As others have said it’s not the same and nor should it be.
Thief short bow can hit a hard armored target (1.9k+ toughness = 3k+ armor) for 1.5k per shot (4.5k if you count ricochets)
If ranger short bow could do anywhere near this they would much rather have trick shot as their #1 rather than crossfire.
If the thief is pure glass cannon, then yes it can crit for 1.5K.
They can, you just have to look at it differently.
A ranger can get 2 – 3 shots off in a sec vs a thief 1 shot per sec. Each ranger’s SB auto can crit for 1K in a Glass Cannon build. Thats 2-3K damage single target with a chance to bleed if hitting from the side/back at 1200 range.
Trick shot should do more damage since it is 900 range.
They increased the arrow travel time on the ranger and the warrior in the December patch. They didn’t buff the thief’s SB; not sure why.
Because weapon per weapon thief SB is a lot better. Ranger SB kinda a auto attack and that is all. Rnager SB also has zero AoE not counting crappy poison arrows.
I’m expecting nerfs next patch. Our only good aoe attack: lb number 5 will likely be ruined in the aoe update.
If Devs actually change AoE that they said they had problem with this probably will not get changed. They stated that main issue was area control and fact people are using AoE in place of single target cause AoE are more powerful. Fact that Barrage is only such a long long cool down it should not be changed. Now Traps…

Not to be negative nancy but they don’t even have people doing actual simple bug fixes(like fixing a text field in tooltips) so I highly doubt we will see many changes like this.
The fact that this continues to go unnoticed by everyone really causes me a lot of cynicism about things in general.
Reason so much in this game goes unnoticed was fact Anet is a brilliant software MMo company.
Unlike other companies who display numbers and log them to a file you can access Anet has made a convoluted system. Even if you say recorded a video and play it back later it is way too much work and can be riddle with errors to figure out exact timings of things because Anet does not know how to make a timestamp using seconds.
So much is hidden in this game to prevent players from asking to many questions. Case in point no /who to see pop numbers or place in WvW Que.
LB feels off mostly because it misses moving targets past 900 range. LB should be a sniper weapon, with a slow fire rate but hitting reliably for more. LB projectile speed needs another 30% increase, and then we might be getting somewhere. it’s the worst weapon in the game.
I think they designed away from that because one of the tactics in GW1 was a party of longbow rangers. One would call a target and all of them would shoot at it simultaneously. It was enough to instantly drop most opponents.
They don’t want high burst damage on ranged attacks. Against melee-range burst, everyone can choose to retaliate or run away. But against ranged burst, the classes with no or poor ranged don’t stand a chance. So they want players to be able to avoid ranged damage more easily.
A group of Rifle warriors attacking a single target kinda blow holes in your theory. And only class with poor ranged is the Guardian but it still has some ranged.

No excuse needed really. I don’t think anyone has ever argued that you have a lot more numbers than other two servers have combined. Can you link a post that ever disputed this cause it must of got deleted or I skipped over them.
I’d like to bring your attention to a quick couple of points:
* Tiers 3, 5, and 8 are currently so lopsided in total points that the winning server has more points that both the other servers put together.
* Tiers 2 and 7 are being soundly trashed by their current leader to the point of no hope for a change-up any time soon.Current potential points aside 5 out of 8 of the current tiers are NOT good match-ups. If the points reset expedites a solution to these issues. I’m all for it.
Do you even play WvW? If you’d actually play, you’d know that the goal is to have a fight, to be able to achieve something, to put up a fight. Those tiers give the servers the ability to put up a fight. It’s a FUN tier. Most WvWers agree. You probably just look at the points without even going in-game to play.
So… Let me get this straight… You think that 3 out of 8 tiers getting completely destroyed to the point that the winning server has more points that both the other servers put together is a “good fight”, and that 2 of the remaining 5 tiers getting beaten to the point of being very close to the aforementioned 3 tiers is also a “good fight”? I’m confused now…

This here is that sure this weeks sucks, but take DB/Mag/Kain match up for instance. Kain due to getting a very large number of transfers a few weeks back has shoot up the ranks. Ok fine we fight them this week and then next week go back to a more even match up. But nope because Due to score reset and fact Kain has population of T1 server DB is going to get pushed down to T7 and Tier that our population will utterly wipe floor with as it stands now. So basically next week is screwed cause DB will be dominating T7 and then following week will probably jump to T2 or 3 because of makign so many points in Tier 7. And repeat for 4 or more weeks till it evens out.
I for one am sick of waiting months to get good matches.
Problem with reset is that they did it when they also introduced either Que bugs or they reduced the number of people that can get in a BG. So while server A has 3x people in a BG as server B. Server B is still getting a Que to enter thus screwing the score.
There’s an easy fix to this issue. Cough up some gems and go back to your original server.
This has nothing to do with population of servers. DB has a Que running and only 10-15 people in a BG with Que. It is a bug in their Que system. And people like you parroting same thing over and over just gives Anet false sense that issue is not urgent.
On Dragonbrand just now we had a que in DB borderlands and yet Kain owned 80% of map. No I know that Kain is not so uber that they can take and hold most map with even numbers as Dragonbrand. Infact when Que let me in 45mins later people in chat have said they have only been like 10-15 in the BG, So I left DB bg and tried get back in another Que. Something is severely wrong with que system
The range on their effects is ~1000 (you get the buff from further than the axe’s 900 range, but shorter than Swoop’s 1100 range). So it’s pretty easy to put them in places where they won’t attract the attention of mobs.
The problem is they get wiped out by AOEs (like our pets). And there’s no way to cast a new one until 60 seconds is up. The “spirits follow you” trait just makes things worse because of the AOE thing. They need to make it (or change the trait) so the spirit dies and the skill instantly refreshes if you walk more than about 1500 or 2000 from the spirit.
Actually what should do is make them invul hell they are not even as useful as banners.

Anyone trying out the warrior class should really try out things beside glass cannon GS, there is more fun, flavour and/or use to this class then that.
This is so true. Warrior in pwr/tuff/vit gear still can put out good dmg while being hard to kill. And CC hell out of people.

Weeks of rising through the ranks.? It’s only been 2 weeks since most of the biggest guilds including yours transferred from Crystal Desert over to Kaening, and the last match up with Kaening vs CD vd YB was sort of a joke. You shouldn’t pretend you worked so hard to fight for your server when you barely transferred there less then 2 weeks ago after your loss to Fort Aspenwood.

Fair is not in WvW dictionary. You have to fight for camps, you have to fight for towers, you have to fight for keeps, you have to fight for castle and you also have to fight for JPs if you desire it. And those who desire badges for legendary only and don’t care about pvp, legendary is for people who have done all aspects of the game not only pve.
To be honest, this kind of tread made me sad. Why PVEer want everything as a right when they are even enjoying the server bonuses freely that your home WvWer fight hard for?
Because they’ve never had to learn their class in the other side of the game that involves killing people so they expect everything to drop like mobs, or so I’ve noticed. Normally the same people that complain about thieves and mesmers after spending their first hour or so in PvP.

So True and also for fact that WvWers are ones who spend dam money keeping the um Keep(no pun intended) safe. If we lose keep the JP is gone for us.
Small group getting badges = playing pvp. If you have no interest in pvp and you’re a solo pve player – thats what the puzzle was originally added for. A way for pve folk to get badges without playing the part of the game they despise. Much like the pvp guys despise pve and as anet said – you can do/get everything in wvw that you can in pve so you can play the way you want!. If you despise pve and HAVE to do it? you hate it, its a waste of time and you’re not enjoying it. Same with a pve fan who’s trapped into doing pvp, he’s just eating up a space a proper pvp player could take, that team just got a player who doesn’t care about placing siege, taking keeps or giving info in map chat. He ‘s there to do the puzzle and get out as fast as possible. So next time your mate is stuck in que while you’re kitten off waiting for him – think “Thanks Anet! those 30 guys kittening about the campers in the jumping puzzle stopped my mate and half my kitten guild getting in, good freaking idea”
Small group of 5 can take camps easy. Hell solo if right build you can easy. And each camp Claimer can give 2 badges. Alot of times you will only be PvEing and if another player does come just die and rez back. only cost you 1sp and killing couple sentry/Yaks will net you this back.
Surely what is dumb is expecting people not to PvP in a PvP zone…
Because they sit there camping that area all day in large groups, making it impossible for other people to do the puzzles..if your blind to that then you need to get your eyes checked and buy some prescription glasses or contact lenses…
This is how it is suppose to work. In theory they are preventing you from getting siege and taking that to take one of the towers/keeps.
From the reports I’ve heard about last night, our oceanics/aisans didn’t really show up (or if they did, very few. Apparently no commanders for a bit). Hopefully that will change tonight. There is still time to adapt to Kaineng’s force and beat them.
Do I think we will beat them? Not without a lot of work, but I think it’s possible.

Do people like you and others who post this not know there are 1 Battleground for each server and same thing happens on the other 2 BG. n DB you have Mag attacking on side and Kai the other. idk but i think trying to get the ally to attack your target is the hardest part. the ally never seems to target the right thing. it just runs off into nowhere to fight a mob 50 miles away.
Fully agree – second hyena living her own life with her own priority.
The Hyena AI should have been fixed in the latest patch, just like the other companions. When you use Necromancer pets or Thieves companions now, they only attack the target you attack. And if you don’t attack anything, they will stay by your side until you attack, or you are dealt damage by a target.
But does it? Hyena should attack the target that the orignal one is. If not that is broken.
If you are doing a BM build Jaguar is hands down pest pet. Add in 10 in Skirmisghin and pick I-Pet prowess that is very good numbers the Jag puts out. Then add in a dog type for knockdown.

The disadvantage is it cannot cast very powerful magic from either color, so being proficient in many arts, it is a master of none. They can also use swords, but they are not as good at using it as a fighter.

Shout base warrior + rune of soliders = one best condition removals around. Add in 100% condition removal on heal food and each shout does 2 for warrior 1 for everyone else.
Just look at number of people he is fighting that do not have food buff on. Food buffs make a lot of difference. How can so many people run around with out them on.

Agreed… We were looking at going back to t8 again after this or maybe next week and maybe grow from there on, but now we (WSR) are looking at a first place and weeks of getting facerolled. Sure we will fight, but it’s not going to be alot of fun and we run the risk of losing players this way.
I sincerly hope that Anet has some undisclosed, alternate maths for the next matchups…
You should ease up on your point income if you don’t want to be out of your depth next week. Rolling in 600+ points, you’re just setting your own fate.
That is silly suggestion because not addressing problem of system and just trying to fix it in your favor. Servers should play to their upmost abilities. And Anet needs to fix scoring better.

Yes as ranger you can have all kinds of builds, wearing all kinds of gears getting all kinds of status killing all kinds of ppl, but none of these make significant change for your server to win a battle. However, there is one skill.
GUARD.
Why this skill?
I give 2 samples here:1, some of rangers already are using:
“Someone from SM is trebbing our keep, but none of our necro or ele can reach it since its location is hard to get! what we can do?” the Answer —- is GUARD.
“The enemy is build a cata but we don’t have time/supply to build counter and we don’t have enough number to push out! what we can do?” the Answer —- is GUARD.2, few rangers know and fewer ranger use it:
“We took bay for more than 1 hour, and swiped out all mesmers, but enemy still get in lords room without breaking either wall or gate, how the hell they get in?” the Answer —- is GUARD + rescue (sry, you leave a mesmer’s corpse on the wall un-guarded)There are more usage of GUARD especially in WvW, use your inspiration and you can make significant change to your server even you are only lv20.

Actually this will not work as Rescue is only for downed players. Stomped players are referred to as defeated and none of the rez type abilities work. Not sure how you have done this or are you just playing thoerycraft and have never actually done it.

Ah, wow. I stopped playing because I was waiting for ele to be put in a reasonable place, yet all I’m seeing, forum to forum, is ele nerfs. I loved ride the lightning, and they took functionality away from that too >_>. Suppose I’ll be back in a month or two to see where the profession is then.
Don’t misunderstand ele’s are not exactly in a bad position at all specially D/D ele’s, right now ele’s are pretty tough to beat. It’s just that this change is uncalled for seeing as mesmers have their portals and engineers have their rocket boots.

90% of the guys you kill in the video show very low skill. If you want people to take you seriously you might want to show better fights in the future.

If Anet was actually a better company and communicated with customer base they would explian changes. But as this company has one least amounts of communications(outside of sPvP) with it’s customer base we will always have this level of misunderstanding. 1-2 posts in class forum every 4 months is just sad. I I’m not superman, I know I can’t take 5v1 but even at a level 33 I can hold my own against 2v1 running as close as I can to Xsorus’ pain inverter build.
See key here is pain inverter which is not a ranger skill but a racial one. So in fact you are using a racial to subliment the lacking of ranger class. A say norn ranger does not have this advantage as worm and owl really are not nearly useful as PI. Why do think they don’t allow racials in sPvP, because they were never balanced race to race.
Mesmer has more utility in a siege situation
This is not true. Mesmer has feedback and Timewarp if doing golems other than that they are kinda meh in sieges. Ranger on other hand can attack siege and people on wall that no other class can attack. Rangers are much more valuable in sieges.

If walls and gates are up, there is supposed to be now way into an enemy fortification. Using “guard” bugs your pet and allows him in.
This isn’t “using tools” at your disposal. It’s simply exploiting an issue that hasn’t been resolved.
Good tip though on the guard + rescue. This accounts for a lot of mysteries in WvW :j
Only use it for spiders/birds and you are good to go because spiders can climb walls and birds fly in. Hell can even add cats cause my cat can climb like it’s his job.
The thing about rangers is that if the player behind one doesn’t know how to play, then they’re the easiest kills in the entire world.

No. A bad warrior still has plenty of health and armor to survive for a good long time. A bad mesmer still poops clones like no tomorrow. A bad thief will still be able to land huge crits and still has plenty of escape abilities. Likewise for elementalist. A bad necromancer will still have plenty of survivability. And so forth.
The ranger has none of this. Out of all classes, rangers depend the most on their own skill, not the innate abilities of the ranger class itself.

Yeah, there is only a total of 2 people working on Class Balances between all 8 professions. Words straight from a Dev’s mouth. :’[
They later elaborated on this and there is actually more than 2 people that work on class balance. It was something like 2 dedicated people a significant number of other people that help/consult for various areas of the game.
Those 2 people are more like the people ‘in charge’ of class balancing, as in the ‘bosses’ or the final decision makers.
If this is true then they sure are not putting in much work on class balance over last month to go into this patch. If look at overall changes most of class work was 1 thing they fixed or added a sub routine to handle attacks/skills that have charges now being effected by blinds/dodges etc. So pretty much one change slapped onto most of the classes. I more believe the original statement of only two as for amount of changes it makes more sense that a team only doing this much.
Hell even a ton of tooltips are still bugged if have a team working on class balance think one person could spend 8 hour day fixing them.
Why not make lvl’s account wide so if i lvl up to 80 and make a new alt i don’t have to go through the same content again? That way i don’t have to spend so much time on making alt’s that i can use in www.
Same content? You are aware that there are no fewer than two, and in many instances three or four, zones for any given level range, right?
Ofc i know that but i have done those on my main for map completion. So if someone want to make it take less time to get ascended items for the alts, why can’t they make it so it take less time to get the alts to 80 right? And if they made map completion count for all the characters the problem will be solved since then u have to visit it either with 1 character or with multiple characters, that’s up to you how you do it:)
Because with the gear in question they but in a barrier to gearing alts. Technically you could lvl all your alts to 80 in as short of time span as you are willing to play per said time span. But with way system is now to get neck item you are limited in basically one per month.
Protip – AoE works on thief in stealth. Just bleed or poison them to death.
Except for Hide in Shadows or Shadow’s Embrace or Shadow’s Rejuvenation this would be a good plan.
Doors and walls aren’t meant to take damage from players only siege. Has been like that as long as I have used the izerker
When I read comments like this I wonder do you people even play GW2 at all or just have forum account to comment on and spread false info. If you have siege at least 1 tower/keep have never attacked a door? sure dmg is not much per person compared to siege but it is dmg.
