I do not feel like it is a chore. A chore is doing dishes, washing your car and ironing your clothes. i.e something that is not pleasant but has to be done.
Nothing in GW2 is a chore, you are entirely free to do whatever you want in the game.
Sometimes I do dailies sometimes I don’t.
Sometimes I run around the map and level alts, sometimes I camp dragons and talk nonsense in map chat.
Sometimes I do JP
It is all my choice, this is the most freedom I have ever had in a game and I love it.
Charrs love meat.= Meatoberfest ;P
I redid my Engi- I like the result
T2 coat and gloves
T1 pants and boots (sandals)
Starter goggles
Condition necromancer, you’re basically a walking plaque, locust and vermin and pestilence follow you. You never feel more vulnerable then when you’re horribly ill. I think they’re a better representation of a death-centric mage, even corrupting themselves to spread more “disease”. Thematically they’re a dark and interesting class.
Ohhh those creep the kitten out of me whenever I see one passing by- I think it might have to do with the sound….
Mesmer- pink butterflies.
Someone had to say it
I love Engineers with their gadgets too, it is a tie for me
I wish I didn’t have to do a dungeon to finish it, before that it was fun:)
Same here- I enjoyed it but I won’t see the end now.
I was really hoping that the end dungeon scaled like the Rox and Barham instances because I just did those solo those no problems.
if Anet would consider scaling all the dungeons to the amount of players I would be the happiest person in Tyria.
Destiny’s Edge can lend a hand
hi- I suck so hard at ele that I still have this problem at lvl58.
this is what I can tell you:
In GW2 elementalist plays a bit differently than your standard caster class.
Attunement swapping is essential and you are really hampering yourself if you only stick to one or two.
Weapon choices make a huge difference in play style so check them all out.
I found that I survived best by using either sceptre/focus or staff.
My husband plays a dagger/dagger ele but I am not mobile enough and because it is in melee range it needs to be very very mobile
Try and upgrade your gear every 5 lvls or so- it is cheap and it can help
Ahhh I think you mean new build- they do that when they patch so that you have time to finish up what you are doing.
I love playing around with armours in the game and I am sure they will add more as time goes on- as it is it is costing me a fortune but I just can’t help myself
You should check out the mix and match thread for some ideas
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Post-a-pic-of-your-character-only-if-your-armor-is-mix-n-match
hi and welcome to the game.
1. I am not sure what you mean by slow, since I have never found it so- it does take time to get used to so maybe this is the case for you?
2. Generally low level sets come in 3 skin varieties that you can get via the personal story, one of those, I think, also a drop in the world.
You can get different skins from crafting and some heart vendors also sell nice skins.
Generally the variety opens up after lvl 35 or so when you will also have access to the Tier1 cultural skins.
3. Many people want this and they said they are working on it so it will come at some point. When I need help I generally just ask in map chat and that has worked for me.
As for a new class- where did you hear that? I would love to know since I didn’t think one was planned at this time- would be awesome though
Hope you have tons of fun!
I have never hit DR- here is a solution for you:
play the maps collects any mats, sure you can play on a map that would give you what you want.
Sell all the mats you collected and buy the specifics you need off the tp to make up shortfall.
So far that has worked great for me and even made me money
Hardcore players care about game mechanics. They write guides, analyze data, provide feedback, create spreadsheets and make videos for the community to see.
Casual players turn on the game in the same way they turn on a TV or a radio. They use it for their enjoyment and then turn it off when they don’t need it.People who are vocal about the game actually care about the game; even if their arguments are irrational. Their opinions and feedback matter. Why? Because casual players don’t care.
Casual players don’t post on forums. Don’t talk with others on voip, don’t type anything in chat, don’t write guides, don’t find exploits, don’t abuse game mechanics, don’t provide feedback and just generally don’t care about pretty much anything.
Woah there, casual players do care, post on the forums, talk with others, provide feedback, type in chat and care about mechanics etc.
They have less time to play and mostly play games for enjoyment.
That is all.
They don’t (mostly not) throw a tantrum when their min max numbers are off, make groups looking for 4zerk warriors + mesmer to run a dungeon in 7 min- because time is money, they mostly don’t exploit, they don’t confuse the game with a job or think that their in-game achievements impact their lives in the slightest.
Since when is it a crime to play a game as a game or heaven forbid to have commitments so that you can’t play 24/7?
Newsflash- a really big segment of the gaming market is made up of casual players.
I’m new to Guildwars 2. Can someone please tell me the first few things I should do when I start. I don’t want to waste my time and roam around doing pointless stuff. Thanks
Roaming around doing random stuff is exactly what you should do to get a good feel for the game.
On the other-hand if you think it is pointless- just rush any class to 80, be warned that the game doesn’t magically change once you hit cap- hence no point in rushing.
Seriously in answer to your question:
Get gathering tools as soon as you can along with salvage kits.
Gather everything and either keep it to craft or sell on the trading post for cash.
Salvage all whites and vendor all blues and greens or sell on the tp depending on which is more profitable.
Do your personal story as close to lvl as you can since you get good xp and free gear to help you along.
Get white versions of all the weapons usable by your class and unlock all the skills before you decide which to settle on, as different weapons sets changes playstyle dramatically.
Hope this helps somewhat.
I totally agree.
People take these forums specifically way too seriously.
My husband never comes here and he is oblivious to all the drama, he just plays the game- I doubt he noticed any of the things people here are saying ruins the game.
If he sees something new in game he goes- Oh cool, new stuff.
If a skill has been changed he says -Did they change it? oh ok.
It is a game and we play for fun.
See guys, I just went to LA to chill and do a bit of RP and a “GM” a Dev, or some kind of Anet employee was there in game playing around and RP’ing with us. It’s cool to see stuff like that; for Anet to mingle with the community and whatnot.
Keep it up guys. I hope this game lasts for years and years, sees many expansions and a high population increase. Make some commercials, and grow the community even more, I say. More people means more “bad” people, so take a zero tolerance stance to blatant insulting, bullying, sexism, racism, etc..
I also love the challenge in this game. I might actually die out in the world! I don’t need to dedicate my life to a raiding guild (and submit to its leadership) to get a challenge….
kitten good game. Even if the newness wears off and in a month I get bored and uninstall this for good (which I highly doubt), I still say kitten good game.
That is awesome- I would love to see a dev hanging but on a Eu server that is not very likely. I love the fact that they play their own game
It’s okay to be critical of the game.
But why does so many people feel it’s necessary to throw in the “Game is obviously dying” statement? To lend some semblance of credibility to your criticism? (Game is dying -> my opinions that certain things are broken obviously are correct.)
Air out your criticism by itself. If it’s well written and well thought-out, it will stand by its own merits, without you having to resort to this “Game is dying” hoolaboo.
Maybe “game is dying” means something else to you than it does to me. I’ll change up in my post specifically what I mean by that, because a lot of people seem to be taking offense or something to this statement.
What I mean by “dying” simply this: Activity is decreasing. I don’t think really anyone can argue with that.
Oh but you see, I can and do argue with that- you say activity has decreased- I honestly think that people in large-ish guilds who don’t see anyone from the guild online 24/7 use this as a crutch to claim ohhh the game is dying.
Me?
I have always been the only one in my little guild online so I look to activity in the game to see for myself.
What do I see?
People, people everywhere.
No matter what map, what hour there are people.
Always if it is a fairly random, out of the way map, you have one guy asking “is anyone there” within a min he usually has 20 replies. Heck we even had a guy ask in overflow the other day if anyone from our server was on.
I see LFG for dungeons everywhere I go and before you ask -not just fractals and CoF p1.
More in the line of “yo, guys wanna hit a dungeon?”
I read your post and I am actually wondering if we are playing the same game.
I have run into actual zergs just this week in Diessa- someone must be finding the Living Story interesting.
So no- from my perspective the game is not dying nor is activity decreasing, if anything it seems to be growing.
It is also evolving in that people who have been playing since the start, mostly want to continue and are building relationships and play-styles that suit them.
Then you have the horde of new players.
The game seems to be settling in to a nice semi-stable player base that like being around each other.
Very interesting post OP.
I hope you have you have many many fun hours playing
That sounds really awesome great idea- I really like the idea of spectator skills- in some personal stories you have something like it if you team up with another person.
hey maybe some of the “gladiators” will become real crowd favourites.
A booky system would also be awesome.
I like it
I usually spend quite some time ressing, buffing controlling etc when I do events- especially if it is a large event.
Yesterday I got in on the tail end of Claw and literally spent the entire time getting people back up- I think I hit him once.
I still got gold.
I love Mystic Forge weapons and some of them are just amazing.
I second adding more recipes to the forge.
I would even suggest adding recipes for weapons currently only available through RNG,
Make it expensive, make it hard to get the items- but make it a recipe.
Dregehaunt Cliffs- I love the brooding quality the map has and the convoluted terrain.
Fire Heart Rise- It is so unique and the contrast between the beautiful country and the structures are very striking I love the meteors.
Mount Maelstrom- It is very diverse, lots of resources. a volcano, stunning views and a cool meta
Timberline Falls- has a lonely feeling to me and visually it reminds me of Heidi-a show I watched as a kid
Sparkfly Fen- I like the lushness and the Hylek Villages.
Have a nice time
It is a very fun game
Warrior
Strong armour, strong healing, strong damage – it’s all-round face-roll in PvE compared to the other classes. If you fail at warrior you’re a bad player and should feel bad
hahahaha! I must really suck because both my warrior and my guardian spent sooo much time dead!
Seriously, I do suck at melee based classes :P
I don’t feel bad at all though
My suggestion would be to use a gaming mouse and map your keys to different profiles.
For solo PvE definitely Ranger and Engineer, at least that is what I found
Mesmer since the betas.
I adore her, she is great fun and I played her exclusively for about 5 months.
Then I rolled an Engineer and she was a blast literally
She is 80 too and I play her a lot so I guess I might have two mains now.
My ranger is only at lvl 40 but she is so much fun that she will be a strong contender.
@ OP I agree with you.
I have been caught by tiering in the past and I really wish it would be removed, while not bait and switch it is very demoralising.
I am currently stuck on exactly those audio logs.
But Meh I have only gotten one monthly ever so missing one really won’t kill me.
I was however planning on making my ranger a Mystic Claymore and needed the extra coins.
The Norn already have shape shifting powers as a racial, it is not great but it is there.
As others have said it doesn’t fit the lore and it also kind of goes against the whole premise that your character is a hero, if you implement "shunned " powers.
You will notice that there are no bad player characters.
I do like the idea of the dragon powers though and using that against the dragon minions.
To be honest your idea reminded me of a single player game called Divinity II RDK- that was a very cool game .
steampunk legendary bow that folds out, has cogs etc. – shoots arrows with a clockwork sound and animation imo
That would be legendary indeed.
Still Kudzu would be amazing on my Sylvari :P
verdant theme.. and any other theme actually goes perfectly with asura. they tinker with everything. verdant weapons could be result of some asuran biological experiment
I can see what you are saying but naw, I can’t really agree.
Oh they do tinker with everything but to me verdant weapons seem more like it was grown by Sylvari like their armour, their homes etc.
Asura seem to me to be more the mysterious, glowy, hovering, cubist types :P
I don’t recall seeing even a remotely biological looking device made by an Asura anywhere.
Maybe Sylvari haven’t been around long enough to really have cultural weapons of their own, so they are borrowing from the closest race to them geographically.
That would not explain why the Asura use verdant weapons.
I know they share territory but the verdant theme do not really suit the Asura, in the same way that glyphic weapons seem out of sync with the Sylvari.
It would be really nice if the two races could each have a complete set.
I am a sucker for cultural armour and weapons.
Lack of horizontal/ cosmetic progression and variety.
Skins in RNG boxes
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I usually salvage with Black Lion Kits and I get awesome results.
I ran out yesterday and started salvaging with Master Kits, the results were so bad that I decided to save up and just buy more BLK.
I know it is rng- but I was quite shocked at how bad it was.
Now my only conundrum is that if I convert all the gold I made last week to buy more Kits, I’ll be right back where I started and by the time I made it back- I’ll be out of Kits again
If whatever “requirements” there are to achieve these items are too steep of a price for you to pay so what, what skin is it off your back. Are you simply afraid that the folks that do achieve the better items will then have an UNFAIR advantage over you in PVP? I feel sorry for you, really I do.
So…because you have no life…sit at home all day playing a video game, you should have better rewards than those that can only put in a few hours of the day after work? Because honest, hardworking people that have lives don’t deserve anything nice in a game they might enjoy playing in what little free time they can devote to it? I gotcha, you feel entitled to something nicer because you put ‘more time.’ Skill > Time.
As for “unfair advantage in pvp”…by nature, a competitive game (such as player vs player) must have equal footing and enforceable rules in order to accurately determine a clear winner or loser. Gear advantage skews this, and while this isn’t terribly obvious in GW2, it is in other games like WoW. Getting your kitten handed to you because you didn’t have hours to grind the latest amazing gear level (or even while trying to grind that latest gear level) is NOT enjoyable. If you think it is, go roll a new toon in WoW, level up to 15 and go play AB in base PvE armor for a few hours and see how you feel. Maybe it makes you feel wonderful, getting beaten down over and over again (and talked kitten to), but for most normal human beings, we feel pretty crappy. We do not want this in GW2!
Okay make all PVE dungeon/raid gear default to static stats when entering PVP. The game already auto levels anyhow. No big deal.
It does in sPvP, which I’m good with. Dungeons it doesn’t need to because there is a cap to armor, as there should be. It worked wonderfully in GW1, it can work just as well here.
What then is the issue with having gear progression?
The issue with gear progression (generally) is that it’s required to access content; content that players get locked out of at later times because people have moved on. I’ve experienced this personally in WoW. I only started playing WoW last year. Started in January, was totally burnt out and hated the game by July. Why? Because every guild I joined, I couldn’t play with any of the members. I wasn’t a high enough level. I didn’t have the right gear. So on and so forth. In 7 months I killed myself grinding 3 characters to max, bored to tears running the same dungeon over and over and over again, to armor up so I could join my guild members – 1 healer, 1 dmg, 1 tank. So I could fit into any role they might need. It wasn’t fun. It wasn’t enjoyable. Not to mention the kitten I got from my dungeon groups for not having ‘x’ or ‘y’ skill, or armor, or not knowing the path because I’d never played before, or what have you. And, while yes, sometimes I got help on some of the grind from my guildies, most of them were too busy with their own grinds to be able to help. I don’t know about others, but I don’t want that in GW2. I don’t want others to suffer for hours being made to feel like they aren’t ‘good enough’ or treated like kitten because they aren’t up to speed on the gear treadmill.
The answer is there is No issue – other than a group of people who feel slighted because someone is able to do something they are not.
I am not willing or able to have it so by the alimighty neither shall you…that’s what you are saying.
Yes, there is an issue with gear treadmills, at least with how the treadmills and gated content has been implemented in other games, as many have pointed out (some rather rationally, and politely – me not included, I know I’m cranky). There are alternatives to what you seek in simpler solutions, but those don’t seem to be good enough answers for you. Like many who refuse to hear arguments in favor of gear treadmills, you’re equally as bigoted about accepting logical, reasonable arguments against it.
slow clap
@ OP- you have been told repeatedly in this thread why many people do not want tiered gear.
You seem unable to accept the quite rational arguments given against it.
At this point all I can say is that maybe you should find a game that caters to your tastes, because this game is not what you want currently.
I really really hope that it will never become what you want.
So, as answer to your “honest question”, this game is not for you and your guild and you will never enjoy it. You are better off finding a game you enjoy and leaving the game we have now to the people who do enjoy it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together
you might want to look at this
Mesmer has been nerfed since the game launched, again and again.
Even back in the day when everyone thought Mesmer was a weak class and couldn’t cross the road without dying :P
As a Main mesmer who plays PvE -I say separate PvE and pvP already!
Those mechanics you guys moan about are what keeps me alive- do you have any idea how slowly a Mesmer kills?
I am sick of PvP people shouting nerf Mesmer and paying the price.
I honestly think magic find is a placebo.
All my chars are allergic to it, even as food
I honestly wish I could afford them on the TP or otherwise.
This month is tight for me in game and elsewhere :P
I really hope they release more dyes like this in the future, it is a really nice addition.
edit: Yes we need to be able to buy it outright. buy the gems , buy the product. \
NO rng
So how long after Rift launched was it before Trion added player housing? It’ll get here when it gets here.
Except it was firts promised to be in the game, then promised to be added really soon. Then we hear they’re not even working on it, and we’re still waiting.
Ummm, no. They never promised Guild Halls or player housing would be in at launch. The ONLY reference to it is that one Martin Kerstein quote from Guru, in which he replied that they’d come at the same time, most likely in an expansion.
Are you sure? I have a dim memory of someone somewhere saying that initially it was planned for launch but as time got closer it was delayed but will be in after.
Sure no-one said when exactly but it did sort of create an expectation among players, which is why we have had these threads since launch.
Clearly it is something that many people would love to have.
I don’t think it is unrealistic to say in the first expansion but that seems odd to me since it was very much an idea from the start- at least that is how I recall it.I followed this game very closely for a long time. While there’s a possibility that I’ve misremembered some things (especially at my age), I very specifically remember the questions about it, and Martin Kerstein’s response.
They’d never planned Guild Halls or housing for launch.
hehe -well I did too but I know my memory is not the best and it is not all to do with age . 41 is not that old afterall
I could have sworn I read it somewhere- no harm.
I really do hope we get it at some point, I would prefer sooner but realistically it will probably be later.

If GW2 philosophy is to make a game so a player who plays the game for 5-10 hours a week can have the same gear, look, and capabilities as someone who invests 30 hours a week – then GW2 will FAIL.
This is my idea of the perfect MMO.
Bonus: immature and elitist kids have a kitten because they can’t be better than everyone else just because they spend 12 hrs a day pressing buttons and leave.
I am no kid, far from it. And for you to assume that I am, and a bad player simply because I want the game to provide more progression features is also incorrect. I’m a John Gault like person – your a Karl Marx like person. That’s the difference.
skill, age has nothing to do with this argument. the argument is about content, or in GW2’s case the lack thereof. And why would anyone be opposed to Arena making higher level content that requires more investment, more skill, more achievement. Doing so doesnt detract from the casual player at all..
Unless the casual player is kitten off because they cant have the same thing for a lot less investment- for less work. We should call these folks welfare gamers instead of casual gamers – because that’s what you’re advocating.
nevermind that you call people who don’t spend their entire life in the game welfare players…
What I don’t understand is that you keep insisting that GW2 provide you with things that it is specifically designed not to do?
You seem to be beating your head against a wall for no reason.
Either accept the game for what it is and try to enjoy it, or if you cannot, find a game that gives you the things you want.
Many people play and like this game for exactly the reasons you don’t.
Why should they be swept aside for players like you?
Because they are casual?
This game has a lot of content- just not the type you want.
I also see many many people while I’m playing, all having a great time, so the model seems to be working honestly.
No OP, I am not annoyed, in fact I think it is really awesome and it shows the incredible creativity and dedication of the staff who works for Anet.
This kind of thing does a lot for productivity since employees who are having fun often give much more than those who are not.
The humans are supposed to have a shooting range and a bar brawl- I would really like a bar brawl.
Guild wars is more about the lore then having a true war of guild even in GW1 the war was over.
They have added in guild mission that is a major guild mechanic.
Player housing is your person story you just cant buy any thing for it its more of a base off your chose.
As for guild housing its going to be hard to get once they put it out. A guild is going to have to work for it most likely though guild mission. So i hope you have an active guild because once they add them in (i am sure they will just a matter of time) its going to take time to upgrade to that point.
This is exactly why I want Player Housing and couldn’t care less about Guild Halls.
Since they added they Guild content I have pretty much stopped bothering researching anything on my 4 man guild.
As far as I am concerned it’s only purpose now is to provide me with personal storage and to stop guild spam.
I am really glad that players in big Guilds got stuff they can do together, don’t get me wrong, it is my own choice not to join a big guild.
Player Housing on the other hand is something for my own character that I can develop for my own enjoyment.
It would add a really nice personal layer to the game and provide a connection to the world that I think many players need.
Depends on your profession. If you are a ranger or engineer and you play PvE, delete your character.
If you are a necro or thief, play PvP.
For the rest, berzerker.
hhahaha- my Engi at 90 is my favourite and I’m leveling a ranger :P
OP depends on your profession and playstyle.
My main mesmer runs GS/Staff in full Carrion gear
My engi runs Rampagers gear and sigils of bloodlust on pistols
my Ranger is only level 40 so I’m undecidedYour eng is way too OP. My eng only goes up to 80 :p Honestly, play what you like. Because even if you’re playing in the most efficient manner (zerker), if you’re not enjoying, it really isn’t worth it.
Good investments would be t3 cultural armor (if you like the skin). But that’s my opinion only :p
ohhh early morning typo that
fixed it

Op I agree with you to an extent because that is how I understood the idea of endgame in gW2 and that is how I play and what I enjoy.
You are going to get burned though by players who don’t agree for whatever reasons seem valid to them.
There are also an alarming amount of players who want rewards for everything or it is not worth doing.
Sadly this idea seems very much entrenched in the more traditional MMO mindset.
I do hope that Anet continues to add to the world in terms of developing the DE’s and driving the story of Tyria through that and the idea of a Living World- that we have seen only the start of.
I can think of dozens of things that would be far more interesting than player housing. To start with: Guild Halls. Which should mean GvG, as well.
You’ve got a “home” instance if you feel like hanging out somewhere all by yourself…
I don’t think people who want player housing particularly “want a place where they can hang out all by themselves.”
I think you misunderstand what player housing is for and why it appeals to people.
Essentially the way I see it is something that is yours that you can customize to your liking, showing the spoils of your adventures etc.
It is a way for the player to invest in the game on an emotional level and gives something to do that provides a break from fighting much like the missing mini games, jumping puzzles etc.
It is also a great opportunity to make use of various crafting professions and provides opportunities for gem store content that is purely fluff.
I would also dearly love it if I didn’t have to sit in my house by myself but could invite friends
@ Clay- we get that you are dissatisfied and you feel you don’t trust Anet. You think GW1 was the bee’s knees etc.
OP: I have no doubt that player housing and guild halls are coming at some point.
My guess would be with the first expansion but I do not rule out that they might surprise us and add it sooner.
My interest is more along the lines of how it will be implemented.
I love DE’s.
What I would like to see is more chain DE’s- spanning over maps, more complicated DE’s that have various branches and outcomes.
A general improvement in Event density in some maps.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if there were so many events going off that players had to choose which ones to complete and then have consequences for that choice?they do exist. In this game. In Orr as mentioned above.
The only way to make these choices is though organized DE Raid Groups, but I have never seen such a group yet.
Nor have I seen any guild willing to even try
Yes sorry it is early in the morning for me, not expressing myself well.
I know that they exist- I simply meant it as a example of the type of DE’s that I enjoy and would like to see more of.
DE’s are one of my favourite parts of the game and I love them.
I like long complicated chains/webs because the story involved are almost always interesting and I like the way they move around the map.
Orr is one of my favourite zones because of the event density.
As you said though people are not really interested, used to be better but not so much now with the big loot pinatas :P
