@ OP great ideas! I would love for the personal story to continue and your ideas make both sense and sound very plausible- I would certainly play it
@ OP
If you are looking for a nice friendly EU server come to Gunnar’s Hold.
There are lots of people around on the maps and people are really helpful.
We also seem to have a bunch of new players coming in regularly.
Just last week as I was leveling my ele and struggling a bit- another ele on the map that was fighting next to me stopped, offered me some help and even linked me a video.
Another time someone was asking for help with a champ and I asked for a way point link another random player then immediately whispered me to ask if I needed help and if someone had showed me how to link in map yet
I am not a new player but I found it nice that players are so willing to help newcomers.
It is a nice server- give it a go
I’m too old and bitter to enjoy Sylvari. They’re all like, what? 25 year-old newborns? So full of life and hope and all that other useless stuff.
Yes! I think that is my problem with the Sylvari too.
They are so optimistic and nice I just want to hit the nearest one with a plank- I tried making one in BWE3 but I deleted it so fast she didn’t even hit lvl4.
Originally I thought of making a Sylvari main, since I like their lore.
The reality put me off- no thanks.
I don’t have a problem with new content as such, I just wish they would develop and build on the current content more.
I appreciate the bug fixes in the last patch much more than constant new stuff.
There is a whole world with huge potential that could be built on and added to, never mind content that players have been asking for since the game launched, before they just randomly add new stuff.
But that is just my opinion.
I like the Norn, Human and Charr starter zones. I actually I love all the Charr zones
I dislike the Sylvari in general and have never finished their zone, after 5 min of hearing “all things have a right to grow” I want to punch someone, so I leave.
Haven’t played the Asura area much either since I don’t like the quests- but that may be because I play humans and the whole crazy scientist thing that the Asuras have just work on my nerves. Especially since the outcome of any Asura experiment is pretty predictable.
No need to remember where the Karma vendors are:
http://dulfy.net/2012/08/28/guild-wars-2-karma-vendor-list/
It makes sense to have to travel for ingredients since not all things grow in all climates, it makes the world a bit more alive imo.
If we all had access to our own farms people would just stash everything in there and while cool would completely negate the need to harvest in the world.
just don’t make the same mistake I did and sell it for 3g- I can kick myself
It could just be luck, but I noticed significantly better drops this morning than I’ve seen in the past couple of weeks. I didn’t get any more green/yellow/golds drops, but I saw a drastic increase in the number of dropped crafting materials. Could just be luck, though.
Also, since they never admitted that the reduced drop rate was a bug in the first place, they’re probably never going to announce when it is fixed. Make sure to look at loot you get an a per-session basis and evaluate if it’s still as bad as it has been. If they did increase the drop rate, and we all still complain about it being bad, we hurt our credibility for detecting changes of this type “moving forward”.
As far as I’ve been able to tell, crafting material rates weren’t affected after the rare drop rate ultra-nerf.
same here, crafting materials are abundant, just no loot.
Don’t take me wrong, I love crafting materials.
But training books cost gold.
I guess I am the freak that likes Orr?
I like the mobs, I like the DE’s and no harts -yay
it makes for much more intense game play.
I also like the architecture.
I like the whole zombie army thing it makes sense to me.
flame suit deployed
We are at least a week and a half away on a fix for this, possibly longer depending on how long it takes to test it properly, we wouldn’t want to deploy anything that makes the issue worse!
That would be the first time then….
In my opinion each patch have so far created more problems than fixes.
Not picking on you specifically but the community has complained for a while now that we get no definite answers from devs.
Now that Collin made one- saying they are aware of the problem, working on it and even giving a time frame.
You guys jump all over that post?
Seriously, are you surprised that they don’t want to communicate with us?
What more do you guys want?
OT I still think it was a patch that addressed priorities, bug fixes and event fixes, so yes I am happy.
I would like the downscaling to be harder but I can understand it would be difficult.
1: Exotics have 3 bonuses and will have a gem with 3 bonuses. Lower levels you are lucking to have an unslotted blue in each spot and that’s with less # of bonuses.2: Skills: Elite skills and Tier 3 utility skills weren’t even an option at lower levels.
That was what I was referring to when I made the suggestion that we be leveled under zone lvl.
For an 80 in exotics it is so easy as to be ridiculous, hell, last night on my lvl40 ele I went to Queensdale to quickly get my last event for my dailies and it was embarrassing.
I felt bad- I don’t want to walk over everything and one shot mobs when level players are fighting for their lives. It makes me feel like a bully.
I love the world and I love to explore, I just want a challenge too.
meh some people like to be gods walking around in low levels
I think down leveling is a brilliant system but it is not strict enough
My suggestion: the higher your level compared to the zone the more you should scale down.
Starting at 3 lvls below zone lvl.
Drops appropriate for your actual level.
That way it will be both rewarding and challenging.
I think it is vitally important that you all keep firmly in mind that this is in no way a bug.
The current pattern that loot scaling has followed through the initial bot flourish (which stayed in it’s heavily infested state despite much player outrage for some time before suddenly being ‘attended to’) whilst the ‘unfortunately necessary dr changes’ were instigated in reaction to the large bot population, through to what we have had now since Lost Shores in terms of heavily reduced loot/materials, is no absolutely no way accidental, or a by-product of poor coding or haphazard mistakes.
Bots served their purpose, and will continue to do so through these current and pending cycles that are proceeding quite according to the plan, sadly enough.
I see what you are saying but I hope you are wrong. I have never been affected by DR since I do not farm but play the map. I have seen a significant loot drop since the 15 Nov patch and not before.
I liked the fact that there where less bots and that materials where more expensive simply because I could actually make money crafting by using what I collected and finding a wanted item on the TP to craft. The drops I had, I sold or salvaged to finance my own goals.
The problem now is that no-one in the open world gets decent drops anymore.
This may very well discourage botting but it impacts the actual player to such a degree that it becomes difficult to play the game.
This is compounded by the fact that dungeon drops are not affected and everyone I know who plays FoTM claims that it rains loot from the skies.
This is not right.
Congrats!
It looks awesome and really suits your character
Nice reward for hard work and nice to see that time and effort can accomplish your goals.
Enjoy your beautiful new weapon.
I just read the notes and I am happy with the fact that this patch focused on bug fixing.
I am also really glad to see that the event near the monastery has been fixed, maybe I can get the Shadow Behemoth going
It is a nice patch- just a pity there is no word about the loot drops.
It says something when the reward for completing a map is more than the sum total of clearing the map, even when you can’t use any of it.
It is all very well to make dungeons attractive but really, people who do dungeons are doing them already, some of us are not interested and rather want to play in the world the devs spent years creating.
If this game is to appeal to all types of players something will have to be done.
Many of us have been playing in the open world since 15 Nov patch and it has not all been smooth going with players being sucked into FoTM, this loot bug (and I DO call it a bug) is making it even harder to just enjoy the game for what it is.
Playing for fun is my main ambition, it is not fun when you can’t break even.
That could go for housing too-
as well as another craft called weaver- for things like linen, curtains, rugs etc.
I would go with looks as well- I wore a combo of different armors on my Mesmer leveling and I have yet to see anyone like her- currently she is wearing transmuted Whispers armor with transmuted Winged boots and I love it.
When I was in the betas I fell in love with the Winged set artwork and as soon as I could I crafted it only to transmute it five minutes later since every second person seems to wear it.
My Ele just turned 45 and she is shaping up nicely as well- and since she is Vigil, I will probably get her some Vigil armor later
- She is still wearing her starter gem and using a very early story reward staff, that she will probably still be using at 80.
what again?
0-0
kids must be bored- I assume it is in LA?
Yes well- I was glad when I read the patch notes that promised better loot drops for champs etc.
I swear after playing for the last two weeks on my alt- I will scream if I see another porous bone!
Most of the mobs give nothing, it cannot be just bad luck, it is too consistent.
I saw a yellow for the first time yesterday since the patch- I gave it to my husband.
This makes me furious and i don’t even care about loot- I just want to play the game in the world and be able to at least not make a loss!
Funnily enough, the places that I visit always seem alive. If you’re on the map, see an event and can’t do it alone, yell on the map chat. Leveling 2 chars at the moment and this is what people do. Every single zone as far as I’ve seen has between 10 and 30 players at all times.
This is very true- atm I’m lvling my alt and all that is needed is just to ask in map chat, link a waypoint and people will come.
Last night my husband and I wanted to do an event but we needed more people, we asked and since the nearest waypoint was contested we set about opening it up with the 5 others that came to our call, then we did the event.
Later one of those players asked for help with a champ and we rushed over to help- so it goes. Help with a Skill point, vista, champ, event- just ask
It worked perfectly for me and has made me very happy since I couldn’t stand looking at my ele anymore. Now I love her. If I could just get a name change too I’d be in heaven
before- blond bambi midget
after- sort of Lucy Liu and much much taller
My husband and I are currently leveling alts and lo and behold there seems to be a lot of players doing the same thing.
We have also noticed that the players we run into in the world are even nicer than before, when we leveled our mains.
We came to the conclusion that the function of FoTM is to suck all the kittens out of the world map and confine them in one spot, so that the rest of us can get on with our game.
We have had a great time this week
Shatterer is my favourite- soo pretty
Claw of Jormag is the most fun to fight
Tequatl is just meh- still want to go fry him with that mega laser, for some reason I couldn’t interact with it at the time.
@ Karizee: I’ve come across that theory before
and it is certainly interesting but I can’t see it being true since the Sylvari are a playable race- that would create all kinds of problems I think.
Hi and welcome
This game can be very overwhelming at first- check out this thread it may help you
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together
After playing on my Elementalist alt all week, I have to conclude that Mesmer (main) is king
eh..so you want a shortbow that looks like a longbow? The graphic is the same, its just the size difference..if that is your issue then yeah you’re hosed..because as far as I know all shortbows are well..short
what he said- those are the same skins basically- really nice skin btw
You are very talented and I love the looseness of your drawings !
If you are still up for it could you please draw my Mesmer Diamond Mask?
I include a loading screen pic for additional reference since my screenies are a bit darkoooooooooh i like that dress its really pretty
wich one is it?
That’s the Order of Whispers set
That’s right
- I love that set!

What they should have done is have no downscaling. However if you fight something or join a party with a lower level then you should down scaled.
Otherwise generally farming and exploring shouldn’t be made hard for you. I think.
That makes no sense. Might aswell not party then. They’ll still get credit for whatever it is they needed help with and your idea in general just kills the core of GW2 lvling.
Your going to have to explain. The point is not to party but to return to previous zones to explore or harvest. Otherwise general enjoy the zone for what it is an artistic piece. I don’t see how it kills the leveling. If your level 80 your not exactly going to level very far. The point of this thread is descaling. What exactly is this “core”. Most don’t party to begin with, but if your going to party you should be the parties level. Which is already the case with the game. So….lowering your level when you join a party in a lower level zone is already part of the game. So I’m not exactly getting your point. Since there is already a descaling in the game that is “core” I don’t see how it kills it.
Basically your 80 in a level 20-30 zone, but as soon as you engage in combat or join a party you immediately revert back to the max which would be 30. To prevent people from just power leveling every player in the game. It’s not like they can hold aggro without attacking. I think you should be able to wonder around as a level 80.
It’s not that great of an idea, but at least it was an idea. Cause it really doesn’t solve the problem of the fundamental under lining effect, that players feel weak as they progress at no time do players feel like they have achieved anything and they can’t even go back to lower levels to feel like they have achieved something.
I don’t understand what you are saying.
if you get down leveled when you are in combat/in a party, how is that different from being down leveled all the time like it is now?
I also love the system and I explore lower level areas all the time because I enjoy it and because I eventually want 100%
I have never had a problem with mobs- most of the time I ignore them since they can’t really hurt me- I only bother to kill them if I accidently pull a bunch near a real low lvl player.
My main is a mesmer so it’s not like I’m a heavy armored power mower either.
I wish sometimes I could be down leveled more since I’ve felt like an idiot when I forget I’m 80 and then when I want to help a player valiantly fighting some mobs, I inevitably one shot them.
It could very easily be transmuted skins- I did that with some of my armors since I hated, hated the Exalted skin, same goes for my husband, he is a leatherworker and he has definitely transmuted entire sets of armor the moment he crafted them.
That said- I did run around for ages in my whispers rares, while my exotic set was sitting in my bank so who knows?
Regarding the keys, if you need them badly, just create an alt and storyline them to L10 where you receive one as a reward. Much, much easier and faster this way.
This begs the question: how does story quest rewards work when multiple people are partaking in the same story quest (that they are all on)? A party of 5 players could probably clear the story quest up to 10 fairly easy. Would that be one key for each player (all using the same race and relevant background)?
The player whos storyline it is, is the only one who receives any reward.
Now, I haven’t tried to pair up with anyone who has the exact same level and exact same storyline to complete the exact same ‘stage’ so I have no idea how the rewards are handled in that situation, but it’s my guess that whoever starts the quest will be the one to receive the ‘phat lutes’ and then the partied friend will receive theirs when they trigger the stage again.
But i’d be interested to find out!
if you are both on the same story line the other player can choose to accept the story as his or to replay it at the end of the chapter
If he accepted, he gets his own reward since the completed chapter counts as his own story progression.
I have done this with my husband on all our characters.
If you want to play with your friend, pick a class that compliments his.
since I don’t know what class your friend is playing, I can’t really say anything
I have found that certain combinations of classes play fun with me and my husband,
we play thief and engineer, elementalist and guardian, and our mains are mesmer and ranger
actually I think you should just play what you want and then spec for how you play with your friend
Another useful one is
http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/human-light.htm
it will show you everything.
combined with this
http://dulfy.net/2012/08/28/guild-wars-2-karma-vendor-list/
you can find anything
thanks, unfortunately I have no idea where I got the staff- I think it might have been a personal story reward- often transmuted
atm I am rocking my Whispers set – I am a little in love with it.I am thrilled the game has transmutation. I am in love with my armor set and I am overjoyed I can keep the cosmetics while upgrading the stats!
Cosmetics in this game rocks!
I love transmutation stones myself and I carry several in my inventory at all times.
I also love how you can mix and match armour sets to get a unique look and just put the stats you want on them..
Now for a shameless plugg pic- since I am in love with this look.
Whispers set with transmuted Winged boots since the Whispers boots are fugly- the whole set is now transmuted with exotic carrion stats. so yay.
but this is 80 so it is not what you are looking for

sorry, I hide my hood and the shoulders I show but it is a tiny jewel

You want to know why no one is in Orr?
Probably because it’s one of the worst spots to level or even to get equipment. High density, very strong monsters over there.
Most high level players are in 60-75 zones or in LA
. No reason to deal with the headache that is “Orr”.
While I agree that Orr is not for leveling, you must admit that Orr is fun- strong monsters, crazy cc, insane spawn times, no hearts and non stop DE everywhere…..
it is the Zombie Apocalypse!
Get your kitten together and mow some zombies
Seriously I love Orr.
for me personally LA was a no go zone even before Fractals.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
OP I agree with you that higher level maps are empty.
When I was leveling up my main I solo’d a lot of content simply because I could.
This is not the case anymore and I have to duo with my husband to complete maps on our alts.
I think that loot is indeed the issue. People are vanishing into fractals because it has the best loot drops in the game.
I don’t run fractals so meh.
The world will be revitalized when loot drops according to char lvl not map lvl, and adding incentive by giving lvl appropriate drops for champs and DE’s it is sad but that is the truth.
I don’t condone it but it would work.
Is this thread about kitten ? Because my kitten is gigantic.
More seriously, I’m running what I think is a bit of an unsual spec for my thief compared to the average glass cannon build so with my gear in tune with my spec, I like to think I can hold my own yes.
Being 80 or max level if you like isn’t about being the pwnx0rd, but rather working out your weakness and your strengths for your selected profession, and how your spec comes into that to affect the outcome of each fights.I can generally tell straight away when a mistake I made is gonna get me downed/killed or whether a risk I took was worth it.
While obviously your goal as a lvl80 is to maximize your gear to increase your efficiency, if you can’t read the fights well and do not follow suit with the adequate rotation then you are going to struggle both in engame pve content or pvp.
Personally I think the game is great and the gameplay mechanic are pretty awesome, so making mistakes and learning from them is no issue for me. Elitists love bashing around “L2P” as a way to ascertain their superiority over gamers making certain mistakes, as if they have already worked it all out. Which is complete BS.
Have fun, find a playstyle you like, and keep practicing no matter what others say. Your enjoyment is what matters most and out of it you will increase your skills.
TL;DR embrace your chosen class, mistakes are good to learn, ignore elitists who are simply running the latest OP build like drones, gear is only boost and you’ll get there, game is fun and makes sense the more you play it. Classic endgame.
great post-
I agree with you totally and I run a condition hybrid build on my mesmer.
I love the challenge of learning how to play effectively and I get a huge kick out of being good at my class.
As an 80 I’ve had the time to explore my class much more and to find the build that suits me and to kit for it.
I certainly don’t feel under-powered and I am adaptable enough to take on different situations- this has greatly enhanced my enjoyment as well.
thanks, unfortunately I have no idea where I got the staff- I think it might have been a personal story reward- often transmuted
atm I am rocking my Whispers set – I am a little in love with it.
This is one of my favourites- the legs at least it is a karma item in the lvl40/50 or so maps I think. I wore this combo until I was almost 80

another is the devout set- sadly I can’t find the recipe for the shoulders and hood anywhere in the game

I agree with the Op- I have been 80 for ages and I have never wondered what to do.
I have enjoyed myself immensely doing things I like and setting my own goals.
I have never felt the need for “endgame content” and I always thought that was just code for saying I am more powerful than you, so I get the cool stuffs and get to do the cool content but you don’t.
GW2 is fun from lvl1 and it is just as much fun to me as an old 80.
I participated in a Balthazaar kill yesterday on Sanctum of Rall. I do it every couple of days along with the Zho’Qafa Catacombs event (trying for the rumored and highly rare Final Rest staff).
Another one of my obsessions
sadly I have had no luck with that since I can only get my husband to do it with me- that is a suicide mission for two players.
I guess you haven’t had any luck with getting Final Rest?
I’ve tried to “friends, country men, brothers! A day may come when the courage of men fails, but it is not this day, let us retake the Temple of Balthazar!” in zone chat.
The response is always something of the tune to “lol, it’s still bugged, noob.”
Classic! I must try that some time since Balthazar has become my personal crusade.
I’ve also found numerous ways to unstick the chain when it becomes bugged- mostly if you let the pact Npc’s get killed- just kite mobs to them- the event resets fine.
The problem is getting players to follow the plan though
I understand your arguments and your lack of time to play due to real life obligations that prevents you to achieving your content of desire which is Bifrost. But making legendary easily attainable would essentially (as mentioned by above poster) make the appeal of a legendary diminish. The reason people desire legendary is because it is one of the highest badge of honor this game has to offer. If everyone can achieve it so easily, then it just becomes nothing more than a white item. I find your statement of how a legendary would take you 7 years very intriguing. Seeing as the dungeon rewards are revamped quite a bit to amplify the gold received. A typical full run of AC normally takes me around 1-1.5 hours depending on my group and nets a nice 3g. That is pretty casual friendly time frame.
I have read many posts on this forums and it seems that a lot of the more “casual players” prefer to have a shot at the legendary by doing what they enjoy which is exploring and having fun in their own way. I am not saying there is anything wrong with different people having different play style, but one should embrace the consequence of ones’ choice. Just because you chose to causally play at your own pace and style does not necessary mean you should receive the same amount of reward for “hardcore players” who chose to utilize their game time to grind for their respected goal. I don’t see how legendary will affect your skills in a game such as guild wars 2 where the stats are capped.
The other repercussion of daily mats reward, would be impact on the already limited economy. OP argued that giving a few mats will not affect the economy as a whole since the amount will be so small. But consider the amount of players guild wars has, multiplied those mats by the player base and we will have a very very big issues. Op might argue that he/she will not be selling those mats he will get from daily, but can he say the same for the entire player base?
The best solution is for Anet to implemented new methods of getting ascended gears like dungeon reward or even temple events; instead of the one and only method that purely requires mystic forge recipe.
Just my 2cent.
TL;DR
Daily mats will just kill the already feeble economy. Daily mats reward * Player base = terrible idea.
I get what you are saying ( btw I said several years, not 7 :P )
I also think Legendary Weapons should remain legendary and not common.
My point was the term Dedicated player.
You can be casual due to time limitations and still be a dedicated player, at least I think so.
It is definitely true that as a casual player I would prefer to spend my time in the game doing things I enjoy.
I think that more avenues to achievement other than grinding would be wonderful and would certainly give people more options to reach different goals.
Not just for Legendaries but for all goals- the more options you have to get the materials, the less you need to grind, which should keep it fresh for everyone.
As for players who spend hours a day grinding Legendary requirements, naturally they should achieve their goals much faster than the person who just plays consistently but plays for fun.
It should however be possible for a dedicated player with less time to play- to eventually earn a Legendary. I don’t think it should be easy or fast just possible.
Take Bifrost for example- for that I need: 500 dungeon tokens + gift of Zaitan.
I hate dungeons and having a small kid makes them very hard to do for me.
I can guarantee you that by the end of all that I will never set foot in a dungeon ever again and it will have been a very unfun journey.
Now take the temple events as a contrast, which I love .
I would gladly run them many many times for the small chance at getting a token at the end of a successful chain because I enjoy it and it is something I can do within my schedule.
this btw is just an example of how to get to the same goals through different paths and doesn’t apply to a specific recipe
As for the T6 mats- maybe you are right.
The thing is that they are used by so many things in game that you have to pick and choose what to make very carefully.
I don’t care about ascended gear at all to be honest- but I would really really like Bifrost one day.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
@ Jack of Tears I agree with everything you have said so I’m not going to repeat it
@ OP- I do feel like an 80, what’s more I feel much more powerful now than when I became an 80) and that has to do with skill.
I feel like a hero actually.
Just play for a bit on an alt and switch back to your 80 and you will notice the difference.
@ Tiger Ashante: that said it is demeaning to play in low level areas on your 80, I can only say
0_0
In a low level zone you have no ooohhh this is an 80 running around because all you see is a little down arrow- this is wonderful because all you then see is just another player.
I love this and I love playing in all parts of the world- I really do think they should be stricter with the down leveling because as it is, it is too easy especially in very low lvl zones.
I’m a casual player, and quite frankly we don’t deserve legendaries. For all the good reasons already listed above.
More importantly, we don’t NEED legendaries to do any high-level content. That’s the difference between GW2 and most other MMOs. As a former hardcore vanilla WoW raider, I NEEDED to grind out 400 fire resist gear to do Molten Core, or I would get 1-shot and possibly wipe my entire 40 man raid team. No gear = No play. A legendary is just visual eye candy for the most dedicatedplayers of the game (and lucky, but that’s another kettle of fish). A casual player neither deserves nor needs one. Which is a GOOD thing.
There in lies the rub.
According to definition in this thread hardcore means x hours of play a day and casual means less than 3 hours.
By definition only younger players with a lot of time on their hands can ever be hardcore. I have no problem with that since I am a casual player that also has litle mine to play.
The bolded part is what i have a problem with.
Just because I am a casual player does not mean I am not a dedicated player. GW2 is the only game I play atm, I spend most of my free time playing it. I have an 80, in full exotics/ 61% map exploration and 3 alts between lvl20-30. I have 3 crafting profession at 400 and the rest between 100-250.
I have bought bankslots, black lion salvage kits, and fine trans stones and a halloween costume from the store with real money.
So I consider myself a dedicated GW2 player, same goes for my husband. We have been playing since the betas.
Now as it stands, ever earning a legendary might as well require me to hike to the moon because that is exactly as achievable.
I would dearly love the Bifrost- it will take me several years to get it- if ever.
So yes I support the OP’s idea, that will at least give me and people like me a chance.
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Just one?
I love Fireheart Rise, it is so well done.
Mount Maelstrom, Iron marches, Dredgehaunt Cliffs
Diamond Mask’s wish list for Wintersday
1. a black cat mini
2. a staff that uses the Of the Mists skin (transparent glowy purple), just the recipe would be cool- tied with a ribbon
3 a pink feather boa
