Star of Gratitude Returning This Wintersday?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I doubt that they will make the star of gratitude available again but instead make another one available.

Otherwise, those that got already wont have anything to do.
I they introduce a new fragment eater, player who already got the star, can obtain a 2nd one and new players will also be able to get one.

Either way would be fine by me, but as a newer player, this would be welcome.

Percentages prior to the Nuhoch lane fix are pointless to analyze. It sucks that it took so long, but that’s the situation we have. I have no doubt you are right that many people gave up already or are frustrated, which is unfortunate.

I did the event twice yesterday. The first is the one I mentioned above, where one lane didn’t have enough dps. That map was well organized by players, not one big guild. I bet we could have saved it if the commander had communicated after the first burn that they needed more dps. The other was a completely disorganized map still trying to get people to the confluence and find commanders as the Gerents were emerging. I knew that map wasn’t going to beat the event, but they actually did better than I expected and made it past the first burn.

If you do it with pugs, it fails 9/10 or 95/100 or even 99/100. Get over it, people don’t want to try so hard to fail over and over again, then meta abandoned.

Don’t go with TTS, try with pugs every run and tell us how you feel.

I have completed this fight in a pug and if you had actually read what I wrote you would have seen I said a map organized to that degree isn’t remotely necessary. The Nuhoch lane was just fixed a couple of days ago. You had to be lucky to complete the event prior to that point. Now that the event is working properly, give it a chance. Maybe your bad attitude is making the event fail.

Crafting Woes: Cavalier's Inscription

The wiki says that you need to salvage exotic weapons for the inscription recipe. I did that with no success. And so I am looking for help and advice.

The inscription recipe is known to players and made and sold on the TP, so the recipe must be available. And yet I cannot seem to learn it.

No, the wiki does not say you need to salvage weapons for the recipe. Exotic cavalier inscription can not be crafted and there is no such recipe. You salvage for the inscription itself. You then use the salvaged exotic inscription to craft the ascended version.

The thread title is a blatant lie.

And, I know this will come to a shock to you, but believe it or not, not all of us get in a map with a mega guild created for fighting these things.

It isn’t a lie, and you don’t need a map organized by a mega-guild to do this fight. The only thing required to organize this fight is to have people who want to complete it, get them to the confluence ahead of time, and have 4 people that can run the lanes (even that may not be necessary eventually).

I think people would have this fight down completely by this point if it hadn’t been for the spore bug in Nuhoch lane, which is now fixed. People are still learning some of the best strategies, but that will all get nailed down soon. There are certain things that may not be immediately obvious (like getting back to spores early for Nuhoch lane.

My favorite tip, that I just learned yesterday: fight the Gerent under its belly. Orange circles will not hit you there. I’ve beaten the fight and never seen that done. As with the OP, the lane I was in killed the Gerent on the second burn phase (but not the same map as one lane didn’t have sufficient dps on the map I was on).

Which brings me to the real issue that is going to make completing this fight routinely a royal pain: dps. This isn’t Tequatl, where you can take until the three minute mark to get to the first defense phase and still win. SCAR lane needs strong dps, but the others also do to a certain degree.

My suggestion for this fight: rework Ogre lane so that breaking the Chak eggs places some kind of debuff on players. This debuff would have a damage effect on the player but also increase their damage significantly. The damage taken by players should be mitigated by toughness. Players in glass cannon gear should melt in this lane, making soldier/cleric/knight gear necessary, much like reflects are needed mid in Silverwastes. This would give a place for players wearing tankier gear to thrive during this fight.

Eldrin buddy… your ascended is still Bis Stat wise and if Stat swap is a problem for you…. you can craft every ascended set with every Stat and it solves your arguement. … that is if you are still ignoring your other options, like finding better guilds, pugging (yes it’s hard now but won’t be for long and is doable… I’ve pugged first 2 bosses 2 weeks in a row), or paying for a raid boss kill…..

Eldrin already has multiple ascended sets. It has already been explained that this is, in fact, superior to legendary (because of having multiple sets of runes). Eldrin has also been told by multiple people that there are guilds that don’t require people to speak on voice chat in order to raid. Those have been ignored.

L2p. Learn to evade. It is easy.

Not if it is done the right way (assuming it is truly needed once the cruel repercussion trait is changed). CoR is absolutely a vital skill in PvE. For damage, but also for tagging enemies. I adore this skill and have thought about this quite a bit. I believe it needs to remain on a low cooldown because of the way the skill is used in PvE. Increasing the energy cost could allow it to remain spammable but not infinitely so. The damage for the three hits could be adjusted to make the last one a bit more modest if necessary.

Huh? When will u possible want all activated at The same time? I guess OP is new to to game or just facesmash keyboard. And want to have a macro to use all keybind åt once.

First of all it’s stupid idea. NEVER use all your cds st once. Learn your rotations (pve) and be careful with important cds (pvp)

You might make an effort to understand the profession before telling other people how to play it. First off, activating the facets doesn’t trigger any cooldowns. Second, one of the popular skill rotations with Shiro/Glint is to activate all Glint facets to purposely run out of energy (thus deactivating all facets including Facet of Nature) before invoking Shiro).

I’m confused. F2p players get no login rewards, meaning no laurels (as you said). Purchasing the recipes to craft ascended gear requires laurels for each individual recipe. Given that ascended gear drops are exceedingly rare and getting even one in that span of time would be cause for tremendous celebration, how exactly did you acquire ascended gear?

I don’t mind it at all. Having goals to work toward is a good thing. And it isn’t as if profession X is worthless unless you have hard to acquire stat set Y. It’s a question of balance, and it may well be that certain things are more cumbersome than they need to be (leadership runes, perhaps), but working toward a goal and achieving it can be quite satisfying.

I’ve done this one solo and also in big groups. the key here isn’t just killing all the Chak, but keeping them away from the larvae by getting rid of the closest ones. I think there may be multiple spots the larvae like to go, but I usually pick one spot and focus on that. I’m not sure, but it may be that if you kill all of them it just makes them respawn faster.

The damage is not the problem, its the 2 second cooldown on the skill.

I disagree. It may be A problem, but it isn’t THE problem. Again, the ability can only do that kind of damage every 15 seconds, because of the trait.

I believe that the 50% damage component should simply be split up into multiple damage packets, say 5 of 10% each. Alternatively, the cooldown could be reduced and the bonus decreased accordingly. The trait would still be powerful, yet the crazy spikes would be eliminated. Then there could be a more sensible look at whether the core ability needs an adjustment, and if so, by how much.

The 17k hit is due to a trait called Cruel Repercussion. The trait is on a 15 second cooldown and adds 50% damage to an attack after an attack is blocked. The trait needs to be redesigned because it creates these silly damage spikes.

The base ability may or may not need an adjustment, but they really need to do something about the trait first.

How do I buy skills for the Herald?

I’m a long time player of the game. But this rev/herald setup is really confusing.

I’ve managed to buy the first skill, Infuse Light. But how to I buy the other skills? if I click the arrows over skill boxes 7,8,9,0 it only gives me the option to buy facet of darkness, facet of elements, and facet of strength. The build Im following doesnt use these.

It feels like there should be another bar in the skills section for Dragon Stance, so I can buy skills on that. I’ve got Dwarf, Demon, Centaur, and Assassin Training bars in the skills menu. So how do we buy skills for the Dragon stance?

I noticed on the build Brazil does, his specialisation picture is different than mine. He’s got a dragon face on his. On mine its shoulder armor piece.

So can anyone explain how we buy skills for the dragon stance?

If the build you are following does not use those facets, then it doesn’t have Glint equipped as one of the two legendaries (you can be a herald without equipping Glint). Perhaps if you linked the build.

Oh, I would absolutely agree that there is a rising sense of frustration and that the development team could do a much better job engaging with the community right now. For me, that isn’t the same as being ignored. But as I said yesterday, I think feeling ignored is an understandable response to the distinct lack of communication post-release compared to what we experienced prior to release. Players that feel like they are being ignored can and should express that, but should also understand that not everyone feels that way and should not speak for the community as a whole, since we aren’t all the same.

Legendary armor is not just cosmetic

How so? I appreciate your plight, but if doing the raid isn’t an option, why not simply take the massive amount of gold you have accumulated and buy multiple sets of ascended gear to suit whatever needs you have? And you could convert some of it to gems to purchase more bag space to carry it if need be. Carrying multiple gear sets could be viewed as an inconvenience, but it is actually the superior alternative since you can have different runes in each set (and as far as we have been told, legendary armor won’t provide the ability to swap runes freely without removing/destroying the runes.

One last question. Are you able to listen in teamspeak if you don’t have to talk? I’m quite certain you could find a guild that would allow you to type in chat instead of needing to talk over a microphone if that were something you were able to do.

For the five hundred and thirty-seventh time, it is NOT a 14k aoe on a 2-second cooldown. Not even remotely close. That kind of damage requires a trait activation on a 15-second cd, among other things. We can have a conversation about whether or not the ability is too strong, but not if people insist on taking edge case examples and pretending those occur every 2 seconds to satisfy some agenda.

I think the majority of posters just want to feel like they matter as customers and that the things that are important to them are also important to the Dev team, even if the players don’t always get exactly what they want.

Oh, I agree. And I’m not sure that Anet management (or whoever it is who makes the calls about communication) understands this, or cares if they do understand it.

I think they do, but I also believe they don’t always think in terms of player psychology. For instance, half the problem on the forums right now is that before the expansion came out we had much more open and direct lines of communication with the development team. This set the expectation among players (rightly or not is irrelevant, we are talking human nature here) that such dialog would continue. A number of people have expressed the opinion (which I don’t share, just to be clear) that the developers “took their money and ran” and I think this is precisely the result of what has been a dramatic decline in communication. There may be excellent reasons for this, but again they do not matter in the eyes of the players expressing these opinions.

Another example was the elite specialization debacle, which they have acknowledged they mishandled. If you read between the lines, you could see what was about to happen unfolding. Players talked for weeks about how they couldn’t wait to dive into the expansion with their elite specializations. Required numbers of points were datamined and no one took the opportunity in any of the (which I recall being plentiful) threads on the subject to say, “hey guys, I can’t give you the exact numbers, but it is going to be a significant investment of time and will require playing part of the expansion”. The biggest hint of the impending disaster came (I think) just a couple ofdays before the release of the expansion with a cryptic comment about how they couldn’t wait until we could explore the new areas and (roughly) “start unlocking” the elite specs.

There are plenty of other possible examples. Mind you, there is nothing unique about this. I’ve seen it in every mmo I have played, the Aion summer event from a few years back that resulted in all the cities being filled with characters jumping in place or running against walls being my favorite.

I think so many problems (e.g. Broken reward structures) could be avoided if more developers spent a bit more time thinking like players.

I’ve spent virtually all of my time in HoT as a Herald, which I adore.

Some will find this strange, but my favorite map is Tangled Depths. It can be rather perplexing at times, but I really like how each of the areas is like its own little mini zone. VB has so much going on I have barely scratched the surface of it. Tarir meta event is fun and rewarding.

I don’t care for the story all that much, to be honest. I find it kind of superficial, with a number of events that occur for no other reason than because certain things needed to happen. I also found very little in the way of skins etc that I have any remote interest in.

Hoping to make some progress in the raid tonight. I am very much interested in getting started on legendary armor. Hoping that fractal rewards will become more enticing as well.

Gotta say that she probably earned the break the minute she stepped into the forums, haha. Okay, maybe not all of us are that bad. =P

Probably. She was support team, I believe, prior to getting the forum communications title though, so it’s hard to say for sure what all responsibilities they put on her. Forum communications may be a sometimes role and her role may be shifting over time as well.

Office politics, changing priorities, and all that.

Yeah, there is a lot of negativity to take in. Can’t say I’d jump at the job. Would certainly be a unique kind of challenge though. Part of me would want to try that sort of job, just to see what kind of mood and presentation I could sow among forummers from that kind of position.
