Yeah but whats so good with it when u cant progress in any way, get better gear, feel that ur character gets better etc. I want to do pvp to earn thoes points so i can buy that weapon i want etc, and see a differnce when i fight ppl that dont have same gear as me. When i talk to ppl it looks like u are running around doing things but u dont know why, there is no goal to reach. U are just doing quests, events for fun.
you do PvP to compete on equal grounds. To raise your server’s level or to raise your own rank. You do PVE to get all the pretty things, to follow the story, to challenge yourself not because you have to, but because you want to. That’s the point. You do content because you like it, not because you have to do it to not fall back on the gear treadmill.
But dose gear matter in WwW, is there alot of different gears that takes time to get ?, if not i maybe i just play a singelplayer game instead
teamwork matters the most. Hence why sometimes teams of 10 can hold against teams of 50.
Then it’s zerging.
Then it’s individual gear.
Ascended takes quite a while to get, but it’s barely better than exotic. Do you really play MMOs just for gear progression?
Many mmos dies, but not this one and it has almost no endgame content, i dont get it
it’s because MMO player base is aging. We don’t have the time to do excessive raids and endless gear progression. That’s why both horizontal (cosmetic) progression MMOs and sandbox MMOs are picknig up.
Except GW2 isn’t a sandbox MMO. But you’re not completely wrong though.
I think there are 3 types of people drawn to GW2:
1. The casual players who just want to have fun with their friends by doing a casual dungeon runs or other casual activities (which this game has a decent amount of) without having to worry about BiS gear or learning strategies for difficult encounters.
2. The special snowflakes who get their satisfaction out of looking prettier or more unique than others rather than being better or more skilled than others.
3. The competitive players who like GW2’s PvP or GW2’s unique game-mode called World versus World.
I personally fall under category 3.
I know that. That’s why I marked two categories. “horizontal progression MMOs” and “sandbox MMOs”. Though there’s noone to say that some new developer couldn’t make an MMO that’s both

climb fractals. Find other 4 people that are fairly new to the game and schedule Arah or Aetherblade Path runs. Those are fun to do for instanced content ^^

except when their account gets hacked and the hackers send off double the amount of money.
Mirta Orrian Cake. That’s me. Whisper me if you need help getting into the right overflow
It’s easy to defend the opposing side of an argument when you are not affected by it whatsoever :P
in real life banks also have withdraw limits. I’m sure that it affects someone, but we put up with it for better security.
they know very well that it will impact 1%. If it impacted noone it wouldn’t matter to gold sellers either. Yes, you have to re-think your system. But it’s quite pointless complaining about it.
For example why instead of sending gold directly to you can’t your guildies add it to the guild bank as that one runs off a separate withdraw for 500 gold?
RUN TO ORR IS IN AN HOUR! Whisper Mirta Orrian Wake to get into the right overflow of Metrica Province
And the card game is winning in diverse gameplay? =P
well card games are PvP. And PvP is diverse in build variety here too :P
it’s in 2 hours guys
Making a new character for it now ^^
As long as you have something that’s unkillable with direct damage, you are forcing your parties to get a condition spec in the group. As far as you have mobs that kill you if you don’t kill them fast, you are forcing your parties to have high direct damage. Combining the two is just forcing two specs to coexist, but is still forcing and people will start looking “need engineer or condi necro”.
the enemies in Silverwastes are not unkillable without condition damage. They would simply take longer to do so. And yes, forced meta will ALWAYS occur. Even if they changed the mechanics to make sure that you don’t heal normally and need a healer and things like that, a new most useful party composition will settle down. The difference is that right now it’s zerker. Later it could be zerker and rampager, or soldier, or whatever.
well, congrats to you. I only pug fractals, and yesterday, for example, I was running with a group with 2 warriors, one thief, one ele and me (guardian). It’s almost close to meta! However, i never got more than 5 stacks of might at the same time, and those mostly came from my firefields and blasts. Damage was miserable and we did die to a group of mobs a couple of times.
Fractals is really easy if you run with people who are doing their thing. If they are not, once the aegis, blocks, heals, and regen, are on cd, you are dead.
I only pug fractals as well. And no, often players in pugs especially on fractals don’t stack might. The thing is, I’m not squishy enough to die if I don’t kill mobs fast. That’s the whole point of not running in zerker.
As long as people know the individual fractal mechanics you can finish any run quite smoothly. What gear people are wearing will only impact whether you’ll finish it 10-20 minutes early or will you take that extra time.
I support this idea. I also think that the remainer of LS should be sold in some sort of a bundle by now
In higher level content, tanking up on toughness/vitality does not get you very far.
In regards to fractals, there’s only 1 level that I haven’t been in, which is 50. According to people that have been there, it’s not that different, so I don’t know what kind of higher level content you’re talking about.
Regarding the supposed build diversity that high armor mobs encourage, thats simply forcing players to run conditions.
not really if you mix and match boss mechanics. The same way that all warrior was the meta, until people realized what uses eles and guardians have.
I really dont see how we can have build diversity. As long as theres a meta, thats the build that will work. In fractals you cannot risk mobs smothering you with their hard hitting attacks. You have to kill them before they kill you, and for that, conditions and anything other than zerker is a bad idea.
I’m yet to be smothered by anything in fractals. It’s really nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be. Hard if you’re soloing 50? Sure! Hard in general when you go in with people with any builds that simply know what they’re doing? No.
That is exactly my point, you dont get 1 shotted because you dodge/blind what ever, but when you miss, then they 1 shot you, that is the problem, if armor is not going to prevent that, then it is a useless stat, rising difficulty makes it only more useless.
but that’s what we’re telling you. If you get hit when you have a high health pool or armour, you do not get one shotted.
The only time I WAS being one shotted in fractals was in level 33 (outflanked as the instability), with the Molten Fractal as the last boss fractal. Mostly because AoE’s counted as attacks from behind AND sides, so it was a very serious multiplyer to that damage.
Well they’re changing conditions caps. With Silverwastes having high armour mobs that should be ideally killed by conditions, the meta might change depending on what boss mechanics will be.
I run a hybrid necro as my fractal toon with high health pool and I’ve yet to be one shooted by anything in as high as 49. Is the difference between 49 and 50 really that bad?
I like the underwater content just as much as the land content.
Doesn’t seem broken to me, so what is broken about underwater content?
some classes are more than awful at it. The weapon skills that they get are no good and their class mechanics don’t work properly.
Sounds fun!
Who do we need to contact to make sure we are in the same “area”?
Me, Mirta Wake (or try to whisper my account)
It may not be terrorist attack, but was still caused by evil man. Many plane crash, yes, about 100 a year but not many, less than 5 are because of human evil.
Again, if this was american flight, no way they put this update out but because german flight they no care. It’s okay, americans always think they #1 in everything and dont care for anyone. I go now.
Sorry again for your great-grandmother.
evil man, what? So now, having a mental disease is evil? You’re stigmating depressed people. Well done. Well done in injecting even more stigma into the whole reason as to why that man didn’t even want to tell his work place that he was diagnosed with depression.
the game is unplayable for me in the current state, i cant stand the way the character is.
that is suffering the effects of an imo kittened aprils fools joke, a lot of people agree with this and aint playing. i cant see how this is hard to comprehend or undestand?
besides the point that i found it completely distasteful, when i made connection to jesus christ and the planecrash within 1 minute of looking at it.
funny how human mind sees a pattern in everything, is it not? If you can find multiple connections, then the object in question isn’t portraying anything. I can see the letter T, I can see a bug that used to happen in Beta, I can see the default model position that the model will revert to if an animation broke.
Condolences for your great-grandmother, sorry for your loss.
But your argument is strawman.
No one blaming ArenaNet for plane crash. They were extremely shortsighted to put this update out but it is what it is. What’s outrageous is all these Americans going ‘suck it up’ because it’s german flight, not us flight. If I come on forums after 9/11 and say suck it up Americans, many flights go down. They’d perm-ban me from forums forever.
how is it shortsighted though? 150 people died. That’s sad. However literally every week a similar amount of people die in other plane crashes. It’s not uncommon. It wasn’t a terrorist attack. It’s sad, however, if you look at it like that, then everything is offensive.
The characters are in sepia, with caps from the wrong time-line and making sounds like 5 year old children. If that’s offensive, then everything is.
Do you Americans understand just how stupid you look to the rest of the world?
If 9/11 had happened a week ago, you’d be just as outraged but because it’s a german flight, who cares right?
Pathetic.
I’m an European and one of the guys commenting here is German. My family right now is in the middle of a warzone. Should I be triggered by the personal story or something? Or should we go out and beat up all the children making plane noises?
A plane crashed. Happens almost every day somewhere. Get the hell over it. People die in thousands around the world daily. It’s sad, but not a single life is worth more than a different life. And literally nobody cares what situation you’re in. Someone might be killed by a falling over cow. We won’t ban cows. Someone might have died in a car crash. Racing games won’t cease to exist.
My great-grandmother died two days ago. You know what? I’m not going to blame a media over that.
who exactly do you think has been paying for the free content so far ?
its players like myself who regularly spend real cash for gems and buy the dopey items like the base guitar or quagan mail carriers
so do I. And we receive the items that we payed money for. And that’s all. There’s no guarantee nor promise to make more content attached to those items.
yeah i know gw2 can be easy to pick back up but while that may work for gw2 most other games are not quite so easy to catch up on
well if the reason those players left in the first place is a gap in content, then they’ll encounter it again in a different MMO, meaning that whether other said MMO is hard or easy to catch up on doesn’t mean much as that player will get bored again eventually anyway. Not to mention with MMOs working on level increases, everyone is put back on an even field every expansion, meaning that catching up for a new player is not harder than for an old player.
don’t you think that players dropping out would be a bad thing tho and if we take too big a break some of us may not come back at all for the expansion
1. Where would they go when all MMOs function that way?
2. I took a 10 month break previously. Guild Wars 2 is designed to be user friendly when it comes to putting it down and picking it back up again.
Yes I agree that outfits have a role, but when ALL new skins are outfits, it takes away from the feeling of customization in the game. If for every armor skin we are getting half a dozen new outfits…. well. You can see where that leads to.
I will never endorse getting rid of the outfits, but many of the outfits could easily be done as the armor skins.
Give us both please! This lack of customization that the Armor skins offers is disheartening. I for one, do not want my character looking like a recolour of everyone elses just to have some of the newer pieces.
considering the ratio of armour skins versus outfits available, I believe that outfits have a long way to go to catch up on the quantity. That and a lot of new armour skins are probably locked in the expansion :I
They both have different and equally valid roles.
Outfits are far more useful if you’re levelling, whereas you can mix and match parts of the armour sets with other pieces, so they’re more flexible.
I think, if they got rid of outfits, they would have to also make transmutation free while levelling, or something; as it is cost prohibitive to transmute everything, every few levels.
not only that. Most games have multiple costume slots allowing you to switch between armour sets. To keep transmutation system alive, Guild Wars 2 obviously can’t do that. Having outfits allows me to change my appearance on the fly if I feel like it.
yeah they have known for some time they would have to make an expansion sooner or later in all that time surely it must have occurred to someone that they where gona need more staff to keep the game going while making said expansion
wouldn’t it have made sense if over the last year Anet had employed alot of part time staff and taught them there jobs to make sure they had a reserve of potential staff for this very moment and could do both
i mean they certainly have the income to to employ these guys after all they have gem sale income and projected profits from the expansion
and no im not genius business man but this just seems common sense to me
and since they don’t seem to have had the foresight to do that them shouldent the now be making efforts to employ more staff in order to meet both demands ?
staff costs money. Already they have a giant development team in comparison to most MMOs. Surely you would rather spend some months re-positioning your resources, than potentially driving yourself into minus by over-hiring and managing temporary staff that would need to be trained too?
The problem with the bi-weekly content wasn’t that it was released every two weeks, it was that it was taken away every two weeks.
If they’d been adding permanent content every two weeks there wouldn’t have been nearly as many complaints. Also, the expansion is paid, I don’t see why it would require taking resources from the free content development (and if it did, they could have said that).
well if you have 100 people, 10 are working on bugs, 20 are working on under the hood and life improvement updates (we’ve seen many of those), 40 are working on bi-weekly updates and 30 are working on the expansion, how long do you think the expansion would take? We could wait an extra 2-3 years while they finish it and bug test it, or they can kick in high gear for a few months. I completely do not think that it’s unreasonable.
The expansion pack launch/rollout has not been planned well… Existing players have been left in the lurch with only new dyes and instruments to fiddle (literally?) around with.
Lack of content creates 2 problems:
1) bores your most loyal players. gem store items are nice for a day or two but they have real dr-playing a bass guitar at ulgoth doesn’t make the fight better.
2) creates unrealistic expectations for the expansionAfter this drought of content the expansion not only needs to deliver almost as well as the gw2 core game itself it almost has too.
weigh this game against others in the market and tell me which game actually not only kept 2 week updates coming, but never hit this required content drought before an expansion?
yeah i realise we buy gems with no promise of anything other than what we bought from the gem store with them but even so i only choose to buy gems to help fund the new content (and many other players think this way too) i have come to expect from them coz i sure as kitten didnt need a bass guitar in game
well good for you. Some people wanted the bass guitar. Some people still want a regular guitar.
The same way that if you’re playing a sub MMO, you’re paying for the access to the game and not promised continued development, unless you’re specifically told so.
Don’t read into purchases for more than what they are.
well what does Battlenet do at the end of one WoW’s expansion cycles?
Whenever an expansion is less than a year away, a studio tends to enter high gear and shift all development onto that to make sure that it’s bug free and polished. Having in mind that we entered closed beta stress tests, I would say it’s less than 6 months away.
when you buy gem store items you’re paying for the item itself that you’re buying, not for future development. For all intents and purposes you don’t need to be paying them anything right now and are free to take a break.
i think agnostic was created because atheism was being used too broadly.
because god does not exist, and a lack of a belief in god are two very different ideas.
yet you’re attaching a different definition to an already defined word. It might be used too broadly, however it still doesn’t change that the original word still carries the already defined meaning.
Ah kitten , no more raffles, no more Twitch giveaways, no more precursor giveaways. This makes me sad
how would it impact precursor giveaways? Were you supposed to pay for that precursor that you were given?
agnostic, or i dunno, represents a true lack of a belief
atheism represents a belief in the non existence of god.
the answer is one googling away!
“atheism
?e????z(?)m/Submit
noun
disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.”
Everyone is atheist to a point. For example if you’re Christian you won’t have any belief in Egyptian gods. Take that for what you will. Agnosticism and Atheism are both very much interchangeable words.
When someone says something incredulous, saying i dont believe them, is not the same things as saying you are a liar.
but default position of Atheism IS “I don’t believe you”. And OP is just being childish. The same way that some religious people are capable of being childish and offended over someone not believing. Lack of a belief system doesn’t make you any less human in your behavior and it also doesn’t save nor kitten you to make any more or less mistakes.
EDIT: to make it simpler: I do not believe in any God or Deity. I might very well be wrong. However there isn’t sufficient evidence for me to believe in them.
(edited by Mirta.5029)
@Mirta the 0.02% was to show that what these players did didn’t impact you at all. I get arguments from people saying they are for this measure but :
- it doesn’t benefit them
- it actually harms others
- it won’t annoy gold sellers for long
How in the world can somebody be supporting it lmao !?And no it’s not akin to real life issues. This is all a game and freedom is being restrained. But well whatever. I’ll just give less stuff, won’t rid people of their precursors they are too afraid to list and won’t give 500g discounts on leggies I could sell on the TP :/ Cuz there is no solution. With the current mail limit my account would just be disabled in a months time at the rate I do my stuff.
disabled? You’ll simply get a warning “limit has been reached”. You can still do long time arrangements like normal, except that players will pay you over a month, rather than all in one go.
It will annoy gold sellers and prevent hackers from trafficking all of the gold off your account. Worth the inconvenience if you ask me. The same as Rift has a rule – you can’t sell on the trade post, unless you buy at least some gems at some point (or buy PLEX with platinum). Sure it inconveniences regular players, but also prevents bots from manipulating the economy.
Ok, I ll say atheisim is more than a lack of belief, it is a belief in no god. A as a prefix means not, or non thei represents god/religion, and ism is basically a belief/practice
so atheisim, i would say is not the lack of belief in god, but rather the belief in no god.
i think agnosticism, is probably more properly a lack of belief.
the default position is always negative until proven otherwise. “I have a dolphin in my bath” “I don’t believe in you”. Atheism is a similar deal. Still you can’t believe in lack of belief. That’s kind of like playing “I’m not going to play chess because I dislike it”.
So why is it I get a warning for discussing the non-existence of God and criticising religion yet religious gamers get no warnings for praising God? Like you said, I have freedom of speech and right to express my opinion – so why is Atheistic discussion punishable and religious discussion isn’t?
having a hypothetical discussion is alright, however I bet you actually tried to insult them, or say that they shouldn’t be allowed to discuss it at some point. Like some other post said:
“I like Micky Mouse” is alright
“I don’t believe/ don’t like Micky Mouse” is equality alright
“you’re not as intelligent as me because of the position you hold” is not alright.
Exactly. Map chat is not your personal space. That includes for praising God. Religious people have the right to be offended, so I have the right to be offended when someone questions my lack of belief.
you have the right to be offended. But that’s about it. Everyone can ignore how you feel freely. Like I said before, unless it’s against the rules, you can’t stop others from using free speech. Some people would be offended if the conversation went to eating meat. Some people would be offended if politics, vaccinations, childcare, etc entered the chat. However they’re all valid topics. So yeah. You have the right to stay offended, but that’s about it.
you must be easy to offend then. I’m an Atheist too and I don’t care what people talk about in the map chat. Map chat is not your personal space.
And in fact people should stop using the “it offends me” card. I bet you anything, any topic that you can think about, it offends someone. However you don’t get to be a special snowflake and withhold others right to free speech, unless of course, they’re doing something against the rules themselves.
(edited by Mirta.5029)
We’re talking about less than 0.02% of the playerbase trading outside of TP.
then what was the point of this spiteful comment?
I just hope that less precursors being traded cheap will make people want to list higher to recoup for listing costs.
guild raffles, giveaways, etc…
I do those too, you know. But never have given away 500 raw gold in a week. Give away materials, gem cards, gemstore items, dyes, etc and then do give aways of smaller amounts of gold. Or send it over the course of the upcomming month.
We’ll get the same spam by them, people wil lstill have their accoutns hacked. You guys fail to see the greater picture…
there’s no permanent solution to gold sellers, nor to real life thefts. Should we stop trying just because of that? That’s akin to saying “why is this city spending money to pay the police? It’s quite pointless anyway” or “why does this bank have a withdrawal limit?”
It will stop hackers from hacking rich accounts like yours and just sending off all the gold. Sure you can contact support, but no guarantee that they’ll trace the gold back or give it back to you. Now at maximum they can steal 500 gold if that does happen. This update protects people like you. Why are you against it?
Just gonna stop all the people aiming at the legendary selling that profits “only me” => it’s also cheaper for the buyer.
I realize a lot of people are jsut salty because they feel poor. That’s sad. I always tried to help people and gave great tips but whatever, all you can see is the fact that I complain legitimately about my gold not moving as fast as before, but as always, if it doesn’t affect YOU, you don’t care.
I just hope that less precursors being traded cheap will make people want to list higher to recoup for listing costs. Now that was me being salty
Thread is pretty much over. None of you brought any arguments in, you’re basically coming to say you’re happy that it’s happening when it benefits none of ya.
I bought my precursor off the trading post. I don’t mind the gold sink. And also the only way to circumvent the trade post fee is to trade directly with people, where other people can trick you and scam you. And then Anet won’t do anything about it, because direct trading is not encouraged.
And how would that make people want to list higher? Those that already list are listing at what they’re listing. They’re not going to re-list. Those not listing, can list for whatever they want, but the truth is, the cheapest one is going to go first. Would you really want to wait for half a year or perhaps never until that cheapest one becomes yours (remember precursor crafting with HoT).
I’m sorry that you feel bummed, because an anti-theft system (that’s in place in real life too by the way), limits how much you can earn and spend, however I don’t think that an anti-theft system should be changed or removed, just because it inconveniences some people.
Even when I ask in LA, there are a dozen peeps richer than me so idk what to think anymore :/
at some points in the game’s life, I might be richer than you. Built a legendary, going for the second. However my income a week is pathetic. I just get really patient with hoarding when I have to.
Lol. I feel good to be making ~100G a month. I don’t understand how players are making 500G/month from farming/dungeon runs/whatever unless it is playing the Trading Post.
Gratz, though. Sorry to hear it will affect you so much.
even better… This guy apparently makes 500G a week and calls himself middle class o.o
I picked up two new recruits recently, completely new to the game, out of which one of them was at 450 tailoring and like 400 weaponsmithing… While still being level 40-something.
If you’re not crafting to level, but just crafting to get your crafting up, you won’t spend that much. And now at least the prices are stable, so unlike the people that were there when ascended crafting just entered the scene, you won’t spend 500G just trying to craft up your armour.
