It’s pretty clear where people stand on this and we’ve gotten our points across.
I think that people can learn by being called out AND being talked to respectfully.
You guys respectfully disagree =)

I agree people can learn both ways, being spotted and told what was wrong is one thing. I.E. Name.#### Stop standing in purple patches! It’s calling someone out, but not intentionaly over agressive. vs Name.#### Stop standing in the purple patches kittening noob. (This is an attack on the other player and most of the time not welcome)

So being called out is one thing, being called out and insulted is uncalled for.

Any way! Good luck on your next DS!

You are under the assumption that when I call people out I just scream ‘L2P NOOB’ and insult them whereas in reality I call them out AND tell them why AND how to avoid it.

You could instead simply message them privately or make your suggestions in map chat without a name. Calling someone out or singling them out because YOU feel they are doing the wrong thing only triggers defensive behavior and attitudes.

1) Repeatedly not following basic mechanics – “XXXX don’t stand in the kitten purple circles or you die” – “If you are double down waypoint back”

2) Giving out misleading information – on dragons stand X person said in map chat “You need to kill them all at the same time!” – this is wrong and teaches people the wrong thing. I listened to this person and learned something that was WRONG.
This person wasted the time of an entire map because they ‘thought’ they were right.

To do any of this, do you need to single a person out in public chat and tell them how terrible they are for doing it? Or could you just use /map and say Watch out for purple patches guys. This would accomplish roughly the same thing, those that care will listen (and are probably trying allready) those that don’t won’t listen (they wont listen if you single them out either, it just starts a toxic /map arguement).

3) Not following basic orders (from people who know the fights better than I do) in dragons stand / tangled depths – STAY AT YOUR KITTEN PODS

Someone entering a public map may not know who does or does not know the fight. It’s kinda unpleasant to enter a map and each event or area you get to be told “leave we don’t need or want you here” (this is more A-nets event design issue then anything). Though it’s understandable with the way scaling works it’s very important to not have more then a certain amount of players in certain areas. Now my question again for the last part; do you think saying “STAY AT YOUR KITTEN PODS” gets more positive attention/reactions than simply saying “Stay at your pods” or even “Please stay at your pods everyone”?

The reason why people / I get angry is because our time has been wasted because of someone else’s ignorance. Failing a TD or DS is a 2 hour wait that some of us don’t have the time to wait out.

The other day we lost TD by 0.5% and one second. I can’t be certain why but I will bet cash that some people didn’t use sharpening stones and food even though the map commanders repeatedly told EVERYONE how important it was.

Sorry not everyone is going to bring sharpening stones and food to a PUBLIC OPEN WORLD map, it’s just the way it is.

If nobody told me what I was doing was wrong how would I know? People are telling me “I’m not a decent human being” Do I take this personally? Of course not. I try to understand the point. You (other replies included) seem to be saying being friendly and loving is the only way to help people. This is something I disagree with.

The ultimate point I am trying to make is I know that when people are angry it’s because they want to SUCCEED. No matter how the knowledge is presented – friendly whispers / angry map rage / guild chat / angry insults the point is that none of these people want me to fail.

When you call someone out on map chat, that’s a pretty good way to make sure they take it personally… I mean you literally MAKE IT PERSONAL by calling them out, which is usually the point.

We are not saying “friendly and loving” is the only way to help teach people, we are saying rude and negative will not produce a positive reaction from most people. It will infact land you on /block lists or possably get you/your run trolled. Calling others out, insulting the way they play, condescending and rude comments are not constructive, and will more often than not, not teach anything.

Same as I said befor. You can TEACH something without being rude or calling someone out. How often do you see a prof or teacher (of good standing/merit) stand infront of a class and berate a student?

I notice how many people reacted emotionally to my comment. thus proving my point that people will listen when they are angered rather than indifferent.

I’ll mention again the questions I posed that everyone replying seems to have ignored.
Is it a nice way of teaching? No. Are there other ways to help people? Of course!

I don’t really feel emotional about my response or your point, I’m simply trying to explain that most people will not interact well with someone who comes on and slings insulting comments and condescending “lessons”.

Please think this through, people react negatively when angered rather then indifferent. Someone who feels insulted is less likely to comply and work together with the person who is being offensive. They are far more likely to simply block the offender, and move on. A small percentage of people may attempt to improve, and others may intentionally go out of their way to irritate the criticizing player more.

I never ignore your last statement I just disagree with it. If the main purpose of a comment is to help improve another players ability or to “teach” them what you think is right, then there is no need for rude/insulting comments. Like I said, when someone says “x is a noob L2P”; they are not teaching anything. You seem to have ignore how most people who didn’t agree with your comment said the only thing acting like that “teaches” is how to get on everyones block list in short order.

TL:DR, if players who are indifferent won’t listen (I actually think this is completly untrue); players who are angry see what you said but will most likely block, and/or not cooperate with you; players who feel included and like their help is valued are more willing to work with people.

I’m confused. When was that indicated? The whole idea so far has been that the armor would be bound to the guild. That way non-guild-members cannot, as you put it, buy it.

If you’re indicating that ascended equipment should be purchasable on the market, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Then it becomes an economy focus rather than a guild community focus. Anet already has plenty of cash sinks on the trading post that anyone (including guilds) can purchase at any time already purely for gold. The whole idea is to bring more importance and interaction to half of Guild Wars’s title.

If only guild members can buy it, how does that prevent someone from doing this..

/map tipping for guild with ascended armor crafters ready to use —→ join guild --→ buy/craft armor from guild crafters —→ pay inviter --→ leave guild. Unless you are saying that A-net would some how flag the armor to be useable by members only in a certain guild, and only when repping said guild, the final result would be a way to acquire ascended armor without having to level crafting or get RNG lucky.

Calling you out on being bad is TEACHING you how to be a better player. So instead of being the victim and playing dumb you should own up to mistakes and just accept that someone else may know more than you do.

This is not true, calling someone out is not “teaching”. You would also need to instruct them on what to do right, or how to improve. Saying “x needs to L2P” is not teaching, it’s insulting: and that’s the point. Most comments like this are not intended to help the player, they are intended to insult the other player.

“Just accept that someone may know more” True… However if someone is constantly “leading” failed attempts, they may want to rethink their actions and strats. Entering a map and barking orders/insults is a quick way to get blocked and have no one listen. Try being constructive and positive, a good attitude goes a LONG way when it comes to team work.

However when you start attacking someone they will immediately focus their attention and read intently. Now how much is filtered because of anger we don’t know but surely some of the ‘mean advice’ must seep through even if they don’t admit it.

LOL Or they will just block you and move on… I really don’t think flaming people and being rude in public channels is the best way to motivate people or make friends.

It doesn’t matter if there are journeyman crafters out there; materials or fees would still need to be collected. The idea is not to exchange exorbitant fees for ascended items, but rather to use them as guild community items.

But my question about selling items and your answer does NOT support guild community items. It supports non guild members buying ascended armor.

Essentially, jobs/job descriptions. I mean, so long as it works out for both the guild members and the crafters, that’s another positive community interaction. You could even have journeymen who craft in one guild for a couple of days, pick up some gold as payment, and then move on to another guild. Fullfill guild-member-determined “contracts” and move on with life. More cool ideas – nice input there!

So why even bother having ascended as “account bound”? If guilds could be used to buy/sell the armor, why not just go ahead and have it be available on the TP?

What I might be able to support a bit more… Have the guild armor “rent” ascended stat armor. If the guild crafter is the proper level you can buy timed (3 day duration for example) ascended armor once per duration cycle. This way, you would need to be in a guild to have the armor. It would also let people try out different stat combos without having to fully invest in buying a new set.

Resurrection Incentive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miku.6297

Miku.6297

I agree with the OP, giving some sort of incentive or bonus for rezzing people during events would encourage rezzing. My only concern about it is: sometimes it’s just better to run back. If a player is fully dead at the wyvern event in VB, the chopper back up is literally less then 30 seconds away from the WP. It reduces the standing players DPS to stop and res, and it’s not always safe to do so.

While I am 100% in support of giving players incentive to assist others that have fallen, I also believe that the fallen should help them selves and run back when it’s more efficient.

@OP: Please please don’t just assume because someone doesn’t res during an event they are “being a kitten”.

There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together.” – Curtis Johnson

Dye channels being different so colors will be slightly different, armor clipping, etc exists in the currently limited types. Making everything work together is not the request here – it’s letting us choose what skins to use, and personally pick what works (or doesn’t).

If you are asking to be able to mix and match light with heavy and medium etc… That IS making everything work together. A-net probably doesn’t want GW2 to be a gigantic mess of miss matched and clipped parts. Yes there is currently some clipping issues, but they are not as large as this would make. I figured posting the quote would help clarify the reasoning behind this not being available.

It would be a nightmare and probably not worth the time invested to make this many changes.

I’m aware you didn’t mean to make all types useable by all classes. I’m asking why they shouldn’t be if you allow people to skin and wear any type of armor.

Hi there!

I’ve been away for a few months, but I’m really looking forward to getting back into GW2 with HoT!

I play a level 80 mesmer~ and love her, but Tyria’s a big place so having friends and guildies to explore with would make it so much more fun.

So I’m looking for a casual friendly (prefer smallish) guild to learn and explore HoT with. I love all aspects of the PVE game, so dungeons, fractals, and I’m especially looking forward to taking a shot at the raids.

My play times are pretty sporadic but I can usually make a schedule if I know what it is ahead of time.

I still think Ranger is the OPs best bet. Long range and it doesn’t have a crap ton of buttons to hit (long bow). You can take a decent amount of survival utilities for when you really need it. Though I guess following this train of thought, any prof with a decent damage high max range weapon could fit the bill. I just personally feel like the OP would get the most out of rangers 1 and 2s

I’d say ranger for what you describe, sit back at the edge of your long bows max range and shoot away with 1 and 2, take utilities for survival and you will be good to go! You won’t be the most optimal but, for what you are describing I think that would be the best fit.

I’m just going to use them to boost my rev when HoT comes out…

For a new player, I’d use them in the mid level ranges 30-60,. Then at 60 do fire heart rise and mount maelstrom map completion. Move on to Orr and Frost gorge next. By the time you’re done you will be 80 or very close to it! Just use any spare tomes after if you haven’t made it. I’m suggesting this path because of map completion rewards. You may as well complete the maps for the chance at decent rune/sigils on the exotics, this way you don’t waste the exp income from completing them.

There’s nothing wrong with exclusive play if it’s done politely, but A-net is focusing on inclusive play.

Do you see the elitism in your statement? “Why would you want to force players to play with people who they would want nothing to do with if they could actually see what they were running?”. Keeping this kind of attitude OUT of the game is a good thing in my opinion. It’s because of this attitude and mind set that I would hate to see an inspect gear/spec system introduced.

With the abuse and elitism a gear and spec inspect would cause, I’m 100% against this. A gear inspect tool would rarely be used to just look and commonly be used as a tool to promote exclusivity.

It’s too bad that AP is a useless metric for judging how good a pug is going to be

I never said they were a good metric to use for judging someone, if you check my post history you would see I agree, AP means very little in terms of skill. I simply stated the ways a player could view another players AP; the OP was asking for a way to do this.

The ONLY way I would ever somewhat support an “inspect” feature is… if it inspects wardrobe only. So items would be viewed as white rarity skins with no stats shown.

Like others have said the AP points are viewable from the party window, the guild window, and the friend list.

All 4 of them? Guardian should had been obvious. But like I pointed out, they never lived up to their potential as a useful stat. The reasons Zerks is Meta, and the reason we keep going back to it, is because it actually scales correctly.

I’m sorry I just don’t understand, even if defense scaled right… Unneeded defense in a game where there is no trinity, and DPS is king is still unneeded. I just don’t see how armor that is geared for defensive use would be better in the PVE environment.

I was under the impression the reason zerker was meta is DPS is king, we don’t need defensive stats in PVE. So if it’s not making you kill faster it’s just slowing you down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Don’t confuse incompetence as intentional design. We know for a fact that these stats, when first added, were theoretically better then most existing compositions for at least half the classes in the game.

For the which profesions was Zealot’s, Sentinel’s, Nomad’s, or Sinister theoretically better for? You can’t mean PVE; the first 2 have defensive stats in them, and Nomad’s is extremely defensive, which has NEVER been considered theoretically better in PVE.

I looked upon some of those, and one of their main reasonings where about the fact that outfits don’t have supported individual pieces, this isn’t actually 100% true, as you actually can remove the headpiece on some gear, and sometimes even the shoulders and gloves, via the “Do not show” tickbox. This suggests that the outfits that have those options actually do have some individual gearpieces. Why can’t we use those atleast?

Because they do not work the same as normal gear (As stated in many of the other outfits to armor topics)… Notice when you click the do not show tick box the location disappears, you do NOT see the armor that it was covering.

oh they are very very strong. there’s a reason why the mesmer forums are in fiesta mode right now and some their own want a nerf in their own class. You don’t see that everyday in a class subforum. Also why 80% of roamers you’ll ever meet are pretty much their class nowadays. I won’t expound more to escape potential drama and that i find the official forums quite unnecessarily toxic as of the moment.

it’s certainly not doom and gloom but the gigantic class bandwagon towards the meta is very very real. As to why no action has been taken, my guess is as good as my pet dog’s. and he’s usually right and very negative.

Are they killing people in “2 spells”? With recent fixes it’s gone down a bit since the initial spec release.
