My Ranger says “no no no” when her pet dies or “I’ll save you” when it is on low health.
I love it when she explores a new place and says “I’ll pass this on to the Pale Tree”
My Mesmer uses the line “this rose has thorns…” often.
I can swear one of them said “I am amazing” the other day
started out as a human cuz humanity is awesome and mesmer at launch. deleted it cuz i developed a burning hatred for gw2 mesmers in pvp
remade the mesmer but this time asura cuz asura are awesome! deleted that one though cuz i hated mesmers in pvp
i got beaten by this one particular guardian in paid tournament and i was like omg guardians are amazing dem blue attacks o dem spirit wep o dat defense o
i tried to play one then i was like omg guardians suck fern hounds! DELETE!made a ranger human enjoyed it in pvp but i grew fond of my time as an asura so deleted it for an asura ranger
ended up missing humans and i missed my gw ele so i deleted my ranger and made an ele WORST DECISION EVER! i developed a burning hatred for eles and was sad that there were so many humans and most of them looked like mine
so i deleted that one
made a human + asura ranger for pvp lol was happy for a few months then i got beaten by a necro and was in awe i lost to many necro before him but he beat me with style lol
so i made a human necro to learn the class in pvp i ran into another human that looked like me so i deleted
made a sylvari necro despite the fact i cant stand them but i felt unique at the time and that made me happy
been pvping as a necro since and i’m sorted though most of my friends are necro though so when i team up with them i go ranger.
Hahahaha! this post made me laugh awesome,
I can well understand a burning hatred for some classes.
My deletions come from a complete inability to play anything in a melee range, I suck at even Warrior/ Guardian, don’t mention Thief or D/D Ele to me.
That and rolling a class I like as a race I hate.
I’m happy with my current set-up.
Humans:
Mesmer
Engi
Ele
Sylvari:
Mesmer
Ranger
Claw island is hard for a mesmer- try to complete the objectives without trying to kill everything because I don’t actually think they ever stop spawning.
As for risen in general, they are a pain. My mesmer actually copes with them much easier that my other classes.
I run GS/ Staff. The staff is great for this: nr5 chaos storm AOE/ defense, nr 2 skill jumps you back, puts a clone in your place and creates a shield
GS does most at a distance and if you get swamped use nr 5, swap to staff.
Having max clones and phantasms up helps a lot to keep aggro away from you and you have shatter fodder to spread the pain around.
Feedback bubble works great against ranged and use either null field or phantasmal disenchanter for getting rid of conditions.
OK so ignoring the sub-text in this thread.
My main is a Mesmer I recreated from the betas.
I found the class extremely fun to play so I went with that and she was my first 80.
Since then I tried all classes and deleted some because I hated them.
My second most fun class and my second 80 is my Engineer.
She is all steampunky in leather, scales and feathers.
I recently made a Sylvari Ranger that I love.
My others are a Sylvari Mesmer, Human Ele. both in the 60’s
Add duelling in Arenas in the majour cities.
Add spectator mode, bam! Problem solved.
I see spontaneous costume brawls often and as soon as one starts many people join in. Someone throws a cauldron and next thing you know it is a free for all dance party, fireworks, box of fun BRAWL with people zooming around naked on broomsticks.
It is always great fun and people love it.
I have yet to see anyone in game saying at a costume brawl- oh this is silly I wish we had duels. Or anywhere else but these boards for that matter.
I may be the only one but I’m happy with my supply crate, and my boyfriend’s (thief) ninjas are really making quite a difference, too. Before attacking a champion or anything else that would be a challenge we wait for our skills to reset and it makes a big difference.
So I don’t know, maybe I don’t have the same expectations as some other people here, but I’m happy.
I am happy too, I love my elites, specifically my racial elites.
My ranger is a Sylvari and take root is awesome, 3 secs invulnerability and then some turrets?
I use Hounds Of Balthazar on my Mesmer because I find it more useful than time warp.
My Engi uses supply drop, awesome in itself.
I have lost count of how many times a well placed elite skill saved me from death, or given me time to res others to continue the battle.
Underwater elites need some work imo.
First thing i thought of was a Mesmer. They are a lot of fun to play (cool animations as well) and are usually in demand for parties. Mesmers have a lot of skills that benefit people around them the main ones that are expected for you to have would be timewarp (maybe not as much since the patch) and portal in wvw.
I second Mesmer. It is an incredibly fun class, very versatile, great survivability and great utility.
You can adapt it to any playstyle and Mesmers are good at all parts of the game.
I like mesmers so much I have two, my main is a full condition specced/geared monster and my second Mesmer is specced for power, precision, crit. They play very differently as a result.
Some people REALLY LIKE gear progression. Actually…a LOT of people do. Look at “the other game” for an example of that. Massive subscriber base (dwarfs GW2s active players)…all centered around gear progression.
It’s not really a “need”, but more of a “want”. People want progress at some form or another.
…
So is it necessary to make a fun experience? Maybe not. But do people want it? Yep. What matters now (and what separates gw2 with other mmos) is the form of that progression and rate of progress. Both of you are probably right, but still your statement is probably not true for the majority of GW2 players. Most people playing “that other MMO” might want vertical progression but most people playing GW2 really hate it.
Having vertical progression in your game is fine if your player base is okay with it, if they don’t like it, which GW2 players clearly don’t – just take a look at the ascended gear kitten storm in November – forcing it down their throats is a bad idea.I’m talking about progression in general, not necessarily gear progression (with the understanding that gear progression here means vertical progression). The only reason people hated t he ascended fiasco is that it was introduced after the game was launched, introducing the idea that there “might” be more tiers in the future. If this was introduced at the start, I don’t think people would have a problem with it. (but then, fractals weren’t introduced until the later part).
Let’s not kid ourselves, ascended gear was introduced precisely because the gear progression players were so vocal on the forums.
Fractals, a direct result of this, was a problem because it sucked people out of the maps, either because they liked it , or because they felt they had to farm it for the new best gear.
Every bad player experience, overflows, camping bosses, zerging starter areas etc. comes from that one addition to the game.
Trying to balance and spread the impact since then
Horizontal progression?
More skins for weapons, armour, more activities like mini games, more customization options, GvG, player housing, etc etc.
Stuff people have been asking for since launch.
Hence the problem with horizontal progression. Going after different “skins” is great, but you can only wear one set of armor at the time. Eventually you’re going to settle on what you like, and then what? There’s nothing else to do on a character.
Except play the whole of the game?
just a suggestion
I enjoy my Mesmer and my Egi most- both human.
Currently I’m leveling a Sylvari ranger and so far she is a hoot as well.
I saw a human recently with Sylvari cultural armour. It definitely was not TA armour and it looked so nice that I have been wondering how to do it since then.
I am not sure if the transmute to white trick will work and I am too cheap to try it out. ( ah I see it doesn’t) But clearly it can be done- I just don’t know how.
If you see them again, see if you can get a picture. Or better yet, if they are willing to pose for a front/right/back/left set.
I tried taking a pic but the player ported away- maybe he/she thought I was being weird :P
I remember the character name so I’ll add him and give very polite whisper.
I am dying to know how it was done.
Some people suggested Mesmer and my main is a mesmer so I can agree that it is an awesome class.
You have five slots try both ele and mesmer- with as many weapon combo’s as you can to find what works best for you.
I run my Mesmer with GS/Staff btw and she can survive anything, while melting faces
I would love to be good as a D/D ele but I just plain suck, while my husband rocks!
^ what happened there? ^ I never said half of that lol
It’s been fixed. And yea, the manifesto thing is a joke, best let that slide on by lol.
The manifesto gets bandied about by both sides on this forum.
It is incidentally why I bought the game and I got exactly what I expected.
I haven’t been disappointed, I haven’t been “betrayed”, I got precisely what I wanted from a game.Sorry you don’t feel that way.
I didn’t bring up the manifesto. As for GW2, it is what it is and either you like it or you don’t.
There is a whole world of games out there to try, it blows my mind that if people don’t like something they don’t go try something else.
Not all people in the world like ice cream, the universe is not going to implode because of it- eat a cookie instead :PSorry, I wasn’t saying I didn’t believe in the manifesto…In fact I’m just gonna shut up. It’s too early for me to talk apparently. I meant I liked pretty much everything they did with GW2 except the lack of trinity, but I don’t think having trinity would work with GW2, so that is fine with me
hehe I seem to be in the same boat today – I’ll take your example and have some coffee instead
Looks like the cargo cult of game design is out in full swing in this thread. Gear grind bad. Trinity bad. Large group content bad. So sayeth a manifesto from years ago!
I’ve yet to see the grand developer vision in action in providing a revolutionary alternative to the status quo.
That is ironic because I very much see it in action- it is called GW2 and yes, it is kind of revolutionary when you look at the status quo of gear progression, raids, and trinity.
As far as I can tell, the Emperor is naked.
And you are entirely entitled to this opinion.
So are the people who like the game as it is.
My point was that there are many games who cater to the needs of the OP- GW2 is the alternative for people who don’t like that kind of gameplay for whatever reasons.
This certainly does make GW2 kind of unique.
You have only to look at MMO’s coming out now to see just how much this game has influenced the genre in a very short while.

nevermind kill stealing, loot stealing and ganking.
My word it is very much a revolution :P
OP: if you have been playing since the betas surely you should know that GW2 was never supposed to have gear progression as you describe it?
The addition of ascended gear in Nov and the absolute kitten storm it caused should tell you this.
The idea that you need better and better gear to progress or show how good you are is an idea that many many of the GW2 player base came to this game to get away from, that will not change.
Anet may choose to add more gear tiers in the future but I predict that the juice will not be worth the squeeze for them to do that because it will alienate the players that remained after the Nov fiasco.
You say you can’t see what to do at max level without gear progression?
That is another mindset carried over from years of playing traditional MMO’s it has no place in GW2.
Unless you can come to terms with the game for what it is, you will never enjoy it- in which case you and your guild will be far better off finding a game that does meet your needs.
GW2 Meets the needs of many players just as it is, that is why we play
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Since the chest-once-per-account-per-boss patch, I am not sure if people are actually camping bosses. People seem to be hitting them once in rotation.
Even so if is still a ridiculous fight because it lasts a min max.
The very simple reason for this is guaranteed loot for min effort- I am sure no-one particularly likes playing like this.
I like the idea of complicated chains to result in bosses with a reward at the end ( Harathi) and it is clever to track event participation.
I would like to see many more such chains across the game, however I can see some people saying that time investment to do the events don’t match up to the reward at the end so they kill timed bosses instead.
This is sad and I think will not be remedied until loot drop across the board are revisited.
Not necessarily increased but standardised (?) so that you know if you kill a vet you get x or kill a champ you get y.
I am not expressing myself well today :P but I hope you get what I’m saying.
I am on GH too and I find it very busy, especially the starter zones with exception of Metrica Province and possibly Plains of Ashford (haven’t been there recently)
People are around even if it doesn’t seems so, just try calling an event in map chat and you will see. The only times I really see only 2-3 people is early in the workday.
Prime time there is usually at least 20- 30 people doing random stuff in the starter zones.
Many many more for a boss like SB.
Queensdale is generally a hub of folks running around and just talking nonsense.
I played during betas as well and when the game launched I had a bit of what you describe because I had played the low level content so much in the betas.
I got over it by realising that there is nothing chasing me and I am not going to be kicked from the game when the beta ends- like I was used to. So I slowed down and just immersed myself in the world. BTW my main is a Mesmer I have been playing since launch.
I can’t help you if you consider leveling a grind though- to me that is just playing the game.
You have it- so try it out at a leisurely pace and just enjoy yourself- if you are too goal driven to do that I am not sure if you will ever really enjoy the game and that is the truth.
The combat is simple on the surface but there is more to it, so you can not really say that you are going to spam the same skills over and over- in fact skill spamming will result in your death, especially if you play a Mesmer.
Combat is situational so you have to be aware of your surroundings and play accordingly.
Hearts are a very small part of the game and their main purpose is to get you used to how Dynamic Events trigger and work.
The “endgame” is hotly debated but the truth is that for some type of players there will never be “endgame”
They stated during development that the whole game is endgame and the down-leveling mechanic supports this very well.
If you expect some magical game to appear only once you hit 80, you will be disappointed.
That said if you like making your own goals you will never run out of things to do.
I have been 80 since Sept and I have never been bored.
It all depends on what you like to do in games and whether or not GW2 offers that for you.
Good luck
I read this and immediately thought: dual dagger Elementalist.
You get 4 elements to play with, you get CC in the form of chill, cripple, knock back, knock down, leap attacks, always be in close range with the enemy and with the low armour you’ll have to stay on the move to keep yourself alive.
I second D/D Elementalist- It sounds exactly like what you are looking for.
Mine does as well and both have light coloured skin
I saw a human recently with Sylvari cultural armour. It definitely was not TA armour and it looked so nice that I have been wondering how to do it since then.
I am not sure if the transmute to white trick will work and I am too cheap to try it out. ( ah I see it doesn’t) But clearly it can be done- I just don’t know how.
Funnest MMO I’ve ever played. I’ve had more laughs in this game, more smiles, more walking away from a game session happy than any other MMO I’ve ever played.
This! I love this game and I have been playing since betas.
I never grind. I have 2 80’s and 3 in their 60’s.
879 hours played
I always have a good and fun experience every time I log on, I am not bored in the slightest- I keep promising myself I’ll check out WvWvW but so far I haven’t gotten around to it yet because I have too much to do in PvE.
oh and to people going on about how disappointed GW1 players are.
Sure some of you are and you are certainly very vocal here, by no means all.
I have a friend who played an ungodly amount of hours in GW1, who bought GW2 because of that.
He is completely addicted to GW2.
He mostly plays PvP.
Sure he is just one guy, but the other side of the coin exists.
My ele
transmuted a neccro starting mask because I like the symetry with the tattoos
Vigil Shirt
Ascalon pants
Exotic boots from TP (easy to find there in that style)
Well done! That is the most bad kitten ele I have ever seen
I don’t know OP I love the combat in this game,
I find it fluid, intuitive and immersive.
I haven’t actually ever heard anyone complain about the combat in game.
Your thing with dodging I can’t relate to either because I assure you my character does dodge- I get a huge kick out of dodging melee only to see the hit swipe right past my character and for her to land on her feet, knockback and start shooting.
Or to roll towards an attack only to end up at the back of the enemy to land a backstab.
The combat is very action based regardless of tab targeting (which I don’t use)
The trinity- omg please no.
I have felt like a hero many many times since I started playing GW2.
It has nothing to do with story, stats or things like that.
What made me feel heroic is changing the tide in a battle, bringing down a group boss with 1-2 other players and hanging on by the skin of our teeth, some epic fights where I completed DE’s by myself against what felt like insane odds.
Stuff like that.
The fact that sometimes you are so very glad to see another player and you think " not this day" and just proceed who wipe over whatever tried to chew your face off a moment before..
What I find interesting is that people assume you are male even when you are a woman playing a female character.
No one will ever know the real statistics, many women myself included do not advertise our gender online.
To posters who say that cute elements, sims 3, and Facebook games appeal more to women- that is kind of insulting and a very archaic viewpoint imo.
I know women who excel at very competitive “male” oriented genres.
I think one of the main reasons why women don’t advertise in video games is exactly for this reason- they just don’t get taken seriously.
That goes for TS too, women I know avoid voice chat unless they personally know the people at the other end.
I also couldn’t care less if characters are running around in skimpy armour- I have never been offended by stuff like that.
One of my characters gets hit on quite a bit, and usually by people who then call me bro.
That is a bit weird but I don’t find it offensive
that gave me a laugh!
I honestly don’t care how you end your sentence, I have enough trouble spelling and fighting at the same time.
Often I have typed something, only to think later- what?- did I just type that with my feet?
If someone ends a sentence with a period, I’m not sure I would even notice let alone think it is arrogant.

I love your pink theme- awesome with your skin tone
It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.
We’re currently focusing our engineering (programmers, not guys with net guns) resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.
As always, please post your ideas of what you’d like to see solution wise, we love to see the fun ideas y’all come up with too!
Thank you Colin, your response is very much appreciated.
The issues you name are more wide reaching and has an impact on a much larger community.
It is nice to know that that you have our concerns on your list too.
I would suggest that you start over if you can bear to but that you find a good server with a nice, helpful, busy PvE community- this changes things considerably.
As far as I know you can transfer for free if you delete all your characters.
Edit I have never come across any of the things you mention, I have been playing on Gunnar’s Hold since betas: I have a lvl 80 Mesmer, Engineer.
I am currently leveling a Ranger- I have never seen profession hatred at all.
Also guesting is free- you can guest to 2 servers a day so you can check out which one is best for you. If you don’t want to delete your character you can earn gold to convert to gems for a paid transfer while you are deciding where you want to go.

I would give racial skills a purpose.
I don’t remember having ever seen a norn using an animal form…They are not supposed to be viable – otherwise we’d see racial advantages/disadvantages. Racial skills are for flavor and should probably stay that way.
They don’t give any flavour right now because they are so poorly designed that no one use them. Should they be removed form game, who would notice?
I don’t say make them strong, I just say give me a reason to unlock them, for example making them funny to use.I love my racial skills and I use them on all my characters. Just saying
You aren’t a norn, I suppose…
hehe no- Human and Sylvari
I would give racial skills a purpose.

I would redo the cash shop to add tons of fluff you can buy with gems- I would make everything in the RNG boxes available in the game and I would hire a team whose only job is to add ALL the skins!
I would get part of the live team/ design team or whatever working on getting the mini games added.
I would also say good job working on core features, please carry on.
Let’s have a brainstorm on how we are adding some quality of life features, like a slot for consumables.
OP: the truth is that in this game you can do any content with any class.
It is also a truth that you will always get kittens that say LFG: 4 zerker warrior, full exotic, asc trinkets, 1 experienced mes- ping gear when you join.
The beautiful thing is that you can pretty much ignore the above requests (unless you are interested) and happily carry on with playing how you like and with whatever class you prefer.
You can also make your own groups naturally.
Just to give you an example when the game launched people were crying how useless Mesmers are and how dead in PvE etc.
Now they are almost a requirement- just goes to show how perceptions change over time.
The most fun classes to me are ones with a fairly high skill ceiling and an interesting mechanic.
Warriors and Guardians bore me to tears and I deleted both.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I forgot about those!
The hair is also really cool- and if I look at that concept art it looks like a fan weapon for a mesmer.
What could be more cool than a fan as a weapon? Make it so
New Armour skins would be great and I would also be behind the idea of a more unique class look.
However I want this for Exotic skins not Ascended, even just skins with no stats will be fine.
Since I am one of those players that refuse to care about the existence of Ascended items, I will be extremely ticked off if they introduce new skins and I need to get on the bandwagon to get stats I don’t want, just to get skins I like.
Why should engis get special treatment!
I don’t know if this is a troll post but incase it is not – I suggest you read the thread.
no offense meant and I can’t help you.
Except for Ele, Engineers are the only class who do not have weapon swap.
We have exactly 3 weapons to choose from.
Ele’s have many more that, they generally rely on attunement swaps not conjured weapons as a class mechanic.
Engineers rely on either kits/ nets to augment their weapons- Actually most engineers hardly use their weapons- this is the class mechanic much like attunements for Ele’s.Weapon swapping classes are more than free to craft a legendary for both sets. I am sure many have.
I guess you don’t play an Engineer much?
let’s dissect this statement(s) a bit.
Engineers want legendary kits because they … want them. I want legendary weapons, because I want them, too.
Elementalists don’t use their weapon summons, but Engineers use their kits. How about we nerf each Engineer weapon kits to 50% of the current strength. Then you don’t use them >80% anymore and everyone is happy.
Just because you WANT to use them, don’t expect the system to bend towards your desire. Just becuase elementalists USUALLY don’t focus on weapon summons, doesn’t mean they can’t. They’re multiple traits which favor such builds. Even supporting the party – unlike engineers.Engineer only has two weapons. Since YOU don’t like the shield. Elementalist only has two weapon sets, since I don’t like dagger and focus.
Engineer has three weapons and seven kits.
Elementalist has four weapons and five summoned weapons (not counting tornado ulti).Seriously, I see no reason to favor engineers’ kits over elementalists summoned weapons. Or even secondary weaponsets from other classes.
Why not equalize those dual hand weapons with two handed wearers? Make only main hand legendary-able and the offhand automatically becomes legendary, too ?
What? I read that twice..?
All we are asking is for the same choices everyone else has.
Is that so hard to understand?
I guess so.
Introducing Kawaratake – Hopefully the scariest looking sylvari you’ve ever seen!
Good grief!
He is creepy!
I really hope he is a necro
Actually most engineers hardly use their weapons- this is the class mechanic much like attunements for Ele’s.
Once again, this is conjecture. Neither you, nor anyone else not an ArenaNet employee, can say with any credibility “most engineers hardly use their weapons”.
I guess you don’t play an Engineer much?
My level 80 engineer gets as much playtime as any of my other four characters.
Let me clarify since from my entire post you choose to quote that.
When I say Hardly use their weapons I don’t mean I don’t use my pistols I do.
But if you look at the rest you will see I liken Engi kits to Ele attunements, so yes an Ele is hardly in one attunement all the time.
My pistols are one of my “weapon attunements”, my grenades and my flame thrower are the other “attunements”- so yes see it as weapon swap-
Other classes can craft a Legendary for their secondary set can they not?
To listen to you guys talk, you’d think the engineer doesn’t even have weapon skills. I guess it’s “kits or go home”? An engineer not seeing his Legendary while in kits is no different than any other profession not seeing Legendary while weapon swapping to something else. You guys really are making a big deal of nothing.
Except for Ele, Engineers are the only class who do not have weapon swap.
We have exactly 3 weapons to choose from.

No thank you. Last thing I want is people naked 24/7.
I see that anyway- you’d be amazed how many naked people are running around Orr, don’t get me started on the naked dance parties
Op: I second your idea and I don’t even have a norn! But I have 2 Sylvari and why should they wear clothes?
I like it
Would be better as a mesmer though- that is trickster armour if I ever saw any.
Imagine the clones- awesome!
I have an Engi which I love- she hit 80 about 2 weeks ago and I feel the lack of skins for engi’s very deeply.
Not that I am all eager to get a legendary but I can see that if you went through all the trouble to get one you at least want to see it.
I use Pistols, flame thrower and grenade kit. it would be great if an equipped legendary changes the skins on the kits ( someone mentioned that it does for the grenade kit?)- heck even just getting different skins as you level would make my day.
I don’t like Quip, I will never like Quip- while we are at it a nice pistol skin would be great- any skin, it does not even have to be Legendary, MF would be fine.
In Queensdale events are literally all over the place all of the time on my server (GH) and still you have people asking- sure you’ll get some one zoning in and asking BeHe up?
But often you have the same 2-3 people spamming chat for 20 min.
I don’t get that honestly people are linking events as fast as they go off.
It seems like some on my server either feels like Op or are just new but I loved it that the norm is now to link every event ( eda’s orchard, escort quests wheatfield you name it)
The result of this has been that you literally have a zerg of 80’s swarming a level 3 event- I don’t know whether to laugh or feel bad for new players- they must be thinking what ? just happened?
I am curious, tonight I log on to do map complete on Caledon and I can’t do anything.
I log on I disconnect.
I get in the game, my skills freeze and I disconnect,
I get back in and try to waypoint to the SP and my game completely shuts down and disconnects- I haven’t been able to load any map since.
What’s up?
All classes, really.
Try Mesmer though, great range, great survivability, great utility, very fun, hard to master.
Mesmer comes into it’s stride around lvl40 or so , so be warned.
I also find Engineer awesome for solo play because of it’s great versatility, good control, pretty survivable and decent support, it is also very fun.
Mesmer and Engi are my two favourite classes by far.
