I think you don’t get how it works- of course you can craft you own stuff on your main- I did it as I leveled her.
I wear my own crafted exotics so yes you can absolutely craft your own- I collected the mats over time and it did take long but didn’t cost me all that much.
I craft on all my alts too and have 3 professions at 400 at the moment.
Crafting gives great xp and it is very useful indeed for keeping your characters geared- I can mostly make better stuff than anything you can get with karma while leveling- at 80 though it is all about stats and some combinations can’t be crafted.
Going to have to go with Logan Thackerayy here.
I’m partial to Logan too
It is not confusing- I have never been afraid of being banned and I have been playing since the start. I’ve had a tremendous amount of fun.
I am not afraid of being banned because I don’t exploit, try to work the system or get while the going is good- my husband and I do send each other gold- but that has never concerned me.
It is really simple, play the game, enjoy yourself and if you should by some miracle get wrongly banned contact support- end of problem
Dredge should all die- seriously I go nuts when I see them. They give good loot though
Nightmare Court is pretty hard- they gave me a bit of trouble when I made my Sylvari- I was surprised to see enemies like that in a starter zone
I don’t know how active Crystal Desert is in WvWvW but sometime servers who are very focused on PvP have a low pop out in the world even though the server is stated as High pop.
I’m on Gunnar’s Hold and there are lots of people everywhere, I’ve also seen many new players the last month or so.
Maybe you just need to look into how players on different servers spend their time playing, not just the server numbers.
The players are there but you might not know it always.
Teleporting via waypoints cost is way too high at lvl 80… You can easly spend a few golds traveling to do your personal story. Can we reduce it a bit ?
how do you spend a few golds? the max traveling cost is 4 silver
I have to give a shout for Mesmers- they are really fun- so much I have two
my main is a condition, hybrid/ staff traited /GS mesmer
She is untouchable
My second mesmer is traited for GS dps and crit and she is a monste
So don’t knock the other caster classes
edit: mesmer is not squishy at all
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Some people really enjoy WvWvW- I have never gotten around to checking it out yet since I love playing in the open world I’ve been 80 for ages but I still find so many thing to do and see- endgame is doing what you enjoy I guess
Have fun!
HI Flux! Welcome to the game
A very good EU server is Gunnar’s Hold we have a fantastic community and it is very open world focused so you will always find people to play with.
The economy is world wide not server based so that doesn’t matter.
We are not very focused on WvWvW.
As for characters almost all classes are viable so just pick one that takes your fancy- or make 5 take them into the heart of the mists where you can see how they will play at max level- try Ele they are fun maybe you’ll enjoy it
You can create anything you like- it is more important that you like and enjoy your character
I would want the level cap to stay at 80 but for expansions to add more level 80 maps.
More story, more open world content, new classes, races and new crafting professions.
As far as I know all they said about raising level cap in the future is that they might consider it- it is not definite.
I can see it creating many problems to be honest and I really don’t think it is necessary
How much gold are you talking about?
My husband gives me gold all the time and has never had a problem
If you are wrongfully banned they will correct it.
About the t shirt code I have no idea if you can sell it- how would you do that? Email?
You are more likely to get scammed I think
Each tier of crafting uses a better material so in the case of jeweler only your first tier will be copper (up to lvl75 jeweler) your next tier will be silver. you can craft much better items the higher your crafting gets
btw jewelry does not use iron ore.
This only applies power/precision/crit gear
I use carrion gear and carrion jewelry, with runes of the necro I think
I’ve made a tidy profit off beserker items- oh and magic find items
ruby orbs are going for 7s? brb
It’s very easy to resolve – up the rewards for completing dynamic event chains and watch as people start farming them again.
I do them because I really enjoy that aspect of the game, and my server is one of the most populous so I rarely have a problem getting them done.
Pro-tip, advertise them. If you come across one let the zone know, and link a nearby waypoint. Literally every time I do this a bunch of lone wolves suddenly appear and we get it done.
This. Very well said.
I am also on a very busy server and people advertise events all the time. All it takes is a waypoint link and they will come. When I play solo I have never had an issue because I do this all the time. I’ve even seen people asking for help with personal story quests in map chat.If you upped event rewards all you’d get is lvl 80’s farming the best events. All the others would still be dead. They’d also need to have harsh diminishing returns on repeated events for there to be any real difference.
DR on repeated events are really not a bad idea but I can see it being a problem even for non farmers because often we will finish an event and still be in the area when it triggers again and then go and do it to help some other players.
In Orr the temple events can go quite fast and then if they fail you try again- at least we do with Balthazar.
So I’m not sure how to implement DR on event farming.
Sure Orr is most profitable but I think that it is possible to make lower lvl maps lucrative for lvl80’s.
Add unique drops to map bosses ( I mean the big ones like Shadow Behemoth or Fire Elemental)
Add unique skins per regions: Kryta, Far Shiverpeaks, Ascalon, Meguma- purchasable skins with karma as well as recipes to craft those skins, regional food recipes as well as more regional harvestables.
Actually if drops on the other maps where on par with Orr- people would spread out like crazy
you people waste too much of your life with this IMO.
real life is not that long.
I don’t have 1000 hours played but your post is a bit judgmental- how can you decide what people should do with their free time?
I haven’t watched TV in more than 20 years- I don’t even own one.
I do have 9 book cases full of books and 15 boxes in the garage though.
If I want to spend my free time playing GW2 then who are you to judge?
How exactly should we not waste our lives?
I play this game with my husband and kid, it is a fun.
Before you say get out more, yes we do that too
Artificing- making potions and tuning crystals only
about 40% of the population is left since Aug 25. The ascend gear cost them aprox 30% at the time.
But the game continues to bleed people out at a fast rate.
Pve – Orr and all other zones are dead.
Dungeons dead uless it is fractals.
Pvp/Tpvp on life support at the moment
WvW a huge mess and outside of EB no one on those maps unless a T1.
The game is in trouble and Anet continue to make bad decisions.
Just because you keep repeating it doesn’t make it true.
My server is doing great OP, we have built up a very nice community since some people have been playing there since the betas.
There has also been a huge influx of new people that started even before the holidays so I see new players around all the time and it is nice to see them talking in map chat because everything is shiny and exciting and they are having a blast.
Leveling alts are great because of this, I’m leveling 4 atm.
Can’t say about guilds since I have a family guild- I do know that some of the more WvWvW guilds have switched servers but that had a positive effect since the server is now very PvE open world focused

Try switching weapons on your Ele. You were prolly using Staff, yes? It is Slow, meticulous weapon that is highly effective. But Slow and boring. Dagger/Dagger Ele is more fun than most melee are in this game. You get OMG amounts of swiftness, surprisingly good DPS and a fun weapon. The one that I do not Like is Sceptre/Focus. Too static for almost no return. I shall see(lvls 25-50 are my S/F lvls)…
Can’t recommend Mesmer either. They have only 1 good weapon(Greatsword) and that weapon is almost identical to ranger’s Longbow anyhow…
Ranger is awesome. Mobile as hell on Shortbow, bursty on Longbow, nimble with Swords. I Like Ranger. And with a good pet choice it becomes awesome!
Warrior is awesome! I recommend you try Rifle with “On my Mark!”Bola Throwsomething+Signet of Rage(focus Precision and damage)! 2nd weapon is Longbow. They can’t catch you and even if they do, they are dead by then!
Others, I have no Real experience with. As others said, try them all. I suggest trying them at least until lvl 20(when you get all the utility slots) and 10points into Chosen Trait line. Trust me, the difference between only Bola Throw and Bola Throw+"On my Mark!" is huge.
This post illustrates very well that all players are different and enjoy different things
I have a staff Ele and I love my Mesmer so much I made a second one ( staff/ Great Sword rocks, seriously )
My rifle, sword/sword warrior bores me to tears.
Try each profession and try all the different weapon sets too, since it can make a huge difference in how a class plays. Your best bet would probably be to go to the heart of the mists to try them out at max.
IN the end it just comes down to what clicks with you, if you enjoy the play-style of a class you will have fun playing it.

The most I’ve has is around 10g that I saved to buy Whispers armour.
I spend money like crazy in this game- so I started banking anything over 1g per char.
This seems to work since I’m up to 7g in the bank now in about 2 weeks , starting from 50s All my chars still have 1g a piece and 3 of them are still leveling crafting .
I also bought tier 1 cultural armour for my Sylvari.
I am addicted to dyes and skins though so I’ll never be rich
you don’t want to craft, you don’t want to do vistas, poi or complete the map and you think hearts should give you enough xp to level?
Well sorry but you can’t ignore so much content and expect to be on level.
Queensdale is not hard- I’ve leveled 4 of my 5 characters there and I never had a problem gaining levels, in fact I was often way over level before I moved on.
Queensdale also has a lot of DE’s going on all the time. You do realize you can trigger them yourself and one often leads to another if you stick around?
Hearts were not even meant to be in the game and is a late addition because players needed some guidance- many of the DE’s are nowhere near hearts so if you refuse to explore or talk to npc’s you will never find them.
Edit: personal story is not hard- I did it on level with my casters and some levels above with my thief and warrior.
Also your idea of ranged combat vs melee is off- just ask my gs/staff mesmer/ staff ele.
Warrior melee is by far easier but not as fun-I get bored with it because basically you spam 2 buttons, look if it is still alive rinse and repeat.

You can transmute any skin onto lvl80 armour with fine transmutation stones yes.
I’ve done it many times.
You can get fine transmutation stones for completing a map, I think story rewards and I got some from a daily once, sometimes from Black Lion chests.
I saw one today for the 2nd time- they are too fast to report or screenshot- Anet is aware of it however.
It is impossible to report them, what freaked me out is that it had an original character name
This was in the Norn starter zone at a copper node
@ Spyder- love your sig
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Your pics are awesome!
for medium armour I would love to see those with pants.
I would also like more sleek looking medium armour that is body hugging but not revealing.
For light armour I would love more elegant choices, a lot of the light armour looks like you jumped out of a cake
I would like to see some more flowey designs
edit: oh and please hair with head gear!
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
Huh…
So all that karma for nothing?
Basically if i like it, i can just copy something elses stats onto the look of the armor with an item that does that? I have like 10 of those i think.
I can preview them in Heart of Mists then? Cool, i’ll go there and see how they look.
They do seem kinda pricey, way too much karma, and karma is hard to come by. I’ve been doing daily quests as much as i can and i have about 20k karma now. But tier 3 weapons and armor… Man, where do i get so much karma? Sure, they’re lvl 80, but still…
Thanks for the info!
Just to add- Cultural Armour cost gold while the Weapons cost Karma- you can find the vendors in your racial main city. Cultural Armour is only usable by the race, while Weapons are usable by everyone I think.
You can get quite a lot of karma doing Dynamic Events too in addition to hearts and dailies
None of this is pay to win- and no, those buffs do not matter no matter how many times you say it does.
Then why sell them?
Didn’t take long to find the flaw in your logic lol. Hey if you are having fun go knock yourself out but a lot of people find paying to progress in a game distasteful.
Have you tried Diablo 3? You’d love it, it’s another shallow game where you can pay to progress.
They sell them precisely because a lot of people think like you do and they have to have something in the shop that sells- granted more fluff would be awesome but it is a cash shop after all.
Nothing stops you from converting gold to gems either, that is what I did to buy the makeover kit.
Paying to progress is distasteful, I think so too- I just can’t see how you can do it in this game.
As for Diablo 3- I gave it a skip since I loved Diablo, Diablo 2.
Don’t make assumptions about which games I would like.
No boost in the cash shop is unavailable to you just by playing the game- if people want to believe they have an advantage by buying useless stuff they could get for free, let them. It doesn’t make the game P2W though
Yeah, it really does. Most P2W games let you earn stuff in game, it just takes a lot longer and involves boring grinding (sound familiar?).
The shop is the reason the game is so grind focused, they want you to use the shop. That’s the problem with P2W games, they inevitably end up sacrificing fun in an attempt to milk money out of the playerbase.
I have gotten so many shop buffs from playing the game that they clog up my bank.
I don’t grind, I don’t farm. I am not bored either.
I have spent gems on a bank slot and a make-over that I wanted.
Anet has never forced me in any way to buy stuff from the shop.
None of this is pay to win- and no, those buffs do not matter no matter how many times you say it does.
All buying gold to rush a character to 80 does is produce a player unfamiliar with the profession. In WvWvW, a fully geared 80 with no experience will get stomped quicker than an upleveled toon with experience & skill. Let them buy their 80s. Just more fodder for us. If they turn out to be good, well, now you have another person to party up with. Solves that “can’t find a dungeon group” issue quicker.
It cheapens the entire game, besides a new player can do just fine in GW2 considering that in this game you just fire abilities when ready for the most part. The skill ceiling is insanely low.
Please explain what aspect of the game is currently P2W. That term alone is cringe-inducing since everyone has a different view of what P2W even means. I haven’t seen anything in this game that gives an unfair advantage to one person over the other besides player skill.
If you can spend money to make your character more powerful the game is P2W. I’m pretty sure a geared level 80 has an advantage over someone leveling up. If you wish to pretend otherwise that’s your choice, but it changes nothing.
I’m pretty sure a geared lvl 80 that played his way there will be more powerful than an 80 that bought his way there.
Comparing a character leveling up to a max level character makes no sense.
If you want to pretend it does it is your choice but that does not make it so.
P2W does mean buying an advantage which you can’t do in this game.
No boost in the cash shop is unavailable to you just by playing the game- if people want to believe they have an advantage by buying useless stuff they could get for free, let them. It doesn’t make the game P2W though
We need an easier way of using consumable items such as ash legion spy kits than opening your inventory and using it.
This- a tab for consumables would be awesome, you get such cool things in game and never use them because they sit in your inventory.
Food, potions and tuning crystals should also be able to go on this tab.
long way to go here only 629- congrats Op
As others have said buy it if you like the skins- I have tier 1 Sylvari cultural armour that I bought at lvl 20 already because I can’t stand Sylvaris in human armour.
Currently I am saving to get her tier 2 at lvl 60- that will be her end game gear.
Luckily for me I don’t like tier 3 armour
I am also saving karma for the tier 3 weapons.
It is all about the look you want.
I wouldn’t call it an advantage more like the opposite, as someone else said good luck fighting with that 80.
Meh if you want to be an idiot and buy your way to 80 to bypass the actual game, knock yourself out, doesn’t concern me in the least.
Shadow behemoth has been bugged for a couple months now, coulda sworn everybody new about this allready……
i did Shadow Behemoth about two weeks ago.
@ Op
I have been 80 for months now and I am really not bored- I don’t run dungeons because I have a small kid and I find dungeons mindbogglingly boring.
I don’t PvP either.
I find a ton of things to do- one poster as talking about replay-ability and comparing it to a good book, this is very much my experience- I find new things everywhere I go, this game world is so amazing if you play it like a virtual world instead of a grind/farm/dungeon run.
I have alts too and I enjoy the different perspective other classes can give, if you find your server empty by all means find one that is active in PvE it makes a huge difference.
Just last night I helped a new player with his personal story that he couldn’t even find on the map. He was happy and I was happy I could help.
No one can tell you how you should experience your game- have fun
Cultural Armors/Weapons can be really cool if it goes with your look, personally I can’t imagine my Sylvari without it.
So go for it if it has a look you like.
I’m saving karma now for the tier 3 cultural weapons for her- she is only lvl 38 so she still has a way to go.
On a tangent about weapon skins and the personal story – I’d love to know how many people keep that weapon you get from the level 10 story mission. It’s practically a free cultural weapon skin.
Haha I did!
I love the staff skin for my ele and will keep it even when she is 80- she is 50 now and I’ve transmuted it so many times I also kept the Slayer Coat skin that you can only get through story missions.
I haven’t actually completed the story on my main yet but that is not because of rewards but because I have a time problem with dungeons.
I love the personal story and play it on all my alts as well.
I really enjoy how the different Orders see the world and even different races.
Actually I think the story rewards are very useful, except for the tools and food you get sometimes
what do you do if you don’t like farming dungeons?
like me hey?
While I loved the OP I don’t really do dungeons since I have a 5 year old.
I do dailies and save up karma, I also have 400 tailoring, chef, jeweler.
So I make the gear I can for my alts with mats that my alts gather, I figure they can at least supply the mats for gear I make for them. My husband has weaponsmith and leather worker, so we help each other out
But mostly what I do is bank all money except traveling costs- leveling alts, I find enough blue and green drops to tide me since you swap gear about every 5 lvls, so I don’t waste money trying to gear them, instead I plan ahead and save for when they hit 80, either gold or karma depending on what I want.
I find personal story also useful for gearing while leveling unless you get a totally useless reward like gathering tools or food.
At 80 it is a different story of course. I love order armor and for my Sylvari I want the tier 2 (she already has tier 1).
I might just do the temple runs for the stats I want , since I find them really fun and transmute the skins to what I want. Crafting some pieces is an option but has become really expensive if you don’t have the mats.
My husband spent 7g last week crafting 3 pieces.

I hate LA and I never go there unless I really really have to. I love Divinity’s Reach and now that I have a Sylvari I use The Grove a lot too. DR always seems to have crowds of people but The Grove is much more empty.
The mini games would go along way towards making the cities more active
I can’t really speak for your server, but Tarnished Coast is jam-packed with people. Try jumping to one of the busier servers.
Typical denial response. The game is horridly empty in every non-starter and non-end game zone… on EVERT server. And the game design depends on people. It’s failing on all fronts.
Gunnar’s Hold would like to have a word with you.
@ OP I think it is really just your server- there has been a huge influx of people in the game recently and I expect even more new players after xmas.
Some servers have always been busier than others and how the population on a server spends time in game also has a lot to do with it.
For example servers that are very active in WvWvW and PvP might have a very low pop playing in the world.
On my server people prefer playing open world PvE so the maps are always busy but WvWvW is not so active.
Hope that helps.
I am personally fine with mobs dropping blues and greens and whites.
What I would like to see is for champions and group bosses/dragons to have a higher rate of rares/exotics.
The gold drop rate is fine as it is.
I would like to see more dyes.
This is just how I feel about it
I sold my abyss dye for about 4 ish gold. I don’t like how it looks on anything.
My preferred dyes on my main is a combination of midnight fire, starry night and mithril/white gold.
I also love black cherry/ spitfire and use that on my ele.
random dragons? that would be awesome!
It is a very good guide OP and I don’t even run dungeons.
On my main I crafted my exotics to transmute over my Order Armor and that cost me a bundle.
Now on my alts I am feeling the bite since it took me ages to collect all the mats just for one exotic set.
Three of them will be hitting 80 roughly at the same time.
I have been saving gold and banking it to gear them but your way will be much cheaper
Ps I am a skin kitten
good luck and enjoy
In PvE feedback bubble on a ranged attacker is pretty fun- I love watching them kill themselves.
Actually most everything about a mesmer is fun
Mesmer is the most fun- that is just my opinion
I have a Logitech G600 and I love it- I have my skills on the thumb buttons and it has helped me a lot- I mouse steer with the heel of my hand while holding very lightly.
I have small hands and the mouse is short enough for me to use easily, it was quite heavy in the beginning but I got used to it after about 2 days
My husband can’t play with my mouse at all since he grips the mouse too tightly and pushes all the thumb buttons.
He has a Roccat Kone and he swears it is the best mouse

O_O
that just brought tears to my eyes!
What are people buying that gives them an edge over you in any way? You say gold. In that regard, what are people buying with that gold, in game, thats giving them an edge over you in any way?
Dont play stupid, you know what and why.
Ok, pretend that we all really are stupid. Explain to us this pay to win that you are going on about.
Ive already explained it. What dont you understand? Besides its not something you have to explain, its a feeling, and the feeling is of being ripped off. If you dont feel it then youre just a sucker. And thats who this games apparently for.
I am a sucker now? well ok, I still don’t see how the shop is pay to win. so you can buy gold with gems- it is hardly a secret and has been around since the betas. Gold does not make you win though- it can make you look really pretty and that is about it.
The game model works great- if you don’t like it feel free to play a F2P game of your choice.
Personally I feel the box price acts like a filter to keep the F2P trash crowds out.
