HPS: Ventari vs Druid?

in Revenant

Posted by: Mercurias.1826

Mercurias.1826

As a quick note for the OP, your meantion of of HPS in your title makes me think a suggestion might be in order.

Most of the time, when raid healing, the important thing isn’t the raw math; it’s what you can do in a clutch situation when your people are in a bad spot. Heal per second is only going to be ideal when topping off HP or handling a steady outpouring of damage (like a perma poison). In this game, a lot of the healing your characters need can already be done on your own, since everyone has access to a potent heal in their own right. That places the “healer” role in GW2 very firmly in a spike heal sort of situation most of the time, at least in the way Druid was designed. The rest of the time, they can or should be doing something based on team enhancement, DPS, or preferably both.

There isn’t anything outright wrong with sustain healing. It takes some of the urgency out of the work of a burst type healer, after all, and on a guardian you can run sustain healing by equipping the elite signet and just existing near your team or hitting things near a Necro who has the right blood magic traits. I just don’t think everyone needs to run a pure healing build, or else the DPS of a party will plummet from an outpouring of cleric’s gear and damage checks will begin to fail.

Ventari is useful, but its primary usefulness right now comes from its reflect ability. Oddly, it’s heals seem to benefit most in the open world and/or solo. This comes from a player who has climbed to 80 and primarily used Ventari because it’s still really fun.

Now I’m so amused by people being uncomfortable that I want it to stay as is even more. Revenant’s secret drawback: you feel really weird about your character hearing his grandmother’s voice every time he uses the powers of his ghost dragon legend. XD

Daggers is the best pve weapon

Mercurias.1826

Eh. I tend to carry one of every weapon, and I use all of them depending on the situation.

I like the dagger a lot for its steady damage, especially when paired with Blood magic. The utilities are a flat DPS loss, but they still occasionally come in handy when I have to stay at range. As an offhand, I like the dagger for condi builds rather than power builds, though it’s skill 4 is very good for condi cleansing solo when you need it.

My particular gameplay experience has made the Necro greatsword easy to pick up and play, though I understand the difficulties some folks are having. It isn’t as nice with blood magic unless you also trait it to siphon life on top, but it works VERY well all the same in PvE and certain situational PvP and WvW circumstances. In other words, I like it a lot, but I won’t tell others they have to use it.

Also, if you check out the forum code of conduct, you actually aren’t supposed to call out Anet or the staff, and you also aren’t supposed to post “I demand an answer” threads, which this is pretty close to. I’d give it a read-over before you post again just to be safe, alright?

I agree with a lot that was said in this thread. Part of Revenant being so strong and streamlined is because it was made recently, with the Devs years of experience and knowledge of the current game. I believe that, if they had a chance to do some things over, a few of our game classes would be similarly streamlined and altered to suit the current game.

It’s also a very new class, and it’s being worked on alongside the release of raids, Wintersday, and a lot of other content.

I would give it some time and try to enjoy the class as it is while providing constructive feedback as you go. If you don’t like it, then don’t play it.,

It’s really about that simple.

Revenant has no specific race/lore identification the way some classes (like Charr and engineers) do. As a matter of fact, racial skills don’t even work for Revenants because they weren’t balanced to utilize the energy system.

As usual, I think it seems a touch sillier to play an Asura as a Revenant due to how small they are and how physical he class is, but it’s easy o conceptualize some kind of prosthetic assistance in their armor, especially the racial gear.

Even if you don’t roleplay, this dev-written guide for RPing a Rev could give you all the lore we really know on the subject:https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hidden-arcana-role-playing-the-revenant/

How is Necro/Reaper for PVE now?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mercurias.1826

Mercurias.1826

Necros are bruiser mages. They have warrior hp, respectable damage, solid condi cleansing, and Shroud mechanics. Sustain comes from blood magic traits and other vampiric skills, as well a good amount of regen.

On the bad side, their high defense and hp is at a loss when it comes to vigor generation. Gotta be sparing with dodges. Necros don’t contribute much in the way of boons and buffs to a party. Necros don’t deal high Power-based DPS at range (condi is pretty good).

When you start leveling, the dagger Mainhand is going to be your friend. It works very well with blood magic for survival, has high damage with the autoattack, and can be traited to give a movement speed boost via blood magic. Running Dagger/Warhorn is pretty common when leveling.

I recommend training blood magic up quickly. As stated earlier, it gives a lot,of your sustain.

If you want to play with minions then invest in Death Magic, which strengthens them and makes you more durable. Minions were recently buffed in PvE as far as survival goes, so it’s worth using them more often. They also work well with blood magic.

If you want raw DPS, going Spite is helpful. It has a good number of traits to help improve your DPS in little ways, but of course the best is Closer to Death, which raises your DPS by 20% when enemies are under half health.

Curses is a good trait line for condition damage, as well as dps in general.

Revenant is probably the easiest to both play and contribute well on in events, and it very strong solo.

Reaper is incredibly powerful. I dragooned through the main HoT story with this and was both strong and very durable. I am in love with this spec and have used it all over with at least moderate success, but in open world PvE it does extremely well.

Scrapper is a lot more fiddly to play. Most of its traits offer higher sustain and support over raw DPS, but some of that sustain, with the right gear, lets it do some outrageous things. I always prefer running engie and scrapper with groups so allies can take advantage of my combo fields. Solo can be done, of course, but I don’t find it as fun to play.

Mercurias.1826

This is nothing like Stockholme Syndrome. I am not a prisoner or hostage, and neither are you. I have the freedom to choose to do anything in the world. I enjoy playing games when I have spare time, so I could play any other game. I love this game, and I choose to play it.

I don’t waste time and energy on a nonexistent alternate reality where things are more convenient for me, hoping that Anet will make a patch just for me; I live in this current present, and I make the choice to live with and accept the current circumstances. If I thought that the Guild Hall costs were too difficult for me, then I wouldn’t bother with it.

I’m sharing my opinion, and sharing what helps me to enjoy the game more. I never said that all other opinions were wrong. I did indicate that certain other views wouldn’t enjoy this game or this experience. I offered suggestions on how some other people may enjoy the game more, specifically citing my own experiences as examples. “Individual experience may vary”, after all, so why not try to see the world from someone else’s perspective and learn from it? I am aware of the other viewpoints on the subject; I have seen them both in-game and on the forums. I decided to offer my viewpoint.

“The correct mentality is needed to enjoy the experience.”

“learn to be patient, and you will be much happier.”

I’m sorry, but regardless of what your intentions are, telling people what the correct mentality is and suggesting that they learn to be patient is patronizing.

“I live in this current present, and I make the choice to live with and accept the current circumstances.”

Are you really making the choice as much as you think you are though? You just said you love the game. You say you’re not a prisoner or hostage (and obviously you aren’t literally – refuting that point is strawman stuff) but it’s pretty weird the way you talk about learning how to enjoy it and then you say you love the game, too.

It sounds to me like what you’re saying is, you love the game enough that you’re willing to adjust your mentality to make yourself enjoy parts of it. Sounds like kind of an abusive relationship to me. I can’t get inside your head. I’m just saying that’s what it sounds like.

That’s incorrect, insulting, narcissistic, and stupid all in one post. Good job. I’m sure mommy and daddy are proud.

Not all people have to adjust their mentality to enjoy the game. Many of them simply don’t care about the rinky-dink bonuses that need reclaiming.

Your entire argument for Stockholme’s Sybdrome is so pants-on-head, malignantly kitten that I’m simultaneously angered and feel sorry for you at the same time. You see play time in a video game as being captured, and that probably means you need to liberate yourself by uninstalling, showering, and going outside.

Stockholme’s syndrome is when you have actually been captured or held hostage in the real world and develop sympathy for your captors. It’s as bad, and exactly as mature, as calling your mommy and daddy kittens for not letting you see Saw that one time.

(PvE) Warhorn use i dont understand

Mercurias.1826

Some people like me who dont run gs (too clumsy and slow, easy to interrupt, avoid by blinding/evading, long cooldowns, low single target life force gain) stick to dagger and wonder what to use best for offhand. Right now focus has better damage utility (boon removal, chill, vulnerability) with better single target lf, and dagger is awesome for survi (condi transfer, blind, aoe weakness). And yet i still hear warhorn is superior. Can some1 explain to me why?
Because right now i think it is just a relic of the past.

Are you actually wondering anything here or is this just a naked ploy to voice a strongly held opinion?

Nobody says you have to use the greatsword or warhorn. Play how you want.

Don’t make fun of things, however, because you can’t make them work for you.

No one has stated Blood Magic is a bad trait line. For what it does, it works well, and it can actually add to the DPS of a build while providing mitigating healing sustain in melee. It works best with Dagger, however, and in situations where most players are going for greatsword or condition builds, the dagger is seeing less use and the slower strikes of the other weapons get less added DPS and survival from the life drain. Give it some time and you’ll see the game shift in response to some new mechanic or skill alteration which will result in Blood Magic seeing more use. It could be as soon as the 17th.

As for the warhorn? Most of the time the dagger requires you to sit in autoattack anyway for maximum DPS and life drain since dagger 2 and 3 are a flat DPS loss. People like the cripple from dagger 5 and the bar break in dagger 4’s daze. The recharge time is long, yeah, but most dagger Necros are used to just standing there and hitting 1 at things. It’s how I played in PvE for about two years, so I’d know.

So as an example with the first trait line unlocked for reaper. Whhat trait setups should I run if you’re saying reaper is good to go with from the first unlock?

I think I’ll try out dagger/warhorn and greatsword to see how it fairs. Really excited to unlock reaper fully and use rise. So much more exciting than my revenant at the moment.

I ran with your same weapon setup for a while. The melee DPS was absolutely fantastic, but I kept running into situations where I wanted/needed to go ranged.

Personally. I kept the greatsword and used the staff for offhand ranged dps/utility. I was also running Chilling Victory, however, so the added AoE chills were great for me and might not suit your build so well. Now and again I also use axe/focus or axe/warhorn for combat situations, but as much as I actually like the axe, I prefer the Staff.

I main my Necromancer because it is a straightforward class with great survival. It’s also just insanely fun to play both solo and in teams. My GS Reaper has seen a whole lot of use lately in PvE, PvP, Guild Hall claiming, and even a bit of WvW. I have an easy time swapping traits and skills around on the fly, and I always enjoy it. Necro,is just the class I click with in GW2 the most, and Reaper especially.

Right now I enjoy running around with Shouts, GS, Staff, and Spectral Grasp. I like being able to Darth Vader force pull enemies to be, hit Nightfall, Gravedigger until recharge actually happens, and then change to Reaper Shroud and continue the carnage.

Then pop out and yank something else into my murder field.

I’m having a ball.

The question is whether or not I should go for Arms for added Bleed and proc on crit in the above build or something with Discipline, with slightly quicker primal bursts and a bit more toughness: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJAQNAseTnMdAdeglCCefAciglyATpDE5iAJBgBQC4dw2YjsA-TBSAABxs/Q0nBAF1HEwhAAgHAAqq/MpSwxU+FA4AY36W3dDM+4jP+4j3u7u7u7ubpAgYZF-e

For what it’s worth, OP, I agree that a stiff challenge makes the reward feel sweeter when you finally get it. I’m also thirty years old, however. It’s easier for me to step back, take a breath, and get a little bit of perspective from the fact that this is only a game.

One of the best memories of a prior MMO involved everyone in my guild throw down an extremely high money goal for a piece of housing and then bend themselves to it. Over the course of a week, my newbie self learned how to craft, gather, and farm alongside much more experienced players while we threw every nickel and time towards the effort.

Eventually we made it, got our house, and by that time were so ambitious that we bought another small house just to prove how awesome we were.

I don’t care that a few things were rewound a little bit. The chance in this game to build a fully functioning base which supports your group has my fingers itching.

I’ve gotten into PvP on this game for the first real time since launch. I played it for hours to save up mats to use for building an arena, and I had a blast.

If you’re having fun, then be glad you’re having fun. Don’t look to the forums for the main opinion of people playing the game, because this place is so freaking salty that it could brine every Thanksgiving turkey about to be cooked in the US at no charge and so self-entitled about it that they’d get mad unless there was a salt achievement.

Revenants will also likely be popular for raid groups. They offer significant DPS and boons to their teams.

Shiro's heal skill

in Revenant

Posted by: Mercurias.1826

Mercurias.1826

Lol it is one of the best rev skills. To sum up it is about 6k dmg and 5k heal. You just have to use it properly. It works like signet (f.e. malice) but with activation and dps boost.

I can use Signet of Malice, it can be supplemented since thieves have the tools to help, such as caltrops being able to proc it as well as the various thief aoe dmg ticks. But heals such as this that I have to use preemptively I don’t get. What if I won’t need it? What if I do need it but am taking too much pressure?

If you use it but won’t need it, then you’ve given yourself a DPS boost. Congrats!

If you do need it, but are taking too much pressure. Then congratulations again! You’ve overextended yourself! Use the Shiro heal, swap to your other legend, use that legend’s heal, and either run away or fight defensively!

To me, this is more a higher damage, solo friendly version of Vampirism Signet than it is an analogue of Signet of Malice. It’s also a combined DPS boost and heal skill, and really shouldn’t be expected to to both things while also instant healing for 20k.

You have two heal skills. Two. Jalis’s heal is actually quite good, and Glint’s is STRONGER when you’re under heavy pressure. Hit 6, F1, and then 6 again. You’ll have the benefits of the Shiro heal in another stance as well as that other stance’s heal.

Shiro is a highly offense, speed, and dodge-oriented Stance. It makes SENSE that it be a little lacking when it comes to one thing, which happens to be pure healing.

If this is too hard for you to manage, then I’d suggest the same thing to you that any number of people have suggested to any number of others on this forum: L2P.

Newb Rev guide?

in Revenant

Posted by: Mercurias.1826

Mercurias.1826

When leveling, I suggest working first on Shiro. The speed boost from IO will make your life easier when traveling the open world, and it’s high damage is a big plus. It also gives some gap closing, a nice stun, and a dodge which doesn’t run on endurance. Its only major flaws are that it can burn too quickly through energy and it’s heal skill is rather weak.

For your other Stance, I would choose Jalis. It offers a very good heal (thus shoring up Shiro’s weaker one), a defensive boost in its Vengeful Hammers skill, and it can apply AoE weakness with Inspiring Reinforcements in a pinch. In practice most of the time you’ll toggle on the hammers and whack stuff until your hammers run out, at which point you’ll swap back to Shiro.

For weapons, I would suggest the sword Mainhand with either a sword or axe offhand depending on the situation. The axe offers greater mobility and aggression, while the offhand sword gives a block. For your other set, I’d take the hammer for ranged damage.

For traits, I would first work on Destruction for raw DPS and fury generation. It can also help to generate might as well. Second, I’d get Invocation or Retribution. Third, I’d get whichever of the two you didn’t have before. Invocation can give fury, slight healing, some condition removal, and about 7% extra damage minus all the fury it gives. Retribution gives damage reduction, extra endurance, stability on dodge, and other generally ‘tanky’ skills.

For the rest of your leveling, once these skills and traits have been fully mastered, just fill in the rest until you’re maxed.

Gear-wise, focus on power. Precision and ferocity will certainly up your DPS and are preferred when you can gear only them and live, but if you’re having a hard time surviving then there’s nothing wrong with adding in vitality or toughness.

Lots of open world completion is suggested, as this levels you quicker these days than dungeons and includes several skill points in most maps, so you can get the jump on Herald once reaching level 80.

Playing with this setup, currently, is probably the easiest ride to 80. After getting into HoT and unlocking your Herald trait line, I would probably replace either Retribution or Invocation with the new Herald traits, swap out your primary offhand for a shield, and trade Jalis for the more Boon-oriented Glint, whereupon your main combat ability will involve buffing yourself into oblivion, then in most cases swapping to Shiro to unleash a hailstorm of pointy murder on everything you see.

For runes I would pick Force for a teeny damage boost and probably Water if you really want the heal out of auto attacking.

For a build designed to support your minions and keep them and yourself alive with healing, Cleric’s is probably your optimal setup for power builds. If you wanted to run pure condition weapons then you could run Apothecary instead.

Monk’s Runes are probably the strongest healing runes available these days. If you want to heal more then sure I guess.

Mostly people will use whatever gear they already have, pick up Death Magic with traits oriented towards your minions, then run two minions (Blood fiend optional), Rise, and the flesh Golem.

Picking Blood Magic will give you a way to more easily heal your minions. In order to maximize its effectiveness, I suggest using dagger/warhorn for self heals and using the Transfusion GM trait to turn Reaper 4 into a heal skill.

That’s basically all you need for a solid MM build with Reapers. It’s pretty easy to start up and/or incorporate into existing builds.

I’m still running a Blighter’s Boon/Chilling Victory build with Shouts (YAAW, Suffer, Rise!, and CTTB). Gear is Zerker and slowly converting to Ascended Marauder. I use the Greatsword and Staff for weapons. The damage reduction from Rise is great, as is the damage reduction from chilled enemies. You also have Necro health and the life bar from shroud to keep between you and downed state.

It’s also super simple to maintain 25 stacks of might in fights and, while Reaper isn’t permanent, it’s got some nice duration increase.

The damage isn’t like that of more condi-oriented builds, but when you’re at 25 stacks of might then frankly you could hit things with a scythe made of paper mache and things would still die.

Try going for Retribution traits alongside Corruption for added survivability and giving out Weakness.

The point of sword/axe is to have the power-based attack power and evade built into the sword mainland along with the the movement power of axe 4 and the crowd maneuvering power in axe 5. If you’re having trouble surviving, you may have and easier time going sword/sword.

For Claw Island, Shiro and Jalis are a good combination. Jalis has condition cleansing and the hammers to help keep you alive, and Shiro has added damage and maneuverability.

Shiro’s heal isn’t terribly amazing. It does increase damage, however. I typically use it either on cooldown or when my health is at 2/3. I never wait longer than that with the Shiro heal.

Don’t be afraid to dodge away and turn off Impossible Odds for a couple of seconds while you restore health.

If you get a lot of enemies bunched around you, there’s no shame in firing off Jade Wind. In some tough spots, relying on sword 3, Jade Wind, and evasion have let me live where spamming 1 and running down impossible odds hasn’t.

Remember that hammer’s skill there is an evade and its 4 is a directional ranged block. The 5 is tricky to land a lot of the time, so normally I reserve it for enemies aggroed to me or for opening attacks. Hammer 2 is a very short recharge, very long range line AoE. The auto attack isn’t bad, especially with Impossible Odds to help with kiting, but on the whole I tend to open and pull with the hammer and then swap to the sword/offhand to finish the job.

Always update your gear before Claw Island.

Don’t try to kill everything on Claw Island. They will spawn forever.

When your health gets low, use sword 3 and switch to Jalis, then use his heal and toggle on the hammers. Instant 20% damage reduction.

Only use Jalis’s skills when necessary other than the hammer toggle. His attacks don’t really do enough damage to warrant spamming indiscriminately, but they have situational uses.

The mace is a very good condition weapon, but I wouldn’t use it for AoE on a power build. You won’t get much use out of it that way.

Revenant as healer/support

As someone who has been leveling a pet support Rev, I’ve been using a whole, heck of a lot of Ventari. It’s taught me a few things:

-You will simply not be doing as well in terms of damage as the Glint/Shiro meta. At all.
-Ventari is great for sustain and health upkeep. Against enemies with powerful strikes, you cannot sit there and tank everything with the tablet pulsing.
-Traiting for AoE blind in the tablet is a truly fantastic help in events with massive numbers of mobs. This only works in melee, so using a staff works very well.
-Ventari works fine with the hammer due to reflects and ranged combat, but blind pulsing only works in melee.
-Ventari lacks a true spike self-heal. Pairing with a legend like Jalis or Glint does wonders for emergency survival.
-Don’t understimate the usefulness of Ventari’s elite when positioning mobs, especially when traits to daze,

In a big group, I’d check before going Centaur stance. It’s nice and all, but if a Druid or guardian is about then I’d bounce to Shiro and reenact an episode of chopped

From a mathematic standpoint, I sort of like this set of gear a little better: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNApXin3geNSuQvJRboHlsP0kS4I6SJ4EtrkFUlhNpmiKNgCSwO92jH-TBjAQBQU9nrp8AaPAgus+AAOBARTPgAOCALZDg9oJQSKBFjSsBcIACAcAsbdL8vBGf8xHf8xb3d3d3d3tUAMprC-e

The build is interesting, though. I like it.

Swap out the sword/axe for hammer when needed. That should get you through most HoT content both solo and in groups.

Anyway to make Tablet work in PvP?

Tablet is a great skill and works excellent when you swap it out for glint/shiro.

I actually love playing in Centaur.

This post still made me laugh. Good show.

Revenant vs. Elementalist in PvE only

Mercurias.1826

The Revenant is much, much less complicated and intricate to play than the Elementalist, has an easier time surviving (due to its armor, hp pool, and access to blocks/shields), and possesses very high DPS (though not quite as high as an ele’s). The Revenant is primarily a melee class, as it has only one ranged weapon (though it’s a really good one).

The Elementalist, by comparison, has higher damage, more skill customization, and greater utility, but has all the durability of a wet tissue.

In terms of difficulty, the Revenant “only” cycles between two weapon sets and two sets of heal/utility/elites in battle, and while you aren’t able to customize your utilities aside from in groups of five, the utilities you get from your legendary stances are very, very good.

I’ve been playing a whole lot of the heal/support stance, Centaur, and while I think the stance is a lot of fun with its mass blinding, steady pulse heals, reflect, cleansing, and knock back (I love using energy expulsion, then surge of the mists, then summoning up another tablet and immediately,p detonating it to blind and in again), I would still say that an Elementalist is a stronger burst healer due it’s access to water fields.

Elementalists can also stack more might with combo fields than Revs, but Revenants have a much easier time when it comes to throwing on buffs.

Eles often rely on combos for effectiveness. The Revenant does very little with combos.

The way most people play Revs right now at high level (with Glint/Shiro), it plays a little like the weird, mutant baby of a guardian and a thief.

race?...

Norn. They have affinity to the spiritual world (which is part of the myst).

Charrs are more related to engineering/warcraft;

The first Revenant is literally a Charr.

Asuras are mostly linked to the magic

Wouldn’t that be a good thing when it comes to learning a new kind of magic?

Silvaris are a young race without too much link with the legends of the past.

There are no Charr legends, yet once again the first Revenant was a Charr. This kind of implies the idea that race and even philosophy have no bearing on becoming a Rev.

Humans and Norns seems the more “natural” but as I said Norns had heavy roots with the spirirual world (albeit most of their totems are based on forces opf the nature).

Humans and Norns have a connection to their respective gods and spirits, yes, but Legends are something different entirely.

Frankly, I think any race works well in game lore and gameplay equally well. My two Revs are a male Sylvari and a male Human.

I’ve heard a lot of mentions of people not liking that they have to summon the tablet, and I never really got why this was an issue.

In order to properly maneuver the tablet, I’ve been using a mouse hotkey anyway so it can be done quickly and with a minimum of concentration. Now it’s just muscle memory to hit that mouse button when I swap to Ventari. It took a little practice, but within a half-hour or so I had it down.

I actually kind of like running with the tablet in world events (when I tend to swap a few traits around to maximize group support just for funsies). People will stack near my tablet like it’s Base in a game of tag. I think it’s amusing.

Mercurias.1826

I’m leveling two revs currently. One of them is a Corruption spec with mace and Mallyx. The other is a Salvation spec with Ventari and the staff.

Of the two, the most survivable in prolonged fights is absolutely the Ventari rev. I swapped out Tranquil Roots for Blinding Truths the second I picked up Tranquil Benediction, and the Blind is used liberally on harder hitting enemies while I dance around them collecting orbs for my regen and whacking away with the staff.

This combat style also works well with the hammer, where you can sit back and reflect projectiles like crazy and hit Energy Expulsion to knock away things that get close. I’ve gotten good enough at it that I’ll steer the tablet around and use blinding truths on mobs while hitting things at range.

Heavy damage does seem to be able to overwhelm Ventari’s healing, as it’s all steady pulse heals rather than spike healing. For a while I ran Shiro with it for added damage and gratuitous regen acquisition, but the lack of a big heal when things get nasty caused me more trouble than it was worth, so now I keep Jalis on deck as an off-legend when I’m about to go into a big fight and it works much better.

what are you using for 2nd set with reaper?

I really like the greatsword, but between it and the Reaper Shroud, Necro has a serious ranged damage shortage. I keep one of each Necro weapon around just in case, and I use them all, but by default I run the staff alongside the greatsword for its utility and ranged damage in a pinch. It isn’t amazing, but it’s better than being stuck without ranged at all when you need it.

I think you have to unlock everything before you get your reaper spec. It isn’t terrible to do, though. Lots of open world skill points, and the HoT skill point court for ten per. If you’re running minions, just take it slow and steady. You’ll get there eventually.

Every day i play GS, its worse

Mercurias.1826

Typically, my stance when it comes to weapons in this game is to always carry one of each kind you can use, just in case you need them. Even if you absolutely hate using them, there’s always at least one situation where they’ll end up coming in handy.

I’ve been maining GS on my Necro since I unlocked the thing. It took getting used to compared to my previous Dagger/Focus (or horn) build, but it plays a lot like the hammer in terms of speed on its auto, and once you get used to that it all becomes a lot easier. Attacks need to be aimed and times with more care in order for it to work, but the thing hits like a mack truck and comes with some nice extras.

The GS auto is, a times, difficult to land the third hit with, which means you have to plan when to land it. When enemies are stopped in preparation for a big hit is a good time to land one of your own.

Gravedigger hits hard and is a pretty nice continuous whirl finisher so long as you hit something below 50% health. It’s got a long animation and takes practice to land, but it’s a very nice tool for your kit.

GS 3 is a short recharge attack which applies 12 stack of vuln and some really nice life energy. The vuln is almost perma. In my experience, it’s probably the attack I miss landing the most, so special care has to be taken when landing it.

Nightfall is a dark combo field, like your wells, and blinds in melee, which is sorta where you are. Paired with Gravedigger, it makes for a for life stealing bolts. I love use that combo against giant enemies, turning off melee assist, and chaining gravedigger inside the enemy where all the bolts will land for added DPS and a touch of heal.

GS five, for me, is used more for the chill it applies than it is for pulling enemies closer. If it works? Fine. If it doesn’t? They’re still chilled if you take the focus to aim, which means they’re a lot less of a threat and a whole lot easier to crush with the Greatsword.

When I want to spam 1 and kill everything, I hop into Reaper Shroud. The Necro greatsword takes work, but it’s a very solid weapon with heavy damage and utility.
