Looks good to me, but I think it would be some distance behind a condition spec in damage output for most situations not all of course.
I disagree :P
I think our damage is fine that said I’d rather my pet did a smaller percentage of our total damage than it is currently, I can’t even get near the crits my Jaguar is capable of the only skill that actually does big numbers is greatsword maul if you put on your berserker suit but even then my cat puts me to shame.
I’ve had it happen a few times, I think it’s when I’ve had one pet die in either water or on land and after changing terrain the wrong pet will be dead.
Each to their own and I just didn’t want anyone to get it without knowing and get terribly disapointed like me.
You’re perfectly within your right to be upset, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Personally, I bought the Quiver and I’m lucky enough that it looks perfect on my Character and I’m very happy with it. It does however, need to be patched for people with your issue, for $20G/$8 it should look better then it does on your character.
I’m wondering if maybe it’s just the armor you’re wearing? I’m playing a Sylvari with a Duelist Coat and it looks really good with that. Is there any other Armor Coat you like? Maybe transmuting your coat will fix it.
It’s not really the armor itself it’s the idle movements female humans do although like I said before bigger coats shoulder armor etc cover more area making it slightly less apperant the quiver is floating in midair very far away from the body, thing is most armor looks kitten too and fits really poorly aswell I’m really picky on these and I like T2, T3 and the AC chest precisely because they are slim fit and it looks much worse while wearing those.
I wish they would make is slightly smaller and position it a little more like the acended quiver it would help alot I think.
Whip main hand.
Torch main hand.
Beehive off hand.(I am serious.LOL)
Beehive isn’t really a weapon although it could be a utility skill to summon a swarm of bees on your foe
I’d actually enjoy the video more if the fights weren’t speeded up.
Agreed, I was also almost about to complain about the kittenty music but then it picked up and made me think of the 80s wich was an awesome decade.
GJ and keep the videos coming
Power+crit specs are better in groups for the reasons you mentioned bleeds cap at 25 stacks and most others only stack in duration basically a group of 5 condition specced people do the same condition damage as 2 condition specced people.
For the bleeds each stack runs on it’s own timer and does it’s own damage according to current condition damage stat, the duration is according to the skill used and can be modified by increased condition duration from traits, runes or sigils.
No conditions can crit.
Rox quiver looks good on my character . I am quite happy
Doesn’t look as bad there the problem is it doesn’t stay that way it flies out very very far from your body when she moves in idle and it looks terrible, big armor makes it somewhat better if you like that, I don’t however and your shoulders are equally oversized and poorly fitting along with many other pieces for human females in my opinion boots and gloves especially from that same set.
Each to their own and I just didn’t want anyone to get it without knowing and get terribly disapointed like me.
The Sigil breaks stun and removes ALL conditions, that’s why I use it nice passive condition removal overall and complete cleanse on demand when needed.
Cry more, really. I’d really like an ascended quiver for myself one day, but its costs in time and resources are akin to a mini-legendary. That is ridiculous for what should be the most basic piece of stowing equipment for a ranger. I just dropped for Rox’s quiver and slapped it on my exotic backpiece, wham bam thank you ma’m.
Are you talking to me? because well I actually payed 20g lose the ascended quiver I worked so hard to get for one that is floating about midair, very very stupid indeed and now you deny me my tears aswell!

Katanas (or any 1h sword for that matter) carried on your back would be so nice, hope that comes sometime.
Crossbows and greataxes are a great idea.
I think it would also be cool to see a slingshot and a 1 handed hammer.
There are slingshots already and maces are hammers no?
or are you thinking slingshot like this one?

The one with the highest armor actually idk how that functions in down I just know that some are like granite in downed state and some like warm butter, you’ll notice it even better in water where one ranger will always live until his pet rez is avalible and another just melts in a second or two so if armor isn’t still in effect then traits atleast are.
I want to caution a warning for people with female human characters before buying this quiver, I was looking forward greatly to getting this only to find this happens /cry
Yeah it looks kind of funny on my toon also. It’s wearing it way too high so the arrows are sticking above the head. It should be closer to the body and with the daggers/arrows lower.
I agree or rather it’s plain to big if you have a female human don’t know what race you play, also you can see how far out it floats around when idle on my screenshot it even gets worse than that one shows, this happened to the other quiver too but it wasn’t as annoying because it was both smaller and flat.
I go back to my old wish that each bow should come with it’s own quiver (just cosmetic) that way it could be designed to fit on your back together with a bow better and it would go away if no bow is equipped so it’s not blocking a big nice greatsword for example.
So I’ve been thinking for a while about new weapons and weapon combinations, post wich ones you’d like and/or wich ones are most likely to be added sometime in the future.
Here’s a few I’ve been thinking of and also seen others mention
- Whips – offhand weapons, npcs already have them and eles have lightning ones they should be easy to add.
- Nets – offhand weapons, could be a cool weapon mostly defensive but could have poisoned barbs and such in them.
- Spears – Mainhand weapons but could be also be a twohanded weapon for some classes and a nice thing would be spear+shield combo for warriors, this should also be fairly easy to add since they already exist for water combat.
- Greataxe – a little boring idea perhaps but I kind of miss twohanded axes, plus they always look nicer than the hammers.
- Crossbows – cause crossbows are cool and more fun than guns, shouldn’t be too hard to add either cause it could share many gun animations.
- Honey Badgers – I know what you are thinking, but but that’s a pet? no it isn’t a Honey badger is a fearless lethal weapon!
Well that’s a few anyway, share your ideas people

30% petcrit is much better if you’re running cats that crit all the time, it basically adds a 300-500 damage on their basic attack depending on the targets armor and obviously more on the big hits and ups the burst on petswap by alot, the bleed is nice that it hasn’t got an internal cooldown but even with high crit chance you’ll have periods where it falls off entirely anyway plus your increased bleed duration does nothing for the trait bleeds since it’s just a ridiculous 1s bleed it will never tick more than once for each proc.
Just had a look at the build keen edge is a terrible trait because it has a 6minute cd in combat and a 60s cd upon leaving combat unless this was changed in the patch, companions might is also terrible because it only adds 1might for 1s and only from your crits, somehow you managed to grab the terrible 1s traits, not your fault though they sound good until you hear it’s only 1s wich is frankly insulting imo.
Yeah, I couldn’t see the pet choice or I would have done some math on it. Is the pet shown in the build too he used? I couldn’t find it, and I’m very used to gw2skill.net lol.
No but he posted just below you saying he used 2 cats

Would also like to point out you only have 25% increased bleeds wich is not enough to give an extra tick from shortbow flanking bleeds you’ll need 33%+ for that so you should change 2 orbs for another 2set bonus to bleeds, getting 40% extra duration is a nice spot for you actually since it will also give 2extra ticks from each proc on the sigil of earth.
Another thing change the geomancy sigil on the melee weapon set you can’t use “on crit” sigils and “on weapon swap” sigils together because the “on crit” one will put the other on cd, get either a stacking one or a flat stat % one.

@Manekk, I am BM ( I use the build described on the 1st page of this thread) and use 2 cats in open PvE. Been running this build since after the March update.
Around 2 weeks ago I did Arah story to finish my ranger PS. I started with 2 cats, both were dead within seconds at the very first trash mob encounter. Had to swap one cat out for a devourer so I could have something up.
I tried bringing out the cat again, with the same results even on passive mode. The only section of the dungeon where it could stay up for any period was on the airship, so I to use the devourer for most of the dungeon. I did crap damage since the build is dependent on high DPS pets, and my bows are now pea-shooters.
Made it though the dungeon story ok, but mainly because of the other classes in the party. I wasn’t able to contribute very much in an easy dungeon story path. So, bringing this build and the cats into a anything more difficult is out of the question for me.
If you can keep your cats alive in CoE, then my hat goes off to you.
Haven’t done Arah in a long time, not at all on my second and new ranger actually and I don’t think I was BM in there on the first one so can’t comment but most dungeons work fine CoE too pretty sure I’ve gone through all encounters there without cats dying.
That said the parts that annoy me are the ones where you literally can’t do anything about them dying even while they are passive at your side and they do exist like the boss in HotW with the 2 quaggans his stupid aoe rains are so easy to avoid and yet my kitten pets very often just run straight into it even while passive and explode in a second that’s not just cats though I’ve had devourers on follow that run the opposite way from me straight into the poo and die.
It’s the thing that it’s almost like tossing a dice whether your pet makes it or not in some fights that kitten people off I think wich I both understand and concur with even if I do feel most fights work also with a cat aslong as you pay attention.
Have you compared it against greatsword? I’ve been doing some testing on berserker gear since greatsword gets better the higher your power and crit damage relative to other weapons. Its auto is subpar baseline so it needs a lot of compensation from how stats stack with it+Maul.
Common misconception. The only thing that differentiates weapons is their base damage output and any relevant traits, and whether they’re 1h or 2h. Greatsword does NOT scale better with power than any other weapon in terms of direct DPS. If you double your power, you double your damage. That’s true for any weapon since the damage formula is [weapon strength] x [power] x [skill coefficient] / [armor].
In terms of overall DPS, the greatsword is okay but it’s pretty far behind the Sword. It will always be about 20% less DPS than sword no matter what, even with the +5% greatsword damage trait. That means that if you’re dealing 5.3k before banners and spirit, you’ll get about 4.2k on GS. This actually isn’t as bad as it sounds since your pet’s DPS needs to be factored in too, so you’re looking 7k vs. 8.1k, which is about 14% less. I would still recommend the 1h sword if you can manage it but GS is also a viable option if the root is getting you killed in harder content.
Here are my numbers for calculations, as promised:
Power = 1095 from gear + 120 from ruby orbs + 100 from traits + 875 from might = 2190 power = *239% base damage*
Precision = 728 from gear + 300 + traits + 84 from orbs + 70 from food = +1182 precision = +56% crit chanceCrit chance = 4% base + 56% from precision + 5% from Sigil of Accuracy 20% from fury = 85% crit chance
Crit damage = 50% base + 62% from gear + 12% from orbs + 30% from traits + 10% from food = +154%
Crit modifier = [crit chance] x [crit damage] = *140%*Other boosts = 10% from Steady Focus + 10% from Hunter’s Tacts + 5% from Bountiful Hunting + 5% from Sigil of Force + 10% from mob-specific potion + 25% from vulnerability = *58.4%*
Damage: 202, 202, 235 over 1.8s = 355 base damage per second, multiply by all of the above and you get 5296 total.
He means some weapons do more or less of their damage in condition damage greatsword has a bleed but it does mostly physical damage, I think.
Am i the only one that hates the “search and rescue” change? making it reviving only downed allies makes this skill useless. This skill wasn’t reliable before, since the pet would just randomly decide to attack your target again instead of rezzing.
it was a lifesaver in high level fractals or the volcanic (and depending on team the dredge fractal). The pet wasnt always able to rezz someone all the way anyway, since it could die while doing so.
Let me recap the skill “search and rescue”:
-Rangers lose part of their dps
-Not reliable and doesnt always work
-Doesnt always rezz all the way and high chance for pet to die in the process
-long cd
-Since patch: Only rezzes downed players.i can accept the change they made..but not in it’s current state: Either reduce the Cd or give the pet protection and swiftness when you use the skill. or make it a long CD if the pet actually manages to rezz someone. If it doesn’t than give the skill a reduced cooldown. the changes that were made make the skill useless in dungeons/fractals now imo.
It says the changes are for the skill in pvp, I also am pretty sure they said it would continue rez players at half speed if the pet dies during the skills activation
lol @ the armor fish, I wish I was my armor fish
@bri pets might need some love for sure but it’s not like it can’t be done I run with double jaguars in dungeons and it’s actually only a few bossfights where you need to switch them in my experience and they very rarely die on me, it can work very well even with the squishiest of pets on most fights atleast if you are BM.
You’re not the only one Durzilla. :P
I try to stick to a simple baseline in stats – 1500 Condition Damage, at least 1500 in Power, Precision and Toughness, and at least 20k HP. Once I finish swapping out my current trinkets for ascended, I’ll make it no problem. You can also use food and oils to finish the gaps. This is what my stats look like.
Personally, if you’re going condition damage, go all in – as long as you hit those plateaus on your other stats.
Oh wtf! I’m so jelaous of your guild emblem why am i in a guild with a kittening pony for? >.<
First off, Rapid Fire is absolutely worthless. Don’t use it – I would even take it off of my tool bar if I could.
Why? Math.
I’m supplying the actual numbers from my ranger in-game as well, I can get screen shots later if need be to prove.Rapid Fire is a 5 second channel, doing 3,400 damage.
Auto attack has an animation time of 0.75 seconds, and with latency factored in fires once every 0.8 seconds for me and does 817 per shot at 1000+ range, 590 at 500-1000, and 454 at sub 500.
In the amount of time it takes to channel one Rapid Fire for 3,400 damage, you would have fired 6 shots from auto attack. (This is factoring in lag as well)
That equates to a total of 4,902 at 1000+, 3540 at 500-1000, and 2724 at sub 500.
That means auto attack is doing 142.5%, 104% and 80% of the damage of a Rapid Fire at the respective ranges. The only time you’re going to be doing more damage with Rapid Fire will be in the point that you should have either changed weapons, used your Point Blank Shot for its knockback, or turned and run from your target.
Don’t say that you use Quickening Zephyr to make your Rapid Fire shoot faster than your auto attack, either. The 50% increase affects everything, so your Long Range Shot would be getting the 50% increase as well.
It’s been tested and confirmed that longrange shot fires at 1,25 the tooltip is horribly wrong, that said I think it still out damages rapid fire at max distance.
No updates on many of the better “builds” and that saddens many – we’re trying to build a decent Ranger… not easy.
What are you looking for? there’s tons of builds posted everyday I find
I duelled a ranger with this setup yesterday, well something like this I can’t be sure exactly what he had only that it was a BM condition spec with high healing, came close to killing him a few times when we were sadly interupted by others (was in the eternal puzzle so pretty much inevitable I suppose) but ultimately ended up loosing the 2 we didn’t get interupted on, didn’t even bother switching to empathic bond would have been nice to see how that would have played out but he wouldn’t duel me again the kitten. :P
Here is my lv 15 Hunter with pet. This game is so awesome!!
Haha that’s a great screenie
Perhaps you’re really good at surviving then but you shouldn’t try to paint this spec as the result of it because it’s basically a squishie berserker spec with some extra health instead of crits.
This is a much better version of your spec in my opinion:
Changes are:
Signet of the Beastmaster trait as I can’t see why anyone would pick Signet of Stone without it.
Knights armor instead of Valkyrie to increase crit and armor.
The end result is an increase in effective power, effective health and damage reduction while also gaining a damage immunity, you’ll loose some percent in crit damage but it’s well worth the trade in my opinion.
(edited by Manekk.6981)
Pretty sure I know what it is, you haven’t chosen pets to use under water in the mists, try changing underwater pets and enter a game and I’m quite sure it will be fixed.
I hope they put more stuff in the gemstore frankly I don’t understand why they haven’t already it’s mostly bullkitten town clothes, who the hell buys that? stuff you can transmute to real armor will sell 10times better so from their perspective it’s certainly a good idea.
Oberon Vex
You do know that at 1500 range, you don’t need to dodge arrows, and can still outrun them with 25% run speed, right?
In fact, you can still outrun the longbow down to 1100, with 25% runspeed.
Even after changes.
Ok. I give up trying to convince you. You are obviously too closed-minded to even consider the build’s merits. You don’t agree with me? That’s just fine. You run what you want to run, I’ll run this. Because it works extremely well for me.
It’s true though… If I have sig of hunt on and you’re shooting at me all I need to do is half kitten strafe back and forth and the aiming kittens up because when you fire the skill it tracks as if you’re going to keep going in the direction I was at that same speed, changing that will cause it to miss.
Arrows need another movement Speed increase if you ask me…
PS: as this entire forum should know by now I use LB A LOT.
I think all arrows should fly like longbow 3, it’s much faster than other shots.
Also, for anyone confused: this spec is not glass cannon, please stop referring to it as such :/
I would say it is, your armor with this is very low the only diffrence is it has more health but that extra 5k health or what it was makes practically no diffrence without higher armor because it will just fly off you as soon as you get hit, and also the tone is a little harsh in here but just look past that because there are some flaws with this setup that people point out, sometimes balancing some stats is a good thing and some traits probably should be shifted to make it more survivable.
I would also say I personally value a higher crit chance over +crit% because the latter does zip unless you have the former.
The build has 47% crit chance, thats plenty
During fury sure but you don’t always have fury up, most of the time you don’t so it’s not quite accurate to count it like it was something permanent.
Someone tested it and I believe its 1.2k DPS or so from the pets.
You also don’t use them to hide behind, It’d be like going all Spirits on your ranger to “hide” behind things… Only you invested Multiple points into making them good.
a Minion Mancer is basically giving up a lot of utility and other abilities for something that doesn’t actually work.
Alright so it’s a substantial amount of damage anyway, I only just made one a few days ago I haven’t a clue what the minions did.
As for the hiding well might not be intentional but it actually works out that way sometimes atleast it takes a split second extra to find him, it can get pretty confusing if you lose your target when there are a few guys fighting 25 minions don’t make it better
O.O
The minions look absolutely nothing like the Necromancer. How in the world are you confused?
I’m not saying it like it is a problem or that I can be looking straight at them and not decide who is what you’re taking it the wrong way if that’s what you think I’m saying just that you can’t even see a kittenty little asura behind the minions sometimes, no offence to the rabbit people
I would also say I personally value a higher crit chance over +crit% because the latter does zip unless you have the former.
Highest attack power doesn’t necessarily equal highest damage though, then again I don’t think the Ranger is underpowered either it’s a good class that could certainly be improved in some places but it’s still a good class.
Someone tested it and I believe its 1.2k DPS or so from the pets.

I’m not defending the poor AI, because it is clearly poor but just out of curiosity how much damage does the Necro minions account for and how much is it meant to do?
Seems most just use them as a clusterkitten of minions to hide behind while dotting and fearing their target to me also.
Hi Choko,
Thanks for your post.
I can’t find any information on the web about divinity trinkets. What are those? What characteristics do they have?
He means divinity/celestial, the ones that have all stats and also +crit damage
I love this, it’s a really good regen for your pet and a decent one for you I never use it’s active not worth it for me to loose the pet survivability for so long for a short burst, maybe I’ll change my mind after this next patch though depending on how much health and armor is given to pets.
Manekk’s TAN spec is Tough As Nails!
This is what I use for roaming in 3Ws (because it’s fun and the zergs make me lag) or rather what I want it to be still missing the precision infusions for them but something like this is the plan anyway.
Tough as nails is a good description, both you and you cats are sturdy as hell, you got solid steady damage with great burst in your cats and if your signet or sigil fails to take care of any conditions you have exellent healing from your pet, runes and pies combined to take the edge off most of them, against weaker opponents you won’t even use your dedicated heal.
A small note on traits the obvious one you wouldn’t have to take is soften the fall I just like it and often find myself jumping cliffs to escape larger groups when I’m solo, the bonus is they surprisingly often follow you over the cliff without their class equivalent and subsequently die
I hope you enjoy if you decide to try it.
edit: I have reconsidered empathic bond and now use it over barkskin I didn’t like it because I felt it too easily got your pet killed but while using sigil of generosity and signet of renewal (passive cleanses both you and pet didn’t know this before) it just makes you really freaking resistant to conditions along with your already high armor.
(edited by Manekk.6981)
I think they are fixing mistform so that you can’t use utilities (heal included) while in it…
… may need to get a second opinion on that though. I remember a tad on that subject from the SOTG interview.
If I were to make as little change to this as possible it would be to remove the 5 points in NM and either get 10% damage on flanking or bleed on crit for your jaguar wich would also boost shark or devourer wich are imo the 3 best water pets I use double devourers for the stun and the poison the stun is just fantastic for catching victims in a piranha school followed by a quick poison field even tough opponents will melt in it.
The other thing I would like to change is the runes, the divinity ones are good runes but I’m just in love with vampirism they have saved me so many times I lost count already and I only just switched to them, the 6point bonus is just like ele mistform and it’s just magical how often seems to proc just in time for your heal to go off CD (you can heal in mistform but you take no damage) plus it effectively adds another 1000health to your already strong heal aswell as doing the same in damage.
I’m only talking bout your WvW setup btw for pve I think one is better off in more or less full berserker armor instead.
(edited by Manekk.6981)
I don’t switch pets too often but when I do this is a little annoying one thing I like though is my 2 devourers I use in water combat keeps their name on land if I switch to them there
That’s the bane of this class is that we have hardly any condition removal. I rely on WS grandmaster trait and Healing Spring for my condition removal. The signet isn’t worth it though in my opinion.
I use to run Melandru runes with Poultry for 65% conditional removal time but I opted for this route.
EDIT: Haven’t tried Sigil of Generosity, I’ll have to test that out. As far as the SoR go I hate the cooldown on it. If it’s reworked somehow on the 30th I might consider it.
SoR is really strong on passive for removals actually together with generosity conditions aren’t a problem at all plus you have a stunbreaker than can also strip immobilize in one go should you need it you’ll be more vulnerable after of course but that is the game and atleast you won’t be totally naked since you still have generosity helping some, I swapped LR for SoR and also Bond for Barkskin and feel much stronger for it not to mention it’ll increase pet survivability tenfold, it’s not perfect but it works and definetly something you should atleast try.
(edited by Manekk.6981)
It has 3k power ad I’ve seen it in action, it works, and it works very well, Kalo is wicked with the double bow.
I tried it breifly, didn’t suit me at all couldn’t kill a thing I miss the crits too much and like to be able to pressure more rather than wear them down.
High crit chance and pies heal almost aswell as this anyway aside from the spirit.
