About the classes since you seem to like melee.
Warriors are very powerful but I can’t really play one at all-so can’t help you there.

If you like melee however there are other classes that can fight at melee range very very effectively. Dagger/ Dagger ele comes to mind.

Most classes have a gap closer and getaway skill anyway and you would use those rather than just stay in range combat for instance.

Each class have many different options and play-styles, maybe warrior is just not the class for you? Warrior in GW2 doesn’t really play like your classic warrior.

Sorry if this makes no sense but I play a Mesmer main, ele, mesmer, engi, thief- also it is late…

Hi, I would suggest this thread if you are looking for people to do stuff with.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together
It is a long thread so just introduce yourself.

You don’t say what class you play or even much about how you play.
Maybe i can give you some tips:
Your personal story rewards you with gear and useful items at the appropriate levels, often with unique skins that can look awesome.
When you complete hearts the quest giver aslo turns into a shop that gives cool gear and skins for karma.
When you complete and event, stick around to see if it continues, often it does, at the end the event guy turns into a shop that sells useful buffs/ cool novelty consumables.
Fighting in this game can be hectic especially if you come from playing other MMO’s. you have skills to escape, mitigate damage, deny attack and generally keep you safe.
That is in addition to dodge. It is very active but rewarding when you learn how it works.
You are never really supposed to tank anything- so it doesn’t really matter what your lvl is.
Crafting gives you 10 levels / maxed out craft so you will gain 10 game levels if you craft a profession to 400.
Lvl 35 is the first level you can do a dungeon I think- Ascalon Catacombs- check out the link I gave you.
I hope this helps

Do you use food buffs?
Do you use wrench buffs?
Do you stack stacking sigils , then wield a weapon with different ones in actual wvw combat?
Do you buy stat karma boosts from wayfarer foothills?
If the answer to at least one of these question is NO,
you can’t grumble about ascended gear because you denied yourself amount of power (not as in stat but as in overall character strength) 10-20 times bigger (or the same as difference between exotic and ascended ring, in karma buffs case) than a difference between exotic and ascended currently gear pieces.
If the answer to all is NO(which is presumable),
Then you are ridiculous for complaining about ascended gear. After all, you willingfully
gave up on enormous buffs(250+ to chosen stat which requires you to kill a dozen of monsters before doing real wvw objectives; mere silvers for amazing wrench and food buffs, just to say 100 precision, 100 power, 10% critical damage from wrench and food for example. Or godlike lifesteal from omnomberry ghosts… Oh, and karma buffs that come for… 21/28 karma each… And alltogether(theres 4 karma buffs) give the same bonus as ascended ring over exotic would give… yeah..)
I’m talking about 20-30% of character strength here, and yet you who do not use those complain about 1% current power increase from ascended and 6-7% in the future..
Also, do you carry all weapons available to your class in your inventory?
After all, as a warrior I keep everything I can(almost whole 20 slot bag of exotic weaponry, 4 axes(2 for stacking, 2 for combat), shield, 2 swords, longbow, rifle, GS, hammer, 2 maces, warhorn).
Because there is no reason to grumble how you do not have a longbow when you need to defend your tower from superior force of enemies, no reason to be a snail when you can equip sword+warhorn/GS and be the fastest character there is(tried with friends, I got ahead of air run specced ele with daggers of course and on par with shadowstep thief who shadowstepped like every 3-4 seconds -_-), and of course et cetera.

The point is that those buffs you speak of are freely available in the game for all, no obligatory content required, if you don’t see the difference then I really can’t help you.

@ Raine: I agree with everything you said- and you said it much better than I could ever have

Whoa.

Crafting provides generous experience. Personal story = XP + items.

The crowd is great around Divinity’s Reach and Hoebrak (events) except of course for the persistent lonewolf who even declares themselves on map chat. Get a group, form a party.

I don’t like people, if I can do something on my own, I will.

I can relate to that since I often just want to play by myself- I love it that in this game I am not forced to group, unless I want to.

If you also dislike Queensdale I suggest trying the Norn lands, the quests are fun and the zone is sort of split in two- one part 1— 6 and the other until lvl 15.
Char zones I also find awesome as they are very unique.

If you do not use consumables like food, oils, tuning crystals etc- I would recommend it since they give nice buffs and added xp.
Also you get a lot of xp just from gathering stuff.
If you 100% all the vistas, hearts, poi etc on a map you get some good gear that you can either use or sell, some mats and a random item like transmute stones.

Incidently I remember having to go into Kessex Hills I think for my story at a lvl 14 or so and for the next bits too.. if I remember correctly it was fairly easy just to run there get the waypoint and do the story. I generally explore the zones I find interesting and them just run to the story if it is not in a zone I am exploring at the time.

Morrigan.2809

I just wish people who no longer play will stop posting on the forums since their posts are often unreasonable, out of place and disrespecting of anyone who does like the game , including new players.
Constructive criticism is a good thing, it gives suggestions on how to improve things, throwing your toys out of the cot is not.

Why? they payed the exact same as you for the game. The have the right to say whatever they want. Frankly if you think this forum is bad check out the other fan forums as they have made a mess there worse than here.
They have every right to be upset at whatever forced them to leave the game especially if it was over “design decisions”. The basic fact that over 75% of the population is gone doesnt give you a clue and people are upset then stay off of the forums. People Gripe in hope of change for the better no matter how distant a possibility it is.
Think of this as SWG and TOR exact same phenomena.

And yes pre Nov 15 it was really a good forum with little negativity to it with the exception to the nerf thief threads. I rushed to 80 what do I do type stuff or saying how great and fun the game is. Or asking about future content at 80.

Post Nov 15 is what you see now. That should tell you everything right there.
I do agree that the game must adapt to the new climate but you dont drop a bomb
that changes the entire game without saying a kitten word about it. You have a dialogue with your gamers and talk to them and explain why. NOT
DO fracs better gear be better then everyone else and do content others cant.Make more money too- have edge in WvW ect ect….

I don’t know why you quoted me because nothing you said responded to my post at all but since you did.

Why bring the game price into it? It has nothing to do with the fact that constructive criticism is useful and raging is not.
Just because I buy a product and no longer use it doesn’t make everyone who does use that product idiots or uninformed because they don’t share my opinion.

My comment was intended to mean that I think they game is best served by people actively playing the game and giving suggestions for improvement. Not by people raging why they quit the game.

You have no proof what ever to say 75% of people quit.

Pre Nov 15 the forum was pretty much what is is now. There has been one favorite complaint per week since the game launched.

I am in no way a fan of Ascended gear and I understand the anger from the community very well.

My point is that we need constructive criticism as well as praise for aspects of the game that we do like and think is working right. This way there is accurate feedback that is useful and can actually be used to improve the game for all

My thief is also a bit of a dud sitting at lvl 24.
Personally I find lvl 20- 40 the most draggy and I try to speed through those- I enjoy most of the starter zones but Queensdale is my least favorite and I have mostly humans, go figure.
I usually do go to other races areas and I mix it up quite a bit to keep it interesting, my characters bounce all over the place

On some classes you can level quickly on higher level content but not so much on others.
If you really feel in need to gain a couple of levels quick just craft a bit, very quick and easy and relatively painless.

Anti-ascended gear: What do you want?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

My main problem with Ascended gear is the fear I have that it will exclude me from new content.
Now if Ascended gear were spread through out the game and it is not only available in dungeons it would be less of a problem. ( I believe they said this will be the case).
Still I feel that there should be some way to upgrade named exotics to Ascended maybe through MF recipies.
It is all about choice really, if you want to play dungeons over and over to get better gear good for you- players should have the choice to play DE’s, story quests and achievements to get the same.

That said, I really think what we need is not more powerful gear but rather more variety in gear: Different stat combinations, crafted skins, zone unique recipes and skins and even very rare champ items.

Constructive criticism is a good thing, it gives suggestions on how to improve things, throwing your toys out of the cot is not.

Unfortunately, most fanbois/fangirls are unable to tell the difference

And most haters pretend there is no difference. All MMOs have a large amount of people who spend more time hoping a game will fail and trying to use slander as much as possible, instead of actually providing constructive feedback. That’s of course not good for the game, nor is it meant to be good for a game. I only wonder how empty could a person’s life be to waste time with sych behavior, but it’s a reality and it’s a common reality here.

Just as much that it is a reality that some people are so desperate for a pat on the back that they spend most of their day brown nosing a company that might even notice them. “Oh the game is fine as it is!” and any criticism is “the vocal minority complaining”. There are no brownie points to receive, and yet for some reason they desperately try to get as many as possible.

To me, those people are just as harmful as the ones who spend all their time complaining. They are giving positive reinforcement to destructive decisions that harm the game, simply because they want to be the “teachers pet”, as it were, instead of standing up and saying “You are risking losing this game’s population by going down this road. You should reconsider this!”. Maybe they weren’t loved enough as a kid or maybe they are hoping for some special in game treat, but either way it does no one any good. :-\

I think you are assuming too much here- just as people are allowed to give criticism as long as it is constructive, others are also allowed to like the game and say so.
There is no reason to assume there is something wrong with you if you enjoy the game, people have different tastes after all.

If is also necessary for people who do like things to say so, otherwise you have a one -sided view and decisions get made about the game that could have been avoided if both sides where able to state their case with out harassment.

@ Op while I didn’t have a problem with the separatists. on this map, I do have a problem with the mission that they give you because they feel threatened by trolls living nearby. You basically go in and kill ogres who are peacefully farming and caring for their pets.
They are doing nothing until you come rushing into their homes and then they rightfully defend it.
You kill everything.
In other areas of the game you assist ogres in creating a new kraal and they are very human like creatures.

This mission made me feel like a mass murderer- I detest the Fields of Ruin map because of it and nothing will get me to go back there ever.

So when i salvage an item should i bank the materials for future crafting or is it worth selling them?
Also do you suggest me using the black lion trading company or is it better to stick to merchants.

My suggestion would be to bank it and then either sell it in batches from your bank to the Black Loin Trading Post.
If you want you can keep them to craft your self. By banking them you free up inventory space. Never vendor crafting mats- always sell to the TP

Remember to gather everything you see, you can get gathering tools form a merchant, even if you don’t craft you can sell the mats on the trading post.
Crafting is a nice source of xp and I found it useful to keep my characters geared but be aware that is it a gold sink.
My advice to you would just be to relax and get lost in the world and let things take you were they will.
Welcome to the game

edit:
every heart you complete also turns into a shop that sells useful stuff for karma.
When you complete an event stick around and follow the guy for a bit because often there will be a second event- at the end the event guy also turns into a shop for a short time.
Get salvage kits at a merchant as soon as possible- salvage all whites and vendor blues and greens you can’t use.
there is a deposit collectibles button in your inventory that will send your crafting mats straight to your bank. You can also access your bank from any crafting station.
Hope this helps to get you started

If only the WP were free, I would never go to the Lion’s Arch, I go there only because it’s free I you switch to PvP or WvW…

I do it gladly because it is fun to help and I like to think that if I needed help all I had to do is ask.

own House

As long as the house included trophy stands, and trophies were added to various achievements, I would love this. For example; kill Zhaitan in the story and get a small statue of him to place in your home. Get X kills in PvP and get an ornate sword to hang on the wall.

I love that kind of stuff.

Yes! i agree. There would never be an “End Game” if housing were introduced along with all the new items and game play, which could be associated with it on a regular basis.

With major achievements the house could even be expanded. Getting “Dungeon Master” could unlock a dungeon/basement floor. Getting “The Emperor” could unlock a war room that has armor preview closets. Getting “Master Crafter” could unlock a personal crafting station room. They could go anywhere with it.

All this would be awesome and it could add such a nice dimension in playing out in the world- I would really welcome this.

Have you tried mesmer?
1. It is a fairly tricky class to play well and you have a number of options because builds play very differently.
2. you use all your skills across both weapon sets constantly, if you don’t like switching weapons don’t roll a mesmer.
Some of the skills are situational, sure but I find that you can set up great synergies-
it largely depends on your choice of weapons
3. I play a gs/staff mesmer and I know from the forums that many people play sword/pistol -I think it depends on your play style. Certainly mesmers can handle most types of content- they are even excellent at some

Whatever strikes my fancy.

That is to so… I don’t have a set plan, don’t feel the need for one… and don’t want to schedule things to be done during my play time. I log in and let DE’s take me wherever they would like to take me… crawl into caves when I pass them… jump into a dungeon when someone in my guild invites me… kill dragons when I know one is up… start random costume brawls… work on map completion when I happen to pass through one I haven’t finished… jump into wvw when the fancy strikes me… jump into keg brawl (would love to see some more mini games added)… I adore the jumping puzzles…

In fact… I prescribe to the Dirk Gently method of holistic navigation… I sometimes look for an avatar that looks like it knows where it is going and then I follow it.

Everything on a whim… and I like it that way. It’s hard to get bored when I never manage to do that same stuff 2 sessions in a row.

This is exactly how I’ve played since BW2 – it is tremendous fun and I am never even remotely bored. I have found some really interesting things though

Be careful when they have a normal name…a lot of the time it’s a simple case of the game not rendering players around you (due to culling) or someone using a WP. Find it hard to believe that botters would be able to get away with tele-hacking. That sort of thing should send up all kinds of red flags server side.

I get what you are saying- this was no where near a waypoint in the middle of nowhere, I doubt if it was culling as well since there was nothing there and this player sort of flickered.

But ele’s don’t really play like mages, they are more of a jack of all trades kind of profession. They do well at tanking, kiting, have decent heal abilities. Best thing to do is try the ranged classes if you’re wanting to go that route and see which one you enjoy most. All classes do decent dps so it’s more of a question of finding something that suits you. Try a mesmer, totally different than anything from wow. Hi- I have a main Mesmer at 80 and an Ele at 58
both classes are really fun and I only PvE.
The thing is they can be played many different ways and they are very flexible so I can’t see you having a problem in dungeons.

In open world both classes can be played solo/ teams depending on your weapons and skills.
In my case my Mesmer is all about control so I hardly ever get hit, I happen to be quite tanky so I don’t mind if I do.

My Elementalist is very quick, high damage, high crit and really shouldn’t stand in fire, but when I switch weapons she is very tactical Aoe. it all depends on how you want to play and your weapons, skills, traits

Just carry a bunch of weapons options and know your class and you will be fine.
Mesmer and Ele are both great support and control too, so you will never have a problem in a dungeon.

If you like Charr, why not go with an Ash Legion thief?
Thieves are very fun.
Or you can pretty much go with any race or class you like.
Good luck on starting over

Should stick to NPCs.

Riel Darkwater

You just like the outfit I’m sure of that, besides she looks old compared to MY “agent”.

Agreed, TS.

The open-world content that’s already in place is great – so great I’m really enjoying just alting without doing instances, but especially the DE’s that are already in place feel too small in scope and too repetitive, like placeholders. Vastly increasing the number, scope and depth of the DE’s in the world is going to lift this game from excellent to peerless, IMO.

I’d like to see the individual DE’s turned into zone-wide campaigns, and the way those events play out scripted out over a period of a week to a month rather than a couple hours. If they program it right they can alter the flow of these campaigns to make them feel unique with the flip of a few variables.

It would create a world in which the dynamic events never felt the same twice.

That would seriously rock

This was an awesome post by Colin and exactly what is needed, the game world is so beautiful -devoting time to it rather than pumping out new content is exactly the right thing to do.
Also him saying quality of life improvements makes me wonder about things like preview tab in TP, maybe some of the mini games in cities etc.
What do you guys think would be small simple things that improve your experience because they add up?

Aurora Glade?
I have some friends there and they are very into wvwvw/PvP and apparently also quite busy in PvE

Hey guys,

Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.

To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.

More details and specifics to come in the next couple of weeks, but I hope that helps provide some more insight into what to expect at a very high level.

Thank you! this is awesome news and exactly what is needed- nice post
