I agree chemic, I really don’t get why they can’t create raids for 10-15 players in instances. A lot of people immediately assume that a raid = vertical progression and that couldn’t possibly be any further from the truth. It depends on how the system is implemented. To be fair it probably would be vertical considering the path ANet is going down.

Personally I’d just like some challenging content that doesn’t bring me down to 10FPS and depend on 100 other people just to down one boss within a certain time limit.

On the matter of leveling, I never expected it to take so long in GW2. In GW1 you got max level in a day or less if you knew what you were doing. (I can do it in a few hours)

But yeah, it was expected that people would still blow through the levels and be expecting some end game. Instead of adding sufficient end game they put in a bunch more grind and fractals is all we’ve got this entire time. We just now got the first revamped open world boss and people already abandoning it due to its requirements.

Pretty lame. GW2 dungeons are about the same as WoW heroic 5 mans… not even close to an end game, those are just for grinding lootz and everyone knows it. I can just imagine a 10man raid with liadri difficulty – hell yes. Guarantee that keeps the hardcores busy for a long time if it has a lot of bosses, since 90% of the time on difficult content you are learning the fight and refining your skills for it.

This game hasn’t seen anything like that yet but it would require a save and lockout(debatable) feature, where you down the first boss and can leave the instance saving that bosses defeat – so you can come back later and progress to the next boss.

You know, real pve progression.

It’s nothing special, your typical glass cannon build, grab a short bow and S/P then tag one of the mobs, go around a corner so you can ball them up then put a black powder down and spam pistol whip.

It’s global, and I wouldn’t use anything less than 5% damage but that’s my preference. With sigil of fire on main.

That’s spvp tho, I often run 3might on swap with 25trait in shadow arts and might on dodge to maintain about 15-20 stacks of might in general pve or WvW.

Lots of choices, all about what play style you use.

May as well stick to zerker, SoM + dagger storm will cripple an army and give you lolinsane heals no matter how much retal you’re getting. I always switch to SB for zergs and do quite good aoe damage with it.

Press dagger storm, shadow step in zerg, once finished step back out and switch to SB to continue spamming clusters. S/P to get stragglers and still have some nice cleave and an oshi- button with inf. strike.

I have tried venom share in WvW though, it is hilarious to see those bask venoms go off. People don’t really have to be aware that they have it, just try to stand near as many allies as possible and blow all venoms lol. Don’t forget the heal on venom hit trait also works for allies I believe.

30 SA for perma regen, heal in stealth, and condi removal when you are getting used to the thief gameplay.

If you are so used to playing a war you can easily just go berserkers S/P on thief and spam 3 for aoe damage and evade while doing it. It’s pretty boring but not much different than what a war does, stand there and dps lol. You also have access to black powder, inf. strike, and an interrupt with headshot. It’s a very useful set.

lol is Jeff Strain or any other GW1 dev even still with ANet? That interview is 5 years old.

I highly doubt this to be of any relevance because they have made it abundantly clear GvG is not going to make a cameo in GW2. A year of begging for it will attest to that.

And HoH in GW2… yeah, that’s definitely not going to be an AoE spam fest. Damage is far too high in this game and without monks I doubt any GW1 modes would work, unless they gave us a passive damage reduction or something.

Good thing they went with LOLDAMAGEALLTHEWAY so we can’t have cool stuff, right?

Bad difficulty: Liadri, some dungeons (Arah, SE, the older TA, AC p2), Harpies in fractals

Good difficulty: Kholer, Lupicus, Subject Alpha and some other bosses, etc.

Please explain how Liadri was bad difficulty, because I thought it was an amazing challenge.

Arguments I could agree with: Lag, terrible camera.

Yeah harpies are so freaking stupid, ANet thinks annoying = challenging or fun, seriously they are oblivious.

Yeah but most likely they can’t add Cantha, one of the things NCsoft is holding them back on. They even had to remove the Canthan district in Divinity’s Reach.

Palawa Joko is probably the coolest villain in the GW lore, I’ve loved him since NF first hit. Fanboi scream!

His story is epic and we brought him back because we needed his help and now look at him – and ANet refuse to expand on amazing stories such as this and give us these silly crappy villains in LS lol.

I agree traditional quests are awesome when they aren’t just grind x. Think pre-expansion quests in WoW that sent you across the world instead of sticking you to that one specific zone. Quests have evolved a lot and your example in the OP is perfect on how they should do them.

Events are probably too complex to be multi-zone faceted but quests sure aren’t.

You start off reading a scroll in queensdale and multiple tasks later you end up in an 80 zone summoning a lich to defeat him for killing your mysterious dead man who left his family to avenge his brother. Or something :p maybe his spirit gets summoned after killing the lich and you finally get to put him to rest.

Also, it’s easier to put in text than voicing everything, and a lot of people like me prefer reading a story. Remember when we used our imagination in older RPGs? Now everything is voiced and really takes away from the feels imo unless the acting is reaaaally good, which is rare.

comparing gw1 and gw2 is like comparing console based OS and touch based OS. sure memorizing commandline commands is cooler and requires more brains than a touching and pinching graphical user interface. but guys, which between the 2 is dead, obsolete and outdated?

Over 95% of all the servers and supercomputers out there in the world running Linux / BSD, and a bunch of programmers would like to disagree with saying the terminal is dead.

For example, I doubt anyone can search for all files matching a certain regular expression, then automatically rename those files in bulk based on a set of rules you define, and create a list of all occurences of people’s names and corresponding dates found within all those files and format it nicely into a new file, on a touch pad all automatically with ease.

Turning around that analogy, actually beyond the surface and the pretty effects and eye candy and casual-friendly touch screen (or gw2), the old one is much more polished, elite, has higher potential and a higher skill ceiling, and is much more powerful than the new generation’s casual-friendly system can ever be.

The problem is, GW1 PvP wasn’t really spectator-friendly and gamers are becoming more casual every passing year.

Get slapped! But I think GW1 was more spectator friendly than GW2, seeing as how you weren’t blinded by particle effects. You did however need to know about the game and what was being done to understand anything.

Still trying to determine how this is so much worse than Anet locking cross campaign looks behind the makeover kit in GW1. People were fine with that…. but suddenly a similar thing here isn’t? At least here, you can convert gold to gems and get it, in GW1 there is no such thing. It’s fork over $10 or gfy….

I think the fact that a major dungeon designer and GW1 enthusiast gets laid off because he didn’t want his final dungeon to be temporary content speaks for itself.

And that’s not all the devs that have left either, but I won’t go too much into it, the information is there, and it speaks volumes about ANet right now.

They don’t even listen to their own employee’s, doesn’t get much worse than that.

Ohh please thats not what happened. We dont even know if he was laid off or decided to leave himself. in any case all he said was that he wished his last work would be something that remained permanently which makes sense everyone wants stuff we do especially your last bit of work on a project to last forever. In no way shape or form did he say he left or was fired because he wanted his dungeon to be permanent.

I’m pretty sure was laid off, just look at his facebook or the twitter post.

Quite the sad story tbh.

I think ANet have a very skewed view of fun since they dropped GW1.

Mindless grinding for example does not = fun.

Fun is subjective. I can almost guarantee the stuff that I found fun in Guild Wars 1 you didn’t and vice versa. You don’t get to have a monopoly definition on what fun is.

According to their lore logic, this redone scarlet path will ALSO be removed at some point when we move past her story, lmao.

I’m not gonna pretend I enjoyed F/U but I lol’d pretty hard at the comment from the first page “even the permanent content in this game is temporary”. Sad, but true.

Maybe this has to do with lack of dungeon designers, since they fired Robert for wanting his dungeons to be permanent content.

No one likes temporary content ANet, please, get this through your thick ignorant skulls. No one liked when Cataclysm ruined the entire world, either. Sure the questing was better but it left a bad taste in our mouths after being a part of that world for so long.

I can’t stand how willing devs are to throw things away like that.

Drops did not and do not suck in GW1, you are high. The only thing you could argue is there wasn’t enough gold sinks making drops essentially pointless unless you got a chaos axe or something to use.

I blame that on ANet abandoning the game.

Yeah, I played GW1 for 7 years bro and still do. At least you can salvage mods off of ‘grapes’ or rares, get a title for IDing, and even use the weapon regardless of your class.

Learn to play hard mode if your drops suck, never once had a bad loot experience in GW1. I always got something out of a mission with or without other players.

You can’t tell me you ever left DoA/FoW/UW/SE without something worth while. Yeah GW2 drops more loot, but that loot is pure garbage.

Even in pvp a few matches yielded you a zkey which you can try your luck on the zaishen chest or simply sell it for 5 plat. Tell me an equal easy way to obtain wealth in GW2 without having to grind events 24/7. GW1 was the least amount of grind for the best amount of wealth vs effort in any game I’ve ever played.

Ectos dropped off regular elites btw so it was especially worth it to kill ‘trash’ in dungeons.

Sweet because utility skills are totally what we want, not new weapon sets or the ability to swap weapon skills out. Hell, they could get crazy with it and even make most of the skills that are useless in pve actually useful.

In Guild Wars 1, in five years, I could count the times I heard trash mob used on one hand. No one called trash mobs trash in Guild Wars 1, because they could drop black and white dyes, or lockpicks in Eye of the North or anywhere in hard mode.

The idea that some mobs are trash and can’t reward you is ludicrous. It comes from games where that is literally not true. But you can get a rare, exotic or even a precursor from a trash mob.

People who skip trash mobs and complain about not getting drops at all make me laugh.

After killing trash for so long in this game and not getting anything out of it except useless blues and greens, it makes sense why we call it trash.

You wanna know why people never called trash in GW1 trash? Because… wait for it… wait for iiiiiiiiiit… THEY ACTUALLY DROPPED LOOT LOLOLOLO!

It would be impossible to create cutscenes with as much detail as the short stories, unfortunately, with the budget constraints most MMOs face.

Or more bluntly, do you want even more resources taken away from the actual game in favor of an exposition-heavy cutscene?

Why not, not like the content we get is of any quality. The GW1 cutscenes outshine GW2 by over 9000 and the game was filled with them. Guess it wasn’t so expensive after all considering ANet is much larger now with a way bigger budget…

I’d cut the writers some slack. These days it is hard to stay away from cliches because now almost every possible idea in modern civilization has already been used multiple times.

Cut the writers some slack? Why are they so dead set on telling this garbage mini stories instead of touching on ALREADY ESTABLISHED GW LORE, you know, from that one game we played for 7 years?

It’s funny that all we’ve gotten is filler between what would be in any other MMO, waiting time for an expansion to touch on the main story. Since they’re apparently not doing an expansion this is what we can expect? There is an insane amount of GW1 lore that hasn’t even finished and it’s all being ignored in favor of living grind, I mean story.

The only actual GW lore they have touched on is a very very brief explanation of the Guild Wars told by Trahearne in your personal story and they butchered the entire elder dragon story. I think people cared more about Death Wing than Zhaitan, pretty terrible because both are horrible.
