100blades has absolutely zero to do with this skill. Your “point” has no point. You might as well complain about fire overload instead.

Yeah right, both classes are in the same game you know.. Both need to be balanced and hammer 2 was not balanced (its dmg still not but thats the trait).. But good trying to defend it lol! You guys lost reality in this game just like Anet when they made tthe elites. I do laugh when i see pve players cry about the nerf lol haha. Nownlets wait what january will bring :-p

I didn’t say CoR was balanced, nor am I defending it any more than your broken logic. It needed a fix, possibly several, but this was not the proper fix.

The first fix that was needed was to redesign Cruel Repercussion to prevent the massive damage spikes CoR is putting out. While the change to a 5 target max will prevent those in some instances, it will do nothing to address the problem in others. There are still going to be 20k hits after this change, just not on the back line of WvW blobs.

If you want to have an actual discussion, rather than this “nerf lol” nonsense, I’d welcome it.

^^^^ I agree with this comment about CoR as well. I think the trait is the problem here and this fix will unnecessarily nerf the skill in PvE.
We already have to deal with uneven terrains stopping the skill after 1st/2nd hit. I don’t think another tweak to make it stop after hitting 5 targets is a good choice, especially for PvE.

Just to be clear, I’m not saying that is all that needs to be done. We all know CoR is very strong and could probably use a tweak. But as you said, this change is not fun for PvE and isn’t going to stop the ludicrous crits.

Pls do me a favor and send a screenshot of that 17-20k dmg, okay? Seems a bit exaggerated.

Here you go:
(see image below)

See how the second hit is MUCH bigger than the first, even though both are crits? This is because of the cruel repercussion trait, which is a big part of the problem. It is worth noting that the trait is on a 15 second cooldown, but even so, the design of the trait is simply bad for the game. I’m not saying additional changes won’t be needed, but the change they have made does not address the biggest part of the problem.

This is the wrong fix for Coalesence of Ruin. The Cruel Repercussion trait needs a complete rework. The 50% damage increase is a huge part of the problem, because it creates very large damage spikes (which many mistake for being stock CoR damage). This change only addresses that in the instance where there are large numbers of targets (and some are not at max range). This has been discussed repeatedly in the Revenant forums. Reducing the number of targets to 5 might will prevent the huge damage spikes in some situations, but not all, and while it may be a fine change for WvW, it decreases the ability to tag large numbers of enemies in PvE unnecessarily.

Kind of bummed about the Radiant Revival change, but can understand why it was made and think it is still useful.

If you can’t close the gap, best thing you can do is try to sidestep. It does do a lot of damage, but with a little diligence, I bet you can avoid it most of the time. Maybe you shouldn’t have to, but until such time as it changes, staying out of it is your best bet. Remember that it has a long windup and goes in a straight line. At long range, you can probably strafe out of the area of effect without even needing to dodge.

That hit looks like a proc from cruel repercussion, a trait that boosts damage by 50% on a 15s cooldown following a blocked attack. The trait needs to be scrapped or majorly reworked. Once that is done, hammer 2 should be reevaluated.

To devs: Suggestions for balancing revs

in Revenant

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

With all due respect, I don’t think you understand balance very well. For instance, shield 5 will never get the ability to move, let alone remove conditions, without severely reducing or perhaps removing the heal. You have asked for 4 skills and some traits to get condition removal. Condition removal is the professions weakness by design and those things simply are not going to happen. These aren’t a matter of opinion, but what Roy Cronacher said during Rev beta (no, he didn’t specifically say x skill will never get condition cleanse, but it was quite clear that was unlikely, and I’m quite comfortable saying the scenario you have suggested is not going to occur.

Revenant is already very strong. Aside from Mallyx (apologies if I missed something else), everything you suggested is a straight buff. That isn’t how balance works.

On the subject of the shield block, you neglect to mention that none of those other skills provide healing. The Revenant block also has a lower cooldown than engineer or Mesmer. It is already balanced. The duration is not going to get increased. They already increased the cooldown of this skill (and the trait) and reduced the duration of Glint’s heal to get overall block uptime in check.

Personally I think there’s value in survivability stats, unless you can guarantee that you’ll be up 100% of the time (you can’t); but it’s difficult to quantify so that value ends up being ignored by the mainstream.

The longer people perpetuate the nonsense, the worse it gets. You can not make a rational argument that exotic berserker is fine but ascended marauder isn’t. Admittedly, I wouldn’t suggest anything other than ascended berserker for trying to get into pugs.

Yeah, armor is Berzerser for sure, the added defense from marauder isn’t needed, if needed, add a few of the zerk/valk asc trinkets, those will lower your precision a bit and rise Vit, since rev have the added bonus from fury, and it is common to have a spotter available in raids you’ll get your 90~100 crit chance easily and still have max available power and ferocity.

I run marauder with berserkyrie trinkets. I’ve prevented wipes on VG by being able to res in lit up areas. If people run in groups with players that never go down, then more power to them, but I expect that’s the exception rather than the rule. Obviously berserker is better in terms of pure offense, but marauder gives a good vitality boost while only giving up half that much in offensive stats.

Armor needs to be Berserker. Though, the DPS gain from all 6 pieces of your armor being ascended over exotic is barely 2%. If you got a set, great. If not, you’re not missing out.

Sword and Axe is definitely a must as the vast majority of your damage contribution comes from this weapon set. Keep in mind the way damage is calculated averages the weapons in both of your hands as a single weapon so you want to make sure you’re upgrading both weapons even though you’ll mostly be using Sword skills.

Runes: Scholars if you can maintain the 90% threshold for a good portion of the fight. Otherwise, Strength would be the next best set as as well as aiding your might stacking. Force and Air sigils if you’re trying to squeeze out as much damage as possible.

Given that ascended marauder gear has better power and precision than exotic berserker, with only slightly less ferocity, yet you also say you aren’t missing out if you don’t have ascended, saying that armor has to be berserker doesn’t really make much sense.

Sorry if I came off as feisty. Being told I’m a lousy player (not by you) because I choose to play the profession got my dander up.

Not at all! I was honestly just genuinely curious what you meant there, and now that you explained it a bit more it makes sense

That said, I feel Mesmer is pretty similar in that regard. Spamming wells can be rather straightforward, but I found that the more comfortable you are with the class, the more reactive you can be with your skills/shatters, as opposed to just following a rotation. Let’s me be reactive to the fight and that’s very rewarding for me.

Either way I’m glad you’re liking Rev. I really really want to like it, and I did at first, but I almost feel “forced” to play Herald because the boons are so good (and, frankly, perma-swiftness is amazing in open world). The problem there is that the “pop and let them sit there” style of facets bores me to tears haha

Agree on Herald. It’s an unfortunate side-effect of having been designed side-by-side with the base class, IMO. There are a number of the elites that many consider to be “must-haves” for better or worse. Herald and Chronomancer are probably at the top of that list.

I’ve said this in other threads, but for me Revenant is like a multi-tool. It has lots of neat toys to deal with a variety of things. I adore situational abilities and Rev is brimming with them. And while I get some people don’t like the emphasis on the AA, it is that kind of damage structure that allows shield to be a viable pick without gimping yourself offensively.

You know what else is boring? Spamming powers on cooldown. If that’s what people want, go play an engineer. Or an Ele. Or a Mesmer.

Care to explain this one? I play both Engineer and Mesmer, and they’re some of the most complex (read: NOT boring) classes in the game. “Spamming powers on cooldown” doesn’t make much sense to me, seeing how every class but thief rotates their skills based on cooldowns, including Rev.

You cut off the bit that was aimed more directly at engineer, referencing the long rotations. For me, complex doesn’t make a profession interesting. If complex makes it interesting for you, then that’s awesome (no sarcasm, I truly mean that).

But to answer your question, what I love most about Revenant is that while yes, there are cooldowns, getting solid dps isn’t strictly dependent on hitting every power when it comes off cd. To me, that’s a positive, not a negative, because I can afford to be more selective when I use a power to get the most out of it. That is what makes the class far more interesting to me than anything else I have played.

I don’t expect that everyone will love it as much as I do. There are different professions that suit different play styles and different players, just as there should be. If Revenant isn’t to the liking of a particular player, they should play something else, not try to change it in to something we already have.

Sorry if I came off as feisty. Being told I’m a lousy player (not by you) because I choose to play the profession got my dander up.

I love my Revenant. In fact, despite all the flaws and things that are broken, I’ve had more fun playing this profession than any other in an MMO that isn’t named City of Heroes. And I do a heck of a lot more than press 1 all day and long fights are never boring to me.

You know what’s boring? Pressing the same stupid sequence of keys over and over again. You know what else is boring? Spamming powers on cooldown. If that’s what people want, go play an engineer. Or an Ele. Or a Mesmer.

Pop Darkness, Might, then Elements in that order to take out most crowds of junk. If they’re still alive and you need breathing room, use the elite. While all those are on cooldown, swap to your other legend and burst those skills.

I wouldn’t use Darkness to start a fight, since it is a stun break. Burst of Strength is great when running solo against tougher opponents or groups, but not really needed in groups. As you said, I like to use it right before Elemental Blast.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Man, this is the time when Anet really should reflect players’ demands.

They dont do this out of spite, they do it because outfits are easier to design because they dont have as much clipping issues as mix and match armor skins.
If they release armor skins in game, its usually single skins and mostly gloves, helmets or shoulders and weapons.
Chest pieces and pants generate too much clipping issues.

Wanze, I thought they did it because players asked them not to sell armors in the gemstore? I’ve heard that repeatedly. Is it not true? And, assuming for the moment that it is, knowing that they are a company that exists to make money, anyone who thought we would then see more armor skins via in-game means was being naive.

Still working on VG, but the group I am in is very casual and we have some folks that are lacking in the gear department. I’m not going to shout from the rooftops that how I do things is the best way, but it isn’t the reason we are slow making progress either (though it wouldn’t surprise me for someone to say that).

What I can say for sure is that we have people getting downed too often which hurts our dps, but I have almost never been one of them (unless a wipe has been called). I am also able to go into a zone that is lit up during phase 2/3 to revive a downed player and I think that has some value. Not sure I could do that with berserker gear on.

If you are trying to switch to dire, you are probably doing something wrong. You sure you have an exotic inscription and not an insignia (or insignia if you are changing stats on armor)? You wouldn’t be the first to make that mistake.

I’ve been able to convert to viper’s, so at least some of the 4 stats work. I have not tried to convert from any of the 4 stat combinations, so I can’t comment on that.

The others work, it just isn’t clear whether Trailblazer is the one that is bugged. Wanze has suggested that perhaps the others are bugged because it is much cheaper to stat swap than to craft something that requires jeweled damask. That seems like a strange situation.
