Culling sucks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

Upgrade your computer and internet line?

It’s nothing to do with that.

I believe they are working on doing away with culling in PvE, not sure if we will see it included in the next patch.

Culling is really bad in PvE, get a few metres away from somebody and they disappear, or run into the bank for the merchant to appear after you get there.

They could clean up redundant scripts and graphics. Or preload certain things, but bottom line, if your computer cant receive and process data fast enough you will always see a delay.

I have a pretty decent set-up and I have also been playing since the betas- there was no culling at launch that I know because I have screens of people literally blanketing the map.
PVE culling is fairly recent to the extent it is now- I think from round about Jan it got really bad.
They did say the are working on it though so hopefully we will see a fix

Op: I am not sure how much of the game you thought you would see in 5 lvls- you don’t say in which starter zone you are playing, unless I missed it.
My suggestion would be to go to your main city and use the asura gate to Lion’s Arch and from there to Divinity’s reach.
Queensdale is a very busy starter zone with tons of players running around that you can hang out with and there is always help available for asking. It is also mapped in a pretty straightforward manner unlike I find Caledon.

I think you mentioned Elementalist but I am not sure- ele is a difficult class to get the hang of and they are very squishy- since ele’s don’t have weapon swap( you get that at lvl7) I would suggest you start getting really familiar with attunement swapping since this makes or breaks an ele.
Also try a scepter/focus for leveling and a staff if you want to stay at a distance.

You really need to play a few more levels to even see how the different classes work- i suggest you use your 5 slots and make a bunch of different professions to try out.

Wrong subforum but to answer your question.

No there is none. You have to use transmutation stones.

Yeah, it is unrecoverable

No

Your last answer is not quite true.

While it will be soulbound to the character you use it on, you can use the transmute to white workaround to make it account bound.

This shouldn’t work anymore.

Why? What happened?
I used it the other day because I wanted karma armour for my alt but was to lazy to run all the way to Iron Marches from Plains of Ashford

There is always Final Rest- it is not Legendary but it is as necro as it gets.
Also Deathwish and the Pact staff is pretty necro-y.

Considering the G600 is basically Logitech stealing Razer’s design, I’d much rather use the original than the clone. By using a G600 you actually bowed before Razer, not Logitech.

Ahh- I don’t know where you live but here Razer has a very bad rep because of build quality and lack of support- if it breaks you can pretty much toss it because you won’t see it again if you send it in.
Logitech on the other hand has no such issues where I live.

Some of my friends have both and tell me that the G600 side buttons are more natural to use but don’t quote me on that.

I know Naga is a popular mouse- I guess it is a matter of preference.
My husband has a Roccat Kone and he hates my mouse..

In regards to SAB:

I don’t understand why people feel all content has to cater to them. If you don’t like the super adventure box, relax because some people do. It is hardly something forced on you – doing it or not has no real impact on other gameplay.

Arenanet has said that a team of eight was working on it, and a team of three was all that was there most of the time. For those who can’t do math, they have a staff of 300, so three means that for a large portion of time, /literally/ only 1% of the staff was involved.

That was between 3 and 8 devs that could have been working on wvw issues that weren’t out of a total dev team of how many? If 300 is the total staff of ANet, then let’s assume devs make up 20% of that total (not unreasonable, in fact probably way too high), that’s 60 people. Then assume 30 of them work on other games, that leaves 30 working on GW2.

So 10-25% of the GW2 dev team worked on this latest jump puzzle, not the 1% that you try to make it sound like.

With so many ‘live’ issues this time and resources could have been better spent elsewhere on the game.

We keep getting Jump Puzzle 2 additions every time but it took 8 months or so to fix culling (probably because out of the finite resources it was low down the list, just after ‘make 20 more jump puzzles’).

SAB is the ‘new’ content for April, it’s not an April Fool’s joke unless you assume that the joke is squarely aimed at the players as the mental age required to play the new SAB is four- as my neighbour’s 4 year old is proving to him every day. April Fool’s jokes are meant to only be on the morning of April 1st, not last a month.

I guess you don’t like SAB then?
Just a few things: sure Anet does not have 300 devs working for them- we don’t know the number.
To say that we get jump puzzles instead of fixes is just absurd though.

Have you considered that it took months to fix culling because it was a complex issue and has nothing to do with people designing jumping puzzles?
I don’t like jumping puzzles because I suck at them- but many many players love them.
it is a bit of extra content- loved by many that gives you something else to do in the game.
As for the April fools joke- you need to lighten up a bit. there was a post by Colin somewhere that there will be an update for April- no idea where or I would link it.

My guess is that the SAB was made by a bunch of people, mostly in their free time because they love it. Kind of like the Sylvari redesign was done

edit I actually laughed at your mental age of 4 statement, seriously?

I have no idea – don’t rule out that you might be able to buy them with gems converted from in game gold.
This has not been confirmed at all so don’t take the speculation too seriously- it just strikes me as something they might do, like you can upgrade to the deluxe edition with gems now.

Hello there community you’re feedback has been very helpfull and usefull…and i wish honestly a huge thank you to you all.

About the expansions i have a question, since when i bought GW2 and they say in the game box and even in several web sites we only have to buy the game once all the rest is free right? So when expansions will be launched how they will be available to players? By free download in the web site or we will actually have to spend money to have expansions?

I think that by free they meant no subscription after you buy the box and also the free monthly updates that we get.
They did say that they will be focusing more on adding to the core game for free rather than make you pay.
However they will probably bring out paid expansions on a long term basis- Not frequently but think of it as a new installment on an existing game kind of like you would have in a single player game.

I am an adult and do not like this. I tried it just now, and it was as I figured. It was not even fun in the slightest.

But I see that some of the weapon skin rewards are pretty nice looking and would look good on an Asura. They need to make them available outside that mini game for the mature people who refuse to play something so childish.

But then again I always have been baffled as to why Minecraft is so popular. I have the exact same feelings about that game. I also never have liked the Mario brothers games, ever.

Next is Arenanet going to add checkbook software in the game, so we can do our finances? Thats how ridiculous it is.

Since you don’t want to be playing something so “childish”- buy the skins off the TP- they are cheap.
I’m 41- I like minecraft, it is an extremely creative game- my husband doesn’t but he plays a lot of BF3 which I hate.

I like the fact that I can set my own goals and that I can play as much or as little as I have time for and still have fun and achieve what I want.

I seriously love the combat, it is so fluid and I like the fact that we do not have a trinity- imo it makes for more interesting situations because you can adapt and switch roles very fast.

I feel we need a bit more variety in skins at this point but I enjoy getting the perfect look for each of my characters.

If your friend plays very aggressively he might not be very suited to Mesmer, Mesmers are sneaky- he sounds like he would enjoy a d/d Elementalist.
As for a Mesmer leveling up- keep in mind that Mesmers only really come into their own after level 40 or so.
He could try using a GS/staff weapon set since those are great for leveling in pve.

My main is a Mesmer and I loved her so much I made a second one.
Originally my husband leveled his ranger with my Mesmer and we made an awesome team- very good synergy between the two classes.

I have an Engi at 80 as well and that might work well with a Mesmer too.
The two things a Mesmer lacks somewhat is speed and AOE.
Engi is not as tanky as a Mesmer but they give great AOE support.
