I get that the Mad King lore is sort of painted over the idea of Halloween but I really don’t like the idea of real holidays in a fantasy setting.
Tyria is Tyria not the US.
Where I live we are not even celebrating Halloween now but Beltane, which is a fertility festival.
I didn’t realize how much it bothered me until this festival rolled round- I was all excited and it was really well done, but in the end I gave it a skip because I just felt that a mainstream human holiday is forced on my character. So for the duration I avoided LA and just went on with my game. I would be even more upset if they gave us Thanksgiving.- A US holiday that has nothing to do with the rest of the world let alone Tyria.
I would dearly love if we could have holidays/festivals unique to Tyria and the different races that have no relation whatsoever to RL
Unless you do not use a greatsword, keep it and make your legendary down the road.
It seems that the precursors are by far the hardest part of the legendary to get.
Since the Mystic Forge loves you, you are almost obliged to make a legendary.
Seriously though, do what you want- it is yours
Congrats!
Man that is sad…
I feel for you
At lvl 25 you can refine as much raw materials as you have/ can get your hands on.
leather and Jute for leaterworking and copper ore for jeweler.
You get the gems from mining so you should at least have a couple so just make some settings, bands, hooks, chains and combine those with every gem you have until you have discovered all the items.
For leatherworking you will need to make components, like boot soles, boot uppers etc and then you make insignia’s using jute and tier one fine materials like tiny venom, claws, totems etc. ( these are listed in your production tab)
You combine the insignia, boot sole, boot upper in the discovery tab and do that for each insignia you can make and all the different armor pieces.
Hope that helps you.
Oh btw try not to make coats and leggings unless you are making it for yourself since they use more materials
oh and you will need to buy jute thread from the master leatherworker standing next to the station to make anything.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
I have Jeweler and Tailor on my Mesmer and I found it very useful.
I pretty much crafted my armor and trinkets all the way to 80 and Jewelry is also a decent money source at 400.
As Celestial said you should get the mats yourself since gems can be expensive.
Crafting armor to your own specs is also a huge bonus
click on the bot so that they are selected, right click, choose the report for botting function
Nooooo! Tell me it is not true!
I love that statue- just the other day, I spent ages just watching the ships and the sea dragon go by looking at the fountains and how they change and even play a tune- My daughter loves that statue too.
I have countless screens of it.
This morning I was in the piazza thinking " I wonder when the Statue will be back to normal, I miss it."
People complained about it? Why?
Recently I have played in Queensdale, Gendarren Fields, Snowden Drifts, Diessa Plateau, Fire Heart Rise, Iron Marches, Frostgorge Sound, Timberline Falls.
I play mostly on afterwork hours and weekends in EU on Gunnar’s Hold.
I have yet to see an empty map.
Always there are enough players to do events and take down a boss. If you start the event solo within a minute or two more players show up, they might not always talk in map chat but the players are there.
I would love to make my own bangs and set my own hair length. I am in perpetual envy of all the wonderful long hair options the Norn has yet as a Human my choices are very limited. Most of my characters are running around in various bob styles.
Another thing that I think would be cool would be to add different channels to hair so that you can use multiple colors like highlights.
I would gladly pay gems for any of these options
Yay for all of the above, with an extra yay for condition damage/ precision/ toughness.
It would be awesome if we could get some rare, difficult to get recipes with stats that are in high demand
you can craft directly from the bank with components- no need to take them out.
Also in the case of jewelry you have only so many things that you need to discover:
In the production window make some- hooks, settings, bands chains and filligree.
You combine the filligree with the gems in the discovery and then you combine the finished jewel with the various components to make rings, ear-rings and amulets, also in the discovery tab.
You can also upgrade your gems through the different tiers in the production window.

Mesmers are complex and tricky and you have to know exactly what all of their skills do because they are very situational. It never gets boring because every encounter is different.
You have to micro manage them though and as said the first 30-40 lvls are hard until you get the hang of the mechanics.
They have good survive-ability and they can be devastating if used correctly.
I have a lvl 15 or so Guardian because I was attracted to the idea of a “sword saint” but to be honest, I find it hard going because I find Guardian boring after playing a Mesmer so long and I feel that my Guardian has an identity crisis due to too many weapon choices.
Ironically I find my Guardian dying more than the Mesmer- I think I just suck at melee classes
Necro I deleted at lvl5 because I couldn’t stand the pets and skills. So no help there I guess.
As you can see I have most experience with Mesmer and tbh it is by far my favorite class. Since you enjoy an Elementalist you might like it too.
oh as an aside, Thief is also great fun.
No thanks- just the fact that the OP used the word grinding three times in his post put me off already.
I love the way this game frees you from having to do x to get y so that you can do z, rinse and repeat.
I cannot tell you how relieved I felt when I got to 80 and realized that I can do what I want and my gear will not out date itself 2 months down the road because I have a RL and don’t play games as a second job.
There are many many other games that give you a gear treadmill, gated content etc. Gw2 is not one of them thank the six!
This would be very useful, agreed.
I also find the demarcation between different zones very difficult to see on the map, if I’m missing a skill point or whatever I often can’t tell if it is in the next zone or not.
I also use an interactive map when I am stuck
http://gw2cartographers.com/
but it would be great if we could have it in the game.
I found the followers list useful, because often the people on it where people I had met and did stuff with and for some reason didn’t add ( probably because it was late) or people I know from other sources and didn’t think to add ( again my own oversight)
I found it quite helpful- It shows me who is interested in playing with me. I add them and the more the merrier
Need a dungeon group? whisper your friends
you get the idea.
If you are being stalked hit the report and block button. No more problem
Repair bills aren’t that much and not often at all. Last time I paid, I think, 3 silvers or so and yes I am in exotics. Really, think of it as a reminder to pay attention and not to die. Sure sometimes you have a slip up but 3 silver really is not that bad. Never having played GW1, I can’t comment but my friend who did told me death penalties where quite steep- this is here-say however so it might be completely untrue.
Also you don’t get armor damage from being knocked out, or even from falling- just out right dying.
I would really like this too, I have a very small guild .
Our first project was to raise influence to research Guild Armor since this was what my guild voted for. Now it is a useless upgrade because no-one is willing to ruin their hard earned skins to wear the Guild Armour.
We have a nice guild emblem- it would be nice to wear it.
My suggestion would be to make the emblem scale-able and then just have designated zones on the armor where it might be placed.
Think dummy with a zone for shoulders, back, front, left/right arm etc.
That way each person can scale the emblem to the place it would look best on their particular armor.
I don’t know how do-able that is but it would be awesome.
OT- i don’t really see Skritt as a playable race. Awesome as they are.
Having a multiple entity as a playable character is certainly a novel concept but I simply can’t see Skritt being complex enough to play the existing professions.
How would that work anyway? Say you have 3 Skritt as a single character and you play a Mesmer? O-O.
An Ele? Imagine all three casting meteor shower, my retinas burn just at the thought.
Funny but not viable I think.
Some of the other races might work out but as someone else said people do like to play more humanoid characters.
My vote would go to the Kodan but that is just preference for their Philosophy- I was really upset at the HOtW story mode!
@Morrigan
Seriously ? Type /age in game and tell me the number.
I don’t see you point but here is a screen for you.
@Morrigan
My point is that I find it too easy to claim that it’s the mind set of other games (WoW mostly) that is the reason why we don’t appreciate GW2 enough.
I even find that insulting: as if i’m not critical enough to judge GW2 for what it is, as if that WoW mindset is obscuring my vision…I find GW2 lacking in many fields, and I find it great in other fields.
I can make that judgement without being brainwashed by another game, thank you.
I never mentioned WOW in my post since I have never played it- I simply see that a lot of people who are disappointed in GW2 do compare it to other games, WOW just being one of them.
You yourself said that you compare it to GW1.
My point was that there are people who do enjoy the game for what it is- but the assumption on this forum seems to be that if you really enjoy GW2 than you are somehow lacking, either in skill, critical faculties or are not a lvl 80.
That is condescending to say the least.
GW2 does not play like other games, it caters to a different mindset and market, at least that is what I think.
There are a lot of people happily playing the game, exactly because it not like all the other MMO’s out there.
@ Stobor
Do you really want to know?
I play the game, I explore, I do events, I help my friends, I look for secrets, I love going into every cave I find just to see what’s there, I work on my gear steadily, I save up so I can play with MF recipes because you have awesome skins from the Forge.
I love following events to see what happens and if I can trigger something I haven’t seen before- often it does.
I love piecing together the interwoven story of the world by observing and participating in what is happening around me. I could go on but I guess that doesn’t sound endgame enough for you guys.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
To all of the people stating that there is not enough to do at 80- this is your opinion and it is fine as such.
Just remember that there are those who do find a lot to do at 80 because they are enjoying the game for what it is.
So all those asking for the game to change so that they can be entertained, there are people who entertained already and maybe OP is making a point that it is the mindset of other games that ruins it for you.
Mesmer GS is not over rated. It is seriously awesome and I love it.
Shh don’t tell though
I can’t personally speak for other classes but my hubby has a Ranger and a Guardian and it seems like they have nothing on the Mesmer GS. That might just be my bias speaking
I like crafting at lvl 80 because I make my own trinkets and I have tailoring, so I just buy the cheapest version of the skins I like off the TP and then craft my own specs and transmute.
For PvP stats you are mostly out of luck though. E.g you cannot craft precision/toughness/condition damage stats.
I have always thought that they might be tied to events that aren’t active at that particular time?
I have found a few that are driving me nuts trying to trigger events for them
Waypoints cost a lot but it is not excessive at 80, I can waypoint to a map that I want to explore make the money back doing one heart and vendoring my drops.
It is not a problem. The rest of the time I’m playing I don’t use them unless I want to log out in Divinty’s Reach.
Last night a friend wanted to join us but he had no points on that map, he took the nearest one he had, we simply ran to get him, it took 5 min and we could continue on our merry way.
It really doesn’t stop you playing with friends at all.
Also armor repairs? I can’t remember last time I repaired my armor and I am a Mesmer.
I have no idea but if you have a guild bank you can deposit it for your guildy there and he can withdraw it – providing you both have bank privileges
Not sure about others but Gunnar’s Hold has the Initiative Alliance and MARA . It seems like a lot of mature players rolled there and it is a nice comminity
I did Whispers, and I loved him.
Am I just a sad cynical person that I expected that?,
and what is worse, I keep expecting him to come back!!! arrrrgh
I am so conflicted, I have been 80 for ages and don’t want to finish my story because of Tybalt!
At your lvl 33 gold is a bit of overkill-as even 1 g would be enough to buy anything you could want. ( I’m lvl 80 and I have never had that much money :P )
My husband and I send each other small amounts of gold all the time 1-3g at the most and I have never even thought about the possibility of getting banned.
You might just want to do your story line since it awards you with gear for the next level for free and is a great way to outfit yourself in lower lvls when money is scarce. Some skins you can only get through playing the story.
I just read the OP again and I am still not sure what you are actually saying.
Are you saying a casual player can’t get xp or are you saying a casual player can’t look nice with out spending RL money?
Or are you just saying you can’t wait for a legendary?
OK here is my opinion:
A casual player gets as much xp as a player who plays his life away, just at a slower rate.
A casual player can absolutely look great without grinding gold and or spending RL cash. Yes you can look great by just playing the game- again it just takes longer.
As for legendary weapons, they are legendary, rare, much sought after and for the casual player it will take a long, long time to get one.
See the theme here? All good things take time.
I also love the char areas- I think they have a unique beauty.
Fire Heart Rise and Iron Marches are my favorite in the whole game.
I also love the Charr themselves , they have a very dry type of humor that I really like
After visiting them on our Main characters, my husband and I level our alts, a Human Thief and Norn Guardian in the char zones.
We did do most of the maps on our lvl 80’s as well.
That said I don’t find them empty at all, the maps seem just as full as any other. The population on my server seems to be spread out across all maps so nowhere is ever really empty.

I’m flat broke atm.
I don’t play the TP, too much hassle :P
On My 80 Mesmer I can usually make between 1-3g a play session but I have a shiny addiction so I have Exotic armour, weapons and some jewelry.
I have also started buying the Whispers Armour, I couldn’t resist it.
I spend a lot on dyes, not unidentified ones, specific ones I like the look of.
I have Jeweler and Tailor at 400.
Now enters my Thief- at lvl16 she had one gold.
She is a Leatherworker and Huntman at 100 -125.
Where ever she goes loot seems to rain down on her from the sky.
Last night in about 10 min she kitted herself in greens for her lvl just from drops.
I’m going to get her to support all my characters.
I only just saw this.
Congratulations to the winner, what an awesome prize
Thank you LoneWolfie for having this contest, I can totally understand your criteria and can see that you put some thought into it.
I can’t believe I made the short list Woot!
this is intentional?
I thought it was a glitch, lol
Yes please bring back the old UI.
No lag here, I agree with Haishao.
My husband and I play together on our connection ( 2Mb )and we haven’t had lag since just after launch.

I started this game on low setting in the beta’s.
Then I realized I could turn the graphics up and my character died because I was so shocked at how beautiful the game was.
So yes, mine looks like that as well- No wonder I have such a huge screens folder.
Yay, I am so happy for this.
It was really irritating that my PvE skills were continually readjusted just because people don’t like Mesmers in PvP.
Keeping the skills separate can only be good for all the professions.
Good Job Arena Net and Thank you.
@ Drunken MadKing- hahahaha! yes, I crafted it and it is rather cute- it would be hilarious to to that!
Stat wise in case you were wondering it is just a standard beginner sword so you could use it as a weapon if you wanted.
Thanks for the replies.
I saw this recipe at a karma vendor in Wayfarer Foothills yesterday and I was so intrigued I bought it.
I see that wooden swords are for sale on the TP as well.
Does anyone know the purpose of this? Is it just a low lvl sword, used in creating a recipe or what?
It makes no sense to sell the recipe for karma if it has no use
Any have any ideas?
going to go craft it now.
As the person above me said salvage, only the whites and salvage items though.
Sell the blues and the greens if you don’t use them and buy the rest that you might need, jute is cheap now
Also bags you get from centaurs and bandits will give you jute if I remember correctly.

Yeah well, I got so desperate for gossamer that I took a gamble and made some in the forge- it got me 28 scraps for about 20 silver since I already had most of the ingredients. It gave me 13 bolts- I think.
If I feel lucky I will do it again since I have gotten 0 from salvage.
Ecto’s yes, gossamer not at all.
You need 30 bolts just for the insignia’s on exotic armor, not counting the armor pieces itself.
I always play mage classes in games and I was convinced that I would have an Ele as a main.
I tried Elementalist in one of the betas and thought hell yeah- I was right.
Then In the next Beta I made a Mesmer on a whim, just to check them out and fell in love.
The Mesmer plays unlike any other class out there. It is challenging, fun and your skills are very situational, you have to pay attention or you are dead.
I love the feeling of synergy when you are in the moment and everything just flows.
My Mesmer has been 80 for a while and I still play her almost exclusively. My Ele is sitting in Divinity’s Reach at lvl6.
Tonight, my husband and I were running around Iron Marches, when we came over a hill and in the gully in front of us there marched an entire army of branded.
We jumped in front of them as one and held the line and killed every single one of them ourselves.
Then the next wave came, together with the branded char commander,
we killed all of them too and never moved an inch!
It was a true- you shall not pass! – moment
Mesmer and Ranger make a really cool team.
Hahaha!
I joined the circus and all the cloak and dagger, dress up stuff made me later join the Whispers and it made sense to me since my character is a Mesmer.
I loved that story line.
@ OP yes that armor is human cultural armor- not sure which tier though
Here is the link to the community project-
http://www.pinkday.gamergivingback.com/
I found it on GW2 facebook
Please note this is a community project and as such has nothing to do with Anet- so you cannot expect them to keep us updated.
Enjoy, take your time and smell the roses- welcome to the game
As far as I understand it is a community project and only some servers are involved since the community volunteered.
We had an announcement in map chat today that it is 18h00 GMT – On Gunnar’s Hold at least.
There is a server list of activities somewhere on this forum, or on the GW2 Facebook page.
Curious about method ANet would say is efficient for some unique weapons, etc

I see the Tri force pendant kind of like the legendary of trinkets- sure you can’t get it right now, but so what?
Nothing is chasing you, get it in your own time, or not.
I really don’t understand the level of anxiety in your posts- it is just a game, you can take your time.
Well, its already in an existing post but vanilla beans, and before that black peppercorns. I believe it was changed as people were buying them with karma from higher level areas then selling them on the TP – primarily from Milton Boon, from what I read.
I am curious to know how that can be, since every cooking ingredient I have ever bought with karma is account bound?
How did they sell it on the TP?
OT- it is possible to lvl cooking using just items that are easily available,
I am sure you have this already but just in case
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/cook
this may give you some ideas about alternatives
