Yes its amazing how you survive all that.
When i get caught by 5+ ppl i usually just get primaried and dps’ed down in a matter of seconds.
Decoy and mass invis help little cause of all the channeled attacks that still hit me anyway.
Only with lowbies or really dumb ppl do i pull off stunts like that when outnumbered 3/5:1
But i can’t say i’m a great pvper anyway, i know im just an average player.
Still i like your vids

Dodge while invis and do not continue in same direction you where going when you use decoy. Roll to the side and go at 90 degree angle if you can.

So really only thing to nerf is remove mirror image? Because that is only way to insta get up the required clones. Once bugged shatter is fixed what then nerf shatter? What about people running a GS/Staff shatter build and don’t use mirror image. It is like Thief signet that got “nerfed” BS did not get nerfed so neither should shatter. Just balance mirror image.

This is more than likely a server timeing issue. IE they cast the spell before you hit invul. Same thing happens to my eng and mesmer all time I’ll be invul and still crap hits.

Engi is fine and can hold its ground against any other profession out there, but if you are like OP or most of the whiners here who cant handle profession that requires more than 3 key presses to compete its better to roll something like warrior or thief.

And this is what most “whiners” as you call them are saying. The Eng player has to perform better than most of other professions to hold its ground. If you as a eng make a mistake it lights out with thief if make a mistake just drop shadow refuge and leave area to reset the fight. This applies to many other classes. D/D Ele just mistform and go etc. Eng loses out on a lot of “Oh crap” buttons because we have to lose 1 utility slot to equip a kit to have same number of skills another class has.

well, a proc on crit and a proc on swap definitly work well together (sigil of str and battle for might stacks for example). i want this on my rifle too!
its really a big problem for me, as im 2 weeks away from The Predator …

Sigils do not work like this. On my Ele having D/D and a proc on swap and on crit only the last proc will work and puts other into cooldown. So if you crit and then swap attuments that proc on swap will not fire off. Best is to use a proc and then a +% rune on other.

Too huge nerf to elixir gun.

It should be like Pietoro said, devs are able to split skills into PvP and PvE versions and that’s the only valid balancing option

In PvP base heal slightly higher than now, after fix or decent healing power scaling. This way engineer could throw some nice healing if traited (kit refinement) or geared for healing, obviously sacrificing some offensive stats

In PvE we’re not fighting few players like in PvP, we’re facing waves of strong dungeon monsters or huge zergs in WvW. That’s why they should leave either bugged version, or modify it to provide a bit less base healing, but scale well with healing power. PvE will always be based on much bigger numbers than PvP, at least in terms of damage, so healing should also be improved (not only by means of WvW % buff)

I would be cool with them splitting it up in PvE and PvP, but in WvsW that Super Elixir was simply to strong as well when you met people 1vs1, or even 1vs2! Heck, a small group of players could probably have used, or did use, it to great effect while it did heal for that much. It’s not fair I have a heal that spam able, that’s AoE, and heal for that much in any sort of PvP encounter! But I’m all in for giving PvE players buff’s if they are needed

You mean like a Ele healing if traited right? My d/d ele can full heal off attument switching and using the 2 heal abilites. Granted his hps ae only 12.5K but still.

I’m not looking for duels; I’m looking for someone who can put up a fight. I’ve been running around a week and a half in this matchup, and I’ve seen a ton of Maguuma out solo/small group, and I’ve seen a ton of EB doing the same, but Yak’s? One person. You can try to say that doesn’t mean everyone on YB is a bad zerger, but at the very least it means the proportion of good players from YB is so low that actually finding one is like looking for a needle in a very green, very large haystack.

But hey, on the bright side, I did run into an elementalist from YB that was pretty damned tough. I almost had to use my elite, and that doesn’t happen often 1v1.

So let’s get this straight, you roll up a dueling spec DD ele or theif and you wander around either by yourself or with a mate and you wonder why people who likely have group orientated specs, maybe even pve specs, maybe I’m a noob spec, don’t stop to duel you. Makes perfect sense.

Most people have learned by now to just leave the dueller players alone.

Want to duel. Go play spvp.

Yea silly them to like have spec that is good at taking keeps and such huh? Because everyone knows key to WvWvW is ganking people running to a siege.

Oi. The other kits were sub-par to begin with. Not nerfed.

Grenades were merely brought into line, and this was done in preparation for when they make it so kits will scale with weapon damage.

Who said so because from patch notes all I read was the kits were reduced because of sigils. Stop spreading rumors and assumptions unless you have a source for this.

In the mean time I love my 1000+ crit with autoattack Ranger.

Auto-attack rifle engineer has had 1200-1400+ crit at 50-70% crit rate since before launch. And unlike your ranger, due to piercing, a single rifle shot can hit multiple foes. It’s posts like these that make me wonder if the people in this thread ever even tried a non-grenade build.

Have you seen the “rifle is poor damage”posts prior to patch? I was just sitting there scratching my head.
Engi rifle auto attack is like the #2 highest dps ability after grenades in the game..

Would be cool if people auto attacked for the majority of their DPS.

Sadly they do not, and rifle only has one actual DPS skill aside from autoattack.

I highly doubt its the highest DPS either, highest damage maybe but I am 95% sure my thief’s autoattacks do far more DPS than my engineers.

That is because person does not understand what dps means. Or they are just take a 1 shoot sample to determine dps. Try and kill someone with autoshoot 1 on rifle and see how long it takes.

So ArenaNet really does hate Engineers?

on paper it seems to be good dmg, but in practice it is really not reliable. Most of time a moving target will not get hit by either pet nor Grenade. So Anet step away from spreadsheet for a min and go play the game for a bit and will see Grenade dmg is only practicably for stationary targets.

We already got sigil for bundle kit but not the weapon stats.

I won’t be complaining “IF” we can get the weapon stats which can compensate the current 30% dmg reduction for grenade kit, the problem is we haven’t got it yet.

The 30% dmg reduction should be implemented “AFTER” we can get the benefit from weapon stats otherwise this is just a plain nerf without any compensation.

30% dmg reduction for sigil effect is just not worth it, I prefer not having the sigil effect instead.

What makes you think they will not nerf it further when do add it? People are assuming this was done because of weapon stats. Those people are just trying to make an excuse that Anet could not be so stupid in thinking Granades were OP.

First you complain that Grenades are the only way to play, now you kitten that its not. You guys are making this game horrible with your constant whining.

Play a Thief or Warrior and the game wont be as bad.
The reason Grenades were considered the only way to play was because the profession set up basically forces you to use a kit. ANET states exactly that, MH weapons are weaker because of our kit options, to me that is ANET saying that the only viable way to play an Engineer is to play with a kit. Out of all the kits the grenades have the most appeal to the widest range of ppl.

Bomb kit is tricky to use and also looks stupid, just running around swinging your arm dropping terracotta pots on the ground.
EG is support.
FT is bugged.
Toolkit was difficult to use, then they patched it, now it is alot cooler but still difficult to use. (as much as I love TANKCAT, its also a gimmick build that is defeated when you fight someone smart enough not to kill themselves with confusion)

Grenades were just a love/hate thing with most ppl.
PPL have had nothing but negatives to say about turrets and yet those havent been touched at all.

They claim the class has versatility but that only counts in dungeons where you know what is coming. Unless you can tell the future in PvP you would have to run around with three kits to get the “versatility” they claim compensates for our weakness.

In the end Engineers just have to wait another few months or so untill ANET figures out what the hell they really want to do with this thrown together profession.

Correct. Thats why i like Engineers. I always plan ahead. Some people here twist the meaning of versatility to “being good at everything”. The truth is versatility can also be about customization. I can focus on healing today and tanking tomorrow. Sometimes i do DPS. Thats what’s fun for me.

Anyway i pointed out last month based on me observation (before the announcement) that all the whining people want is to feel superior. They want buffs but are unhappy with corresponding nerfs. I also pointed that all kits will be scaled if they implement sigils to kits. (luckily only grenades skill 1 were affected). They said i was wrong and its about “customization”. Yet now when they can customize their kits, they are not satisfied.

So if I “customize” my weapon with a healing or end rune how does that make up for 30% dmg decrease? Or how can I add sigil to rifle to make up for loss of 30%.

Give me a reason not to quit

Flamethrower + Ice sigil for 1) Irony.

Bomb kit + Fire sigil for 2) Better Explosions.

And… a post confirming that kits will eventually scale with weapon-damage.

Step two is to get the weapon stats to apply to kits as well. We felt sigils was the more important first step because it creates build diversity. Flamethrower with sigil of air? Yes please.

What he doesn’t say is that nerfing Grenades is necessary for game-health between the engineer kits. Nades being higher DPS in all ranges is no fun for other engies.

So buff the other kits.
What about Engineers running Potions or Turrets?
So they need to nerf the ppl that play with the kit that has the highest damage & highest player skill requirement so the ones that run around with FT or EG will feel better.
Engineers are the least played profession and the majority of the ppl that do actually use them play with nades so its good for the games health to nerf them

I think the Dev who came up with 30% was thinking same thing so others in this post thought . That 3x grandaes whould cause 3x proc of a sigil. When infact this is impossable due to internal cooldowns. You would not even get back to back proc on throws. Only 1 proc per 3 throws at most. So not sure how sigils make nades 30% stronger.

Couldn’t this be solved with changing how resource nodes are spawned? Nodes should never spawn in the same place, they should just be scattered around the area randomly.

I’m not sure if this would help, but it’s a thought.

No this would not help. Because I am sure bot programs are able to read from memory where the nodes are located and port to them. Anything client can see so can a bot program. In fact probably able to see more and further because as in other MMOs the information is there but just flag for distance/visibility etc.

All phantasms now utterly broken.

It has always had a delay, I am investigating if the delay somehow got changed. If someone has good raw data on the old damage of berserker vs the new damage that will also help me track down where that change came from and fix it.

Some days ago, a full-exotics level 80 Yak Bend player was messaging me, clearly deeply hurt to the point of being shocked (he wasn’t pretending), after I killed him in our (TCBL) jumping puzzle. I just ran there for my blueprints, met a red player, dispatched him – really nothing out of ordinary.

Now, he started asking me about how good I feel about myself, attacking people in a puzzle, and as he wouldn’t ever do such disgusting thing, as he and his men only fight on the real battlefield and whatever, I wasn’t paying much attention by then, but his point was supposed to be something about that.

Well, looks like that nice concept works for them only as long they’re not on the top, quite literally it seems.

Actually, that combo is fairly impractical, easily countered, and in general elementalists need to sacrifice a lot more to achieve what a warrior can achieve and less.

Even fully specced for glass cannon instagib rifle, warriors are a lot tankier than Elementalists. They can throw out their combo from a lot further away, and can use Frenzy to cover for the long channel time of Kill Shot. Even without Kill shot, they still do very respectable damage with volley, and they have the luxury of doing all this from the top of a tower, which is actually practical during seiges. Thanks to piercing rifle shots, they can also take out a sufficient chunk of a zerg without exposing themselves to retalliation.

Come on, it’s not rocket science.

And Ele can not die on siege defence.

Master all your weapons and Utility Skills.
All weapons and utilities 100% useful. It’s how you use them that determines their usefulness.

The moment you do that, you have mastered your class and know how to play it’s full capabilities and be ready for dungoens and such.

As for stats? Not as important compaired to knowing how to use your skills on time while moving away and dodging enemy attks.

Attk enemy’s Blind sides with meele and ranged weapons.
Remember: Each weapon/utility skills are good for different situations. So plan your strategies and learn to build different ones so when time comes you need to change ur tactics, you can without limitations.

Um not sure why posted this in response because you are assuming the person is clueless about his class and not answering his question yet telling him to learn how to play his class first. So why? Kinda like someone asking other golfers what clubs they are using then you come in and tell him to learn to drive. And it could turn out it was Tiger Woods asking.

I don’t personally do this but I also don’t see how this is an exploit. It is using your professions ability to an advantage, no different from a mesmer portalling 30 people in a surprise attack.

Apples and oranges mate….2 totally different things. Mez has a 20s portal that is useless if your team sweeps and cleans out the mezs before leaving. They dont sweep and enemy portals inside, thats your fault, not the mez. The portal is nowhere near OP, as it has a very very very simple negate to it — sweep for mesmers. (i’ll concur with the portaling in of folks also has the rendering bug issue involved which needs fixing, but the portal itself is minor and easily avoided)

Thieves perma stealth on the other hand…its lame. The “just AoE the area” is bout lame as the “area” is a 6k-8k diameter circle, short of a large AoE zerging it, there’s near nothing u can do until the thieve makes a mistake.

I vote to simply make the cap circle no larger than any of the other cap circles on the maps. Circle the supervisor like at all the other points.

I don’t get why everyone tries so hard to make the video look bad. Most people in this part of the forums always try to turn PvP videos with rangers look bad. They are so obsessed about how the class “sucks” that they have to give 100 excuses on why the video was unfair or bad or w/e stupid excuse they find. So much negativity in general here.

But anyway, video was great, enjoyed it. Hope you post more Sol. And ignore the trolls.

Because people like OP try and play off how good a ranger is and people just need to L2P. “Hope it helps people understand a ranger better.” Maybe that was not his intent but it could well be interpreted like that. Look at the Asura Ranger videos someone has posted lately. Most people are saying good job, why because he found a way using pain inverter a race ability to actually play decently in WvW.

Another way of looking at the effects of statistics improvements via gear is to look directly at the damage formula.

Here I’ll take the simplified damage formula for direct damage skills.

Damage is (weapon damage + power) times some scalars, then divided by the target’s (armor + toughness).

Weapon damage depends on 1h vs 2h and all, and there’s a range with random variation, so let’s just take 1000 as an average for that. A typical lvl 80 exotic character may have 916 power while naked, say 200 power from traits, 236 from armor (that’s the max power karma set), 426 power from accessories, and 180 from weapons (going full zerker). In the damage formula, the variables that come from your character add up to 2960. Now imagine you get all 3 of the new ascended items, again going full berserkers. Each adds 11 power, for a total of 33. This is an increase of just over 1% to your actual damage output.
The relative improvement is a bit more if you have very conservative/tankish/defensive gear, potentially getting as high as 2% increase in damage, or so.

I’ll admit, I was as infuriated as anyone when I saw they were adding a new tier. And then I did the math. At this rate, all it’s doing is giving us something to work on. The actual effects on character performance will be so small as not to adversely affect the tuning of previous content. You also won’t actually see any relevant performance differences in wvw or how many skills it takes to kill a mob.

So what happens in months from now after they have added just a little increase 10 times over. IT is principle of how they changed the game from what they sold us.

My attitude is if, or rather when, the ascended/infused gear becomes crucial for content outside of FotM (and ignoring PvP in my case since that’s not my thing) then they will inevitably introduce other means of acquiring it. I can see the issues that will cause already, “wahhh I did nothing but grind FotM for months and now some noob is getting equivalent gear from world boss chests waaahhh”, but that’s a whole other story.
In other words, I’ll just wait it out. That’s the beauty of not paying a sub.

I’m just waiting for the phrase “Welfare Ascendeds” to be introduced.

Any bets on when that will happen?

Probably soon. Considering I just had a WoW flashback reading someone post “get a guild” Same thing I read in WoW. Wish this game would of said from beging that vertical gear was what it was aiming for. Hell even 2-3 weeks in I remember reading a Dev post talking about why legendaries were a grind.

The term “slippery slope” comes to mind. Many players here have years of MMO playing experience and they can smell rats from a distance. And they are sounding a warning.

Slippery slope? Yes. Gear treadmill? Not yet.

So all these people who are making a Huge Drama out of this and even quitting or asking for refunds, are overreacting terribly imo.

It’s one thing to sound an alarm. It’s another thing to let what might come ruin the fun you’re having and acting like an angry mob with too many pitchforks.

This is just the beginning" as qutoed from the article. Dev vvery clearly states we going to see more Ascended as time goes on and also a “new” Tier called legendary which was formanlly exotics with cool skins but is now a whole new tier above Ascended. So we will see exotic<Ascended<legendary. Instead of Exotic=Legendary…Wow a gear treadmill.

It may be one gear now, but when all the QQers get those Ascended, they will complain more. What will Anet do then? Add another tier of item. This is how gear-treadmill happens. kitten like this happened alot of time on others mmo, and Im afraid it will happen on GW2 as well.

So you guys think it’s a good idea to make >huge< assumptions and complain non-stop about something that has not yet happened and may never happen? How is this helping anyone? How is this beneficial?

This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.
As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.
You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power. We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.
The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).
I hope you are all as excited about these new items as I am!"

They are adding 2 tiers now. Legendary is a whole new tier of item stats. Before it was just a cool skin same stats. So Exotic is no longer end game tier, neither is Ascended .

It is worth sticking with.
Most of the negativity is overreacting and most of it comes from the same group of people.
Also keep in mind that happy customers tend to play the game and such instead of shouting about things on the forums.

You know Every game that has failed people have said this. Do you know that you are doing Anet no favors by you falling into typical human reaction of thinking you are in the majority. Same thing happened to GoP during last election and is still happening. People think their views are only right ones and thus everyone must have them. So from now on state your opinion and leave it at that. Don’t make up fantasy situations that you can have no idea if true or not.

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

The OP is what is wrong with society of today. He let’s others opinions and what others tell him dicate what he thinks feel. I myself have my own mind and opinion and reading something does not dicate it. He and others like him are why Firefly was canceled too.:p

Man watching this video I was amassed at how few people dodge ever. Pretty much why they all died. I guess that is what separates good from bad players.

After the last patch, my main is now a Mesmer. I don’t honestly see Rangers ever getting a decent fix. Their base mechanic (pets) is terrible. They should be a bonus to the ranger, not ~50% or so of their damage output. Which considering how much time they spend dead and how slow their attack is, also isn’t very impressive.

All their core mechanics are seriously flawed:

1) Pets
2) Spirits
3) Bows (e.g. rifles automatically pierce, deal bleeding from any angle etc.)
4) Melee (Sword rooting, evades you have to use up in order to actually use a skill)

Having lots of “utility” in weapons is worthless when a warrior (for example) comes along and just pastes the same enemy into mush within 3 seconds. You don’t need utility when the enemy is dead.

IMO mesmers are just as bad as rangers now vs anyone who understands how a mesmer works. Mesmer was my first 80 before going thief and it was good class till this patch. Blind preventing clones from spawning is really screwing them over. Can shut down the mesmer really bad if blind them.
