I propose a much more interesting topic: Game balance.

I start: Ele is the weakest class I’ve seen in any pvp game. Warrior is godlike.

Ele is actually very strong if the guy playing is approximately ~10x more skilled than the guy he’s fighting.

Brilliant. So if I play an ele I have to multiply my MMR by 10000 and then I’ll have my exact ladder position? Is there any similar coefficient for warriors?

I can’t kill an ele as a warrior. When we begin they instantly die and we cannot have a duel :/

I’ve tried to fight them without wearing any amulet and with only 1 weapon, but I experience the same issue. Even If i play traitless.

After restarting my computer and my game the same happens

Can anyone help me?

Collaborative development – sorry anet – I dont like it whatsoever. I know this isnt the case, but it just seems like you are trying to get us to do your job for you. You guys know how to design stuff, and how to take feedback to change these designs. Collaborative development is one of those things which sounds good round the meeting table, but then when you get down to here…most people probably dont care. We just want to vent and give feedback in normal ways and you can use this in your design process.

You bought the game. You have the same rights as pve players.

And everyman is equal before the law but we all know how that works in real life. I am pvp player also and I do not like it also but this is how it is.

What do you suggest then?

They care about money which comes from PvE because people buy gems for clothes, minies, costumes, finishers … PvP does not care about that much and they do not care about pvp.

No pvp content → no one plays pvp → no pvp content → no one plays pvp →

One more time, the upcoming update includes a ton of content for PvE players and none for the those of us that enjoy the competitive aspect of the game even though we paid the same amount for the game.

That made me think:

so far, how many updates were for pvp players and how many for the pve crowd?

It wasn’t so bad, but after march Anet clearly changed their mind about pvp development:

PVP: 30 april, 11th june, 9th june, 6th august,

  • Make a new NPC in the mists to “Create/Manage a Team” (much like the one in major cities in PvE)
    • A team may have up to 10 people.
    • A player may be in up to 5 teams at once.
  • In order to queue up, at least 5 people in your team have to be online.
  • Once that’s in place, make it so that Team Queues are only Team A vs Team B.
  • Track teams in the leaderboard, as opposed to the individuals in each team.

    This is the frost bow build I’ve been running in solo q and tpvp for the past 4-5 months. It’s a single focus cc/dps spec that can successfully 1v1 any class (that is, if you play skillfully and have the timing down). The main idea is to chain cc to set-up deep freeze and ice storm, while simultaneously mitigating damage/interruption to this rotation.

    Specifics:

    Weapon set/sigils: scepter (battle) + focus (accuracy)
    Amulet/runes #1: zerker (valk jewel) + runes of the scholar x 6
    Amulet/runes #2: soldier (zerk jewel) + runes of rata sum x 6
    Utilities: ether renewal, arcane power, arcane shield, frost bow, fiery greatsword
    Traits: 0/30 (iv, ix, xii)/0/10 (iv)/30 (i, v, xii)

    Notes on rotation:

    The build is a bit technical, so I’ll elaborate. Generally, I open with the arcane shield to prevent interruptions against my main skill rotation. I begin in water and cast freezing gust > comet, followed by the air attune > blinding flash > lightning strike > gale (if my opponent is without stability/cc immunity).

    Once they’re knockdown, I move to fire and cast flamewall directly on the character (moving within the fire field to build might stacks), and then cast phoenix > dragon’s tooth. Immediately after starting the dragon’s tooth (before it’s channel is complete), I switch to earth and cast arcane power > magnetic wave > obsidian flesh.

    Due to elemental wave + arcane power, the flamewall is effectively turned into an immobilize field the moment I enter the earth attune. This combination of flamewall + magnetic wave yields 5 seconds of immobilize. I’ll also be invulnerable for 4 seconds thanks to obsidian flesh. In these conditions, it will be very difficult to evade my ice bow chain because a) immobilize is being reapplied in a pulse that renders condition cleanse and dodging more or less ineffective; and b) the ice bow attacks cannot be interrupted/blinded while invulnerable.

    This allows me to have a very high success rate in landing the deep freeze (#5) attack, which will lock down my target for another 5 seconds. At this point, I cast ice storm and immediately swap to water: because of piercing shards I get +20% damage to vulnerable foes (guaranteed by air 25: weak spot). The chances of surviving the full impact of ice storm is pretty low, as it gives upwards of 22-25k damage in zerker gear.

    If they aren’t dead by this point, I’ll hit them with frost fan at point blank range, drop the ice bow and immediately attune to air for a double lightning strike.

    That’s just one example of a rotation that is very effective, but there are many others….

    The meta hasn’t shifted that much. Now you see more immobalize stacking than before. Some teams might use an ele, but I haven’t seen one for any tournaments. As far as builds go, many run s/d fresh air. Others will run traditional builds and other run 0 20 20 0 30 with hoelbrak runes. Not sure about this frostbolt build. I wouldn’t recommend using staff.

    What are the most played builds in soloq?

    Hey guys, these days i’ve been thinking about maybe coming back to the game because I used to enjoy the pvp in gw2. Yesterday I logged in and to my surprise the mists in desolation were almost empty. This is a big issue to me, because I enjoy PvP for its competitiveness and a non existant scene doesn’t motivate me to play.

    However, I’ve seen that the game had a few good changes since I last played and that made me think that maybe there’s still hope. I also read that there are interesting changes incoming in early 2014 that peaked my interest, so I have a few questions

    a) To the devs: will you make big improvements or publicity in the near future to bring back (or improve) the playerbase we used to have before pax this summer
    ? What are your plans for pvp?
    b) To the players: Which teams still play in EU? Are there any tourneys planned? Is anyone out there in the same situation as me?

    For me (necro) ele is most untouchable class (if he knows how to play ofc). Even with engineers i don’t have such problem.

    Ele have too many different block, knockback, stun, move skills. When he is on low hp – he just move in 2k range in bloody second and i’m unable to chase him.

    I’m understand for being good on ele you have to properly use all 4 bars, but still, so OP.

    Yes, we’ve seen some of the more competitive teams disband or leave. There’s a pretty big drop-off in skill from the top tier, which means that anyone in the top tier doesn’t need to put as much effort in to practice.

    We can’t stop people from leaving. What we can do is keep developing the game until it’s in a good place, and those players don’t want to leave, or want to come back. In the meantime, I will continue to focus on helping support members of the community that do put in the extra effort to run tournaments or help new players. That’s the beauty of having a sub-free game.

    I know that’s probably not the answer you guys were looking for, but we are still working on the game. Yes, it’s likely not as fast as you want it to be, but there isn’t much we can do on that front except to keep pushing forward.

    So, our programmer looked into it and says that Skyhammer is actually one of the least played maps in the last 7 days. Looks like you guys just hit random.

    Have you guys considered removing this map from the rotation until it’s reworked/fixed?

    Based on my experience, only around 1/10 players like it.

    That said, you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up either. That “dated from last year” thing in particular could mean this was or still is a shelved project. It’ll take time even if they’re actively working on it.

    But like, they aren’t stupid. Don’t act like they are. They’re making decisions based on a whole lotta things we don’t know. You don’t have to agree with the decision but they aren’t sitting in a shadowy room going “yes, let’s make the players hate us by refusing to do things for them!”

    C’mon.

    They’re not stupid, but recent balance patches have proven they have a serious lack of perspective.

    We can’t scientifically know if they are stupid, but every content release leads us to this conclusion.

    Just give mesmers your condi clear access to protection off a 5 pt minor trait and healing off of a dodge roll. Guards have low health because they have high armor and good healing.

    Eles have low health because they have good healing and good access to boons and great condi clear.

    Thieves have low health because they have evade spam and stealth.

    Maybe anet should undo some nerfs instead. Or reduce the cd on armor of earth. Both would be good.

    Also D/D cleric eles still make some good back bunkers or far point assaulters… They just don’t do as much damage as they once did.

    You just won a 1st place prize at “talking without knowing”.

    Look at the screenshot below. Not a single autobalance was done in that (short) match, but some other times in (a lot) better balanced games it occurs. Why Anet? Why?

    Auto-balance doesnt look at ranks. It just moves people when one team has +2 players.

    I was rather “hardcore” HA player in GW1, but sPvP in GW2 just didn’t seem interesting to me back when I played it during the beta last year (I tried it out again this year, but it still seemed pretty much the same – like 5 months ago). It seemed chaotic, random, unorganized. The game mode didn’t seem appealing too.

    Has anything changed? Has arena net said anything about adding new PvP game modes or returning the old ones from GW1? I’m sure they’ll add GvG sooner or later.

    Many things have changed, but the pvp experience is the same (bad)

    > Balance is now worse
    > We now have a matchmaking & leaderboards that dont work
    > We have new bad designed maps
    > In game tournaments don’t exist anymore
    > You can pay money to rent a custom server

    Serious question folks: Does anyone in here thinks anet still cares/ever cared about pvp?

    For me it looks like all their ressources are put into pve, no matter how unsatisfied the pvp community is. I mean, just look at the last update: tons of stuff for pve and in pvp, they change a npc from human to quaggan plus writing the winners of a 2 month ago tournament on the wall of fame?

    Maybe stop designing new cosmetics(hairstyles/weapons skins) and do something fundamental. Ban skyhammer glory farmers, upgrade pvp rewards, build new maps/gamemodes, balance the meta. We dont need a freaking quaggan npc!!!

    When did you just lost all the love for pvp you had back in the days in gw1? :-(

    I think the 2 people that work in pvp work as hard as they can.

    In the over a year this game has been out, how many things can you think of that anet has done in response to community feedback?

    Paid/free tourney redesign, solo queue, random map generator, ele nerfs, necro/warrior buffs, 5v5 hotjoin, custom arenas, spectator mode, one-click salvaging, off the top of my head for PvP. Probably quite a few others I’m forgetting.

    You are also forgetting:
    - Unbalanced & unfair new conquest maps
    - Broken matchmaking
    - Poor & broken leaderboards
    - Class unbalance
    - Broken leaver penalty

    Only worthy addition was custom arenas, because it gives money to them.

    Listen if you’re just going to be negative with no evidence to back up your stats I’d suggest you refrain…

    Where’d you get 400 from? Just hotjoin servers probably have that much,
    20 full hotjoin servers are not an uncommon sight at primetime.

    That is a good point, but what IF you the reason you PvP was entirely because you enjoy the thrill of PvPing? What if, the reason some people PvP was simply because they enjoy PvP? I know it is so weird right, it is almost inhuman to think other players do things for non monetary gain.

    Oh come on, I do agree with most of the complaints, but the class is not that weak.

    Try playing it.

    Ele vs mesmer: Mesmer wins (unless he is using portal+illusion)
    Ele vs warrior: Warrior wins. Always
    Ele vs ranger: Ranger wins. Always
    Ele vs thief: Thief wins, unless he is really bad.
    Ele vs necro: Necro wins
    Ele vs engi: engi wins
    Ele vs guardian: No one wins.

    Why would any team bring a class that is likely to lose every 1v1?

    - Considering a fair 1v1 vs an equally skilled player.

    FYI this is why they don’t tell us what the patch notes are. If people like you are going to nit-pick at a single discrepancy which was already publicly addressed then how the hell do you expect them to release a fluid set of notes subject to change?

    They said the patch will be on the 15th. Chill the kitten out people.

    Fine but the context is that october 1st is already 2 months after people wanted changes. So don’f forget that. If they delay something which already got delayed for stupid reasons then people should not accept it.

    We were told 2 weeks ago in an official pre-release balance patch notes that we will get balance on october 15, This automatically superceded any previous mentioned of october 1, to anybody that doesn’t like to QQ for the sake of QQ.

    We have a lot to QQ about (as an ele I do), but this isn’t one of them.

    Anyway who cares about spvp? Devs clearly don’t.

    I miss the ele meta. At least there was skill in deffending close without letting the ele decap, having 2 players bursting ele at the same time, interrupting heals, etc.

    Right now it’s all about spamming conditions, dodging every time is up and stacking toughness while relying on passive effects. So sad.

    FYI this is why they don’t tell us what the patch notes are. If people like you are going to nit-pick at a single discrepancy which was already publicly addressed then how the hell do you expect them to release a fluid set of notes subject to change?

    They said the patch will be on the 15th. Chill the kitten out people.

    It’s ok. They can take their time. When 0 people watches the pvp stream you might realize 4 months of doing nothing is way too much.

    Seriously now, i have to wait 2 more weeks for some change in this boring-frustrating meta?Where did the slow and steady approach went?Seriously how many tournaments full of spirits and aoe i have to see?Its been 4 months, we are literaly screaming in forums for some air…

    Dude, since release each balance patch has been for worse. You don’t really want the patch now, because game will be unplayable afterwards.
