Sword has no damage increase on its non auto attack.
i really wonder how people can still believe that.
The only time it is a dps increase is when on glint, when on Shiro it’s a loss due to UA not being affected by quickness
Even on Glint it isn’t necessarily true. I was actually testing this out yesterday and had slower times (2x indestructible golem) when I used UA. I’m not certain but I think this might have been due to a combination of the Assassin’s Annihilation trait and UA screwing up your positioning.
that would require getting ley line sparks and bloodstone dust
Who doesn’t have bloodstone dust? Sparks are trivial once you can talk to the Nuhoch vendors (you also get 15 from story).
I have around 45 Charged Quartz Crystals sitting in my bank, mostly crafted back when Quartz was way cheaper (I had stacks upon stacks of the stuff from the Bazaar of the Four Winds), and I gotta say, I kinda wish I’d just kept them as Quartz.
If you want to turn them into gold, either craft sheets of charged ambrite (which sell for 2g atm) or grow lamps, if you have the recipe. That should give a little more than 2g per charged but also takes 10 each.
Why not ley-line infused tools, Wanze (assuming they have the expansion, of course)?
There are 4 crystal nodes in dry top. Two are static locations by crash site 1. The third spawns at crash site 3 or in the inquest base below. The 4th is a rich node in cragrock palace (go to vine bridge WP, then east then south) only accessible starting at ten minutes left of sandstorm (so, 50 minutes past the hour) in a t4 or higher map. The rich node can be reached without aggroing the event by hugging the left wall of the cave.
The only other crystal node is the home instance node (Gift of Quartz can be purchased from the laurel vendor for 25 laurels and 15 gold). This node always provides three crystals, with an additional chance to drop 5 crystals or a charged crystal with each strike.
If you farm all five nodes, you will get a minimum of 22 crystal each day. Note that these can only be farmed once per day per account. Also unlike other harvesting nodes, these nodes will regenerate at reset, even if you just gathered from them.
If anyone needs help finding these, I am happy to show you where they are.

How hard do you think it is, to meet those conditions in WvW raid?
I find it a bit ridiculous debating one skill balance in WvW environment with people that clearly never set food into WvW, let alone have an acutal serious guild raid in there… And this is what this topic has turned into.
That’s the thing, though. It very well may be that the ability needs a tweak, particularly at long range, but I am of the belief that the cruel repercussion trait (and yes I am sure it procs constantly in zergs) is a big part of the problem and needs to be addressed first.
The arguments in defense of this skill are hilarious. Just strafe, yeah lolk, zerg strafes everytime they see a CoR coming, that will get us places. Just dodge, yeah lolk, lets dodge everytime we see a CoR, wasting our dodges when our melee hits one another, that will get us places. Seriously, do you guys even take the time to think how idiotic your solutions sound?
No more idiotic than nerfing a skill because of WvW, really.
That sounds like a great suggestion! Any ideas about runes, sigils, and gear sets?
I’m using strength runes and strength/force sigils. There are cheaper options, though. As I said, berserker for gear. you need offensive stats if you want to be able to contribute solid dps.
If they really want people to watch, they just need to give away ascended gear boxes or unique skins.
First thing you need to do is working on getting Glint fully unlocked. Glint is great for stacking boons on your group and shield is a very nice support weapon. I like Jalis as a second legend. While I suggest hammer for your second weapon set, you could always give staff a try to be more support heavy. For gear, go with berserker.
Most of the time I think this kind of complaint is silly, but I have to agree in this case. I understand this is important to them and they want to promote it. But I could care less. An option to not see a given message again would be appreciated. I would prefer not to have it cluttering up the screen the entire time I play and every time I zone.
Pretty simple thought here. I usually run Assassin/Dwarf while on land and I don’t usually remember to switch stances before going underwater (because it happens so rarely). It’d be nice if we had a different set of stances to select from underwater so we don’t inadvertently end up without usable skills in the water.
This was already added, but you need to select Mallyx and Shiro manually.
Since UA ends prematurely all the time, any chance it wasn’t still going?
Roy, really simple to recreate bug.
1. On land, enter Glint stance.
2. Enter water – your legend will automatically switch to something else (or blank if you don’t have one chosen yet).
3. Leave water and you return to Glint stance.
-When you activate any Facet when you come out of water in Glint, they will immediately shut off by the next pulse of the Facet-Workaround fix, switch your stance to your other option on land. And then switch back to Glint. It will be fixed and Facets will again remain on. The workaround issue is Legend swap still has a 10s cooldown even when out of combat.
No, the problem is that you have Glint selected underwater still and it no longer works. The workaround is to select Shiro and Mallyx as your underwater legends.
Also the stupid bugs on Unrelenting Assault need to be fixed that let you get hit and applied with conditions while using Unrelenting Assault. Lastly, the bug that makes confusion damage hit for every strike of your Unrelenting Assault. It’s like Retaliation on steroids and it’s so annoying.
You sure those are bugs? Pretty sure the second is working as intended. And on the former, if you mean due to moving through wells/traps, that seems like legit counter play.
Sorry, but the last thing we need is weapon skills tied to a legendary, especially in place of weapon swap.
No changes need to be map to the structure of Tangled Depths. It’s by far the most interesting map to explore, with so many hidden places. It just takes getting used to and those that complain aren’t giving it a chance.
Agreed with this. Once you get used to it (and Nuhoch wallows helps a lot), this map is really fun. Each of the four lanes has a unique little story, which I like. The biggest map annoyance (and this applied to all of them) is that if you don’t know the events well, it can be a royal pain to tell if they are above or below you.
By the way, there already are unique skins for Pods/caches/etc. Duffy has a list of them:

@notalent
Could you please post a Picture of that food?
I would like to use it too, but I Play the game in German and the names of Foods are different here.
You can find it here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Slice_of_Allspice_Cake
I know the rare ones exist, but never gotten one. Would happily sell them since I don’t like the look of the reclaimed/machined weapons anyway
But you need them for the elite spec ascended weapons.
Good to know, but also not a concern for me right now.
It really depends on what you want to play.
If you find standard GW2 too easy and “light”, then you may want to look at it.
If you like standard GW2 how it is, feeling it’s a nice level of “casual and relaxed”, then HoT will likely not appeal to you very much.
HoT also requires time in larger chunks to make real progress than GW2 core does. Again, if this is good or bad depends on you.
Well said. When I first started on the new maps, it felt like a huge accomplishment just to find a new waypoint if that tells you anything. You really have to be more aware of what is going on around you or you can get trampled in a hurry (sometimes literally). It is also a necessity, IMO, to change up your tactics depending on what you are fighting. If that sounds like fun, you will probably like it.
They try too hard to make sure the class wasn’t overpowered so people would not cry that they handicapped it. I also noticed that when I’m fighting this class using other classes. Its not a challenge. I can beat it easy. When I see a Mesmar or a Thief I worry a bit Herald is one of the few classes that when I encounter it I know I’m gonna win easy.
Unranked? I don’t know much about pvp, but I bet there are a lot of heralds that don’t really understand the class yet.
I don’t find managing energy and cool downs a big deal at all. Can you give a more specific example?
It happened to me in Tangled Depths. I was barely moving, it kept turning off immediately. I think it start to happen after I came out of the water.
Fixed after swapping to Shiro and cast Impossible Odds.
The solution has already been posted. Change your underwater legends to Shiro and Mallyx.
This bug is happening to my revenant in WvW. Didn’t enter any water, nothing turned off my glint aspect. Zoned in… all aspects cycle once for 3 seconds. I do get the buff, but then it turns off all by itself. Facet of Strength turns off .5 seconds after activating.
Facet of Chaos turns off after cycling once, but doesn’t go no cooldown, so at least we can get perma-protection.
All that said, this is more piano-playing than engineer.
Does swapping legends fix it?
Yeah, the two Boysenberry mentioned are easy to get gold on (I have gold on both and I am terrible at this kind of thing). You don’t actually need poison lore for drone race, just go to the left instead of taking the last jump.
I know the rare ones exist, but never gotten one. Would happily sell them since I don’t like the look of the reclaimed/machined weapons anyway
My problems with hyperbole
I know what you mean. I’m not a violent person, but every time someone refers to some trivial thing as a “slap in the face” part of me wishes someone would actually do that to them so they quit saying it.
The expansion has issues for sure (e.g. the fact that the final story mission is still buggy as hell weeks after release is inexcusable) and there were clear missteps with some of the reward structures. but despite all that, I love the Revenant, have been having a blast in the expansion areas, and am happy to have so many more options for endgame content.
Is this a threat?
Sure sounds like it. Pretty funny too to effectively say, “yeah, see that massively successful company over there, you don’t want to make the same mistake and wind up like they did.”
My suggestion for armor is to salvage green cloth armor and all blues. buy silk and thick leather from broker to supplement. For lower tier cloth and leather, buy blue gloves with karma and throw them into the mystic forge to get salvageable gloves. Above all, don’t be in a hurry. It takes time.
For weapons, harvest the raw materials and make your own.
Ascended gear is a bit more annoying to get, but far from requiring a gem purchase. Started playing in April. Made my first three pieces of ascended armor just before the expansion (got lucky there, admittedly). I have made two more since, and closing in on the third.
Ascended weapons aren’t nearly as bad, IMO, and contribute more to overall dps. Armor is substantial work for minimal payoff and not really required in my eyes, but nothing about it is unobtainable. If you want it, go farm the mats (or the parts you reasonably can) and get it done. The price on Silk is down considerably since the expansion hit. I have bought silk and T6 leather cheap and gotten the rest myself (I will say I don’t envy cloth wearers…while they have tried to balance it out heavy armor still seems easier).
Yep. While there are some rough edges to say the least, having a great time overall.
I’ve been convinced since the expansion came out that they buffed the ecto rate closer to 1.0 per, at least until the update earlier this week.
I don’t like the change at all (since facets no longer work underwater) but will deal with it.
Didn’t they fix this issue a while ago now? Guess they might of forgotten some areas, but who knows..
No, this is a different (but similar issue) resulting from making facets no longer work underwater in the most recent update.
Rework Cruel Repercussion. Make it give you a period of unblockable (2s?) when you hit someone blocking. This way it would synergize with every weapon instead of just hammer while keeping the theme of the trait. It would also make Revenant stronger against DH.
This already exists. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Malicious_Reprisal
No, it doesn’t. I’m thinking more like a mini Signet of Might.
If they want to keep a damage bonus, I think it is fine as long as it is split up into a number of packets. For instance 5 attacks with +10% each instead of a single attack with a +50% modifier.
Yeah, I wouldn’t dream of using Scholar runes. I’m sure there are people that do that it is fantastic for. I’m also sure there are people that do, who see little benfefit. Pretty sure I would be in the latter camp.
I’m generally a WvW player, so I thought that extra bit of Vit would be worth it since I won’t be able to dodge everything thrown at me. And time to farm HP for Herald! And make an ascended sword x.x
For WvW, if you are with a Zerg, you will probably want the retribution line, which can give you stability on dodge , 10% damage resist against targets beyond 360, and additional damage resist below 75% health (and more), along with the herald GM that gives an additional stack of stability whenever stability is applied to you.
Not sure if there is water in the new WvW map, but it sounds like you went underwater. Change your underwater legends to Shiro/Mallyx and this won’t happen anymore.
I have had this happen on rare occasion after using a waypoint, though (not sure on the exact sequence that causes it), which might be the case here. A legend swap should fix it.
Also happens in WvW, I’m currently in the green spawn area in Eternal Battlegrounds and no facet lasts linger than 2 seconds before switching itself off with no CD.
It happens very often. I change to dragon, press any stance skill and it cancels itself. If i change stance and switch back it works again
I was using marauder with zerker trinkets and standard power shiro/glint builds.
The extra vitality for the price of the power wasn’t worth it as much as I tought it would so I swapped back to berserkers. You will have more critical chance but loss of power makes you actually do less damage, specially in groups.
Even on the chest, which has the highest stats, it is only a difference of 20 power. However, the loss of ferocity is a bit bigger than that. I suspect what you felt wasn’t power so much as the combination of the two.
You do give up a little bit of offense, but you get more total stat points. Again, with the chest as an example, 376 for Svaard vs 343 for Zojja, a difference of 34. 67 of that is vitality, so the offensive stat points for Svaard is 309.
So, you give up 34 points in offensive stats to gain 67 vitality. Whether that is worth it or not is up to the individual.
I’m using berserkyrie trinkets with it. I run glint/Jalis with sword/shield/hammer, which makes you relatively tanky for dps gear. You give up relatively little in the way of offense to run Marauder vs Berserker, so Shiro/Glint (the highest dps build) or whatever power build you want to use is fine.
Make sure and have a look at furious maintenance oil.
Folks, You need to set your underwater legends to something other than Glint. That is the cause, because they no longer work underwater and bug out.
As Cyninja said, you can fix this by swapping legends.
Thanks for the advise guys, I went for rage because it was just so kitten cheap it was like 3G and change for a full set. I’ll use those for now until I earn enough G for the runes of strength if it i s THAT much better
How’s it working out for you?
Herald is pretty balanced. Revenant is not.
This from the leader of the Nerf Herald Brigade? What changed?
those calling for nerfs like to add more number to damage output to “justify” their intention…
If you mean they are being dishonest, then I disagree. Disingenuous, perhaps, depending on whether they know how cruel repercussion works. Just as I have argued that if sword aa + io is an issue, then io should be adjusted rather than sword aa, if CoR + cruel repercussion is an issue, then it is the trait that needs to be changed first. After that, an adjustment to CoR can be made if necessary. Otherwise, you are potentially nerfing builds that don’t use the trait without cause.
Most people would definitely like the sustain with their current raid experience imo. Love the food, thanks for the info sir!
Agreed on all counts. Think I will be doing some harvesting in VB today…
I think a lot of groups gave up and this is now only done by guilds. This isn’t necessarily because there’s anything wrong with the meta (some minor adjustments could be made) but more because a large amount of what it takes to be successful is for players to listen and follow directions. Unfortunately this is just something that isn’t happening.
There are other reasons, though, like ley-line Sparks.
Is there actually good loot out of this?
No. There’s a big chest at the end which could potentially give you something good, but most of the crystallized caches are already accessible.
Tangled Depths does not award enough Crystals

If you want crystals, do the events leading up to the meta.
And this is assuming, of course, that you can find a map that’s actually doing the events leading up to the meta in the first place. This is often far more easily said than done from my experience.
And as I said in that post, most of the events can be done solo. I know at least one in the SCAR lane that seemed impossible solo, but most can be done.

If you want crystals, do the events leading up to the meta. You get a decent amount for doing the events and from Nuhoch hunting bags, then another 50-75ish (don’t recall the exact numbers) even if the meta fails. Most of the events can be done solo or with a very small number of players.
I do agree that the complete event cycle for this zone is much too long.
well quartz crystals ain’t hard to get, the thing is that you need 25 of those to make a charged quart crystal that you can do 1/day.
If you hit every possible node, you get 22 minimum per day. If necessary, you can always grab a few extra off the broker. Make getting a charged crystal part of your daily routine and you will have it done before you know it.
The trickiest part is getting into a T4+ Dry Top during sandstorm to get to the rich node. There aren’t a ton of people doing dry top right now, so that can sometimes take a few tries.
The home instance node is a great purchase (Gift of Quartz, 25 laurels and 15 gold; the only node that is really worth it, IMO) if you don’t know someone that has one.
If anyone needs help finding these, I’d be happy to show you where they are.
As above. If they sped up the animations, they’d have to reduce damage dramatically. I like them as they are now, because the animations have a lot of “weight” to them, meaning the attacks feel like they hit hard. The autoattack is slow, but makes up for it in a variety of ways.
Against Vale Guardian, if your tank is stacking by the red pillar for Stage 1 (which is a great spot btw) DO NOT use Sword 3. We had one of our pug Revs throw himself out of the ring twice from doing this. This will instant kill the Rev.
Hopefully heading there tonight. Thanks for the tip.
