How often do you weapon swap, and does it help your play style?

I swap a lot and I mean a lot.
My main is a GS/Staff Mesmer and I learned to swap weapons as soon as I could because it just makes your life so much easier.
Now that I have a Guardian alt that habit carried over and I play my Guardian mostly as a Scepter/Torch, GS.
I also want to try the focus to see if it is as cool as the torch

@ Crazylegsmurphy- I couldn’t agree more.

I would honestly prefer it if the world bosses were more random, I would even like it if they moved from place to place. It doesn’t have to be by much.

As an aside- It would also be awesome if a big event could actually fail and you had a huge critter terrorizing the countryside.

Atm as it is all you see in Frostgorge Sound, Sparkfly Fen and Blazeridge Steppes is ETA Dragon??
It kills all other DE’s on the map.

GW 2 PvE Discussion [Merged Threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I can’t say what is wrong with it or what can be done to properly fix it. A combination of things would probably help pinpoint a fix. From the beginning combat is so easy you only need to use your auto-attack, at level 80 there are repetitive combos that frequently get repeated on tougher enemies. There are different issues at both sides of the spectrum. What can be done to make PvE more exciting?

I can’t really agree with you at all. I have a lvl 80 Mesmer and if I stuck to auto attack I would never have made it past lvl5.

Even at lvl 80 I find that I constantly have to actually pay attention to what I am doing so that I can use my abilities to the best effect. Especially if I am playing solo.

My husband plays a Ranger and he says he doesn’t have to “play piano” with his skills the way I need to, so maybe it is your class?
I love PvE so much that I haven’t even tried PvP and WvWvW yet- I plan to, I just get sidetracked.
As for the combat and skill/ trait system- it is relatively easy to pick up sure but that does not mean that it is simple, the depth is there if you want it.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

I am not a very sociable player by nature and I resent being forced to interact with others- that said I find myself far more sociable in GW2 than in any other game I have played.
I chat in /say, map-chat and I usually have a few whispers going on, on the side.

I have met loads of people in this game- either just by doing things randomly together and running into each other often enough to notice, solving a puzzle or hard to reach vista etc.
I’ve had the great pleasure of being approached by an RPer in LA and we meet up every now and then.
I have even had random party requests from total strangers just wanting help with a skill point or finding something on the map.
All in all I find the game very sociable without the pressure of forcing me into a specific form of interaction.

I am on Gunnar’s Hold and there are loads of people on all the maps- I completed Mt Maelstrom and Fireheart Rise this weekend and there were so many people you had to move off a bit if you wanted to be just 2-3 people.
We saw a lot of the same people very frequently and had a great time doing Font of Rand with a random player that me and my husband kept running into.
So in Sparkfly Fen, Plains of Ashford, Mt Maelstrom, Fireheart Rise and Blazeridge Stepps there were lots and lots of people. Ironically the emptiest map I have seen is Frostgorge Sound.
Heck I was even on the overflow server in Lion’s Arch!

I have thought that the spawn rate in some areas of the game needs adjusting.
Several times I have been doing an event with other players when the initial waves have already reset before you can down the final boss.
I am not sure if the spawn rate or the timer on the DE needs to be reset but it would make a big difference. Some of the DE’s are so quickly reset/timed that you find yourself 10 steps away before it starts up again.I just run for my life in such situations

I just don’t know how practical your suggestion is.

Also to the person up thread who said the fact that you do not have raid progression attracted them to this game.

I cannot agree more, the things that attracted me to GW2 would be what separates it from the way other MMO’s operate.
I despise what MMo’s have become and raids have a lot to do with that whole – gear, cooler gear exclusion, commitment or you are out idea.

I have a kid that I like to spend time with, I also love GW2- raids would ruin the game for me because it opens a horrible can of worms where if you don’t get the stuff, you can’t do the stuff.

Bit of both. The Mad King showing up, for example, only happened on Halloween. Why Legendary Weapons looks like that?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

More legendary of all kinds would of course be welcomed.

As an elementalist, I really want to see the bifrost in action. The picture does not seem to do it much justice, just looks like a skeletal staff with an odd “anatomical” shaped head.

Also, any staff with a Skull on top would make a nice addition, maybe a daemon head so it can be “legendary”!
With a name like bifrost, I was expecting some sort of ice shard staff with a translucent water like crystal ball rotating on top.

The name Bifrost is from Norse mythology; it’s the rainbow bridge that leads to the gods’ realm of Asgard.

Evidently, the particle effect reflects that.

Yes I got the reference which is why I want one, but google seems to hate me and I can’t find a pic at all.
Judging from this thread there must be some around can some-one please put a link?

Snip

What a long and incoherent pile of rambling drivel.

The DR was implemented after the game was released! It wasn’t part of any vision.

It was a knee-jerk reaction to some serious desgin flaws that became apparent after the game was released.

Vision!? Yeah, right,

I’m all for you putting across a reasoned and balanced argument, but I’m not going to sit here and listen to you make things up, because it supports your short-sighted views on what “good” a DR system does.

Not only that, but the official line we get from ANet is that DR exists to curb bots and automated play. It’s nothing to do with trying to get legitimate players to alter their playstyles to suit a “skin oriented game.”

As has already been said in the thread, quite rightly, the DR is punitive in many different ways.

Your assessment is so far wide of the mark it’s risible.

If you can’t see by the overwhelming community response to DR, that’s it’s hated, then you must be spending all your time in other forums, are trolling or haven’t even bothered to read anything anyone else has says.

What a load of rubbish! I needed a good laugh.

The most imporant and damaging aspect of DR is that is alters standard bot behaviour and forces them into our DEs and has also caused bots to increase in number to fight against the effects of DR.

It’s been explained many times already. There are serious unforseen consequences of DR that ANet just didn’t think about.

They caused a big big mess with this and they’re not doing much to reverse it.

It’s going to cause serious damage. It is causing serious damage right now.

If you can’t see that, then I can’t help you. We’ve said all we can say about it.

Either it’ll get fixed or this game will falter and fail, before it’s even had a chance to be a success.

It is that simple.

Have you considered that the Op might be spending his time inside the game playing and not sitting on the forums spreading negativity?
I assure you that this is made to be much more urgent on the forums- I have not seen anybody complaining about it in the game ever.
Your entire post is hostile, the OP was not however.

in Suggestions

Morrigan.2809

The lack of open world pvp makes the game incredibly more shallow.. yeah this is something I really miss in gw2.

“This game is cooperative, not competitive” That’s sad : as we can’t feel any epicness in gw2 dungeons, we can’t feel any “danger” in the open world.

Unfortunately the game isn’t designed for Open world pvp, and I think it was a terrible mistake now that I know what the game feels like.

Too much rainbows and care bears is not necessarily a good thing.

People are telling you what the intent behind the game is- this is a co-operative game, it is part of it’s basic design philosophy, there is no denying it because you don’t like it.
It is also one of the main drawing points of this game.
To then go and throw words like rainbows and carebears around because you can’t attack other players and you think that makes the game somehow shallow, just sounds silly.

Oh and on topic: No thanks- I really would not like to see open word PvP or whatever you want to call it. It will add nothing to the game-play and will actually harm it.

Morrigan.2809

MMO’s by their very name are made to “play how you want”…

No, they’re not. As with any designed game system, the only things you get to do are those designed into the system, and beyond that, those things the developers allow. GW2, like any MMOG, has design parameters. You don’t get mounts, you don’t get to play as the bird race, mesmers don’t get to wear heavy armor and Asuras don’t get to start out the size of Norn. You don’t get to take your gear with you to sPvP and you don’t get open-world (in the regular PvE zones) PvP. You don’t get to bogart resource nodes or kick players out of your squad in WvW. You can’t exclude any player that waltzes by from jumping into whatever your guild is doing in the common zones and participating.

You get to play “your way” only as long as it fits the intended purposes of the game designers. When your gameplay (or that of enough players) goes outside of those parameters, they will take action as they see fit. Obviously, the developers of the game see fit, for whatever reason, to put in the DR system. Claiming that they are not allowing you to play as you wish is an empty complaint because no MMOG lets players do “whatever they want to do” in their games.

Just because you want to be able to do something in the game doesn’t mean ANET should provide for it or allow it. As with any game, you have to make your decisions if you want to continue to play any game if they move in a direction that doesn’t suit you. That’s why I stopped playing MMOGs a few years ago; the genre had moved away from what I found enjoyable.

GW2 brought me back, and the DR system doesn’t affect my gameplay at all, nor do I have a problem with them installing it in principle because it fits in perfectly with the overall game philosophy as I understand it.

If you like looking at pretty trees, to each his own, but I rather make the most of my time as I have it rather then get punished for playing a lot in one day.
“Looking at pretty trees” and “making the most of one’s time” are not mutually exclusive choices. Nobody is punished for “playing a lot” in one day unless the only goal they have is “maximizing rewards”.
Very well said!
I agree with you completely and so far I have been playing the game exactly how I want I have never been punished for it or forced into any kind of activity I don’t feel like doing
I got exactly what I expected from this game and I am only getting started.

Why GW 2 will not fail

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gw2 will do well because, unlike people are led to believe from these forums, the game is very enjoyable and sociable.
When ArenaNet took node competition, kill stealing, loot stealing and general griefing out of the game it really changed how players perceive and react to each other in the game.
It was a stroke of genius imo- I can’t imagine going back to that kind of environment in a game.

Gw2 also requires that you have the ability to set your own goals to an extent and I welcome that since I don’t feel like the game is treating me like a toddler.

If you look at the vibe in the game itself, it is clear that people are having fun and generally just running around enjoying themselves. It is really ironic that the vibe on these forums seem to be the exact opposite .

Excuse me if I am wrong but DR= Drop Rate yes?
Is it really fun to sit there and grind out some material? I mean who plays the game for that other then bots? How is that remotely entertaining? There are plenty of other more interesting goals to set for yourself that will gather the materials and gold you need to obtain legionaries, which btw require legendary effort to obtain, makes sense. These weapons are basically just skins, thats the point. However should you move between maps and enemy types all day and you played non stop the DR would not drop much. You’d see it, move on, repeat and eventually come back to the start 5ish hours later seems to be the reset time when I am gathering in Orr. I will log out of my main and play my second and when I come back later loot is fine. I don’t get how thats a big deal.

As for all the bugs… the game just released they need time to fix it all up, no release is perfect for a while but this release has been much better then plenty of other MMOs. To me it just looks like people trying to find any little thing to complain about to justify returning to other MMOs they get or just warrant not liking the game. If you don’t like it fine, but trhat doesn’t mean the issues you have with it are fact or are not being worked on.

Lastly, A-Net has said, play other games, GW2 will be waiting. With no sub you have nothing to worry about. If the bugs bother you then come back when you see mention of a majority being fixed.

DR is short for Diminished return you are spot on in your assessment

Well, what I’ve done is stop trying to farm mats, salvage all whites, and sell blues/greens.
I’ve also went on to doing dungeons, quests, and finishing zones to get a flow of money coming in. I’m actually enjoying this more, as Dungeons provide cash, karma, and tokens, and chests, and drops from mobs. The same can be said for zone completion (minus chests, but they do give rares and exotics at times). Thus, I sell the salvaged mats I don’t need, and the items I don’t need, and then more then enough to buy the mats I need to level up crafting. And, it was much more fun, then say fighting harpies for 2 hours to get 10 vials of blood. Trust me…

Very well said! once I realized this it was like a light went off in my head Eureka!
I have been having so much fun and I find crafting much more enjoyable now, it really made a difference in my life

I really don’t understand why people find it necessary to spill venom all over the forums.

Yes we know there is a very vocal group shouting:

I hate DR! , My game is ruined, Anet just want my money!

There are hundreds of threads about it and people who scream and moan and threaten to leave the game and claiming the game is dead… etc ad nauseam.

If someone has the audacity to disagree they are shouted down, called a white knight or a fanboy.

The reality is that this is a very well designed and successful game.
It breaks the mold of a stagnant MMO genre very nicely and Anet is very responsive to their player base, they keep the players updated and they are proactive in fixing real issues and protecting their players.
Also to the person who suggested that because this game is B2P that Arena Net needs to keep their costs down- are you serious? Have you got any idea how profitable this game is?

And everytime we come to the forums with a viable complaint we are shut down with taunts of ‘go back to playing WoW’ and claims that GW2 is the most perfect, awesome game out there. We are given the, ’ I THINK THE GAME IS FINE SO YOU SHOULD TOO’ arguement. And if not that, we are asked to move on – which is always a favourite of players whose games slowly died.

I have never told someone to go back to Wow, I also never said GW2 was perfect- I said it was a well designed game. Since there are multiple threads on this issue you are clearly not being shut down. You have a complaint sure- lot of people don’t you are being melodramatic

Its a double edged sword here, you believe the game is well designed and I cant disagree? I am a paying customer and I am only allowed to post messages of love on the main boards because you believe negativity is non-existant?

Again, where did I say this at all?
I have as much right as you to an opinion.
Why are you telling me you are a paying customer? Do you think I didn’t pay for the game? I pre- purchased it in full and have been playing since the beta’s

And for an issue this large, why should it be negelcted to the suggestions forums where ANET rarely frequent. After all, the only thing they have changed after player complaints are dungeon rewards. Any other suggestion has not been considered at all.

It is not a large issue, you feel it is a large issue and the fact that there are a gazillion threads about it makes it seems large. I happen to not agree with you since it has never affected me in the slightest.

You believe the forums should only praise ANET because YOU believe the game is perfect. I respect your oppinion, as you are a paying customer and you should respect mine when I bring up a legitamate complaint that many others are agreeing on. I dont go into all the ‘praise-anet-as-much-as-possible-just-because’ and flame the individuals who agree with the thread JUST BECAUSE I DISAGREE. It is thier oppinion and that is fine.

There you go again telling me what I believe.
I have never flamed anyone in my life

_And my question to you: Why can I not be negative on the forums if I believe a feature is not fixing anything? Why can I not post about how bots ARE NOT BEING AFFECTED BY DR? Why can I not complain about how I play and spend my LEGIT time only to be punished the longer I play? Why can I not complain about how the market is already out of hand, even though Anet hired an economist? WHY CAN I NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW THE DR-SYSTEM WAS IMPLENTED 2 WEEKS OUT OF NOWHERE WITHOUT ANY WARNING?-

I never said you can’t state your opinoin, I questioned the need for multiple similar threads that achieve nothing but spread negativity.

Also please note that not once in all my posts do I feel the need to write sentences in caps. That kind of emphasizes the point i was trying to make about people screaming
