Nobody speaks of rangers… can I have an opinion on their DPS? Might make one.
Pugging daily, I stack warriors and guardians for smooth runs. They’re the least able to fail.
I think if Anet made the game you want, OP, most of the people playing the game would leave. The very stuff you see as “stuff to do”, I see as a waste of time.
It’s not the the game is bad or good. The game isn’t for everyone. It works for a whole lot of people and doesn’t work for other people.
Pretty much like every other MMO in existence.
You would stop playing if they fixed the PvE meta allowing for roles besides dps? If they made world events and bosses have a meaningful impact on the game word? If dungeons were fun and rewarding? If there was more armor skins to choose from that didn’t come from the gem store? If… give me a break
First is impossible because of game design.
Second – Events have a meaningful impact, nobody does them.
Third – Dungeons are already rewarding and fun. It’s subjective.
Fourth – Ye ok maybe.
For dungeons and high end pve – Offhand for a ranger and Mainhand for a warrior.
That’s a shorter way of explaining why skipping is better than killing worthless mobs slowing you down and increasing your chance of failure.
Only Scepter is single target.
But the OP asked for a PvE point of view no? He was leveling and stuff…
Sorry, i’ll forget that paragraph about staff. It’s a clear no. And that comes from someone who plays almost every viable class for dungeons and fotm. Staff is a no. Never. Never. No. That’s a lie.
After 1 556 hours of playing mesmer I do know what TW does. It kills firefields. It’s a not always aviable, situational skill. You can’t base a whole class on one situational skill.
Yes, it’s 9 threads down yours.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-Build-The-Zergmower
Warden has only a cleave, the GS has a good aoe wich can be used for trash, if you avoid the aa by double summon or opening with the GS, it’s “ok”. However I really try to avoid the GS in general. Guard staff however is superior for aoe aswell passive damage. Still most playes stick to GS (guard) due to numbersickness.
Time Warp damage can be “calculated” by party dps x 5 wich is approximately 200’000-250’000 damage at lv 80 single target in a good organized party. But again -theory.
Sorry, I don’t want to sound rude, but staff is a terrible weapon, this discution won’t go anywhere if you think otherwise. Greatsword is the highest damage output for a guardian, not because of “high numbers”.
Your numbers for TW are either pulled of thin air or I’d like to have the calculation behind that, starting with each member’s dps and taking into account cooldown menagement and how quickness affects each autoattack (each has it’s own animation, some are slower etc). It’s no theory if it’s “that’s how i feel it to be”.
Colesy breaking my mesmer heart even more. #rolling ranger
And, the DPS elite is Fiery Greatsword.
Edit: If you checked Obal’s guardian build as I implied, you would have seen that it’s a pure berserker build taking the best possible utilities. Sorry to burst the bubble of mesmer’s “awesome” damage modifiers. At max we get 18% (3 mantras and 3 illusions) and that’s only for our autoattack mind you, phantasms do not share our %%.
Edit: It’s not a high number issue. It’s a fact – not only it deals damage faster, the damage is even bigger. It’s like saying “my ranger’s bow is awesome DPS it hits little but fast”, yet a sword would outdps the bow by 500% every second. (made up number, I don’t ranger).

Beautiful expression.
This should be an other thread. OP got his answer I guess, mesmer is nt weakest, as long as there are necros and engineers.
I don’t think that the guard will deal more damage than the mesmer. In trash mobs clobbing he may be better since the mesmer has really poor aoe’s. However the reflection uptime at the mesmer is far better and he also deals more damage thx to mantras and illusions. The guard has one reflection skill, the other stuff just absorbs the damage that could have been reflected. And the highest meta dps still has the mesmer against a single target, even when you ignore the passive damage he’d deal with TW wich obviously cannot be outdamaged that fast. It’s like a 25sec constant 100b cast on a single target.
To not see high damage numbers seems to be a problem for many players, that’s why you see only a few mesmers and engis out there. Passive damage gets ignored completly though.
Some flaws in what you say. Guardians too have damage modifiers, better ones even, the matra argument isn’t valid.
Mesmer has aoe as warden still spins if target dies. (+ Sword). But weaker than guardian’s as you mentioned.
That’s exactly what I said about reflects, but only few dungeons require a large amount of them. My point still valid.
There is no “High damage numbers” in this debate, in theory mesmer > guardian but in real time dungeons that’s slightly the way around.
Not sure how you calculated Time Warp’s damage, oh, you didn’t, neither did anyone else or ever will. It’s totally subjective to the team composition and to rotations. I am not saying the damage is inexistent. It is here, it’s a big part of mesmer’s “damage”, but is comparable to the gap created on each encounter not done under Time Warp (If a guardian does X damage more on 10 enounters and mesmer does X x6 damage with Timewarp, guardian is still a better choice).
And mesmer is still played in meta, it’s handy.
Depends on your gear set I’d say. If you run PPC gear you might consider Invigoration for survivability/get away’s and on the other hand take Elasticity if you wear less burst gear set such as PTV or PPT.
Once again, Conflagration will suit builds with low vitality in need of condi cleanse (I don’t know if you run Null field or not, as a shatter I run Decoy/Mirror Images/Blink). Shattered Concentration is great for pure burst builds in duo roamings (where your ally can save your kitten if you get in a bad position), when with this trait you’d rather use Prestige as active offence/surprise element before entering combat (Blink => Detonate on your foe).
Zerker is totally fine!
But i’d rather take a mix of 4 Saphir/ 2 Zojja for roaming. We’re prec dependant.
It all smoothly went from PvE leveling to Dungeons then to WvW to end up in personal attacks and “I know this better than you” ’ .
To OP – In an orgnized setting, Mesmers will be phased out of PvE content for most dungeons, only few being an exception (and some fractals). If a mesmer is only taken for reflect, a guardian can do it better and deal more damage, have more accessible active support.
Not sure about ranger’s dps compared to mesmer’s in a speedclear setting, but I guess you’d better take a ranger for the prec buffs rather than a mesmer (rangers do have reflects too).I am curios how guard has better DPS comparing to mesmer. Do you even play mesmer or guard? Fully zerked meditation guard can do good bursts but survive very little. 11k hp is not really good unless group using los spots all the time. Phat zerked mesmer can be on par dmg wise to zerk war in longer boss fights and unlike war don’t need to be melee all the time. If we are talking DPS here get 5 zerked eles with Flameswords and phase every other class out of the game including your obviosly favored war coz eles DPS is higher.
Sorry but I don’t understand you, can you rephrase? Are we speaking real encounters or theorycal maximum dps possible (=/ real encounters).
But to answer some of what you said – I’m maining mesmer since 2nd beta of the game, I’ll pass on my pvp experience as it’s not related (103 qp) and just tell you that i’ve been running meta/speedclears for long enough to see the flaws of the mesmer class. Good thing people around me aren’t being elitist on HC prformance so my mesmer still has a place in SC dungeons.
Guard > Mesmer as long as you do not need split moves (CM, CoE lazers for funs) or need double uptime on reflects (Lupicus, Ettin in Uncategorized fractal of the top of my head). Guardian has more quick damage output than mesmer for basicly the same aviable support. Mind you, we speak of Mantra mesmers vs Obal’s guardians (the build is pinned in guardian section). Even if as you say, mesmers excell in a fictional setting of 3 spinning wardens, this isn’t always (keyword) achievable, by the time the mesmer casts his first warden the foe (not boss) will be at 70% of his health, guardian having already taking an upper hand over the mesmer.
your obviosly favored war
If I hurt your feelings about the mesmer class I am sorry. I tought forums were a place to share opinions
. Too bad people are easly offended these days.
#Edited for clarification.

Maybe that’s a late April’s fool, he says exactly the opposit of what is true.
Gearwise, in PvE :
Precision>Power>Condition Damage>Toughness>Vitality>Condition duration (you get that from traits/foods)>Healing power
PvP Power based :
Precision>Power>Toughness>Vitality>Condition Damage>Condition duration (you get that from traits/foods anyways)>Healing power
PvP Condition based :
Condition Damage>Toughness>Precision>Vitality>Condition duration (you get that from traits/foods anyways)>Power>Healing power
Anything else is bad.
do you know why it is not allowed in sPVP ?
exactly !!!
You forgot to answer that question. How is this related to PvE encounters again?
Also, 20 minutes for SE P1 is extremely long. I usually do it below 10 with pugs
It always takes me about 1 hour. We kill everything, no skipping and having fun instead of just rewards <3
Fun is the best reward.
+1 for sarcasm.
I know I do. That immersion ^.^
Everyone put Lilith on speed dial so she can open CoF for you! ;D
Did it twice today for no reason, didnt even cof.
#ThatImmersion
Dat roleplay, ouch!
My advise – get your dragonites now before it’s too late! >:D
Still… Over 3800 views in 2 days…
It will actually make these events more accessible on EU.
This was the funniest thing I saw today. LOL
This doesn’t look like a wurm at all… more like…
So bad Lilith!
I once got a Fractal weapon skin.
The best.
I didn’t even leave yet and you already miss me. :O
Two things happened:
I cant rule out that anet just stealth patched that path to hell because I havent been there since the last patch but its probably not the case.
Nop, goes smooth as usually.
Well, it shouldn’t take twenty minutes anyways to run SE path 1.
And that’s partially why most people do not fight elite adds, they’re too much of a hassle.
But the damage spike is most likely just bad luck, you stood in the wrong place at the wrong moment, and alot of (when alone not dangerous) attacks hit at once or something.
2nd entry because of boredom.

In Twilight Arbor Story mode path
Once upon a time, in the Far far away world of Tyria, lived a rock. The rock was happy of his existence and was proud of being a rock. He lived many many many years, not moving by an inch. He didn’t question anything in the world he lived in. He was indeed a happy rock!
But one day, a sunny Spring’s day, the rock tought for himself – This is a beautiful day! I wish I could run and jump and have fun like all the progenies and fastfooted humans around there! I wish I was a little boy.
His wish was heard by Dwayna, and the goddess gifted the rock of a magical kite. This gear piece made the rock stand on his own feet and walk, strong and fierceful just like a berserking warrior!
’It’s the best day of my existence!’ yelled the running rock! Dwayna heard my prayer and fullfilled my Springtime wish!
He didn’t suspect anything to hurt him. When he was still a simple rock, nobody would approach him or even concider him. But that wasn’t the case, he got crushed by a Nightmare Guard.
THE END.
Moral of this story – don’t kitten’ skip trash mobs. #elexploit
10/10 would read again? Replace ‘rock’ by ‘casual’.

Some questions have been answered, search before you post.
Q Regarding PvP rewards : Is the time consumed/reward in PvP is similar to time consumed/reward in PvE in order to get a legendary? In other words, is PvP more time consuming, once again, than PvE for equal rewards?
Q Are rewards scaling with the game mode (Is there higher chances for legendary components in Team Arena than in Hotjoin) ?
Q Is every ascended gear now account bound on equip? Jewelry, weapons, armors?
(edited by Miku Lawrence.6329)
Moreover, as wardrobe allows for infinite reuse of skins, people will only want to unlock the 3 armor types and be done with it.
Wouldn’t think illusion bleeds are a significant source of damage. But guess you’re right.
What gear set would be optimal for such a build? I know only of Condi Prec Toughness. But Prec isn’t requiered as we don’t have any major on crit procs… Unfamiliar with Wvw.
That’s the main reason for this not happening. Anet wants everyone to enjoy their content. 10 man raids aren’t possible for playhowiwant’s.
Spring’s hot in Tyria this year due to the Molten Alliance’s pressure on magic leylines.
It’s fashionable because of the fur paws and ears °3°

Maybe that by destroying the Queensdale champ farm people will actualy play the game and get experience in combat. Maybe. Just maybe.

Despite pugs being so far behind the meta they still seem to eventually learn some proper speedrun tactics and spread them. Curious why they dont learn about the classes though.
I run into such pug daily, too bad wearing zerker doesn’t give you some godlike power as they would think. Be kitten ed the clueless asumption of “Everything dies so fast in zerker gear you just need to AA”.
^ 30 30 0 0 10 new pve kitten. And regarding PvE enviroment being deadly, it’s a skill issue, you can get used to tells, then it becomes cakewalk.
In GW2, you locate the latest fotmbuild, equip your berserker armor and plow through the content while hating anyone attempting to test a new build as that build is totally not part of the meta and is going to potentionally ruin your precious gold per hour.
You mix up under “zerk” smart players willing to complete content in the most optimal way and terrible knownothings that copy past fotm builds.
Ps: You can’t plow through the content in berserker gear, unless by content you mean Hearts and World Events.
a) It’s not a give away, it’s a prize.
b) Nobody knows if it’s a skin, or a true legendary.
c) The effort of winning an international PvP tournament > a month of grinding gold. You have wrong conception of intensity.
d) Why can’t there be equity between game modes?
Who cares if it’s 10% or 20% or 30%. As long as berserker is getting nerfed so other builds are more wanted. Like support, CC builds and tankish builds.
Which gear would you recommend for cc builds or support builds that don’t heal?
Toughness/Condi duration/Vit
Not sure if that exists tho.
Ferocity is THE solution. Crit damage now scale down better and Berserker is less effective which means you may not want a team full of zerkers.
You still want a team of full berserkers. People will just be more selective and kick more often for errors/ways of play zerk that used to be minor or irrelevant. Most of the player base (pugs, casuals) get hit hard.
Guess only Thieves and Warriors got some change in the PvE meta. If that +200 power upon reveal doesn’t have an icd then GG free power when using AA.
Only low point, it won’t apply 200 power before a backstab lands.
So it should look like :
“Shattering illusions applies 10 seconds of 5 stacks of bleed and 10 seconds cripple up to 5 foes in a 240 unit radius; 30 seconds internal cooldown”
Some are already possible, but “chat only”
/emote makes a facepalm.
/emote claps.
/emote says X
However, +1 for quick command/emote panel for parties (Wait/Help/Stack/Run/Back etc)
Doubt it weapon swaps are too good.
Unless you forget about Greatsword and focus on Axe/X DPS (if that is superior to GS/Axe combo with this trait).
Guys, what do you think about completely new players after this patch?
No traits before lvl30, they even need to hunt them, because i bet they won’t be able to buy it with gold. They will become less desired. :/
New players will unlock traits by the time they hit upon AC. As said in the blogpost, one trait will get unlocked in AC Story, it fits well the desired “progression”. Don’t underestimate casual’s desire for roleplay >:3. I hope more traits will be tied to dungeons and therefore promote low-mid level runs, leaving less room for frustrated kids complaing about Dungeon segregation.
