Yesterday I was super excited that we had a new test season where skill mattered instead of game grinding.
I grouped with a couple of friends and we started queing for ranked over and over. We tryharded a lot because we thought wining was important and we placed in the top 100 with 80% winrate.
I was quite satisfied with the experience and I went to sleep. I just woke up and I realized that some players kept playing all night long and they are already unreachable.
Top 1 EU is already at 49 games.
Averaging 10 minutes per game and 7 minutes queue (might be longer during the night) this guy has played 17*49 = 13,8 hours in a single day.
He is the best in Europe because he has played the most games.
Ladder = Grind = Time

The problem is the ladder points system due to their farmeable nature.
Giving ladder points to the team that lost is a bad idea, even if they reached 499 score. If you give points to the winning AND the losing team, the ladder becomes a grind.
So
1) delete Ladder Points
2) Sort players by MMR
(edited by Marcos.3690)
First match I had:
- Xeph from Team Paradigm, if you played the game during 2012-13 you would recognize the name.
- Phantaram
- Tron Jeremy, who all tho runs some trolly builds, is a great thief player, and knows where to be and when to be there.
- A warrior who’s name escapes me but once again was on point with everything.
- And myself on standard shatter mes.
That game was great, rotations were on it, Xeph and I combined could shut down the enemy thief, Phanta 2v1’d far and knew when to leave the fight. It was great all the way around. The match wasn’t a complete steam roll, but it was fun.
Next match: I get
- What I think is a DPS guard, he was running mace focus+GS, can’t be sure but I don’t remember hearing any shouts from him.
- D/P thief running signet of malice (enough said there.)
- A power necro that I don’t think had any wells
- And a pew pew ranger.
The first mid fight the whole team wiped while i capped home alone. So I said screw it I’m going far. I went far full capped it and portaled back across near home, this was on foe fire.The rest of the match was just a mud slinging contest of our guardian yelling at our thief and ranger, and me just shaking my head at the entire teams inability to know when it’s time to leave a fight.
So tell me again how matchmaking is working? I don’t mind if i get placed in group one, i honestly don’t mind being placed in group two. But to go directly from group one to group two after winning a match with group one, something isn’t working right. This was not the system just throwing me in with people because the que was taking so long and it prioritized fast matches over appropriately paired ones, both ques popped almost instantly.
Dude, the ladder was reset today what did you expect? everyone is at same MMR
they should remove “Ladder Points” forever and sort the MMR according to Matchmaking.
This!
When you try to CC someone that is not your target you have to yolo because you can’t tell if he has stability..
If you go to the support menu ingame, you can find this

“Beta” -> “Leaderboards”
So… ingame leaderboards hype? Hopefully they are better than the grindy ones we have nowadays.
had 3k ms today lol
never was this bad
my teammates were also lagging
All is vain
Well, personally i think this whole specialization thing is bull, because what is the point of specializing, when you can swap specializations at any time out of combat, like weapons?
It should have been more permament, like, if you pick a specialization, then to change it, you would have to do a long and annoying quest plus pay a lot of mats and gold in the process to reset it.
Kills the whole meaning of “Specialization”.o_O
No, thank you.
If how they’re going to do it is the exact opposite of what you suggest, where I can swap it freely, I’ll be quite pleased with that myself.
If you watch the vid I linked with the dev talking about it you can swap freely as much as you want so long as you’re out of combat.
I know, still stands to reason what i said.
Would like something more permament to define your choice, than being able to just swap out of combat and become a druid or a shaman, every next fight.
Atleast a system like in Rift would have been keen, where you would have to go to the trainer NPC and pay a bit of gold to reset your current specialization.
I mean, specializations themselves make no sense then, not sure why go through the trouble of adding them, if its the same as just changing your weapon.
Logic, there was no need for specializations when you need to get out of combat to change weapons, and specialization, when you could have just directly equipped the new weapon spec.
I’ll explain
-> In this expansion we will introduce NEW specializations. Rangers will become druids!
WAAAAAAT THAT’S COOL
VS
-> In this expansion we will introduce NEW weapon choices. Rangers will use staff!
well.. ok.
So apparently I was ranting a bit and finally got myself a reply from a staff member who actually took the time to explain WHY ArenaNet is NOT at fault, gonna share it to you, since they don’t seem to find the courage to update everyone who is seeking for help in this thread.

Did anyone test the VPNs? Which one should I use?I’m playing from spain
i have tested the vpns, and it changed nothing for me, my ping did go down aswell, but my fps remained the same, it isnt a connection issue, its a issue on there side, that has been proven numerous times, but if you would like to try one, id suggest the WTFast one
FPS is not my problem, latency is.

I’m having huge lags in EU during peak hours.
I noticed this happens to me every time GW2 gets popular and people actually play it. I don’t have any kind of lags in the periods where the game is “dead” (i.e., long PvP queues, few people playing) or off peak hours.
Apparently it doesn’t affect everyone.
Note: I don’t lag in any other game, and my conection is 88.44Mbps download, 9.77 Mbps upload. I’m playing from Spain.
ingame ping can peak 400+
I’m really worried because this could be even worse when HoT releases.

- Courtyard queue
- 3vs3
- Visible Rating
- Anyone can spectate (this is not conquest where you can be ghosted)
- Respawn is disabled. There’s a bo3 system (best of three)
- Maximum stealth time: 5 seconds
My priority list:
1) Rework of the ladder. Best players should be in the top, instead of those that play the most.
2) Visible rating
3) 4 month seasons with unique skin sets and titles. You can unlock the required reward tracks with your rating.
4) The ability to duel in the mists or to join custom arenas while in queue.
is there a VOD of the 1st one?
Yeah, we need visible MMR
NO
Why is MMR be so hidden and mysterious?
Everyone has been wondering the same for almost 2 years
This is how I see it, you’re on the lowest MMR rating, basically you’re in the same tier as bad players and other new players, which is fine, that’s normal for new people. However, that level of MMR has less people than the “average” tier, so longer queues. In the average tier, queue times are normally less than 2 minutes. Then there’s the high tier, etc. The average queue time is misinforming because it’s not accurate for low tier players and high tier players, who have longer queue times.
I’ve been only Q’ing alone. Does it go faster with a party?
Which one of the stats in the screenshot is my MMR?
Look in the leaderboards to figure out your MMR
eu https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/
na https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/But dont the leaderboards work differently to the MMR? I recall alot of topics in the forum about that and i somewhat come to the conclusion that they are not a good indicator for your MMR. But since i dont know for sure i could be wrong…
They are indeed a bad indicator, but it’s the only information Anet made available to us.

There’s no lag in heart of the mists, but every time I join a PvP game (any game) I get this annoying 1 second delay on all my skills.

wow is really unbalanced even after 6.1
Another possible idea would be split “traits” and the stats from the traitline in 2 different systens. Like some games let you get character stats when you lvl up.
Keep the trait system for traits and a new system similar to the trait one but only with stats.
Do eles really not do that much damage?
In the Glasscanon build it does tons of damage.
In the currently optimal build tho, it doesn’t
@Marcos.3690
I hope that ele specialization will bring new life to the class, something that will compete against water/arcana combo with a different twist
-sustain through heavy control
-viable zerker build ( comparable to med guardian)Something like that
we can only dream
Hello all!
I just recently purchased Guild Wars and i’m trying to get into it. I come from high rated WoW pvp and i’m trying to find a new pvp scene.
So i’m wondering what class is best/good. I’m thinking of going Thief, Warrior or Ele. I’m more of a melee person I think but i want to play what’s going to be good at high ratings and does a lot of damage. I think i mainly want to roam and 1v1 / 2v1 people.
Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks!!
If you want to do a lot of damage then play thief. Warrior and eles fill a more deffensive role nowadays.
Warriors and eles can do quite a lot of damage in the right build, but that’s not what they play in high ratings.
However with the new expansion/gamemode this is subject to change, so play whatever you enjoy the most.
NOTE: Also, don’t be too worried about d/d ele nerfs. As long as the conquest gamemode exists (deffend a circle) melee eles are going to be a strong option.
(edited by Marcos.3690)
I play fresh air on my ele, I didn’t see anything cast nor any attunement switch. Miliseconds though? No one is that fast. Besides all the skills in, for sake of argument fire with scepter require at least a second to cast.
Did you check combat log to see what killed you?
Ele is awfully designed and it has been a balance problem since launch. It’s either too bad or too good.
And it will be as long as they are forced to spend 30 in water and 30 in arcana because other traitlines suck
The celestial concept is great – an amulet that is ok at everything – but the implementation is awfull.
Such a generic amulet will obviously become the most played. If you make it too tanky, the games are going to become boring.
Anet should rellocate most of the stats to make it less tanky while keeping the total numbers.
Less toughness, less healing. More power, more precision.
Removing the timer and increasing the respawns on late game would actually raise the comeback potential.
e.g if you are forced to deffend but you manage to wipe the entire enemy team you can rush their lord right away. But if there is a timer, the deffending team is going to lose eitherway.
I just watched the showmatch that has been played in the WTS stream and I must say that the timer is really unfun and anti-climax. A PvP game should never end because the time runs out.
I’m afraid the best tactic right now when you are ahead is to play deffensive for the last 2 minutes and wait for the timer win.
I think anet should remove the timer and increase the respawn time as the game goes longer.
Say no to timers!
(edited by Marcos.3690)
I’m asking because I don’t have the time to play the game right now, so I just wanted to know if it was worth my time depending on what you guys said it was like. I wouldn’t be asking here if I could just see for myself.
I would say yes then
2v2/3v3 would be cool.
That’s really cool lol
Don’t think it. Do it. Try it. Decide.
Could someone explain what is the major difference between Unranked and Ranked Matches and how Matchmaking works in comparison ?
As a player new to PVP (but veteran in PVE and WvW) what should I go for, if I like to play with PUGs ?
I suggest you to start playing unranked.
When you feel that you are better than the other 9 players move to ranked
The feature is quite cool, but it sux when you get the rabbit finisher.
Can we please have an option to remove the finishers we don’t want randomized?
IMO, we will get an off hand because it’s 2×5=10 new skills.
Main hand would be 3×5=15.
Yes.
And after your team has surrendered an autocomplain is submited in the forums.
Just some QoL
And make it visible, pls
The community will never grow as long as players are forced to play conquest.
So yeah, split the queues
How to make pvp competitive:
- Fix the ladder point system: More games played should not mean higher rating.
- Introduce 4 month seasons
- Each season has new skins coming in a reward track. That reward track is only available to the top1000 players (subject to change)
- At the end of the season, top 10 players get a sick title and finisher.
@Anet
Just copy wow’s rating system and seasons
Is the issue that it’s too hard to change a team comp for this map? No, the issue is that most players are bored of conquest. Many potential players also avoid this game because of conquest.
Is the issue that you truly only want to play this mode? No, even though we are bored of conquest most of us want to play both modes. But we want to choose when. We dont want an algorythm to choose which modes can be voted.
Would you want Stronghold to be in both unranked and ranked queue based on what you’ve heard? We should have
1) Conquest ranked (Only conquest)
2) Stronghold ranked (Only stronghold)
3) Unranked arena (Conquest+Stronghold+Courtyard)
If this change would increase queue times or make you face worse players in order to maintain the same queue times, would you still be for this change? If that happens, they should mix the queues. BUT only if that happens. Mixing queues from the beginning shows a lack of confidence on the new expansion and future of the game.
This new game mode is an opportunity for GW2 to grow. And before releasing the expansion they are already telling us that most players will leave. Is the new gamemode that bad?
ALSO
If they mix the queues, the MMR will not be accurate and matches will have worse quality.
Good players in one game mode can be bad at the other one. Imagine all the new players coming in HoT just to play stronghold. Some of them may be really good at stronghold, but I’m sure they won’t be able to compete against 3 years of conquest experience. In the end, they will be ranked way lower that they deserve.
I believe mixing queues will be a huge entry barrier to PvP, and that won’t help our tiny community grow.
The same will happen to current WvW players interested in Stronghold. Many of them never come to sPvP because of conquest. If stronghold is just a map in the old rotation, nothing will change.
There are even more reasons
I assume there will be a bunch of stronghold tournaments. How are the teams supposed to practice if they are forced to queue into a random game mode? (even if they vote it’s still 50%)
Gathering 5 guys every day is really hard. And now we have to waste half of our time in a gamemode that we don’t even need to practice?
(edited by Marcos.3690)
it’s nice to see that EU is represented by such a skilled engineer!
You are our pride, number 1 turreter EU
1,2,3,4 ok
5 -> B
movement: WAD
Heal -> E
utilities-> R, G, T
ulti -> S or 5
Dodge ->Q
Turn camera ->Shift
stomp/rezz -> F
F1 to F4 → z, x, c, v
Mark someone -> Y
target the mark -> Mouse mid button
All this buzz for a new map ???
Why are we even talking about a new game mode ?
At least for courtyard I did not remember them making so much noise (and they were right not to do it as it changed close to nothing in the spvp scene)
- In HoT we will introduce one new mode (WAAAAT, I NEED TO BUY THAT)
- In HoT we will introduce one new map in the old rotation (…)
related:
- In HoT we will introduce NEW class specializations! (WOOOOOT, NICE!)
- In HoT each class will have a new weapon (…ok)
