A Ranger you say? No cookie-cutter builds or classes you say? Well, you’ll see everything in time.

Well it’s better to know before hand what reality is about in PvE?

• Rangers are in a bad state and have an awful image in game. Learn to give the best you can if you want to run dungeons using the Looking for Group tool.
• Cookie cutter builds.. well there is the meta build for each class, not sure if you consider that a cookie cutter build (to me that equals to non-unique). Sooner or latter you’ll see that this one build is the best you can have and most people do not want someone to play selfish by using a sub optimal build in a group, resulting in kicks and insults. Rangers are the first to be targeted (Most people will not accept “RP” in dungeons, so say bye to your bows)
• Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer, Ele are the optimal classes so sooner or latter you’ll be discouraged by “No ranger” parties on the Looking for group panel.

A few tips to make reality enjoyable :

• Learn your class weakness and strenght
• You can always form your own parties with your own rules
• There are ALWAYS people with the same state of mind as you, just find them and play with them. The game will be enjoable for you, them, and those who do not share your way of thinking.
• If you adventure in the endgame, check out the cookie cutter build as you name it, that’s the only one which will make you go far and enjoy the “Group synergy” aspect of the game. It might how ever not correspond to what you like to play.
• You play how ever you want with friends, your guild, solo in Open World, in PvP, WvW BUT You play the best you can for all those people you meet for only a dungeon run, that’s respect of their time and fun (fun coming from group synergy, not from some role play perspective).

Not sure how much armor mobs have, let’s pretend it’s 1836… With the optimal setup we can crit 5351 – 5351 – 9811 on Sword AA! So stronk! (/not really)

Well I guess I’ll answer that one myself (had a talk with Colesy, zerk is fine tho some assassin parts give higher damage). So I went over GW2buildcraft for a check on ascended gear; here are the results :

The highest Effective power possible is 15595.6 with the following stats

• Power 3402
• Precision 2512

• Critical Damage - 134%
  Critical Multiplier 2.84

• Critical Chance 100% 80% chances exactly without fury, so there is no Precision loss
• Damage % modifier 61.42%

(Optional)

• Armor 1836
• Health 17082

These stats might look wild for you, but since we are speaking of dungeons, some standarts were applied such as :
Banner of Force
Banner of Discipline
25 stacks of might
Fury

Also, the build used is the 10 30 0 20 10 build for dungeons.

Damage modifier is so high because of – Slaying potion, Night Sigil, Force sigil, Scolar runes bonus, 3 Mantras and 3 Illusions up.

Now the gear :

• the best values come from a Zerker weapon set with Mighty infusions (+5 power) with Precision Stacks (and Power food buff)
• Trinkets are all Zerker with Power infusion (+5 power)
• Armor is Berzerker helm, shoulders, boots and gloves + Assassin coat and leggins, all 6 pieces with Precise infusions (+5 precision)

How ever, the link misses on Boons and Manual stat addition (values for stacking sigil, banners, traits)
Manual tab should read these values :

power: 170,
precision: 420,
critical damage: 15,
condition damage: 170,
damage multiplier: 12,
damage multiplier: 9,

Now people will run with forks at me shouting not eveyone has the money for versatile infusions (we keep normal infusions, get these from WvWvW), so here is the gear break down without these [15411.88 effective power, 1.17% less direct damage than optimal setup ]:

• Assassin Helm, Coat, Leggins,
• Berserker Gloves, Shoulders and Boots
• Rest remains same (weapons, trinkets and food/sigils), however we switch 3 out of 4 aviable Offensive infusions from Mighty to Precise.

What else? We’re also soloing the dungeon and we do not have any might nor do we have fury/banners? No problem, here is the optimal gear for such a situation :

• Assassin Helmet + Berzerker everything else
• Rest remains same (weapons, trinkets and food/sigils)

(Nb: Reflects are dependant on the target’s power but your precision and crit damage, a full Assassin set is more convenient when soloing Lupicus for example)

k, done.

Thay also play Autoattack Pistol Pistol thief with no traits and no swap.

You also should tell us NA or EU.

About Exotics – berserker for group and assassin* for solo and Lupicus/Reflect heavy fights (alphrad like).
For ascended, math has to be done if there is any boost from mixing Zerk and Assassin (i do not know, hope someone can help)

Regarding the meta, it is all Berserker gear (Scolar runes and Precision Stacking Sigils on stacking weapons + Night/Force/Dungeon specific sigils on main set), Sword/Focus and Sword/Pistol or Off hand sword. Mesmer fills an utility/support role without any DPS loss. DPS comes from Phantasms and your Sword Auto; Support and Utility come from Mantras, Feedback and Timewarp. Reflects are mesmer’s main use in dungeons (because dungeons are all about positioning, damage race, boon share with team mates and damage mitigation).

But yeah… from an elitist side of view, staff is utterly useless. After all, EVERY party that’s made ALWAYS has a hammer-ele with them and also melees every boss. Oh, and of course nobody ever gets downed.

Bolt part is totally wrong. You can’t just pull stuff out of thin air and pretend it’s an argument in your favour. Melee has every advantage over range, faster reses, boon share, condition cleansing, healing, cleave and higher damage. It’s a fact.
Regarding your arah anecdote, remaining the last alive =/ being better than others (cf. Cleric guardians or any PVT spec that stays at range), this can’t count as an argument either.

You should also get your definition of elitist straight. I don’t think you know what it really means. (it’s just an advise, don’t use words you don’t know the meaning of, or words that do not correspond to what the deal is about)

If the OP wants a clear answer, Colesy gave it to him – staff is not a pve weapon as it is less efficient, cripples your party and has no practical use beside well excuted Staff 2 on skipping mobs .

Keep in mind that Scolar > Ranger (> ruby orbs) if you stay more than about 20% of the fight above 90%.
Assassins work the best for soloing and pugging without fury (which is quiet rare tho). Berserker+Scolar works the best for speedruns.

But phantasmal haste is bugged, it doesn’t affect all phantasms making your conclusion wrong. Swordsman + SI will deal more damage than Duelist with same setup (and if PH is fixed, Swordsman will outdamage the duelist anyways).

The signet does not recharge your phantasm’s skills. It recharges your phantasm summoning skills.

Ether feast still the best heal unless you run a damage build (30 dueling and 3 mantras, thus taking Mantra of Healing).

Signet of the Ether is an utility heal. As far as it comes to not using focus in pve, you don’t need the instant phantasm skill recharge. So for your current build, Ether Feast is better.
On a side note, not taking focus for reflects is a terrible decision, worse than taking greatsword. But I hope it’s just a open world roaming build for daily kills.

I hope the necro heal will work like http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Barbs . Each hit will steal some life for X seconds. However, nothing states that, so we can only assume it will lifesteal ONCE on a 20 s CD. But even then, well placed it can mitigate an aoe attack or something, good support role and a slight damage boost (really slight…).

Numbers are totally off. Only ‘trust’ the cooldown/seconds of effect.

Oh right about guardians, I thought it dealt damage on activation or something, it’s just half of a signet of malice, guardian-style.

The introduction of new healing skills ( see fr.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1s31pc/new_healing_skills_datamined/ ), I thought that some may be VERY interesting, without even yet knowing the numbers.

- Necro’s new ability sounds like a nice DPS boost on bosses (Life steal is damage).
- Mesmer’s is a direct boost to our core damage mechanic (phantasms). ANd can alsobe used for double DIsenchanter (at COE golem for instance) in power-boonstrips are requiered.
- Warrior’s skill is meh for pve (imo)
- Guardians get a damage boost (Anet encourages damage dealing guardians… silly Anet!)
- Thief’s venom is meh (traiting for venom share is too much of a price, loosing damage)
- The elementalist heal might be a blast finisher (Even more blasts! Even more might!)
- Engineers are irrelevant
- Rangers.. no idea never played one.

What are your thoughts? Any feedback regarding these abilities?

To answer your question Meichor, yes, I run Sword/Sword, be it in pve or in WvW. The block is great in both context and Swordsman is a great phantasm (afaik the best one target).
Bifrost would make a nice set, however it’ll only be used in WvW so i would only see my legendary for 40% of my game time.

Hello mesmer section, i rarelly post, but time has come and I am asking you for advice!

So, i’m looking for a mesmer dual wielding these two diffrent sets, so I can see what to expect and what not to. I just want to see the swords in action before i make the right choice.

10 30 0 30 0, sword/focus and sword/sword. Maximize phantasm damage along with CD reduction for sword and focus.

You will get kicked from any group that has common knowledge about how dungeons work.

I’m playing a female human mesmer. T3 human (because skimpy armors are totally legit on mesmer).

Imo, it actually goes well with “I make a group because I want to play how I want”.
The flaw is, Exotic Zerk or Exotic PVT will technically have the same gear score and thus the feature will not filter out unwanted builds.

^ There is no killsteal in GW2.

No one mentioned CoE full runs… I tend to have pretty nice people that are either good or willing to follow and learn fast. Regarding Fotm, never had any issue, it’s pretty safe if 10 daily or above 26.
It’s far from speedruns, but it’s safe and a good altrnative when you aren’t able to full guild/friend list.

Try tier 2 Human dyed black or Arah set. Easier, give him facial hair and dye his armor black.

Since when is mesmer bottom tier class? What am I reading in this thread?!

Can you consider showing the “Eyes” (Static views) on the game map itself (not only the minimap) so we could move to them by checking the game instead of the minimap? In the same way Capture Point’s icons are shown hovering above the game plateau.

After watching a few casters, I think it’s hard to quickly get to that view you want when you have to always go back to the compas.
