out of the 4 teams that got to the semi final, [TCG] was the only team that deserved to win the tournament.

This was a great tournament. Things I learned:
—#llamaprophecies and a lot of luck gets you a new finisher
—Precursors are not just for PvE players anymore
—If you lose, just do a Posi (joking aside, I hope that guy is banned from all future ANET sponsored tournaments. What a disgrace.)
—Mesmers are way more valuable to top teams than to average teams
—Eles are backGreat tournament and I’m looking forward to NA.

Anet could do the best patch ever but it would still be countered by the existance of Skyhammer in soloqueue.

Thanks for the questions. Here are some answers:
- Blinding Ashes ICD (Internal Cooldown) is ‘global’, where it activates once and goes on recharge. The trait works much better in small engagements.
- Elemental Contingency’s Internal Cooldown is currently once every 10 seconds.
- Lightning Rod has no ICD. It will activate as often as a target allows you to interrupt them. The damage value of this trait is similar to that of Halting Strike.
Weakness duration is 4 seconds base (but you’re putting points into Fire, so add 30% duration on that).
Does the new grandmaster earth trait work with lingering elements?
No respawns ftw!

The players could try to answer these questions:
- Should the map be removed? Yes or No?
- Would you rework the map instead?
- Should the map be temporary removed while it’s being fixed?
- Is the map balanced for all proffessions?
- What do you like the most about Skyhammer? What do you like the least?
- Should the cannon be dodgeable?

- The reason to get up to 20 in arcana is because you need the lingering elements for stone heart. Also elemental attunement will always be amazing. Even if you switch out of earth you are still immune to crits.
> Why focus? Because you still want the extra condi cleansing and you can use earth#5 if you are forced to leave the earth attunement. Also a build with 3 invulnerabilities (burning speed, obsidian flesh and mistform) allows you to play berserker. Even if you are an ele.
Other variants:
-10 air, +10 Arcana (more condi cleanse, faster rotation into earth, less damage)
-20 air, +20 fire, or even: -20 air, -5 arcana, +25 fire (yolo fire!)

The trait itself sounds like a great trait against thieves, warriors and other zerkers. But my concern is that it’ll be too good. Because instead of toning down insane bursts, or making eles a bit tougher, Anet opted to make a hard counter to them.
I fear that now, ele defense will be balanced around the assumption that they’ll use Stone Heart against burst builds and Diamond Skin against condition builds. This means that builds that use neither will nog get buffed, simply because ‘the ele is in a good place against build x’. My fear is that, because we now have hard counters, we are effectively told to shut up in terms of balance complaints.
And I don’t like that prospect…
You can actually deal with conditions while using stone earth picking the stability trait and ether renewal.

Would anyone suggest that say, the winning team of any major tournament that Aanet runs; running NO warrior and engineer decap would lose to another average or even above average team that ran only those top “overpowered” classes and/or builds? I would place my money on the coordinated, tournament winning team everytime.

A 10/10 team can lose to a let’s say 7,5/10 team that is using these classes.
The idea about the enrage timers is fairly interesting. This map is going to play a lot differently than the 2v2 or 3v3s you see in Forest/Foefire. There is a lot of terrain to LoS on, and it’s fairly easy to disengage and reset. Tyler Chapman and I have had some extended duels on the map, but there’s definitely more flavor in it than just going head-to-head on a flat plane.
When it comes to feedback (after you guys have had a chance to play it), I think the scoring is going to be an interesting subject. Is this going to be a one-life type of deal, or solely based on timer? First option gives you much more of an arena feel, second is more deathmatch. Good news is you can replicate a lot of these options with the existing custom arena settings.
Anyways, I look forward to seeing what you guys think once you get into the map. I’m sorry to hear that you’ll be gone for training, Cheri. We’ll see you when you get back.
Dont you think thieves might abuse the size of the map?
I know that we all hate capture points but maybe if the inner circle in the map was a capture point as big as foefire’S we could prevent stealth abusing and thiefs kiting all around the map.
The team that wins the fight (there is no respawn) will cap the node and win the game

Simplest answer I can give is that it just isn’t as high a priority as other things we have been working on.
Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?
In every MMO dueling has created a very healthy community of PvPers that love to compete vs each other and improve at the same time.
The current “join a server” doesn’t promote this.

All the anounced changes for the April patch are really good, and the devs have done a really good job. Redoing all the runes and sigils? That’s quite impressive.
However. The announced changes so far don’t adress the major issues the game currently has, and this worries me a lot. I understand that the devs work hard and don’t have much time to play, and this causes a secession between the direction the game goes and the direction it really needs to take. Sometimes when you work exclusively in something you forget about the real world.
I’m currently studing engineering and luckily I have studied many statistics subjects, therefore I understand that the forum population is not an objective sample. But although it’s not the best sample it’s the only one you guys have, and we do reflect the major concerns of the PvP community. People hanging around in the mists do share our thoughts, and the ones enjoying maps like skyhammer are indeed a minority.
Players want your game to succeed as much as you do. If there are 10+ forum threads about the same topic, investigate it.
- Is it really gamebreaking?
- Is it easy to fix? If not, can we apply a temporary solution?
- What mistakes did we commit that lead to this situation?
The last thing that the playerbase needs is an empty “We are reading your feedback”. We need real, tangible reactions to our concerns. Otherwise the PvP community will lose faith in the company and move to another MMO.
What I’m trying to say is that although Anet is doing a good job, the devs are not focusing on the important issues. I have the impression that the different teams working on PvP (balance, servers, pvp team, etc) are not working together and that makes me think that there isn’t anyone leading them to a common goal.
The PvP project needs someone that gathers these teams together in a room and makes them work together. The different teams have to talk: Where are we going? Is the community happy? Should we introduce new traits or fix the existing ones first? Can we work together to achieve balance?
I’ll give an example about working together on balance.
- Decap engineers are currently a broken build that is ruining GW2 for many players. I understand that the balance team might be busy and they cannot fix it any time soon, but they could get some help from the map design team. The map designer could add some walls to certain nodes that could be used to prevent the decap thus promote skillful play.
On the other hand, the balance team could help the map designer on the Skyhammer issue. They could investigate which classes are having the hardest time in that map and give them accessible stability or some kind of skyhammer invulnerability (some classes have it, others don’t). At the same time they could look at the builds that are dominating that specific map.
Working without proper planification never ends up well. However if you stop for a while and think you can come with easier and faster solutions.
Some of the major concerns are: Warriors, decap engis, pistol whip thiefs and skyhammer. None of these issues were addressed in the upcoming patch and now we have to wait another couple of months for another patch. That’s the reason that frustrates players the most.

I lost faith in this balance team a long time ago. Every decision they make is wrong.
Why did they redo every runeset and sigil, introduce new sigil rulings and traits, etc if the main problems still remain?
They have wasted a huge amount of time and they didnt fix any of the issues: they keep adding more and more problems to the game.
If they listened to the community:
Decap engi would be nerfed
Warrior would be nerfed
Thief would be nerfed.
With the above mentioned nerfs and the removal of skyhammer the game would be so much better…
I know the balance guys work hard but their priorities are totally wrong. I highly doubt that they ever played pvp at all.

1) It decaps nodes really fast.
2) It easily takes 3x or 4x that time to kill them. It also requires 2 of your players.
3) Meanwhile the other team is outnumbering at mid and they are generating more points/second.
4) Once you lose mid there’s no hope. You cannot leave your home undefended since the decap engi will go again and again. You cannot outnumber mid/far and even if you get the kills the enemy team keeps respawning and you lose because of the time.
tldr;
Decap engi is not overpowered, but it abuses all the flaws of the conquest game mode and destroys the fun to everyone.
Anet can make a really nice patch, but as long as decap engi is so overpowered you cannot enjoy PvP in this game.

I don’t see decap engis as overpowered, just as really annoying. and sorry, but for annoying you can’t nerf a build.
Otherwise they would have nerfed stealth, evade, block, stun, daze, ………..
An average decap engi can earn a 300 points advantage to their team in a soloq match
There’s a build mocking at the game mode anet deffends so much, and they don’t even try to shave it down.

Exactly. Devs keep saying that they play the game, but if they really did they would understand how broken some builds are.
And among all the broken builds, there is one that makes the game frustrating to play. And that’s the decap engi.
