6 gain 2 seconds of resistance when you use heal skill. So I hate to perform thread necromancy, but I haven’t been able to find information on this anywhere, not even in the wiki. Do we have a source for this or something?
When you go in to PvP, it’s on the list of runes. We still don’t know where to get them outside PvP though.
thats very strange
I think power wise mallyx is just fine. My problem is that its original incarnation had a lot more FLAVOR than the current iteration has.
I’ve been playing Mallyx/jalis, and having a lot of fun, but miss the flavor it had before.
no joke, that was a seriousl wall of text. Please implement some spacing, paragraph breaks, etc, it was too unpleasant to read as it is now.

Hang gliding quaggan mini.
The witch’s broom and the magic flying carpet would be awesome too.
I always thought that for revenant skills it would be better if they had an escalating cost each time after the first that you used a skill, but that that extra cost cooled off when you didn’t use it.
But no real information on post launch I suppose?
Hm, I do occasionally run a condition build instead, perhaps I could get the mummy back pack for that. Only problem is I already have the Tower of nightmares toxic injection backpack for that lol
I would love to get this backpack for my human necromancer! the only problem is I already have the bat wing backpack. I mostly run vampiric style builds so it is really is more fitting for my character. too bad though.
I haven’t done any research in this yet, so I thought I would check and see if anyone else had. Does anyone know which maps include giant eyes as possible rewards for the map reward system?
I really think you guys are so grateful for a change – any change – that you’re missing a few things that point to this not being much of a compromise.
1) Hero points are still account bound.
2) They are still gated behind some masteries.
3) You are still forced to spend Hero Points on ALL your skills and utilities before you can even unlock the elite spec.
4) The elite specs are all earned in a linear fashion – which means you MUST spend your hero points on traits AND SKILLS that you may never even use.As it is, 250 HP is easier to swallow versus 400 HP, true…if you only have 1 or 2 alts to grind. But once you hit 4-5 alts and up… this is still a HUGE amount of grind.
That’s not what grind means.
You get enough HP for all of your skills by hitting, except for your elite. You literally have to walk around and get your 25 hero points now instead of 40 (5 if you did map completion on your alts.) Back when GW2 was released, you received NO hero points for leveling up. Consider yourself lucky.
How long have you been playing, cuz what you just said is not true at all. I’ve Been playing for 3 years, you never did and still do not receive Hero Points for leveling up. You only received Skill Points for leveling above 80, and those were converted into Spirit Shards, not Hero Points.
So every single Hero Point I have across my 10 level 80 alts was earned by walking around, taking time to explore the map and completing a Hero/Skill Point challenge.
250HP means 25 hero challenges X number of alts (10) = 250 Hero Challenges. I have to do TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY. Think about it. Which, btw, I will have to earn the hard way for all of them, just like everyone else. Over and over. And time gated. And reliant on other players.
That is the definition of “Grind” my friend.
So I will reserve my thanks for when actual compromise is done.
Uh, yes you did, and yes you do. Before 2014, you got a skill point every single time you leveled even beyond 80. Now you get the hero points you need to completely unlock everything on your character by the time you hit 80, and all the hero points in the world are just extra gravy, or a way to get your skills and traits faster.
I’m not sure where you got the idea that you don’t get hero points or skill points for leveling and never did, but you have pretty much the entire game.
Don’t believe me? Check the Guild Wars wiki and search for hero points. It’s right there. Heck, I got them when I used the scrolls and Tome to auto 80 my revenant.
(edited by Morfedel.4165)
I think maybe they should have made it four hundred points for the first character, then 200 points for all of your alls. But I think this is fine too. Keeping it at 400 for all characters I think really was too much, so this is pretty decent.
Also, a lot of people wanted to experience the new game with elite specs at the same time, but that was very difficult to do if you had to go get all four hundred points. I was one of those people who wanted to be able to play with the full elite along with the new game content at the same time, although I did kind of white knight a little for the company, because the rudeness, toxicity, and rage with which most of the critics approached this really ticked me off as their approach seemed completely unreasonable.
That being said, overall I think this was a positive change.
So the big question now is when is it going to be implemented? Because I suspect they’re going to have to be doing a little bit of programming to make it change correctly. So it’s probably not going to happen in the next couple of days I’m assuming
A lot of players are also doing the Halloween events. It was a bad idea for them to release both at the same time. I see massive tons of people in LA just waiting to do mad King says. That being the case though, I have been taking my time and slowly exploring the entire map and you know what? I’m having a lot of fun. And that’s really all that matters.
Unless you can seriously call leveling your first character from 1 to 80 also a grind, I can’t seriously accept you’re complaining about this. Other MMOs expansions Required you to put some effort into gaining the new improvements and the new toys etc etc that was made available with said the new expansion, and this is no different at all. Therefore there really is nothing that you can legitimately complain about. Not until other MMOs start giving away everything for free. Otherwise, I want all the legendaries for free and I want them right now.
Is it me or has anyone else notice it?
I am serious..
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns/user-reviewsThere’s no actual review, there’s no bug reports, nothing mentioned about the low experience gain, the tedious gates, and this looks just like pure fan servicing or the reviews were bought.
here’s a quote I picked out from one of the user review
"Leveling your mastery does not feel like a grind at all, instead you get immersed by all the events and story going on in the new areas. "Are you kitten me? What immersion do I gain from grinding 5 million experience points+ just to unlock multiple gates to traverse, explore and enjoy the content?
No, I do not care about Hero points, I am already 73.8% through elite specialization, and is Mastery Rank 10. This post is in fact my actual complaint to the game developers, and I felt like I had to grind a lot of content just to play the content (what?). So the content became nothing more but dust, so I actually do not want to revisit any of the areas that I cleared. For example, Verdant Brink is somewhere I had clear by 84% and I’d rather not step back into it even if someone wants to give me 5 million dollars to go back there to grind; it’s god awful that I’d rather scream than take the 5 million just to enter the zone again to grind.
Another mention is that WvWvW and EoTM has become even bigger now because 90% of the people there does not want to go to Maguuma due to the heavy grind, and low experience points; this is a huge sign that the content is lacking and very low quality (although it has fantastic scenery and good models, without a doubt there’s a lot of glitches which I discovered and will be reporting later), so please developers, please I beg you to not kill off this game with grind gates because not only it goes against your manifesto but it is very disappointing to players who were looking to enjoy this game casually.
No we aren’t kittening you. Some of us really are enjoying the experience and think it’s great. Not everyone thinks the way you do. And yet your post here seems to suggest that everyone should be thinking like you. Just remember some people prefer chocolate ice cream over vanilla as well, and it doesn’t make them wrong either..
As an FYI – If you choose to attack with Tizlak the first time, you don’t get sent to Scout Acan. We only track the first choice you make in story missions – replay let’s you choose a different path to experience it, but it doesn’t alter your initial decision so if your first time through you chose to defend with Ibli, that’s the decision that gets recorded on that character.
Except that isn’t true, I chose attack and I got sent to the Scout anyway.
However, I had to step away from my desk for a minute the first time I was running through it, While the NPCs were sitting there Idle it looked like she had chosen for me to do to defend. I didn’t want to do that I wanted to attack so I ended up exiting and reentering to choose attack instead. So did it register that as my choice even though the mission wasn’t even complete?
And if so is that going to fubar the rest of my missions in the future? I really wish they would choose to register your choice when the mission ended in case something like this happens.
I don’t believe it is relevant, because I chose attack and I’m having the exact same problem.
The point being you don’t have to buy the majority of that stuff if you don’t want, you can gather and craft. So it is exactly either a time sink or a gold sink. The fact is you get options, but they never said it was going to be easy either way. I am terrible at farming for gold so the other option, the Time sink, is actually the better way for me to go.
Um. Okay….. It’s still here.
Dude it hasn’t even been 24 hours since the dev posted their response.
huh… me, a friend of mine and some random guy got this first try (though it wasn’t the randoms first, i’d guess, given we had to rez him when we got there)
we did keep him fairly consistently stunned though, but i really didn’t feel it was even all that challenging (for a presumably unsoloable champ)
I think the problem is the more targets the boss can life steal from, the more health she regains and the tougher she becomes. First couple times I was playing a minion master, and her health never really went down for long lol
also most of the others were meleeing her. After I observed the aoe effect, i suggested the changes I mentioned, and we had no trouble.
So I think what you want is more than 1 but not a lot, keeping the numbers high enough to successfully dps her, but low enough that she cant keep her health topped off indefinitely, plus avoid being too close to her.
his life steal is basically a point blank aoe effect. the more clustered around it the more health it regains.
So what you have to do is spread out. No summoned critters where you can help it (obviously ranger cant help it and mesmer has a bit of trouble), but definitely keep the numbers down.
Also, as I said, spread out, and dont stick close to her if you can avoid it. The less targets close to her, the less life she can steal. It took us three attempts but, between some hard CC, spreading out, the necro changing skills to non minions, etc, we did defeat her once we saw how her life steal was working.
Once we made those changes, she wasn’t that hard.
Also isnt talking to me. Plus, I couldnt hear his playing first time, though once I logged off and back on the sound came back from him.
But he still wont talk to me, logged off and back on several times, switched characters, guested on another world, nothing worked.
105 shy of what I need to complete the spec. With only moderate effort at best
And the positive reviews are now out weighing the negative by an increasingly comfortable margin, twice as many positives as negatives
(edited by Morfedel.4165)
My friends, guild, family are loving this expansion. Not everyone hates it, and most of the time the maps have been well populated despite the naysaying and Halloween
I was thinking we have a couple of items that should be retrofitted to use as hang gliders. For example, the broom and magic carpets toys. I think it’d be awesome to use those as replacements to standard hang gliders in heart of thorns.
Only 3 minions would need anything flying, since Shadow/Blood Fiend both float and Flesh Wurm can’t move. And for those 3 it would make the most sense if they grew wings, but frankly they magically teleport all the time anyway, so unless we had mid-air combat its nbd.
Dude, it was a joke. Lol
Pretty much what the title says, I think we should have our minions on hang gliders to go flying with us. I think that would look totally awesome lol
What’s worse is that in the Mad King’s labyrinth, I think the doors destroy the projectiles without actually shutting off the skill. Haven’t seen that happen anywhere else, though.
Never had that problem in lab.
Those hammers are our mob-tag-stick :-D
So is embrace the Darkness :-)
I have been using Mallyx / jalis with rabid armor and runes & sigils of torment. Using the typical weapons for those two legends. It’s been a lot of fun
3 years ago annet says: guys! you dont need farm or grind anything! you can play what you like to play.
(and this was realy good)
Now they says: oh.. sorry folks we changed our minds. Now YOU MUST farm and you must doing stupid jumping puzzles. It’s not " a matter of opinion and taste". IT"S TOTALY NOT.
Yeah, actually it is. You see, I’m enjoying the game, and you’re trying to tell me that I’m not allowed to enjoy the game. That seems a little arrogant. I’m enjoying the game and I think it’s great. How could you tell me that my experience is wrong? Am I having bad wrong fun?
Also, there’s a big difference between progressing your character and having grind. Every expansion in every MMO in existence just about with perhaps a couple of exceptions have added vertical levels and vertical gear in order for your character to improve. That wasn’t considered a grind either necessarily, because the idea of advancing your character is a concept that very nearly every RPG of any kind in existence has followed.
However, in this case, Guild Wars 2 is presenting horizontal instead of vertical progression so you don’t have to grind out any new gear that wasn’t already available in the core game. Just have to get some new talents, but that’s all part of horizontal progression. And for that matter, they said it from day one of the expansion set announcement that there was going to be horizontal progression. That means, by the word progression, that you were going to have to advance your character a little more. This should not have come as a surprise to anyone.
Each his own.
Some rather have gold, than a gold looking package filled with kittenstuff.
And that also is your personal opinion. My opinion is every bit as valid as yours, and your opinion is not fact.
Shhh man you are not allowed to say that you enjoy the game in these forums.
Really now… I thought it was just the opposite. Someone starts a post saying they have issues with, and/or dislike HOT, and before they can hit Reply, the White Knights come charging in to insult the poor fella.
I don’t have a problem with people who say they aren’t happy with the expansion, my problem comes about when they are destructively critical and coming off as trolls, if they just said you know I don’t like this expansion because of XYZ and I don’t think it’s for me, I’d be okay with it but instead what they do is come in with things like ArenaNet lied to us again, or this expansion is total garbage. It’s like they are intentionally trying to troll those of us who like the expansion, and come off as rude and insulting.
And yes, then the White Nights come in because they perceive in attack. It was so hard for people to come in and say you know, hope you guys enjoy the game, this just isn’t for me, I don’t find it appealing to me. And I’d say okay, sorry to hear that, good luck with whatever game you decide to play next but that’s not what happens. by the same token, I sit here and say the game is great, and first reply I get I’ve been told that I’m wrong, when I tried to make it clear I was specifically referring it to my enjoyment of the game rather than a statement of fact.

New – doesnt mean good. We got new content in HoT – yep. But this… content doesnt looks good.
And the strangest thing that the company began to destroy the things that made the GW2 classic – so popular. Looks like developers… just went crazy.
It doesn’t look good to you perhaps, but to me it has been great so far. I am well aware that new doesn’t equate to good, but guess what? New doesn’t equate to bad either. And just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad anymore than because I do like it means it’s good. I have found it extremely enjoyable. If you haven’t, that’s okay, but again that doesn’t mean it’s bad it just means I like it and you dont. There are no black and white facts here, it’s like me saying I prefer chocolate ice cream and you like vanilla ice cream, doesn’t mean that the chocolate suc and the vanilla is great. It’s all a matter of opinion and taste.

Before we get people in here telling me how the game sucks, I want to point out I am NOT saying the expansion is without flaw.
When heart of thorns was announced, I was close to quitting the game. Not because I thought the game was terrible, but I’ve done almost everything you can do, except making a legendary weapon. I’ve been playing since the beta of the core game and there was really nothing left for me to do anymore that I hadn’t done many times already.
Heart of thorns got announced just in the nick of time, & I just wanted to say that I have had more fun in this last weekend that I’ve had in a really long time, & I wanted to thank you for coming out with the expansion. I’m looking forward to enjoying it for some time to come.
Get started on the next expansion already lol

Because being rude is the best way to make friends! Go rudeness team!
What amazes me is that the moderators don’t see that it will do more harm being rude to people who leaves than deleting the comments. Do you think this player will ever, EVER, recommend this game to anyone after treated like that? I would not be surprised if they now start actively discouraged players to buy the game, warning them of the hateful community.
I totally agree, the OP should not have been rude.
Do you see what I did there? You see we can both play that game. Fact of the matter is the OP really was drawing first blood, and it was clear he was unhappy anyway and would never recommend the game.
This really has been a very positive community overall, but that doesn’t mean we have to tolerate the toxicity of people like the originator of this thread. This really has been a very positive community overall, but that doesn’t mean we have to tolerate that toxicity of people like the OP of this thread. If he had just said hey guys hope you enjoy the game, it isn’t for me. But I hope you have fun, see you later. That would have been fine, but that’s not what he did. And that doesn’t obligatel us to be nice and sweet when he started this conversation being vitriolic.
Being nice doesn’t translate to sitting here quietly while someone is spewing acid.
Masteries should have been unlocked the moment you logged in, they just needed to check to see if you owned hot which would have been easy.
That being the case though, they were pretty clear that you had to play the first story to unlock, so you should not have been surprised that it had major spoilers in it.
This post is in response to another where a customer wanted a refund for HoT. I DON’T want a refund, even though I think that HoT is the worst xpac in MMO history. I will play it through no matter how frustrating and not fun it is. What I would like is a statement form the president of ArenaNet and the devs of HoT explaining to a very dissatisfied customer base as to how they could release such an awful game. be seeing you.
The above quoted to text is filled with inaccuracies. Primarily the assertion that there is an unhappy player base. The fact is there is a segment of the player base that is unhappy, but there’s another segment that is thoroughly enjoying this. Me and the majority of my guild are loving this, so don’t talk for the entire player base. And as such since you can’t make everybody happy no matter what you do, they don’t really owe you anything.
Wait, with phase traversal you teleport back don’t you? So how can it be used for travel?
nope! it’s just a shadow step that requires a target
I was thinking of phase smash, heh
It would be a better option if the developers would just add in a revenant option, but I suppose it’ll be awhile before that happens.
You know, you can also use unyielding anguish for short range teleports that are moderately spammable. Individually its not a whole lot, but it does add up
Wait, with phase traversal you teleport back don’t you? So how can it be used for travel?
So, I stored up 9 of these, and started to use one for my revenant. Lo and behold… there is a class entry for every other class, but the revenant wasn’t added to the list.
Any chance we could get revenant added to the list? And soon?
And remember Revenants essentially get two separate heal skills, so within the restrictions of that cool down. They could get the benefits twice.
They have said time and time again that the content in hot was supposed to be hard, but those of us who beta tested it saw that it was doable.
if you are new, then it might just mean you need more experience, but if you’ve been doing this for a while, you may need to change your strategy and style of play. Or your gear.

I found a list of all the new ones runes that have come out, there was one for each of the elite specializations. Strangely, there was no runes listed for the revenant core class. This seems like a glaring hole in that every one of the other core classes also has their own rune. Is there one and the list just missed it, or did it not get made?
