I wouldn’t recommend a guide but it can be useful for when you get stuck-
try this one if you want. It shows what you can make by lvl with the ingredients needed
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/cook?page=6
The link by Ravoc is also very helpful.
@ Ravoc- I found that not to be true because I harvested my own materials mostly and lvled through the discovery tab.
If I got stuck I looked at the guide in my link for other possible recipes with what I had on hand. I’ve yet to make multiples of anything unless I did it for my own use, or for those in my guild when they asked me to.
The collections system is designed to make your adventuring less space dependent and that is awesome.
But I think there is no need to wait until you are max lvl to craft.
I craft on all my characters as I level them- typically I end a play session with a little crating until my mats run out.
you don’t have to mass produce but you do need at least one of the intermediate items like stock, dough, herbs etc to use in the discovery pane.
You can just use a guide and craft according to that, with no space problem, no loss and no spare ingredients.
That just sucks fun wise because cooking is the most fun craft specifically because it is so creative. All the other crafts work according to a set formula.
cinnamon-sugar and apples gives you cinnamon apples.
If you learned the recipe it does not need to be discovered- you just find it under production- that should also show you if you are missing ingredients
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Welcome to cooking
it eats space much more than other crafts.
I have found that a lot of the intermediate items are needed to later discover other recipes so if you are using the discovery tab it might not be too useful to eat/destroy those.
My solutions have been to buy more bank space, make really big bags for the chef and to create a guild for the vault space.
Not ideal- I know.
Cooking is the odd one out in crafts because the intermediate mats are needed all the time, it is not like other crafts where if you are finished with the tier you are done.
A tab for intermediate cooking ingredients would be really helpful
same here- I can’t log into the game on any password but I can log on here with my new password.
If I select forgot password on the game log in I get page not available.
I would love to know what to do please.
Edit: I have just had a mail from support- my account is now fixed.
Thank you Arena Net that was super fast, kudo’s to the support team
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
@ LordByron- yes it is the gargoyle scythe http://www.gw2db.com/items/54402-gargoyle-scythe – no idea how to get it but it says bind on aquire so it sounds lke it might be a drop or reward?
Some of those are actually not that bad- just a pity there are no names
butterflies? mermaid angels?
did I miss them on there?
I would love that!
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
This sounds like a disguised I want open world PvP to me.
Seriously, Anet is working on the problem, just be patient the game is 2 months old.
I haven’t seen a gold spammer in weeks, bots will go too eventually.
your account name would have made a great asura, Siliconhobbit, hahahahaha! awesome!
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I have found crafting very rewarding since I like to make my own stuff- it was really hard in the lower lvls but as my character progressed it became easier because I could sell unneeded mats and buy off the TP to fill in the gaps.
I have made some money from crafting- specifically jewelry and tailoring, so it is all good.
I would love to see more crafted skins because they are very limited compared to the mystic forge.
I have been hunting skin recipes since beta and I have found exactly 2- one of which is missing the head and shoulders (devout).
I think creating more crafted specific skins would be wonderful- it would also go a long way toward making crafting more profitable
I can’t quote for some reason but yes- as the poster above me said it would be awesome if we could get tools account bound.
I typically only use ori and mithril tools but lately I’ve gotten lazy and just switched to ori tools for everything.
It would have been great if I could have kept all the old tools for alts in stead of destroying them to free up space- as it is I have an entire 12 slot pack just for tools, incase I run out :P
The meteor showers in Fireheart Rise,
the first time I came over the lip of the canyon and saw the battle raging at Sorrow’s Furnace,
The vista’s in Mount Mealstrom had me shaking with clammy hands because of my fear of heights…
my list could go on for a long time
I wish we could get the Foefire skins on a staff or even the Mist one ( sorry can’t remember it’s name 0-0, it is sort of a phantom purple ) it would be awesome.
Sadly the best one I have seen is Bifrost and that is just too much effort for what it is.
Staff skins definitely need some love- I keep hoping there are loads that just haven’t been discovered yet.
I really like the “Modnir” staff skin… Acquired for Karma in the Harathi hinterlands
I like that one too
it is still sitting in my bank along with an armourskin that suits it nicely.
I am also looking for a nice staff, haven’t found one so far- I am still on the glyphic staff that I have been transmuting forever.
I use a GS too and I feel a little unbalanced, since my GS is awesome
I don’t care too much about particle effects since my current GS doesn’t have any but I do like an elegant look.
I think there is a nice sense of community in this game- it all depends on your server I guess. Also once server get locked down I think the sense of server community will only improve.
I have made a lot of friends in the game and we talk all the time, do stuff together, or just hang out while you are doing your own stuff across the map etc.
If one of us get a cool item or find something the other might like we link it in whisper.
There is no need for an inspect tool or duels- those things are more divisive than community building. Nothing stops you from showing off your stuff if you wanted to do so.
I love the fact that I can chase my own carrots, I am not forced by the game to get the golden carrot ;P
I can just set my own goals- it is sooo liberating.
I can play however I want and still be useful and competitive.
Now I get stuff I want- I can completely ignore the stuff I don’t want- AC I’m looking at you ;P
@OP yes- by not coming to the forums and just playing the game and enjoying it
I find these forums really negative. My husband has never been on here and he has been 80 for a couple of weeks now and enjoying himself thoroughly- totally oblivious to all the QQ going on here.
I must be a masochist because I still visit the forums but I have found some useful info among all the bile.
It is a whole other story in game, thank the six gods!
It will be open to everyone, given the nature of the game I can’t imagine anything else.
41 and loving the game
My husband also loves it and we play together a lot.
Now our daughter wants her own copy too- since she is only 5, she might have to wait a bit
Between my husband and me we have jewelry, tailoring, leatherworking and weaponsmithing at 400.
As we lvled we outfitted each-other in full gear, that we crafted. It is not hard, it is not a grind and it is very rewarding.
All we did was play the game, gather what you come across, salvage whites and vendor blues and greens. At 80 salvage yellows and any exotics you don’t want yourself.
We sold mats we didn’t need, supplied eachother and we have the satisfaction of wearing our own gear made to our specs. Working on our exotics now.
We love crafting in this game.
I recently started crafting on my alts as they level as well- I can’t imagine not crafting.
Yes I should think they are. This has been mentioned many many times here on the forums and in the suggestion forum. Just be patient. Chances are that it will be added at some point.
I missed out on GW because I did not have an internet connection at that time.
I played DDO for a bit and I detested it.
I saw the manifesto and thought Mmmm this sounds like something I might actually enjoy.
Cancelled my DDO subscription and started reading up on GW2 and watched some early footage. Decided this was definitely for me and convinced my husband that he should try it too.
He pre-purchased 2 accounts for my birthday present and we have been playing happily since BWE2.
I convinced some of our friends to get it and they love it too.
It delivered exactly what I wanted and we are still enjoying ourselves immensely.
I have a feeling GW2 did not fully get to a part of players.
I read some “exit reviews” and realize not only most people didn’t understand the game but they also didn’t notice the revolutions of the game. For instance, the dynamicity of the world is by a large extent something completely new to the gaming market.
It’s a world’s first.
The way NPCs contend land and through 50 events cause 500 different consequences and situations, the way they ally with other NPCs temporarily.
For instance, when you harvest “unexploded shots” in Kessex Hills.
Most players believe it’s just fetch questing – yet an hour earlier a real battle happened, with centaurs first building a bridge, getting through, conquering a fort and then sending 3 siege units to besiege a nearby village.
And that is where those unexploded shots were from. It’s all linked to real occurrences in the world, that are consequence of other event chains.
I can just wonder the amount of coding that went into to create something like this.
And the amount of creativity, too. Then why is GW2 being misunderstood as a traditional MMO rather than being played for what it is?
Perhaps gamers are not ready for this, the leap between traditional MMO and GW2 is too long for a generation that was used to much more simple formats?
For instance, computers weren’t immediately accepted in the society back in my days, people still didn’t recognize their potential and used them the wrong way.
But look at them now. What’s your take on this?
I agree with you completely, just from the responses on this thread I can see that a lot of people simply don’t get it.
There is genius at work in this game’s design and I think dynamic events are a big part of that. The truth is that this game is easy to pick up but it does reward players who have the patience to take the time to immerse themselves in the world.
It is not designed to run through in a zerg and blowing through the content like a locust horde. There is such depth that it is mindblowing- you are just not going to see it if you come with the attitude of time is money where is my loot.
I love the game too- the amount of detail in the world is astonishing, it is so much fun just nosing around. Here is an example.
Just last night my husband and I where in Frostgorge Sound, we were sort of aiming for the next waypoint but we saw an interesting looking cave.
When we looked around a bit we found a journal left by an explorer, we read it and it let us to the next part of the journal- eventually we found a Veteran group event that we did by ourselves and a splendid chest
It was a cute story and it was tons of fun trying not to die as we finished the event by ourselves, with the veteran, add spawns and the roof literally falling in.
We were still laughing when we went to bed.
No other game does this for me.
You guys seem to be forgetting that you can craft dyes.
Also dyes are for sale on the TP, and yes you can see the color before you buy it.
Just hover your mouse over the name and a square pops up that shows you the color.
Dyes are also fairly cheap on the TP unless you want Abyss/ Celestial.
No one has a need to buy dyes with gems, so no, Arena net is not trying to steal your money.
I read an article somewhere (can’t find it now) where they explain that the reason for making dyes character bound is so that players would develop more distinctive looks on their different characters.
If you really really need that special dye on and alt, buy it on the TP.
I don’t know Gunnar’s Hold seems pretty busy and I map jump a lot.
I have yet to come across a heart/ skill point/vista or DE that didn’t have at least a 3-4 of people there. In the lower lvls I have seen many many people.
The high lvl zones seems emptier to me tbh- or that just might be that people are chasing nodes/farming mobs/specific events and not really doing stuff
Normally you help each other complete the goal and then move on in different directions. At the next place you’ll see exactly the same people. It makes it cool because it always feels like hey there is that guy again.
@curtegg- yes your guess is correct your rewards are better across the board if you are teamed up vs solo.
The game is solo-able of course but the reward for teaming up is not just social.
Also your idea of scaleable dungeons is a good one and fits the game as it is now.
@ Equanox.
I think you are missing the point that we are trying to make too.
Everything at 80 is not a grind- you percieve it as such because as you said you feel you have to put too much time/effort/ grind in for not enough reward.
What you seem to be saying is that you are bored because you feel you already have the reward and now have nothing left to do that is worth you time.
Fair enough- that is how you feel.
Please understand that to me the reward I have at 80 is and entire world to adventure in and do what I want for fun.
It is exactly how this game was advertised and it is why I pre-purchased it. It gave me exactly what I was expecting and wanted.
As a Jeweler I have missed this
it would be great.
Maybe to address the clipping issues we could have a toggle like we do for shoulders, headgear etc?
I would love to see earrings personally.
@ Gustroril
I think you are assuming way too much.
Yes I have an alt, I have 4 actually and I have been playing them all along. I haven’t now suddenly started them. I haven’t lvled them much because I prefer playing on my main.
As for crafting- I love it- How is that a grind. doing something that you love?
I miss it because both my professions on my main are at 400, so now I craft on my alts too.
I care about hardcore content because of the mindset that comes associated with it.
You might think I am aimless as a cloud but I am not. My goals are just not yours or those imposed on my by the system. They are my own and I am free to make them.
This is precisely why I love this game so much- I can pay how I want, when I want.
Since some of you have asked I will elaborate, I don’t have a problem with world bosses being instanced content for guild or groups. ( this looks like code for raids btw ;P)
What I do have a problem with is rewards only being for that content and not being only cosmetic, because sure as rain it will start down the slippery slope of my gear is better that yours and “inspection” before you can join a group.
I agree with Tosha’s expierence, I found it very liberating to reach 80 and I was really happy to just chill out and smell the roses. Playing a Mesmer main, it was tricky to lvl her and she requires a lot of micro managing, it was also a lot slower than my friends on other classes.
I have been an 80 for a week and a half/ maybe 2 weeks not sure honestly because I noticed only afterward, I payed so little attention to my lvl that I missed it.
As for what I enjoy now. I love playing with friends who are lower level or not, doesn’t matter. I love solo exploring- and I don’t mean 100% map- I mean real exploring.
Let me give you an example. I played in the Betas and the stress tests and I play humans, all my chars are human. I know Queensdale pretty well I should think.
So last week I am playing around on my lvl7 Ele and I find a place I have never seen at all- it was really cool and a nice surprise.
Same thing happened the previous week on my Guardian- she triggered an event I had never seen before just because she talked to one little kid.
So basically I set my own goals and I do what I feel like.
Want to go kill all 3 world dragons tonight? done, if timing allows.
Want to go dive around LA for an hour, done!
Feel like crafting, no problem, load an alt.
Pretty much this is like a living breathing world and I can choose how to spend my time in it.
I still really want to try WvWvW but haven’t since the beta’s because I have too many things to do in PvE.
I tired making mental notes of so many cool things that I have seen and want to investigate more in depth at a later time that I will probably still be busy come exapansion
The very concept of gear treadmill exists to keep you grinding away for stuff because you play a subscription and it keeps you in the game.
No thanks- I have said it before- I am not a hamster.
As for grinding why are so many players so attached to it? It is boring and time consuming.
What blows my mind, is that now that people don’t have to grind for better and better stats they grind anyway and then complain that there is nothing to grind for, because it is just skins?
This game is not the same as all the other MMo’s out there- some people still don’t grasp that and continue asking for it to be more like they had in this or that other MMO.
It is never going to be like that. This is a different game.
It has no subscription, if you are bored take a break until a content update.
Btw I am an 80, I do not grind, I do not farm and I certainly don’t do anything I don’t like or find boring.
So far I find new things to see and do everyday- I am really enjoying myself. The PvE in this game is a godsend.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Yes I noticed this- It makes the world seem much more real and it also helps to flesh out your different characters.
My guardian for instance is a very helpful person and she will go out of her way to chat to random NPC’s just to see if she can help out.
My elementalist loves kids since she is so tiny herself and she always stops to chat to them. The other day in Queensdale I found a spot I have never noticed before right above the dam, with an older woman and two children. There is a tree house with a chest right at the top that you cannot open- it looks like there must be a way to trigger and event there, I have just not found out how to do it yet
My Mesmer is very bookish and will actually read any book she finds.
It makes the game very interesting having these hidden things, I love it.
There is a sound now? really?
I have never noticed it and I have also missed whispers, especially if I’m on TS or crafting.
A light like the poster above me suggested would be great if you don’t want to be dinged to death
I like it!
I especially like your suggestion to be able to salvage lower tier items for crafting materials for higher lvl items.
You could even have event trains that yield specific armors/ weapons for coin or karma.
As a staff/gs Mesmer with a condition build and traits to shorten my cooldowns on phantasms/ illusions. I can tell you that I have died more in the last 2 days than in the last 40 lvls.
I worked really hard to get my Mesmer to lvl 80 and to be good with her and I could hold my own unless I got swamped by 5-6 mobs.
Now I feel like I am an escort duty because I can’t walk five steps before being killed by wildlife.
It is sad and it makes me furious because I invested a lot in my character.
I resent having to rethink my build just to survive, because up until now I really enjoyed playing it.
I play mostly in PvE and Mesmer is a tricky class for that.
Why must I suffer because of PvP balance? This is just the usual balancing whine that will happen every time Arenanet make a change to any class and just shows that what people are really asking for in this thread is PvE easy mode, where their class is allowed to remain OP and unbalanced.
In any case, mesmers are fine, check out the mesmer expertise here and on guru if you don’t know how to play one.
Wow aggressive much?
I never asked for easy mode and anyone who thinks a Mesmer is OP in PvE should really share because that is not the case at all.
As for me learning to play, thank you, I do know how to play and yes I have checked the Mesmer expertise threads, here and on Guru.
I am just not playing a main hand sword Mesmer. I get that my build is not popular but I enjoy it.
I support splitting PvE and PVP skills because it makes sense. They are two different game modes with different requirements and should be treated differently. A lot of people love PvE, why should they be penalized because of the PvP crowd?
I stop in awe at the art in this game every time I play
The terrains are just mind boggling and the meteor showers in one of the Charr zones are spectacular.
I love exploring for exactly this.
Which armor would look the coolest dyed white?
Which is your favorite character and what kind of colors do you use for each character?
If it is any help to you my husband plays a ranger and he dyes his armor white- any medium armor looks pretty cool in all white
good luck with your dilemma I can totally understand it
Great post.
I also feel that a legendary weapon should show a person’s skill at the whole game and should be really hard to obtain. As a display of skill
I don’t like the way it is structured now for the reasons you stated.
My thoughts were along the lines of quests and secrets that you have to find in order to make/craft a precursor.
I don’t know how useful that is though because the recipe will make it onto the internet asap. But that should not matter.
Make it hard, make it costly make it a real effort.
It would be an awesome real goal to work towards.
As it stands only people who are rich in game can even think about a legendary- While being rich in game is an achievement, it is not the kind of thing that says Game Mastery.
As a staff/gs Mesmer with a condition build and traits to shorten my cooldowns on phantasms/ illusions. I can tell you that I have died more in the last 2 days than in the last 40 lvls.

Please tell me you are being sarcastic, please I beg you.
I still receive one or two per day.
I sometimes report them, but that message that pops up saying saying “Hey, dont just go around reporting people because if you do, we’ll ban you instead”…sort of deters me from doing it to every single spam email I get.
Now that is just silly- Anet clearly asked us to report goldsellers- what on earth makes you think you will be banned for doing so?
It is an Achievement- that means you have to achieve it.
I don’t like PvP but when I want 100% map completion and I will.
I am fully prepared to actually 100 % the map.
Gunnar’s Hold has a great community too. My experiences so far has been exactly like the OP says. I haven’t actually seen a real jerk yet.
They are very cinematic but not Dynamic really- I also had this vision of dragons flying over the map and heroes rushing to the defense of a town or whatever.
I don’t know how do-able it is to make these events more dynamic in the sense of random spawn times and places, added movement and generally more mayhem caused by dragons.
It would be great though, it would be awesome.
The Op’s idea is great.

Some of the light Armors already have high heels- the winged set and the feathered set comes to mind.
I would not like an inspect option.
As for skins- just ask the person if you really like their gear, I do it often and I almost always get a friendly reply. Often they will tell you how they got it even without you having to ask
I haven’t seen any spammers in a while now and I think I got 1 email in the last week- great job
it makes a huge difference in my playing experience.
