, I don’t have the time for that.

I talked to a few of them, and they told me they do it because the game doesn’t have a good map selection system. Well, of course, exploiters always have an excuse ready. It’s intolerable. Something needs to be done about this.

Addressing forum complain is not possible because forum literally complain about every single thing in GW2 and every changes no matter good or bad.

Yes Anet made design change and it’s good decision, old maps are boring and brainless. New maps are challenging and fun if you want casual content core tyria offers plenty.

So your advice to casual players is not to buy expansions?

Casual, solo players who don’t want content that’s challenging, yeah, I think they’d be disappointed with the expansion.

But not every casual player demands to be a solo player and not every casual player demands content you can beat while watching Game of Thrones on your other monitor.

But very few casual players would be clamouring for a game you have to synchronize your watch with and that demands you to play multiple straight hours to get anywhere.

When every aspect of the expansionis so extreme as to likely scare off some players, the totally of those aspects is likely to scare off many players.

That’s crap. First of all you don’t have to synchronize your watch for most things. I have a ton of casual players in my guild who haven’t even figured out there is a meta yet, and most of them are having a good time. They run some events, they get some loot. That’s what a lot of casual players do.

Hint, most casuals don’t haunt forums. They don’t follow development cycles. They run around and do stuff. That’s their game.

I have a guild filled with casual players. It’s a real education sometimes.

You appear to be talking about players who are casual about what happens in the game.

I’m talking about players who are casual about when they game, but who are very involved with the game when they do.

You’re reading me wrong.

What my post is saying is that to certain people, regardless of their number, it is a fact that the game causes scheduling problems. These problems do exist. They are not a subjective opinion. The quantifier isn’t the fact. The existence of the problem is the irrefutable fact.

Manasa Devi.7958

  1. People in general have a thing about being right.
  2. It’s common for people to project their own thoughts and feelings onto others. This happens anywhere people interact with others.
  3. In discussions, people tend to want to make their opinions real by generating agreement from others. When others don’t agree, they’re generally considered to be wrong. See #1. Defaming others who differ is is part of the process of generating agreement. It’s kind of a shameful part when it degenerates to pejoratives, but some don’t choose to put worth reasoned arguments, or add the pejoratives to the arguments for a little extra zing.
  4. Examining one’s own assumptions critically is something people have to be trained to do or train themselves to do. It does not come naturally. Again, see #1.

This is all pretty basic psychology.

That said, a game is for enjoyment. There is no right or wrong in terms of what people enjoy. They will still try to generate agreement about what they want being (obviously) the best course for the game, though.

Fwiw, I also think that ANet is trying to provide something for everyone. However, they’re also trying to stick to a vision they have for the game. They’ve been pretty consistent about it, tbh, while still trying to cater to diverse gamer demographics.

It’s possible that some players will expand their horizons by trying stuff outside their comfort zones. ANet certainly hopes so, with all the incentives in the form of virtual rewards tied to multiple game modes and things to do within modes they throw out there. Others won’t though. Since games are a matter of enjoyment, that’s their prerogative.

There’s no subjectivity to the criticism that event cycles of 2 hours are awkward verging on the impossible for many people to deal with. It is a fact. This is so far my only substantial criticism, and it killed the expansion for me. I’ve stopped going to HoT areas until something about that changes.

When you’re in the game, adapting to new things you encounter is a natural thing. We do that all the time, we often don’t notice because we’re enjoying ourselves. Whenever we encounter a new creature, with new skills and new patterns, we adapt and kill it.

Having to adapt our real-life “activity cycles” to synch up with those present in HoT? That’s way more demanding than any game can permit itself without losing players. They’ve lost my presence in the new areas for now, and I cannot in good conscience continue to talk positively about this game in real life. They turned me into a detractor.

HoT maps getting empty ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Manasa Devi.7958

Manasa Devi.7958

I keep a pretty close eye on the LFG tool and I can tell you that the postings very greatly between time periods.

The new maps are designed more along the lines of a boss fight with a set time schedule. Being on at the exact right time means the difference between playing or not playing the content you want and thus gives the disconnect of many players feeling the maps are empty all the time.

And that is the issue I am facing. So, what should I do? Change my sleep pattern? Quit my job?

Yeah, this is going to be even more horrible when fewer and fewer players access the HoT maps, regardless of time period.

Couple these issues with the absolute destruction of WvW, then I really so no reason to continue playing. I regret purchasing HoT. I really do.

Since it’s too late to vote with your wallet, vote with your absence from the offending areas. That’s what I’m doing. If we let them bleed out faster, the problems will become more apparent and more urgent.

That wouldn’t be a problem if the game had enough content left for me as a veteran to make the process enjoyable. GW core has been thoroughly chewed out. HoT offers hardly anything at all.

This precursor crafting arrived too late. Had it been in the game from the start, it would’ve been fine. Now? It’s like asking people to participate in a hot-dog eating contest right after they’ve stuffed themselves on a copious christmas dinner.

This thread isnt about lack of content for veterans its about semi casuals not being able to afford the wood needed within a week to craft a precursor.

The two are related, obviously. If there was new stuff to do in low level areas, low level materials would be harvested in much, much larger numbers.

If you can’t plan around that, then I think you might have bigger problems than working with a video game timetable.

Of course I could plan around it. It’s just that I won’t. Because it’s the height of insanity that I should. It’s a bloody game. It’s light entertainment. It’s something I do leisurely.

Who are you to say what people can and cannot do with their given time? If you don’t want to take a game seriously enough to adapt to its functionality, then the correct course of action is to simply stop playing it. Just like how you don’t have to cater to the game’s schedule, the game does not have to cater to your schedule either. Instead of demanding what you want on a silver platter, go find something better suited for your time. You might be surprised to find that your problem will be solved.

Jeez man, get off it. I haven’t told anyone what to do with their time, unlike what you’re doing here. Hypocritical much?

I am in fact not playing HoT, because it’s rubbish. I will post about it though, as often and as critically as I see fit.

You’re literally calling people who devote more time to video games than you “freaks”.

This is not true.

It’s pretty insulting, and completely uncalled for.

That it would be, if it were true.

You’re also complaining about something that should not and will not change. It’s wasted energy over something that isn’t a problem. Go somewhere else, because nobody else here wants to read it.

Well, avoid my posts then because I haven’t even started yet. I’ll be back every day, for more of the same, until something changes. It takes mere minutes of time I couldn’t spend more productively if I wanted, being sat behind a PC anyway, and the result is entertaining. Every response I elicit helps keep the monster alive. Thanks for contributing.

Ah, fair point.

Oh and a clarification for my post (nothing to do with what you said Manasa): I realize SW already has a few cooldowns. They are, however, visible and not that long.

Those cooldowns actually have a point. The one between the breach and Vinewrath is very short and allows people to get themselves where they need to be and communicate a little to make sure all lanes are populated. The second one is actually a functioning phase by itself: the labyrinth. (That no one still plays because of map hopping and chest running being the more lucrative options.)

Game designers are taught to ignore poor reviews in favor of long-term goals. Unfortunately, THIS breakage will not be fixed by time. Couple that with denial and it’s a recipe for disaster.

With what they did to the main game, and (to their knowledge) shifted the good stuff to HoT, I can’t see how they can save themselves without a hugely humble perspective. They really REALLY screwed up with this one. But, it’s part of a much larger pattern of thinking. I’m not even sure they are capable of realizing how badly they have damaged the game.

I’ve been playing GW for 10 years, and I’ve had my ups and downs with how they do business. But, this one seems different. It’s almost like they’ve forgotten who they are and why they have been so successful over the years.

For the first time since the magic find debacle, I’m having a hard time bringing myself to play the game. But, this time it’s not because I’m angry. This time it’s deeper. I have a profound sadness at the direction the game seems to be going. I don’t know how to overcome it. And, unless they change what appear to be fundamental pillars of their new model, I’m not sure I even can change my heart towards the game.

:(

It’s too late to vote with our wallet. We bought the sucker.

I’m doing the next best thing: I’m voting with my absence from the HoT areas until they stop being unwelcoming.
