There’s a trend here. The trend is that GW2 has lots of stuff to do, and I’m feeling forced to hop around from thing 1 to thing 2 because I’m, for some reason, not allowed to hunker down and farm.
yes that is called playing a game
Farming/grinding is in MMO players’ blood. Even though games figure out creative ways to avoid it at times, the majority of MMORPG players understand that some thing just take time. So we learn to put the game on TV, grab some lunchable snacks, and mindlessly farm for an hour or two on our own version of “autopilot”. I think if there’s nothing wrong with doing an event once, there’s nothing wrong with doing it every single time it’s up.
Are you freaking kidding me? Why in the name of all that is gaming would you want to do that? And then complain that you can’t? Play a game or watch tv- problem solved- the fact that you can’t seem to see that those 2 things are conflicting activities really scare the kitten out of me- and then you talk about how this is what you enjoy?
If you do- then I don’t know what to say to you.
I have never hit any kind of cap in this game but I guess that is because I actually play the game.
*And my biggest complaint remains: If i’m not doing anything WRONG here, at least give me the courtesy of a debuff. Right now, with no indication besides “man I don’t seem to be getting many greens or rares anymore”, I’m having to constantly ask myself "Am I farming too much? Am I getting penalized yet ? *
You are basically saying that you want to AFK while you are doing other stuff and just get rich, while your character farms for you- I have no sympathy for you
I resent the non-disclosure, and I resent being told exactly how I’m supposed to enjoy this game. I thought I got to log in and choose what I did for fun
There has been total transparency from the start- Anet gives feed back all the time, they are actively working to fix issues in the game all the time. The operative word here is game not FB app.
Sorry for my rant but really enough with this now!

Hey Guys as the title says-
I have seen many threads about people being lonely in the game and I am curious to know if people are finding EU servers more generally friendly.
This applies to Guilded and Non Guilded players.
What are your experiences? What server do you play on?
In my case I play on Gunnar’s Hold (EU)
I have found the community very friendly, chatty and helpful.
I have started conversations with many random players and have been approached by as many just striking up a conversation or just generally doing things together on the map. Or even just chatting in /say during escort quests
I belong to 2 Guilds- a really big one and a tiny family guild that my husband and I started. My experiences are not Guild related though- just random people I run into during play.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I play a GS/Staff Mesmer and I have found that opening on staff auto, dropping 4,5 on yourself and switching to GS kept me alive more than once.
I just finished Dredgehaunt Cliffs last night and it was very hard- I love the zone, it is beautiful and very atmospheric but man those dregde! It also has the hardest vista’s I have seen so far.
We spent a good 30 min looking for the entrance to the last skill point.
I solo on my Mesmer a lot but for this area I actually had to ask my husband to come help me.
Still I do love it-
53 Mesmer 10/10
I also don’t like the Go-Go Dancer look- I’ll go so far as to say I detest it.
When I made my Mesmer I had a vision of an elegant, alluring, illusion-spinner.
This is what she looks like now- I have been slowly working towards my vision and I must say I am very happy with her atm
Thanks- just to clarify if you have the guild update for guild armour you then buy the stone for 1g? Good Grief! guess I can’t afford it
The guild armour item which you buy is basically a modified transmutation stone.
You double click it then drag in the piece of armour which you want to apply it to.
Thanks!
Now I wish I spent the points in Architecture but np, next up extra storage
I play a Mesmer and I had that problem too until I got an amazing trait called Medic’s Feedback- (15 points in Inspiration)- as the name suggests it creates a feedback bubble similar to Mirrored Feedback- It makes ressing super fast -like 2-3 seconds.
It makes a huge difference to my life because if you wander into a situation with fields of dead players it is in your interest to get them up as fast as possible before you die.
Also people are very grateful and I feel like a little healing fairy floating around the battle
Thanks- just to clarify if you have the guild update for guild armour you then buy the stone for 1g? Good Grief! guess I can’t afford it
what? wait?
Does this mean the guild armour is a backpack? O-o
I though you could just display the emblem on regular armour?
I just spend the influence to get it.
I started playing after the game became available again to buy online. I made a Charr Necromancer because I love monsters and I love necromancers, and I just went out to explore the world. I picked up some harvesting items, and just walked from place to place, stopping to help people in need (hearts) and discover interesting places. I finished the first Charr zone yesterday, like completely finished all the exploration things, and realized I was level 22. I knew I’d been leveling up, but I never kept track of how much. I realized a level and a half late that I had my last utility slot open, about six unspent trait points.
My only complaint is waypoints; they break immersion. But then I just avoid using them and the people who want fast travel have it and I don’t have to suffer for it, because there are harvesting nodes and adventures to be had as I take the longer path.
Now to figure out what alt I want to play.. I’ve restarted close to a dozen times and never gotten past level 5.
Hahahaa! priceless!
That is exactly my style of play and it has happened to me too- except I’m lvl 50 or so.
It took me ages to realize I need to buy a second trait book O-o
I do have alts though and I love playing them too.
hahaha! I am allover the place- Female Human Mesmer Tailor/Jeweler
I love the detail in this game
I love the Npc’s
I love the openness of the world and the environments are mind boggling
I love my character because it feels like mine
I love the fluid combat
I love the secrets and little hidden things.
I love that I can set my own goals and pretty much do whatever I want.
I love that there is always something new to see
I love the community on my server and the fact that this game encourages community
I love crafting
I love everything about it actually- it makes me happy to play, it makes me smile, it fills me with a sense of wonder
Wintyre Fraust said it is more like a virtual world- I think that is a perfect discription
@morrigan.2809
huh did you even read what i wrote?
how does making games “mmorpgs” with hardcore elements make it so you cant play them?
this game has no end game content for hardcores, if they added some does that mean you have to to do it?
if you are casual then you wont care that other players that spend more time that you on the game have more stuff , your not competing with them so what do you care?
oh i see you think because you cant have what they have its not fair
so you want all games to be casual so you dont miss out… i see
Oh please!
you are the one complaining that this game is not hardcore enough and you are the one who suggested companies should only cater to hardcore players – I think you used the term “care bear games” – cute
I couldn’t care less what kind of gear you run around in or how many titles you have.
My point was that there are people who are sick of that kind of thing- RL is competitive enough for me.
The fact that you even say this game has no end game for hardcores means that you completely missed what this game was about- They very very clearly said that the whole game is the end game and that you won’t have all that stuff that you want suddenly, boom- when you hit 80.
I personally hate games that make me rush to lvl cap so I can play the game.
This is not that game
“First off, the words “hardcore” and “game” should never be used together. It’s a freakin’ game.
Secondly as all the babyboomers are getting older, the target audience for many games is getting older with us. Most of us have lives, families, jobs, etc.”
This! I love games and I have loved them for 20 years, must I now stop playing games because I have RL commitments that don’t allow me to play8 hours a day?
“I don’t know whether i want gw2 to do well at all because i don’t want other company’s to keep rolling out these care bear games
I wish companys would just consider the hardcore players you know the type of players that go to game conventions , make youtube videos, spend hours playing these games and try to be the best they can be in any game they play.”
So now no-one else but people who you consider to be hardcore enough get to play games ever?
Did you even read what you wrote?
I role-played paper and pen but not at all in games, it is a new concept to me but I find myself drawn into random /say on the map
Some hilarious moments in the escort quests- like in Queensdale where you escort a caravan of beer- the dolyak went off the path and someone said " my god woman be careful of the beer!’ and some one else said “this woman had wayy to much beer” yet someome else said “it is for the soldiers think of the soldiers” one person went "zzzzz’ and when there was the inevitable attack someone said " that’s what you get for sleeping on the post soldier"
It made a boring escort event so much more fun
I get very offended if someone in my vicinity aggro’s neutral wildlife with AOE
I really try hard not to do this and just sometimes love to /sit and watch the wildlife- boom! aoe! but meh it is not a huge thing
I also hate killing corrupted Quagans it feels like bashing kitties- and they are the worst! they do soooo much damage
I also feel bad for harpies
Once I was in a cave trying to mine ore and this huge bear came at me so I killed it- then the cubs came out and attacked me! man I felt so bad I ran away- killing cubs? O_o
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Fock off troll!
?!?
I have been playing since head start:
Lvl 50 Mesmer- 30% world map- story on lvl, tailor/jeweler
Lvl12 Elementalist -chef/artificer
Lvl 10 Guardian- story above lvl, armoursmith/ weaponsmith
Lvl 5 Thief- story on lvl. huntsman/leatherworker
lvl 4 Engineer- dead end
I laugh every time I see it !
I have started typing kitten on forums and saying it in RL-
kudo’s ArenaNet!
I saw bottles in a bar today in Divinty’s Reach you can pick them up and have all sorts of skills that looks like a bar fight to me- but I was in a personal instance so I haven’t tried it out yet.
As for the Keg Brawl- yes it is in Hallbrak(?) and it is great fun! It took me ages to realize what side I was on, I must have kittens of a lot of players
1) Repetitiveness. – Every Zone/area feels exactly the same.
2) Quest Hubs – yea don’t lie you still have em; now it is just run to heart and do their quest which even shows in the helper while waiting for the DE event to spawn for that area.
3) Dynamic Events are FAR FROM dynamic. Being Dynamic implies they change, this is not true as event is same over and over again.
3a) These do not have the feel they should when the same event happens 3 times in 10 minutes.4) Overcrowding – everything is one giant zerg.
5) Instances are just plain stupid design. Yea I get that you wanted to try something different but it is ok to admit that something is wrong, that is the first step to correcting a problem.
6) Terrible user base. Not socially, but skill wise 9/10 players I run into are well for lack of a better word ‘crappy’ players. A generation raised by WoW I guess.
(This could be due to the overcrowding zerg rush somewhat but I swear half the people I meet don’t know to to actually dodge, and many don’t know there is an actual button to do so).
6)a) I’m a skilled casual player so finding other skilled players to run an instance is more of a challenge than instance itself.7) GOLD/MAGIC FIND = Worst stat and game mechanic in history of mankind.
– Dumb people think this is a good thing, smart people like me realize they get screwed out of real stats stacking it or screwed out of loot for stacking real stats. This is a lose, lose scenario; not even a chance of a win.
1) really? I am at lvl 50 and have yet to see the same zone twice- in fact I get a huge kick out out seeing new zones because they are always different
2) You don’t seem to realize that hearts are just guidelines- they weren’t even in the game originally? I usually don’t even bother with them unless I really want their karma item or until I want to complete the map. There are no quest hubs, thank the stars!
3) Oh but they do!
The amount of people doing them change things so that it stays mostly on most good outcome on high pop servers.
But you do know that they chain, right? If you wait around and talk to npc’s it often sparks a chain that goes on and on.
In my case if I log on and the server is very busy and I have done the event already I just move on and do something else until the zerg has passed.
Often I get the rest of the chain because I am around but the zerg has chased the next event.
4) The zerg moves quickly, gather some materials for 5 min and they will be gone over the next hill
5) I hate instances which is why I have not done dungeons ( leaving that for when I can get a reliable team and have the time) but personal story instances are great
6) The game is 3 weeks old what did you expect? People play games to relax it is fun sometimes to herpkittenaround. Not everyone has the time or the need to be good at a game. Sure over a longer time- span you will see individual skills improve. I get a kick out of getting better as a player and more skilled with my profession.
I must also admit that some of my most fun moments where me being really blonde!
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Trust me, there are flimsier professions out there. If I wrote your paragraph, it would read like this:
“I’m having a real blast burning things to death with my fire staff Elementalist. It’s so much fun. Unfortunately, my health bar drains like a glass of Guinness in an Irish pub on St Patrick’s Day. I think I just aggroed two hyenas at the same level as me and my health bar just disappeared before I saw the first one bite me. The second one didn’t bother attacking, and just stood by and laughed as his friend mauled me.
I wear run of the mill PVE gear and have a pretty decent, but right cool to look at, level 31 steam staff. I’m specced fairly evenly, with a strong emphasis on survivability. I have a little over 3k health at this point.
Please ANet, I think that’s plenty of challenge in the PVE already. I love those moments when I’m fighting for my life, dying, dodging, dying, burning, dying, healing back up, dying, throwing AOE, dying, checking my map, dying. But dying is getting much more frequent as the mobs gets better. It seems the pve in this game is amazing, but my coffers are draining from death taxes."
I kid a bit. I don’t die quite that much. Just feels like it. But I do enjoy that “just made it feeling” which, for me, is the challenge.
+ 10000
hahahahahaha! I have a lvl 12 Ele and I wish I could rename her Fainting Maiden!
Unfortunately she is my chef and I don’t want to start over on that so I leave her for now until I have the patience to play nursemaid or until I can afford a mouse with more buttons
OP, unfortunately, reading from this forum, the game is limited for very hardcore/smart players.
check out my suggestion thread;
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/the-endgame-answer/Yeah you’re right, the people still enjoying the game are just stupid casuals. I’d play more but I keep hearing my car keys jingling or a kittening laser pointer dot on the floor distracting me for hours.
Holy kittening christ I must be kittening kittentarded. Excuse me for a moment Sir Issac kittening Newton while I go stick my junk in an electrical socket because I’m a stupid casual.
/kittens
seriously? some respect please
At the OP- I really cannot help you since I am only at lvl 50 atm.
I can tell you what I like.
I find that there is a lot more to a zone than 100% completion just yesterday I found a place with an event that you trigger by talking to an npc in the starter human area- I cannot tell you how many times I have done that area and I never knew it was there. My mind was blown
I personally like finding secrets and looking for cool crafting skins but that might not be your thing at all
I also like alts which is why I am still at lvl 50 on my main Playing a different profession makes a huge difference even in area you have seen many many times (all my chars are human)
But seriously someone on this thread suggested writing a guide on how to make money on the TP – this is a good idea, since very few people understand how it works.
I love making a goal for myself every time I log on- I might not accomplish it because I get side tracked, but it amuses me to set my own goals and not be dictated to by the game.
It all depends on what interests you.
If you really are bored, take a break, play something else for a week and come back and see if you feel refreshed
That is all I can really say, good luck
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I also think it might be your weapon choices.
I have a Guardian, at the moment I am playing greatsword/staff because I am only lvl 10 and still unlocking my weapons (holy kitten but they have a lot!) and I find that I die a lot on those.
I’m still learning the class mechanics though.
My favourite is sceptre -focus / greatsword atm.
But having said that, I easily play 3-4 lvls above mine with the Guardian.
Now my main is a lvl50 Mesmer and I do feel very mean on her but she struggles with 3-4 lvl higher content especially if she gets cornered by 4-5 mobs.
One on one she rules.
I do find that if I played my Guardian for any length of time and switch back to my Mesmer I have some repair bills coming- the Guardian makes me less sneaky and more in your face- a bad bad move for a Mesmer
In game?
you right click on the person’s char and say report or in chat you right click on the person’s name and report.
But since you say character assassination I guess that was not what you meant
@ Rizzy- just because people don’t agree with you does not mean we don’t know what we are talking about.
Is it such a hard concept to grasp that there are actually people who enjoy playing the game for what it is?
Not everyone enjoys the same thing.
Loot is not an issue – it is a perceived by some players to be the reward for playing the game. It is not- it never was.
Same with money- why do you want to be rich in a game? To feel you have achieved something?
All my chars are flat broke- I mean not even 10 sliver broke- do I care?
No, why should I- if I really want money to buy something specific sure I’ll go get it, but to have it sit in my bank so I can say I’m rich? I couldn’t care less.
This attitude of, if I don’t get rewarded, I won’t play is really saying that you want GW2 to be a game it was never supposed to be and GW2 is in fact trying very hard to get people out of that mind set.
There are literally hundreds of games out there that does depend on loot/ money/achievements. Why should the one game that does not become like them?
Seriously? O-o
I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.
I am good for at least a couple of months before an update.
Let them perfect what they have now, let the player base settle down- we still have free server transfers for goodness sake!
I love a cross cultural barber shop- maybe with npc’s of different races where you can have your char get a make-over to wear your hair like another race. I would pay money to have Norn Hair on my humans
Player housing- but Anet said it is in the works. I would pay to put cool stuff in my house in a heart beat.
I would also love it if you could invite players to a party at your house- maybe buy a party pack, or even serve crafted food.
More dances- apparently we have dance vendors in the game, I have just no idea where
I would also dearly love it if you could see the jewelry you craft on your character- but that is not really something you could buy
Agreed OP- very nice post
Playing this game has been an eye opener for me and I feel quite liberated.
Thank you for making a game that does things differently and actually tries to improve the genre
I agree with the OP.
I just don’t get it- I find that this game gives me an almost overwhelming amount of options. I can pretty much do what I feel like at any given time and get rewarded for it.
I read all these threads that moan about “dere is no rewardz!!” and I feel like slapping people! What is it with this instant gratification nonsense?
Also people complaining about farming/ DE caps- I have never hit a cap, ever.
I play the game normally and I wouldn’t have known there were any caps if I hadn’t read about it here.
This is the most amazing world I have ever seen- I discover new things every day even in zones where I have 100% completion. I talk to the NPC’s and find interesting little hidden quests.
I get a kick out of finding cool crafting recipes.
I love the community and have had some hilarious times with just random people I ran into.
I can go on and on about why I love this game. I like that I feel that my playing time is never wasted because I have a lot of commitments in RL.
I just really really hope ArenaNet sticks to their vision of the game and does not give in to the demands of a small vocal minority that act like a bunch of entitled, spoilt brats.
I played the game in the beta’s and I have been playing since early start on head-start.
I adore this game, it gave me everything I was hoping for and more- so yes. it is the best MMO I have played – thanks Anet!
I can see myself playing it for years.
I am a girl so I like to play females
I started with 2 Humans, Asura, Sylvari, Norn
And I slowly deleted all the non Human toons until I have a lone Asura left- I can already say she is gonna go.
No matter how interesting I find the Lore- I guess I suck and can’t identify with anything except humans- also I love Queensdale, I have traveled far and wide and that is my favourite starter area – eh meh- I guess I am a Humanist :p
My main Mesmer is called Diamond Mask- from Julian May- once in a beta I had a guy called Sugoll res me!
My Elementalist: Zian Zy- I made it up
My Guardian: Isabella Katerina is called after my grandmother, who would have made an awesome Guardian
My Thief: Crowgirl- from Charles De Lindt- the line-" we both carry a smile to show that we’re pleased
we both carry a switchblade up our sleeves"
My Engineer: Miss Tricky Pockets
I have five characters. Mesmer, Ele, Necro, Engineer, Ranger.
But I find myself playing my main a Human Mesmer (lvl 48 ish) more and more simply because I enjoy playing her the most.
I feel quite guilty for neglecting my others but I have tentatively decided just to keep on playing with my Mesmer indefinitely- I can see myself still playing her way past the time when she hits 80.
Only thing now- I think I’m going to have to scrap the Necro and make a Guardian.
Also I have 3 humans, one Asura and one Norn but I am kinda in love with the Humans so I might have to scrap them and start over.
I am already thinking I might need a second Mesmer too- since I want to try a different concept……
So OP- I have it really bad and I can’t help you other than saying relax and enjoy your altholism
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I might be mistaken but I think I got some from jotun drops in the Dregdehaunt Cliffs
here have some more!
This first one was just epic- the higher you went up the mountain the more it snowed – I felt like we were in a movie
The second one is in the Black Citadel.
The next area for the Sylvari would be Brisbane Wildlands I think.:)
It really does pay to do the personal story though as others have said- you get cool stuff and it does show you more about the world. I have also really enjoyed the story itself so far.
One of my favourite places would be the Godslost swamp in Queesdale
It changes so much all the time
You miss mana? Really it is one of the main things I am thankful for- no more need to fill my entire inventory with potions. It is awesome!
Also that kind of micro management? I would play the sims if I wanted that- it is not skill. It is finicky make work. If you want skill, develop your class- I learn new things everyday and it makes me a better player.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
really?
I was there last night on my lvl 39 Mesmer and I thought it was a walk in the park compared to Harathi Hinderlands.
I felt really uber cool
I just want a solution, I want to play the game and talk with the people in the communty.
I want to be able to call for help, or answer a call.
I do not want to be swamped by this Kitteees!!
I just want to play really
Before today gold sellers were just that annoyance you right click and report.
they were mostly on the overflow, not on the main server.
So tonight I log on thinking yeah weekend play, and they are everywhere!
you cannot read map chat anymore.
My server has a great community and you cannot see them because you have gold-sellers spamming map chat!
I have spent my entire play time this evening reporting gold sellers!
this is not acceptable to me- when I log on to relax and play a great game- I want to be able to do so.
I do not want to be spammed by bots using stolen accounts!
I love this game and I love the community but this needs to stop.

I don’t see how you can compare the two games really, but ok.
I also don’t think 40% of people bought GW2 because they are bored of WOW- but rather people bought it because they were interested in GW2.
Many people have been playing since the Betas and that generated a lot of sales by word of mouth. We knew what we were getting.
But if it makes you happy sure.
or have parties for your in-game friends in your home instance.
If you had access to all the materials you needed to craft, you wouldn’t need the Trading Post. Which requires gold. Which you buy from ArenaNet.
A nice tidy package, wouldn’t you say?
.
No actually not.
I have 200 spare gems siting in my account- I was desperate enough for crafting materials that I seriously considered turning it into gold- I think at the time I could get 3 silver and some copper for it. I bought those gems with real money.
So really Arena Net is not trying to get you to buy gems for gold.
It is just a case of an imbalance in drop rates that can be fixed.
Or you guys could concentrate on playing the game instead. Crafting isnt essential in any way. I completed the entire game without even touching crafting. And you know what? I had tons of jute afterwards. And you get exactly what you need from completing missions. Armor, weapons, accessories..its all given to you. You guys are starting in the wrong end, wake up. play through the game and start working on crafting in the later stages of the game.
Oh really?
What if my idea of playing the game is outfitting my main in a way I like?
What if I really enjoy crafting? I now have to rush to 80 so I can enjoy something that I could be doing from lvl1?
Your statement makes no sense.
That said the jute thing is killing me- I do salvage, I know that lower lvls get more drops in low lvl areas- hell my Ele is lvl 12 just from collecting jute and blood, claws etc for my main!
This is not an ideal situation and it makes the tailor profession very difficult since both of our main ingredients rely on drops- not harvesting.
I am struggling at lvl 99 tailor now and wool is better than jute but I still want to make the Devout set that I have never been able to get enough materials for. As it is if I use it on my main at all (lvl 40) I will have to transmute it.
Good luck finding enough jute to make the set for an alt!
It takes all the fun out of making cool stuff for your characters and I find it impossible to keep my crafting lvl on par with my character lvl.
Some one on these forums suggested the possibility that we could farm jute, cotton etc from plants- this is the best solution I have heard yet, because everything else is just a work around.
