You been trolled bro.
You just lost the famous last words. Get some real arguments next time, providing more spear concepts doesn’t put the topic off the table.
I didn’t want to jump into this topic… The trailer shows Rytlock wielding a staff in melee combat, watch it frame by frame and that is obvious. However, I found something very important… Rytlock has a Lionguard Polearm in his office in the black Citidel
If you interact with that polearm, you will notice the following, also found @ this wiki link:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lionguard_Polearm
“The polearm has seen a lot of action, but there’s a thick layer of dust on it.
—> Examine the weapon more closely.
Beneath the dust, there is a small inscription: “To the Winners of the 1320 Wintersday Tournament: Destiny’s Edge. Last contestants standing: Rytlock Brimstone & Garm the wolf.”"
So what we can see here is a polearm won by Rytlock, and frequently used by Rytlock. Now Rytlock comes back into action with a new profession, and would it surprise you if I said that dust is soon to be blown away? Guys this is proof Rytlock is proficient with that exact weapon and has been for a very long time. Wouldn’t now be the right time to put that experience into good use?
Alright, so I just wanted to mess up the idea that the polearm in the trailer was a reskinned hammer. So, I took a screenshot off of a youtube video that showed this picture decently. The sylvari next to Rytlock has a hammer on her back, but her hammer is stowed in the opposite direction from Rytlock’s polearm. Now, I don’t know if all charr hammers are stowed in that direction because I don’t have any charr to compare that with, but if this isn’t the case, then wouldn’t it be pretty weird that he has it stowed the other way around?
Afaik, all hammers put away has the “head” on the left shoulder, so that guy to the left in your picture is really suspicious. Btw, is it just me or is that “hammer” looking a little too sharp?
I do not care if the T-shirt was made for GW1, the point is he wore it now. Also a lot of you should read my post about the “line” you are denying to be part of a spear, it is in this thread and I explain exactly why it doesn’t point exactly towards the blade.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/
See that warrior with a 2h axe? Axes are already in the game, adding it two handed wouldn’t officially add a “new” weapon if you count an “axe” as exactly that, an axe.
Saw that guardian and warrior with spears underwater? Spears would not be a new weapon either, be it on land, 1h or 2h.
As much as spears are polearms, scepters are staffs. If you were to keep something hidden for a little while longer, wouldn’t you dodge such a vague question as to if polearms are to be added or not by simply saying no? It is a matter of definition and all doors are still open, yet subject to closure. I am not confirming one or the other, my point has always been that although we are not 100% sure if it is true or not, there is yet a chance.
Moldur, if you are just hearing things, then I am too. I’m pretty sure there really is a “Cantha”-like whisper over there!
Cantha confirmed in HoT… or NOT :P
Glad to hear that
No Cantha in HoT though
It’s just a matter that GW2’s entire story plot line revolves around the Elder Dragons and not a one of them is located in or around Cantha.
Bubbles
(Cantha is certainly not in HoT, but maybe a part of their long-term plan, we know that the core story we are seeing right now were primarily written before the release of the game and the preparation foundations for the story date back all the way into GW1.)
(edited by Moldur.6275)
All right, I got hold of the pictures of the shirt. It’s spread out on a towel on my bed, I cropped it down to just the image. The back side has the left sleeve folded over to show the text on the sleeve hem.
Thank you. That is a spear
(see his picture above)
There have been multiple interviews in which Colin stated that no new weapons are coming.
What if I told you: they are already in the game. Under water. When Colin talks about no new weapons coming to the game, he is being completely honest, he do not lie. But, he do preserve the secret until they are comfortable with revealing it.
You see if you look at the facts, making under-water spears available on land will do just that. It won’t be different as to rangers getting staffs. It will be an amphibian of a current, not a new weapon. He said no new weapons, no land spears, no polearms. So no, they aren’t bringing it on land.
Where did he say “no land spears”?
It does sound like someone whispering Cantha, but it was probably complete accident generated by the various effects going on in that scene.
Thank you for being the first person actually listening to the whispering sound and not just blaming me to be crazy lol! I agree that it might be an accident, but we can all agree that is is a whisper there and I do strongly believe Cantha is a possible word: the whispering starts with a consonant, then an A vocal, then more consonant sound, and then an ending A vocal. That was the reason I suggested Cantha, because it matches that description (I couldn’t find any other “relevant” words that did right now).
That isn’t a haft, it’s just a line. Not only is it coming out at a different angle it’s curved. It is not representative of anything except the art style that ANet artists have always used. The sword handle does not go beyond the hand holding it. It’s not a long shafted sword, it’s not a spear, it’s just an ordinary sword.
Don’t watch it in the tiny embedded video. Open it in YouTube, expand it to full screen and look at it objectively. It’s not a spear.
If you look at the video in 1080p, and take into considerating that it is a T-shirt, we can conclude two things:
1. T-shirts with prints are usually made with one colour on the fabric and then another on the print. Here we can see how Colin has a black T-shirt with white print. The result is that there is two available colours: black and white, no noticeable shades. So when the print are given depth, they varies black and white to create shades. That is exactly what we are seeing here with the “bent” end of the spear-shaft. Where the bend starts, the white spear receives a black bowing overlay to provide visual depth. Ending T-shirt essay and moving on.
2. —> It is most likely a spear.
Now I am not saying that acts as confirmation for my speculation, but I do conclude it to be in the topics favour.
i guess we will have to unlock revenant in jungle somewhere first .then revenant will get his own personal mission ,some could be in new zone some will be legend collection across old maps .
No we won’t “unlock” it in the jungle. That would force new players of the game to create another character before even being able to start as a revenant. Also having it in the jungle would require a lvl 80..
They said no new weapons, but spear is already in game.
They said no polearms, but the language officially used in game is “spear”. Yes spears are a type of polearms, but you can bring into question why Colin would specifically use a word by which spears are never referred to, and are not recognized as in GW2 at all.Furthermore, we got this information from a semi-formal, off the cuffs interview from an after party. Anyone who was around during GW2 pre-launch (or any other game for that matter) knows that that’s not the greatest source of information. It’s not officially reviewed information released by the company, and is subject to things like misphrasing, misunderstanding, misquoting, lack of context, etc. It wouldn’t be the first time information from such an interview ended up being wrong.
All in all, I think the chances that we get land-spears in HoT is really low at this point. But the chance does still exists.
thats really the only sensible way to look at it, i agree.
Yes. Also people just google “polearm”. That is a 2h halberd-like weapon, it is not the ranged weapon we see in the underwater spear.
And for those who stated earlier that Colin warned the art team of having spears in the cinematic: BP, I think the Game Director has the authority to cancel that if it was not an intended hint.
Anet gave us GW2 and we paid for that. Anything added to the game beyond that is completely optional from Anets side, they don’t have to add anything at all if they don’t feel like doing so. But from release until today, Anet has given us a huge volume of content considering it’s free, they were not forced to add any of that.
When they now 2 ½ years later come to a point when we have to pay for a big content release, after getting so much for free, I can’t even imagine how someone could whine about the need to pay for it.
If you want the original game? Fine it’s still there, and they have given you more than you have paid for over time. If you want to support their further development? Fine buy the expansion. Don’t expect 300 people to serve you candy for free without them getting something in return forever.
(edited by Moldur.6275)
Basically just like any other class, you create it and then you’re free to do the Personal Story, Living World and HoT. Although that would kinda mess up the time perspective of the revenant in the form of Rytlock getting into tyria after everything building up to HoT, but hey if a profession can call upon GW1 legends and travel through the mists, then surely this class could have been available in Tyria on GW2 release day in a parallell universe from a story perspective point of view.
and water weapons aren’t being converted. No spears.
I am really curious aswell, please provide a link that supports your argument.
I still think the strongest evidence is this mysterious character, (E?!), we see in the ep 8 cinematic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRRfS9Gp0xQ&t=1m16s
standing on top of a ledge, watching the pact fleet shattering into pieces, while wielding a spear. And it is a lot of npcs in that cinematic and the following easter egg one who are using spears I mean come on guys those are major hints, sure if they had spears hung up on some weapon racks that wouldn’t be such a big deal, but this time they are used for combat, and not only once.
(edited by Moldur.6275)
I might be wanting to hear things but just listen carefully to 0:45 in this video :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOUk2y0K2m8&t=0m43s
Am I the only one hearing this voice whispering “Cantha” when Rytlock opens up the golden gate? xD
Although it seems rather unlikely that Cantha is a part of HoT, (if that is indeed what the whisper says, I’m far from sure), it might actually be a hint for the future.
Or is “Cantha” the password to open up the gate, maybe some kind of mastery easter egg, maybe one of those new mastery languages that they said would link to lore (then why Cantha out of all places)? The moment the whispers end the gate gives in for his push. (I just can’t stop thinking about the possible reference to Gandalf saying “Mellon”, opening up the gates of Moria)
Let me know if you hear the same thing or is it just a random whisper of no words at all? xD
So I just saw this interview, and I just want to highlight one thing from it: look at Colin’s shirt, it’s a charr wielding a shield and a SPEAR!
Now, we just need to know one thing: is it the revenant, is it the warrior or is it the guardian? Is it the Paragon specialization?
Is it a new revenant base weapon or is it for a specialization for one of the heavies?
Now you might ask: “but hey they said nothing about new weapon types coming to the game in the PAX presentation (I am aware of under-water spears)?”
And then I will reply: “they also did not mention any details for the specializations coming to a majority of the classes”.
I think that is what we see right here people, and it will be a surprise only time can unfold.
There will be no new weapon types. If there were going to be new types, they would’ve been announced explicitly at PAX. The melee polearm you saw the Revenant use is actually a melee-attack Staff.
There is still the possibility that spears/anything else will be introduced first through the new class specialization, and since they only showed us ranger druid and necro GS so far, any weapon beyond that has the potential of receiving a brand new weapon type (hint hint guardian and warrior spear hint hint).
You built so much lore and goodness in GW1. Have you forgotten that? Yes, yes — building an entirely new continent with the GW2 engine will take much longer than Heart of Thorns presumably will; I expect we’ll get HoT sometime in 2016 while Cantha, assuming it would be announced in place of HoT, would probably take until 2017 or so.
So I’m not demanding we get Cantha right now. All I’m asking is, where is it? Have y’all forgotten it? Scrapped any and all projects?
HoT in 2016? Dude get back on this planet it is coming this spring probably.
It is account bound.
Is the symbol a “perfect match” or just similar?
Anyway I think it is a nice observation, iirc the cliffside fractal is the one where we release the Abaddon statue? Maybe that is the link to the new revenant, who could call upon the powers of Abaddon primarily among others.
Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Moldur.6275
I’ll be happier the more I need to pay, because with a high price comes great content.
And even for what might seem like a lot of money to some of you, compare the price to the amount of entertainment hours you get. Then compare it to what you pay for a visit to the cinema for 2 hours. 60€ for an expansion (guessing) would be really cheap in that regard. Just divide what you bought the original game for with your in-game played time /age, and you will all of a sudden find whatever price tag they put on HoT to be really cheap and worth it.
It would be very dumb to just look to the number of maps, look at the size and content in total instead. 3 huge maps could be bigger than 10 small.
This spring 90% sure.
We don't want to upset the class "balance"..
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Moldur.6275
All I know is that the only real expansion to Guild Wars 1, Eye of the North, did not come with any character slots. So I don’t know if we can expect that from HoT.
Furthermore Eye of the North did not feature a new class. Argument invalid.
completely disagree.
Living story has always been less then 20 people working on it and Anet since launch had more then 350 people working on the game. They may have originally planned to release everything through LS sure but regardless they’ve been working on this content since day 1.
This isnt some last minute lets try to save a sinking ship manouver. Anyone who’s been on the forum knows how vocal people were asking Anet to create an expansion. An expansion means 100 – 200 million dollars for them, frankly dont understand how they even considered not doing an expansion at any point
anyhow going back to failure and such. Living story hasnt failed, living story is the most amazing idea they could ever get. It took them 2 years and 1/2 to develop the expansion. 20 people extra working on the expansion may have reduced that to 2 years perhaps? imagine 2 years with no substantial content updates? I love the game but even I would have gotten bored but with the Living story? always something new to do while we wait for the xpac to hit.. that’s like perfect if you ask me as far from a failure as you can get.
Besides this isnt some U-turn they never said thats it we’re never going to do LS again from now on its just going to be expansions. LS is a tool they’re employing to achieve 2 goals.
1. keep players busy while they develop an expansion
2. setup the story and change the world gradually to fit the narrative of the expansion.
You are right. When GW2 released, Anet probably begun developing the content towards HoT right away.
But, I think the initial plan was to release the HoT content through Living World.
With the content in development, they could easily adapt it to fit whatever model they planned for the future, which we can now see has resulted in the Living World building up to the HoT expansion so far.
An example: when they decided to start developing the guild halls, I think they focused primarily on the development itself, because in the end releasing it through Living World or the HoT expansion, could both be done easily.
(edited by Moldur.6275)
When is the Tengu going to be released. In a living world update after/before Heart of Thorns or in the next expansion?
Tengu is impossible to release to the current story campaign, any attempt to do so would be a waste of resources and would probably result in failure.
So many people suggesting Q3 because you read it from that korean investment company, they suck and will always do, get new arguments for the release date or simply agree with it being for this spring.
Argument: Anet’s policy to announce content in a nearly finished state.
No one on the forums was even close to guessing this class beforehand, if someone can prove me wrong please link.
“I’d like to see a profession that uses spirit magic. I’m no lore nut, so correct if I’m wrong, but Tyria’s oldest form of magic (and the only one not governed by the Bloodstone) is spirit magic, or the type of magic practiced by Ritualists. I’d like to see a heavy armor profession added to the game, but I feel such a profession would be too close to the Guardian if it wore heavy armor.”
What you wrote about back then was a heavy armour ritualist. Seen atleast 100 times on this forums. That is not the revenant. I am talking about the inspiration from old gw legends, not seen before.
Just because Anet adds a new class it doesn’t mean it will automatically be the “not-added-so-far-gw1-class”. Srsly ppl think outside the box, sure Revenant was inspired by the ritualist and maybe even dervish and her mother but it is NOT one of those 2.0. It is a new concept with new mechanics and a new theme, 2 ½ years has developed innovation, not recreation.
we already have 3 of them,i d like to see other weapon get same machanics as eternity but i dont want more gs.its gonna be really expensive for someone just crafted eternity
Selfish post. Basically all three legendary greatswords atm are the same with different dyes, if you craft eternity you only have yourself to blame. New legendary greatswords will be added for sure and I support that.
What was *not* anounced for the new expansion
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Moldur.6275
Spear (new weapon) will probably be announced along with the guardian and/or warrior specialisations.
There won’t be a Living Story season between now and the expansion.
Which may point out that the expansion is coming soon in which case we are talking about a date after summer.Until then there will probably be a feature pack and other additions.
You think after summer is soon?…Spring is soon.
No tengu? Well, no point for me to return to this game then.
We will do great without you.
(edited by Moldur.6275)
Asura master race.
My bet: this spring.
If they get the physics right for the gliders, it will be epic.
They will introduce new legendaries and precursors – the demand for the old ones will be lower – prises will drop.
The quest chain precursors will most likely be account bound, to prevent the price drop.
Well done ANET! <3
… Not really at all. lol
Nah its a lot alike. They both call upon souls of undead and demons to make use of their skills, aka a transformation in GW2 terms.
Both heavy armor. Rytlock as the example in both. Lol. I predicted it well
Stop taking the credit for Anets class please, your prediction is not even close.
So Anet announced this new class specialization thing coming for HoT today @ PAX, but they said that it was a change for PvE. Does this mean that the ranger-druid, necro-GS etc. are not going to be useable in WvW or sPvP? Or am I remembering wrong?
Now seems like a good time to say:
I told you so
To all of those who kept on wishing for a new race when I said it was an impossible addition:
I told you so
NcSoft said in their report that there will be an expansion 2015 and it will not be free.
NcSoft did not say this.
Yes they did say it. Have you seen the report?
http://www.kdbdw.com/bbs/download/192028.pdf?attachmentId=192028“Also, in 2015, NCsoft is expected to roll out an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2, which
has sold more than 3mn copies since its release in 2012 in the US and Europe. We
assumed in our 2015 earnings estimates Guild Wars 2 expansion pack sales of around
2mn copies (US$50 per copy), and note that the expansion packs for Guild Wars 1 have
sold almost as much as the original game in the year of their release.”Do you honestly think NCsoft would write about themselves in third person?
Btw have a look at that url you posted. Kdbdw doesn’t have a quaggan to do with NCsoft, they are just analytics who have tried to be like “omg we were so right about this expansion date” for the past years now. Every year they’re sooooo sure it will arrive, yet they end up being wrong over and over again, until when we finally have one, and they manage to fool you into thinking their annual predictions were accurate.
Source criticism, you’re welcome.I also think that while NCSoft may want to release an expansion, it really comes down to what Anet wants to do. NCSoft may be the parent company of Anet, and Anet is basically just contractors for NCSoft, I am sure that it is part of Anets contract that Anet has a large say as to how the game is developed and run. IIRC early in 2013 NCSoft stated an expansion was in the works, and on the way, but Anet came forward and said “No there isn’t. Sorry for the confusion.”
If this is the case, then NCSofts predictions for an increase in revenue from more sales may be based on their desire for a traditional expansion, but those same predictions may not even be based on what Anet is actually doing, and the upcoming announcment.
IT IS NOT NCSOFTS PREDICTIONS FOR QUAGGANS SAKE IT IS A KOREAN ANALYTICS COMPANY WHO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING WHATSOEVER.
HoT expansion announcement today had nothing to do with those “predictions”, it is the annual prediction bullkitten that today happened to be confirmed

__________Boons & Conditions__________
Chronomancers have access to a unique boon and condition,
The boon being Acceleration, which speeds up their movements, attack speed, ability recharges and endurance regeneration.
Their condition being Tardiness, which slows down the movement, attack speed, ability recharges and endurance regeneration speed of foes. When a character is under the influence of Acceleration, all its animations will appear faster too. Vice versa with Tardiness.
I see what you did there. Merge stuff already in the game and call it new.
1. Acceleration you speak of = swiftness, quickness, vigor.
2. Tardiness you speak of = cripple, chill, weakness.
Not new.I invite you whole heartily to create a new boon and condition that is completely and utterly new. Also relate it to the Chronomancer, if you’re that good!
Why would I create new ones when there are those providing the sought effect in the present?
Btw this whole chronomancer time mage concept is believed by many to be the profession specialization given to mesmers in HoT, as it is slightly hinted for in the new HoT PAX expansion trailer.
Revenant channel the power of great legends from Guild wars past and use those to help power its abilities.. King Jalis Ironhammer is one of the legends Revenant will be able to channel and Jalis’s dwarf abilities will be available to you when you channel him. The demon Mallyx buried at the heart of the Domain of Anguish is another legend that Revenant can channel to use the power of conditions to defeat their enemies.
From Dulfy..Controling conditions..thats souund nasty. On the other hand i wonder i they will have weapon swap? Ele – light, doesnt have swap, so does engi – medium.
Sounds very similar to my Reaper class idea, what you think?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-Soldier-Class-Reaper/page/2#post4725022
Similarity: heavy armour.
No Similarity: everything else, especially 90% of your page being a re-skinned melee necro makeover.
No one on the forums was even close to guessing this class beforehand, if someone can prove me wrong please link.

I told you so
