I really don’t understand why people find it necessary to spill venom all over the forums.
Yes we know there is a very vocal group shouting:
I hate DR! , My game is ruined, Anet just want my money!
There are hundreds of threads about it and people who scream and moan and threaten to leave the game and claiming the game is dead… etc ad nauseam.
If someone has the audacity to disagree they are shouted down, called a white knight or a fanboy.
The reality is that this is a very well designed and successful game.
It breaks the mold of a stagnant MMO genre very nicely and Anet is very responsive to their player base, they keep the players updated and they are proactive in fixing real issues and protecting their players.
Also to the person who suggested that because this game is B2P that Arena Net needs to keep their costs down- are you serious? Have you got any idea how profitable this game is?
-Limit it only to people who don’t have you on their friends list and aren’t representing the same guild. Problem solved.-
Since I can’t seem to quote-
This is an awesome idea, but I assume you had a typo because I really need to mail people in my Guild
I send out and receive a lot of mails since I craft for my guild.
My mail box is too small as it is.
I am lvl 78 on my main and I visit low lvl zones regularly,
Queensdale, the human starter zone is one of my favourites in the game.
I also have low lvl alts currently doing their stuff there and it is never empty.
Just last week I made a new alt and there was a carpet of people in the tutorial.
Actually I have pretty much seen a steady pop in every map since the initial insane rush passed.
They are not.
To make this a really short read let me refer you to the sticky at the top of the Forum,
Ok since that seems to have changed let me refer you to dev tracker
As long as the game is around,
honestly I really enjoy it and I am not affected by DR,
so as long as the servers are up I’m good
You keep playing to do ‘Just one more thing’ which turns into an all nighter.
Ditto, in my case it is craft just one more lvl.
then I continue it in my dreams and I am upset the next day because I don’t have all those awesome stuff in my inventory.
Or worst, explore one more map and I end up climbing mountains in my sleep
At op- I don’t know what class you are running if you have a problem with bandits -in I assume Queensdale?
Honestly you sound like you just want to moan.
The game is not hard- when it does get hard you have help available
I would like to see a revision of the underwater combat, with chosen skills/traits and more weapon choices that are profession specific.
In this scenario it opens a lot more of the world.
I pretty much don’t care if I stay 80 forever
I would love to see new zones, crafting materials and new crafts to go with it.
Someone up-thread mentioned carpentry to decorate your home instance?
I am tickled pink by all the places on the map you currently cannot go- Dominion of Winds, the place in Spark Fly Fens, The floating city in Gendarren Fields.. .
I would like to know what is there!
Other than that- anything goes
There are a lot of people around on my server any time really- if you are stuck try calling for help in map chat.
This is not even necessary most of the time because if a big world boss is up people will come running.
For normal mobs I have often had people rush by land a few blows to get it down if it looks like you are in trouble.
People in the game are generally really nice and don’t mind helping.
Just today I had an awesome fight- I was alone when the champion troll spawned in Sparkfly Fen- I was fighting for a good couple of minutes but with the adds etc I couldn’t get it’s health to drop.
So a couple of people come by and they join- I went down and they rezzed me in a zerg while the champion was attacking my phantasms. We brought him down and it was such a nice experience. We were also talking in say the whole time so it was great.
This is an MMo, not a single player game.
Join some friends, join a guild or just call for help it is not that hard

Is this thread still going?
Oh well,
Hi. I am a legitimate player,
I have never been affected by DR even though I have been on the same map essentially killing risen and krait for 3 days- honestly if I hadn’t heard the term here I would not even know it existed.
So please for the sake of the six gods stop saying that the game punishes legitimate players, Anet only wants my money etc.
Anet has never asked me for my money or compelled me to buy anything.
I do notice that the economy seems to be borked because all these farmers are flooding the market.
So kindly
Please don’t speak for me in the future
Signed
A legitimate player

I run a condition/phantasm Mesmer, I have 0 point is toughness and I craft my own gear.
I have been told that I am very useful in Dungeons because I can buff you, remove your debuffs, while at the same time kittening the mobs to a crawl- all the while swapping weapons to do some direct damage on the side
I also craft gear for my Guild Mates and the stuff I make is mostly better than anything you can buy – that is what they tell me.
I don’t think you should generalize like that
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I read your Op and I really don’t understand why you think DR would impact new content.
They will add new content- I would also love to see every map literally bristling with events- some already are like that.
I am sure this is what we will have eventually, since Anet stated that the way they designed DE’s were specifically to be able to add new content easily.

The account bound food items are usually rewards for story or whatever. All karma recipes are account bound and so are ingredients you pay for with karma. It makes sense since your account earned the karma.
You can sell goods crafted with karma recipes on the TP.
Anet is not ruining the game nor are they trying to force you to buy gems.
(have you seen the conversion from gems to gold?)- It is clearly intended for you to buy gems with in-game gold not cash
What they are trying to do is to protect the game and players who enjoy the game from being ruined by the few who jump on every new exploit band wagon-
A lot of these measures where put in place because a few people thought they were being clever and could get a quick profit.
Blame them, not Anet.
Go on call me a white knight- I love the game.
Oh and btw Dungeons are entirely possible with PUGs. Either you like them or you don’t
I also belong to a very small family guild and I understand that it takes a long time gather influence.
We also wanted the guild vault for the extra space so I just want to point out to you that you only need architecture 2 for this. 500 influence for lvl1, 1000 for lvl 2 and another 1000 for the fault.
We struck it lucky and were able to earn the 1000 for lvl 2 in 2 days- so now we are working on our final 1000 for the bank space.

^ so make it a main hand weapon and stick a gun or whatever in the off-hand, blind/vulnerability with the whip- finish with what ever you have in the other-hand?^
But seriously this is a game not real life, it does not need to be accurate- when last did you see someone cast meteor-storm or anything really in RL?
I am 100% behind the idea of whips as a weapon choice, sadly I just can’t make up my mind as to which professions should have them.
If I had my way everyone would except for the heavy armour guys.
When I saw this thread the first thing I though was Thief!
I play a Mesmer and I would kill to have one
This would be very helpful- I have bought the wrong item by mistake before too and it sucks, especially if you now don’t have enough karma left to buy the correct item.
I can’t recall but I think there might be a POI in the hidden Whispers Hideout/Den in Lion’s Arch. Do you have that one?
edit: oh wait- there isn’t one otherwise it would not have been hidden, sorry!

Interesting question!
I personally rather like D&D 3rd edition and I think it might work, I am also a fan of White Wolf Storyteller system but I’m not sure how that would work here.
It would probably be best to make your own system.
What made you think of GW2 as a pen and paper RPG? I am interested in how you would approach it. take the same classes and basic story line? Please elaborate
I have an Ele called Fainting Maiden
The coolest name and player I have seen many times would go to the Asura called Hotdog with Mustard
ha! I just made what I consider a killing!
I lvld up my next crafting tier with a profit! I am so happy
I have a guild problem too
I joined really big guild in the BWE already and I did represent them in the beginning,
But we are a very close group of RL friends that play together so we started a Guild- so what do I do now?
On the one hand I really don’t want to let down the guild who took me in (they are awesome)
But I also want to earn influence for our guild that I play with daily, since I am supposed to be a Guild leader
What do I do? resign from the big guild?
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
hi , this is just an idea as the title says.
Anyone know why we don’t have them?
It would be nice because you get to know posters through their avatars or icons
what do you think?
AC- Ascalon Catacombs
CM- Cadacaus (?) Manor
TH- Twighlight Harbour
SE – Sorrow’s Embrace
CoF- Citadel of Flame
Etc for dungeons
mostly when people say on map xyz is up it means infrequent world boss/event.
Oh just to note, I was innocent in this encounter and was no way playing the devils advocate, I made a comment on how I was sticking it to the drakes with my bow on main chat cause someone asked which was better, long or shortbow, then someone said “Just like I stick it to your mom everynight” so yeah, I’m the one COMPLETELY at fault here.
that is such an obvious troll remark, I can’t believe you fell for it
Playing with your low level friend = simply being their bodyguard/muscle. Nothing more.
Not really no.
Maybe that is just how you play and it might depend on your class.
But really there is no reason for that to be the case- as someone above me said the down leveling system works a lot better once you get out of the starter areas.
@ Rattkin: If you are really set on playing in Sylvari zone- have you tried Brisbane Wildlands? it is the 15+ Sylvari area.
After that you will have to go to other race zones though.
As an aside: I have a dagger/dagger Ele and I found her OP on lower levels but now I have retired her because she might as well have been called Fainting Maiden not for me I guess.

WvW exploits?
I thought the server transfer limitations were to counter the people who would transfer from one server to another, farming chests / crafting materials, repeatedly?
As far as I understood this was exactly the reason for it- maybe the confusion is because it coincided with the longer wvwvw matches. I know of a couple of people who server jumped like a bunch of frogs.
The sooner the servers settle down to a more permanent population, the sooner they will be locked and the sooner we will have guesting.
@ Airala
^ yes I see what you mean^
My main is a Mesmer and I play with my husband- Ranger and our friend lvl 35ish Ranger. The other night my husband was doing a dungeon that I had to miss out on and my husband told me afterward that he wished I had been in there because it would have made his life soo much easier.
High lvl Mesmers are awesome! Your set-up sounds very similar to ours.
I can’t delete my previous post for some reason- so please just ignore it, I realize it is not helpful at all-sorry!
I personally love to find these hidden recipes but yes I have never been on lvl when I have done so.
I think it would be a mistake to just make all these available in the game because then you would just be able to go there and get it. There is no fun in that- for me at least.
What we have done in our community is to post the relevant info for others to use as we come across it. One guy even went so far as to create a website as a data base for armours.
Maybe your guild has something like that? If not, why not make one?
Yeah that was a little bit silly question
I forgot that in GW2 levels are there on map in game. I thought you went for wiki or external sources to gather this data.
hahaha! np
I am completely broke- I think the most I’ve had in this game is 1g.
It is my own fault however, since I have a weakness for dyes and I love crafting.
Since I have all the crafting professions spread over all my characters I can’t really sell mats on the TP.
I developed a bad habit of buying the mats I need at 3 in the morning because I just have to get to the next tier… no sleep= bad financial decisions.
I don’t mind though, it is my choice and I am enjoying myself
Just buy the colour you want off the TP.
No need to ever buy dyes at the gem store
I would also like to see dueling. Last night my friend and I stayed up WAY too late trying to get in an empty sPvP match that would start with just the two of us so we could duel. I’ve often used dueling as a more interactive way to test things out. You know, a “let me see if this build can beat you now” type of thing. Plus, it’s fun.
I am all for preferences where you can choose to 1) automatically refuse all duel requests or 2) automatically refuse all duel requests if not friend-ed or grouped with requester. I have experienced the pushy strangers that spam dueling requests and probably would enable option “2” myself if it existed.
I can also see how it might break immersion in cities. I would fully support an option of dueling only in the Mists, outside of city limits, and designated areas in cities like fighting pits, if that is the concern. The Bane seems like a good area in the Black Citadel.
I’m glad someone else understands why I want the option to ignore duel requests.
As for dueling in cities, make it so! Put an arena in, Arena Net :P! Maybe only in Lion’s Arch if you don’t want to put one in every city. Heck, charge some copper for “seats” (i.e. let people spectate if they want to). Shoot, maybe even allow some wagering (copper/silver/gold) with odds based on the win/loss record of each character.
Let the duelists pick different environs, or even a random one, including under water.
That is actually a really good idea- I like that alot
Duelling is fine if it is in an arena where people who want it can go to knock the stuffing out of each-other if they want.
It is not fine in PVE- I have seen too many cases of people who think they are cool camping spawn point and killing players as they spawn and thinking it is a blast (a friend of mine did this in Aion)
I think that is probably the only thing that would drive me away from this game.
If you want to duel fine- just keep it away from the people who just want to play the game.
hi as the title says:
The underwater areas in the game are some of the most beautiful and mysterious in the game, yet most people I have talked to don’t seek them out at all and if they are forced to go underwater, do what they have to do and get to dry land as soon as possible.
I have a couple of suggestions that might make the underwater areas more appealing to people:
1) A separate tab for underwater skills that you can pick yourself and gets unlocked by earning skill points for it underwater.
This way a player is more invested in the way his character behaves underwater and you also have more choices.
2) More underwater weapons, that are class specific and more choices.
- think ink grenades , a range of sonic weapons that maybe apply a mark so that subsequent attacks by allies do more damage, nets, etc etc.
I realize a lot of these are already skills on various underwater weapons, my suggestion would be to spread it out over several weapon choices.
I am basically suggesting that your character has a separate skill/trait/weapon tab- for underwater.
What do you guys think?
I got it in my personal story- at first I laughed but after the 10th time I just thought “hey thanks exploiters for ruining my immersion and stealing my loot”
Seriously it is not the greatest solution sure, but it wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for people farming the kitten out of mobs and basically finding a loop hole around playing the game.
Thank you for the update, it means a lot to me to see a company respond to real issues, keep up the good work.
I log in everyday for as long as my RL will let me
I am still having as much fun as I did at head-start, actually I think I’m having more fun because the population has calmed down and I have a better grasp of my main profession. I got exactly what I wanted and was expecting from the game so I’m very satisfied. I will be logging on for years. Now my only concern is that they might bring out new content before I feel I have done everything I want to
@ Ratkin: I am not sure I understand your question but I’ll give a go at an answer
If you open your map tap you will see that the zones are roughly lvl graded. I don’t know how much you normally travel around on the map or if you just stick to one zone but you can essentially go to any other area via the asura gates in your main city that links to Lion’s Arch and from there to any other city.
Since your friend is lvl 10- I assume that you have been playing in the Sylvari starter area
That leaves the human Starter zone (Queensdale), The Charr (Plains of Ashford), Norn (Wayfarer Foothills) and the Asura ( Metrica Province). All those areas fall in the 1-15/17 lvl range) and are drastically different with different kinds of quests and events.
The other option, if you want more of a challenge – would be to go to the various 15-25 lvl areas. That might be very though on your friend (depending on what class she is) but it is do able. It really all depends on how much of a challenge you want in the game. Hopping around on the map can be great fun. I hope this was what you asked
Hi- I play with a lower lvl friend a lot- my main is lvl 68 his highest is about 35ish.
We tried playing with alts but that sucked for us because we are both invested in our mains. We also tried doing stuff the other has done before to show the ropes kind of deal but that is not really fun for exactly the reasons you have said.
Our solution has been to pick a lvl appropriate for him on a map that neither of us have been to before- there are surprisingly many to choose from.
This worked really well, since we could both see new stuff, explore and help each-other do the hearts and vistas etc.
To my great surprise I have found this much more challenging even when down lvl-d as opposed to areas where I have been before where I pretty much march through.
I have also noticed that I get the correct drops for my level for those new areas.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
My experience has been, that it’s been completely worthless running magic find in dungeons, as I’ll be running say 60% magic find (stats wise per the items), and my guildi will have crit damage gear. He found 3 gold items in a period of 5 dungeons, and I got zero, and also got 1/4th of the green items as well.
Literally the only thing I have noticed it impact, is when I mine ore. With magic find gear, I seem to get gems, and without it, I don’t. That wasn’t the case at the lower levels pre-magic find gear. But post higher levels, it seems the only time I get “bonus” stuff is with magic find. I also get bags of hidden loot, and sometimes other odds and ends while chopping trees, or nabbing some raspberries. I haven’t noticed a single difference otherwise and in fact, to the contrary.
Exactly this.
I have only found it useful in gathering stuff- putting magic find in armour makes no sense. It is extremely useful to me since I am addicted to crafting but I use cooking buffs instead and put more logical things in my armour
My best advice is to show her how to move with the mouse and and just let her play on her own pc next to you while you are running a dungeon. She’ll figure it out soon enough and she won’t get as frustrated. The world is beautiful and very accessible. GW2 is a great game for introducing some-one to gaming.
Does she play games at all? Maybe she is just not used to moving with a keyboard?
If that is the case let her try and walk with her mouse by holding the left and right buttons. Frankly I think it is awesome that she wants to try it again given how frustrated and confused she must have felt.
Oh and btw I am a woman ;P
I am having a blast- I love this game, I spent so much time crafting this weekend that I gained 10 lvls by accident and spent the whole night making insignias in my dreams
I find myself looking to find more time to play- my real life is going down the drain- luckily it is winter here so no-one really expects you to leave the house much.
Why are so many people still using this stupid “endgame” phrase? Traditional endgame is terrible, and I’m glad GW2 does away with it. This idea that the only fun stuff is at the end and everything else is filler until you’re max level is one of the most absurd ideas to ever rear it’s ugly head in gaming.
“But this game would be so good if it had a way to constantly increase your stats post-max level like in WoW…”
That crap sucked. That’s why this game is different.
“…or if there was some way to get better gear than other players in sPvP by playing longer…”
No, that crap also sucks. That’s another reason this game is different.
“…and in other games I can farm…”
Farming sucks, and it draws players away from content. It funnels players to specific content instead of spreading them out across the game. You wanna see how well funneling players to specific content works? Take a look at pretty much any area in WoW that’s not the main quest hub for the most recent expansion. Dead as dead gets.
Everything you people keep asking for sucks. That’s why Guild Wars 2 was created; so the rest of us who care about gameplay and don’t need some infinite climb in numbers “endgame” to satiate a short-man complex can finally have an MMORPG that’s actually worth playing.
You sir, deserve a medal. I couldn’t agree with you more.
There is sooo much I still want to do in this game.
Over the last two days I have done 100% on a zone, ran a dungeon, helped a lower lvl friend explore a region neither of us has been in, bought a cool skin for my GS, did some personal story, earned 400+ influence for my guild, crafted my way to 300ish on my Jewelry profession that I have neglected so far.
I am not at 80- I am at 67. I understand that people don’t like Orr.
But there is a huge world out there to play in with tons of stuff to do- it doesn’t suddenly go away because you’re at lvl cap.
I certainly don’t see myself suddenly changing my play style because I hit 80- I’ll just go on playing the game- I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface
edit: at the OP i really think their end- game philosophy is like a breath of fresh air and is imo a really good choice for a game like GW2, that more resembles a virtual world as a backdrop for your own goals and adventures- or at least that is how I see it.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
You people are screaming your head off because you cannot have everything the game has to offer instantly.
It is an MMO, it is supposed to be played for a long time- crying because you cannot have a legendary weapon a month after the game releases is ridiculous. The term is legendary for a reason.
The problem is the attitude of instant gratification- if you don’t get it you throw your toys out of the cot.
To the person who said Orr is not a pleasant stroll in the park- of course it is not! Have you followed the story at all or did you skip through the dialogue because it is just two people talking and not a cinematic?
You know, I came to these forums because I thought it was a place to discuss the game- it is not.
In fact it is the most unbelievably self entitled bunch of whiners I have ever seen- there are people on here who don’t even play the game yet they feel free to come here complain.
So cheers.
I will just go play my game in peace
