But Mesmers themselves are still awesome. What we bring to the table is a lot of options no one else has. Utility. Flexibility. And arguably the best CC build in the game.

I also think they can DPS just fine. Just not top of the line.

I’m agree in the utility and flexibility but not in the CC. Other professions can “chain” CC better than us. Aside, we have some good skills for CC.

Can they? Who and how? realize I’m not calling you out, I’m genuinely curious. I play a few other classes, but not all of them. While I have an 80 on everything, I barely played them since getting them to 80; I do think a few were competitive, but not outshining the mesmer.

I can’t see why people keep saying condi shatter is Mesmer’s best option despite Necro being the FoTM.

We were talking what’s best for mesmer, not what’s best condi.

horrendously weak and unplayable. Try a necro instead.

I completely disagree. I have a condi shatter build that does just fine.

But necro probably is better. What I mean is the condi mesmer isn’t crappy. Just not as good as the necro.

But in exchange, we bring some other stuff. F5 for instance. Better crowd control. Illusions that can pull off agro. Stealth. etc etc.

If you want the best condi in the game, dont go mesmer. But if you want decent condi with options that others dont have, condi mesmer can be fun.

Where exactly was it proven that mesmers have trash pve dps I would think a mesmer fully buffed with 3 sword phants going would be pretty sweet on top of the fact that they can shatter now without destorying phant dps. Just curious why its always said that mesmer dps is trash still.

I personally don’t think their DPS is trash, but I do think they aren’t a DPS class. What I mean is, if they want to do some dps, they will be ok, but others will outshine them. I remember playing revenant for the first time and was just shocked at how much more damage I was doing.

But Mesmers themselves are still awesome. What we bring to the table is a lot of options no one else has. Utility. Flexibility. And arguably the best CC build in the game.

Crystalline Ore?

Just how hard are these supposed to be to get? I’ve done DS a few times, and decided to start getting some Runes of Leadership. I looked at the 100 per rune, then looked at how much I had after, oh, 4 runs.

35.

Hm.

At that rate, Iets say I work harder at getting the crystalline ore. Focus on it. Get… 10 per run? I’ll have to do DS 60ish runs total to get the amount I need.

Or is there a faster way to get them I dont know about it? I remember once seeing an area that had a LOT of noxious pods after MoM dies, but I dont recall quite where I saw that.

And how can I do this more… efficiently?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn’t take an interrupt build in PvP. With the stability flying around in the state that it is, you’re not going to be throwing out as many rupts as you think. And Shattered Concentration isn’t going to be enough, either.

I have to agree. I ran my clocklock a couple days ago, and the stabilities/stunbreakers were VERY prevalent. I felt somewhat handicapped. Despite my posting my clocklock build above, the condi shatter is probably a better build for pvp currently.

As for pve, if you are in a breakbar-rich environment, ironically the clocklock actually does better than pvp. Never thought I’d see that lol

Anyone got a GOOD chrono build?

in Mesmer

Morfedel.4165

I have two builds I like to use in pvp:

The first is a clocklock build I like, its also great when fighting lots of creatures with breakbars, such as almost anywhere in HoT lol: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQRAra8encfC1fiNoB2oBEgilTjiMA2ggysF2mboOar2uF-T5ACABD/EAUa/BAOJAAA

I didnt put an amulet in because I’m experimenting with different stats (and also the sigils, sometimes trying out some crit hit sigils instead), but I think precision is important regardless. I also have a variant where I change the second trait line: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQRAra8encfC1fiNoB2oBEgilTjqOar2utsEWhEgMA2ggC-T5ACABD/EAA4kAo0+DAA

Honestly, I think the former is superior to the latter, but I’m still playing around with it. Also, in pvp I sometimes swap out gravity well with signet of humility. It depends. The build has a hard time against anyone running lots of stability/stunbreakers, but otherwise it can lock down targets really well – and as I said, in pve, this thing can break bars like no tomorrow.

My other is a condi shatter, using the fast respawns of illusions to constantly reshatter on the targets: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNArfWncfCVohNoBeqBEgiFWjCN6+pqrOZb2olMBCggD-T5wXABz9EAAY/hOLDAA

For this one, I use runes of perplexity in pve; I’m considering switching to runes of tormenting for pvp. I change the elite a lot to other skills, and use the signets passively for condi improvement (I need to check and see if I’m hitting an upper wall on those durations and such); I had been using sigil of energy for my other sigil on each set, since I dodged a lot using deceptive evasion, but now that I’m using chrono instead, I am looking at several sigils to replace it.

With this condi shatter, the alacrity helps recharge the shatters faster too.

And I got stopped cold by… the low level wood I needed! I salvage pretty kitten near everything, and I have so much high tier stuff I figured i’d be good, so when I started making the spirit planks and such, and suddenly realized… holy crap, I need lots of the LOW level stuff!

Ugh. And it will cost more than I’d like to spend to buy the wood. So, I guess I’ll be farming for a bit. In the meantime, does anyone know of any other gotchas I need to watch out for as I advance?

(BTW, I have just about everything else aside from the precursor; all the gifts, mystic clovers, etc, so thats good, just need the precursor quests to finish this off)

I have both a condi shatter and a stunlock mesmer build that finds chronomancer essential. I also have a phantasmal killer build that doesn’t use chrono.

Chrono is still very strong, even after the nerfhammer – fact is, I think it was TOO good at the time, and Mesmer is my main. So the nerfhammer was perhaps appropriate this time around.

Wow, its a pretty far off in its figures they wanted. This tells me this game isn’t living up to expectation for many people. Its sad but the numbers don’t lie, regardless of building new systems and what not, this was their 1 chance to bring back customers..its extremely hard to come back in this industry if you don’t succeed 2nd try.

Those numbers are speculation from a third party, so they very well could be lying.

Because the hype train got massively derailed, no matter what anyone says the lack of WvW and the push for Esports hurt players who play these formats, PvE was 4 maps.

I personally enjoy HoT, but it was not an expansion, it was paid for DLC, but from reading the blog posts from Anet, it seems they are working on a new expansion, so maybe we will see a full expansion this time.

Also what is hurting is really replay ability on the new maps, I made Nevermore at the weekend and honestly I have no incentive to go back to the HoT maps anymore, ive completed them all 100times over, newer players reading these forums or reading in game, who haven’t bought HoT are really seeing no reason too.

If the last expansion was not full then what will this full expansion cost?

You need to remember a lot of this expansion was setting up new systems: elite specializations, masteries, etc.

Now the backbone of those systems are set up, they will have more time to develop more content. I think we can expect a higher content count next expansion due to this.

Thanks Anet <3

Any feature that has to be selectively disabled in specific places is a feature that should not be implemented.

Game Design 101

Consistency is mandatory.

Either you enable a feature everywhere, or you don’t implement it at all. Selective enabling/disabling is disgusting and is game design failure by definition.

No actually, it’s not at all mandatory. If it was they would not be able to do it. You may not like it but the fact is yes you are severely outnumbered by the people who do want this. When you see people hang gliding everywhere what are going to do, tell them that they’re having badwrongfun?

Fact of the matter is your flat out wrong. I’m sorry to tell you. It doesn’t matter what you think is bad game design , what matters is if the players find its fun and it doesn’t cause any major problem the game, that’s all that really matters. It’s a game, and that’s it.

But as a side note, I loved GW1, EotN, Guild Wars 2, HoT, all of it. There isn’t any gw-based game or expansion I disliked. That doesn’t mean there weren’t elements I disliked, none of it was perfect, but in the grand scheme of things, I felt they were all more good than bad, and all very enjoyable.

For example, in HoT, I love most of the content, but I really don’t like adventures, and I really really don’t like I’m apparently going to have to do all of them to get the HoT mastery points to unlock all the masteries.

…and instead consider giving some different form of traversing the environment.

The world of Core Tyria is much more flat than the HoT areas, and there is truly not many cases where we’ll actually need it. All gliding will do is give players immunity to fall damage, and mess up the mechanics of many jumping puzzles.

I think what upsets the players, isn’t the fact that they cann’t glide in Core Tyria, as much as it’s “not having any traveling mechanic”.
…that, and them falling to their deaths from Divinity’s highroads because they forgot they can’t glide!…

Instead, if you want to give some cool traversing mastery to the old world that badly, consider giving some sort of mount. Sure, it isn’t that useful for actual traveling with the huge amount of waypoints, but you can think of some clever uses for them besides an increase in speed. Then have one mastery for each of the five locations of the Vanila game (Maguma, Hoelbrack, Kryta, Ascalon and Orr), that gives a different mount that fits the theme of that area, and progressing each mastery would unlock more abilities for that mount.

If you want to allow gliding somewhere, consider just the big cities. It’s a cool place for all traveling methods to be available simultaneously regardless of location and expansion.

No, it isn’t going to mess up many jumping puzzles. Perhaps only a couple. Also, they have outright said there will be “No Fly” zones where hang gliding won’t be allowed, so any jps it could mess up will most likely be no fly zones.

They will probably miss a few places in the beginning or have some bugs that will need to be addressed, but otherwise, no, Jumping Puzzles are not going to be screwed up.

And really, hang gliding is just a lot of fun – and a lot more fun than driving a horse would be, for instance.

Sorry, they have already made it clear hang gliding in core tyria is happening, and frankly, I think you are in the minority of people who DON’T want it.

Just the fact that you’re quoting the EotN price at $19.99 makes me question everything else you wrote. Because EotN was not $19.99 when it launched.

In fact, your entire comparison is biased based on say your love for dungeons. There was nothing in EoTN like the metas we have. There was no new character class. There were no real updates to how you played each of the professions you played. There was plenty of grind in the form of leveling up skills.

Yes, it did have dungeons. That’s what it had. And if dungeons weren’t your thing….those zones are not the kind of zones you could repeat long term. Most of them were quite simple. I’d rather have 1 hot zone than 10 of the EoTN zones.

It didn’t do anything for guild halls. It didn’t add anything like gliding which completely changes the game (and yes, gliding is now coming to core Tyria as well).

It feels like a biased comparison to me.

so you’re telling me you have 0 biasim for gw2….you just get hurt when someone tells it how it is.

You dislike grinding but brag about gliding which requires 9 million xp pts ( didn’t include leyline becuase it most likely wont be in reg game)

ohhh geez mate 1 whole new class, how can that compete with the 4 professions from the other two campaigns. The ability to mix skills from other classes easily prevented staleness… but gw2 single new class solved everything….

If mind numbingly folllowing the zerg around for hours each day spaming your 1 skill is considered as " fun" to well good on ya mate.

yes it didn’t do much for guilds because for starters they decided to switch gears to make gw2 as well as they had guilds halls from the start. They also had actual gvg. gw2 didn’t get but two guild halls until this expac also tell me about that gvg scene…..

oh boy error on pricing discredits my view? Your post is a crime aginst humanity than mate but by all means continue to be more hypocritical

snip

what? gw1 campagins were all standalone games. The heck are you on?

Try to remember uw/fow from proph ( although accessed by other campaigns), the deep/urgoz from factions or doa from nf? I’m constantly reminded of those when I do the crap they offer now. How the hell did it fall that far?

You don’t need leyline gliding to glide. I like gliding from even the beginning. But yes, I like the process of unlocking gliding and yes, I don’t grind to do it.

As for bias, I’m a huge Guild Wars 1 fan. So I have no reason to malign the game. But facts need to be reported correctly and other facts need not to be ignored.

It’s a fact that EotN wasn’t $19.99 at launch.

Oh you absolutely need leyline gliding to even begin thinking about gliding didn’t you read that in the earlier post? Mate spending hours doing the same repetitive things for minimal xp is still grinding, it doesn’t matter whether you like doing it or not.

That’s some serious denial mate. Why did your bum get so hurt when I simply pointed out how the hot expac isn’t living up to expectations?

Not living up to WHOSE expectations? Seriously. I love HoT, and the only thing I don’t like about it is needing to do adventures to get the rest of the mastery points I need.

But that’s it. Otherwise I love HoT. and I’m not alone.

So stop presuming to speak for everyone else and just speak for yourself.

are there any new jumping puzzles in HoT?

Yes. One is in Auric Basin, same area as the Golem HP. Ley-line gliding is needed to do some of it. Another is under Rata Novus, the mushroom room. Jump shroom to shroom to get on the ledge high above the HP, then jump shroom to shroom across to the chest for your achievment/mp.

Actually, you can get to the golem hp without ley line gliding. There is an alternate route.

Under Rata Novus? How do you get there?

Troll’s revenge will be renamed in “this was once a hard JP now you just need to glide”

Hang gliders reduce in altitude unless there is an updraft. Generally for jps you have to go up rather than down. Granted there are horizontal spots too, but that required precision jumping, which can actually be screwed up by hang gliding, when you intended to do a small hop and actually fly past your mark. Seen it done. Happened to me.

Obviously in HoT, but the premise is the same. I doubt most jpss, trolls revenge included, will be trivialized unless they put updrafts in.

Comparison: Eye of the North and HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Morfedel.4165

Morfedel.4165

Heart of Thorns is a very lackluster Expansion. When we look back at the original Guild Wars Expansions, we can really see why HoT is an insult to the old playerbase. In this comparison, Heart of Thorns will be on the left, while Eye of the North will be on the right.. We’ll use a ratio(colon) to compare what the Expansions have in common, and include what each Expansion offers that is different from the other.

1. EotN didn’t add any real new systems; HoT did. By that I mean, for example, the mastery system and the elite specialization systems. These weren’t simply additions for this one expansion, but a framework for more expansions to come.

2. These maps are FAR more complex than EotN was. As in, ever. Don’t even kid yourself. YES, there are less maps, and if I were to be honest I wish there were a few more, but you can’t simply compare the mapcount when HoT maps are far more complex, vertical, and intricate. It’s more complicated than that.

3. I’ll be the first one to say HoT isn’t perfect and there were some things I wish were different. But it is nowhere near as bad as you make it sound. Really, there are a lot of people enjoying this “insult” of an expansion. Maybe you need to go teach them how they are having badwrongfun. Heck, I’m enjoying it too. Am I having badwrongfun?

4. But really, why are you even here? I just don’t fathom how people here who talk about how Hot in specific and now GW2 in general sucks so bad… and yet, still you are all here. Me, if I think a game is no longer worthy, you know what I do? I go play a different game. I don’t sit here making sure to post just how much I think the game sucks and how wrong everyone else must be if they disagree with me. You see, I realize that each person is entitled to their opinions, that they may disagree with me, and that’s perfectly ok. If I don’t like it, I just go elsewhere. Simple.

And yet, others, the “black knights” if you will, seem to actually be on some quest to make sure that not only do they have to tell everyone how unhappy they are, but that they have to PROVE that their POV is correct and, if you disagree, you are WRONG. Seriously man, just go play something you enjoy and stop wasting your time here if you are so unhappy. What do you and the other black knights hope to gain with all this shaking of fists in the forums?

I bet if we took a toll to see if HoT failed there are less fan boys than the people that actually know it failed. Which means it failed basically! Now you guys do the math and figure out how many free to play people it takes to keep 1 server running then tell me that the fan boys alone can keep the servers going. Fewer players equals less money equals more server merges and eventually a game of all fan boys saying nothings wrong. Five years later the fan boys are dancing in Lions Arch with barely anyone else playing but they look good LOL. Go to GW1 the fan boys are still dancing in the towns in that game LMAO.

I remember reading someone else saying the same thing. Then I went and read reviews, both from game review publications and from players on places like metacritic. The people who liked it outweighed those who didn’t.

And stop calling people who disagree with you a fanboy just because they disagree with you. The only determination of its success or failure is sales numbers. Since neither of us know those numbers, all you can do is say YOU don’t like it. I don’t go around saying its a success, I just say I like it – albeit with a few elements I’m not too fond of.

After all, everyone is entitled to their opinion… as are you, no matter how wrong you are

See what I did there? Calling people fanboys is doing the exact same thing. Respect other people’s opinions as you would have yours respected.

No joke. If you don’t like the expansion, fine, but it is dishonest to say the expansion offers NOTHING whatsoever.

Its like seeing the metacritic reviews, where almost everyone was rating it either a 10 or a 0 or 1. The expansion clearly has some flaws and isn’t perfect, so I couldn’t in good conscience rate it a 10, but rating it at the very bottom of the scale is basically saying its utterly unplayable, which is just as dishonest. Don’t like it, fine, but these people need to understand that the game is neither perfect nor utterly horrible.

Frankly, I rated it somewhere around a 7-8. I like it, I enjoy it, I think it’s fun, but it isn’t perfect.

I don’t have any incentive to go there. I am better off farming Silverwastes. It is more fun. And all the timer madness is broken and casual unfriendly!

Calling it a failure because YOU and some people you know don’t like it isn’t calling it a failure. Why? Because me and a lot of people I know really like it, a lot.

The only thing that determines if it’s a failure or not is sales numbers. If/when they release those numbers we will know better. But don’t go around making factual declarations of what is clearly nothing more than opinion.

Best to just visit the gallery on the wiki and see what might work. You can pick race, gender, and weight options from the links on the bottom of the page.

That being said, best chance for a Santa look seems to be with light armors, unless you want a Santa that bares his midriff/chest at the children.

Light armor? Think that’s better than medium?

So I have my own santa claus looking character, and I am trying to get the winter’s presence shoulders….

Since he is a warrior, hence heavy armor, and I haven’t seen any heavy armor that accomplishes the look, I have been using one of the winter outfits, works well when dyed correctly.

But I just found out that winter’s presence doesn’t work with outfits. So, is there a way to get the look, some heavy armor I just haven’t seen yet?

As a side note, I suppose I could remake him as an engineer, now that the engineer can use a hammer; it’s important, for the candy cane hammer but I’d rather try and see whether there is any other option first.

Side note #2: if there isn’t a way to do it in heavy armor, what about medium? I’ve seen some heavy armor with fur lining, so maybe something there would work better?

This is a very weird comparison. GW2 has launched one expansion in 3 years, for $50 and half the content is currently disabled, not working, or so bug ridden that you can’t actually progress.

SWTOR on the other hand has launched 4 expansions, all of them free for subscribers and only $15-$20 for non subscribers. They don’t contain nearly as many bugs, all the features actually work, and there is an actual cohesive story.

It’s like comparing a rotten apple to a feast of fresh fruit

You don’t need to look any further than dulfy for the truth. She has published almost twice as many guides, dev communications and class updates for SWTOR as she has for GW2…

Half the content? That is quite a bit of an exaggeration.

New PvP mode…. disabled
PvP Leagues… have to exploit just to advance in a normal manner
WvW maps… wasteland of despair and ruin
Story mission… still bugged and impossible to complete for many people
Balance…. LOL LOL LOL LOL
Guild mission… Rewards are still 50/50

The only two things in this expansion that are working fairly well are the open world PvE maps and the raids. Of course with how little content they provide most players have already finished doing everything on them so they are just grinding out/farming stuff now.

50% was being generous…

that isn’t 50% of the content, not even close. That’s you complaining about a few things you are unhappy about.

All four maps of HoT are packed with content that are working just fine. If 50% wasn’t working, that would include half the maps. But that isn’t the case.

The stronghold and story mode isn’t anywhere near half the content, and while WVW is a wasteland, that doesn’t mean it is broken and nonfunctional, just that no one is playing it, and that’s a difference too.

Yes, there are some things that are nonfunctional. But it isn’t half the content they released. It isn’t even close. That’s just you exaggerating for effect, but it certainly isn’t accurate.

Let’s see: all four HoT maps are functional. WVW maps are functional. Elite specs are functional; revenant is functional.

Seriously, where do you get the 50%? Just say you are unhappy, that’s fine. 50% is a lie.

I get this A LOT no matter which account I play. I can’t just block everyone… I have many times more people on my blocklist than on my friendslist. I hardly play GW2 much because of how I am

1) being stalked
2) verbally abused
3) druid is bad (ok not related).

But please, more ways to deal with this… we can’t even change our account names just for this reason…

Why do I have to go play another game/chat platform just to talk to my friends and other decent people?

A) you can still keep blocking. Block and move on. No big deal.

B) I notice that you whited out all your responses. I find that interesting.

the whited out is the save prompt disclosing my folder name (my real name). I should have just blanked out the name of the folder i guess.

ok, fair enough. Still, blocking is very effective. You can also report. Beyond that, I don’t really see the need for other tools.

I’ll get mine up tonight.

Sadly, my santa is a heavy armor warrior, and that has no real armor that fits the theme, so I had to go with the winters day outfit. But the weapons and other items I think worked well for him.

Just wish I could fit him with the festive hat.

Hey, anyone think ANY of the heavy armor works for a santa character?

Hey!
I just wrote this, cuz i am very angry. 30min before i fought a Chronomancer and a Zerk-Revenant in WvW and killed them both (twice). I also am a Chronomancer. And cuz they were chasing me over the half map and then dying both to me (2v1), i used the laugh-emote, just cause it was funny. And then the Mesmer wrote that i am cheating., cause i can run faster then he. I tried to explain, that i did not cheat, but he was sure….I tried to explain, that he might have seen my illusions having super speed when i shatter them….but then he blocked me…

WHY are all people so rude, trying to chase u over the half map, losing 2v1 and then blaming u for cheating ? I dont understand why people doing this… =( Cause of this i am rly mad sometimes and then i ll become such a person myself, “flaming” others…if we all could just be nice and stop finding stupid excuses for our own defeats and faults…the game would be much better!!

Thanks!

greets
Apo

You kinda laughed at them too, though. Not exactly nice yourself, methinks. I salute my fallen foes, or bow to them. You were a jerk, and get upset when they flamed you? honestly, you started that, and you got what you deserved in response.

Its kinda funny though. Just the other day in pvp this guy was trolling me because I killed him “after running four times and constantly blocking” his attacks.

And kept calling me kid. I was like, wait, I won, you lost, and you are going to give me a hard time for A) “running away” (which I actually didn’t do, once he knocked me off the platform, and the other times I was moving in a circle. How was that running away?), and blocking all his attacks (I was using shied as a chronomancer, suppose I should have just deleted that skill #4?)

two other times, I’ve had enemies in wvw whisper me for being weak when I fought them with guards – and I was like, “you were the one stupid enough to fight me near the guards, you didn’t have to, and yet you are gonna rage on me for dying in that situation?”

Ah well. People seem to have to do such crap to make themselves feel better, I suppose.
