More to the point, how many of those 230 million users were Guild Wars fans?

I find it really really sad that anet posts more on reddit than their own official forums. Like the whole change up with Colin. Really, courtesy trouble to post it in your own official forums?

I love it how they mentioned that posting isn’t a requirement in their company but they always talk about how much they love their game, and yet they don’t love using their own official forms. I wonder if they actually realize people don’t care whether it’s a requirement of their company or not, they send the message that says that reddit is more important than their own official forums. It’s pretty insulting actually.

My problem with the fight is, if you go with friends and you die, but they don’t you get sent to the penalty box, then not only can you not rejoin the fight, you cant even WATCH the fight, so you sit there wondering what’s going on. I have to admit that aspect is really crappy.

They really should either give us some way to rejoin the fight, or don’t have us respawn and at least let us watch the fight from the aspect of our dead, rotting corpses.

Suggestion: Mounts [Merged]

Morfedel.4165

An entire world with no mounts for player NOR NPC’s is just too unrealistic. Every civilization has used them and yet Tyria can’t figure out how to tame a few? How dumb are these inhabitants? I’m sure humans will have a chance against the centaurs if they had mounts. The tactical advantage is obvious and yet the humans don’t have a cavalry?

Suggestion: Release a Black Lion mount in a similar timing as the Black Lion Weapon Skins. Each new release will have 1 new mount. Cost: 1700 gems or equivalent.

First of all this game doesn’t need saving. If it DID, mounts wouldn’t do it.

Second of all, as mentioned by others, mounts do exist in HoT for some enemy npcs.

Third, mounts are not necessary from a game standpoint. so many mechanisms already exist. that being the case, I WILL agree that its a tad unrealistic; humans and others WOULD be using mounts from a story perspective.

From a game mechanics perspective, however, it isn’t necessary.

Hm. Just had a thought. What if mounts were included in the game, but as either a weapon set (“my warrior just equipped the Cavalier elite spec, which allows me to equip the Mounted Lance weapon… a two handed weapon that also assigns me to a mount!”) or, perhaps, an elite skill ("once my cavalier, actives the “Mount Up!” elite skill, I’m mounted until someone breaks my breakbar and forces me to dismount, thus setting my elite skill on recharge") or something like that.

Just an idea. But making it part of the skill set system in some regard and give it some skill-based advantages could possibly work.

But as before, it isn’t necessary.

my favourite part of GW1 was alliance battles and fort aspenwood,
both became graveyards unfortunately so GW1 doesn’t have the appeal it used to.

but meh, i guess i can still fly around as my dragon character!
(gotta love endless combat tonics)

I’ll second this, AB and FA were the two things I still loved about the game. And since they are dead now, no appeal to go back.

I have considered numerous times to go back to improve my HoM points, but its such a grind I just couldnt stand it anymore.

hmmm… converting somebody’s agony to force which allows you to become the avatar of death doesn’t sound necromancish enough? Condition transfering, transforming/ removing boons, chilling, weakening – pure necro job.
Idea of minions is a bit worse than this one from GW1. You just summon them straight from the air, in GW minions required bodies. On the other hand you couldn’t use them in PVP.

I was specifically referring to life stealing mechanics. And the fact you only get lifestealing passively for the most part. :P

Branches everywhere you can climb on: check
Fluorescent grubs on platforms higher above you: check

Conclusion: there must be something up there even if it drives me mad getting there!

Yeah I found the area and started climbing. Ugh, once you get to the platform where everything is well lit, it sure seems obvious where to go. until you start jumping again and everything goes freaking black again! GAH! I got disoriented and lost and had to start over once so far.

Is there anything besides a cat hidden there?

Part of WHICH new map? There are four.

Tangled Depths just below Tangled Descent.

Goes to show you I shouldnt have stopped exploring. I kinda thought I’d found everything, but exploring is so much more dangerous there than in average tyria maps lol

There are torches at the entries to the cave that provide some light. Probably best with two people. One with a permanent torch the other with aoe fields that illuminate distant areas. Whoever put this in the game <3

Not a fan of the first expansion. Unless the new one is equivalent to Nightfall or at least Eye of the North, I won’t be participating. Still regretting purchasing HOT and its four maps.

I’m glad to see someone here who says “I didn’t like it” as opposed to “HoT failed, everyone hates it, and its just terrible.”

See, there are many people, such as myself, who DID like it. I DO appreciate the opinions of those who don’t, and, who, like yourself, express it as an opinion as opposed to a fact. So kudos to you, sir. Tip of the hat.

The core game had 8 profession and several dozen maps. You want another $50-60 out of me? Pony up something comparable, not 4 maps, 1 profession, and 0 character slots.

None of GW1 expansions came out with 8 extra professions. Each had TWO extra professions, and extra skills for the other 6. This one had 1 extra profession, and elite specializations for the other 8. Honestly, I really do believe that, in the long run, it really is comparable, considering the systems involved.

I also think that a lot of HoT revolved around setting up the mechanisms for new systems: elite specializations, masteries, etc. These are things that GW1 did not do, although if you aren’t a fan of masteries, there isn’t much that can be said about that. Me, personally, I LOVE hang gliding.

That being the case, now that masteries and specializations have their mechanisms in place, I think it would be fair to expect more maps.

But as a side note, having played every expansion for GW1, I think the four maps in HoT weren’t unreasonable, because they were far more intricate than the maps for GW1. And with jumping, hang gliding, mushroom travel, and even a little underwater stuff, etc, there is far more to explore. GW1 was just runfesting.

That being said, I will fully admit that this time around I would like to see more pve content; even taking my time to savor the experience, it feels that there could have been a little more.

Also, what is the BS about LS3? How many months has it been since HOT was released and all we’ve seen so far is rehashed content and gliding.

A. They are working on a lot of things, including fixing some things in WVW and HoT that they felt didn’t do what they wanted it to do, in addition to further wings of the raids, and

B. I don’t believe they never said precisely WHEN LS3 was coming, just that it was. I’m willing to admit I could be wrong on that, so if you can find a quote that disproves that, feel free. But even then, you need to remember, sometimes in video games date slip, and some things just can’t or don’t work out. I can’t recall how many times an expected for and well looked for video game or expansion was announced and slipped, sometimes several times, from its expected date. This really is nothing new to the industry, so no one should get all worked up over that – its normal for the industry, and ANET was nowhere near the first to have that happen.

Heck, it even happens with movies, and nongame software, and….

Also – how am I a kitten for giving you advice? What exactly did I do to offend you? Was it that I told you that you need to improve? Is that an insult now?
Nobody insulted you.

“you need to improve.”

If you don’t see how that might sound condescending, I can’t think how to explain it to you. Seriously, people don’t learn these things by osmosis, which is precisely WHY I was here posting in the first place, to ask for advice on the best way to go about it. OP:

In regards to necromancers and good vs evil; necromancy in this game setting isnt necessarily evil. Grimdark is a better definition of them, but evil, not at all. Necromancers all the time in this world are on the side of good.

In fact, there really is no evil vs good choices that the characters make; its civilization vs the forces that would destroy civilization… and the world (queue dramatic sounds here). The story revolves around the Elder Dragons trying to destroy the world, and, so far, out of the six, we can now kill two of them.

In the meantime, though, each race also has an “evil” subculture that each race also has to deal with, and several species hostile to our own.

for example, humans have to deal with bandits, hostile noblemen, centaurs, and, at one point, charr. Charr have to deal with flame legion charr and some humans who oppose the peace treaty. Etc etc.

Essentially its less about good vs evil, and more about Civilization vs Destruction. Its the whole “we must fight together, or fall alone.” So, yeah, you “get” to be a hero/good guy lest you see the world destroyed and all the peoples of the world slain.

But you can be a grimdark one at least, esp if you get your hands on armor and weapon skins that sell the whole grimdark attitude

Except unyielding anguish also torments them

Torment isn’t useful if you don’t have condi damage and it can be used against you by for example using consume conditions. If you are running a condi build then you really shouldn’t engage them they’ll out sustain you, use your resistance against you and use you condis against you.

If I have the trait that lets you generate resistance every time I use a demon stance, they cant keep corrupting that spammably.

Demonic defiance has a 5sec ICD, Scepter AA has none…

So you are basing all of this on the auto attack? I have a mace that torments and poisons during auto attacks. So why does my AA not count and his does?

There is a small difference of about 670 range, condi transfers, condi cleanses and 20k+ HP.

Unyielding anguish leaps 600, frigid blitz has range 900, I can also condi transfer with pulsating pestilence, reduce condi damage by as much as 70%, wash off all condis with my jalis heal, spam resistance faster than he can corrupt it, convert up to 5 condis into boons because I’m using runes of lyssa, etc etc.

How long should we continue this?

You definitely have no idea what you talking about. No need to continue pointless discussion at this point.

admittedly I havent done much pvp with my revenant, so I’ll admit I could be wrong, but the little bit I did it worked fine. Like I said, I’ll do some hardcore stuff with him the next few days to see for myself.

But the math isnt wrong. Everything I said is correct. I can spam resistance. I can strip off condis fast. I know this because I have, in fact, done it before. The only question is whether I can keep up – worst case scenario I lose by a war of attrition.

Pulsating doesnt even transfer condi, it was supposed to copy one stack of all condi on you in 240 radius but its bugged and all it does is apply 3sec torment. That is. I could go on but its waste of time.

If it’s bugged I can’t do anything about that. shrug I hadnt really noticed because I don’t use the trait much. Was going to use it for pvp, but since its bugged guess i’ll switch to something else until they get it fixed.

Good condi rev has a chance at best to win vs average reaper but only if the rng wont bless reaper to strip resistance. If it does then gg wp.

What? That doesn’t seem to be a complete english sentence.

I’ve already beaten reapers and necros with this build. Several times. Like I said, not a lot of matches, but I still did it. I suppose, based on what you are saying, my wins are statistical anomalies. And while I’m tempted to say that sarcastically, I suppose it’s actually possible. A few days of hardcore playing should prove it one way or another.

But so far it’s done well enough for me.

First of all, that’s true, but the resistance has a 2 second duration, so that is 2 out of every 5 seconds; add in Pain Resistance, there is another 2 seconds, which is spammable as long as you can afford the energy, plus vengeful hammers reducing condi damage 20% or the elite reducing it 50%.

Plus I can copy ALL conditions to him every 15 seconds.

Plus also you are basing all of this on the auto attack? I have a mace that torments and poisons during auto attacks. So why does my AA not count and his does?

I think we can keep tit-for-tatting this all day. Proof is in the pudding I suppose, so as I said, I’ll head into the arena with my build and do some hardcore pvping for a few days. I’ll admit I could be wrong. Guess I’ll have to see for sure.

If I have the trait that lets you generate resistance every time I use a demon stance, they cant keep corrupting that spammably. Their skill has a recharge. Mine triggers on EVERY use of a demonic skill, plus Pain Absorption.

Furthermore, I can use Pulsating Pestilence, which granted is nowhere near as good as the old Embrace the Darkness, but I can also use Vengeful Hammers, Rite of the Great Dwarf traited, and the Demon and Jalis healing skills along with some choice traits to greatly mitigate condition damage.

And if i’m not spamming boons, how often is he going to be able to corrupt my 2 second per demon stance resistance boon?

Everyone is running Glint/Shiro or Glint/Mallyx. I run Mallyx/Jalis, and conditions, even heavily stacked, are RARELY an issue for me. furthermore, I don’t stack condis on him at once, it pulses on him. He consumes them, I don’t care, I’ll KEEP adding them on. He can mitigate it, but he can’t stop it.

And by the same token, I can mitigate his, but can’t stop it. Realize, this isn’t theory crafting here, this is a build I use quite a bit…. but I will admit I haven’t done much pvp lately, been doing a ton of fractals and pve, so while I’ve run this build successfully, I haven’t had a lot of matches for awhile so not a lot of solid experience to prove the point.

I just started doing pvp again hardcore two days ago, but been using my mesmer. I’ll switch to Revenant… see if my experiences was exceptions or just more of what will be the same. But the few times I did do it with my own particular revenant build, conditions really weren’t much of a concern for me.

I haven’t done much pvp since HoT came out; I tend to do the new PVE content to death before getting back to pvp. So I’m just now really getting into pvp again.

I Engineer is one of four classes I play a lot, but since I’ve been out of pvp for awhile, I’m not sure how they really stand, but: I just started some pvp seriously as of the last two days, and a guild mate of mine, a revenant, and an engineer dueled themselves to a standstill an entire Stronghold match. Neither could put the other down. The rev had lots of strong healing, and the engineer kept using things like Elixir S.

So basically they spent 15 minutes dueling while the rest of us played. It did sound like a somewhat interesting fight lol.

That is a large part of the problem rev only has one ranged weapon and it has no way of maintaining distance from the necro.

Mallyx unyielding anguish and kite with hammer.

It’s easier to just use sword and precision strike.

Except unyielding anguish also torments them. Plus the unyielding anguish pulses the chilled and torment 5 times. And while it uses considerably more energy, it also doesn’t have a recharge period, and the field lasts 4 seconds, and it’s a dark field which combos with three of the 5 hammer skills, vs 1 of 5 with the sword.

Overall I think the hammer/unyielding anguish is a better combo. But as usual, YMMV.

On top of that you can consider warhorn #5 an active siphon skil due the sheer amount of ticks it can offer whe used with vampiric. I would consider that quite good for active siphoning.

Most of those are passively triggering off of traits, so I disagree with you. I’m talking about skills that have it built in specifically for that purpose.

Compare how life stealing worked in Guild Wars 1 vs Guild Wars 2 and you will see what I’m talking about, they’re completely different

You know, rant on and all that.

I don’t mean my GW2 necro though… I’ve mostly played necromancers in almost every mmo I played, if one was available. My favorite style of builds was the ones using life stealing style effects. The idea of absorbing your strength to strenghten me, weaken you and heal me at the same time, was very appealing.

You can do that, to an extent, here in GW2, but its almost all passive, built in traits. Beforehand, in Everquest as an example, and Guild Wars 1, I used active skills to accomplish, and they were fairly strong. Here, it’s almost all passive and individually weak.

I want my vampiric gaze and vampiric touch kitten!

Ah well. I realize it will almost certainly never change. I was just thinking of my necros of old, and I miss em. I want much more active life siphoning abilities. But I probably won’t get em.

Considering my phantasms in pvp are dying as soon as I summon them before I can even shatter, I really have to disagree with you.

Compared to Reaper, how is this for DPS?

As a side note, I recently read and posted on a thread in the necro forum where they are complaining about how do you beat a mesmer, and MOST of them are saying if its a good mesmer you have an uphill battle and will probably lose.

Considering i’ve seen people here saying the exact same thing in reverse, I was somewhat amused.

PvP: Mesmer is really bad right now. We had 1 single viable build: chronotank. It was op and needed to be nerfed, but Anet decided to nerf it in ways that also nerfed all the other already nonviable builds. The end result is that Mesmer is really bad….. Condie shatter is the only halfway decent build we have left right now, but it gets massacred by reapers and out rotated easily by revenants and thieves.

In my experience, condi shatter did great too. Or at least, it used to; I did VERY well with condi shatter in pvp in the past. However, I haven’t done much pvp since HoT came out, and am really starting to get back into it, and my condi shatter hasn’t done nearly as well. Not sure how much of it is me being a little rusty and how much of it is all the new stuff flying around and change of meta.

Gonna play it a little more and see what happens. But I’m not quite happy with the results so far.

As an unrelated aside, wyverns don’t spit fire at their feet, so you can always be safe from their fields if you’re standing directly under the wyvern.

Well yes and no. They don’t spit at their feet when they are standing still – but they move around, spit more, and fling you back with their wing flaps. I’ve done the whole standing under their belly thing, and it works great… until they shift position, hurricane wing you around, etc etc.

So when I’m talking about builds and such, it’s all post-hot. HoT changed the pvp landscape so substantially that nothing pre-hot has any bearing on current situations. Condie shatter was decent pre-hot. Post-hot bunker meta condie shatter was laughable, now it’s not good, but the best we have.

When they flap, you can still stay under them, just need to make sure you’re just slightly behind their center line.

I’ll try that.

And yeah, I suppose I shouldn’t speak about pvp until I get deeply into it again. I know whats been working for me in pve, and assumed it would all be good in pvp, as I knew what worked for me there.

I know my PVE pretty well overall except raids, but I’m starting from scratch with the pvp. I didn’t think things would change THIS drastically. Should have known better, lol

Ok I haven’t done much pvp or wvw since HoT came out, so I’m playing catchup now, but didn’t they make illusions have 90% damage reduction if not specifically targeted? Or was that just for pve?

95%, but PvE only.

Jesus that explains things. I was wondering if I’d lost my mind doing pvp the last couple days; I hadnt pvped much since HoT came out and I’m just getting back into things, and I was like “wtf why are my phantasms dying so fast!”

PVE only. Thats insane.

I mainly smash buttons and hope that mesmer is bad. If you play necro you really can’t outplay good mesmer no matter how good you are. Necro is just too simple class.

You know what’s so funny? I just left the mesmer forum like 30 seconds ago, where they are talking about how mesmers just might as well give up vs necromancers lol

I’ve barely touched Glint. Or Ventari or Shiro. I run Mallyx/Jallis with a torment condi / CC / tank build and have a lot of fun with it. Of course I’m not doing raids so I cant speak for that, but other content, yeah I have a blast with it. Its great watching people die to pocket raptors, I drop one unyielding anguish and kite away, possibly with Embrace the Darkness on and watch them melt.

Just one example, but yeah. It’s fun for me :P

Morfedel I think that Fay just answered you properly.

Now I’m having fun with my scrapper and learning to master him. Aside, from pvp perpestive, daredevil has a build with an insane cc rotation too. Literaly forcing you to stealth/blink out and try to get out and avoid him next time, less if you are in a favorable situation. I don’t want to put it here to not give them ideas lol. Although talking with some friends and some good thief. I’m sure that they are aware and some are using it like I in my daredevil.

In any case, I’m still here with my fellow mesmers. And I wish that the next balance become more fair in the future, not only for us instead in general. I still use my mesmer, but in pve with guildmates and sometimes wvw although the scrapper out there is a fine thing.

Regards

Well, Fay and I have disagreed before, and that’s fine. In the past I’d have dug in my heels, but I’ll admit I havent kept up with the meta and such since HoT came out, so I won’t argue too strongly about this

But Mesmers themselves are still awesome. What we bring to the table is a lot of options no one else has. Utility. Flexibility. And arguably the best CC build in the game.

I also think they can DPS just fine. Just not top of the line.

I’m agree in the utility and flexibility but not in the CC. Other professions can “chain” CC better than us. Aside, we have some good skills for CC.

Can they? Who and how? realize I’m not calling you out, I’m genuinely curious. I play a few other classes, but not all of them. While I have an 80 on everything, I barely played them since getting them to 80; I do think a few were competitive, but not outshining the mesmer.

So if we’re talking about CC relevant in PvE, then we’re discussing the ability to burn through a large break bar. I just want to clarify that, because any other sort of use for CC in PvE isn’t even remotely important.

I agree. Before breakbars, CC in pve was generally worthless. Now with breakbars, they are more worthy. Especially in HoT; of course that makes it very situational.

Burning through a large breakbar means being able to unload the largest raw quantity of CC possible in a very short time period. The best three skills in the game for this are Mesmer shield 5, revenant staff 5, and engineer slick shoes. I believe that slick shoes is best here, followe by the revenant one and thirdly the Mesmer skill, but they’re all far stronger than any other skills. Venomshare thief gets an honorable mention, but it requires the thief to run a non-optimal dps build, making it questionably usable.

Also Gravity Well, which does some great CC too. And venomshare thieves and slick shoes have to get very close to their target, a very bad thing with, say, some of the wyverns when they lay down their fields.

It’s worth noting that interrupt traits and other cc ‘add-ons’ that Mesmer has access to are worthless here. Getting the chance to proc an interrupt is incredibly rare, so the only thing that matters is breaking the bar as fast as possible. While moa and the stun signet also are hefty CCs (moa in particular), the elite slot is necessarily reserved for time warp, and the signet ends up being overkill since you aren’t requires to break a raid bar solo; it’s a team effort.

If we are talking about team builds then we are talking something like boonshare or chronotank, but that’s fine. Like I said, its situational.

Edit: For PvP, best cc is going to have to be scrapper. They have immense access to both direct and reactive cc from finishers on their skills, and have a lot of huge cc utilities to choose from between slick shoes, battering ram, blast widgety thing, and turret explosions. I’d say mesmers probably come in second for cc potential after engineers, but our cc is a lot more bursty. It’s on long cooldowns and more difficult to recover from if wasted into a stability-laden teamfight.

I suppose I could agree with that. But as I said, each has their good and bad points. For example, I can get alacrity and speed up ALL recharges. Its a tit-for-tat thing.

Where exactly was it proven that mesmers have trash pve dps I would think a mesmer fully buffed with 3 sword phants going would be pretty sweet on top of the fact that they can shatter now without destorying phant dps. Just curious why its always said that mesmer dps is trash still.

I personally don’t think their DPS is trash, but I do think they aren’t a DPS class. What I mean is, if they want to do some dps, they will be ok, but others will outshine them. I remember playing revenant for the first time and was just shocked at how much more damage I was doing.

But Mesmers themselves are still awesome. What we bring to the table is a lot of options no one else has. Utility. Flexibility. And arguably the best CC build in the game.

Wrong on all accounts. The best CC build goes to venomshare thief. The best utility goes towards Engi and Ele. And if you think Mesmer is fine at the bottom of the totem pole in all accounts then I have no words for you.

On all accounts? Really? No. Just no.

First of all I said ARGUABLY. They are near the top if not at the top, so if venomshare is better, ok, they are still excellent stunlocks. And as for engi and ele best utility, have you seen, say, chronotank mesmers with boonshare and permaquickness and alacrity, just to name a few?

Hm, ok. Guess I’ll have to find a video guide on how to get to the four areas.

I have all the movement based traits unlocked, hang gliding, mushroom, etc, so I’m good there. And I’m a mesmer

For the more dangerous areas, I suppose I can trait for a heavy stealth build.

Anyone got a GOOD chrono build?

I can’t see why people keep saying condi shatter is Mesmer’s best option despite Necro being the FoTM.

We were talking what’s best for mesmer, not what’s best condi.

I think he was saying that condi Mesmer isn’t that good since there are so many necros, not that you should just play a necro.

simple rule :

old legendaries -> buy precursor. some cost more to craft than buying direct from TP.

new legendaries -> no option, craft them.

If you don’t want to rush it, the craft option is cheaper for weapons like bifrost.

I suppose that was my concern. Is it cheaper to acquire the crafting items and make it, or buy the precursor outright? Not a gambling man, so don’t feel like risking the mystic toilet.

And since I’m terrible at farming (I get so bored so fast farming for gold I’d rather punch a fork up my nasal pathway), I thought acquiring the crafting materials might be better… but then I have to farm for the crafting materials lol!

I do fractals with 2 fwends…why would I ever bring my mesmer…ever?

A link to the guardian wiki entry proves absolutely nothing.

And as for fractals, really, there is more to the game than fractals. I trash guardians all the time in pvp.
