Mystic Forge - interaction zone limited

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Misguided.5139

I think the problem is that the interaction zone is no longer in the same spot as the portal (maybe the Halloween version was in a slightly different location and they didn’t revert it). If you approach from the south there’s a spot where you can activate the portal without even being in the water.

Masteries... and pipe dreams

Misguided.5139

I think that in a perfect world, some of the adventures would have been themed around the mastery skills. So, for instance, when you completed that first bar in Maguuma, you would have unlocked an adventure that requires you to glide. You would then be given some training wings to use in that adventure and the adventure would teach you the basics of what you needed to know about that skill. By earning the equivalent of Bronze, you would get the wings permanently and unlock that adventure for repeat play.

I think something like that might have been a decent compromise allowing players to earn XP how they like but having to complete a thematically-related task to actually unlock the ability. This might not have worked perfectly for every rank, but it would have worked for a lot of them.

Crystal Hibernation

Misguided.5139

I do agree that Crystal Hybernation is quite annoying in PvP. Especially when you pop the glint heal right as you get thrown into CH. imo.

I’ve done that to myself a number of times in PvE. But I feel like that is a l2p issue on my part. I need to anticipate that and either heal earlier, or wait for the trait to activate and be prepared to heal after.

But yeah, I get where it would not be good in pvp/WvW, but I’d rather not screw up why is a good PvE trait. I’d think most WvW folks would be using bulwark anyway.

Could this skill be adjusted so that it doesn’t root, or at least change Soothing Bastion trait so that it does something else?

Unwilling root is not good.

Then don’t choose the trait. It’s a very good trait, IMO, and I wouldn’t want it changed.

Leveling as Herald --> epileptic attacks

I suggest keeping the herald spec so you can use the shield and not using the dragon stance until you have all the skills available. I was kind of lucky that I didn’t try to switch from Shiro to dragon stance until I had facet of elements. That happened right before the switch to 250 points, so I didn’t have to deal with it for very long, but yeah, it was not pleasant.

Revenant vs. Elementalist in PvE only

Misguided.5139

Can’t comment on Ele vs rev, but if you like to explore, I suspect you would find the expansion worth it, provided the higher challenge level doesn’t bother you. Heck, there are veterans out there that feel like an accomplishment to beat at times. At any rate, the maps are wildly convoluted, with lots of hidden places and such, and you have to pay a lot more attention to what you are fighting. Some people don’t like that, but from what you said, I suspect you would enjoy it.

Issues with the Tangled Depths meta event

Misguided.5139

The thing I find strange about Tangled Depths (maybe I’m missing something, please enlighten me) is that there are simply gobs of empty time. Why is the event cycle two hours long? It seems like all the prep events can be done in what, 30-45 minutes? Then you are left waiting around for ages doing an event here or there for next phase to begin. Am I missing something?

I genuinely want to understand this map better because I need ley-line sparks.

Underwater Utility Skills?

Yeah, it’s a significant issue. Herald Facets will remain on underwater, so I turn on swiftness, fury, and regen then go do what I have to do. If I know I am going to be doing any major fighting underwater, I drop Shiro in my other slot so at least I have something to switch to.

AoE Options

I use sword/shield to focus on a single enemy (or small groups at times) and hammer for multiple. Herald’s Elemental Blast is also nice for crowds or for CC on single targets. Jalis’ Vengeful Hammers works nicely when focusing a single target in the middle of a crowd.

As our only ranged option (and great fun) I find hammer indispensable.

Misguided.5139

I find the constant swap with glint/shiro not activating facets annoying. Don’t think that is what the devs had in mine when creating the active abilities of the facets, but as it is there is no point to use them. I would rather swap legends to adapt to the situation, not for energy min/maxing dps.

Several of the legends are suited to camping. I use Glint and Jalis, but spend most of the time in Glint. figure out what legend you like best, then choose what complements it. What situations will force you out of the first and what will help in those situations? Will you do less dps? Yes. Can you still do good dps? Yes. Will you have more fun this way? By the sound of it, yes.

Yeah, as I have said on a number of occasions, Revenant didn’t feel complete in BWE1, because there was no Herald. If adding utilities can help address that, then it is absolutely something that should be strongly considered.

I don’t either. But the point I think you might be missing is that anyone that does run…Shiro…will have access to hammer. They just put a cooldown on Phase Traversal because…Shiro…had too much mobility. The change you are suggesting would effectively reverse that adjustment, so it isn’t going to happen. Like it or not, the weapons have to be balanced around all legends, including…Shiro.

Sorry, just couldn’t help myself.

Jalis review

Misguided.5139

But yeah, Glint heal (who is not designed to tank) is more rewarding than Jalis heal.

I use both and love having both for different reasons. Jalis is a bacon-saver if you get a bunch of conditions dumped on you or if Glint heal is on cooldown or you time a Glint heal poorly. Comparing the two directly and saying Glint has higher healing potential does not make the Jalis heal bad. Of course Glint heal is more rewarding. It should be, because it requires timing to use properly. Btw, Burtnik was suggesting Soothing Stone block AND heal (which is simply not going to happen because we have too many blocks/evades/invuln skills as it is—which is why three block skills were changed, the change to Glint heal had zero to do with healing potential and everything to do with uptime on these skills).

Rev has so many active defenses that my full zerker rev is more survivable than my half valk guard.

Rev is one of the best, and easiest, classes to go full zerk on – even in HoT maps.

My 2 cents.

Agreed, but keep in mind one reason your first statement is true is that Guardian base health is ludicrously low. I’ve never understood why that is. All the active defenses are great, but now we have Revenant with the big health pool and lots of active defenses.

Burtnik, you mean Soothing Stone, not Soothing Bastion.

IR would be ok if stability began to pulse immediately and pulse duration was bumped to 2 seconds.

Like the FE suggestion a lot.

Rite as an upkeep skill would be fantastic. While I’m glad you realize that means making Hammers non-upkeep, not entirely sold on your version of a reworked hammers. I’d suggest a block if we didn’t have so many blocks/evades already. How about this, which I have suggested before: make the hammers apply weakness in an area (move it from IR, it never made a ton of sense there and will make even less if the animation is taken away).

I really feel RotgD should be an upkeep skill thus reducing the initial energy cost making available in emergencies (then you could use it as an emergency/stunbreak then cancel it, putting it on cooldown) , making it the opposite of impossible odds.

Forced engagement NEEDS something else. Like a stun or a daze if the target manages to hit you WHILE taunted by this skill. As it is, as said above, its a minor annoyance in spvp at best. This condition would make it rewarding to be in close quarters and using this skill on an enemy.

They seem determined to limit the stances to one upkeep, outside Glint. I had suggested a pull for FE, but haven’t gotten much response.

Misguided.5139

I agree with most of this, though if RotGD gets a significant cast time decrease then it will be much more useful in an emergency, in which case it would no longer need a duration increase IMO.
I don’t agree with decreasing the cast time on Jalis’ heal though – most other heals have a cast time around 1 second, and I don’t see why Jalis’ should be much better.

Agreed on Rite. I don’t think we will get both and the cast time reduction is more important.

Jalis heal feels like it takes forever, but if I had to chose between shortening it or Rite, I’d go with Rite. Keep in mind, though, that our heal skills are reduced in effect because we get two, making that one second on the long side for what it does.

As of right now, this isn’t technically a bug. The hammers are projectiles. They will be destroyed by walls, rocks, empty space beside bridges/ledges, etc. haven’t checked today, but in previous patches, invulnerable enemies would also destroy them without disabling the ability, which does seem like a bug.

Heal skills underwhelming

in Revenant

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

i think glint’s needs to be toned down just a little. revenants can quickly use 2 heals in succession (1 for each legend), and i feel that is the reason why their healing skills are a little underwhelming

They already did reduce it. Furthermore, the only reason I can imagine anyone wanting it reduced is in pvp, which makes this a learn to play issue. The base heal of the skill is quite low and depends on people attacking while it is up. Having said that, most revenants are in favor of a more obvious signal when it is active.

Is Berzerker only gear choice?

in Revenant

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

Solid advice from Verenhimo and Namica above. To me it’s a balancing act. If you want to go with full/mostly berserker (I actually use berserk+Valkyrie trinkets and have more defensive stats on my shield…currently Wanderer iirc) you can absolutely do that, especially if you make a defensive pick somewhere else (like using shield). In addition to the shield, I have Jalis as my second legendary. I also don’t use a max dps rotation (see Obal’s thread) and remain in Glint much of the time.

If you play Shiro/Glint, and want to swap legends constantly, you may be perfectly fine or find you want to swap in a piece or two of tankier gear. You really have to try it and see how it works for you.

Regen and fury stack duration, so it isn’t preventing anything.

I happen to like staying in Glint most of the time, but with the boon duration, you don’t have to do that if you don’t want (see Obal’s thread for an example).

Not a chance in heck they are going to increase the length of the boons.

The main issue with Jalis stance isn’t that it is weak (aside from IR), it is the clunkiness factor.

Hammers have an upkeep cost of 7. 5 is the initial cost. The only problem with this skill is the projectile nonsense.

Inspiring reinforcement used to pulse six seconds, but was reduced to one. I’d like to see it bumped back to two, with the initial pulse on cast.

Rite would be fine if it were instant cast, which it should be since it is a stun break. While we are at it, reduce the cast time of Soothing Stone a bit.

You talk about clunkiness but you actually like inspiring reinforcement like this? I mean it’s sure that it need more stability pulse, but don’t you find it’s really clunky that you must stay on the road for having this stability? In pvp you don’t stay on a point like a free target, never.

My preference would be to have one burst of stability at the beginning, but I don’t believe they will make that change. I try to make suggestions I think could legitimately happen.

Per Roy:

The problem is that they are balanced around having 1 skill bar and not 2 for the right half of your bar. They are also not made with energy in mind and would need to be changed to work with revenant, but would muddy the purity of each legends skill set playstyle. I thought I had mentioned it before on one of the initial streams, but racial skills won’t be usable on revenant.

As another poster said, you do yourself no favors defending such design. There is literally no reason they couldn’t have had 4 utilities per Legend and a set of 4 neutral utilities.

The only explanation is lack of development time. Also – the proof is in the silence on the subject. This issue has been brought up several times before and all you’ll see is a select few Rev players blinded by the new profession hype disagreeing. Roy has outright refused to address the concern and it’s really saddening.

For the record, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone defend the design from the standpoint that not having choice is somehow better. I don’t happen to think it is necessary is all—certainly not on the level of needing weapon swap, which many of us fought for. I think people get too caught up in what it can’t do instead of what it can. I also don’t appreciate the implication that because someone doesn’t share your opinion, that they are blinded.
