Lol @ Horrible Mobility. All mobility options aside (spectal walk, dark path, flesh wurm) aoe cripples, fears and permachills make your enemies mobility much more cumbersome.

Personally besides minion AI, my major complaint is that I wish Death Shroud wasn’t such an obstructive/intrusive interface.

Otherwise great thread, I think Necros bring a lot to the table and are underrated as a whole. Being short/mid-range focused, I find myself to be at lower hp than my teammates a lot in dungeons, but I think a lot of that is doing more than my fair share of tanking. And of course, inherent melee disadvantages.

That’s a good question! Why don’t you try it and see!

If I had to guess it wouldn’t surprise me of the revive trait only worked in instances where you bend down and revive someone, or that there would be a short internal cooldown for activating it.

It’s a good one. It’s not in my regular rotation for utilities but when Epidemic or Well of Suffering isn’t going to cut it for a tough encounter, it’s a great one to bring along to pick up an ally or two in trouble when they may need it most.

I think it has a lot of value in being able to pull someone off point and then dagger 3 for immobilize, for a free neutralize in sPvP. But yeah, unreliability is a liability. And plus other classes can knock off points better, engi/guard come to mind. But necros have their share of advantages too.

Well, I don’t know how you keep 25% up all the time, but you can get quite a lot of vuln regardless. And also it doesn’t affect condition damage since that is already negating all armor. But I agree with your overall point.

This is kind of depressing.

Not that vulnerability really do much until you hit the 25% cap. Slap on fury and get instant double that or more for the duration. Vulnerability provide about as much as might pr unit, except might also boosts condition damage.

A rather irrelevant remark when we have 1 way to “slap on fury.” And that’s the Furious Demise trait in Curses.

Fury is very strong but that’s probably part of the reason it’s not particularly easy to get. Necros are the best at vulnerabiltiy stacking, especially with Well of Suffering and Epidemic. I actually just retooled my build to make it focus on Epidemic and spreading vulnerability, chills, weakness and immobilizes. In a group setting it’s very easy to keep up large vulnerability stacks on your own. The question is if that utility makes you worth bringing. On top of damage and survivability, I think the offensive boost and defensive boost to your whole group is excellent. But it’s hard making those claims without more definitive proof and without numbskulls who will always take the most obvious route thinking roles are as simple as 1, 2, 3.

I think we’ll have a better idea of who is capable of what when Fractals start hitting walls in what level people are maxing out at.

I think the guy saying because we’re good at everything that just makes us mediocre is mistaken because class roles are not as rigid as they are in other MMOs.

They’re okay, they’re not any good at burst damage, and not the best bunker, and fulfill a more hybrid/support role and therefore will always be unpopular as they’ll rarely be a primary class in a team comp. But they have their strengths.

You’ll probably get a lot of discouraging responses in this thread though since most people come to forums to complain.

I’ve never played a heavy condition spec, so I wouldn’t know, but what’s nice about necros conditions is the variety of conditions they can reliably apply. They have a lot of every condition but Burning, basically. And only one Immobilize. (does bone fiend still immo?)

If you look threw some of today threads someone said that the number one rated player in spvp is a necro and when i looked up his build it was alot of Vitality. Unfortunately he didn’t have gear on the page just jewelery and runes.

In the end though it’s all about your play style.

Eh, sure, but not for this conversation. For this conversation it’s a lot about the math. What gets you the most bang. Playstyle choices may derive from getting traits or runes that benefit from toughness, but aside from that it’s straight math. Which I haven’t done. If I had to guess I’m guessing a balance of both gets you the most for your money. But as necros already have high base HP, I’m not sure what the magic numbers are.

I have 10 points in death on my PvP spec, and I’ve never seen the rally bug. Not saying it’s never happened, but I’m not even sure why it would happen. Minions don’t grant rally normally, why would this one?

I think it’s a great rune for any build.

That said, while I think Necros are a strong class, I don’t think they are a good choice for a burst spec, and hardly even seem capable of burst damage. If you’re looking for a burst spec, I’d look to other classes. It’s just not playing to Necros strengths.

However, feel free to prove me wrong. A burst spec with the innate survivability provided from Death Shroud sounds very strong.

No. not “/thread” because this was in the October 22nd patch notes:

Corrupt Boon: This skill now properly removes aegis rather than being blocked by it.

Sure, Necros are not the best at any one role. But at least 4-5 classes will always be that. Kravick and other people on these forums are acting like they’re broken and utterly useless at anything, but they certainly bring things to the table, top DPS isn’t one of them, no matter the spec. But considering all the conditions, durability and trickiness they bring to the table, they shouldn’t be a top DPS class.

They’re buggy and a slew of bugs were fixed this patch, just like other classes and this entire game. But please, don’t try to discredit my opinion because my opinions and observations don’t align with yours. You don’t know me.

For the record, this is what the OP asked:
“Is the class really that bad? Do we have to work 10x harder then another class to get the same end results in PvP and PvE?”

The answer is absolutely not.

Where after I die, the map just gets stuck loading forever until I alt + f4. I’ll let you know if it happens again.

This was similar to what was happening before it was fixed a few patches back.

PS death shroud is really awesome I really have no idea what Kravick is talking about. It’s been a life saver a million times, a long chill and 3 stacks of bleeds on your 2, a fear, and Life Transfer is just strong as hell, and Life Blast (1) is some of the classes highest DPS if your life force is full.

Not to mention I find it an enjoyable resource to manage.

Also Kravick it sounds like you roll with some bad necros or necros who are more built around utility or defensiveness.

I enjoy the heck out of my necro. I’ve never been a big fan of minions but I enjoy all our other class mechanics quite a bit.

I’ve played 6/8 classes in PvP and think Necros definitely have their place in solo PvE, group PvE and PvP, yeah there are bugs but every class I’ve played is buggy. If you like the class, play it. I think they bring a lot to the table.

I really have no idea what you’re talking about. I haven’t played my necro since patch but patch notes didn’t seem to note any life force generation changes aside from FIXING the soul reaping trait line stats.

Mark of Evasion: This trait is no longer a blast finisher when the mark is created.

Mark of Blood wasn’t a blast finisher in the first place.

Why is everyone kittening? I think the class is doing great and has viable places in PvE and PvP? What’s the “one viable” spec? I certainly don’t know it and am doing fine. I know it’s not my spec cause noone is my spec.

Wells don’t cause damaging conditions, therefore they don’t deal condition damage. They cause periodic ticks of damage, but it’s affected by power, not condition damage.

For elites, I think Plague is pretty unmatched for PvP. Perma-blind is too powerful of a tool to pass up, but I’m sure some would disagree. For Solo PvE, I’m really keen on flesh golem. For group PvE, I think either Lich or Plague work well, depending on what role you’re going for. Lich offers raw offensive power while Plague offers utility, basically lets you tank anything and slow incoming damage to a crawl on your group for 15 seconds.

This is the build I’ve been running for like 200 games:

axe/focus
dagger/warhorn

30 spite
20 blood
20 soul reaping

I’ve tried dropping the points in blood but I just felt waaay too squishy. I play it as a spectral focused roamer, picking up spectral grasp and spectral walk, allowing me to move around the map quickly and pull people off the points. Combined with Dagger 3’s immobilize, I’m pretty good at neutralizing points, but not the best. My blood traits focus on maxing healing potential, and my talents in soul reaping are spectral cooldowns and DS cooldowns. Personally I find the build rather effective, but if you guys have any trait recommendations I’m all ears. I think the build is certainly viable.

As far as playstyle, I almost never hit axe 1, I’m usually spamming the other skills as axe, or popping into death shroud to lay down Dark Path and a fear and a hit of Life Blast if my LF is high. Otherwise, the daggers 1 is great auto attack damage. Otherwise Dagger/Warhorn 2-5 is my utility kit, obviously. Axe/Focus works as my damage, and between Axe/Focus 3 and 4 and Life Transfer, my AoE damage is pretty solid(considering I’m not packing any wells)

One thing I really like about the build is how much Chilling it offers, between Dark Path, Spinal Shivers and Spectral Grasp, I can keep most my foes chilled most the time.

They of course haven’t succeeded in catering to every person, but given the variety of PvP, Low level PvE, higher level PvE, fun activities, puzzles, story driven events and fun items, they’ve definitely tried to cater to everyone!

I’m sure they’ve learned a lot from this on how to make everyone happier next time around too.

He does bring up a good issue about the LFG spam in chat though, regardless. That’s one of the games bigger issues is the lack of an effective grouping system. Now hell no I don’t want something like WoW’s where you have absolutely no connection and just pop a queue into a dungeon with strangers you couldn’t even play with after the dungeon, but the game could do a much better job at getting players looking for groups in front of each other. Some kind of chat or interface is greatly needed. It would be great to be able to find groups for dungeons outside of the actual zone its in or Lion’s Arch.

I’m still not sure why people get flustered about tower so much. Spent ~30mins raging at it first. Since im necro with everything broken and no passive speed naturally(hell even mad kings outfit for which i payed is broken for necromancer only)… but after I did it I ended up farming it for about an hour or so for bags… did 30? runs… then I got bored doing blind jumping with all the blasted norns and charrs and considering regular bags are a waste of time. I left and didn’t feel any inclination to ever go back to it.
But fact is its doable even on necro ~_~. For classes that can get speed buff… should be cake walk.

Necros have a speed buff, 10-15% in Blood, the trait that grants you movespeed if you’re using a dagger. unless that one doesn’t work? But regardless it’s very very doable at base movespeed. I’ve been doing it over and over on my necro and only my necro, without those traits even. I’ve been doing it because it’s fun

Otherwise I’ve been doing mad king runs a lot now trying to get some of the good loot, but now been spending a lot of time in the PvP minigames stomping people who don’t understand the objectives >_> It’s a great event though loaded with content for everyone.

I think they’ll keep the minigames and the majority of the content but I’m hoping the focus isn’t the story. Can involve the mad king but shouldn’t be the same series of events. No reason not to reuse the stuff they already have though.

If grinding pumpkins to carve isn’t your thing you guys should check out Lunatic Inquisition (zombies done GW2 if you’re familiar with that game mode in games) or Reaper’s…something. Kinda MOBAish in that you collect pumpkins in the field to grow skeletons in your mausoleums and try to take your enemies mausoleums down. Both lots of fun, took me a round to understand what was going on in Lunatic Inquisition!!

GW does great minigames and even if they don’t give much in the way of rewards, are just worth doing because they’re fun and won’t get a chance to until next year or maybe never!

I’ll be playing Valve’s Scream Fortress update. They know how to do Halloween right. Everyone gets cool costume items to collect, not just the super rich level 80s, or people who spend $100’s in the cash shop. Anet should take notes.

Am I the only one confused on how to use the candy powered matter meter? I realize it requires candy corn to use now thanks to the forums, which seems obvious, and I found strong readings but using the different types of matter scanning doesn’t seem to be changing anything.

It’s an annoyance. He didnt act like it was game breaking. My guess is it’s a technical problem, since the low level areas are instanced and separate from the world. But at the same time, you can enter the mists from dungeons, right? But where does it spit you out when you leave? If it’s anywhere but where you jumped into the Mists I could see bugs arising from a story/event perspective.

It’s not a big deal but it’s something that would be nice to have.

Current things larger detriments to team mentality that are much worse than a superficial stat in a team game:

Awarding rank points only when you are ON POINT for a cap, not for contributing to it. Would much rather have my team rushing to “tap” a point and running along than sitting on it uselessly till capped.

Awarding no rank points for defending points. Obviously a little more complex to solve, most sensical ones could be earning points slowly while sitting near capped points, or while engaged in combat near capped points.

it’s ok if you play in tournaments… you can just pay 4 vs 5 if guardian stand in 1 point and everyone skips him…

The problem becomes more complex with 3 bunker teams. Not impossible by any stretch, but not as simple in my experiences.

I guess I could see your point, I could see competitive players just starting to opt to die instantly on being downed most of the time ot make another rez or something instead of waiting it out.

But it could have a 10-15 second cooldown or something, easy remedy though. Sure you could just let yourself bleed out like you do now but you might not realize that’s their intention (to leave you there) till you’re 3/4s up.

Maining necro, I’d like to see this as your 1 heals you if you’re trying to weaken a foe while you bleed out. Just seems smart overall too to include that option. I’m a little iffy about revive and death being right next to each other though.

I’m trying to figure out what’s going on here. Often times my Spectral Grasp (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spectral_Grasp) will knock a foe over who I hit it with, but will not pull them to me. It wouldn’t be stability because then I shouldn’t be able to knock them down, correct? Is something else preventing people from pulled/pushed? Has anyone else encoutered this with any other push/pull moves?
