Yes. Down to around 15-20, and nothing I change makes a difference. I run most settings on medium, a few things like view distance and textures on ultra. 25-30 is normal. Even setting everything to low barely gave me 4 additional fps to run between 18-22. It is in that borderline “i don’t know if I really want to play it like this” range.
Anyone else noticed you run slower when FoV is set to minimum?
Changing the field of view alters the “size” of the game world, visually, in relation to you. It is an optical ilusion, as the size doesn’t change. Due to this change in perspective, your character’s movement through the game world will appear to be faster, or slower, depending on the FOV you set.
Nothing actually changes though.
A lot of shooter games abuse this illusion when sprinting with a character, changing the FOV so that it “feels” like you are running much faster, when the reality is you are hardly moving any faster at all.
The charr uses the same camera than norn.
Explanation: if I 1st-person-view from my charr, the “camera height” is not the eyes, but this horns.
This is very frustrating, because if I approach another charr, I can’t look at him right in the eyes, but to his mane, like if I were a norn (who has slightly higher eye height).
Could this be fixed or addressed?
On top of this, I would add more notches to the vertical adjustement, because horizontally you can move a lot, but vertically, you can barely move it.
The “Character height” option seems to be generic for each race. Norns are complaining that their view is in their chest, but my Norn has the smallest height available and it is well above her head.
Although I still think most of the complaints at this point in game are people not realizing there is a character height option. Personally I am very happy there is a generic option for all races, so that I can play across alts without having to constantly adjust my spacial reasoning in relation to gameplay elements.
Honestly… people will complain about anything.
This is a MASSIVE fix to teleporting issues that have existed since launch, and you are upsed because you can’t hack through walls “for RP purposes (wink wink).”
Yeah, no.
You want to ask that those secret rooms be opened for everyone, go right ahead. Don’t ask for a roll back on an exploit fix so you can continue to access locked content that other people can’t. Why would anyone even take that request seriously?
Whatever the reasoning is, there is a reason it’s closed. Primarily its just leftovers because of a large number of things that were scrapped before launch.
Loving it so far!
Many jumping puzzles shall be done this day.
I did seem to take a framerate hit with the new patch. I never had stellar fps anyway, so its hard to tell.
This convenience was already added with the mere existence of skill point scrolls in the first place. Post 80 characters get far more scrolls than they earn of their own points. Seems I get more than 50 a week.
Additionally, the mastery systems is going to take the place of earning skill points, meaning post 80 characters in the future will not have excess skill points to bother with. Skill point scrolls will be the only method of getting SP beyond the level cap.
Anything that you purchase with skill points is account bound, so you can already use those excess points for any character as is.
Three reasons this would be completely unnecessary.
You would have better luck asking for Skill Points to be made account bound. They did it with karma, and with the existence of the scrolls as is, it is virtually meaningless to keep them character bound at this point in time. I can easily get enough scrolls in a week to unlock all skills on a new character. Soul bound points no longer makes much sense when it can be bypassed so easily.
Or they could just not bring it back at all, ever. Please.
Or, you could just not play it if they do.
So from what I gather, it really doesn’t matter for us starters? thanks oh so very much for the info guys <3
As @Inculpatus cedo said, you CAN transfer for free if you delete all of your characters.
While this is not an option for a long term account, it is something a new account can easily consider for situations just like this.
With that many of you playing it is very likely you will want to participate in wvw together at some point, which is where server does matter. If you have no intention at all of doing server v sever pvp, arena pvp is still game wide, then there is no need to bother.
As far as this particular boss is concerned, it is also rather immune to damage if you don’t have the buff, as well (if not, it could easily have been made that way). So it seems to me illusions, pets and minions could stand there and hit him all day long, and you would still need the buff to be able to damage him. So making them immune to the aoe field would only make the classes viable, it would not allow you to kitten the fight.
My ranger I had to keep my pet heeled to do it, my necro I had to switch to a well build, when I had just switched to a minion build to try and take down the boss before. But that is only something you can do with necro, you have no other options for mesmer or ranger.
It wasn’t too terrible on my ranger because I use a quickness burst build with GS. But it still made the fight terrible as I had to micromanage my pet through the entire encounter. Even the little aoe fields would kill it in a second.
“Whats so bad about micromanaging your pet? Isn’t that what you always have to do with a pet class?” Sure, if I was actually fighting with them. Micromanaging them constantly just trying to keep them from dying, when they arte no use in the fight beyond the quickness burst when swapped, is kitten. Yet that is every major encounter in the game.
You do not need to keep them, or anything from the collection. Contrary to such a non intuitive name, collections only require you to get an item, not to keep it. Be sure to sell all those luminescent strings and linings as well, once you have ‘collected’ them.
…
I expect thief, ele and warrior extreme mobility to be nerf by 40%-55%. Again this is a mmo-challenge and fun: not a fps game or not a racing game.
I hope this rumor patch is true because us player is very frustrated of play hide and seek with these class.
Where did you get that from? All I could read from the patchnotes was that teleporting is going to be fixed.
Currently teleporting (shadowsteps from thief, ele flash, etc) is undenieably broken. You target an area where you can walk up to straight away, the circle shows green and instead of teleporting there, you just teleport to where you stood before and the skill goes on cd.
As I understood the patch-notes this is going to be fixed. How the fix is going to look (either turning the circle red instad of green or making the teleport even though there’s a small step in between) remains to be seen. Hopefully the fix will be a bit of both: Making teleports to all locations where you can just walk up to possible and turning the circle red on anything where you can’t go.
I’m hoping it just doesn’t trigger. (If they haven’t fixed it to work flawlessly every time.)
I, and many others, use fast targeting. Even though showing the target as red if the teleport is going to fail would be an improvement, it would not be a solution.
That would actually be very useful.
wow that is a great idea for the morning guild regulars catching coffee!
three people with full nodes would be pretty simple to coordinate once worked out. Maybe 5-7 total if everyone followed a script. That beats farming blades for the time required. Lots of usefulness there.
That isn’t any kind of exploit is it? Seems legit to me, but hey I didn’t understand why they had the great snowflake ban of ’12
Crafting an item and then salvaging that item for a 2 to 1 increase in the materials that went into it? That was quite clearly an exploit and a bug known as item duping, and has been around since some of the first rpg’s.
Getting all the crafting nodes in your home instance is a massive gold sink. It would take a very a long time for even the most coordinated farms to make back that initial investment.
However, I do expect it to get nerfed eventually. Depends on how profitable those node sales on the gemstore are. Because honestly I cannot see any other purpose to waste so much gold or real world money on them. If they make the mining fully account locked, the sales might drop.
Ah sorry I posted my last post as JustTrogdor posted his.
Thats what im worried about, I dont want him to get into trouble for spamming map chat.
Is there anyway he can work it without getting in trouble?
haha it sounds as if its for me, but i only have 1 node in my account lol
He would have to actually “spam” map chat to get in trouble. As in, post the same messages repeatedly over and over. Sure some people might report him for spam, people report guild advertisements all the time. Its meaningless. Anet would not be banning you for spamming for a couple posts in map chat.
Well, uhm…Anet actually.
Maguuma.
Might have different levels/biomes whatever they are calling it, but they never said they were opening up more than the Maguuma area.
Region != Map.
And it is extremely unlikely that the whole Heart of Maguuma is a single map.
In fact they have said MAPS multiple times.
But when asked how many maps, they always side step the question and say things like “Its not about size, its about density” or “This expansion is more about features than content.”
I’m expecting three. Just because two would be stupid (it would only be slighter less bad press than “Latest expansion comes with one new zone?!”) and four could actually be enough to come out and say “There are four new areas!” and try to be proud of it.
Also considering that dry top and silverwastes together are still smaller than even the starting zones, it could be 3 maps giving us less total area than frostgorge.
Just wanted to update that I did about 4 VW fights today, in every single one of them there were people camping / trading the mortars and just afking on the ledge when the weren’t shooting.
I think this type of thing certainly falls into the realm of griefing, seing that they are upleveling the mobs in the area while trying to get hits on the boss.
I’m afraid this and other threads have managed to actually promote the behavior, more than anything. Since it has become much more common very rapidly.
Dunno, but i’ve a feeling, like sab on April First
I will be logging in either way. If its not there, we riot.
Noob question: Why do people like / want SAB so much??
Because it was incredibly fun and challenging and had a great reward system, both internally and in skins. There hasn’t been a single content release to match it since launch, with the possible exception of fractals.
Well the first release this was true. Then it got nerfed with the second release, but that added tribulation which was fun in world 1 (never tried world 2, since it already took so long on normal mode).
While true, and that unnecessary nerf did annoy me, it was still a better reward system than anything to come since, and Trib mode was one guaranteed skin upon completion. Even if one followed a video or a guide, it was still incredibly challenging, with a guaranteed reward at the end that could not be acquired any other way. (I think there was a 1 gold cost in there too.)

Shhh, you’re not helping the situation. You’re attempting to doom everyone here and it’s rude.
I am just pointing out why it isn’t (and shouldn’t be) a priority.
Its just four slots for the bandit crests.
Its just two slots for the geodes.
Its just one slot for the keys.
Its just one slot for the lock picks.
Its just one slot for the nightmare key peices.
Its just one slot for the sand.
It’s just one slot for festival tokens.
(For each and every kitten festival.)Seriously guys, its just a couple slots, not a big deal. There are more important things to worry about than wasting an entire bank for the minimum amount. Its your own fault if you have even more than that.
/s
Agreed, add that all up and it takes like what? 50 spaces maybe?
And they’re all acount bound and cant event put in guild bank.
Its bad enough in its own right, but for those who don’t know, the game launched with eight different dungeons which all had tokens as currency, plus badges of honor. You would always be getting more, and rarely could use all that you had in one go. That was a minimum of nine slots that virtually every player had wasted.
The account wallet exists as a fix for this exact problem. Yet its now worse than it was then, with even more currency tokens.

That’s a really good list. It’s sad that ANet fixes so little that I got used to the bugs and design-flaws and totally lost track of how abundand they are.
Here’s another one:
- Make the first, second and future birthday’s lvl 20 scrolls stackable
No, make them level 40, and level 60 scrolls. Or make them “Gain 20 levels” period. I have enough and don’t want more of the same exact rewards every year.
Goes all the way back to the core design of the game, from the legendaries to the first craftable bronze weapons. 1H weapons have always cost as much as 2H ones.
I would call it a design oversight. But it is so significant, it can’t be. No idea what the actual rational was.
Um…. All of those things are in-game skins, easily acquired from the basic armor sets.
Admittedly not available for every weight class.
I suggest time spent in the wardrobe, rather than looking to the gemstore.
Major:
- Targeting
- separate “Target nearest enemy” (current behaviour – closest anywhere in the sphere around character) and “Target nearest enemy within the screen” (previous behaviour) functions
- option to exclude yellow targets from auto targeting
- displaying and casting targeted AoEs at max range when out of range
- keybind for toggling autotargeting
- option for highly visible cursor
- Camera
- will be partially addressed on March 10
- toggle for right-click camera
- “About Face” not working with right-click camera
- right-click camera auto-disabling after certain skills
- Build templates
- for traits
- and gear
- (almost) confirmed not coming with HoT
- PvE conditions
- removing/increasing condition stacks cap
- fixing weaker conditions overwriting stronger conditions
- conditions affecting structures/direct-damage immune mobs
- Megaservers
- interface for switching Megaserver shards (without LFG)
- queue for joining full worlds
- reserving spot in the world for disconnected players
- retaining event credit for disconnected players
- Instance kicking
- instance owners cannot be kicked; if the instance owner leaves, the status of instance owner is passed to the next person who entered the dungeon after the instance owner
- requiring 3 people and not 2 to kick a party member
- Traits
- will (hopefully) be addressed in HoT
- Non-RNG ways of getting unique rewards
- such as fractal skins/tonic,
- Tequatl’s weapons,
- Wurm armour
- (precursor hunt coming with HoT)
- Skills/mechanics
- separate PvP and PvE skill balancing
- shadowsteps displaying as green and then failing to work but going on full CD, especially on objects like stairs but not limited to
- skills not triggering when button is short-clicked instead of pressed and held
- Bloodlust/Virtue of Justice/other on-kill effects not triggering for mobs which give no XP (especially in LS)
- ground skills share cooldowns with slotted underwater utilities bug
- Inventory
- “Open all” function for containers
- function to salvage all of type (whites/blues etc.) and full stack
- compacting works within specific type bags
- “Deposit” and “Compact” buttons outside the gear icon
- wallet/materials section for geodes/crests/crystals/philosopher’s stones and other currencies
- auto-deposit materials (datamined a couple of months ago)
- auto-accept option for right-side chests
- “Accept all” option for right-side chests/instant splashless accept (like right-click)
- option to auto-consume luck
- use for luck past 300%
- 2-handed weapons filling adjacent slots when switching weapons (i.e. not losing Focus in the middle of inventory when replacing Sword-Focus with Greatsword)
- tying gear sets together
- “Equip in 2nd slot” for trinkets
- Interaction/looting
- auto-loot on kill
- list of interact options instead of a single option when near multiple interactibles (i.e. Banner, Ice Bow, Downed player)
- always prioritising Downed players over Dead players
- TP bugs/features
- hover changes cursor position resulting in price errors
- auto-listing insta-sell items when failed to fill buy request
- sell amount changing to highest buy order instead of max amount
- displaying buy orders instead of sell listings in bag view (which makes this mode useless)
- “Buy [n]” field for vendors
I approve of this.
Going to bump this thread so the developters can see.
This QoL changes is really what this game needed.
I think I would take that list of QoL changes over the expansion…
Time to feed the forum bug.
I dont see any issue here. Seems to be smart and skilful use of the mortar.
At best an exploit, at worst griefing.
I have been playing for a long time but I still not clear about this, dose our character hitbox actually matter? Are my less likely to get hit if I’m Asura instead of Charr?
“Character Hit Box” and “Character Size” are two different things. All players have the same sized hit box.
Slightly larger than a Human sized character.
Much larger than an Asura (constantly running into things I feel I cal walk under.)
Much smaller than a Char (causes lots of camera and clipping issues when you can fit through things half your size.)
Queensdale Map Chat Before NPE

Vet player: Simple answer.
Other Vet Player: More in depth answer.
Another Player: Also, you can do Y.
Yet Another Player: Z is pretty awesome too!
Queensdale Map Chat Post NPE
New PLayer: Why can’t I do X?
Vet Player: Because you aren’t high enough level.
Not sure if anyone else sees this particular inherent flaw.
Actually no, if you look at the math you’ll see how it doesn’t really scale much at all with the plus to healing on many classes
It does. The problem is you’re not looking at the whole picture.
This is regen’s healing power scaling.
130 + (0.125 * Healing Power) per second
Yes, .125 is very low in comparison to some abilities which scale up to at least 1.0 (could be some with higher). But what you’re not taking into consideration is those other abilities don’t fire off every single second. Most of them have cooldowns well in excess of 10 seconds.
Over a 10 second period regeneration does 1300 healing + 1.25 * Healing Power.
Do the same conversion (based on cooldown) for any other healing ability in the game and you see regen’s scales quite well with healing power.
1300 healing over 10 seconds is pretty meaningless in a game where PvE mob autoattacks hit between 4-8k and bosses can hit for up to 12-13k.
Um…. yes… The BASE healing is meaningless for people who do not have healing power…
I will take my 3000 hp every ten seconds (thanks to the heal scaling you are still ignoring) and be very happy.
No it is not an “active” defence against a hit for 4k -6k. It is, however, a very good “passive” defence if I happened to miss a dodge and take one of those hits, so my health is full before I get hit again.
More importantly you are only viewing a single boon, and judging its entire worthiness based on whether that one boon can keep you alive. Noone just runs regen. We all have healing skills too. With warior signet, my warrior procs 400 hp a sec. With regen on top (easy to do perma regen with war) thats 700 hp every second.
My engineer gets 150 a second from a trait, making it 450 hp every second. Plus his Elixer Bomb is just as powerful as a healing spring, allowing him to fully regulate and self heal without even using a heal skill.
My ele gets the 300 hp from regen, on top of 300 hp per spell cast.
Yes, regen is very powerful with healing power. No it’s not so super incredibad op that it works entirely on its own, if it was, THEN it would be broken. Healing and regen are just fine the way it is, people just don’t use it because everyone says its bad, or takes one look at the regen math and fails to calculate all the variables. If you actually try running a healing build, you find it is quite good.
As for pvp, no “passive” heal is not that good against a burst meta. That has nothing to do with the effectiveness of passive healing. Burst is just the antonym to it. (This is a thread about pve though, where passive healing is pretty strong for everyone that uses healing power, and weak for those who don’t."
One could of course also point out that even if you chose to ignore the content there will be a massive influx of people running around with, in the dislikers eyes, silly and immersion breaking weapons everywhere.
The most popular sword looks like a runny watercolor stroke with a handle.
Last month they released a warhorn that roars like a lion.
I run around swinging a bat. The animal kind. And it spits bats.
People kittened off about ‘immersion-breaking weapons’ have no latitude for criticism.
It was a stupid complaint when the box came out too. “Holograms don’t belong in gw2! It’s imersion breaking, its lore breaking, this is a fantasy not a scifi!”
Makes me wonder how many people have not even stepped foot in Rata Sum.
Holograms are freaking everywhere in this game. The Tequatl fight involves a freaking mega laser for crying out loud. Not just a laser, a Mega Laser. Also surrounded by holograms. Asuran tech is almost entirely holograms, including interfaces and gears, spinning, functioning, mechanical gear holograms.
Immersion breaking is not, EVER, a valid argument in this game. Let alone about the super adventure box and related memorabilia.
(edited by Monkey Fritz.9052)
Now matter how many events I do, no matter what lane I have done, I have NEVER seen a mortar shell LAND inside.
Yet there are always people trolling the mortars and firing over the wall. Often times I think it is a multi boxer, using 5+ accounts to score participation for the events.
Just came out of a map that failed because of these people in all three lanes. I asked them why they were wasting their time and one of them replied “Because there is no point tagging mobs.”
…
Its not JUST the mortar abusers, but the other “AFK” players who aren’t actually afk at all. they just don’t feel inclined to participate. In the map I was just on, as we were failing, one of them said “Fine, I’ll come help defend the carrier.” and finally got off the mortar.
Of course all the other afk’s left the map because it was failing.
This pretty much kills my enjoyment of the event. Every time.
North especially can have only 10 people, 5 of them wasting time on the mortar while the rest of us can barely keep the carrier alive. South is always loaded with AFK players who instantly come alive when its time to get loot.
Somehow I feel it has gotten even worse in the last few days. Perhaps this thread giving more people ideas?
Happens to me a lot. No idea what causes it to trigger, but once it happens the inventory will shrink horizontally every time it is opened until I manually re size it. All the way down to just two slots across. Very annoying.
At first I don’t even notice that it shrunk, just everything in my inventory is in the wrong place and it throws me off.
This needs to be addressed actually because I think it’s a very real possibility if the development team doesn’t complete the fleshing out of the combat system by continuing to fix inherent combat issues like condi stacking and support weakness in PVE.
My fear is this: That nothing more will be done to completely flesh out the PVE combat complexity by continuing to add to the complexity of combat in order to put together teams that use a trinity system (in which trinity lite is an option but not required) and instead we’ll see groups of all guardians, warriors, and now revenants in these dungeons and if you aren’t one of those three they’ll kick you at every opportunity.
That’s what I see coming unless major changes continue down the path started with the addition of Taunt in PVE.
Support weakness? I wasn’t aware that aegis, fury, vigor, condi cleanse, protection, reflects, regen and might were weak. Support means many things to different people and in this game support is fine. Remember this game doesn’t have healers so trying to be one won’t work well! Also if you exclude all classes except warrior and guardian from the game currently your group is got a very bad comp. However condi stacking is an issue but I doubt Anet will doing anything about it.
Regen is a pathetically weak boon, you shouldn’t include it there.
Contrary to both of your opinions, regen does scale off of healing power. Your healing power. If regen is weak, its because you aren’t equipping Healing at all. I’m quite happy with my 300+ health a second. And I certainly don’t want it based off the Healing of the caster, otherwise I’d be getting everyone else’s “useless” regens.
This has been an issue since launch, they are especially hard to see in high density fights, or in water like the swamp. When those orange circles were introduced to the game, I assumed they were going to replace the whole system with them.
I still do not understand why the old, red line, sircles are still in the game. (Though they are a little easier to see than they used to be.)
I also wish the rings for the various combo fields had something to differentiate them. They all just have that universal puzzle piece look (if you get really close to tell what its texture actually is) and only the animation of the skill tells what it is. Some are far less obvious than others.
I fail to understand all these posts and the inevitable flood of people saying “Don’t add mounts to gw2!!! It would be such a terrible waste/game breaking/thing i don’t want!!!!”
…. They already have introduced mounts. They are in game. The first one came out right after launch.
All people are asking for is more than three options. For crying out loud, we have a thousand minis and three new finishers every month. They could toss a couple extra mounts on the store and it would never affect any of you.
That said there is no reason the existing, and future mounts, couldn’t have a base +25% speed increase out of combat, in PVE only. Swiftness would still be faster, and it would save people from having to kitten their builds just to have that signet or trait saving them time between events.
Yes, I am sure you would all cry pay to win if it offered an out of combat speed bonus lower than every class has access to. I’m sure it would be seen as an insult to someones grandmother too.
Magic Carpet
Dredge Digger
Riding Broom
Mounts exist. They steal your socks.
@ you other vet players, you are forgetting that the poi’s, vistas and skill points are hidden from new players.
Basically… you are in the tutorial.
Yes it feels linear and scripted…. because you are in the tutorial.
The entire starter zone, from level 1-15 (and really, even all the way to 30 technically) is directed and spaced out progression. For anyone who knows how to actually play a video game, this IS annoying.
It is unfortunate, but simply continue as you have been. You have two options untill level 10.
Do Heart Quests.
we call them that because they are different than other games, simply because you often have multiple different things to do to progress them, killing mobs is only one of those options. Read the text and take the time to talk to the npc, and you will often find several other entertaining things to do to progress it.
Do Events.
Events and Quests are not the same thing. Events are the orange things that appear on the map, involve anything from protect a farm, to helping a shipment get from point a to b, or assisting an assault on enemy forces. They often repeat on a timer, or based on a trigger a player activates. Events are the core of the game, hearts only exist for people who need some form of direction. There are no more hearts in end game zones, only events.
Hearts also offer good gear when completed, and can keep you geared all the way to lvl 80.
At level ten the personal story will start and progression from that point on is better. There are other things as mentioned, like skill points to unlock by fighting a difficult npc, or interacting with hard to reach areas, vistas to find, points of interest to find, all of which offer a good chunk of exp.
Completing all of those and the hearts in a given map is an even bigger chunk of exp.
You’ve barely gotten anywhere, and are just facing the fact that the early game has been dumbed down severely since launch. Most of these things would have been available and obvious right when you started the game, and someone decided that was too much for a new player to handle.
And that hasn’t even touched on jumping puzzles, dungeons, or the TWO completely different forms of PvP.
I use the following setup on all 8 alts:
Starter
Craftsman
Equipment
(Any)
Invisible
I keep anything i use frequently for gameplay in the top row of starter bag. Ie: shovels, bandit keys, lockpicks, extra harvesting tools (if I am not running the toon with my infinites). This leaves the second row to collect junk items automatically, since I have a crafstman and an equipment box.
Personally I find having both the craftsman and equipment is wonderful for keeping things sorted without any intervention from me until one is overflowing.
The fourth bag is any generic bag, 18 or 20 that I have collected over the last few years, and I store any ‘personal’ stuff that can’t be vendered. Tonics, tools, toys, Teleportation Guns. If it can’t be sold, no purpose in wasting space in the invis.
I have one fractal box and found it incredibly annoying. No matter what you do, only accepting a specific rarity isn’t good enough. If they were “Rare or better” that would be awesome. But in general, the three rares I get before my equipment box is full are rarely hard to find, and the entire bag is full several times between exotic drops, so that box is worthless too.
As for your specific issue with changing gear, primarily I handle it manually. Usually swap a 2h for another 2h if possible. My engie I switch between pP/S and riffle often, so I just immediately grab the shield out of the equipment box and put it back in the invis. I have a specific order I keep all the weapons on each toon, so I am particular about putting them back where I want them.
The ONLY other solution is to have the equipment panel and the inventory open at the same time, and get in the habit of unequiping the offhand manually, by dragging it into your invis BEFORE swapping in the 2h. This at least puts every transfer under your control.
I would really like it if there were boxes like the fractal boxes which would accept a set rarity or higher. Have a Rares or better box, or an exotic and better box. And offer them up as Invis options as well. This is pretty common issue I think, its just one that has a simple “get used to it” fix. Would still be nice to see a better implementation.
Though, I am still holding my breath for a ‘toolbelt’ micro inventory to keep a few items at hand at all times, too. Sometimes I like to “Think” I am batman with all my tools and toys, but really start to feel like some hobo with an overflowing grocery cart.

You should consider this as a favor Anet did for you.
After all, you can now witness in game how they look like cheap Styrofoam on any character not standing perfectly still.
I was as excited as anyone for the wings, and was ready to retire my holographic wings after previewing them in the wardrobe. But seeing them ingame on characters running around, they look like absolute garbage.
So thank you, Anet, for this simple tactic which saved me 500 gems of regret.
Seemed more like a brush off than any confirmation….
So, come back to the game sometime next year?
This happens with every new release of remotely interesting new gem store items. There’s been buzz about the wings since last week.
Why don’t people buy gems in advance of the gem store releases and avoid the crazy spike in prices?
Not that I’m complaining, since I’ll time turning some gems into gold with these spikes. I just don’t get why people wait until the last minute then complain when the thing they want is suddenly more expensive in terms of gold.
Part of the reason is simple economics on the Gem side. X amount of existing gems, and newly purchased gems are being used to buy the wings, so there are fewer Gem > Gold conversions, at the same time as a spike in gold > gem conversions.
So its not entirely people waiting till the last minute to buy gems. Though there are a lot of people who don’t keep up with the forums, or play enough to have seen in game chat about it. (“Where did all these stupid wings come from all the sudden?” – random at teq today.)
There are also a number of casuals who only log in on Tuesdays to see what new stuff there is.
Actual Feedback
I like and agree with a lot of the posts for returning to the old system, or ways to completely change the current system.
I also have just as much issue with the system as everyone else, and the ONE and ONLY character I made since the change I powerleveled to 80 in a day because I wanted to completely avoid the new system as much as possible. I USED to love creating new characters because I found this game to be the single most alt friendly mmo I have ever played.
This has been consistently changed for the worse, first with so many daily account locks on content and rewards, then with the massive kitten of the trait system.
But There is a simple solution to the current trait system that would make it so much better without completely reverting it, or replacing it.
Make it so that every trait unlock as it exists in game right now can be unlocked by doing something specific in a dungeon.
Then make it so every single trait can be unlocked by doing a specific jumping puzzle.
Then make it so every single trait can be unlocked by doing a specific event, preferably one with a boss.
Then make it so every single trait can be unlocked by something in wvw.
Then make it so every single trait can be unlocked via a pvp reward track.
The serious flaw in the system is forcing every player to do one specific thing, over and over for every character. The system is so spread out that it is virtually guaranteed that one or more traits WILL kitten off EVERYONE equally. That has been the problem more than anything.
There are many other issues which have been listed in this thread. And they are reasons the changes should be reverted, or the system completely changed. But the system as it is would work great if you could actually do things you enjoyed to unlock all the traits. So take each type of gameplay in the game and make it possible to unlock ALL of the traits via that specific type of gameplay, and people would be a lot happier.
I for one would not hate the system, and by extension now the entire leveling mechanic, nearly so much.
To be honest I dont give a kitten if a bunch of people buy the wings. I know I like them very much and I plan to use them on my elementalist ^^ If a huge amount of other people get them too, good for them
I dont really spend my time looking at other peoples armour or weapons or anything like that, I prefer looking at my own character. Thats just me though!
I’m just going to pretend I am Flash Gordon.
Super Adventure Box.
Heck, at this point I would BUY an expansion which only included the SAB w1 and w2.
HoT won’t be getting a buy from me if there isn’t at least some announcement about SAB return before its release. (If there is at minimum, an announcement, I will buy it with cash, and any expansion or update Anet would ever release for this game. )
I understand the points for, and I would prefer if they were in parts as well. I’d like to even be able to use the outfit, but use my own helm, or gloves, and visa versa. But:
You are forgetting that Outfits do not require transmutation charges to change…. They are inherently more valuable than armor sets for that reason. I often use an outfit on leveling characters since they removed transmutation stones. The things that only worked on level 79 and lower stuff, making them only useful for leveling alts. I would have even more distaste for leveling characters now vs vanilla if I didn’t have a couple outfits to use.
Also, Anet likes making them because they are simpler than producing armor sets. Which means slightly more outfits slightly more often. Though I doubt it is really more than 10% easier, 20% at the most. They still have to be designed for all races and weight classes regardless.
I would prefer they make gem store armor skins free to transmute before ditching the outfits.
