Non-Rep Guild Chat

Monkey Fritz.9052

A lot of players (like me) have multiple Guilds. We love the way the guild system works, letting you switch between them on the go, or per character.

I, for one, would really like to be able to keep track of what’s going on in my different guilds ALL the time.

Say I have a small guild of friends who are only on during a certain time of day, and a larger guild I belong to when those friends aren’t playing. I would like to be able to play with my friends and still communicate with my other guild’s guildies.

Inversely, when half the people who are online in my main guild are repping some other guild, I would still like to be able to communicate with them without having to pm each one.

An option to see (and even talk) to guilds I’m not currently representing would be very nice. I DON’T think it should be available to everyone, but should be added to the guild permissions. That way guild leaders could decide for themselves whether they want their members to participate in guild chat without representing, or only allow commander’s to do so, etc.

Some guilds don’t like multi-guilding, while some guilds actively allow it. Being able to set this in permissions would be preferred.

Then allow individuals to set in their chat panel “Other Guilds” or “Secondary Guild Chat” or some such. Guild chat from guilds you are not currently representing would then appear as a different color and be preceded by that guild’s tag.

Even if I had to represent that guild to be able to reply, that would still be a welcome improvement.
“Ah, no one is on in X guild, but Y guild is getting a group together for WvW, I’ll switch over and join them.”

This would go along way to improving a slowly developing Multi-Guild community.

As I said, making it a guild permission would allow the old mindset, stickler Guilds, to keep their Permanent rep requirement in check, but would offer up even more freedom to those of us who enjoy access to varied communities.

Boss Unique Weapons

Don’t forget Final Rest which drops from <Dev please fill in blank>

Lol on the date of this topic.

Final Rest drops from Shadow behemoth at a rate of between 1 and 3 per event now.

To the topic, there IS a unique weapon for each world boss. That’s where a lot of the “named” exotic weapons in the TP come from. Most of them drop just often enough that they aren’t worth much more than any other random drop, though. So people think since they are only 2-4 gold they aren’t “special.”

Changing server’s drastically unbalanced WvW. Ie: changing servers is bad and they don’t want you to do it unless absolutely necessary.

Guesting allows every conceivable freedom of a world transfer, save for it’s impact on WvW. There is very little reason to abandon a server outside of WvW related concerns (far too many people jumped ship because their server was losing). So it’s a high premium to do so.

There may well have been high server demand involved as well.

Let me just say it again, with fewer words.

As game breaking and unfair as some people seem to think it would be, having the ability to for the Elementalist to switch between two weapon sets when out of combat would be nothing more than convenient.

Thank you for taking the time to read a suggestion.

You’re right that we do have a lot of currencies. We certainly know we could improve the experience here

Just make all currency-like tokens collectibles that can be sent to the bank account, just as you recently did with the Mystic Coins, and I am happy.

~MRA

I agree with this. The only people that would have more than 250 would be stocking them up intentionally.
As it stands, once you have done a dungeon once you will forever have at least 1 token. No matter how much gear you buy, there will always be a surplus left in your inventory or main bank.

The only thing I would ask beyond making them collectible (making them like laurels would kind of over clutter the info at the bottom of your inventory) is allowing you to buy items with them while they are in your bank.

Monkey Fritz.9052

In spite of how utterly game breaking and unfair some people seem to think it would be, I came here to suggest the same as the OP.

The two classes are limited currently to 1 weapon set because of their class mechanics. Get it.

But, most especially for the elle, every other class in the game, has the option of switching from melle to a ranged weapon. Having that ability prior to a battle would be nothing more than convenient.

Whether or not every other class should then have weapon slots for every single weapon they can conceivably use “in order to be fair” is an entirely different suggestion/topic.

The engineer doesn’t really need it any more than any other class. But even though the Elle can pull out a conjured weapon, they are time and charge limited, making them poor substitutes.

I could care less about the “need” for keeping all the weapons for my other classes in their respective inventory. It’s not at all necisary to run with more than your preffered sets. It only bothers me that it is “necessary” to swap on the elle, (Fight Claw of Jormag, or defend a keep in WvW with D/D, anyone?) but by all means consider adding an out of combat tertiary weapon system to all classes. I promise it won’t hurt my feelings.

You could even make tertiary slots cost skill points to unlock.

GW2 F2P model:
- 2 character slots instead of 5 with the possibility of buying more till maximum 5
- 5 out of 8 professions available with no paid option for unlocking the other 3 ( no thief, guardian or necromancer)
- 3 out of 5 races (no humans or norns) with no paid option for unlocking the other 2
- no chat access except the party channel
- no guild joining or creating ability
- no mail sending possibility, just receiving
- limited access to LFG tool when available
- no access to explorable paths in dungeons
- higher taxes for teleporting, TP listing, armor repairs
- option to upgrade to standard and deluxe edition unlocking all the existing options
- prices with 25% higher for the TP gem items
- no WvW access
- limited sPvP access for only 15 matches / day

A simple two week free trial would be better than that. But that won’t happen until the game has been out at least a year. Anything in the realm of trials or limited access is a PR nightmare screaming “Our game is dying, please buy it!”

Since spvp is only one aspect of the game, which is otherwise still selling record numbers, I wouldn’t expect much to happen.

As I understand it sPvP is nowhere near what they intended, it wasn’t “done” when the game shipped. Whenever it gets expanded, expect some heavy PR and in-game promotion.

Racial skills are already disabled in PVP, so there wouldn’t be any balancing issue.

Might even be a simple way of introducing a more dungeon friendly element to some classes. Perhaps purely group buff effects?

BUT, I already regret some chrs joining vigil and whispers because the Priory weapons are so much cooler. It would kinda suck to find out one of my characters was locked out of a skill that would have benefited a build.

Torches / Class Color

The yellow/orange of most torches contrasts the visual style of the Guardian’s blue flame too much. I think the standard torch flame should render the same color, ie: blue.

I understand a number of torches have their own unique flames, like the Sylvari Tier 3 Warden Torch. Leave those as they are. But any standard torch should render blue on the Guardian. I think it would benefit the visual style more.

I don’t play a Mesmer, but perhaps something similar with them? A pink flame. That color being the main reason I don’t play a Mesmer

Just a small touch that would add a lot to the distinction between the class weapons. Even as an Igniter, there is no reason the Torch can’t be powered by the wielder’s magic.

First of all, that’s a pro losing to a noob controlling an OP character.

You’ve lost all your credibility here in these two sentences alone.

You never had any. What “pro” loses to a noob?

Is that what’s happening here? You lose all the time but choose to believe it’s because of “balance” since you are some ultra-pro? There is nothing any noob can do that can’t be countered. You can’t blame class balance because you “don’t want to dodge.”

Not getting hit is the name of the game. Always has been, always will be. It doesn’t matter how “OP” a single attack is if it doesn’t hit anyone.

If you are losing to any class just because you can’t combat them, that is not a reflection on class balance. It’s the balance between the keyboard and the screen. Warriors are EASY prey, they aren’t even on my radar as nothing they do stands out. The only thing they have gong for them is power hits if they glass-cannon and catch someone off guard. Rangers running S/D are far deadlier opponents.
Any toughness build is a deadlier opponent than a glass-cannon.

Glass cannons will forever be the realm of noobs. And the laughingstock of anyone who can avoid the bust and hit back at their squishy pinata selves.

And another guy misses the point. Whenever you compare 2 classes, you should never take the skills of the pilot in account. That’s the golden rule. You can’t just say he can dodge or use whatever skill simply because not everyone thinks alike. Class balancing is about how players of the same skill set is able to utilize the character. When 1 skilled player loses to a noob player simply because the noob player is using a very OP character, it’s obvious that we need some balancing.

Now, when a warrior who’s supposed to be good at melee uses a rifle and beats an engineer who’s supposed to be good at long/mid range fight, isn’t it obvious that we need some balancing?

The point here is that Engineers should be buffed OR warriors should be nerfed in terms of ranged skills. We can’t have another profession outclass us in something that we should thrive.

Wow, you’re so far in left field I don’t know if I can even reach you.

First, I was pointing out that no matter what you do there is always a counter for everything in this game. Just because you don’t use that counter doesn’t make one class weaker than the other. There will always be a skill or combo that your build isn’t set to counter.

Second, I have never seen a skilled player lose to a noob. I’ve seen noobs lose to other noobs and claim it’s because of class imbalance. I’ve seen skilled players lose to people using a skill combo they hadn’t previously encountered before. But skilled players learn from their mistakes and don’t typically fall for the same thing twice.

Third, Skilled players don’t lose to burst! Glass-cannon-ultra-burst-mode is the ultimate noob trick. The second you realize your class has ways to counter bursting, the dodge button first and foremost, bursting becomes that “laughable thing those noobs do.” Of course, you implied not everyone dodges because not everyone thinks alike. Okayyy. Beginning to see what many peoples problem is on this forum.

There’s a tendency to discuss something like killshot while imagining some idiot warrior that just spams it in some predictible fashion. Remember they’re gonna have another weapon set and they can intelligently chain utilities together to make it work. I played around with a build where I would bullrush—riflebutt—killshot before they were able to get off the ground. And the killshot hit for around 9k in spvp. Not saying it makes warriors better than engineers, but it can be used to good effect.

On the same note, with a riffle/net build I can keep him almost perma-imobile and dodge the obvious killshot charge. Doesn’t make engi better than the warrior, doesn’t make me a better player, it make my build vs his build in that instance better. The same set up tends to fail against a good ranger, as his pet harasses me.

Bombs/grenades work miracles against thieves and guardians, but not so well against elementalists. FT/EG works against a minion necro, but not against a well necro. This is where engineers can shine, we can completely change tactics on the fly in ways none of the others can. Even the elementalist’s versatility is a stacked deck, they can’t really change up their game much. If they could choose one weapon for each attunement, maybe, but being stuck with what they get means each weapon set, build has specific things it can and can’t do.

Engineers can build much more flexibility, making the BUILD more important than the class or the skill level. No other class relies so heavily on their skills. For all the other classes the skills are three buttons with three specific uses. For us it’s six buttons with almost limitless combinations of uses.

If the class is a jack of all trades, then so must be the player. I’m a total jack of all trades in life, too. I love being able to change the rules of engagement on the fly, the mere factor of reaction alone is worth it. “He’s just spamming grenades, Get close! Now I can’t move, Condition removal! He did it again? Condition removal! He did it AGAIN?! AOE, how can he drop my conditions so quickly? Heavy attack! Where did he get a shield?”

And that would be a rare long fight, most don’t even live that long.

This is not some matter of “my skillz are better than urz” it’s simply that the class fits me. Some people multitask, some people need to spam. For a multitasker like me, I SUCK at the spam classes. These so-called “teir one classes” are so restricted I can barely do anything competitive with them. Engineer may be “GW2 Hard Modez” for some, but warrior, ranger and Thief are Hard Mode for me. At least competitively.
PVE most every class is just fun to play. I facerolled so many times on my mesmer I deleted him, but otherwise.

No matter the class you play there will always be specific classes and builds you have trouble with. If the number of classes you have trouble with is too high, try a different class for competition. If you find a “Better” class, it may well be the class you were playing just wasn’t for you.

Meanwhile I will continue to play competitively with my engi, because I can barely keep a 2:1 kdr with any other class.

It just requires actual cooperation and coordination with your teammates to be effective. As powerful as individual builds can be, the room for true coordination in this game is exponentially powerful. If I had four decent players to play with on a regular basis I expect we could be quite the force.

1V1’s are almost a cake walk, EXCEPT against a VERY skilled mesmer, as they are STILL the absolutely most ridiculous excuse of a profession. Sorry, but stacking confusion and watching your opponent die is not skill. (Rant).

Simply watch your conditions and pop an elixer when the stack goes up. I have never had issues with confusion as I simply stop attacking and cleanse it. Even all those silly princess dolls people complain about. If you pay any attention to your conditions, you should KNOW when you have stack of confusion on you and work to rid yourself of them. That’s the beauty of stacks, the whole stack goes when you purge the condition.

I can’ believe you missed the point twice. The engineer video and warrior video is about class balance. Put 5 year old kids to pilot the engineer and warrior and teach them to click 1 button and let them fight 1 on 1. It’s quite obvious who’ll win.

The point here is a warrior has to click 1 button while engineers need to put a lot of effort. Hopefully you’d understand now how an engineer needs to sacrifice/put a lot of effort to reach the level of a warrior who simply does nothing but press 1 button.

Engineer dodges, MISS.

Not to mention traits will still save you. Whenever I get bursted out of nowhere, elixer S auto triggers and I have three seconds to to figure out a retaliation or escape. Even an insta kill hit still triggers it, I have actually been left with 0 hp because I got hit so hard with my health already low. Auto triggering traits have been nothing but glitchy kittens in fractals, Elixer S hardly ever triggers, I expect that has a lot to do with the engineer hate in fractals.

But the complaint “This ONE other skill makes our entire class worthless!!!” seems more like a complaint about the Warrior Kill-Shot being overpowered. Since they must be traited glass cannon to do it, and can themselves be killed by virtually anyone sneezing on their keyboard, I don’t see the complaint.

The game is heavily Paper-Rock-Scissors, there will ALWAYS be that “one class” and that “one build” that trumps any one other class/build you can come up with. But ANY build has another class/build which can decimate it. And any of these mythological “Uber-Builds” or “first rate classes” have numerous class/builds that can take them down just as easilly.

You know theives HATE engineers, right? Some guardians, too. As long as they are alone, I have never lost to a guardian. Partly because the class is so unpredictable.

NOT in sPVP, of course, the whole sPVP crowd seems to have this “one build to rule them all” mentality, but that’s exactly why they lose so much, everyone knows exactly what to expect. Seems to really only be a pugging issue, though, in tPVP it is all about team play, if you have a good team your engineer should not be being singled out for a 1v1 anyway. The mechanics of 1v1 fights should never be the determining factor in sPVP or tPVP, if it is, you’re doing it wrong.

Point of kits

in Engineer

Posted by: Monkey Fritz.9052

Monkey Fritz.9052

Other than med kit…what’s the point in kits?

We don’t get two weapon set spots, so it’s not like we’re getting an EXTRA set of five skills, and it takes up a utility skill spot where every class gets a utility skill spot…

It’s like we get 1 less utility skill if we use kits, comparatively to the other classes.

Is there something I’m missing here?

Toolbelt skills.

Warriors get a single adrenaline skill, which must be charged up, that acts as a sixth weapon skill (but has to be recharged on its own, they can’t swap weapons and use it again).

We get a sixth weapon skill available at any given time, and an extra secondary skill for every other skill. All other classes get three skill slots, we get six, plus an extra healing skill. If you only use one kit, then you are only balancing out having a second weapon and STILL get a toolbelt skill as good as many other classes normal skill.
If you compare toolbelt skills only to specific skills of other classes you can always find one that you THINK is better, but on average toolbelt skills are on par with teir 1 and 2 skills of other classes.

On top of that you can cherry pick exactly which skill, from which kit you want to use at any time. All other classes have to make the “switch” knowing they won’t be able to switch back for some time. Even elementalists HAVE to use all four attunements if they want to get anywhere, and every-time they switch out of one attunement, they are risking not being able to get back to it if they need it. We have no such limitations.

I love Engineer because it's not faceroll.

Best quote on the whole kitten forum.

And where are these “good” mesmers? I don’t think they exist. The whole class exists to confuse noobs. They can be great in a dungeon, keeping agro off everyone, if they are good. But they are so squishy, they’re like pinatas, hit them and sparkly stuff comes out.

And I can stop playing my main engi for a week or more, play any of the five alts (no mes or thief, they were boring), come back and be like “Oh, yeah, this is what it’s like to rule the world!”

I totally want to rename my Yoda as The Death Star now.

What to do with these leftover cogs?

in Wintersday

Posted by: Monkey Fritz.9052

Monkey Fritz.9052

I honestly don’t believe we were suppose to get the extra cogs. But, when the chest and the events cheated some players, I believe this action was to fix that situation.

So, at the time, the GM spoke the truth. But, later circumstances required the additional cogs.

Yeah from what I’ve seen we were truly only originally intended to have two of the five minis. The interview before the stop in Lion’s Arch and in-game chatter supported that. That is why the planned compensation was only 200 cogs, for anyone who was hit by diminishing returns the first two stops, and not 250 cogs. Anyone can look at that giant thread about the chest and saw how that turned out so a second compensation was required so that those people who haven’t been able to get their necessary cogs can at least make their two minis.

^ This.

Basically, after the bug they gave out the 200 cogs to ensure EVERYONE could make two minis, but NO ONE could make three.

Then there was ANOTHER bug with the chest, so they had to send out the stuff through the mail.
BUT anyone who had gotten the chest before the fix would have then had enough cogs to make a third mini, while those who did not would still only have enough to make two.

So, to be FAIR they gave out 250, ensuring everyone had an equal chance to make a third.

They basically capitulated on their own intent of only giving us two for the sake of fairness.

The Elementalists complain, the Mesmers complain, the Theives complain. They all have threads about how every patch has been nothing but nerfs for their class, and buffs for every other class.

It’s kinda silly. Especially when I would likely have failed to notice this so called nerf. My wvw k/d ratio is still 5:1 on a bad day. But I’ve always focused on 2-5 and used their down time to use skills and fire off control from the riffle.

Or the fact that there isn’t a single class in WvW world that I even worry about. Actively looking for thieves to “Surprize,” or targeting the strafing mesmer and watching them hit all their panic buttons.
Soloing Guardians, the “2v1 class.”

The fact I can stack 14+ seconds of immobilize, while triggering cripple!

The fact I am constantly switching between riffle, p/p and p/s because they are all so awesome!

Constantly switching around my kits, elixers and turrets for more interesting combos rather than finding that “one combo that works best,” like I do with every other class.

Due to the state of the forum I may have to start posting here every day.

A Question, why are elixirs RNG?

in Engineer

Posted by: Monkey Fritz.9052

Monkey Fritz.9052

You are forgetting these are Toolbelt skills. A Second skill that no one else has, the drawback? RNG. Having TWO Elixer class skills per slot would be way OP. Which is where part of your build choice comes in: do I want the RNG of this elixer, OR would I rather have another attack from a kit or turret?

You still have the main skill which is 100% predictable. As an aside you ALSO get an RNG, which with traits like 409 also have predictable outcomes. I toss elixer’s for 409, and get RNG as a side effect. Adapt to the class, don’t expect the class to adapt to you.

RNG is basically in the Engineer’s in-game description. Some people like it, some people don’t. Some people find warriors bland and boring. It’s all in how you play the class. Which is why every class has three main lines of skills. Some people hate Banners, some people run their warriors purely to use banners.

But I was answering the OP: RNG is there for you to ‘see what you get’ and then utilize it. NOT the other way around.

I have no problem if people want to petition for extended duration on Tossed Elixers. That falls in the realm of a Balance change, which I expect they would listen to and consider. It may even already be on the table, as they have already claimed to be limiting the number of changes per class each update, in spite of how many changes they may have planned.

DESIGN changes, on the other hand, are likely to be ignored out of hand, for numerous reasons.

But I agree it should be removed from sight. I believe the original intention was to give some sort of warning “this player may be tougher than they appear.”
But even then, you are trying to give them an advantage, let them have that advantage secretly.

Picking up turrets needs to cut off 75% of the cooldown (it’s 25% right now iirc) so, for example, a 30 second cooldown picked up becomes 7.5 seconds.

That will make them mobile enough, IMO.

If the cooldown was directly related to their health, that would be awesome. Turret has full health when you pick it up? No CD. 25% health, 75% CD.

That would be a welcome logistical change.

Main point = If you want to roll mobile turrets, roll necro, since that build already exists.

Guardian summons = most DPS (possibly), CAN’T be attacked. Drawback = only last for 20 – 30 seconds.

Mesmer clones = their Main damage, required part of the class, fairly weak, but can be thrown out like candy. Drawback = can only attack one target.

Necro summons = fully mobile, infinite summon time. Drawback = very weak on damage and durability.

Engineer turrets = Immobile, infinite summon time, comparatively powerful. Drawback = Slow firerate, weakest of all the summons.

I agree that they need a buff of some sort to make them truly viable, but only a small one. Maybe a bit more health. Seems like they should be more durable than Necro minions, since the minions have mobility.

Still, if they could be ground targeted, and always attacked your target first, they would be infinitely more useful as is.

A Question, why are elixirs RNG?

So engi is forced to adapt to what rng gave him.

BINGO! This is why the RNG exists. If it doesn’t fit your play style, don’t build for elixers.

I heard you like Sigils.

I thought I would like the sigil of rage I already had on my riffle, but I have yet to notice it triggering with the grenade kit. It’s long cooldown is kind of a drag, too. When swaping to the riffle for a few pot shots, it triggering every once in a while is great. But I don’t know. I think corruption is a good idea, especially for p/p.

Don’t know what to stack with it though.

I used to bomb kit for a long time: find melee mobs, run in a circle, laugh maniacally.

In what way?
In how to play a grenade kit without limiting your movement? I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what I just spelled out for the op.

Same build as before.

Place your curser in the center of your screen, hold down the right mouse button, now press 1 so the nade target comes up (if you have enables autocast, disable it) now move around and “aim” with the mouse. Get adjusted to ‘looking up’ to aim further away, and ‘looking down’ to aim closer.

Double tap your nade skills to “fire” and play as a third person shooter. Your nade kit just became %100 more powerful. You may soon understand why they nerfed it.

Since when do sigils add 30% of damage?

They nerfed the 1 skill, sigils will still apply to the other four. Think sigil of rage for comparison. Bloodlust may be super common for lower level pve, but it is far from the “best” sigil. Even so, apply those 25 stacks of power to the remaining four skills. The 1 skill always seemed to out dps them anyway, which is counter intuitive to every other weapon/class in the game.

To developers: What we pay for versatility

I don’t understand all the complaints about engis myself. My Engi has been my main since launch, and I outlast pretty much everyone. An engi built for survival is a force to be reckoned with. A net build for PvP can stack over 15 seconds of immobilize. Though even I hate being grouped with other engis, because they do nothing but faceplant all day long. First time I group with another engi, I thought we were going to rule the world, not that I would be reviving him every few seconds.

I constantly joke about how OP the nade kit is (when used properly) and it’s always been a point of serious jealousy among the other classes I play with. I can’t say I’m happy about any nerf, but at least it’s only the 1 skill, which was so crazy OP it out damaged the other four.

As for useless traits, there is only one, the timed mines which don’t do anything. Otherwise every trait has its use, if you have traits that are “useless” to you: re-trait.

I have sigil of rage on my riffle, now applied to nade kit I would be crazy OP if they hadn’t nerfed skill 1. It’s nothing to kitten about. I run six alts, deleted two I didn’t like, and Engi is still THE most versatile. There are so many build options available, every trait makes far more of an impact than other classes where its more “well, duh, I won’t be able to play without that one.”

If your engi sucks…. play another class.
I can’t play mesmer for beans. They run around noob rolling in wvw and so everyone cries OP. Instead, look for the one not standing still, or not firing at you, and kill them in a matter of seconds because they are so weak.

Elementalists are crazy powerful, but take a lot of micromanaging to stay alive. I love vids online of people rolling through their atunement and sending out skills in near perfect synchronization for combos I never even thought of.

All the classes are built for specific styles of play, engi is no different. If you feel they are underpowered or any little nerf kills the whole class, try something else. It’s not like you can’t get another toon to 80 in a week or two. Try a necro, they can out survive just about anything. Play a necro after learning to survive as an ele or mes and you will have the skills to roll anything.

EDIT: Also, consider the sigil + FT or EG kit NOW. Talk about OP with the right combos.

What wintersday achievements are attainable?

You only need 12 achievements to get the title. You can pick from any of the 14 new achievements in the special event category and the two monthly achievements. We did this so that if there’s a particular type of content that you’re just really not interested in, you can probably skip that one thing and still get the title.

And for that, you guys are awesome!
