I would still like to hear from ArenaNet if they would be so kind as to illuminate what they thought were the pros and cons of merging the queues of Stronghold and Conquest. It would greatly help to see what the reasoning behind this was.
It’s one thing to keep us in the dark about what’s coming up int he game, but I can’t recall another game doing this ever. I think there is good reason for that too.
The only possible reason is this:
-Stronghold is boring/flawed and they know. So if they implement a stronghold queue it will be empty
Would be great if more people was able to vote !
1245 Votes is already huge considering how small the pvp community is.

There is not a single reason why you would want to have both gamemodes in one que. People voting for “no” either missclicked or like to troll.
Are you one of those people who believes that if an opinion doesn’t agree with your own then that opinion is wrong?
Maybe i’m just one of those persons who actually thought about this topic. Is there a single benefit to anyone if they’re going to merge the ques?
Some people really don’t want to be forced to play conquest. I would actually say there are a lot of people who would consider playing pvp just for stronghold.
On the other hand there are probably people who’ll hate the idea behind stronghold and rather stick with conquest.
Maybe there are a lot of people who would like to play both gamemodes, but also want to DECIDE WHAT they want to play and WHEN they want to play this specific gamemode.
Even if you want diversity, you can just que up for conquest and go for stronghold right after that.
In fact a merged que would only benefit people wo like RNG or can’t decide what to play by themselves.
The ONE and ONLY reason for introducing a merged que would be something like quetimes or “splitting the community”. But honestly, if they’re introducing a merged que there will be a lot of players finally leaving this game due to another failure of anet (not even mentioning the amount of 4v5s due to ragequits). Besides that i believe stronghold could attract a lot of new players (who would maybe consider playing conquest as well at some point) and help the pvp-community to finally grow again.

The only reason i found to merge queues is: “no resources to make stronghold queue UI”
I doubt they want to split of the potential population as that will have an additional negative effect on matchmaking as low queue times are need to keep people playing while bad matches lead to unsatisfied players and for the countless new or pve primary players they want to entice into the mode will quickly decide to not come back.
There will be a massive number of new players in the expansion, queues are not a problem

The issue here is that the developers of this game are so clueless about pvp that they thought mixing gamemodes was the best option

how come that during the HoT announcement Colin Johanson comes on the stage and says that guilds are going to form guild teams that will play Stronghold to fight for the top spot on guild leaderboards and then Grouch and Nightmare say something completely different during the Ready Up?
It’s the same that happened at launch. They lie to sell their box.
I am never going to buy the expansion if queues are not going to be separated. And fire the guy who came with such idea, it is even worse than balance patches..

Ranked Stronghold
I’m afraid they decided to include Stronghold in conquest because they don’t have the resources to make a UI that lets the player choose

Um. You don’t need to play it to realize you want to be able to chose what you’re doing. Easy way to prove it, say you hit que and you could either end up in pvp or in a dungeon with 4 others and you had no say about it and was punished if you left, youd quickly realize why this is a bad idea. They are vastly different modes.
What path do you prefer using when doing a timed rush for the opponents lord?
What is the best comp on this map?
Why would you compare a mode in which your opponent is a player to that of the environment and NPCs, and expect that to be taken seriously?

The “people” are the 91% who voted they’d rather them split, I guess you could say. And you say you are getting my point, but you’re not. It’d be like arena and BGs being on the same que in WoW. We’re informed ENOUGH to know that they cater to different play styles and one shouldn’t be forced if someone only wishes to do the other.
Your not forced. You get a vote at the map scree, and can leave at anytime.
You can vote from 3 random maps, most of the time stronghold won’t be one of them

There is a poll before a match starts where players can choose the map they prefer. So if the majority of the for the match teamed-up people like stronghold and vote for it, they will most likely get it. If most of them rather wanna play conquest, they’ll more likely get conquest. I dont see the problem.

- 3. Matchmaking and match quality, this should be split between game modes. You can’t track different MMRs if you have the option to pick between two different game modes. Numerous players will likely want to specialize in one of the two game modes.
Thats actually big. Good conquest players may be bad at stronghold and viceversa, ruining the matchmaking for others
So it has been decided that Stronghold belongs to the conquest queue.

having a mixed pool and being able to vote on which map to play is the best option FOR NOW.
if you want stronghold exclusivity, again, there are custom arenas for y’all. but those who’ve been enjoying conquest all that time shouldn’t be penalized. simpleI dont get your point at all. If there are thousands of players enjoying conquest, wouldnt they prefer it if they could queue up for conquest exclusively instead of randomly being thrown into a Stronghold game? They exclusivity goes both ways; do you realise that?
I dont think ‘splitting the playerbase’ is really such a big problem. Would prefer that to being thrown into a game mode i dont want to play.

i love conquest, don’t have much issues with it.
i don’t particularly enjoy death match, still play it now and then
very interested in Stronghold.
i would like to have to give up one to play the other, i like the fact that they are all in a pool and i can up-vote or down-vote which map i want to play, at very instant.
when i want to play only one game mode, i just join a custom arena and play round all day long.
Let the players decide which mode BEFORE queing. Everyone wins
I am much more interested in Stronghold than Conquest, and I don’t want to have to dodge queues in order to play it exclusively.

Can someone do the maths?
- There are 8 maps in total: Nifhel, foefire, Kyhlo, temple, Spirit watch, Skyhammer, Couryard, Stronghold.
- In the current map selection, 3 maps are chosen at random.
- Each player votes 1 of the 3 maps. Let’s assume 90% of the playerbase vote for stronghold.
- What are the odds of playing Conquest? What are the odds of playing Stronghold?

GW2 HoT is going to have a massive entry of new & oldplayers.
The queues are going to be really populated so there’s no reason at all to split them.
thats actually a good reason to split them because you wont harm the queue times if there is a good amount of players.
I actually think mixing them will do more harm to the queue times, as thousands of players already quit the game because of conquest.

If they become slower after the first months, there are plenty of solutions:
- Reward players for entering the least joined queue (achievements, reward track progress, etc)
- If we have seasons, players will try to be as hight as possible in both ladders so they can claim the rewards (that’s what happens in WoW 2v2 & 3v3) – Note: each ladder should have different rewards
- If nothing works, mix them
I don’t agree with placing Stronghold in the conquest queue, but I doubt “most of the time” will be accurate! Most likely anytime Stronghold comes up, it will be picked!

Even if the vote ratio for stronghold was 100% you would still play conquest most of the time

Always? This hosting’s only been a thing for 2 weeks or so. And it only makes sense to host PvE streamers before and after a PvE livestream. Of course ANet may still consider hosting some PvP players around the time Ready Up airs, but I imagine that’d make a big part of the community accuse them of favoring certain players/teams.
They should still host a pvper. They won’t favour any particular team, they will favour their own game

On this Friday’s Ready Up (12pm pst @ www.twitch.tv/guildwars2) I’ll be joined by PvP Game Designer Hugh Norfolk for a deep dive on the new game mode coming with Heart of Thorns – Stronghold. This will be our first in-depth in-game walkthrough.
There’s a lot of information available on the new map via our recent PCGamer interview, and we’ll have some additional information coming out before Friday.
We’ll probably be pretty strapped for time on the show because we have an entire map to show off, but if we have time at the end I’d like for us to answer some of your questions. Feel free reply below with any burning questions you might have and we’ll see if we can fit them in.

I like the concept of stealing resources when you get a kill, but I hope this doesn’t encourage more bunkers/celes.
imo, this seems too much work. There are not enough resources.
It took 3 years to make a new game mode, it only includes 1 map and we will have to pay for it.
If there was a bracket’d AT’s that had —>REAL<-- rewards, and not the BS reward tracks, that PvPer’s just throw away because it takes up so much inventory space
You have 8 minutes of queue time between matches. Salvage the 2 items it gives you and BOOM DONE. How do you feel so overwhelmed by the reward tracks?
Also, what “real” reward do you want? Do you have any real suggestions or did you neglect to realize that this isn’t being posted to your tumblr where 1500 people will just say “OMFG THIS. THIS. IT’S JUST I CAN’T EVEN. THIS.”
The current rewards are crap. We need a system that rewards skill. The silver that players get for a win is an insult.
Players should compete for the top spots in the ladder. When people tryhard, they get better. Until then, tournaments will be boring and one-sided.
I hope the map is good enough to justify the $40 we are probably going to pay, since the PvP players won’t get anything else.
(except of a small set of skills for every profession disguised under a cool name)
Anyway, the game mode will probably be “half cooked”, Anet-style
It’s a great map, my favourite.
But cmon every time i play some gw2 i get this same map on most games, it’s getting old so fast…

They said they are still testing the group size, it could be anything from 5v5 to 10v10,
There will be a preview for stronghold the 7th on twitch, if im not mistaken
