It’s not much of a choice really if you want to do both. HoT will be here literally forever, but this year’s Halloween event will only last two weeks.

Play Mad King Says and everything else to your heart’s content first, I say.

And I completely agree with you. I’d just love to be able to use the elite specs for the Halloween content.

I would like everyone to realise that on swapping to jalis and every 10s later you can get 5s of 82%(plus whatever toughness adds) or more damage reduction. Which with regeneration is essentially a free defy pain every 10s.

If you just came from malyx you potentially have close to a 100% immunity to everything on the first swap. If not you still are immune to physical damage 50% of the time.

As far as I can tell only the road and the taunt need changing.

Where is the 82% figure from? I don’t think you are counting one with nature, since that plus Rite would only be 66% and F2 is on a 25 second cooldown.

If you cast Rite immediately, you would have no energy for hammers (IIRC the cost on Rite is 50, not 40 as the wiki states, so you would have to wait a bit before doing that. Even so, rite plus hammers is only 60% total (and far less vs conditions)

Soothing stone is a 30 second cooldown and the trained protection is only 2 seconds.

What are you referring to?

Inspiring Reinforcement- Make it break stun and give stability immediately on use. While on road pulse retaliation. Keep the cooldown.

Forced engagement just needs projectile speed.

Vengeful hammers This ability is by far the best ability jalis has. The only downside is that it gets destroyed by walls/uneven ground. (to the point I would call it a bug but apparently its supposed to do that…..)

Rite of The great dwarf – Remove stunbreak (give to inspiring reinforcement). The case time feels fine, but I think the duration needs to be bumped up to 7-8 seconds instead of 5. (and no it wouldn’t be op because it’s not a group invul, its just a over-glorified group protection)

That is a very fine change list. If Roy had posted that I wouldn’t have a thing to quibble about.

I agree with most of what Sarif said. I have come to terms with the a fact that Forced Engagement probably isn’t going to get any other changes because of PvP balance. I still think the cost is high and it is very situational, but I can live with it.

The skill that I think needs the most help is inspiring reinforcement, which has been discussed at length by myself and others. The heal is fine and the elite is ok, though I still seems in a very strange spot as a stun break with a long cast time. Some have argued it should be longer, but I’d rather just ditch the cast time.

Disincentivizing Dungeons

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

The thing is, the majority of players will go where the incentives are best, meaning they could have accomplished the same thing simply by providing better rewards for fractals and raids, but they chose not to.

The question is why? The logical answer that comes to mind is that they feel dungeons are too profitable for people that stealth past most of the content. The problem with that (if, in fact, it is the reason) is that the change punishes those players that want to tackle it more legitimately.

ty for this post. a couple of questions did you feel the lack of burst from legends taking up the slot that some other classes have their burst skill in? or did something else cause this? also you mention it teleporting, what skill(s) did this for you? i didn’t get alot of play time that i found useful in beta to see them in extended combat situations
as the beta map was basically a super mario brothers level that required mastery use to activate the mushroom trampolines. i felt trapped in a badly made jump puzzle that had the jump function turned off.

what kind of level of damage numbers were you seeing?

Revenant isn’t REALLY a bursty class by nature (though some would argue that Sword 3 is bursty, that’s only true in 1v1) because, with the exception of Shiro’s quickness, the utilities don’t provide tons of burst damage. This is why the auto-attacks tend to be strong. While some don’t care for this, I quite like it, because it allows you to make a defensive pick like off-hand shield or a more support-type legend without feeling like it completely ruins dps.

But that update did alot of balancing, before that, blue/green gear was basically worthless. But ascended crafting raised the value of alot of common mats, raising the salvage value for those and essences of luck added an account bound value to it.

Ah…I get it. I only started playing a few months ago, so to me, requiring low tier mats for damask/deldrimor, etc. seemed a little peculiar, but now it makes sense.

Well, I had quite the stroke of luck today. I’ve been saving up ascended mats and planning to make my first ascended weapons, meaning I need to somehow finish training weaponsmithing while simultaneously finishing my first legendary and getting my guild bank made before the expansion. I’d been debating whether I should try and make a sword first, to go with Flameseeker Prophecies or make a hammer first.

Went to do my daily Teq run at reset today, which was pretty fun. There were three of us covering N hills and boat, so we had our hands full. Got through the fight and got my first non-ring ascended drop, a weapon chest.

Did you only try it during the first beta? It was significantly worse then because they hadn’t implemented weapon swapping yet.

I understand where you are coming from, and it may never be your class of choice, but I encourage you to give it another try. The legends are like stances you get to switch between. No, you don’t get to customize the legends, but you do get to choose two and also two sets of weapons. The interactions between some of the weapons and legends are pretty cool and not at all what you might think of at first. For instance, Shiro is thought of as an offensive stance, but you can combine it with staff to provide some burst healing.

Revenant is a pocketknife with all kinds of cool gadgets it can use for different situations. If you can let go of what it isn’t or what it can’t do and focus instead on what it can, you might find it is a lot more fun than you first thought.

Guild Bank security when HoT launches?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

So if I’m reading this thread right, a new ‘personal’ guild would have a bank storage limit of 50 slots instead of the 250 current maximum,

There’s no reason to think that, no, but it will be more work than it currently is. Nothing to stop you from getting help to clear out a guild hall. The amount of favor required might be prohibitive, though.

From what you are saying, it seems that those won’t be accessible through the Guild Initiative HQ.

I don’t think that’s the case, because it would lock guilds without a guild hall from their own bank. What it does mean is that if you do not already have the second or third storage tiers, you will not be able to make them without having a guild hall first.

Nothing wrong with camping Glint, IMO. It’s what I plan to do. I see no reason why you can’t stay there most of time and switch to Ventari when you need missile destruction or some extra healing.

You don’t have to swap constantly to be efficient as a Rev, IMO, unless you are using Shiro.

Gear scaling for raids?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

I continue to find fault with the basic premise, despite the source, that full ascended gear will be needed. Ascended trinkets are easy to get, even for new players with a little effort. The difference between exotic and ascended armor is quite tiny. I simply don’t believe that the raids can be so finely tuned that such a minute difference will have an impact, because it would mean there is almost zero margin for error. The one spot ascended vs exotic might come close to making a small difference is with the weapons and crafting a few weapons is far less arduous than making a set of armor. Hence, as a newer player wanting to raid, my focus is on making ascended weapons.

I defeated a reasonably good reaper with a glint/mallyx build by spamming myself with resistance. Reaper will definitely be a great counter to most power builds but it’s not going to be a one-size-fits-all kind of counter.

If you look back at what prompted the response that you quoted, it was never expected to be. I had referred specifically to Shiro/Glint, which is what I think most of the “nerf rev” crowd is complaining about. I would expect a Mallyx rev to deal with a necro/reaper MUCH more effectively than Shiro/Glint.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

I realize the quartz and other once-daily charges keep the materials market stable, but the part of daily crafting I end up getting a little, wee bit, salty about is having to do it at a ‘place of power’ instead of at a crafting station.

I get that it’s thematic, but it’s annoying to have to drag them around (can’t use Deposit All or they disappear). Sure, there’s a home instance, but the home instance doesn’t have a bank for me to pull them from. So, I end up waiting until have 525, then charge.

If you forget them, just step into the pvp lobby, grab them from your bank, and exit the lobby (the way you entered, not via the portal), which sends you back to the same place.

A decent condition necromancer should melt Glint/Shiro Revenant. They have very little ability to deal with conditions.

I admit i don’t understand this. I don’t feel particulary squishy to condition with a revenant. No more than a mesmer or engineer. Particulary if you use lyssa runes. The only problem is burning coz it’s pretty op but that’s for all classes.
With glint heal, evades, shield you already have toon of sustain and ways to evade conditions. It’s really a false weakness for me.

It is harder for a revenant to deal with conditions than it is to deal with direct dmg (because of the damage reduction modifiers and the protection combined with the free toughness from hardening persistence). But because the herald was so strong this weekend, you were usually even able to defeat condition builds without even needing a single condition cleanse, as condition builds have no way to prevent the glint heal from doing work.

Did you not fight any Reapers who knew what they were doing the entire weekend? (Seriously, I’m not being facetious). I would expect chill to be a huge problem in and of itself. Let’s not forget the have plenty of access to poison to reduce healing.

Going to use an elite to convert conditions to boons to get rid of the chill? Expect to hear the Necromancer cackling with glee as you play right into their hands. Same goes for shield 5, as I would expect soul marks to become more prevalent.

I really think a well-played necro is going to be a nightmare for glint/Shiro, which would be a good thing (to have something that hard counters the build many people are saying is op).

Revenant DPS "rotation"

in Revenant

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

Yes, using the axe sounds like a good idea for more DPS (haven’t tested it though) at least in dungeons/fractals. However in the raid he used the sword off hand just as an additional CC against the boss and I don’t know if you can do without it.

@Misguided, I can see your point, but don’t you think its so much wasted potential of all other weapon skills and weapon sets if the most effective thing is spamming sword AA? Isn’t it going to get boring? And what are you going to use that extra energy for? IO uptime on Shiro and passives on Glint is the only thing you can do anyway.

First off, not everyone uses Shiro &/or Glint. My point isn’t that you won’t ever use other abilities, but that you can choose when to use them for maximum effect instead of always on cooldown because you HAVE to sustain decent DPS.

Makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t actually realized that.

Let’s get that done.

Revenant DPS "rotation"

in Revenant

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

For personal dps this rotation sounds good. But that’s if you are by yourself, sometimes keeping allies alive/bufffed gives more damage overall then you dealing that extra 5-10% personally.

Shiro has 0 ally support.
I think revenant is in that weird place where most of its damage comes from auto attacks, and using other abilities feels like an actual dps loss

It’s not weird, it’s a beautiful thing that allows us to manage energy usage without sacrificing a ton of DPS. I’m sure there are builds that will spam abilities and legend swap constantly, but several of the legends are well-suited to camping, and the fact that so much dps comes from AAs allows that to work while remaining effective. This is why I have said that the people who complain about energy costs on weapon skills are caught up treating this profession like every other.

Rite of the dwarf has to become upkeep ability. Amen.

I initially thought that this might be a solution but the upkeep cost of skill 9 plus the elite would be so large it would nerf Jalis further. They could make it an upkeep if they adjusted both skill’s costs but that’s a tricky thing to do without over powering skill 9.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen, both for the reasons you gave and I think they want non-Glint legends to have a single upkeep skill. Increasing the duration of Rite by a smidge would be nice, though

Revenant might even be Death Knight at WotLK launch broken tier. When you see two rogues and a priest fail to bring someone down you know they’re OP.

It isn’t going to be that way once people figure out how to fight them. Keep in mind that once you learn what the legends are, you will know exactly what skills they have. Also, the most popular build is going to be Shiro/glint, which has virtually no way to deal with conditions. Finally, the skill people are complaining about the most in pvp falls off dramatically when facing multiple opponents. Don’t 1v1 a sword Revenant and they won’t be nearly so scary.

Revenant doesn’t strictly have an unblockable effect,

You forgot malicious reprisal in Devastation (unless this is getting changed and I forgot), which makes attacks unblockable for 5s after getting blocked (30s cooldown)

And the shadowstep skill in Shiro stance that makes your attacks unblockable after using it for few seconds.

Thanks, I knew I was forgetting something!
