Using Spears on Land

Ahh I just figured he meant the weapon type based on it’s graphic look xD, and this is a thread about land spears so I figured spears should be the focal point

They aren’t exactly the same, some are even more different depending on your professions.

Which trident works the same way as the ranger staff, guardians staff, and especially thief staff?

There are some similarities for the others, but I wouldn’t say they function “exactly” the same.

Tridents and Spearguns are effectively Staves and Rifles respectively. So, no.

I’d say yes~. It would be awesome to get some actual use out of these weapons, and there are lots of skins for them allready in game.

I’m not sure what you are basing the fact that trident/spear are effectively staves on. If you mean in real life, a spear or trident has different uses then a staff. If you mean in game then it’s even more different, there is currently only ONE class that uses a staff in the sense that it is a melee weapon. So unless implying that spear/tridents are weapons used to shoot beams, rainbows, fire, or light waves I think the spear and/or tridents could be very different.

Spear guns vs riffles, maybe make them a shorter range more controlly weapon.

GW2 Duel System Suggestion

Miku.6297

I’m 100% for duels as a method of pvp practice, or just a fun way to kill time. The idea doesn’t sound to bad to me till you said…

. This would allow you to publicly defeat and humiliate your opponent in front of spectators.

I really do not see A-net wanting to add something that would allow/encourage other players to humiliate one another. If that’s the main supporting reason for wanting this feature, you should ask yourself if it would make the game environment more friendly/enjoyable or more negative.

I don’t really see how this would improve players options, why not just make a new character rather then resetting your current one?

Also your idea of good/evil/neutral for the orders isn’t accurate. What makes the order of whispers evil? Why is the priory good? Why is the vigil Neutral? All three orders are dedicated to their causes, none of which are inherently evil, good, or neutral. Also defining your alignment by your class in the GW2 world wouldn’t feel right to me.

I do actually prefer some of the class names though, I like paladin more then guardian.

In response to Miku, I’ve gotten 200 filled surveys from reddit and the forums combined in just over an hour. Not sure if this means we have a large portion of people on the forums + reddit, or there are more GW2 players than I expected.

^^; I was just giving you a heads up about posting any “real statistics”. I didn’t mean any disrespect or harm, I was just saying it’s a very small percentage of the games players that will actually fill out the survey.

If you look at the concurrent player total and account totals that have been given. It would take a much larger amount of responses No harm in seeing what forum players play though.

“This space for rent”

While I thought it was okish in EQ… How often did people get kicked out for being “undergeared” or the “wrong build” in EQ? Especially in the original through Luclin days.

I don’t really see how it distinguishes them though. Old school or new these features aren’t new to most players.

“bad builds” Based on…. Do you actually need meta builds for anything other then raids?

“Equip their character correctly” once again based on your opinion of correct. To play the way YOU want to.

I really doubt anyone would “mock my build” or my gear. If you’d like I’d be happy to provide a list but I really see no need for that.

Am I nice to mean people? Well I don’t actively hang out with them no. At the same time I do know how to work in an environment with them. That includes getting along, and communicating, not simply looking at someone and saying go away you are “bad” or “mean”. Most people do this in the work place EVERY day.

Like I said I understand what you are saying, I just disagree about an inspect being a good thing for the game.

You have the right to play as you want and with whoever you choose, but so do they. Your right is in no way greater than theirs.

Or, even better, have an option in lfg for posters to make their lfg invisible for people who have the inspect option turned off (or on). BAM! You will never have to deal with elitists ever again! But this way you also won’t be able to leech off other people, either, and in the end that’s what this is all about, amirite?…

While this is true, do you often find more people aprove of including others and playing nicely or excluding and ridiculing those that don’t live up to your made up standards? Yes it’s within your rights to play however you want, and it’s also the other persons rights to play how they want. It’s a matter of player mind set A wanting to exclude player mind set B, while player mind set B is fine playing with either A or B.

I’m not saying either side is right or wrong, as I have and do play with both sides.

I don’t want a inspect function, I believe it would bring more negative exchanges between players then positive to the game. So that means I’m just looking to leech off others? I don’t need dungeon marks, I don’t need gold, I have plenty of ascended sets. I do enjoy playing the game though and just doing runs with who ever happens to want to.

While auto follow would be nice for some situations, I don’t really see it being super important. Also is it really that hard to adjust your character while RP walking along with other players?

My biggest concern with auto follow is multi-boxing or semi afk play… push your basic auto attack key so it turns on and doesn’t turn off (melee weapon) auto follow who ever is going to be moving around the area/event you are going to farm and auto follow him to free loot/kills. All you would have to do is loot every so often xD

and the people calling this idea something thats only for the evil elitists, thats just lower than low casual talk… to want to improve and to be more usefull for your team to get better raid experience, is not elitst.

I don’t recall seeing anyone saying “evil elitists” it’s just sometimes the attitude comes off as extremely abrasive to others, especially the player they deem unworthy or below them.

I also agree with you to want to improve and be more usefull is good, it’s not being an elitists. Chewing others out telling them “git gud” or “L2P” or “filthy casual”(this one is tongue in cheek 50% of the time) any other variety of curses etc is the issue. Go check some chat logs from blade and souls match making in the high level dungeons… If you have lowish AP the following chat is unpleasnt at best. It’s that type of player interaction I really don’t want to see here.

I have yet to do the raids thanks to time constraints, so I can’t really comment on the “need” for gear/build checks for them. Any content below raids though… If you need best of the best builds and gear to clear I would be impressed (in a bad way xD)

Honestly I hate the idea of an inspect in GW2. If it was a build/gear ping system like some have described it’s really not alot better, but it’s at least a step away from the inspect issues, and if it came with a function to save multiple builds and gear layouts so you could ping them…

Surely if duelling is popular then there must be duelling guilds? Sounds like a good idea to join one of those and duel with like minded people.

That could work, but it still requires joining a guild with a dueling arena set up.

Not all people who want to mess around in a duel every so often are the type of person that’s being stereotyped here. My friends and I use to duel a lot back in EQ (I blame the slow spawn times) but it was something to do, we didn’t have to jump through hoops and find a guild that had an arena set up.

I’m wondering if the lack of an inspect for this sort of content amplfiies the problem, rather than reduce it.

Nope I saw that, but the same thing happens in casual runs, a couple of elitists join and turn a casual run the other way. If saying “just make your own group and rules” is good enough for one side, it should be the same for another.

I’m guessing adding this feature would make it worse. Try checking the elitism in some of the mmos that do have this… Yea no thanks on that coming here any more then it is.

So what you’re saying is that it will be used to exclude/ridicule people, but over all you would like it so you can inspect gear.

Every time you say “dont join those groups” or anything like that it makes me stop and think… If you want to play optimized and kick out anyone who doesnt think/gear/play like you want heed your own advice Form your own groups.

Then I can see what you are saying, I just respectfully disagree, I would not want a tool that enables that sort of attitude more than it’s allready here.

IMO an inspect tool would do more good than harm or at the very least be something most would enjoy whether or not they agree with its implementation.

Based on what? This thread is 95% posted AGAINST it? Why would most people enjoy something that most people are against?

— Good point about making your own groups, but you can currently do that without an inspect option.
When you say things like
“Sorry if I don’t want to drag around someone else’s sorry kitten because they play content way above their skill level”
Do you think this attitude is positive and encouraging or rude and discouraging? Example: We are looking for players of high skill levels and builds to complete content quickly with optimal time/results. -> Same overall meaning totally different presentation. The attitude in your wording is the EXACT reasons many people do not want an inspect function. You can want to play optimally with the best gear and skill AND not be a jerk about it to others.

Also do you honestly think someone who googles a build, gets that gear and those traits is instantly “skilled”? You talk about player skill level but all an inspect would allow you to see is their gear/traits not their skill.

" Or god forbid make your own?"
You could do the same thing…

I don’t want it because the main use of this tool would be to exclude people or force a brain dead google a build and gear mindset.

I play an online game because I like playing a game with other players, working together in both PVE and PVP. I play online online games because I like working with other people of all different mind sets, some times I play for fun just hanging out and doing what ever, other times I go for speed and performance.

I’m still wondering what uses besides excluding someone or ridiculing them because they choose different gear/traits then you “think” they should would be enabled by this?

@Justine.6351

I agree there are alot of really cool people here playing. I have faith in some players, but when people are posting lines like
“Sorry if I don’t want to drag around someone else’s sorry kitten because they play content way above their skill level”
It’s very clear what they would utilize an inspect tool for.

Where the post aggressive? – Its a question
Pro – PvP / Pro – Raid What do you say that as is its a bad thing?
elitist suggestion – Again I ask, what it inherently wrong with waiting to be the most optimal you can be?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be the most optimal you can be. The key word here is YOU, demanding or discriminating against others because you don’t think they are as “optimal” as they can be is the issue with inspecting.

Just because people are kittens about doesn’t mean its bad.
preference for a casual game construed as fear – Why is preference for making sure you aren’t dragging someone who plays crap and makes my game worse a bad thing?

It doesn’t mean it’s good either. What does it bring to the game; the good and the bad. How would its use affect players? The last line in your statement here is the EXACT reason people are so against it, it’s the terrible attitude it would bring to the table.

In my eyes your post is the aggressive one as you are attacking his question for no reason. I am too curious what people are afraid of that people will find with checking your gear and build. Does that make me aggressive because I asked a question?

It’s not the question that’s aggressive it’s the way it’s posed and the wording used to support it. Lines like “If anyone else has great ideas for what else players should be able to do to other players”. Make it feel like he is pushing his agenda off as a “great” idea to everyone, the truth is, it may seem like a great idea to him; others may disagree.

I’m curious why other then excluding people based on gear and trait choices do you want an inspect function? I’m aware there are some potential positive uses, like looking for new build/gear ideas(not everyone googles a build), but that I fear that type of use would be in the minority.

As far as dueling goes, I’m 100% for for it; if it comes with an option to auto decline.

1 – Player Housing.
2 – Unlimited stack amounts. (By this I mean your collections tabs and inv stacks can go beyond the 250 to be an infinite amount. I know it’s possible as another game I used to play does it).

3 – Infinite Transmute Charges.
4 – All future expansions free of charge.
5 – Access to all future released Gem Store items (Outfits/Skins/Gathering Tools/etc).

You see where this is going? Basically since I would be paying cash monthly why would I ever need (or be expected) to spend any in the gem store? Those items should come free to me.

That would be just for starters, for a sub I would expect lot more.

Just following the what if trend. How much would you expect to pay for a sub like this on a month to month basis….

Think Tank- VIP Subscription

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Miku.6297

Yes you still get to play without paying that 15 bucks a month.

But with restrictions. Just like GW2. If you are on a free account and playing for free, you have restrictions. They differ between the two, yet you still have restrictions if you are not paying for the game.

It is up to you to decide if paying that monthly subscription is worth lifting those restrictions. Whether GW2 or the other game. But at least with the other game, when you pay that monthly subscription, it lifts ALL restrictions. With GW2, if it had a VIP monthly subscription like the one I proposed, you would still have restrictions. The one I proposed just helps alleviate some of those restrictions, while still leaving others in place.

Which begs the question, why would I pay for a VIP service, if it is not worth it? Thus why you need to make it worth it in favor of the customer to encourage them to purchase a VIP subscription.

What game is it you are talking about so I could look at the sub model.

If it “unlocks” things, are these things that are unlocked items that are sold in the cash shop? Or is it just unlocked bonus features/things like blade and souls premium memberships etc?

Obviously to make a ViP sub worth it it has to give the player(purchaser) something they feel is worth it. However the business also needs to see a return in value.

infinite trans charges being priced at 5$ a month is probably not that reasonable. The other games you are speaking that let you have access to the game for just 15$ a month, REQUIRE that 15$ a month to play. Do you get free stuff with your 15$? If you don’t pay your 15$ do you get to play?

It’s not the same type of thing; ViP access and a Pay to Play sub are very different.

On topic, as for the VIP Subscription, I would easily pay 15 bucks a month if that meant I would get like 800 gems a month and infinite transmutation charges. Even if was a yearly thing, where I had to pay say 150 bucks a year, I’d expect a monthly amount of gems (at least 800), and still infinite transmutation charges. That is pretty much all I could see getting from it.

15$ a month and 800 gems and infinite trans charges. 800 gems a month = 10$ a month.. I some how don’t see that adding up in A-nets favor.

Oh come on about the gem store prices… You know you want to buy one of those extractors for WAY more then it would cost to just buy a new rune/sigil for about 95% of the rune/sigil/upgrade things out there xD

Imo, the best implementation of a sub at this point in the game should be one that encourages players who’re willing to spend real money on conveniences to do so by offering better value for it.

But some of what you are asking for… 10xtrans charges a day how much money would that be? 1 total make over kit per day, again that’s a large cost… How much are you suggesting this cost to balance that out?

The key to making something like this realistic is to remember Convenience =/= Luxury; they are similar but not the same thing.

Ok-VIP Sub

1. costume changes free
2. a “VIP” hairstylist" that is no cost for change hair styles and color-unlimited
3. no waypoint costs
4. a amount of Gems equal to sub price
5. —As I see a VIP as pre-paying for future content in advance, a special price for any expansions in the future

Why would you get ALL the benefits of being a “ViP” and the same amount of gems as the sub costs? (just curious)

Idea 1 would be super nice, but at the same time, could be costly for A-net, free trans for armor is pretty large.

Idea 2 there is a hair kit in game that offers this exact same thing with unlimited uses. Kinda unfair for those that got the hair kit.

3 and 5 I do like, as long as you mean a subscriber would get a discount on purchases of expansions and such.

actually some minor discount 10-15% from gem store purchases would be a decent thing for a vip

I’m saying this because a discussion like it’s going to happen shows potential positives without negatives. To have a think tank you need to examine and research both/all sides of the issue not just the positive sides or what YOU want.

The only things I would see working okish for a sub system are..

magic find boost

These two statements are spot on. When ever I see this topic brought up I always wonder what name the OP wanted. Just knowing 90% of them even if a name wipe occurred they probably would not get it.

The second one I also totally agree with. As I said in an earlier post, I can’t play much at the moment, (and logging on is extremely unlikely) I’ve been playing since head start, and my account has always been in good standings. But thats an other dead ignored topic

I totally agree were there’s a will there’s a way! How ever have you heard the saying “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. Take a look at this thread as an example you and the OP are for this idea, practically EVERYONE else who has responded is against it, and have given numerous reasons and counter points as to why it’s a bad idea and should not happen.

Valid has to be better defined here I think…

If the player has an account and it’s not banned, then yes it’s valid… If they log into it for 10 mins a month or 5 hours a day it’s still a valid account. It’s been very clear on what constitutes a valid account, just because you disagree doesn’t make it any less defined.

Think about it for a minute, why should a player lose the name they got just because you want to be able to use it? Example: I havent been able to log on for the last few months, (going on 6ish and I probably won’t be able to for a few more or longer) does that mean I should lose my name? My account is in good standing, I have been playing since betas/headstart, no matter how little I can log in now there’s no justification to take the names I got for my characters away.

Get more creative, use spaces, you can use special characters as well. It’s really not that tricky to get a name you like (unless you want a pop culture reference, though my brother did get the name “Cammy White” mid way through year 2…) So even some known names may still be available.

Thoughts?

100% no. As Gaile “Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.”

Also I love how people fail to think about this solution. Even if this would happen (Which it probably won’t) do you honestly think you would be the one to get that pop cultural reference name you want? Odds are good it would be announced so you wand every other person that wants to be “legolas”, “cloud”, “etc etc”, would be trying to get it.

Yes some original names would open up, but the odds that you want the same original idea name as someone else and can’t come up with some other way to use it are low. Just be creative and use a title, use spaces, you can even use special characters in GW2.

In WvW autoattacks often aggro neutral monsters when fighting stealth classes in open field.

If neutral monsters in wvw are killing you… It’s not stealth/reflects that are causing you to have a hard time.

Problem is I don’t know that. Mesmer is near ledge and disappears. Did she use torch 4 and drop down ledge? Should I go check that? Maybe I should start frantically swinging my sword to thin air in case that Mesmer turned invisible and blinked on top of me. Maybe that Mesmer instead ported and I’m a fool for doing the above. In any case if she catches me off-guard I will die.

I’m not saying stealth is OP, it’s just not fun to play against and could be fixed.

That’s sorta the point of stealth, you know to be able to hide your movement/position from the enemy? If the mesmer ported, shes probably not going to catch you off guard if you mean Waypointed out… If you mean portaled, I’d strongly suggest looking on the ground it’s really not hard to see the portal entry.

As for frantic swings. Watch the animation, if you have a multi-stage 1 (many are) you will notice it tends to stick to the first swing till it connects with something (visable or invisable) then moves to the second.

Toxic skills

Wall of Reflection
Summon a barrier of mystic power that reflects projectiles.
Duration: 10 seconds (12 seconds traited)
Combo field: light
Recharge: 40 seconds (32 seconds traited)

Not only does this skill completely negate all ranged damage, it reflects those attacks right back at their source. The wall also lasts absurdly long time. This skill is toxic, because as a ranged class there is nothing I can do about zerg guardians casting this skill and making my contributions to fight nonexistent.

Suggestions for balance:

  • Reduce duration significantly (to 3-5 seconds). Look at how League of Legends handles its game balance. There are extremely powerful skills but they never last a long time, because fights in general are fast-paced and reactive. There’s nothing reactive about casting Wall of Reflection and sitting 12 long seconds behind it.
  • Remove projectile reflect. Completely negating ranged damage is good enough, but why would it also have to make opponents kill themselves? Casters and ranged attackers are often “glass cannons” which makes this ability absurdly powerful.
  • Increase cooldown to 120 seconds. Being the ultimate answer and hard counter to all ranged attacks, surely its cooldown should reflect the fact that it should be used sparingly and not spammed every time it comes off cooldown for 37.5% uptime!

Or just leave it alone; it doesn’t as you say "completely negate ranged damage. Beam attacks (mesmer great sword, ele scepter) go right through. as do MANY field/area type attacks (eles lava font, rangers longbow 5).

Stealth
Turning invisible is pretty good ability. Only way turning invisible could be better is if it would also turn you invulnerable. It makes your opponent lose targeting and if they have autotargeting setting on, aggro another target instead. During stealth you have full privacy to position yourself properly, escape, waypoint out, prepare your skills and launch attacks on your foes. This is the kind of fantasy that’s half the appeal of thief class. Other half is instakilling enemies. However, playing against stealth is not very fun. Everyone has probably experienced thieves repeatedly turning invisible and jumping around the map while you’re left wondering what you should do about it.

Again League of Legends had a champion that could turn invisible and instantly kill enemies (Rengar). Turning invisible is Rengar’s ultimate ability is rather high cooldown. There’s indicator (exclamation mark above character’s head) when Rengar is about it kill you. League also had the kind of hygiene to not allow people to just leave during games.

Suggestions:

  • Add a marker when stealthed enemy is in certain radius around you.
  • Differentiate stealth from porting out / leaving the game.
  • Break stealth when player does significant actions such as launch attack or blink out.

This isn’t league and I’m really glad of that. If that game is what you think is the most balanced/fun why not play it?

As far as the stealth thing goes, I’m lost what do you mean makes them agro another target instead… first you are talking about PVP but that sounds more like PVE; most wvw stuff is PvD or PVP.

As far as a marker is that’s really not needed, if you see a thief drop a smoke field mid fight do you really need a indicator to tell you he probably stealthed?

Stealth is allready quite different from porting out and leaving the game, the stealthed player is still in the area, they are still hitable with area effect attacks, you can even mash 1 and hit them…

Most stealths DO break when you attack. So I’m not really sure what you are asking for here.

Over all neither mechanic you have posted are really Toxic, or OP… Stealth is slightly anoying but not game breaking op.

I don’t really see it “revitalizing” much, but it would be fun to be able to play it on the PS4.. as for the X-BONE I’m 100% for porting it there… I might actually have a reason to turn on the oversized paper weight

Get it right or you keep losing business.

Would it be better for A-net to have given out nothing?

Visual immersion went out the door a long time ago.

Based on? There are some things that are sorta out of place, the pony/kitty bows. Other than those though, theres nothing I can think of that’s quite as obvious as some color selected abilities might become.
