Heavy Zerk Armor: Runes of Speed or Traveler?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mojo Gris Gris.5941

Mojo Gris Gris.5941

I’m currently working towards a set of Ascended Zerker Heavy Armor. Since it’s Ascended, I know once I slot the runes, I won’t be getting them back. Also, it’s too much work, for the foreseeable future, to plan on making more than one set. I am currently running a Celestial set with traveler’s runes on my guardian. I want to be able to swap the zerker set between guard, war, and the coming rev. I don’t know what is in store swiftness/speedwise for rev, but since guards don’t have a +25% speed boost available, I’m looking at choosing either speed or traveler (heresy for a zerk set, I know, but work with me here).

My question is: which set, in your opinions, will be more beneficial? I will not be slotting anything other than one of those two sets, since I’ve come to really enjoy the +25% speed and don’t want to lose it. Also, cost is not a factor. I know speed runes are much cheaper, but I want the pros/cons of effectiveness without factoring price.

TL;DR If you were given the choice between only Runes of Speed, or Runes of the Traveler, on an Ascended Zerker Heavy Armor set, which would you choose and why? Assume price is not a concern.

Got one aswell, already sent a bug report. Waiting for a response to know if I can keep it or should I do something else.
edit: I bought the digital deluxe upgrade long ago

If they finally decided to send it to those who bought the DD edition pre-order, I’m going to be soooooooo happy.

One of my friends who got one still doesn’t have the deluxe upgrade, so that’s not it :p

Well, darn… I won’t be able to check for another 2 1/2 hours…

I opened countless stacks of gifts during Wintersday, and I only got one. I’m actually surprised I got one, considering the RNG chances in this game for rare items. Haven’t opened any gifts since though. Considering the snowflake MF recipe, it is probably still in the loot table.

The physics is ‘proper’ for Tyria, even if it’s improper for Earth. Even aside from the obvious, there are plenty of examples that clue you into the difference:

  • You toss Dragon’s Tooth and it doesn’t hurt friends, burns foes, but doesn’t burn wood objects nearby.

Engineer bombs and grenades also say, “Hi.”

What to do about the Watchwork Mining Pick

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mojo Gris Gris.5941

Not really. Going back to the cell phone analogy. If I buy a cell phone, and 6 months later a new model comes out with better features, I wouldn’t expect anyone to do anything about it. I spent the money on my current phone, and got what I paid for. There was no way of telling that my phone would become second rate in a few months. Just like the picks before the watchwork pick. If I spent the money on those picks, I got what I paid for. A new upgraded model comes out, I should have no reason to expect that my previous pick should be upgraded for free to match the upgraded version. If I want the upgrade I pay for the upgrade.

I kind of expected that comparison, and I guess it’s a fair point even though it’s kind of an apples to oranges comparison. However, let’s go with something similar. It’s more like signing up for what seems like a great cell plan, only to have the company start a much better plan a few months later, but it’s only available for “new customers” and gives a free phone, when you paid full price for yours. I always hate it when a company gives new customers a bonus, but the existing customer gets nothing, even though they have been paying more for longer. Still not a great analogy, but even though that’s the way it is, it’s not exactly right. To take it just a step further, I’ll agree that Anet was pretty fair to change the first tools to Account Bound with no charge after the watchwork came out as account bound. And, hey, I’m not asking for a free upgrade to the tools, but I would go ahead and pay 500 gems for an upgrade to my existing tools, if it meant some extra drops, and a way to get those “out of circulation” items. As it stands, I just don’t see the point in using my old molten picks anymore.

What to do about the Watchwork Mining Pick

Plus think of the sprocket generator that many people have in their home instances is . Is that also unfair? Should everyone be given a generator so everyone has equal access to it?

Anyone can get it for 15g and 25 Laurels, which is much cheaper than buying 1000 gems.

following that same logic, it’s also unfair that some people can speed run dungeons, and do a full dungeon tour in a short time.

I’m not sure how that logic follows. In game play and experience =/= rl money.

Call me crazy if u want, but i enjoy the convenience and i bought 9 full sets, 1 for each of my characters. You’d have to agree that’s a lot of doe. But now i’m stuck with 9 inferior sets.

Yeah, holy wow… I bought 2 sets of unlimited tools before the watchwork, and I can only imagine how angry I’d have been after spending enough for 9 sets and then have a better one be released.

So those who spend the money, or gold, to get the watchwork pick should essentially be punished for having it because it’s not “fair”?

~snip~

There is no reason that anyone should be given an upgrade to items they already bought simply because one other item gives a chance to drop an extra item.

So, if you had spent enough for multiple infinite picks, only to have another drop in the gem store that was better, you would not feel slighted or disappointed in the least?

It should be picking Azurite, to be honest. Those orbs don’t even exist anymore (except maybe, rarely, in a specific fractal), but you can at least buy a Gift of Sprockets or whatever it’s call via laurels.

This. My biggest problem with LS1 was the temporary nature of additions to the game. After the watchwork pick came out, my first thought was, “Why use the molten pick any more?” The second was, “They should really make the other permanent tools harvest bonus items. Especially things like the sprockets and azurite that were limited time content additions.” I can’t argue that the existence of the watchwork pick is inherently unfair to anyone, since it (finally) is a permanent fixture in the gem store. However, it does feel unfair to have purchased tools before its release without knowing that they would be worth less (not to be read worthless) than an item to be released later. I don’t feel a need to rage about it, but try to understand the disappointment of those of us who spent rl cash on an item, only to later feel it was made less valuable by a new item.

Leaning toward Logitech G600 gaming mouse

The build quality is great, it is certainly built to last. And just to add testament to that, I have been disconnecting it and taking it to a friends house once every week, for the past few years, and it is still in excellent condition. Regarding the profiles, I have used both onboard and pc based, and both work fine.

The G600 is easily the best mouse I have ever bought and do not regret spending more than most gaming mice for it. If it ever breaks, I will get another one in a heartbeat.

Quoting this just to add that I have a rather odd setup for my PC, and I have tripped over the mouse cable and sent it flying to the ground on MANY occasions with no problems afterward.

…not that I advise dropping or throwing it.

I like the idea of bringing back old content to fill the gap, but not at the expense of other projects in the works. Should they have anticipated this and planned for some filler? Yes. Is it really a deal-breaker if they don’t? Maybe not really. I do know this: I’m not liking the way that a world that was supposed to be “living” is feeling so stagnant for so long. I’m going nuts with the constant LA repeating chatter:

“Parts of the city are still unsafe, but once we fix…”
“I’m tired of excuses, Magnus. If you can’t get Lion’s Arch back on its feet, you’re going to wake up and find this a ghost town.”
“Who was that?”

I’ve been using the G600 for about 5 months now, and I love it. Granted, it’s the first gaming mouse I’ve used, but after only a few weeks, I noticed a huge leap in my control performance. I still hit the occasional wrong button on both keyboard and mouse, but it’s better than when I had to totally change my hand position to reach a key, then try to return to initial position (left side). I have all my 6-10 skills mapped to side buttons along with M, F, R, Z (look behind), X (about face), I, and H. Totally using the ring click (third mouse button or “G-Shift”) as dodge. Even set wheel click to F12, and the extra top button to B. I haven’t saved any profiles that I’m not using, and I used the Logitech software to set them on the onboard memory.

If everyone would take this simple step before deleting and blocking, the team would be able to make significant reductions in spammers! It’s fast. It’s effective. It’s appreciated.

I would imagine that implementing a “Do not disturb” function is something that would be complicated and time consuming. I don’t anticipate that it’s a system we’ll see in the near future, and we may never see such an option. Keep in mind, though, that we already have a means for you to handle these situations: report, block, delete. And using “invisible,” while not ideal, is another means at your disposal.

how can it be much less than you hoped ?

One single announced fix to the Personal Story doesn’t address half of the issues complained about from the NPE. I’ve seen a lot more detractors than defenders of the NPE, and I don’t even necessarily agree with all of the complaints. That said, I have seen evidence that Anet actually DO listen to forum posters on SOME issues. In fact, the original trait changes were made due to forum feedback. I can’t even guess why they make some of the decisions they make, but I can say that if no one complains about what they don’t like, Anet won’t know.

I’m not trying to turn this into yet another NPE thread so I’m out.

Why is silk going up in price?

The only mistake that I know of John admitting to was with the sheer amount of Bloodstone Dust players farmed. Something about it being 10 digits more than what he expected.

Well, no, I didn’t really do the whole train thing.

I was really referring to the bolded part of Obtena’s quote.
Sorry for any confusion.

The only valid complaint I see is the disparity between weight classes in terms of time restrictions and overall value between the two sets.

Those are 2 issues worth addressing but at this point, i doubt that this can happen in a constructive way in this thread.

I think I agree with Wanze here, but I’d add that the disparity between tiers of cloth and leather should probably be addressed too. This thread is on a downward spiral though…

Why is silk going up in price?

Mojo Gris Gris.5941

The only mistake that I know of John admitting to was with the sheer amount of Bloodstone Dust players farmed. Something about it being 10 digits more than what he expected.

Do people really farm bloodstone dust? I’ve got more than 20 stacks of it in my vault and I didn’t farm any of it. I wish I could get rid of it.

That must have happened before the Queensdale train was euthanized.

The silk upset has to do with the 3×100 formula than the actual prices. If silk went back to 2×50, a third of what it is now, the question becomes if the market can sustain at a new equilibrium after the initial price slump. If that’s in question, how can we flow more silk into the system to make the 3×100 formula more comparable to leather and mithril? That’s closer to the original question at hand.
Alternatively, how do we safely raise leather, which is already in the tank, possibly mithril, a direct-farm material, so that their use and trade is more in line with where silk is already?
From an gold-sink and economic health standpoint, the latter is probably the better approach anyway.* It would promote more even trade through the TP if T5 materials were closer to 1:1, and the trade fees would drink up a fair amount of excess gold.
Of course, option 2 doesn’t really address the numerical imbalance of classes/weights, which is where the suggestion of leather-crafted insignia entered the discussion several pages back. Raises leather, takes the burden off of cloth, pretty much a win-win, once the market re-stabilizes. Still favors metal/heavy overall, but..eh, can’t have everything?

*(Not a Ph.D. in economics. Consult an actual economist for details. If symptoms last longer than 4 hours, discontinue immediately.)

This is good stuff. Tell me more about this. I read somewhere in this thread that leather has a salvage item of each tier more than cloth. Does anyone think that adding one additional for cloth would help bring the two into a better equilibrium? What about removing that one additional for leather? I would think one of those two suggestions would have much less impact than revising the Damask formula.

I played LW S1 and I don’t want it to come back. Not because I didn’t enjoy it (especially the later parts), but that would make a mockery of the whole living story idea. Lion’s Arch burnt down to the ground…that was a one time event and shouldn’t be replayable. Honestly, I also totally enjoyed the Karka event that took place just in one live event. Too bad too many ppl were playing on a potatoe and were experiencing some difficulties unfortunately…THAT really felt epic beeing part of something unique that took place only once in a huuuuuge mega event.

You know what else feels epic?

The disappointment of missing that one time event because I had to work.

For those that say SW is not a quick method to gather Silk without also gathering excessive amounts of Elder Logs and Mithril, I present to you these number. These are from salvage only(no node gathering) and with comparison to Mithril and Elder Logs. These numbers are from opening 50 Heirloom Seed Pouches and salvaging what ever came out of them:

  • Silk – 101 pcs
  • Elder Logs – 49 pcs
  • Mithril – 27 pcs

I can and probably will get the same or more from opening another 50 Seed pouches as well as Embroidered Coin Purses…and that’s with having 1000 storage capacity, not even max, of both raw and refined materials full. I already have enough of each refined to fully fill up a max storage at 1500 each if I wanted to increase my capacity to that amount.

First off, ground turkey is amazing. Ground turkey makes you strong.
Secondly, a wild rant != good feedback in any situation.

Let me ask a question, if you could farm silk specifically, but slowly, so the price remained what it currently is or higher, would that be better or worse?

I’d call that a win.

Part of the rancor about silk is the indirect, semi-RNG nature of it. While it’s possible to ‘farm’ for it by waiting on drops, there isn’t yet a way to roam from map to map and grab it reliably. We’ve cracked jokes in another thread about looting laundry lines for cloth drops, but I don’t consider it a terrible idea.

From my personal PoV, agreed. Currently, farming all cloth feels like taking a truckload of sand and pouring through a sifter, hoping to find the right kind of buried treasure. The time spent collecting the sand makes the process feel that much more disheartening. At least, if I knew at the end of it all that I was definitely getting an amount of cloth (of whatever tier, even though I know this thread started with silk), it would feel more satisfying. I recently spent a couple of 2 hour sessions in Timberline Falls, finishing up map completion. Killed most all mobs, did some events, finished the map. At the end of the 2 sessions, I had managed to get a total of 2 cotton scraps, and 3 linen scraps. Map completion, thankfully, awarded 40 linen scraps, but that is a one time deal. 3 scraps from RNG after 4 hours… that’s kitten.

Edit: We currently have a system some view as less than ideal, but I would strongly object to any change that would make matters worse. Better bad than worse.

There are a couple things that could be done to make the situation more equitable, but ArenaNet knows that and has chosen not to. This is a live game not a drawing board exercise so any changes in the name of symmetry and/or justice have to not badly disrupt the experience of early adopters who’ve already paid the higher prices.

Very few suggestions address the fact the system has already been out in the wild for a year now.

I dont agree at all that its a flawed system because its working as intended.

I’ve been convinced by some arguments that the “problem” of silk prices doesn’t have an easy solution. But if the system is working as intended and not at all “broken,” why then did Anet decide to add cloth supply temporarily during an event? It’s pure speculation on my part, but I think they wanted a trial run for adding new sources of cloth with the opportunity to inject supply along a timeline that could be monitored and analyzed for pros/cons. I see the temporary injection as a choice by Anet to try to analyze what would happen to the market should they add more sources. This signifies, to me, they see some sort of problem worth addressing.

By all accounts, I totally agree that it makes no “sense” (I realize we are playing a fantasy game where there are many things that don’t make sense, nor should they have to) to have t6 cheaper than t5, which is cheaper than t4. The introduction of leather problems to the conversation quickly complicates most solutions. There should definitely be more balance to the system, but how it can be accomplished…

Well, I used to think it was simple, but if it was, it would have been fixed already.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the most I came out and spent on one skin was around 65g, but depending on how good I think it looks and how bad I want it, I’d be willing to spend more. Can’t say I’d spend over 1k gold on a skin, but I can’t fault anyone for paying it.

To me, this really is the most significant question for you to consider:

what else are you going to do with all the gold that you accumulate?

Seriously and without sarcasm. You don’t have to answer it for anyone on the forum, but you should ask yourself. If you have the $$, and you want it more than other stuff, why not?

The price is fine where its at. Its one of the very few things that ArenaNet has adjusted for inflation.

Also know that MANY players around you own a tag but don’t always throw it up (thankfully).

You’re welcome.

Seriously though, as many times as I’ve wished that between 5 and 20 commanders would turn off their tags so I can see map markers, I cannot agree that it needs to be any less expensive than it is. I would hate myself if I actually called for it to be more expensive though, so I’ll say I think the price is in a good place.

First person camera coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mojo Gris Gris.5941

Mojo Gris Gris.5941

I couldn’t care less about first person view as I always prefer 3rd person whenever applicable (I like to see my characters I worked hard making), but I’m glad other people will get some use out of it. I know its been a much-requested feature. Although, if you can still see your weapons Elder Scrolls style then I guess I might use it occasionally for closer inspection of my weapons.

The camera collision thing sounds amazing, though. It drives me up the wall when I get near a tiny rock and the camera has a seizure and gets sucked right up my characters’ butt. Hopefully its as good as it sounds on paper (or, well, computer screen).

Kind of confused about the supposed “change” to the camera making it change based on race, because it seems to me it already does that. On my Charr, for instance, I have to zoom the camera out 2 notches in order to see my full character, where on my Asura and Sylvari I only have to zoom out one notch. And in tight spaces my Asura’s camera has less “seizure moments” than my Charr would in the same spot. I guess maybe its just a position change?

I also always prefer 3rd person, but with the present camera behavior, I’ve been forced to look through my norn’s back (not fully transparently) or head, and it’s similar with charr, sylvari, and humans. I’ve always wanted the ability to at least temporarily zoom in fully to see my surroundings. This is definitely a huge improvement, especially if the camera behaves better near walls than before. I might actually create additional characters of norn/human/charr/sylvari. As the camera is, I had vowed to only make asura because they were the least problematic.

Well it was elaboratly explained in the patch notes when it came out and the previous announcement before that when it was gonna end.

Don’t forget the multiple threads asking about the event’s end, which all have gotten replies, you could have checked those.

Oh wait.

What an incredibly helpful and constructive reply that was.

1) There’s nothing whatsoever in the patch notes, that I can see, about end date.
2) I have a life beyond GW2, and many better things to do with my time than reading every single thread in the forums. If it was discussed here – so what? I didn’t see it. I strongly doubt I was the only person.
3) I was making a serious point; if you can’t manage a serious answer, I really wouldn’t bother. ANet launched GW2 in China last year; Spring Festival is a big thing, and is still going. I had assumed that the content would continue; I was wrong. But why on earth kill the parallel game content for the sake of it? It’s like deciding to end Wintersday on December 23rd.

In the same way that Meta Achievements list the requirements of the Achie, the diving goggle locations could be listed on the description tab of the goggle achie, only after they are counted by the achievement system. That keeps the locations “hidden,” but would also allow players to see what they have registered. At least, I think that’s what Randulf is suggesting.

Dragonite-consuming item update?

I cannot imagine that an item of this sort will not be eventually added. I’m a bit surprised, however, that an item was introduced to eat candy corn before the empyreals even.

~snip~
Any opinion which was stated as overall negative got a ranking of “nay.” Any opinion overall positive got a “yay.” Any opinion which was modified to be better after their own OP also got a “yay.” Any opinion which was ambiguous, but seemed positive got a “yay.” Every poster got only one rank no matter how many posts they made. Any posts made regarding only the trait changes was ignored. Likewise, some posters which had no stated opinion were ignored. I purposely gave the “yay” crowd more leeway, and was more stringent on all of the “nay” votes.
~snip~
Granted, that is only this thread.

But page 1 was before changes were made to the NPC that solved some people’s complaints. This thread started BEFORE the change. A lot of people were complaining about the elite skill unlocking at 40 where as almost no one is complaining about it unlocking at level 31 by comparison. Likewise there were bug fixes where on your second character, you didn’t get locked out of stuff like skill points.

Taking it from the beginning means you’re ignoring changes that people thought were okay. There were even people who said (not sure if in this thread or not) that they were okay with it after those changes.

You have to count from when the changes were made, because it pacified quite a few people, except for the most vocal. You’d also have to exclude people who are complaining mainly about the trait system and saying that’s the NPE which is a bunch of other people.

First, if you read the bolded text above, you will see that I took all of what you are saying into account when I did my tally. I actually changed some nays to yays in that process. I certainly cannot help if some did not return to update their OPs.

Second, taking the count only from the dates after changes were made would leave out any opinions which did not change. That is certainly no more accurate.

Third, I freely stipulate that the data I gathered serves to prove nothing about actual percentages of people with one opinion or another. However, you asserted that the numbers here were “closer than you think,” and having read this and earlier threads on the NPE, I did not believe that was the case. My count proved only that fact.

Last, it was no fun at all to do these tallies, and I kind of wish I hadn’t wasted my time with work that really proves no more than that there are a fair number of people who are still quite unhappy with the NPE. I blame the very mild OCD from which I suffer for motivating me to do it at all. I knew all the while I did it that I would change the mind of no one who actually likes the changes. I can likewise say that the multitude of posts you have made here will pretty much change the mind of no one who is against them. So, though I made this post about a different issue, I will leave this here again, because I feel it bears repeating:

All of us who dislike the change have lost something that we had before. Something that can’t be quantified by how much time or effort an achievement takes to complete. I’m 100% certain that all of the arguments by those who prefer the current system won’t give that back.

The new system limits options in order to make it mandatory that you leave your comfort zone if you want the daily AP.

Yep. That’s exactly why those of us who don’t like it complain about it. It’s one thing to give positive incentive (rewards) to entice people to move to something they would not otherwise do. Purposely limiting the options of those of us who enjoyed doing what we wanted to do while doing our dailies has had the effect of causing resentment for losing that option. That is why even though I have been grudgingly doing dailies other than PvE for completion, I have been spending less time playing once it’s done because I have been forced out of what I enjoyed doing. More and more the changes to this game have become “limiting options” in the form of removing things I had come to enjoy.

Suggestion: Weapon size scaling slider

I think that would be handy for Asura in the opposite direction. I’d love to be able to scale down my Guard’s GS so it isn’t buried in the ground. If it was done, I would hope it wouldn’t change the scale too much in either direction, though.

The point of dailies is to incentivize you to do things you would not otherwise do. The old dailies failed miserably at doing that since they were basically automatic, that’s why they were changed.

Since there were a number of different versions of dailies since launch, and considering the way the last system worked, can anyone link a statement by Anet on the above point? I’ve seen this assertion made many times by players, but never by Anet.

The difference between, “can’t,” and, “won’t,” is pretty significant.

Should change title to “won’t” instead of “can’t”

+1

I totally agree with all this as they are certainly doable, just not as enjoyable as they used to be.

Just dropping by to say that “easy” and “fun” are not synonymous.

Most people choose daily activities based on time to complete so they can get their AP and move on. Very few focus on dailies because of fun. So in context of dailies, quick and easy is definitely the way to go, even if it isn’t “fun”.

I quite agree, and I often have, since the new dailies started, shot straight for the easiest/quickest dailies to get them done. However, to summarize the somewhat long-winded post I left on the dailies feedback thread, I am not having nearly as much fun doing them as I did when I didn’t have to switch game modes to get my dailies.

It’s not about what’s easy, or hard, or even how long it takes. We’ve all got different opinions on that. It’s not unreasonable, however, for someone to say they don’t like some modes of gameplay – one would think most people know themselves well enough to say how they’d like to spend their happy fun time, however much of it they have.

The daily system no longer provides the choice in modes it used to, and that is the cold, hard fact of the matter.

This is more concise.

Edit: Fun is obviously subjective.
