I get the AI argument, but DoTs? What? You realize you got hit by the dot for it to be ticking on you, right? That’s sort of how they work.. you get HIT by them and you take that damage over time instead of up-front. You can still LOS to avoid getting the dot on you in the first place… So there’s that… That’s like saying dodge rolls don’t do anything against condition builds, and that’s just silly.

However, there ARE too many PBAoEs, and aoes in general that can reach around objects. That’s a better point to make and far more important.

Dots are still unfair. Power classes have to land big combos to deal the damage, while a single burn that cant be cleansed deals as much damage. Even if you LOS, while it was applied really cheaply.

1) Implement separate queue with leaderboard

2) All matches should be spectable

3) I loved the enrage timers you described. Since they should only punish bunkers I think they should lower the amount of toughness instead (after a long time)

4) Registration for teams is important, but if it’s not developed yet we could use the current system.

5) Each player should have 1 life. Once they die they cannot respawn. If Anet internally tests it and the matches are too short a system like wildstar’s would be acceptable (3 Lifes)

6) Copy wow’s system to prevent invisibility & hiding: After a period of time there’s an eye-buff that you can grab to see invisible enemies.

7) Thiefs could be a problem here because they are impossible to chase when they are using the shortbow. This will be quite hard to adress. I suggest adding a debuff that deals damage if you are not in the center of the map.

This map can be amazing if it gets proper infrastructure: queue, ladder and rewards.

However if its introduced as custom arena only it will be the same as the dueling servers: a very small minority will participate

Q: if the population here is so unrepresentive why is anet wasting their time doing CDIS?
Are they a lie to keep us happy talking about ladders, balance and stuff?

However, if CDI does work, could you make a new one about the possible removal of skyhammer?

I believe CDI should focus on fixing gamebreaking issues that we currently have rather than talking about seasons that who knows when are coming.

Many players like me are waiting for this map to be removed in order to come back to the game. Skyhammer makes soloq a really bad experience.

Its unfair to many classes, random, you can be pulled to death by an invisible player, you can be oneshotted by an unavoidable cannon, etc. This map should never be in a ranked queue.

Hello everyone,

I’m pretty new to GW2 and tried sPvP only a few rounds. And actually, I have almost no incentive to continue playing it except having fun for a short time like playing Minesweeper, but not to invest time to really improbe skills and so on.
In the past I played games like CS, WC3, LoL, GW1. All of them are/were pretty successful in Esports. So I was thinking about it and I came to some thoughts and ideas which I want to share and get some feedback.

First of all, I read through some threads and the roadmap for the development of GW2 (especially PvP). In my opinion, the development goes in a wrong direction, because it is focusing too much on rewards and stuff. But to be honest? The games I mentioned above had barely rewards, but still they were incredebly successfull.

So what I think, which made the games successful in the Esports scene, is that they promoted top teams/players/guilds a lot through tournaments or leagues. I think, every Esport (and normal sport) need stars, where beginner or just casual player admire such high level plays and try to copy. And on the other hand, if there are such promotions, many player also try to be a top player, because a simple reason…. You can show that you are a “great” player. It is all about fame…
I have read that Anet is trying to implement the league system like in LoL or SC2, and I think this is a great step. But to continue this, Anet show build a really good observer mode like in GW1, where all people can watch the top league teams playing against each other. I remember times, where I watched in GW1 teams like War Machine or The Last Pride for hours. And so did a lot of other people. I think, for top player it is rewarding enough, if thousands other player watch you playing instead of getting just some gold and other loot….

Another point are the Queue Modes. So far, there are Hotjoins, SoloQ and TeamQ.
Hotjoins: Please kick it out. Better do unranked 5vs5 matches to practise for the ranked matches. ANd then give people the ability to create custom games. So all in all, same like in LoL

SoloQ/TeamQ: I would rather split it up in Solo/Team-Queue (one mode) and kind of Guild-Queue. The first mode should be done same as in LoL. So teams get mixed up by Solo-players and team-players, but the opponent should be matched in the same way. So if one team has 3 solo-players and 2 team players, the opponent should be mixed up the same. For Guild-Queues my idea is just that GW2 is a MMO, and people are much more related to their guilds. This would incent people to create more and better PvP-Guilds trying to going up the ladders for fame. And similar to GW1, the observer-mode should definetely show the games of top 50 or top 100 guilds.

These are just my thoughts about the competitive part of GW2. I know, GW2 needs also better PvP-Modes, but I can understand that this takes much more time. I think, my ideas are faster to implement and at least a step in a more competitive community. I think there are a huge amount of gamers waiting for a competitive PvP-mode in a MMO style. So this goes hand in hand with the revenues, which NCSoft seeks for. An idea to increase earnings in PvP is maybe to do PvP-only skins, which you can buy for real money (for a reasonable price like 5€ per weapon or 8€ per armor set). I think, many people would buy some skins, if the PvP community is big and professional enough. And last but not least, do more frequently but smaller balance fixes. Look at other games like Low, how they do this

What do you think about it? I really like the mechanics of GW2 because it is more focused on skill and I would love if GW2 gets more attention by the Esports scene.

I hope for some feedback.

What can the game do to improve communication between teammates in-game through the UI?

A ping system like league of legend would be a great start.

Smite’s system is awesome too. There are a few prerecorded voice-messages that can be played by typing specific keys in your keyboard.

Another idea is that chat messages of the team leader pop in the center of the screen. The team leader would be the player with the highest MMR in the group

What seems to have happened is that for a lot of players Solo Arena became a way to never have to think about making a team. This is in large part because a player could gain some fame from the SA leaderboard. As a result, a lot of highly competitive players did not move on to Team Arena and as teams inevitably broke apart many of those players drifted back to SA and made it their thing. So this area that was meant to be the next step for potential new hardcore players became the end goal for many existing hard core players.

Solo arena is the end goal for many players because it offers the same rewards as team arena (none) and takes 0 effort to play (you dont have to find 4 players).

Add awesome rewards (titles, finishers, skins, etc) to team arena and hardcores will move to team arena

I quit like… A month ago, Team High Warlord Sikari, me and my 5 minions of fury… still mess with the GW2 forums while I wait for Wildstar to come out, and hope it’s got decent updates and balance. Only time will tell, not getting my hope up but still pretty stoked.

So u basically changing 1 game broken by ncsoft on another game by ncsoft? Is it wise?

Even if wildstar was released in it’s current state and never got a update, it has far more pvp content than gw2 and a better proffession balance.

Let’s look at the context first. I’m gonna list the nerfs/changes that brought ele down:

Evasive Arcana nerfed:

  • radius reduced to 180
  • effectiveness with healing attribute reduced by 50%
  • no longer break knockback (yes, that’s the little known fact people didn’t know. EA was OP because of this). <—- Ele didn’t need much stability because of this. After it is fixed, Ele shows their true weakness to crowd controls.

Healing nerfed:

  • Signet of Restoration nerfed 18%. This is planed to be reverted… in a few months.
  • Cleaning Water now has an internal cooldown of 3 seconds. This makes Ele critically vulnerable against conditions meta. <—- this took away the main way Ele can deal with conditions.
  • Healing Ripple nerfed 50%. The number of targets reduced from infinite to 5. <—- this, together with EA heal nerfed, are why Ele is no longer the immortal bunker.

Ride the Lightning nerfed:

  • increased recharge from 15 to 40 seconds if blocked/evaded. <—- A lot of people complain about this, but I don’t think it’s as significant as the survivability nerfed mentioned above.
  • reduced range from 1550 to 1200

Magnetic Wave nerfed:

  • from unblockable to blockable
  • [minor] has two casts now, but the immobilized duration is the same, which means ele loses out on time.

Cantrips nerfed:

  • Cleansing Fire: no longer stun break <—- this is big, after the nerf, Ele struggles to play in the meta because Ele doesn’t have a lot of stability. Ele depends on stun break to deal with stuns/fears/knock)
  • Lightning Flash: no longer a stun break, add a little bit damage <—- same above, ANet removed the stunbreaks without giving Ele anymore stability to compensate for it.
  • Mist Form: now still get damage from conditions.

Auras nerfed:

  • Shocking aura boons duration was halved. It was bugged before and granted double boons duration. <—- this is a bug fix, but it reduced bunker Ele damage significantly because the fury duration is reduced.

Bountiful Power nerfed:

  • damage increase per boon reduced from 2% to 1%. Which means on a d/d Ele, damage is reduced on average 6%. <—- another big damage nerf

Mist/Vapor form nerfed:

  • no longer contest point
  • no longer be able to cast any spell <—- how I hate this. I haven’t used mist form again since. It’s a self stun for 3 seconds now.

Fresh Air nerfed:

  • recharge increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds
  • Sunspot, Electric Discharge, and Earthen Blast no longer trigger when changing attunements while out of combat. This means you must use another skill to get you into combat before you can use them.

Arcane Wave nerfed:

  • [minor] number of target reduced from 6 to 5

Swirling Winds nerfed:

  • [minor] no longer destroy unblockable missiles.
    =========

I’m sure I missed other things too. Just have a quick look at the nerfs, and you can see exactly why Ele struggles so much in the current meta:

The current meta is about:

  • crowd controls (stun/fear/engi knockback): Ele cantrips got nerfed badly, and without more stability, it’s obvious they can’t handle the meta.
  • conditions: Without using the healing skill, Ele can only remove 1 condition per 3 seconds now. If we look at the rate of how fast a Necro/Engi can apply conditions to us, we can see that it’s too slow. Their attempt to add Diamond Skin is… misguided.
  • bunkers (warrior/guardians/MM necro/spirit rangers/engi): with its damage got nerfed (except the fresh air build), d/d Ele can hardly kill any competent bunkers anymore. Especially when its auto attack can’t even kill an AFK healing signet warrior in 5 minutes.

Beside that the old enemy: thief, is still pretty strong. With all the healing nerf, Ele can hardly survive a thief burst anymore, since after the burst, the Ele can’t heal back up unless spec’ed full cleric.

If you are one of the people who thinks “Nothing has changed, why did Ele become so bad?” I urged you to read the list of nerfs again. It’s really significant. The buffs ANet gave to glyphs, conjures, etc… are not enough to help Ele coming back.

You forgot 2 major nerfs:

Elemental attunement from adept to master tier.
Cleansing wave from adept to master tier

Despite inherently having the lowest base HP and toughness, I think Elementalists are really close to being into the meta and are somewhat close to being balanced and highly viable. Of course in the right hands.

I’m already starting to see more elementalists roaming in WvW and some of them have pretty strong dueling specs and can handle themselves when they are outnumbered as well. I guess people have learned to adapt to the situation and learned that they really aren’t as bad as people claim to be.

I think Armor of Earth being reduced to 75 second cooldown is a pretty significant change. With Cantrip recharge trait that is about 60 second cooldown, which means around 9 seconds of Stability and 9 seconds of protection (with boon duration that eles have ofc). That end the change they are going to make to that one skill that makes them evade when they use it. I think people underestimate that.

And that is only a preview of the changes to come and they had already stated the main goal is to buff the sustainability of eles. Which probably means they have more buffs in that department coming their way. Of course one should reserve their judgments to when the patch actually happens. But I have confidence that elementalists will at least be a viable and competitive spot in tournament play (although they may not be necessary). And they will be even stronger in PvE and WvW. Which I am not opposed to and would actually like to see since they got hit with a huge nerf bat early in the game.

Eles have the lowest HP pool in the game.
Eles have the worst deffensive mechanics in the game.

A 15 seconds reduction on an insanely long CD utility doesn’t affect the gameplay at all.
Dagger/dagger is in a really bad state, so the buff to fire#3 won’t make it meta-worthy. Just an average-bad build.

Every experienced ele player knows that the changes are not good enough. Ele will be unplayable for the next 8 months (4 months till balance patch)

I like. This cleansing water change is crucial to restoring ele in SPvP.

Actually they are adding the scepter regeneration to increase ele condition cleanse options. But apparently they totally forgot that Cleansing water has now iCD and that swapping to water already gives you regeneration.

I really hope they revert cleansing water nerf..

Cleansing wave and elemental attunement should be back to adept tier. They are must have traits the only reason to move them further in their lines is to kill build diversity.

Ride the lightning nerf should also be reverted. It has been one of the biggest nerfs in the game and it was totally unnecessary.

Eles were nerfed because they were unkillable. The problem is that back then the class with more damage was mesmer.

Nowadays mesmer is one of the classes that does less damage.

Because of this, a simple revert to ele previous state would be ok. Bunker eles would still be destroyed by engineers, necromancers, thiefs, warriors, etc.

The funny thing is that they said that the changes to scepter water #3 would give eles more condi cleanse thanks to cleansing water.

Well they are totally wrong. They probably forgot that they had added an internal CD to cleansing water, and since you get regeneration when attuning to water, cleansing water won’t proc at all from water#3.

So guess what? You don’t get any condi cleanse.

Since they don’t really play the game, they won’t notice this flaw until the patch is released (in 4 months) and it will take another 4months for the next balance patch.

I think this example explains the current state of balance.

So why exactly was Rtl nerfed yet rush remains untouched?

Quick math:

1. RTL was considered OP: 1500 range, 15 seconds CD.
They nerfed it to 1200 range, 40 seconds CD

Before: 1500/15 = 100 range/second
Now: 1200/40 = 30 range/second

It was nerfed by 70%
100*(100-30)/100= 70%

2. Healing Signet is considered OP. They nerf it by 8%

Conclusion: They are very careful at nerfing warriors but they don’t give a kitten about eles. This is why Rush isn’t nerfed

Wait, is anyone still caring about the game? People still play this?

I quit when I read about this april big feature patch. They have promised so many big patchs already, and I can’t remember a single one that was good.

As lordsoricky said, they only care about the money and they prefer to hold back all content instead of having a playable game. They are afraid of Wildstar and TESO stealing all their playerbase, because they know their own game is really bad.

If GW2 was enjoyable at all you wouldn’t see such decisions.

They had two options:
A) Hey let’s make the game as good as possible to keep our players happy and involved with gw2
B) Let’s have an unplayable game for a whole year and then announce a huge patch
when competitors release their games

They don’t care about the player experience, so why should we care about their unfinished game?

Just forget about gw2 and maybe in 10 years or more it’s actually playable and you can reinstall it.

edit: This “plan” can’t come from NCsoft because they are publishing wildstar, so it’s all Anet’s fault

I like the idea.

If kills scored 10 points, games in foefire wouldnt end by timer. It would also increase the number of comebacks.

We have a patch coming February 4th, and I have 0 idea what to expect. It could be the patch of the century, it could completely overlook PvP (shocker, I know), etc.

What other game, of this size and success, does this? Why keep the players in the dark so much?

  • This game reminds me of Nintendo with their policies and handling of things. They’re their own worst enemy

I have been a HUGE supporter of this game since beta, and I haven’t played a single match in close to a month, but I am still coming to the forums to try to catch a glimpse of what’s to come; however, I’m starting to see no value in that either.
