The elite specs are comically overpowered.

If you look at Anet’s history of how they made GW1, it’s pretty clear that power creep happens in their development cycle. They introduce new stuff and that new stuff will almost always be better than the old stuff.
If you played GW1 at any point after Nightfall’s release, then Prophecies was a complete piece of cake. With EotN, everything else became a complete piece of cake, even most hard mode content.
It’s a sad, unfortunate, but expected reality with how ArenaNet does things. They don’t have a vertical progression or a gear treadmill – they have a horizontal powercreep.
This is how Anet does things. And I had predicted such back in February.
It doesn’t surprise me.
And to those who are saying that people are not used to fighting the elite specs – this isn’t just a matter of PvP. Go into PvE and the elite specs will melt mobs while the core don’t – or at least, don’t as much. The sheer numbers is vastly greater in most (if not all) elite specs.
I’m sorry, but you should not be able to stand in a Legendary boss’s attacks without a care in the world like reapers can. As one example.
As a main necro, I find the obvious OP’ness of reapers to be… boring.
Which legendary foes are you just standing in their main attacks shrugged it off? Because I’ve been playing four different elite specs, and as an example the wyvern or the axe master, were downing people right and left with no effort, good lord the axe master literally did 1.8 million points of damage to me with its head shot ability. And the wyvern downed me several times along with everyone else in the fights I was in. So what legendary is it that you’re scoffing at?

If you can find a quote that proves me wrong, that’s fine, but from what I recall they never said the druid is what was going to break the Berzerker Meta, what they said was that the design of Hot in general was what was going to break the Berzerker meta.
Beta Weekend 2 vs 3:
Lmao
we need a thread merge
By doing events. Completing jumping puzzles and minidungeons.
ah ok. How many? One? 10?
how exactly do you earn these map rewards?
The underlying system of combat is built around area attacks. This is why the majority of base weapon attacks strike multiple targets in the affected area, unlike other games which strike one target – the one you have selected. Our system makes things like positioning and facing far more important and engaging; this also means that the concept of ‘AoE’ is not as easy to distinguish and thus handle in different ways.
That said, we are currently looking at systemic ways to help with player pet and minion survivability.
Please tell me illusions will be added into this is well. It is very frustrating to summon an illusion and have it explode before you can do anything with it. Wasn’t so bad at all when we had on death traits but now that we don’t, we summon it and it dies before it can make an attack or be used for a shatter.
Chronomancer is very overpowered. It needs a 20%+ Dmg nerf across the board and it will still do fine.
Yep! Intelligent, well reasoned, and helpful feedback like this is key.
Hey, you just dropped some sarcasm there, you shouldn’t leave such a mess lol
Gratz!

Anet, I want to thank you for taking my advice when I advised you to make Guild Wars 2. I thought it was a great idea to do an expansion off of Guild Wars 1, & I am really glad you saw the wisdom in my advice.
LOL
Well if we’re going to go ahead and take credit for things, I’d like to thank Anet for taking my advice in the early development to incorporate a leveling system, I’d also like to thank them for taking my advice on adding dungeons and dungeon paths to the game, as well as fractals, I’ve always felt mini dungeons would be popular, so it was really cool to see they took my advice to add them.
I’m also grateful they took my advice to add an expansion centered around Sylvari and also my advice to allow us to craft precursors. You guys really do listen! Thanks ANET!
LOL
Thanks anet for taking my advice on “Raid” concept despite many people objected my idea. and thanks anet for incorporating wvw into guild missions despite so many people objected my idea.
Now that HOT is coming, isn’t it time we end the insane farming and drop loot in silverwaste. it really inflated the game economy and it’s off balance with other areas of the map.
well comparing to rewards in wvw and pvp is another story!
also guild needs more ranks with the release of the HOT. because we want to have silverwaste master, HOT master, raid master and so on
so expand the number of ranks in guild panel. another suggestion is that if some of the guild buff price and cooking time be adjusted, that would help a lot of guilds and players.
what do you think people!
Taking YOUR advice on raids? Wait, are you trying to say that this was all your idea and no one else ever thought about it despite the fact that it has been in previous games before Guild Wars 2?
OMG lol
As a side note, there are plenty of people who cant play Berserker stats, because it requires being near perfect with your dodges, and not everyone has that kind of timing.
I dont. I have a lot of trouble when I play 100% offensive stat gear. So you know what I do? I play usually with at least one offensive and one defensive stat.
And I beat most beserkers. Not all, but most. Berserkers do hit the hardest, but they also take hits like wet paper, and they have to play nearly perfect, so when I survive their burst and hit back, they’re often going down faster than I am.
Clearly this isn’t discussing PvE, in PvE its a completely different story. But then again hot is going to be changing that as well.
I play Condi shatter all the time in pvp, have a lot of fun with it and I do quite well. Been playing since day 1.
That said it’s hardly overpowered. There are many counters to it. Just try playing one against a Condi transfer necro or diamond skin ele for instance.
And anyone that brings any significant Condi cleansing. Frankly, I think both the Condi shatter sucks crowd and Condi shatter needs nerfing crowd are wrong, I think it’s a middle of the road build with some significant strengths and glaring weaknesses that makes it extremely vulnerable to rock-paper-scissors matchups.
I could recount the times I’ve flat out melted foes with little effort, and times I was utterly paralyzed. Honestly I’ve one most 1v1s with my Condi shatter, but pvp is a team game (then again, I love the chaos that comes with hot join so…)
That being said, I also just dislike power shatter. No reason. Just hasn’t appealed to me, and I don’t seem to pay it well, though I’ve been very successful at power phantasms and lock down, so it’s mostly play style. And having been on the receiving end of backstabs over 16k I really don’t like fully offensive builds shrug
I’m babbling, but the point I am trying to make is I don’t think the build is as terrible as some of you are saying, but I don’t think it’s anywhere near this godkiller others are making it out to be either
(edited by Morfedel.4165)
Alacrity is going to make mesmers in group play in all game modes much nicer to have around.
So which classes would you rather play the base without the elite? And which classes would you rather prefer the elite?
For example, I think I will play Chronomancer a bit more than mesmer, Reaper over necromancer, daredevil over thief, scrapper once engineer.
However, I prefer Ranger over druid , warrior over beserker. Revenant over Herald, I play very little warrior or elementalist so no preferences there.

I main mesmer, so Chronomancer is my #1, with reaper a very close second. Probably scrapper third. If we were also counting the revenant, as it is also new, revenant would be higher up than the scrapper. I am not that interested in Herald, but the revenant I absolutely love
Fact is, this is an mmorpg: MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER etc etc….
There are plenty of games designed to play solo. Diablo 3; the Witcher; Assassin’s Creed. Etc etc. Point being, if you are playing in an MMO, of which this is, it’s intent is to be a group play experience.
That doesn’t mean you have to play it that way. I play parts of it solo, and I’ve heard that you can solo some dungeons now, but as an mmo, it’s not really it’s intended design.
Hey all,
I see a lot of questions about what’s coming, and sadly, I can’t answer those because I’m really not sure of the answers. We’ll put out a blog post and a release page that will have a lot of info about the event. That will be coming up in a couple of weeks.
Like you I have a few store items and a few drops that I’d like to see return, so I’ll be looking for that info, too!
I really enjoy both this and wintersday, but last year both events had very little new stuff and were essentially rehash. I’m hoping there is a bit more new stuff this time around
I think the trinity is only going to matter in raids. So it isn’t like it’s the entire game.
in pve, ice bow was severely broken. It was doing damage far outside of what it should have been doing as mentioned by others already. in fact, I was a video a couple weeks ago where the ice bow did something far beyond anything I thought was even possible.
apparently it can also be done with meteor storm, but unlike meteor storm you could hand out ice bows to other people too.
I Think I would be okay with the Trinity as long as every class could fill every role, albeit in a different manner from each other.
I love what they are trying to do with the druid.. but I think its got way too much healing. I would like to see a little less healing and a little more support in other categories.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what they are trying to do, but I think there is such thing as too much of one thing.
The game is doomed? Seriously? Good lord, stop being such a drama queen.
Could someone please tell me what precisely was revealed about the Druid?
you know, my main isnt a ranger, but I have a condi/cc build using, among other things, both pink moa (daze) and wolf (fear) along with short and long bow, heh, the taunt trait, and some stuff enhancing condis and cc in both gear and traits.
It did pretty well really, I was happy with it.
They should kill it imo. Its original purpose was supposed to be a testing ground for us WvWers but things like golem week prove that they don’t even care. As long as it remains while unique and cool in its design is a worthless imitation to all serious WvW players. We all view it as the easy place to karma train(which we don’t need) and uplevel city.
I think it should just be scrapped and with HoT leave only 2.1 maps in existence: Eternal Battlegrounds, The Desert Oasis, and Obisdian Sanctum (for larger GvG’s?)
Actually, its intention was to give wvwers who were waiting in long queues to have something to do until their queue was up. Didn’t quite turn out that way though lol
So Stronghold and parts of the pve environment have been going on, as have the elite specs and revenant. We are going to get some time even on Druid and Scrapper soon.
But I’ve heard nothing about the Desert Borderland non-closed beta. Are there plans for that, or is it going to wait until release?
You should be happy that at least Mordremoth has a voice.
Zhaitan spoke as much as Chell did in the Portal series.
(And Portal also happens to be something that Nolan North is famous for)
Who also did voice work for my favorite game of all time, Last of Us
In fact, they should have taken this further, some story for revenants to explain their presence when you can then turn around and take the revenant in pre-HoT stories.
But no explanation on that. Just accept it and move on. Disappointing really. But with that in mind, I love what they are doing with the Sylvari and Mordremoth.
In fact, from what I gather there isn’t any new story elements, its just flavor text. A corrupted sylvari calls for mordremoth’s help, and:
1. Sylvari hear mordemoth say “ok here you go,” meanwhile
2. Everyone else hears a mighty dragon’s roar, and then…
reinforcements appear. Is it really questinable what hapened? In one case we heard a verbal response that basically mounted to an ok dude, while everyone else heard a roar before the reinforcements arrived.
All it was was flavor text. No story, no spoilers, just a sure here you go. You really aren’t missing out on anything really.
I have to say, I liked the hammer flying around, combined with the two from the skill. Tell me… does the skill that creates the two hammers, do they work underwater?
You could of course get a high uptime, but movement speed caps at 33% infight. So the other 17% would only help you while you’re crippled or chilled.
Also, you’d have to basically run a Build focusing on Superspeed so it will lose a lot of it’s effectiveness but have high mobility and healing due to Rapid Regeneration (Superspeed healing should be brought down a little if Superspeed ends up stackable).
With a group you could stack perma Superspeed, but with a group you can also get perma protection, swiftness, 25 might, loads if not perma stability,… you get what I’m saying.
Thats not exactly how superspeed works (unless I’m misunderstanding what you are saying), but basically you run as fast in combat with superspeed as you run out of combat with swiftness. So, yes, it does help even if you arent crippled or chilled, if you are in combat.
Out of combat, it is faster than swiftness, but only by a hair. Swiftness ooc you run 399, superspeed you run 400 – barely enough to notice, particularly with its very low duration.
When they say “first look” does that mean we aren’t getting a third party reveal today and/or an official reveal on Thursday? God, I hope it doesn’t.
Fits in with how they have been shafting rangers.
Wait a minute, are you seriously saying that by not getting a third party reveal the Rangers getting shafted? You are aware, aren’t you, that many of the other classes also did not get a third party reveal?
Scrapper, Berserker, Chronomancer, Reaper, Herald, Dragonhunter, Tempest did off top of my head. I’m pretty sure Daredevil did too.
So that’s kinda false. I’ve kept up on each of them. They all got one, except one was posted early Thursday morning rather than Wednesday (meaning it was only an early reveal by a few hours).
As far as I recall Chronomancer and Dragonhunter didn’t get one. I’m mesmer main, I watched. Granted I don’t monitor every single outlet, so I could have missed it.
Or more to the point the third party releases for that info was same day as the anet post for it. The third party one day early started after the first few if I recall.
I’m willing to admit I could be wrong though. If you can show me wrong on this that’s fine. I’m as human and fallible as anyone else. It still isn’t shafting the ranger though, something like that is virtually meaningless.
Failure to release the information they did for everyone else, that would be shafting the ranger.
BTW, I went ahead and looked for it. The first couple classes DID get a third party release… on the exact same day that anet put it on their own website. So… yeah, third party, but not in advance or anything. The day before business came a little later.

Very possible that we’ll get 30-40 minutes of show time. Intro may be 15 minutes. Then druid showcase for 30-40 minutes musical performance for maybe 15 minutes or so. Then adventures in GW2 for a solid 30 minutes. Then they get the live stage at 3pm EST for 15 minutes. They have plenty of time from 1 pm to 3 pm in order to dedicate a full 30 minutes slot for Druid.
Not a kitten chance Druid gets 30 minutes lol.
It will be a miracle if they even get 10-15….
All they will do is show off a few animations on the staff… some new traits and thats about it… might spew off some other misc details and future outlook but thats about it.
I have no reason at all to believe anet cares that much about ranger to devote a 30 minute segment on a live, major platform. We (the ranger community) is a small part of the audience. Anet wants to get on with the goodies, hence start off with the druid reveal to get it out the way quickly so anet can get to the actual stuff the majority of the audience wants to see.
That is just completely ridiculous. By the time the week is over, they’re going to give us the same amount of information and they did for the rest of the classes to think otherwise is absolutely kitten.
Whether you like what they reveal or not is another matter, but we will have the same information that we did for every other class.
Considering I had already decided to play a sylvari Revenant since the sylvari race is the only one I had not played the personal story for yet anyway, I must say that I think this is truly awesome
However considering the fact that my main is an asura Mesmer, I still think it’s awesome.
considering you can make trays of food that anyone can cook from, I don’t think they would make food that gave party-wide buffs.
no, that is really bad design. It’s the same as only the undead hearing the voice of the Lich in WoW.
I guess we will all have to agree to disagree. I think its great design. Others do too. And yet others agree with you.
So, like much else, seems like it’s in the eye of the beholder.
Also you can always use sic em. And possibly traps.
From gamespot article, so Nolan North is voicing Mordremoth but…..
Source: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/destiny-uncharted-actor-nolan-north-voicing-guild-/1100-6430811/
" What’s especially interesting about Mordremoth is that the only player race who can hear him are the Sylvari characters. The game’s other races only hear dragon-like noises. It’s a nice touch that fans will no doubt recognize and appreciate."
This is BAD design !
The idea that such a huge voice actor lines can ONLy be heard by a single race is LUDICROUS !
I understand you want to give this race something unique but this is offensive to the rest of the player base that cares about the story.
I don’t wanna be forced to play a sylvari to actually get the full experience and intent of the story !!!
I hope this is NOT how it works, if it ain’t you need to clarify this very very QUICKLY !!!
1. Suck it up. It wont change at this point.
2. This isnt the first. For instance, when you finally beat Scarlet, if you were an engineer you could get a bit more info on her schematics than other classes could.
3. I think this is freakin cool. They did this during the beta as well, sylvari could hear the voice.
4. It makes sense from a story standpoint too.
5. Just because YOU think it is a bad design doesn’t mean it IS a bad design. I and my friends, for instance, thinks its awesome.
6. Suck it up.
That there are hit points isn’t the problem to be honest… it’s just the amount of hit points that is a problem…
Really? AI with HP that is supposed to survive for any real length of in this game is a total failure, be it minions, turrets, ranger pets, whatever, you can’t balance HP, when even if we just take PvP, it can be a 1v1 or a 5v5. (and that is PvP, can you imagine WvW with these things they will insta die)
That they’ve introduced more AI after it being a total failure in this game, is laughable, though along with all the passives they’ve added it should give those still deluded about this game a clue to where the main focus is now, people that think ‘ooh what a pwetty robot, how cool’, that the gameplay of these gyros will be an unbalancable, broken kittenfest, is secondary to that.
My mesmer disagrees with you
Are people really complaining about the lack of use of the Scrapper in a PVE environment?
It’s pretty obvious that it was designed to fix what the Engineer was lacking : support and survivability. Not give it another way to DPS. We have grenades, we have condis, we have plenty of damage options. What we lack is a concrete way to be of use to a group, and a concrete way to stay alive against conditions and focus-fire. That is what the Scrapper gives us.
I don’t mean to burst your bubble but with the way PvE works there is a golden rule:
If you aren’t doing damage, you are effectively useless. No one wants the full cleric guardian to show up and “heal” everyone while slowing the group to a crawl because someone is hitting for 400 damage.
Guess what the Scrapper doesn’t do? Yep. Damage. And what is it DESIGNED to do? Yep. Tank. It’s a PvP spec, designed to be a boring stunbunker.
If you still aren’t convinced. Look at the “new mechanic”. A ranged stomp and rez. Lets look at a list all the applications a ranged stomp/rez has in PvE:
1.
2.
3.
4. Killing those toxic Sylvari that showed up that one time in an event that will never show up again.
5.
6. Picking little Tim up off the ground when he doesn’t dodge a oneshot.Scrapper is anet forcing their esports game mode on the second-least popular profession. It is also their second attempt at balancing turrets. Furthermore, it doesn’t even add anything new, neither to the class or the game. Gyros are either boring and passive (50% less damage, poor healing) or an underwhelming active. (whirling and counter-intuitive stealth). I laugh every time they say “fuel system”. It’s not some complex system, its a DURATION for the love of god drop the act.
But yeah whatever back to Grenades I guess (Which still apply vuln faster than the hammer does)
That may have been true before, but HoT in general and raids in particular are very likely exceptions
Can you stealth sneak gyro with toss elixir s?
That’s… An interesting idea
The specialization seems like it was balanced around super speed being unstackable. Can you image how op some of the traits would be if it was. Same with quickness.
Quickness stacks duration :-)
Super speed isn’t a boon, it’s an effect.
Giving mounts just to rangers would be hysterical lol
What i dont understand is, the mesmer gets his new F skill without skilling it with a trait, the thief get 3 doges without the need to skill it with a trait, the necro gets the new f skill also for free. We must skill it and lose one Trait for it and in my opinion a very good one 25% Stunduration -25% stunduration on me.
What are you talking about? What does “skilling it” supposed to mean?
(edited by Morfedel.4165)
We already tried it. Every time we left turrets out in the field and they were destroyed in few seconds. And that’s with traits making them sturdier – something that gyros even lack.
And unlike most turrets, those are meant to be used in melee, since that’s where the scrapper should be.
How can you even think that the results will be different?See now I want to go try it out for myself. Engineer is tied with Necromancer for my 2nd favorite slot, but Mesmer has been my main pretty hardcore for the last three years, just playing necro or engineer when I needed a break from my mez, and the other professions even less so.
So it’s rather amusing that my only engineer build I made before this last major patch… was an elixir bomb build. Since then I’ve been experimenting with other things, but I never really used turrets too much.
So now I suppose I need to go try them out for myself.
But are you saying that turrets are useless in every game format? PVE, PVP, and WVW? fractals, dungeons, and open world?
And another question… Do turrets, like mesmer illusions, adopt their stats in part from the user? If so, and if most engineers go full offensive stats (Zerker etc) then isn’t that kinda making your own problems?
Let me give an example. Often I see people in the mesmer forums posting that so and so illusion is worthless junk because they just cant live long enough; but lo and behold, I take gear with more defensive stats, and sure enough, my illusions survive much better than what these others were reporting – which makes this a STAT issue rather than an issue with the skill itself.
Case in point: Precisely because of this discussion, when I went home for lunch from work, I took my mesmer into pvp, with the Mental Defense Trait, Signet of Illusions, PVT gear, and the Inspiration line with the first two traits set to increasing phantasm survivability.
I also took several skills that gave me blocks and dodges – I was doing other stuff with the build as well that triggered some effects based on dodging, blocking, etc, but I also wanted to test the pDefender.
Over the course of several battles, I was constantly summoned the pDefender because of the Mental Defense trait. People had reported it died instantly, in ANY format, and thus it was worthless.
Mine did not die instantly. It didnt survive all that long, but seriously, 50% damage reduction effectively would be way too powerful if it lasted too long. It was enough that the pDefender lasted a good 5, 10, sometimes 15 seconds; and since when you have retaliation on your phantasm from the inspiration trait, and pDefender splits all damage, it triggers retaliation twice, once from an illusion and once from the Defender itself.
Note that this was merely verifying what i knew to be true with the mesmer; been playing it since bwe2 of the core game, I’ve played similar builds in every aspect of the game.
The point being, the usefulness of various mesmer illusions depends heavily on the traits of the user itself. I am not aware of whether or not the turrets and gyros adopt their stats from yours, but it seems likely and, if so, it may well be that the average user has been going heavy offense and low defense, thus meaning turrets, and gyros, simply would not have the CHANCE of surviving because, if they could survive well with zerker stats, they would be seriously OP.
Understand here, before you flame me on this: I’m NOT saying this is the case. I know my mesmer very well, but I fully admit not being an expert on the engineer. I’m SPECULATING… but based on my experiences with mesmer and the naysayers there who also run full offensive gear as well, my suspicions are that this might possibly be the case here as well.
And so when I get a chance i’m going to go try some turret play with my engineer. I’m willing to be proven wrong. I want to see how it goes and see if I AM wrong or not.
Turrets do not inherit stats outside of condition damage and healing power (for the longest of times our healing turret provided a 5hps regeneration which overwrote actual useful regeneration). This was the problem with the turretpochalypse. Turreters saw no reason not to go full defensive since it still didn’t affect their damage output. On the other hand the turrets surviveability where also based on having what amounts to permanent berserkers stance and stone heart.
And do not base your judgement on open world. It is probably possible to kill stuff with hidden flask procs in open world without much sweat.
snort, i’ve sometimes just hit the 1 button and walked away to get a drink or make a sammich lol
Hm, they don’t inherit stats from the players. Maybe that’s part of the problem? If they started with a base stat line and upgraded…. well, I dunno.
And therefore, that theory down the drain! LOL
Ok, well, thanks for correcting me on that. So much for my much vaunted theory crafting, grrr…
And therefore, it sounds like turrets and gyros both might need some buffing, but since turrets obviously havent had them, I suppose it’s not likely to get them.
