Again people, this isn’t an actual item they have to manufacture or ship, it’s a virtual item and once it’s developed there is limitless supply of it. They can release it right now if they valued their customers more than some marketing gimmick – we wouldn’t have to wait at all expect that someone at Anet decided we should.
And they’d still make money regardless, after all we are complaining about missing the chance to give Anet our money. Sure it’s business but you can be customer oriented without trying to milk out every cent.
items are planned to come out with content updates to make sense of them in the world. So yes, they could release an item with no context, but besides giving a 1 day sneak peak they wouldn’t have done so. So why complain that you have to wait 6 months, if you would have had to wait 6 months regardless?
I just wanted to thank ArenaNet for screwing some of us out of an actually decent item by having a ONE DAY sale. Whether it returns later or not is irrelevant, not everyone logs on daily because some of us actually have lives to live.
I, for one, don’t particularly care to wait 6 months for an item that actually interests me because some tool in the office said ‘hey, let’s do it for one day only and see how many rush to give us money!’.
well if they didn’t do that you would be waiting for 6 months for that item regardless.
Except you did not say “not being able to log in daily”
You simply said “they didn’t repeat it daily enough”. Implying they did play the game, they just didn’t bother to work on getting their weapons.
well sometimes I log in to say hi, but don’t actually have time to do the dailies, or can’t log in at all. The situation back then was the same as here, except that OP will still be able to buy his item later, instead of having to buy a gem store item to participate in temporary content and invest significant amount of time daily in order to do the extra difficult stuff from that content.
or if they didn’t repeat it daily enough times to even get 1 skin (likely to happen)
Their own fault. Still a poor comparison to not being able to play at all.
if not being able to log in daily to do the daily run is the players fault, then so is the inability to log in trough the 24 hour period.
A pretty poor comparison.
You can’t really compare people who haven’t even touched the game for over a year to someone who couldn’t play for just 1 day for RL reasons.
you can if they didn’t know that the game existed back then
or if they didn’t have enough skills to do SAB hard mode
or if they didn’t repeat it daily enough times to even get 1 skin (likely to happen)
or if they ran out of continue coins.
This content will come back. SAB skins? Tough luck if you want yellow and green ones.
Doesn’t matter… Why not sell them now? They are already made and in game. This is just some attempt to create artificial scarcity and get people to buy stuff out of fear it will be gone the next day.
well without the sneak peak I would have expected to see them with content that fits them. So without this “artificial scarcity” we would all be waiting for months. I don’t see anything wrong with doing a day preview, having in mind that a) it generates them much needed profits and b) other people can still get them later.
Permanent? There’s no reason to limit this stuff, it’s not like there’s an actual supply that can run out or continuing to sell them would cost Anet extra.
the thing is, as stated, this is just a sneak preview. How do you know that it won’t be permanent?
SAB skins were available for a long time in comparison and are still available on the Trading post so it’s hardly the same
not yellow and green. Yellow and green were both time-gated (you had to do sab levels on hard mode) and temporary. People that played at that time would at most manage to pick up 2-3 weapons. People that joined the game later will never get them. NEVER. Same with exclusive in game store minis like for example mini hippo. “oh cool, how can I get that?” the answer to that is “you will never be able to”.
The skins are coming back. It was just an early sneak peek. So at least you’ll get them one day.
And here is mine!
He is such a cutie! It breathes, follows you around, even rummages with its tiny nose! Loving it. Hoping for more animals just as cute sometime soon again ^^
Could you do me a favor and see if it will swim with you?
the piggie is not afraid of water!
yeah probably when the expansion comes out several months from now…
whether or not they come back isn’t the point
the point is that 24 hour availability is very unfriendly to the Gw2 community and its going to annoy and discourage a lot of people from wanting to use the gem store or even play the game if they miss out..
for those of us who have missed it.. were going to have to deal with people who didn’t running around and in a sense just unintentionally rubbing it in our faces..
now imagine how people feel about the 1 time only exclusive items that are yet to come back, despite leaving the game over 2 years ago. Like yellow and green SAB skins. Be happy that at least 1 day you’ll still be able to get them.
I’ll probably have to wait weeks possibly months for a skin that due to having a existence outside of a video game I missed….
but you’ll still be able to get it. And the trend will die down so you’ll be more unique while wearing them than people that are wearing them right now
I swear some people don’t read before responding.
PvE is not getting any ‘new balls’, all updates to the world will be happening in Maguuma, the living world [which brought us such great hits as season 1 and season 2 of the living story as well as Silverwastes, Drytop, Tequatl Rising, Toxic Alliance, Flame & Frost, the Karka Invasion, the destructio of Lion’s Arch and any such map updates] will no longer be happening in Pact Tyria.
The world of Pact Tyria, the game as it is now, will no longer be changing with updates to the Living World, there will be no Living Story seasons for vanilla players to engage in.
“The world will be as it is today.”
and that’s normal. That statement could even mean that we’re moving away from LS entirely. Which is not a bad thing either.
And here is mine!
He is such a cutie! It breathes, follows you around, even rummages with its tiny nose! Loving it. Hoping for more animals just as cute sometime soon again ^^
No, in Colin’s own words all updates will be happening in the expansion and the world as it is now will stay that way.
where pray tell me will they host next Wintersday if we don’t seem to be getting a new hub?
And better yet, lets say Jormag attacks as our next enemy. How do you expect him to cross the whole Tyria to get to Maguuma and attack them specifically? Remember that majority of the dragons are kind of in a circular formation around Tyria and I highly doubt that when they close this ark, they’ll bother somehow magically transporting them half the world away in order to make them previous expansion exclusive.
The whole ark, for the expansion’s lifetime will stay in the expansion though. Which can be between 1 to 3 years. So yes, your world will stay static for around 3 years, excluding holiday events, but if afterwards we’re not digging deeper that way (like I said, unless we’re going to Elona), bringing everything from half the world away there specifically would be hard to write in. Therefore it will likely come back to Tyria before digging in a different direction with a different expansion.
EDIT: that’s assuming that we’ll still get living stories even though. For all we know the game might be moving to expansion packs only model.
(edited by Mirta.5029)
Boanoah, I’m sure that you’ll still get your holiday events and after the expansion’s lifetime, the next living story before the expansion will probably come back to Tyria (if we’re battling a new dragon and not battling our way to Elona, in which case it would happen in the maguuma).
You’re not barred from updates. You’re barred away from the story line that has to do with the expansion and all LSs surrounding it. And that’s normal. You’re acting as if you never seen an MMO get an expansion before.
because
a) the prices ain’t always clear before the thing releases (for example, upcoming pig, 300, 350 or 500 gems?)
b) some people earn money gradually and don’t always have enough for conversion before an object releases?
c) some people think that they have time to spend their gold elsewhere and re-farm before new items release?
well the suggestion can continue to be made until they actually add the feature ^^
I don’t think it’s humanly possible for me to do thirst slayer otherwise without going trough 10 mice and getting carpel tunnel. Because auto clickers are bannable, can we get these simple quality of life upgrades?
No they don’t. They’re skipping the good version.
Vista and 8 were trash, XP and 7 were good ones.
I’m on 8, far more stable, boots up faster and safer than 7. And the start bar can be modded in.
The only problem with Vista as well was the fact that majority of the programs lacked compatibility with it.
Those same desperado spammer guilds will still map hop and continuously post their map pollution.
that’s actually the way that I got the most permanent and friendly members. It seems that people prefer finding in game guilds, in game, rather than going to this website to then be sent to a different website, to then try and catch the recruiters themselves.
It won’t stop the map spam, but would be a welcome addition ^^
to make recruitment easier:
we’re social, but it requires effort from both sides. If people are on TS, join, if someone is gathering a PvP or a dungeon party, join in
also disagreements happen and they’re part of life. Sometimes it’s about anti-Putin, sometimes it’s about Hawaiian Pizza.
You made the claim that majority of players play PvX. Still waiting statistics on that one.
stop being a troll. Point is. Both parts of the game are important.
And do you have anything even remotely substancial to prove this applies to GW2? Or is that just “personal bias”?
personal bias that applies that all parts of the game are important and that people are enjoying them? How does that work? You made the claim that majority of players play PVE. Still waiting statistics on that one.
4)In duneons condi dmg is useless because 25 stacks cap. Healing, thougness and vitality are all bad. Why would you try to heal if it is just easier to kill the mob before it does enough dmg to kill you? Why would you use healing power if ressing players doens’t scale with healing power? Why would you even bother ressing it you can just kill a trash mob and rally? In some bosses you don’t even have to dodge if you have a guard rotating blocks. Ac final bosses for example let you just walk to the side and avoid all the dmg….
How useful/ useless it is will depend on the group. Then there are runes that increase rezzing speed. But other than that, true, the content is too easy in most cases to require complex group composition and build diversity.
Yeah, that’s completely nonsensical.
It’s obvious that PvE is more important than PvP.
Don’t believe me? So say: what do you think cost more money? PvP with its couple maps and little else? Or PvE, with dozen maps, all the voice acting, the storyline that required a team to be mantained, all the writing, and so on?
PVE needs more maintaining, however imbalanced PVP is how you drive your customers away. When Wildstar started having problems PVP side, their PVE population plummeted into oblivion too. Hence pretty much all the drops up until the next year are straining to get the PvP population back in shape. However can they recover or will they shut down is the question. And yes, it also had people like you claiming that oh PvP population sums up to nothing! Well majority of people tend to play PvX. Simply because no matter how many computer generated enemies you’re going to fill the game with, it will be cleared sooner or later. When said content is cleared PvP tends to keep the players staying as it’s an environment completely dependent on your and other player skill.
And now once again, do you have the statistics of what people play or not? Or do you simply deny the need for a whole section of the game because of a personal bias?
You forgot your own post, didn’t you?
nope. Quote me where I say that I’m talking about me.
I haven’t met any phalanx warrior for 3 months now and every of my dungeon runs have an ele. Or two. Who are you to tell me what’s the meta in EU?
and I haven’t seen a single LFG asking for an ele outside of high level fractals and ascalon. So who are you to tell me what’s the meta in the EU?
No. Before the phalanx there was axe/mace + gs build where you switched to gs only for 100b and then went back to axe/mace. There was one pure gs build but after testing it was quickly scrapped from the board.
Yet all the pugs I’ve seen ran GS only. Making it the meta.
Those are hardly spam examples.
how so? You never resort to auto attacks. According to you everyone has CDs and therefore resorts to auto attacking. Many builds never do.
Now go and count all the scrubs still corner stacking even though fgs was nerfed. Pugs don’t think.
depends on the dungeon. Stacking in CoE for example servers the purpose of getting people out of crystals. Stacking against a million of adds allows people in melee range to hit all at once instead of running around like headless chickens.
So are you saying that PvP has as many players as PvE? To which I ask, “where are you getting stats from”?
No. I’ve said that I’ve seen MMOs die for not catering or caring about their PvP at all and that both parts of the game are therefore equally important. You still didn’t provide your stats as to why you think PVE players outnumber PVXers and sole PVPers.
Are you seriously calling yourself “Elite”?
Now where did I ever say that?
(edited by Mirta.5029)
1) Phalanx Strength is not a requirement now, it only makes sense in parties that can’t maintain 25 might without it. Usually that means the party doesn’t have a S/F LH Ele.
2) Of course it wasn’t a requirement 8 months ago, the trait was introduced in April 2014, so it’s only 10 months old. It takes a bit for people to learn the new meta. Also, it’s not a requirement now, so you’re doubly wrong.
All the zerker dungeons that I’ve seen recently, ALL of them had one phalanx warrior. It made its way into the meta and is staying there. And the only place that I’ve seen people even mention an ele was level 40+ fractals and ascalon. Ele is not the meta in EU.
3) Before PS, Greatsword was one weapon of choice, with Axe/Mace being the other set for vuln stacking. There was also an Axe camping build which was roughly comparable, I think? In Phalanx Strength builds, you tend to camp GS even more thanks to Forceful Greatsword. You seem to imply the opposite.
but you only take one Phalanx. Any more damages your DPS. Before Phalanx greatsword was the weapon of choice of every warrior. It was the meta.
The only class in this game that can spam abilities is Thief. Everybody else has cooldowns. So yes, DPS suffers if you only use a single ability combined with autoattacks.
Staff or scepter ele (having a choice of 20 different buttons you’re pretty much working without CDs as you’re just rotating trough your strongest abilities) and bomb engi (place a bomb when you dodge, place a bomb when you crit, place a big bomb when it’s off cooldown, you’re just rotating trough stupid amount of bombs) would be only a few examples of spammy builds.
If PvE players understood the game better, I’d be more supportive of them coming up with builds. Sadly, in your post, you’ve illustrated the exact reason why meta builds are important. Players, in general, have a very poor grasp of how the game mechanics work. There’s nothing wrong with looking at the best of the best and attempting to mimic their ideas.
They don’t mimic it well, meaning that with a no brain power needed meta majority of players are performing worse than without it.
I hope that it improves after stability changes to stacks rather than duration. I don’t think that there’s a point creating this topic before stability rework though, but I do hope that it gets more balanced.
Because this thread indicates the population right?.. This thread has simply be bombarded by the white knight crusade, nothing more.
“I mean I know that forums tend to not represent majority of the population, but more often than not people go to the forums when they’re displeased with something.”
by the way, most people commenting here, I don’t see them white knighting like crazy all over the place (except Vayne, sorry Vayne but it just so happens that you’re quite the figure).
If it was an actual problem you would expect people complaining in game and being rallied here (at least that’s what we did in Wildstar, plus topics like NPE, traits and SAB also prove that something that is actually problematic will get unbelievable amount of responses).
As it just so happens I haven’t seen anyone in game complain about this on map chat, in my guild or anything like that (even though lots of things get discussed, starting from the new black wings, finishing with racism. Map chat tends to be a very chatty place) and the general consensus of this thread is that the bank space is fine.
and its a joke that hasn’t worked fine for lots and lots of people as well.
more people in this thread seem to think that it’s fine than not. Why aren’t these lots and lots of people here complaining then?
I mean I know that forums tend to not represent majority of the population, but more often than not people go to the forums when they’re displeased with something.
Zerker not that good?.. what?
Are we playing the same game?
yup. Just in different parties and preffering different types of content.
not that fun? since when did some random person’s opinion become such mandate that it could be used to claim that a meta “in general it’s not great”?
and no, the meta consists of a mixture of raw DPS and support DPS builds which happen to use berserker and/or assassin stats with some variation in runes and sigils. anyone who says “berserker is the meta” is either a clued up person being lazy and trying to shorthand or someone who doesn’t actually understand what the meta is and trying to pretend they know what they’re talking about.
speaking from an efficiency standpoint, the meta is the best, I don’t even know why you’re arguing against that – you might have had a point a year or so ago when we knew a lot less than we did now, but the meta is pretty set in stone at this point with all the research put in to it.
meta is easy to follow, that’s about it, not to mention it does change from time to time. For example, 8 months ago Phallanx wasn’t set in stone as a requirement and greatsword was the warrior’s weapon of choice. While 100 blades is indeed the most damaging single ability in game, however you do better DPS by chaining many abilities rather than just spamming that one.
It kind of reminds me vanilla WoW days. Everyone ran the same, except for the very few that would well outperform the usual. The build diversity is there, however barely anyone takes time to look at it and build their own as they’re told to just run zerker. Rather barely anyone from the PVE crowd takes a look there. Spvp is pretty varied and WvW has its own standards.
(edited by Mirta.5029)
Zerker is the stat meta. That’s only part of it.
If somebody can do better, we have a thing called YouTube. They can prove it.
There’s a DnT tournament coming up as well. If the meta isn’t the best, GO WIN SOME EASY PRIZES!
I don’t think that you’ll see that much dungeon runner typical zerkers in a tournament. Normally you see quite complex group compositions.
Good player recognizes that the meta comes about through the collective experience of thousands of players and hundreds of thousands of hours and has enough humility to recognize his own experience pales in comparison.
the current meta is beserker. From what I’ve seen it’s not the most fun, not the most useful and at least 70% of useless raging pugs follow it, so in general it’s not great. It’s not what’s the best period, but rather what is the most widespread.
Good player considers that optimal build = usable build.
good player experiments instead of blindly going for the meta.
Actually, the “I can do something with it so it’s balanced” argument is used mostly by fanboys who are trying to defend ArenaNet with the argument that, “The game is perfect” ergo “Everything is perfectly balanced” ergo “There’s no useless trait” ergo “Someone somewhere must be able to do something with any given trait, and that’s evidence that everything is balanced”. It’s an argument not worth debating simply because it’s based on a wrong premise – the zealous belief that the game is perfect.
How about, there are other builds besides Zerker and people that are Elite, but not Elitists, tend to run those? Healing has its place and is quite powerful, toughness and conditions have their place. Venom based thieves are far more annoying than heartseeker thieves and if you stick your head out of cof build diversity is quite diverse.
The true issue is that GW2 is balanced more due to PvP than PvE (regardless of how small the PvP community is when compared to the PvE or the WvW communities)
where are you getting stats from? I know quite a few MMOs that died for catering only to PVE and leaving PvP broken. PvP is just as big of a part of this game as PVE is.
Venoms and traps for thief
venoms on thief really effective against healing warrs in Spvp.
You will note that I did not employ the world “useless” (or any variation thereof) anywhere in my post. Rather I said specifically, “voiced grievances about.”
You and I are in agreement on the fundamental premise that anything which can be used does in fact have a use. However there is a distinction between something which has a use and something which has a practical use: The more “niche” an ability (weapon skill, utility, or trait) is, or if the sacrifice to obtain it is greater than the benefit of being able to use it, the less impact it has on build diversity.
Irregardless, if you are going to quote me then I humbly request that you address things I’ve actually said, rather than things you wish I had said: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man
okay, then how about, if they’re not useless, they’re not broken? Some people use them in their builds when they build for specific purposes. Your normal meta would only build for straightforward damage, so removing/ changing builds would just result in less build diversity. So I’m still waiting on an answer of what the traits that are completely pointless are.
And can you stop being so negative towards people? “Should be considered common knowledge”, but that’s not necessarily what OP is talking about. Also if it’s common knowledge, why do I not know about it? Also quoting a strawman? How is saying that if traits are useful then they’re fine a strawman?
I apologize for being that guy, but you can easily answer this question yourself by briefly skimming the first couple pages of basically any Proffession forum.
Every Proffession has a list of Traits, Weapon Skills, and Utilities they’ve voiced grievances about since day one.
These complaints are voiced so frequently and for so long that they can, and should, be considered common knowledge. I don’ t think it’s necessary to try and distract from the argument with unneccesary handwaving.
I looked at the character I’m on right now and I can see how all of the traits are useful. Perhaps they’re not the meta, doesn’t mean that they’re not useful.
GW2 is built in a way that things that could add to build diversity are either broken or underpowered. ArenaNet has refused in 2.5 years to fix them.
examples of that would be nice. Which traits, skills and/ or trait lines on which characters?
TIL: The Mordrem Vinewrath and Tequatl the Sunless are bosses from Wildstar, not GW2. :P
now I’m super confused, because re-done version of Tequatl launched earlier than Wildstar o.o
EDIT: oh, woops, wrote Carbine instead of Anet XD
that being said, I see correlation between aetherblade fractal, asura boss that spawns golems and the end of Skullcano and thaumanova reactor fractal end boss and X-89. :P
Why would he not be? He’s absolutely correct. Ferocity is one of the reasons that Zerker builds are the meta. And healing power is currently pure garbage.
staff ele with healing power can heal 70% of their teammates health back up. It’s not garbage, it’s just that most people don’t see the reason to run healer and therefore don’t know how useful it is.
no because conditions in group pve are broken and therefore useless
group PVE is not the majority of the game though. In dungeons it works just fine even if your party has 2 hybrids and works very well in Spvp.
Most boss encounters are designed in a certain way. This favors certain builds. To change this you have to design encounters that have different goals. If the goal is to keep a key target alive by applying as many and as long-lasting boons to it as possible you need a different build compared to a goal where you have to control a key target as efficient as possible.
The key lies therefore in a much higher variety for the encounters than we have today.
healing up siege carriers in Silverwastes is really fun. And Tequatl is Crit Immune. So I think that Anet is actually doing a variety of mechanics, but most don’t notice.
ALLOT of traits for allot of classes need buffs or TOTAL reworks.
helps if you give suggestions to rework specific traits.
(edited by Mirta.5029)
I do believe that they have some server sync issues, even though my problems are lesser. In Spvp and dungeons, if someone is lagging, the location where they’re downed is going to be different on your and their screen, meaning that sometimes you can’t finish/ revive them.
teamspeak Friday is underway again. Best time to join and hop onto TS to meet us
Only 4? That is only 1000 crests, which is what many of the items cost. 12 for 3000 is probably the average.
what items? Where? 1000 for all carapace skins, 1000 for all the pinks and 1200 for the pets I believe. That’s the most expensive items that I know of. And when I hit 1000 I tend to get the skin that I want so I only really need to dedicate 4 slots.
approximately 1300 gold. That’s how much the legendary that I’m making is costing me. + sooo much time.
that’s a very short survey. All it shows is the correlation between own personal opinion of how others view you and the narcissism test.
I´d rethink that engineer decision. Personally I enjoyed my main immensely, but in a nutshell, you can do things with rather complicated class mechanics most classes do very easily with their basic abilities – and often they do it better.
however you can pull stupidly massive DPS, oh and your revive circle ability is far better than the one eles (channeled, only gets one person up, bugs), mesmers(makes the person die after like 10 seconds of being up -_-;), or necros (mostly because it’s channeled) get.
